open up to the book of 2 chonicles chapter 7 and verse verse number one 2 Chronicles 7 verse number one and you can remain seated it states now when Solomon had made an end of praying the fire came down from heaven and consumed the the burnt offering and the sacrifices and the glory of the Lord filled the house I want to preach to you for a few moments tonight from this verse and entitled it Solomon's Prayer Solomon's Prayer if you would just right where you're at just bow your heads and let's pray over this sermon Heavenly Father Lord as we give you praise and adoration tonight Lord as your word Goes Forth I ask you to overlook look the inadequacies of the speaker and let your infallible word let it just sink deep into our hearts that we put it into practice that we realize that it is alive we realize that it can restore and we it has the ability to refresh father we know that we have a covenant promise with you that you will never leave us and you will never forsake us and you will lead us and guide us in the way and not my will but your will Lord we thank you and we praise you tonight in the name of Jesus we pray amen and amen in the book finishing well in life and Ministry authors Bill Mills and Craig parro Define a term that we hear often called burnout this way and I say the word burnout but this could mean a myriad of different identifiers whether it be let lethargy or weariness but we'll use the word uh burnout to describe all of these different uh things that we experience in our daily lives and in seasons in our lives he says they say a few signs and symptoms of burnout particularly in Ministry and as I speak tonight every individual under the sound of my voice is a minister and I reiterate the statement the greatest sermons ever preached aren't uh from behind a a Podium but it's the daily lives of his Saints of his people like you that use their talents and use their vocation and live out uh God's love in this everyday world but a few signs and symptoms of burnout in Ministry some indicators are stress insufficient sleep and rest spiritual dryness loss of motivation for a particular Ministry or just in The Daily Grind and the goals that you have set for yourself and your vocation and your family or feelings of isolation susceptibility to Temptation and just an overall disengagement and maybe a lack of Love or a lack of Desire lack of motivation for that calling that God gave me and and those that I serve and burnout can be experienced in a variety of ways because our bodies our souls and our minds and Spirits are integrated parts of a greater whole so a play on words tonight I I I preach about Holiness wh o l iess wholeness in our daily walk the following types of burnout often come together and they can have a compounding effect on each other because one can trigger the other and they can be a combination of all of these factors the first one being physical burnout it can take place because of overloaded work schedules and stressful lives which leads us to improper sleep habits and this can compound other facets of our lives and when speaking about burnout from Ministry John Piper said nothing brought me closer to quitting than sleeplessness if left unchecked physical burnout can caused a weakened immune system aches and pains it can affect our appetite it can uh make us feel tired all of the time we can have relational burnout and this is an emotional type of burnout and it can cause strain to our relationships uh e in the workplace and in our family and those we come in contact with and it can be the daytoday interactions we have with maybe a coworker where our you know personalities Clash or we had to deal with a a very intense situation and the stress and all of these things can compound and just maybe incrementally chip away and cause this type of relational burnout and there's emotional burnout and it can numb our ability it can numb our emotions and this can bring on a sense of failure and a sense of self-doubt there's even um identify you you'll hear even CEOs talk sometimes about having impostor syndrome where they've had seasons of success but that they don't feel really qualified to be doing what they're doing doing and we can experience this in our Christian walk and in our vocations and as uh leaders of our our families something maybe you once found joy in has now become something that that ties you down sometimes from an optimistic standpoint we'll say oh I'm just managing a blessing and this is true and this is a a great way to look at things sometimes but it can also mean that you know what I I need some help or I need to set some healthier boundaries with the the the new season of life that I am in and then lastly a spiritual burnout when we neglect our spiritual lives and Ministries become just more of a chore and please understand my heart tonight and understand my my statements because I don't don't for one second want there to be any kind of stigma by having these feelings and I don't want to come off with a a a condemning tone in any way but more of a prophetic word that each and every one of us will experience these emotions in different seasons of life it can be in the ministry of the church it can be in the ministry of your vocation which is a Ministry of the church it can be in your family the the list goes on and what takes place often times it's a combination of the what took place at work and then something happened within my family and then I I'm I'm at church doing this or I'm I'm out doing this ministry and it's a combination of all of these things and sometimes we feel almost ashamed for getting tired we feel less than able for running out of breath and maybe feeling as if your spiritual altitude has dropped from the high places and when you're giving your all for the kingdom of God when you're giving your all for your family giving your all in the arena of life it doesn't matter how spiritual you are how anointed you are you are going to at times feel as if you are running on empty you are at times going to feel as if you have hit a wall when you're working rigorously and you're in no condition to continue you're on the verge of collapsing in you and I say you I'm I'm preaching this guy right here you feel like you're quitting you say I I'm just not doing that anymore I'm stepping away from I I can't handle that any more I ask you to get some rest and remember that you have a covenant with God and that Covenant is that you serve a God who promises to give you strength a God who desires to dwell in you and give you power power from on high the title of the sermon tonight is Solomon's Prayer and you can look through first Chronicles at the uh the Genesis and the the whole uh prayer it's it's it's very lengthy in the dedication of the temple but leading up to the dedication of the temple and this permanent dwelling place for God's people the Tabernacle was moved throughout the Wilderness before they got to the land for them promised by God and I ask you tonight imagine being a member of the crew responsible for disassembling the Tabernacle in the wilderness carrying it to the next stop reassembling it over and over and over being ready to move when the fire moves and oh I've preached that before you've got to be ready when when the fire moves and every day they were required to live in anticipation of the fire moving uh whether it be a day they were in a a a specific location or a month or a or or a year this taught them you better never get comfortable in the place you are at God's fire can call you to move at any moment and I've I've preached that before now don't don't don't get too comfortable where you're at you better get ready cuz the the fire could move and you got to be ready to carry that Tabernacle and that's we yes and I believe that yes I've preached it and we've got to be ready to go and that fire moves but when you carry that Tabernacle day after day when you're spending time with your family and that fire moves and when when you've got something else planned and that fire moves again in the night or in the morning and you're you're preparing and making a place for the presence of God you can get tired you can get weary you can not be hold in your mind your body and your spirit you can be doing everything God called you to do and yet you wake up and the motivation that was there a week ago or a month ago or a season ago just doesn't seem to be burning like it once was and or I'm I'm moving this again and it's starting to seem a little bit like a a chore I've been doing the same thing over and over and over again it was a a NeverEnding job church can feel like a never ending job our workplaces our family amilies can feel like a NeverEnding job this was part of the immense task of a Wandering people carrying with them their place of worship a portable tent of multiple layers of linen and and Badger skins not to mention the silver sockets the poles and the other components being ready to move whenever the fire moved whether it be day or night hot or cold no matter how you felt it was time to move it must have been a bone wearing labor intensity job how they so very much longed for a permanent House of God and a place of worship and to build God a permanent dwelling place no doubt had been upon the hearts and the minds of the people for hundreds of years but I use that as an example to us to God's people people I speak to here tonight tonight who work 40 to 60 hours a a week who do everything they can to provide for their families who clock in and clock out and multiple jobs in some cases and you get to midweek and and maybe your work schedule precludes you from doing that and you try to be here Sunday morning Sunday night or you have personal Ministry maybe there's areas of the church that you serve in and maybe it's the choir the praise team musicians and Technical staff ushers or greeters or Sunday school or uh or just because you might not serve in a particular role you you have a very stressful vocation uh uh you're you're you're you're you're you're working in the every day and and and serving God we we have so many Medical Care Professionals here here and so many First Responders and so just a just an array of of different vocations that you deal with some stressful stressful stressful things things that you deal with with no sleep and things that you deal with where you know I'm not probably not going to be able to take a lunch break today and some of you Minister and the hospitals and all kind of where where where you're the one with families sometimes at the last moments where they see a family member think of the Jones Mortuary which the the interactions you all have with what a Ministry just ministering to people in most cases the lowest some of the lowest points of their life day after day after day policemen firefighters uh uh whatever vocation you have it comes with stress and then you leave that and you many of you have a a Ministry within the the church and with your family and you've got all of these things and and you can hit a wall and you can have seasons where you're you you started something and you're at an all-time high and you can be right in God's ordain steps and still yet feel that lack of motivation and lack of that feeling that I once had so I can compare that to us as we live our daytoday lives are knowing that we're trying to create a place for God's presence to dwell the Earthly Temple for God's presence to dwell that we do all this to to to to make an impact on our family or to see a a hurting soul to comfort a soul a soul to turn their l life over to God and we see that Solomon begin his prayer outside of this newly constructed Temple oh and it had elaborate furnishings and we have a lot of resources and he acknowledged and praised God and the covenants he had made with his people we who describe ourselves as Christians following the teachings of Christ Christ we have what we call and you've heard them before called dedicatory prayers prayers of dedication often times these occur at the opening of new faith-based facilities or the consecrating of new church buildings or we dedicate our newborn children to Jesus and the point is we are offering to God our Ministries our facilities our children we're saying Lord we dedicate or cons consecrate this to you for your service and we know that prayer is not nearly so much about us as it is about Christ in us it's not about getting our will and plan enacted by God as much as it is conforming through prayer Our will to his prayer is about submission to to God's ideas and God's plans and God's wills and in his book oswal Chambers he in his book entitled if ye shall ask he said it is not so true that prayer changes things it's that prayer changes me and God has so constituted things that prayer on the basis of redemption Alters the way we look at things prayer is not a question of necessarily alter ing things externally but of working on this inside Temple this inside disposition and through prayer we align our attitudes and Ambitions with God's Eternal plan and his purpose that we submit to him there was no uncertainty to Solomon as he reached out to God his confidence was anchored securely in God's word and the truth that he served a God who would keep his Covenant he served a God who would maintain the promises that he made to his people and I want every individual under the sound of my voice tonight and again I speak this out preaching to my so you might turn the monitors up a little bit I'm just joking I'm just saying I'm preaching to myself that you do have a covenant with God I I I I hope you didn't come expecting something more uh theologically deep than than that tonight but I I do feel that statement on its own that statement on its own can truly build our faith and and get us to the next step and get us to the next day that statement on its own on that you everybody point it yourself and say me I have a covenant promise and I want you to know tonight that when you experience these feelings and you experience that hitting of a wall that weariness and that that doubt and that lethargy at times it's not a lack of faith and it's not a lack of anointing and it's not a lack of spirituality but it's because you are a human and you live your life making sure that there's a place for God's spirit to dwell Solomon's Prayer he stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel and he spread forth his hands for Solomon had made a Brazen scaffold of five cubits long and five cubits Broad and three cubits high and he had set it in the midst of the court and upon it he stood and he kneel down this great King Solomon kneeled down upon his knees before all of the congregation and he spread His Hands to Heaven and said oh Lord God of Israel there is no God like thee in the Heaven Nor in the Earth noce this statement which keepest Covenant and showest mercy upon thy servants that walk before thee with all their hearts but will God in very deed dwell with man on the earth he asked behold Heaven and the heaven of Heavens cannot contain thee how much less this house which I have built have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant and to his supplication oh Lord my God God to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee that thine eyes may be open unto this house day a night upon the place whereof thou Hast said thou W wouldest come and place thy name there to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant and thy People Israel which they shall make toward this place this is Solomon's dedicatory Prayer of the temple hear thy from thine Dwelling Place even from heaven and when thou hearest forgive me verse 40 says now my God let I beseech thee thine eyes be open and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place and as you go down to chapter 7 and I would invite everyone to read these passages of second Chronicles now when Solomon had made an end of praying our key verse the fire came down from heaven and it consumed the burnt offerings and it consumed the sacrifice the sacrifice those people that had been carrying that Tabernacle from day to day uh hunger and tired and conflict with each other at times and everything else not knowing what the de next day might hold raising children while they doing it and experiencing death of their family members while they did it from day to day but as they got once again to the temple and Solomon prayed this prayer the fire of God once again came down the fire of God if you will once again met them right where they were I want you to know that God honors our prayers and God honors our dedication unto him and I want you to know tonight that I want you to know tonight that you have a covenant you have a covenant with God and we serve a god who's never going to leave us and he's never going to forsake us and no matter what season you might find yourself in tonight no matter where you might find yourself in tonight there is a fire when you pray that dedicatory prayer when you dedicate yourself to the Lord that he's going to send down once once again you might have hit a wall you might feel doubt you might feel like an imposture you might feel like a failure but please know you're right where God wants you to be you might have just crawled in here tonight but God sees your faithfulness and he's ready to send his fire down again and he sees every second he sees every minute he sees your faithfulness he sees your heart he sees how you care for your family he sees every time clock that you punch in and he hears your prayers and you have a covenant with him would you give him a hand clap of praise oh and Solomon was he would Solomon wrote these words and his prayer was you you talk about a dedicatory prayer that is some beautiful stuff and he he got it from somewhere in the Book of Psalms 8933 he we read nevertheless my loving kindness will I not utterly take from him nor suffer my faithfulness to fail my Covenant will I not break nor alter the thing that has gone out of my lips once have I sworn by my Holiness that I will not lie unto David his seed shall endure forever that Covenant that that davidic promise that promise from the Messiah all the way down to you that inheritance that you have his seed shall endure forever and his throne as the son before me it shall be established forever as the moon and as the faithful witness in heaven saon this is a beautiful way of encapsulating the promise of the Covenant on this beautiful dedicatory prayer of the temple and these beautiful words written by Prayed by solom and no doubt he was influenced greatly by his father we just read about that Covenant that God they serve that Covenant will I not break but maybe more applicable to us is when we get in the book of Jeremiah he said then I said I will not make mention of him nor speak anymore of his name I tried I tried to do what you told me Lord but it got me in trouble with my friends and it got me in trouble with my family and I tried to do what you called me to do and I I thought I was walking in the footsteps that you would lead me to yet I'm facing This calamity yet I feel like this yet it feels like when I sit down to eat or when I lay my head on a pillow it's like there's a a rusted gear just turning in in inside of me that I I I just I can't eat and I and I can't sleep and I I I tried to do what you told told me to to do but why am I having to feel like this and why I'm I'm just going to step away I'm just going to quit I'm I'm tired of doing that stuff anymore then after he got done but his word was in my heart and there I burned up and burned out and on empty but there's still just something something something kindling inside of me and he said it's like a a fire that's shut up in my bones and I was weary with forbearing but I could not stay he felt the stings of his conscience for the Hasty and disobedient perhaps resolution that he had formed but I want you to know that we serve a God so great and so big that he can handle whatever emotion that you might have and he felt ashamed in his own weakness that he did not confide in the promise initially in the strength of God but but as he continued on he continued to realize that no matter what I say or what I do no matter how far I think I can turn away there's still just something there's still just a little bit of kindling that says oh there's a fire shut up in my bones and no matter what comes out of my mouth and no matter how I feel I still know that I have a covenant and I still know that I'm called by God and no matter what season I might find myself in I might be in the lowest of the lows and the depth of the valley and nobody understands me and my family and friends have forsaken me but I know there's a fire shut up in my bones and he said God's word just continued to be in him like a raging fire and he said there there's nothing I can do to stop myself from delivering it I'm going to be tortured if I don't get it out the disciples unto Jesus and he said you going to leave me also and where am I going to go what am I going to do I've gone this far and when you look at Jeremiah he was a he was a true a true patriot if you will and I use that term to say he loved his people he he loved his his country he he heard Pastor mol talk about I love my city I I love Knoxville but and he was so he was filled with unspeakable sorrow because he had to and he was called to announce some judgment on people for their for their wrongdoings and he he hated it like everything he he loved the people he loved his City God let me have a love for my city and a a love for every person that when I if I preach your word can I can I do it the best I can with love Lord let my Let My Words Be pleasing unto you yet preach preaching truth indeed but seeking acceptable acceptable words not not coming off in any kind of way that I that that you take some kind of Pride and you know telling people like it is but but saying Lord I I love my city I I love these people let my life be a light that shines unto them but then he got his feelings hurt because some dear people called him a traitor people that he loved and he he he got like we do sometimes and said God I I did what you told me and I I even did it with acceptable words you you know that I love these people and I I'm not going to do it anymore I'm not going to ever speak of your name again Lord but there was there was a kindling there was a kindling still there was a there's a calling there's still a calling still and each and every one of you when you find yourself in those seasons of hitting a wall when you find yourself in those seasons of weariness and those seasons of doubt and those seasons of of isol ation and Seasons where where where you feel like every person is against you I want you to every single person to know tonight that you have a covenant with God and while you might not be at the highest altitude that you've ever felt like there's a fire there's a kindling of a fire that's inside of you there's a kindling of a a fire of a calling that that has not gone out and no person can take it away it is from God and when Solomon had made an end of his praying fire came down from heaven and it consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifice and the glory of the Lord filled the house Bishop Osburn at the dedication of this church house said carpet's beautiful the lights are beautiful and the Lobby's beautiful and all these aesthetic thing he said yet there's one problem though there's there's one problem the altar is not big enough altar is not and as I look across this house tonight if you been begin to quantify and accumulate at the sacrifice that is in this house the time and the effort and the care and the service and the volunteer hours and the reaching out to people in the community and the diversity of talents and the diversity of callings ministering to people and you begin to put all that sacrifice together we'd have to prop these doors open have to prop those doors out there open and uh was about to say the parking lot might not hold them but brother Courtney when we uh scraped the uh we scrape the snow I was out there giving you words of motivation maybe maybe the parking lot would hold them was like this is a little larger than the other parking lot but there is so much sacrifice in this house and I believe tonight that whatever season you might find yourself in when you come like Solomon did with that sacrifice in your life you you know all of the moments and the time spent and your workplace and providing for your family and ministering in the church and reaching out to others all of them are all of those things are one and the same you say God you see your servant right here and you pray that prayer of dedication you have a covenant that God is going to once again he's going to once again send fire if the musicians would come the ladies Trio our quartet I forget what it was called but they used to sing that song He's I don't believe he's brought me this far to leave me he gave you power to start and I promise you he he's going to show up again I implore you don't throw in the towel just yet don't close up shop just yet you have a covenant we're all so familiar with Acts chapter 2 In this passage and we even I identify as being Pentecostals as believing still in this modern day on the events that took place place on the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2 the Holy Ghost comes in the Holy Spirit comes in and it fills a 120 hungry hearts and tongues like fire come and sit down on top of every head and the Bible says and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance and this is when the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ was empowered with Supernatural power on high we even uh in the in the church world in the lurgical calendar there is Pentecost Sunday and you can look at Art and you can look at stained glass and the different depictions and the imagery that took place on the day of Pentecost and it's a it's a celebration and when we think about Pentecost we think about clapping and singing and jumping and leaping and and and having Joy because God's spirit uh met us they that God's promise came to us and we celebrate that and rightfully so and we continue to do so and it's absolutely appropriate and uh we celebrate the day of Pentecost and do you know what Pentecost did the Holy Spirit came on them and this power and this anointing came unto them and it filled the house it filled build the temple and it sent them directly into the line of fire it sent them directly into spiritual warfare and it that began to break out against them and this infant church was thrust into the heat of battle this alltime altitude this alltime climax sent them scattered abroad and they experienced great persecution so by the time we get to acts chap 4 there were murderer murderers they they' been beaten up pretty pretty good but how did they respond to their battles how did they respond to that word we use tonight that that burnout the Bible says they assembled together again and they prayed that Covenant prayer they prayed that that prayer of promise that prayer of rededication and this is what they said and now Lord behold their threatenings and we see this language again like King Solomon and Grant unto thy servants that with all boldness we may speak Thy Word by stretching forth thy hand to heal and that signs and wonders may be done in the name of the holy Child Jesus and then we get down to verse 31 it says and when they had prayed the place once again was shaken and they were assembled there they that were assembled there were once again all filled with the Holy Ghost Fire and they spake the word of God with boldness the same fire on the day of Pentecost came to them two chapters later after they had been in persecution after they had experienced some burnout there was still a kindling and I want every person to know tonight under the sound of my voice that you have been given a promise there is a promise of empowerment from on high when you pray that prayer of dedication When you pray that Covenant prayer stand with me the fire of God is going to once again fill Hallelujah fill this Temple and that is the fire of the Holy Ghost Isaiah prophesied that there would be a sign given unto man from God an experience that described as rest in Isaiah 28:11 it says for with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to his people to whom he said this is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest yes this had a practical application in this particular scriptural context in Isaiah but it was also a foreshadow to a day when God would continue to pour out his Spirit up on all people at all points of time over and over and over in Acts 2 in Acts 4 when I'm on the mountain when I'm in the Valley his fire will come once again when you say Lord God you see your servant you know I've cursed you you know I've given you my emotions you you know I've been angry you you know I've had doubt I feel like a failure I've hit a wall but God there's just still something inside of me there's a fire that's shut up in my bones I know I have a covenant with you I know that you have a promise for me oh you'll advocate for things that I didn't even know that I needed to pray for you'll plead my case on behalf of my sins Lord I need your strength Lord I need your healing and that fire will once again come down oh Moses oh the great leader Moses you go into the United States capital and there is a bust depiction over every single individual throughout history there's a a bust of the face of their depiction of Moses because he was the law The Giver of the law what did Moses do after that encounter on Mount Si he came down and became so angry and frustrated with the people I'm I'm talking about about Moses the the author of the pentat the the I'm talking about Moses the deliverer of the Israelites from Egypt I'm talking about Moses he became so frustrated so burned out that he he took those tablets and so angry he had just been in the presence of almighty God God's handwriting right in front of him but yet he became so angry that he slammed him down and broke him but the Bible says he returned once [Music] again oh oh I feel the Holy Ghost and there's a rest in this place there's a rest in this place there's a fire in this place he returned once again and God met him again the word of the Lord came unto Jonah a second time oh that fire is ready to fall in this house that fire is falling on somebody right now that rest is falling on somebody right now you're not a failure you're not a failure you're not an impostor God has called you you are called you have a covenant and let that fire that's kindling Let It Burn right now let that fire burn right now yes Jesus yes Jesus howy God I feel your [Music] presence God myor you will [Applause] [Music] never he will never fa and I trust in God my God made me once again you see your servant you see your servant I'm trying to do what you called me to do never I feel like a failure I don't feel like I'm worthy I don't feel like I have what it takes could you could you take me back to that time where I I was on the mountain could you take me there one more time I said I was quit I said I was stepping away oh but there's something inside of me there's a calling down inside of me oh [Applause] Father [Music] I need to rest I [Music] need I need your comfort I need your comfort I need your strength I need you to plead my [Music] case I'm a guilty I'm a guilty sinner I need you to plead my cause I'm guilty I'm guilty plead my cause pleas my yes [Applause] [Applause] Jesus will never fa I trust in God my sa the one who will God send your fire once again send it again send it again send it again send it again [Music] I oh you see all the hours you oh you see all the sacrifice oh you see the sacrifice you see your servants here you see all this sacrifice send your fire once again send your fire on the hurting heart God send your fire of comfort send your fire of motivation your fire of healing your
