spirit as the praise team sings about that same spirit so many amazing things taking place on this day and also this weekend uh before i get going here i just want to say how proud i am of the student ministries of first apostolic church this past weekend at our tri-state district youth retreat singing and playing and ministering in so many different capacities i honor each and every one of you and i'm so proud to serve with you all all of you tuning in online welcome you and all of you that over the past two years we've developed this term in person kind of stating the obvious a bit but reiterating the fact that we're in person together worshiping and that's not something that we take lightly considering the different circumstances around this world as pastor mccool so eloquently spoke about this morning and brought to our attention uh the different situations from pandemic situations to different oppressive situations to war-torn areas all kind of different circumstances all kind of different hurdles and obstacles that keep and attempt to keep people out of the house of god but here at fac we're not going to take it lightly every opportunity we have to assemble together to lift up that name on high and i honor each and every one of you first verse of scripture i want to speak to you about tonight leviticus 17 11 and then we're going to go to the new testament to romans 5 8 through 11. and again let me say what a tremendous sermon we heard this morning from pastor mccool and then this morning on our our television broadcast from pastor whitley i'm all in and everything just lines up so beautifully as we celebrate the risen savior and talk about the shed blood of jesus leviticus 17 11 for the life of the flesh is in the blood and i have given to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls for it is the blood that maketh atonement for your soul romans 5 beginning at verse 8 but god commandeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners christ died for us much more than being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him for if when we were enemies we were reconciled to god by the death of his son much more being reconciled we shall be saved by his life and not only so but we also joy in god through our lord jesus christ by whom we have now received atonement i want to speak to you for a few moments this evening on the simple topic of finding jesus finding jesus every year around this time easter passover different television networks whether it be the history channel cnn national geographic in keeping with the attention of their viewers will put out different biographies regarding and documentaries regarding the time of christ and the events leading up to him and cnn a few years ago put one out entitled finding jesus and my wife would tell you maybe with her eyes rolled that i watch a lot of these i've seen every single one of them no matter what it's talking about whether it's nostradamus talking about the end of time or whatever it is if it's something centered around end times or religion or jesus or anything i've probably seen it and i've i've probably watched it more than once and my wife said amen and this will talk about uh different historical accounts trying to prove or trying to show different events that there is according to different fields of science whether it be archaeology or or whatever the case proving certain facts and evidence and just trying to gain a little bit more knowledge about the events that took place then so i drive my title on this resurrection sunday finding jesus there's a scarlet thread running throughout the whole bible from genesis to revelation the term scarlet thread comes from the famous story of the scarlet cord or rope that rahab the jerichonian gentile harlot hung out her window as recounted in joshua too the scarlet thread became her means of protection and salvation and two spies had been sent to jericho in advance of the israelites taking of that city and the spies were hidden in jericho by rahab who expressed her faith in israel's god and protected the spies to escape from jericho letting down through her window by means of a rope made of a scarlet thread and this is going to be our scarlet thread uh this this evening but stephen and brother uh nick went to the rodeo the other night so i'm going to show them show them what i've got here so i'm going to try to get this out a little bit maybe that first row if you guys can help me uh i'm going to impress y'all really good here tell me how i i didn't get enough there if one of you josiah won't you help me here buddy i need your help just kind of pull that to your seat but don't pull me off the stage please if you don't mind if i get going too long just give it a little tug here two spies have been sent to jericho in advance of the israelites taking of that city and rahab threw this scarlet cord out by her window by means of a rope made of scarlet thread and the spies told her to tie this cord of scarlet thread in the window with the promise that she and her household would be kept safe in the coming invasion the rope in her window was a sign of her faith that led to her salvation the scarlet rope the color red the color of blood worked for rahab much as the blood of the passover lamb had worked during the exodus every home marked with the blood of the lamb was spared death and this thread of blood this arrow if you will pointing forward to a time to come and as we trace throughout the generations and humanity's means of redemption our scarlet thread of salvation the scarlet thread is a trail of blood which begins in genesis in the garden of eden and it flowed to every generation and age touching every single book of the bible and it started with the killing of animals in genesis because of the nakedness of adam and eve which was revealed by their sin of disobedience next we see abel's offering and the altars built by noah and the altars built by job and the altars built by abraham isaac and jacob and other patriarchs on these altars they sacrificed animals seeking to appease the wrath of a just god against their unrighteousness in moses day god unveiled the sacrifice of the passover lambs and the requirement that people would smear the blood on their doorposts which provided protection from the death angel as it passed through egypt on the night prior to the israelites exodus under the law the people observed daily sacrifices at the tabernacle in the temple for hundreds of years many millions if not hundreds of millions of animals gave their life's blood to help humanity obtain and maintain a relationship with god however their blood was unable to reconcile to humanity fully they served only to establish a pattern pointing toward a future sacrifice that could fully atone for the sins of humanity and blood is one of the essential elements of the human body and if this is too graphic for you tonight i don't want to see your netflix history or the video games that your children participate in but without blood nothing else in our body works nothing lives all organs and components of the body depend upon the blood to deliver oxygen nutrients and life itself and our key text states the life of the flesh is in the blood and the average adult has about seven to eight pints of blood depending on the person's body mass and blood consists of basically four components the red blood cells the white blood cells platelets and plasma the red blood cells the red blood gets its bright red color when these cells pick up oxygen in the lungs and these cells travel throughout the body releasing the oxygen to all of the various tissues and organs of the body which depend upon oxygen for life and the white blood cells the main defenders in protecting the body they travel the blood vessels seeking uh bacteria and viruses and other potential threats to the human body and the platelets these tiny oval uh shaped protein cells that help in the clotting process they gather in the area of an injury a wound or break to block and seal off the leak and these blood cells circulate throughout the body pushed by a pump the heart that beats continuously without ever stopping to rest blood is to be highly respected because life itself is in it when blood ceases to flow through the human body through the blood vessels death is imminent if the blood cells fail to reach any tissue or cell of our body that tissue or cell dies the jewish people have possessed a high regard for the importance of blood and consequently their regard for its importance along with god's commandments pertaining to it contributed to many restrictions in the law pertaining to blood for example the scriptures acknowledged individuals to abstain from eating or drinking of blood genesis 9 4 leviticus 17 10 through 16 and acts 15 29 blood is important blood is sacred blood is the lifeline and god chose to involve it in the infecting of humankind's redemption the idea of for us in 2022 of seeing animals slaughtered in our contemporary worship services would certainly seem foreign it's hard for us to imagine so much bloodshed associated with worshiping god however the shedding of blood was central to old testament worship and its purpose established a pattern of the 613 commandments in the pentateuch the pensee the first five books of the bible 122 commandments give various details on sacrifice and more than 100 other laws provide instructions to the priesthood and the services and rituals associated with the sacrificial system old testament worship always included a sacrifice at the tabernacle or temple the daily sacrifice was a burnt offering every morning and evening double on the sabbath and ten more on the monthly new moon all the feast days including the days of the unleavened bread the feast of weeks the feast of tabernacles had a list of prescribed offerings the total for the year added up to thirteen hundred animals one thousand one hundred and four lambs 116 bulldogs 49 rams and 31 goats in addition to the personal sacrifices of individuals added many more animals to be slain at passover over a quarter million lambs were slain one for every family in the nation then at the feast of tabernacles another quarter million bullocks were slain for the family peace offerings after this all the individual burnt offerings trespass offering sin offerings of the people and the temple officer must have seemed like a stockyard slaughterhouse as the population increased king herod was remodeling the temple and the altar was expanded to 36 feet across the top and 15 feet high large enough to accommodate a large number of sacrifices simultaneously the ground beneath the altar was filled with caverns camels canals and tunnels to drain the blood away from the aryan away from the brook of kidron outside the city sin sin contaminated the blood of humanity the bloodline of all humankind is inherited from adam and thus carries the guilt of sin with it reconciliation requires the shedding of sinless blood if there was no blood there was no salvation if there was no blood there was no justification if there was no blood there was no deliverance if there was no blood there was no sanctification no blood no power no blood no anointing no blood no protection no blood no peace no blood no authority no blood no joy no blood no worship no blood no anointing and on the annual day of atonement the high priest made atonement for the sanctuary the tabernacle the altar and especially for all the people it was the people's sin that defied the things of the tabernacle so as to make it unfit for the holy one blood was the medium of atonement because it had life in it and the blood the offered victim thus substituted and atoned for the soul of the offerer however the animals of the sacrifices only covered sin and it would only push sin for just another year but each sacrifice was a finger pointing toward forward by faith to a future ultimate sacrifice which would be the cure for the sin problem and this scarlet thread would continue to drape and extend from generation to generation from every prophet to every priest to every poet every generation as they would go sacrifice that innocent blood of the lamb or a goat or bullock they would point to a time when we're not going to have to do this anymore isaiah during the time of animal sacrifice he said there's going to be a day when a virgin will give birth and we'll call him emmanuel god with us oh hosea said the messiah is going to come up out of egypt out of egypt will i call my son and that messiah is going to come and he's going to make the worst of places serve the greatest of circumstances that messiah is going to come and he'll be able to overthrow nations and kings through his orchestrated will and every prophet that scarlet threat they just begin to extend it out with another sacrifice each and every year and micah said but you bethlehem though you're small among the clans of judah out of you will come from me one who will be ruler over israel and the prophets every time they would go sacrifice an innocent lamb every passover and every feast and every time they would start to pray and every time they would start to preach about the unrighteousness they would say i know we're doing this right now but there's going to be a day that's going to come soon when we where there's going to be a messiah who's going to have a sinless and blemish-free ministry oh there's going to be a day when there's going to be one who comes and humbles himself and becomes a bondman a servant to humankind he's going to be a perfect sacrifice he's going to preach righteousness to israel he's going to be a stone that causes people to stumble he's going to be despised and rejected he's going to conquer sin and the great he's going to establish a throne everlasting he's going to be bruised for your iniquities and he's going to be a redeemer to the gentiles as well every generation just extending that cord out just a little bit further pointing towards a time to come they would say we've got to be washed by the blood we've got to be sanctified by this blood this blood is what justifies us this blood is what redeems us this blood is what delivers us this blood is what is what gives me healing and there's going to be a time here soon there's going to be one to come who will be the ultimate perfect sacrifice and the scarlet thread interwoven into the fabric of the old testament through the law givers to the judges to the kings the poets and the prophets all pointing forward with every blood sacrifice that there would be a day when this scarlet cord of salvation would show up in human flesh and though sin contaminated the blood of humanity he would be born of a virgin and did not inherit the tainted bloodline of adam and he would be named jesus somebody say that name right now jesus and he shall save his people from their sin his blood was pure and his blood was sinless he would fulfill each prophecy he would perform miracles he was despised and rejected he wasn't a great military hero but he came and he humbled himself he would preach righteousness he would fulfill the tasks of the one for which the ancients foretold he would be the one who which the poets sung about he would be the one for which the prophets preached about and he would be a highway of holiness a connecting link and a mediator between god and man and this scarlet cord would continue to extend itself and it would reach all the way up to a hill called calvary and as jesus would hang on that cross i think of pastor whitley's message from a few years ago at national youth convention i am the door jesus would say i am the door a hand extended to heaven and a hand extended to man he was the highway he was the bridge the mediator the connecting link every prophecy had been accomplished and his final words were it is finished but he was just getting started and as we celebrate today that scarlet court of salvation it wouldn't end there for he'd be placed in a tomb as we heard about this morning and then three days later he would get up out of it and as mary and mary went to find him they got scolded a little bit and as the song you heard it why are you looking for the living among the dead we're talking about finding jesus and we know where he's not he's he's not in the tomb and the scarlet cord wouldn't be cut off the scarlet cord wouldn't have a knot tied on the end of it but that crimson stream would continue to flow that crimson stream would continue to go out jesus had mastered conquered death all power over heaven and earth was in his hand resurrection power was in him but he said i'm not done yet because even pastor mccool this morning is guilty we can't talk about the resurrection without getting into acts and fulfilling the whole plan acts 1 4 tells us and being this is after he had risen from the grave and bringing a symbol together with them commanded them that they should not depart from jerusalem but to wait for the promise of the father it's significant in that 11 of them the men of jesus who jesus picked were galileans judas was the only one from judea but he was no longer with them but the 11 left were galileans and if you've got that map on the board here if you'll notice the map here the 11 men were from galilee they were galileans and right now they were in judea where jerusalem was located right there in that square with the sixth there where jerusalem that's judea and between galilee and between jerusalem is samaria but he says wait here in jerusalem wait here in judea because i'm not done yet why were they there already because god had already determined three times a year of all the males in israel they had to appear before the lord in the holy city of jerusalem they had come from galilee into judea because it was feast time it was the feast of the passover and jesus who was our passover lamb he wouldn't die in any other season and the passover lamb had given his life he had resurrected from the tomb and he had assembled the disciples together and he said disciples before i went up on the cross i was with you but before i went up on the cross i provided for you all in so many different ways i performed miracles in your presence i healed the sick i opened blind eyes i cast demons out you you remember when you all were on the sea and a mighty storm came and i stood up and i said peace be still i've been with you all this whole time before i went to the cross and i've done all of these things in your presence but i've got to go away but i'm not going to leave you here empty-handed i'm not finished just yet but i need you to wait here in jerusalem you've got to wait right here it's expedient for you that i go away for if i go not away the comforter is not going to be able to come to you but if i depart i'm going to send him to you but you've got to wait right here again we see this scarlet cord that was draped down out of jericho it's just continuing to extend just a little bit further there's there's going to be more people that need saved until i come back and you guys you gotta wait you gotta wait right here and they asked him and they still didn't fully understand they they said well this uh acts 1 6 1 6 said they asked him lord well at this time restore again the kingdom to israel currently it was under this gentile roman occupation and before this they had been crushed by the assyrians they had been oppressed and taken captive by the babylonians and they had celebrated passover coming out of the exodus and they started to think back of the times of david and solomon and this great federation of israel and the beautiful temple of solomon that people would come and oh and ooh over and jesus said that's not what i'm talking about i'm talking about a kingdom that's going to be established that is greater than any militaristic might in this world i'm talking about something and a power that's so great that it far exceeds any temple that could be built with human hands and he said unto them it's not for you to know the times or the seasons for which the father has put in his own authority but he says wait right here because he shall receive power i wish somebody would get with me right now this red lifeline is going to extend a little further you also receive power after the holy ghost has come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me in jerusalem and in judea and in samaria and to the uttermost parts of the earth let them know that i came out of the grave let them know that you're saved through the shedding of my blood let them know that something more is coming let them know oh no no no not just jews gentiles as well what about the samaritans oh yeah the samaritans as well what about the romans who have us under occupation oh yeah for them as well for every single person for every single tongue for every single nation this scarlet thread is going to be thrown out and extend just a little bit further let them know that i came out of the grave i'm going to give you disciples all authority to tread over the power of the enemy and nothing shall hurt you before your face thou shall come out against you one way and they're going to flee before you seven different ways i'm going to give you all authority on heaven and earth you'll have authority and you're going to have dominion you're going to be a part of a royal bloodline that allows you the ability to decree what's going to take place in your life it's going to give you the ability to decree what takes place in your community it's going to give you the ability to decree you've got a royal bloodline you are commissioned the blood of jesus christ on your life and i'm going to give you a power inside of you that wherever you go and whatever you say by faith in the name of jesus christ i'm going to give you authority and dominion but you've got to wait right here and as he was telling him this gravity couldn't hold him any longer and jesus ascended into heaven and we know when we get to acts 2 and when the day of pentecost was fully come they were all in one accord and in one place and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled all of the house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire and it sat up on each of them and they were all filled with the holy ghost and to begin to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance verse 32 says this jesus hath god raised up that's what we celebrate today whereof we are all witnesses 36 says therefore let all the house of israel know assuredly that god hath made the same jesus whom ye have crucified both lord and christ who crucified him not just them it was me and you it was all of us together all have sinned and come short of the glory of god just as much as they voted to put him up on the cross our sin votes and puts him up on the cross and when they heard this they were pricked in their heart and said unto peter and the rest of the apostles men and brethren what shall we do then peter said unto them repent the first step in the plan of salvation repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ you've got to be baptized in the name of the one who died for you you've got to be baptized in the name of the one the perfect sacrifice who shed his blood for you but that's not all that's not all and ye shall receive the gift of the holy ghost for this promise is unto you that scarlet thread it's just getting a little bit length it's it's still continuing to go it's unto you and to your children and to all that are afar off even as many of the lord our god shall call and what we celebrate today on this resurrection sunday what we proclaim today out on our sign he is risen it's the same thing we preached last sunday it's the same thing bishop preached about wednesday night it's going to be the same thing we talk about this wednesday night next sunday it's going to be implemented in our message again because we preach it every single time we get up because it's the gospel it's asking forgiveness for your sins it's getting baptized in the name of jesus and it's being filled with his power from on high no matter what we preach about whether it's noah building an ark or we get into revelation and there's horns and beasts and sixes and who knows what it's the plan of salvation so as we find jesus tonight rahab the harlot the prostitute those are some demeaning shameful names aren't they gentile her faith in extending this scarlet thread rope out saved herself and her entire family from destruction when she hung from her window the scarlet thread represents the blood of jesus that would be a lifeline that would extend to all that are far off all the way to april 17 2022. this harlot became a hero because of her faith and she would provide the imagery and the hope and though the world defined her as a woman of ill repute and that was putting it nicely we would go on to see that she would be listed by saint matthew in the lineage of jesus christ that this bloodline is going to come right from the jericho wall that any no matter who you are no matter what you've done no matter where you came from no matter what this world describes you as and tries to place labels on you that the blood of jesus christ is for every single person and all you've got to do is just get a hold of this lifeline so what do we do today why do we talk about this stuff so much we partake of the lord's death and burial by repentance and water baptism in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins applying the lord's sacrifice to us personally and bringing reconciliation and justification but complete salvation comes when we partake in christ's life and resurrection by receiving the holy ghost in leviticus 14 14-18 this scripture deals with the cleansing of a leper leprosy in the old testament was a type of sin someone with leprosy would be referred to as a dead man walking and due to this just so ferocious disease it would be used to as imagery of the nature of sin but what this text shows us that the leper could be cleansed but the leper was not considered clean until blood was applied the priest would place blood on the right ear blood on the right thumb blood on the large toe of the right foot and these body parts represented the areas of a person's life as they are all meant to work together and function effectively and then after the leper was pronounced clean by the application of the blood the priest would apply the oil right on top of the head right on top of the blood excuse me the oil was only applied where the blood was present but after the blood was applied the oil over the blood then the priest dumped the rest of the oil and cleansed and poured it on top of his head which would then run down his entire body and the head is representative of the whole body and when the head is anointed the body is anointed and no wonder we see this imagery when king david said thou anointest my head with oil the blood would have to be applied and then oil would be placed on top of it first blood then oil first it's cleansing then it's power stand with me the bible says without the shedding of blood there is no remission there's no pentecost unless there was a passover you have to go to calvary before you get to the upper room the pathway to his power is soaked in blood and it's getting a hold of the scarlet thread that runs throughout the fabric of the bible and if you want to walk in the power of the lion of the tribe of judah you first have to be covered in the blood of the lamb in the importance of this to you and i as we look at our salvation as we acknowledge the cross this weekend and acknowledge the resurrection of our lord and savior jesus christ as pentecostals who you know we just can't we we're going to get there before pentecost sunday right but as we see the complete plan of salvation before our eyes we see that we first have to have the blood and then the oil is applied the holy spirit answers to the blood the holy spirit will witness to the blood the holy spirit testifies and waits for the blood and when the blood is applied it screams out to the holy spirit and the holy spirit the holy ghost shows up first it's the blood then it's the oil asking forgiveness for our sins getting baptized in the name of jesus applying the blood of our on our lives and then the oil the holy ghost shows up the power shows up and that's why you hear saints of old it says i plead the blood because they know they know when i begin to plead the blood over any circumstance or situation when i begin to apply the blood on that circumstance it invokes a power from on high that's why they sing about i plead i plead the blood you can't have my you can't have my you can't you can't you can't you can't because i pled the blood in our judicial system imagine going in to a courtroom to the plea arraignment and the judge says how do you plea if you said innocent you'd be lying if you said guilty you know there's going to be a severe punishment for it some of us plead the fifth and don't do anything that's another sermon that'll be next sunday but we say as the judge in our life as satan sits before us and said looks at these sins that you've committed look at this past that you have look at all the things that you've done you can stand right before satan and look him right in the eyes and said i plead the blood of jesus christ oh and when you plead the blood the oil comes next when you plead the blood it cries out to the holy ghost and there's a power from one high and that's no accident that the language says that you have an advocate you sing about that he's never lost a battle he's also never lost a trial and right there in that courtroom of life no matter what circumstance or situation you're facing you can say i plead the blood of jesus christ and the holy ghost begins to work and show up oh i got this doctor's report right here you want to hear what it says i don't have an answer for it but i plead the blood over it in the name of jesus christ and when you start putting that blood on it oh something begins to cry out and there's a power from on high there's a resurrecting power from on high that authority and dominion has been placed into your situation and you got to just get a hold of it you got to get a hold of it it's being extended out from generation to generation there's power over every circumstance there's power over every situation oh i've got turmoil in my marriage you need to get a hold of this right here i plead the blood i don't have the answers but i know if i plead the blood of jesus christ the holy ghost is going to show up and advocate for things that i didn't even know that i needed to pray for yes jesus it's been several years now and i wouldn't embarrass her for the world but i see sister emily wilson back there and we just we we had a great time at youth retreat the other night me and kelly were talking to her and audrey just after the service and all of our young people everywhere and it was just a it's just a special special time everybody had prayed we were all together rejoicing it's just just just great [Music] i remember several years ago now and the story becomes even more horrific at first when i have a daughter of my own we were at a restaurant i know exactly we were where we were at we were in downtown knoxville at a restaurant there and it was a time of vacation it was just had a good sunday and people were out and it's just a just a great smooth sunday and we got a phone call from brother dean wilson this is emily's grandfather and said bishop we found emily at the bottom of the pool and she's unresponsive and right at that very moment i saw my grandparents and my mom and dad and i know brother and sister wilson were on the other end of the line and they were grabbing a hold of this right here i don't have the answers i'm not there with them i think brother dean was close in the area and he started driving there to him we don't know all the details we don't know all the specifics but she's unresponsive we need to plead the blood of jesus there's nothing else we can do we can't take her to the hospital right now there's there's nobody we can call there's nothing else that we can do i can't imagine the hopeless feeling of her parents i can't imagine the hopeless feeling of of the unknown but some saints of god begin to get a hold of this scarlet thread and they begin to get a hold of the promises of the blood the blood still has power [Music] it's never lost its power what's the choir seeing the blood still works and they begin to lift up to heaven almighty god right now we don't know all the details we don't know all of the situation but god we plead the blood right now in the name of jesus christ we need you to show up we're desperate for you to move and it was at some time later they said emily became responsive and we begin rejoicing and we begin celebrating and she sits right there tonight as a walking living testimony of what praying parents of what praying grandparents of what getting a hold of this scarlet cord will do and i want to invite every single person under the sound of my voice the worst thing we could ever do in this life and in this church is to create some kind of stigma that if you're coming to the altar that you just have such a sinful life and there's something that you need absolutely not this alter is for every single person every single service every priest every singer every single person every single time and i want to invite you this morning this evening excuse me whatever you're facing whatever circumstance it might be no matter how hopeless it may seem could you come and if you want to symbolically right now just get a hold of that scarlet thread and let it be an acknowledgment that i'm holding on to your promise i'm holding on to that power that's in the blood oh and i just believe tonight i just believe tonight when you cover the blood of jesus christ over your situation oh that that blood begins to cry out and then oil is placed the holy spirit comes down the holy spirit begins to work the holy ghost begins to advocate oh i believe it right now in jesus name
