serve with the greatest if you have your Bibles this morning could just just remain seated we're going to begin reading at Romans chapter 5 and we're going to read the first 10 verses of scripture and then take our key text from Romans 1 17 Romans chapter 5 and we'll begin reading at verse number one therefore being justified by faith we have peace peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ we could stop right there and that would be a great sermon in and of itself by whom also we have access by faith everybody say by Faith by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in Hope of the glory of God and not only so but we glory in tribulations also knowing that tribulation worketh patience and patience experience and experience hope and hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us for when we were yet without Strength In Due Time Christ died for the ungodly for scarcely for a righteous man will one die yet per adventure for a good man some would even dare to die but God commandeth his love toward toward us and that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us much more than being now justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him for if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his son much more being reconciled we shall be saved by his life and then I'll take my key text from Roman rans 1:7 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from Faith to Faith as it is written the just shall live by faith I want to speak to you for a few moments this morning on the topic you can't DIY you can't DIY do it yourself you can't do it yourself we've already prayed so we're going to get right into it this this morning in the in the day of shorthand uh lingo and in the day of abbreviating everything through our text messages and through our correspondence you can't Dy Our Generation could be called the self-help generation the DIY generation if you will you could just look around at any bookstore or audible books or scroll through your reels just don't scroll for too long you could type in whatever your selective search engine is and there is a plethora I don't know how many or if you can quantify a plethora but it's a lot a plethora of selfhelp books on practically every subject imaginable what kind of help do you need well there's probably a book for that or there is a YouTube tutorial designed authored specifically for you and if you even say it out loud it'll probably come on your phone just to say in his book titled psycho Babel exploding the myths of the self-help generation author Steven Briar's observed this phenomenon he said we live in the age of self-improvement and as we go about our daily lives we are subjected to a million messages some subtle and some less so we can get online and we can find ways that would probably make us feel or to seem happier you know if I could just adopt that uh specific health lifestyle or that that regimen of that workout regimen or you know bu this supplement if if I could do all of these things together join the 4:30 a.m. Club you know where you wake up at 4:30 a.m. and you do that once or twice and that's about as far as I as I got with it then I that would be a happier person if I could just you know get fit and and eat healthy and take those proper supplements or you know if I'll follow uh this person person you know I could have a six figure income within a week you know and you you share it out and create your own YouTube channel nobody else has fallen for that before okay just me but uh you there's all of these things that make you and could make you more successful happier more fit uh more zeros behind your uh bank account if you will and this is in turn spawned into a prolific multi million dooll industry of Stadium filling gurus best selling books magazines websites uh social media accounts telling us how to be happier a better fit richer and all around of course better people I will confess I am grateful for DIY tutorials when before or was born it's kind of a uh maybe a bit of an urban legend that or there's this this this great fear and maybe a a a myth around how difficult it is going to PE to put that first crib together so I uh kind of built myself up for it maybe took some of those supplements to prepare myself uh and that crib came in and it was extremely heavy I had to drag it and it it it was in just over a hundred different pieces it feels like so I'm what any smart person would do I Googled the name brand of that uh that that crib and I put how do I put this XYZ the name of that crib together and praise God to you know I asked that question earlier I've got a reason to praise there was a DIY tutorial on YouTube about 26 minutes long step by step Kelly's dad uh he he was here this past week but if you know anything about him he's one of those guys he's a plumber electrician could build a house he could go out in the the hill back here and get all the materials and have a house built and no a week that kind of guy so uh she's like babe are are you gonna be able to put this crib together yeah oh oh oh yeah you real deep voice oh yeah that's that's no problem no problem for me so she it came in are are you sure you're going to be able to put this together maybe we should call somebody or maybe you should FaceTime my dad no no no no no no no no no I can put this I could put this together so while she was at work I I caught a a few hours and I had found that DIY tutorial and I had studied it I had researched it all of you guys that thinks it's some form of masculinity just to throw the directions away I had the directions laid out I had every single utensil the tools were included uh in the Box all of the pieces were included in the box and I laid out every single piece you you you thought the NASA astronauts prepared before they launched up into space I had it completely laid out and I was going to accomplish putting this crib together in less than two hours so I got to work on that 26 minute YouTube tutorial following it step by step by step and I got it all the way finished and it was perfect so I thought Kelly comes home and oh she sees it at first and she's so happy and she maybe she was crying like you put this yeah I put it together how did you do this uh it was pretty easy you know the everything was included you know did you use the directions there were directions you know I just saw the picture on the outside of the box and just begin to assemble it it really it really wasn't that big of a deal well when she began to look it over little did I know that when you install a crib and you put the bed in there's about four different settings of height as the child gets larger and I had enlisted it at the the lowest setting so she went over to it and she was like she couldn't even get her arms halfway down in the crib and she said babe you're going to have have to lift this uh this this bed up of this crib to which I'm like um yeah I can do that no problem she goes well why don't you just come in here and do it real fast well the tools had already been uh thrown out and uh maybe I don't have a good supply of tools that would meet the need of uh going back in and wretching I'm like why don't you just go in there and um yeah I'll I'll put it I I'll fix it no I I I kind of want to see how it works I I want you to I want you to lift that bed up well I ended up having to go to Home Depot to buy those hexagonal whole ratchet set amen started to build my Arsenal up and I got there and I I thought I had the right tool and I kicked her out and I have to put the YouTube tutorial back on she's like hey babe what are you listening to nothing just just uh just trying to keep busy and you know while I'm while I'm doing this and um had no the the the the the uh the screw was uh what's it called when it's uh stripped and uh I got three of the the bolts out and the last one was just kind of there in the corner and I ended up FaceTiming her dad and within about 10 minutes it was put to together but I so I don't come to criticize DIY I'm very grateful for it but you know when I accomplished it brother brother Perry I was I could have come worked for you to do you need me to start tomorrow I mean I was uh very proud of myself but through the DIY assistance we can learn how to do basic Plumbing or tackle minor electrical projects uh work on auto automobiles create the perfect dish hang wallpaper install backsplash reup holster Furniture sounds so much fun no offense to you guys the most researched DIY project in the state of Tennessee this past year was building a fire pit I have a few images today on I would say they are D wh y di y that maybe we all should reconsider certain DIY projects the first one please is a truck bed hot tub I'm not sure why you would do that let's go to the next one who who needs an electrician I mean I I'll do it myself hey I can hang my own TV I don't need anyone's help hey the stud is here somewhere we we'll get it mounted no problem I'll stain it myself hey I does this sink not look so nice hey I'll keep us secure and then I don't really see the problem with this one I think that is uh ingenious and very Innovative ceiling plan this is about what it looked like when I tried to repair that DIY crib there are some things that you shouldn't try to do yourself there are some things that you can't do yourself there are some things that you know I would be very concerned about if you know I was in the midst of a a fire and I uh the saw the fire truck come up and uh the firefighters sitting there maybe on a YouTube tutorial about you know what's the best way to to treat a fire or maybe I was getting on a on an airplane and the the Pilot's reading how to land an airplane I I don't think I would want him uh or her reading that at that point in time or or maybe you're going into surgery and the uh they're sitting there talking to each other well you know what do you think the best way to do this one would be I I don't think that's a good time there are some things that you can't do yourself and there are some things that you don't want somebody else learning about for the first time but with this kind of a a simple uh foundation and a and a simple um illustration for us in the day that we're bombarded with DIY there I want to tell you there is one thing that human beings cannot do for themselves and all of our Innovation and all of our intelligence and and all of our great human achievement you cannot save yourself humans cannot save themselves true Peter did exhort those present on the day of Pentecost he said save yourselves from this untour generation however he was not suggest Ing we can provide for our own atonement from sin or that we do not need a savior rather he was making a call to action salvation requires our participation and our obedience but we could never pay the price or perform the necessary Redemptive work we rely on Jesus Christ for that our key text for therein the righteousness of God revealed from Faith to Faith as it is written the just shall live by faith so we're going to talk about faith to Faith this morning one of the major contributions of the Protestant Reformation was the renewed emphasis on the doctrine of justification by faith this central element of the Gospel had been covered by centuries of neglect and attempts to regulate and control the gift of God by human efforts people relied on their own works for Sal to earn salvation which obvious viously compromise Christ's Redemptive work on the cross in Romans 1:17 Paul is actually using an illusion to habach 2 and4 The Prophet habach wrote during a time when Israel was headed for Judgment at the hand of the Babylonians he questioned he said how long is God's people how long can we hold on during this coming turmoil and the Lord answered by saying that promises would come and the just shall live by faith God has chosen the response of Faith to be the means of justification to both the Old and New Testaments and all attempts to gain Divine favor through our righteousness and our own Works will fail The Book of Romans describes justification as God's Act of counting individual right or just an individual right or just in his sight by that person's faith in God's Redemptive sacrifice through Jesus Christ the word justification is a legal term in which righteousness is imputed or credited to the person rather than extended to the person on the basis of their personal Works what does that mean there's no benevolent task that you can do there's no way that you could possibly live there is no monetary gift or payment that you could make to save yourself the inner cleansing and transforming of a person's life is expressed as sanctification which occurs at the time of the new birth as well as being continued throughout the process of a Christian's life Humanity's need for justification is rooted in God's nature the righteous one will not ignore human sin since the fall Adam's Offspring have needed salvation to bring about A Renewed position before God Humanity was created to be in communion in relationship with God we were called to have dominion over the Earth that doesn't mean dominance that means having Dominion using the resources that he gave us in a responsible manner but s sin created a Chasm and sin created a gulf and sin created this separation from Creator and his creation and because of Adam's Disobedience sin entered into the human race and the relationship with God was broken human unrighteousness has caused separation from God and the gulf caused by Humanity's will for rejection of God's sovereignty results Ed in broken Fellowship the direct opposite of God's original intent for those who he created broken Fellowship soon destroyed the balance and broken Fellowship soon destroyed the purpose and the righteous goal God had planned for Humanity the full measure of Glory of God intended for individuals was frustrated by their sinful Behavior leaving a broken Fellowship between them and God and between one another we know that through his word separation from God is the beginning of death and God warned Adam and Eve that the day they ate of the fruit of the tree they would die in a spiritual darkness and death filled Adam and Eve and their descendants but God in his Mercy gave them the law to point out to the people and to show them how to take this journey and to begin their Journey Back To God Humanity needed to know of his guilt and her guilt of sin and to realize that God would provide a way of restoration by atoning the sacrifice of the Lamb of God on the cross he gave them prophetic hope for the day when the deliverer would come and their sins would be remitted and this spiritual death would be turned into newness of Life many of people and we ourselves I my myself have attempted to at times think that there is something that I could do that would somehow bring me and and make some kind of trade off that I would receive God's mercy and his grace and his repentance and my salvation and it's it's human error and it's natural to the flesh to think these things at times and to perform and act in a manner at times many people have attempted to earn their justification or right relationship with God through their own efforts but you cannot DIY Paul stated in Romans 4:2 that Abraham's justification was not according to his own Works circumcision nor his willingness to offer his son as a sacrifice otherwise he would have had reason to boast in himself rather than God or his willingness to offer his son as a sacrifice was the cause of Abraham's justification these two Acts were however Faith responses to God who honored Abraham's faith and counted it to him for righteousness the position on faith and works in Roman 4 and we're going somewhere just stay with me in James 2 are not contradictory but they are complimentary no one can earn salvation by his or her Works no matter how good no matter how how worthy no matter how commendable Society might depict you as no matter what kind of uh efforts that you do or how much you think of yourself [Music] nobody can earn their salvation only through faith in God can we find God's righteousness that he imputes in us at the same time faith is expressed and revealed in behavior and obedience James wrote that faith that fails to move us to obedience is no faith at all but all humanity is bound by a sinful nature inherited through Adam's sin of Disobedience and please don't misinterpret what I am about to say because yes I 100% believe in the in the word of God when it it talks about train up a child in the way he or she should go and when they're oh they will not depart and I I I celebrate what what God has given me and a and an amazing grandfather who's a a preacher and a an amazing uh father who's a preacher and a and a and an awesome brother-in-law and and so much so many family that are involved in ministries and and sometimes uh you sometimes we'll make the the statement I'm I'm third or fourth generation follower of Christ or I'm a third or fourth generation uh uh uh believing and and trying to Aspire to what the apost did and sought to do and yes I believe those things and I'm I'm thankful for every resource and I'm thankful for every opportunity and I'm thankful for for Godly Parents that that that brought me to church but at the same time more appropo would probably be to say that I'm from a long generation of Sinners all the way back to Adam because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and I would never want those statements for some reason to to resonate to somebody else who as a young person yes I I'm so grateful that I had a mom and dad who would uh wake me up for church and sometimes they had to do it three or four times and almost dump a a bucket of water on my head to get me there but I also know that there are some students and and some young adults who set their own alarm clock and they might be the only one in their family and they might be the only the only witness in their family and I I would never want those statements to to somehow res to somebody else that you know because it wasn't like this uh for me growing up that you know I might not be in the be shined in the in the same Viewpoint the same Viewpoint is all have sinned and come short of the glory of God all all Humanity is bound by a sinful nature inherited through Adam's sin of Disobedience we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God designed for us but while we everybody say we while we were Sinners Jesus came to die for our sins redeeming us from sin and death and reconciling us to God while we cannot justify ourselves we can accept by faith Jesus substitutionary and atoning Death on the cross and be justified in the eyes of God justification can only come through what Jesus did for us on the cross it is a gift to us it's a gift that cannot be purchased it's a gift that cannot be earned it's a gift that cannot be inherited it's a gift that doesn't matter who your mom is or who your daddy is or what kind of offering you can give it doesn't matter what you've done no body can save themselves Isaiah said your righteousness oh so church is so honored to have me here tonight I'm such a tremendous Christian Christlike Apostle like Isaiah said our self-perceived righteousness is just as filthy rags and a stench in the nostrils of God on the other hand those who accept those who believe in the cross receive justification through Jesus Christ the opportunity to begin a new life in God they're born a new of the spirit and they live free from condemnation no guilt exists for those who are just ified by God through Jesus Christ God's justice and mercy work together to provide and Escape From The Bondage of sin and since God has chosen us since God has chosen to count us justified by faith who are those justified by faith that's any person who says Lord I'm sorry for my sin oh Lord I'm going to go down in your name and the name of the one who died for me and he gives you his his his the precious gift of the Holy Ghost he calls you Justified he also chooses not to count our sin because of the work of Christ on our behalf he refuses to remember our P not to remember our past transgressions we cannot be without condemnation and bound by past sins at the same time he remembers your past transgressions no more God thus counts us through Christ as just rather than unjust and this justification does not give us us a license to sin but it gives us freedom from the guilt of past sins and freedom to have power over sin and if we walk in the spirit and not after the flesh then we have no more condemnation would you give him a hand clap of Praise oh I thank you Father I thank you Father for while I was yet in sin for while I was yet a sinner you came down and you died on a cross Bishop used to sing that song he still sings it was written by his cousin Carol McGruder said there was a woman brought to Jesus who was taken in by sin cast out at his feet that day she was guilty and condemned the law said she should pay the price for mistakes that she had made but her shame became rejoicing when she heard her savior say I forgive you I for I wonder if you're forgiven for a moment if you would just stand and maybe give God praise as I said earlier I don't want to be complacent at the cross I forgive you he said I forgive you you are free to go away and sin no more neither do I condemn you for the life that you have lived the greatest words oh would you say it with me right now the greatest words ever spoken is I forgive oh Heavenly Father we thank you Lord we thank you for your mercy and your grace I thank you for forgiving me of my sins God I thank you for removing my past transgressions it's nothing I can do it's nothing I've done it's nothing no one else has done for me but only you only you yes Jesus what he did for her he will do for you praise the Lord he did it for me would you give him a hand clap of Praise this morning Lord we're acknowledging this morning your death burial and Resurrection you can be seated Hallelujah God always desired to be in relationship with his people God desires to be in a relationship with you amen amen a seemingly impossible activity due to God's demand for sin's payment and his own Holiness how how could a holy God coexist in any manner with sin he couldn't there was a chasm in a gulf but Jesus provided the covering for all Humanity's sin and God has not dealt with Humanity according to the demands of death and punishment but according to Grace and according to Mercy and according to Justice and in The Cross by our faith both God's justice and our justification are fulfilled by the blood of Jesus Christ Grace is the basis of justification while obedient faith is the means by yet we are Justified you cannot do it yourself and you have to have faith in his name God is the justifier of those who place their faith in the name that is above every other name that name Jesus Christ faith in the Redemptive work of Jesus Christ I believe that Jesus can save me I believe that Jesus can heal me I believe that when I turn my life over to him that I can call on him only trust in God's provision through the cross is the door of justification for only only the cross answers the problem of human sinfulness and faith in Jesus Christ involves the heart faith in Jesus Christ involves the Mind faith in Jesus Christ involves the will and Peter explained to the priest that salvation comes from no other source or name than Jesus Christ I've got to have that named in my very being I got to have that name engraved in inside of me one of the most tremendous memories I have growing up and I see sister Debbie debus here this morning is my I I was about seven or eight years old and my dad said hey're we're going somewhere today and I asked him where we're going he said we're going up to see the hospital and we're going to see Bishop Lewis Hera and my dad uh took me up there to see him and this is the father of sister uh Debbie debus and many of us know Bishop Lewis Hera Pastor Lewis Hera unbelievable singer songwriter started so many churches we make that statement sometimes only heaven will be able to account with in terms of his ministry truly only heaven will be able to account for the many people he ministered to and I I got to go up and see him in the hospital and he was on up in age and heading toward the end near of his end of his life and his faculties had began to decrease and and we visited with him and it was a just a a an experience and something I I looked back to and just absolutely cherish that you know I got to go see him and be with him in the hospital and at that time he was still able to correspond and and talk well as the the months get on went on he uh got to the extent uh sister Debbie am I telling it right that sometimes he didn't even know your name when you came into a room and I didn't know his family's name and but a few months later as close to when his time on Earth would come to an end the doctor came in to see him and the faculties of this Earth had begin to pass didn't always recognize his family members names doctor said can you write something down for me then The Story Goes Bishop Herod took a pen and he began to write then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and I I believe he said Doc and that means you too I want to have that name so ingrained in my life and my conscious in my being that when I take my last breath if I can say nothing else at all can I say that name of Jesus can that name of Jesus just come out from me when when my time on Earth here has passed when when it's time for me to go home can my can my last words can my last breath be Jesus and I celebrated over that we celebrate over that story and we celebrate over such a a giant a pillar several years later after my wife and I got married after the crib was put together we had the privilege to go to St Petersburg Russia and teach at a a school and minister in the church services there and the our missionary there before service he said hey I was asking I I didn't know just a ton about his background and everything he said he goes I grew up in in West Virginia he said you don't you don't know a uh lwis Hera do you and I said do I know do I know Lewis and and then he said um you know his daughter uh Debbie by any chance and I was like she was my math teacher and I I don't know if she would proclaim the same that I was her student I wish I would have behaved better but I got to tell him about that and I got to share that story and that story was translated and there was a man out in the audience who had had had never made a start for God in his life and through that testimony and through that story his eyes just began to weep and we prayed for him that day and the impact that somebody who got that name just ingrained in their life and ingrained in their soul and their and their very essence knowing that the only way that I can go and make it from day to day the the only way I can face tomorrow is just through that name of Jesus Christ from Faith to Faith it'll extend not only in your personal relationship but it'll go out to your family it'll go out to your community it'll cause you to write songs and start churches and it will impact people and souls across the entire Earth if you have faith in his name I'm coming to a close it's the good news I don't ever want to become complacent around the cross I don't ever want to get in my spirit or my soul that it's something I could do or something I've done or something we've done only through the name of Jesus Christ only through the shed blood of the Lamb the law in the Old Testament was the school Master pointing us forward to Jesus Christ the first five books of the Bible called the pentu trace the human story from creation through the fall of Eden through the flood Abraham and the people of Israel with the revelation of The Commandments and Promises given to Moses on Mount Si the law revealed God's holiness as a guide to Greater Revelation in which law would be written in the hearts of people by his Spirit the later historical books accent both God's promises and human failure to enjoy him however there were moments when a leader found Hope found comfort and joy in living for God yes the prophet preached and would get on to Israel for its failures but they would always proclaim a hope for them and their children in returning to God because they were pointing forward that were saying there's a time there was a messiah coming there's a messiah coming there's a messiah coming and in his ministry on Earth Jesus spoke with power and authority and God chose to enter human history through his son Jesus to speak to all of his people and who are his people you are his people if you have faith in him if you have faith in his Redemptive work he wants to have a relationship with you all of our hopes every one of our hopes are found in Jesus death on the cross at Calvary and in his resurrection from the tomb of Jerusalem and Faith everybody say faith faith connects these events to to our Salvation experience on Earth and it links Our Hope to New Jerusalem nothing less than the death of the Son of God could accomplish this transformation the cross ministers hope the cross ministers hope to every person entrapped in a sinful Lifestyle the cross ministers hope to every single believer the cross ministers hope to every person in need the cross ministers hope to every person in need of healing or provision the cross ministers hope let us never become complacent in the shadow of the Cross I've got to remember it I got to get close to it I got to make every decision in the shadow of it I've got to know that there's a place that I can go to cry out to the one who died for me stand with me being justified in Christ Faith puts all of this together I can approach his throne of grace with boldness with boldness knowing that the God I serve is eager to hear and answer my prayer yes he has the Majesty of a king yes he has the militaristic might of a Mighty War General but that gift of the Holy Ghost that throne of grace that I can enter into with boldness it allows me to cry out Abba Father and I have that intimacy between a child and their father and I'm able to commune with him through prayer no longer is there a separation no longer is there a Chasm or a gulf but I can go right unto him and say God I love you Jesus father I need you you see the condition that I am in Lord forgive me of my sins Lord I die out to you today Lord I need a miracle in my life Lord I need you to make a way when there was no way Lord I need you to touch my mom I need you to touch my dad I need you to touch my children Lord I need provision in this situation God I need discernment in this situation Lord bring me some certainty Lord you see the storm that's on the horizon I need you to get me through it and there's no longer a divide and when you call out on that name of Jesus I wonder if somebody would just speak out that name for a moment Jesus Oh Heavenly Father we're calling out on your name Jesus we're acknowledging the death burial and Resurrection today and Lord we know through that we can approach your throne of grace with boldness today so with that in mind with the gospel message knowing that you serve a savior who's ready and eager to hear every word that you say I open up this altar today for you to know that whatever you have need of he's here he's here to answer he's here to listen he's here to deliver his shed blood you can't do it yourself you can't do it yourself but I know somebody who can I know someone who can make a way I know someone who can provide I know someone who can restore call out on that name yes Jesus God in your name [Music] Jesus oh I feel his Spirit In This Place name Jesus see the broken heart God in your name Jesus [Music] remember the cross remember the cross this morning I have [Music] faith I have faith this morning that you hear me I have faith this morning yes Jesus yes Jesus it's your shed blood nothing to make a way right now father you yes Jesus yes Jesus J yes Jesus yes Jesus I believe in your word I believe [Music] in call on you this morning Father you can make worthy I know you're going to make way yes Jesus me in Merc I [Music] am in the blood of your sacri hear those words this [Music] morning shame is gone guilt is gone your transgressions are [Music] gone hope in this [Music] situation my [Music] are the blood of your sacrifice your blood GL and BR me my dirty R are [Music] purified I wonder if you would link up with someone right now and we're going to have just a word of unified prayer because yes yes we serve a God who forgives us and cleanses as far of our sin but his relationship with us his word to us is a gift to humanity IT Supplies strength in times of weakness it gives us wisdom in times of confusion it provides us with hope in times of Despair it allows us to Proclaim Triumph in the face of defeat and it gives us Faith from Faith to Faith the same faith that gives me the Salvation experience and links all of these things together the same faith that I have when I face what's coming at me today and Faith to Faith what's coming at me tomorrow and each one of us place our faith in his word and in the cross so with one United voice and the body of Christ link together whatever you're facing whatever you have need of I want you to know that we serve a God who hears your needs and cry out to him right now Heavenly Father Lord with one voice with one b body Lord we come unto you Lord we have communion with you Lord we remember your body we remember your blood Lord
