the Lord of lords and we collectively together worship and pray and give and we believe that he inhabits the Praises of his people and we believe the transformation can take place before we leave this service amen amen what a great fantastic word we heard this morning from Pastor mol Wild by nature and I would hope this is a maybe a uh what's it called a sequel uh to that I've told you in the past uh Bishop sometimes I like to brag of you know I preached this on Sunday morning and I had no idea what he was going to preach on Sunday night and it was like God was just harmoniously weaving it together and usually with me if they're preaching about holding on in the AM service I'm preaching about letting go in the PM service and I I sometimes feel like I'm not on the same page I kid but uh I I believe that God is speaking to us uh through his word and I'm excited about that if you have your Bibles with you turn with me to the book Book of Genesis 3 and we'll read verses 1-6 and then we'll look at Luke 4 1-4 and then James 1 and 12 we'll get right into it in Genesis 3:1 it says now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made and he said unto the woman yay hath God said ye shall not eat of every tree tree in the garden and the woman said unto the serpent we may eat of the fruit of the Trees of the garden but the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden God hath said ye shall not eat of it neither shall ye touch it lest you die and the serpent said unto the woman ye shall not surely die for God do know that in the day ye eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be his Gods knowing good and evil fast forward to the Book of Luke we see this Encounter With Jesus that we read about and we've preached about and we use his inspiration for so many facets of our lives and this story is also cross referenced in the other synoptic gospels but in Luke it states and Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan and was led by the spirit Into the Wilderness being 40 days tempted of the devil we see this uh another instance of communication and dialogue with Satan and in those days he did eat nothing and when there were ended afterward he hungered and the devil said unto him if thou be the Son of God command this Stone to be made bread and Jesus answered him saying it is written that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God we see these two different responses to the dialogue with the devil two different responses one subc coming to the Temptation and the other resisting it James 1112 telling us blessed is the man that endureth Temptation for when he is tried he shall receive the Crown of Life which the Lord has promised to them that love him I I want to preach to you for a few moments this morning or this evening whatever time it might be with the title what's in your playbook would you pray with me right now Heavenly Father we thank you today Lord we thank you for what you've done throughout this day already in our am service and in our PM service Lord we thank you for every individual here and Lord you know all of the situations that everyone brought in here you know the struggles and the things and the problems in life that everyone faces Lord but we look to your word tonight for answers for clarity for fresh Vision we thank you and Praise You In jesus' name we pray amen what's in your playbook about three weeks ago or maybe a little bit longer it was two weeks before uh kickoff I had the privilege to go down to the University of Tennessee football practice with Brother Steve hyr and our great booster Jason Huff uh and we got to go watch Tennessee practice football and I've seen them play many games and attended a few practices when I was younger but I was so taken back uh when going to the practice at the attention to detail in every single facet from the time you walked in the door with the those that would greet you and then you would look at these different time clocks that were listed for the different position groups and coaches of of the offense and defense and then linebackers coaches and receivers coaches and then training personnel and nutritionist and then support staff and uh camera audio video all all of these different departments all of these different factions just coming together in just absolutely perfect timing within a very constrained time frame and you could also feel that desperation in the urgency in the air as well as you were two weeks away from practice and or from opening kickoff and due to NCAA regulations there's only a certain amount of time that you could practice so in in the truest sense of the word every second was meticulously planned out every drill every play every Personnel Group and it was just really an amazing thing to see an inspiring thing to see as well and I can't help but think that you know we Aspire and desire to have that same level of excellence in the constraints in the context of a church service as well but it led me to start thinking about you know how does everyone know where to go and how does everyone know what to do and even at the close of practice practice wasn't even really over yet those players came and greeted everyone was there and said hey thank you for being here as they had been taught and instructed to do and then they went on with their own drills after after that was concluded and it got me to thinking like how does everyone know exactly what it is to do I mean do they practice for practice and that question is absolutely they do and as you start to research this I came across a few uh different studies and research articles and uh even one particular article uh talking about different teams playbooks now when I think of a A playbook for football I think of the X's and O's and that is in indeed in these playbooks but many playbooks consist of 50 to 100 pages of detailed instruction everything from how to put your uniform one everything from what time you're supposed to be at the team meetings during the weekday and what time you're supposed to be at the team meetings on the weekend and what you're supposed to do on game day and who's in charge of this and who's in charge of that the structure of a Playbook tells the story of how a team builds a scheme from the ground up it's the football team's Bible if you will playbooks usually are well over 100 Pages whether they be on school on Old School printouts or PDF downloads or modern iPad apps Les Miles former coach National Championship coach of the LSU Tigers and many other programs had A playbook that was 480 Pages despite what you might think about the Simplicity of his schemes during his time at LSU but before you got into anything related to football whatsoever there was around 50 Pages listing about the captain's responsibility team policies pages of dos and don'ts during practice and what you should do on game day and coaches like him put their teams ethos for the season upfront and despite the drill Sergent nature of coaches these philosophy sections are where they can actually explain themselves and players and coaches and Personnel alike are instructed to memorize every single line because there's going to be a time where they're in an environment when there's a 100,000 crazy people maybe even some of them inebriated screaming their heads off trying to distract and disrupt them and they're also um a great Danger on the field as well as uh a bunch of other guys are in modern day armor trying to take their head off and it's going to be imperative that they know what to do and imperative that it's that they are able to communicate in these hostile environments a few playbooks here the first one I'll show you is uh Gus Malon from the University of Auburn he on the front page of his Playbook when he was at Auburn he had the exact dimensions of the field listed out it's like well I know all about football but he wanted to make sure that you knew on the hashes and uh where that you're supposed to line up at to the absolute inch next slide please he also put in it who we are and you can kind of see what I was talking about a balanced attack and having misdirection and throw we'll throw the book at them we'll be we'll be so proficient in our game planned and run just so succinctly and as that of unified body that the opposing team will not even be able to stop us and then as you continue on some playbooks and this is from Steve Spurrier while he was at Florida Hall of Fame coach one of his playbooks instructed his guys and it was one of the five most important things he highlighted how to get into a huddle I I mean these are division one Premier athletes I mean these guys compete in the Olympics for the United States and they're other respective I mean these are the premier athletes in the world and one whole ch chap is dedicated to line up in the Huddle Story Goes that the players were supposed to know how to do this and he started practice and he said I shouldn't have to teach you how to line up in the Huddle you should know this one coming to practice because I gave you the Playbook and you knew it on the first couple plays while they were scrimmaging they lined up I think the center was out of alignment with the left guard or something like that and it said that coach Spurrier spent the whole in practice in entire practice blowing his whistle and making them go from the sideline and back to the Huddle because it was that important next even uh Coach Peterson when he was at Boise State who was uh known to have a lot less talent but his team was able to work so well together that there's a historic game where they defeated Oklahoma in a in a uh in a bowl game and they ran so many kind of unorthodox crazy plays but because the team was so tightly aligned together they were able to be successful and as you move forward uh they put the th the Ohio State University and this is a a a real you know ethos we're the we're a family and there's the presence of love and respect and there's class and we'll perform with humility as we enter the field and as you keep going uh you've got West Virginia with Rich Rodriguez um win and score well they're from West Virginia so at least it's spelled correctly I suppose uh but you know not quite as much detail and then lastly uh this is the enemies Playbook here straight from Satan himself uh this was the front page of Nick sabin's uh Playbook to hunt to stalk to intimidate to be relentless Relentless to have a Killer Instinct and to creat create a nightmare and it's fascinating as you look over these different playbooks because they are all so very different so very different and some coaches even um get to know their team first before they even introduce their playbook because there is some instinctive thematic nature that they're wanting to instill as the overall Philosophy for their team nothing can be taken for granted that's why it's in the Playbook other procedures in playbooks include snap counts and audible procedures alignments stance description fronts gaps line splits Personnel groupings but the Playbook is the foundation and for a player to be able to look at a coach signaling or a diagram and know exactly what responsibility in a stadium with 100,000 people screaming on National Television it all goes back to what was in the Playbook it's detailed it's intentional it's uh life or death in terms of the coach's career in terms of the players career making it to the next level it's the if this is the standard in the business world and is if this is the standard in the arena of Athletics it Bears the question that much more is how much more should we have a plan and know how we will respond to the attacks of the enemy how much more should we have a detailed and concise plan for our family and for our children and those who we are called to minister to in the face of the enemy's attacks it's imp imperative for us to know because we talk a lot about and we preach a lot about and we read a lot of books of I want to discern God's call and I don't diminish the importance of that for one moment because that is important in seeking the will of God for my life but no just as assuredly as you are seeking out what God would have you to do and you're taking the next steps by faith in the will of God for your life your enemy our enemy Satan himself has a detailed Playbook specifically laid out for you he has a detailed Playbook specifically laid out for your marriage for your children and every capacity of your life Satan comes to kill he comes to steal and he comes to destroy the Bible calls him a roaring lion that seeks around that hunts around that stalks around looking for those who he may devour and take out another verse yet says he desires to sift as wheat he desires to break you down he desires to tear you apart and the trick of the enemy is often times we think of these attacks as being something immediate but what the enemy does he creates strong delusions in our lives and plants seeds that don't always always rear their head in a moment or in a day or in a week but this incremental digression that begins to flourish in your life and you look around and wonder how you ever got to the state that you were and through a variety of approaches Satan continually attempts to deceive people today and he has a Playbook as detailed as any Hall of Fame coach that I just spoke about and his attempts to deceive untiringly confront Us in every aspect of our life this is why we cannot be aimless or naive or have some kind of careless approach to our spiritual walk and our spiritual man or spiritual woman and oh I'm just going to let things come at me and I'll I'll address it when I face it no no you better have a detailed plan right now in this moment while you have Clarity of mind while you're full of the Holy Ghost while you're with likeminded individuals likeminded Believers in Christ you better get in his word and write out how you're going to despond you must be intentional in every action intentional in every conversation intentional in every decision in order to thwart sat Satan's attack you must run every single thing through this book right here I would evaluate every relationship in your life I would evaluate everything that exits your lips through this I would allow I would I would recommend putting anything you put in your ears through this I'm not talking about a set list of rules or guidelines that for far gone are the days of that I'm talking about us getting into the word of God and placing everything through this book right here because you will be tempted and you must have a Playbook of your own to defeat the enemy's attacks and if you're at the negociation table of life in the moment having a conversation with the Enemy unsure of what you're already going to do please know in that moment you're going to succumb to your flesh if your mind is not already made up up beforehand you will be tempted to quit you will be tempted to succumb to the lust of the flesh you will be tempted to believe that you are not good enough you will be tempted to return to a lifestyle that you've received deliverance from when things get difficult you will be tempted to return back to that thing that I can inebriate my mind on making me in disillusioning me to believe that I'm going to be able to take my next step and Garner some some kind of Peace in that moment cuz sin is only for a season in order to move forward you will be tempted to let your emotions take over and hold a grudge or get my feelings hurt and you will be tempted to curse those who God has commanded you to love unconditionally oh go back to that lust stuff when we're talking about being tempted don't don't talk about that holding uh any grudges or don't don't don't get into the interpersonal relationships of how I'm supposed to address a fellow member or brother and sister in Christ or how I'm supposed to addressed someone out in the community they go get back to that lust stuff and tell those young people how to live don't get to how I conversate and treat others don't don't get into that stuff Temptation goes with the territory and it appears to each one of us individually and it appears appears to each one of us in a variety of different disguises the enemy has a detailed Playbook specifically laid out just for you it prays on our hearts deceitful desires it clouds our judgment to the long-term ramifications that result from poor decisions made in negotiated it causes the father to come sit in the back while somebody else walks his daughter down the aisle because he's made such a foolish mess of the marriage relationship in their life that now there's such conflict that they no longer want to be together it's inevitable it's a part of life that none of us can as avoid and as long as we are living in the flesh tempt will come our way and I ask you tonight to break out of the stereotypical definition and context of temptation as we always kind of think of it to be some kind of lust of the flesh or some type of uh uh forication or something it certainly means that but it's being tempted to defile ourself in all different kind of Capa the capacities of life and the more things change and we live in a society that has changed indeed the more they stay the same this time War phrase well described Satan's effort Through the Ages to destroy God's people you will never outgrow it you will never mature Beyond it but despite the tremendous changes that time has brought and it's important for us as Believers to identify what the tactics of the enemy are it's important for us to to identify when it the enemy is speaking into our lives in all of his centuries wielding demonic influence Satan has never had to change his tactics the same method that was successful and deceiving Eve continues to be effective today Satan struck first at the relationship that God had established with Adam and Eve disobeying God's word severs the cord of Fellowship between God and Humanity if he can create a separation between his word and yourself that is the only thing that he needs and as a consequence of Disobedience there's spiritual death separation from God and then this precedes the literal death of the body Satan has not deviated from his original plan of attack and he has a long range goal in mind when he is performing forming an attack it's not just about you in that particular season and it wasn't just about Jesus while he was in the wilderness but he was trying to this long range plan prevent him from getting to the cross and if he can cast doubt on God's word and make God's plan seem unattractive as he did in the Garden of Eden to Adam and Eve he still employs this method today and though it's an antiqu equated strategy many and we can still fall prey to it if we don't have a love for this word and by a love for this word I'm not talking about uh saying how much you love it I'm talking about actually getting inside of it and getting it embedded in our minds and in our hearts as darkness is the absence of light Satan's nature is the absence of Truth Satan is not simply a liar but he is void of Truth just as darkness is the absence of life we could describe Satan's nature and Essence as the absent of Truth and for this reason the antidote to deception is simple and that's trust in the word of God the love for truth is the defense against Satan's delusions having a own mood mind and creating your battle plan for yourself in this moment while you are of sound body of mind is how to defeat the enemy everything must be filtered through this and it must be decided in advance it might be by means of a h there's wisdom and a multitude of counsel that might be uh a mother or father it might be uh counseling it might be through teaching it might be through reading his word whatever the case may be you must make your decision in advance because if you get in that dialogue with Satan and you're at the negotiation table with him in the moment while he's tempting you and you haven't already made your decision you will not be strong enough in your flesh to deter him in the Book of Luke we read about Jesus being out in the wilderness and sure enough who shows up the Devil Himself he he didn't show up at the Lord's baptism did he oh no we've got paintings about that that's that's the be oh he didn't show up at the the first at the wedding at Canaan John two the the first miracle that's not when Satan reveals himself and begins to have this dialogue with him he shows up when you're in your weakest State Jesus was in the wilderness denying himself the food he would need for strengthen his body and the devil shows up in our weakest moments he shows up when you're stressed he shows up when you're hurt he shows up when someone has said an unkind word to you he shows up when you've been away or you've been isolated from everyone he shows up in the current memories of the past and often times he'll use pieces of all of these different things that have accumulated throughout your work week or throughout your day and then those uh those climaxes of of stress in your life that's when he begins to speak Satan comes when Jesus was in his weaken State Satan visits us when we are in a weaken day when we humans are more easily disoriented when we're physically or emotionally or psychologically we think about how differently you're prone to respond to various pressures when you're weak rather than when you're strong and refreshed his Playbook is to choose these moments of Temptation careful because Temptation offers an answer for a need or a desire it presents something that will satisfy the appetites of the flesh but it's only for a sees and author John bloom in commentary of this verse he highlights three different things that were taking place he said first the devil sought to narrow Jesus Focus specifically on each tempting proposition so that Jesus would view each in a distorted context and therefore experience them as disproportionately compelling what this means and how that relates to us and what this happens to us in these moments of our life is we can associate situations together that have no correlation whatsoever and we can perceive our current infirmities as reason for us in some way or somehow being at disobedient at some point or because the blessings of God are not on my life or because I lack faith in some capacity or this suffering that I'm enduring or this hardship that I'm having to overcome is somehow I'm responsible before it because of my lack of faith or because I did something wrong and these are the lies of the enemy to get you to feel guilt and to get you to feel shame and to make you feel that there is no step forward out of it and all of these ideas can rear them elv and you can view the current situation you're in in a distorted prism where there's shades of Truth and there's hints of truth but it's just this big jumbled mess that's going around in your mind and it distracts you from other capacities in your life and then all of the stress in your life uh begins to build up and then you're no longer present with your family and you're no longer excelling in the workplace and your spiritual manner spiritual woman is suffering because your mind is so heavy laden and if the enemy can just distort and confuse and give a little disillusion here then he can affect all areas of your life which will consequently affect your family's life and consequently affect those that you're supposed to minister to and then you'll be the one bringing others down in your situation and the the the the enemy is just behind the scenes going through his detail plan just for you and second in this uh dialogue each Temptation promises both explicit and implicit Rewards well I have a solution for you Jesus and if you will do XYZ then this is what is going to be rewarded to you as though the devil could somehow give Jesus a reward that's the first lie to begin with if you miraculously create bread though there's other precedent of you dividing and feeding the multitudes but if you can create bread in this moment forget what you've already done where there was so much left over for and there was all those other witnesses that saw it but if you can create bread in this moment it will relieve your starving Agony and it would also to me validate your claim of divinity if you'll jump it demonstrates the truth of this audacious promise in the sight of all of those Witnesses down there you'll glorify both the trustworthiness of God's word and the trustworthiness of your claim I of God's son I we I know what you've said and I know what you proclaimed but if you'll if you'll do this then it'll really prove to me and and everybody else what your real mission is and since it's in my power if you'll bow to me I'll make sure that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess your what an absolute bunch of me filter what I'm about to say through this but think about the dialogue it's absolutely incomprehensible and we can read this in the context up Genesis and the and the context of the synoptic gospels yet we will do the same thing and when I say we I'm talking about me we'll say oh God I don't know if it's probably the end of this situation I don't know how you're going to do it even though if I just think about the testimonies of God's people and the the Miracles that I've seen in the past I I'll put all the supernatural that he's done in the past and I'll put all of the healings that he's done in the past and I'll I'll remove all the memories of how he's provided time and time again but in this moment if you're God you'll really show me and I'll make these implicit threats to him and these these uh if you'll do this and then I'll do that each tempting propos proposition makes implicit threats well if you're unwilling to acly create bread the devil's implying doesn't that in doesn't that mean you're not capable of doing so wouldn't that mean that you know you call yourself at the very least a prophet you certainly wouldn't be no Moses much less a prophet much less the Son of God Jesus You're just another self deluded Messiah that's found himself out here wandering in the wilderness your own people who you came to save reject you the your own people are are going to crucify you look at what your disciples are going to do Jesus you're just some other deluded Messiah out here in the desert but if you'll do this that would really show me if you're unable to demonstrate the truth of these promises if you're not able to jump and display your Supernatural power at the snap of my fingers do doesn't that mean you're not the Son of God you're just like every other hypocritical Rabbi that you ra against that you teach against and you won't risk your life to prove God's word is true and we'll do the same thing where the enemy will tell us you're you're going to continue to be faithful even though you're receive that doctor's report you're gonna continue to serve God even though this situation has unfolded in your life and you're still going to give God praise even though this person whom you trusted and looked up to hurt your feelings and some capacity and damage was done and you're you're still going to believe in God and trust in God oh you're you're you're still going to teach you're still going to preach and should I remind everybody what you're guilty of yeah forgiveness and grace and mercy that's a a novel concept and that's that's pretty for us to talk about but you know you could only minister to this far because if you get if you get too too far I'm going to pull you back and keep you reminded of some of those things that you that you did in your in in your life all the time enemy speaking into your mind creating confusion and delusion causing a whole host of other issues in your life trying to get you out of God's will he was seeking to do with Jesus what he did with Adam and even as he tries to do with each one of us he tries to disorient our perception of reality if he could distort jesus' perception of reality and deceive Jesus into believing a false story into believing a false reality into believing a false narrative then he poses to Jesus the propositions that put a distorted Twist on the truth and the devil wo plenty of Truth in his presentation but the challenge was prefaced if thou be the Son of God if if you're a True Believer then this wouldn't happen if you were truly believing what uh God had for your life if if you were if you truly had Faith then this wouldn't happen and these are the lies the enemy Whispers In Your Ear musicians and singers he can stir up that ego that flesh of yours and get you to succumb to this negotiation succumb to this temptation in the wilderness if he could get Jesus to do this then he knew he could get to keep him from his mission on the cross one way to describe Jesus response was he used the armor of God against the schemes of the devil often times we fight ourself with the desire in these situations when uh I know not every attack is of the enemy I I you you know me and you've heard me uh preach too many times about the Practical realities of life but I have to be careful at the same time the enemy does attack and sometimes we can be guilty of believing that in order to defeat the enemy's attack we've got to have some display of fire and and smoke and God's loud booming voice and can he do those things and work in that way absolutely we he can but we really need to look at the dialogue Jesus had and look at his response to the enemy he said answered him saying it is written that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God any Temptation anything that you're trying to bring at me it's already been written what my response is going to be I've I already know what my where my faith lies I already know where my hope lies it wasn't some display of the the miraculous with fire and wind and uh an earthquake but it was Jesus saying his word is written and it's forever established in heaven you've got to remember remember who you are you've got to remember the story that you are in and you must reject the lies of Satan you must not believe the false narrative about yourself you must not believe the false reality about yourself you are called you are chosen your ministry does matter and you must reject all of the lies that the enemy tries to place before you it's impossible for Satan to do good he's so vile that he AO avoids appearing as himself but he puts on a veil and he disguises himself in so many capacities and sometimes he'll use other people to do his bidding and we've got to be careful not to allow him to work on us in that manner as well creating confusion in other lives as to Eve he appeared as a serpent and Paul he warned that he appears as a messenger of Hope and Light by his very nature it's impossible for him to be truthful so if there's talk of doubt in what you are facing currently right now be assured that it is not of God if you're talk thinking about any kind of doubt if there's any kind of uncertainty if there's any kind of dread or weariness about the situation that you're facing please know that it is not from Heaven that's not God speaking to you that's the enemy trying to pray on the disillusion that he has placed in many of our Lives if there's ideas of defeat those weren't plotted by God they were plotted by the enemy oh I I hope this isn't the end that's delusion that's deception that's Distortion those are not words that should exit the Victorious believer's mouth those are not words that should be uttered to one another oh I don't know if we're going to make it or I don't know if we're ever going to do this or I don't know if it's going to turn out okay get away from me I don't want to be influenced by your negativity and your distorted realm of reality I I'm not talking about being absent minded and not not talk and and being truthful about the things that are placed in our life absolutely not stand with me I'm talking about we need to be careful what we do and what we say and where we go and how we interact with each other am I speaking the language of the enemy am I listening to the voice of the enemy the word tells me that no weapon formed against me shall prosper blessed is my health my Ministry is important my Ministry does matter I'm going to get my healing I am called I'm going to continue to declare Miracles I am not broken I am made whole through his I made whole through you Jesus I can conquer this debt my marriage will be strong I'm going to confess Victory my words my thoughts my actions are going to be through this prism right here and I'm going to praise him in the shadow of whatever giant comes onto the battlefield and you can't make that decision when the Giant Steps on the battlefield because you're going to be disillusioned if you don't make that decision right now the Bible says how you going to cross the Jordan in the good season if you can't in the good season in the Bad season if you can't do it in the good season what that means is how you going to praise God when everything's going bad if you can't come into his house when everything seems normal and give him praise and if you praise Him it'll drown out what the enemy is saying hallu during times of Temptation we may become disillusion and subject to deception these are the times we got to be very cautious not to entertain voices that shouldn't have a seat at our table we can be certain that we can allow voices that will seow seeds of Discord and seeds of Doubt voices that pit you against family members or pitched you against your brother or your sister pit you against those spiritual leaders in your life he'll use the tactics of hurt and Brokenness and anger and jealousy and lust and hunger and loneliness and lack of accountability to cause your vision to be cloudy Jesus refused to allow that to happen you've got to put a plan in place oh yes I believe in giving God praise and worship I believe in running around this church I believe in leaping I believe in clapping I believe in all of those those shows of praise and and and I'm absolutely for it but we also got to put pin to paper and have some conversations with each other and get a detailed plan together of hey this is how my this is what my family is going to do this is how we're going to do this this is how we're going to respond when this happens I might have to to go to counseling I might have to go to therapy there's no Stigma centered around that I rebuke the devil for that when I hear of somebody doing that it means they're getting help and they're putting a plan together you got to put a plan together for your life so you can take steps forward in faith nobody knows only you know the things that you face only you know the things that the enemy will appear to us with a specific plan in so many different capacities and we got to be careful not to judge somebody else's uh hardships based on the season that I'm going through we ought to just all together say thank God that we made it here tonight together and I believe I believe that he inhabits the praise of his people and that we serve a God so powerful that there's a Playbook put together that conquers the enemy and it's his word it might not be an earthquake it might not be and fire and smoke but I got trust in his word I wonder if
