God bless you and you may be seated and we'd like to give honor to the Lord Jesus Christ this great church he is our leader the head of this great church of which we are all members and if the lighting people will light the audience I like to look folks in the eye and see who I'm preaching to so you can Shine the Light on them so I can see who's nervous and who's squirming I'd like to give honor to this great church the greatest church that I have ever been in uh in my opinion I'd like to give honor to this great staff of pastors the elders and the technical staff the ushers and the many folks that make this church what it is there's no way I could adequately express how much I appreciate each one of you and right behind the Lord Jesus Christ I want to give honor to the lady of my life who has been my wife for 67 years and uh 66 of those have been right here in this church and you have uh worked with sister mul and myself through all these years and what a joy it has been oh what a joy um I've got to tell you a little story that was on my mind and please do not misunderstand this little story is true and it's not meant to degrade or defame or to cut anybody down but many years ago we had a preacher preach for us whose name was Allan augs and he was one of the greatest preachers in the apostolic movement and uh he was handicapped somewhat he had had a stroke and it affected his walking it affected his talking and his movement and uh when he talked you could tell he had had the stroke and he had written another book he had written many books and we were delighted to have him preach for us and we had him a motel waiting on him and he told this that night before he preached and he said I had driven all day and he said I pulled into the motel and said uh told them my name and I had a room waiting on me sure enough they did and the lady lady saw me trying to fill out the papers and said my hand was shaking so bad that she felt sorry for me and said U she said sir let me help you and and said she took hold of my hand and helped me write my name and helped me write everything and and she said by the way what do you do he said I'm a right if I sound like an old man up here and my voice breaks and I might forget some things sometimes and I sound pretty old it's because I'm an old man and you bear with me the message I have on my heart today uh our pastors have preached all over it I've had this title and this thought for many weeks way before Easter and uh every time one of our pastors preach I might as well just hand them my notes because they just preached all over it Pastor did such a great job last week I heard it again this morning and oh what a message we heard by this great man of God who talked about when fear and joy uh meet and it was so great Anthony last week did such a great job today I'm calling your attention to my thought is after Easter then what after Easter then what an unlikely order from an angel I might read a lot of scripture using Johnny James words if I Don't Preach too good at least you'll get to hear a lot of the word Mark 16 starting at verse one and when the Sabbath was passed Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and salom had brought sweet spices that they might come and anoint him and very early in the morning the first day of the week they came unto the supper at the rising of the Sun and they said among themselves who shall roll away the Stone from the door of the SRE if you heard the TV program this morning you heard Pastor uh elaborate on this and when they looked they saw the stone was rolled away for it was very great and entering into the Seiler they saw a young man sitting on the right side clothed in a long white garment and they were a frightened and he said un them be not AF frightened you seek Jesus of Nazareth which was crucified he's risen he's not here behold the place where they laid him but go your way tell his disciples and Peter I want you to remember these words in verse seven go your way tell his disciples and Peter why did the angel say tell his disciples and and Peter I'm going to tell you why before I'm finished but he goeth before you into Galilee there shall you see him as he said unto you and they went out quickly and fled from the supper for they trembled and were amazed neither said they anything to any man for they were afraid and when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene out of whom he had cast Seven Devils now there's nothing been written more in the Bible than the prophecy concerning the death burial and resurrection of Jesus his chosen disciples had heard him as he said destroy this Temple and in three days I'll raise it up this spake he of the Temple of his body but they thought he was talking about this natural building destroy this Temple and in three days I'll raise it up again they had heard him time and again talk about dying being put in a tomb and raised again nothing has been spoken more often throughout the Old Testament and New than the resurrection of Jesus pray tell why after all of his followers had heard him so many times and I've read this story many times and I read it again and again and again the last couple of weeks why were they coming to the tomb to embomb a dead man instead of being there on the third on the third day and view the resurrection not a one of his followers not a one of his disciples not a one of those he had healed not a one of those he had spoken were there they came early these ladies and they viewed a when one who's going to roll the stone away they should have been expecting an empty tomb but instead they were expecting a dead corpse right but when they got there the question was who's going to roll away the stone well the same one that made that stone is the one that's going to roll it away and if he said said destroy this Temple and in 3 days I'll raise it up I need to be looking for a risen savior instead of a dead man now in our present time the news media will fight over who gets to break a story who gets to tell it first CNN wants to get it before fox fox wants to get it before CNN CNN and fox wants to get it before ABC or NBC and this is a great and spectacular accomplishment and they later brag about we broke the story we found it out first because we're more efficient because we're the best in the business we broke the story well Jesus is going to break the story to somebody that everybody's going to be expecting to hear hear it guess who he told the first one he did not get the most righteous men in town he didn't get the man that everybody respected most he first came to a woman out of whom he had cast Seven Devils and said Mary Magdalene I want you to be the first I want you to tell it I want you to be the first to see me after I raised from the dead hallah hallelujah oh my you know we like to give honor to this one and that one rightfully so but if the Lord's going to break something great to us is he going to give us a bishop who's been preaching 75 years is he going to give it to someone that's been known as a a pray evangelist or a Divine healer no he'll come among our m and he'll find somebody out of whom he's cast Seven Devils he's delivered from drugs he's saved them from a life of sin and he don't deserve to be testified look what kind of life he lives oh yes you're not Jesus and Jesus is coming to the one to tell the first the one of whom he's done the most go your way tell his disciples and and and Peter and he went and told them that had been with him as they mourned and wept and they when they had heard that he was alive and had been seen of her shouted and rejoice Glory he's risen no that's not what it said it said when they heard what she said they believe not you bunch of doubting unbelievers after that he had appeared in another form unto two of them that walked and went into the country yeah there was two men walking from Jerusalem down to emus and as they were on their road to emus there was a stranger walked right in beside them and they were just so downcast and depressed talking about what had happened Jesus been we've lost our leader we've lost our Lord we thought the Messiah had come we were sure that this was going to be the man that has been prophesied about but he's gone and this stranger stepped in said why are you fellas so downcast what are y'all talking about they said haven't you heard are you a stranger in this town Jesus our leader the one we thought was the Messiah he's been killed he's been laid in a tomb and this man walking along beside them begins to preach to him and he preached from Moses Abraham he goes back and it tells all the scriptures that prophesies about Jesus coming about Jesus being crucified about Jesus raising from the dead and and and they didn't even know it and by and by they said are you a stranger in this country he said are you fools he used that word are you are you a bunch of fool do you not do you not know who I am don't you know me what it got is getting dark and they turned in and and and they Jesus act like he's going to go on and he said they said come on go with us and so he went with them and they sat down to eat and when he started to eat he broke the bread and started give him thanks and they looked at one another L and who is that we walking with that's him and we didn't even know it oh let me say to you there's so many things about him we don't even know it he delivers us of things we don't even know about and yet he's done it let me go on and they went and told it to his the residue oh when these two fedal that was on their way to EMAs they came back and they told it to the residue guess who we've been walking with guess who we seen guess who it is and they shouted and rejoice you found no they believe them not they didn't believe them now let's try to understand why the angel said go tell his disciples and Peter that he's risen and he's going to meet you in Galilee in Luke 2231 through 34 and the Lord said Simon Simon behold Satan had desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat but I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not and when thou are convert con when when you're what he's a disciple and he said when you're converted strengthen the brother well it sound like Peter might have been a little insulted and he said unto him Lord I'm ready to go with thee both into prison and to death and he said I tell thee Peter the shall not Crow this day before Thou shalt Thrice deny that thou know me Mark 14: 27-32 and Jesus said to them all ye shall be offended because of me this night for it is written I will Smite the shepherd and the Sheep will be scattered now remember this is before the Resurrection he says but after I am after I am risen I will go before you into Galilee now this was before the crucifixion but Peter said unto him although all be offended yet will not I and Jesus said unto him verily I say unto thee this day even this night before the Crow twice Thrice Thou shalt deny me Thrice but he spake the more be imminently now Peter when Jesus said that Peter's temper rose up a little bit he spoke more be imminently what's Peter going to say after I'm I go Peter said to him although it shall be offend others will be offended yet will not I and Jesus said to him verily I said unto thee this day even this night before the Crow twice Thou shalt deny me Thrice but he spake them more vinant if I should die with thee I will not deny thee and any wise likewise also said they all now Jesus has been arrested they're spitting on him salvas draining down his face they're smacking on the side of the head said prophesy to us who Cru who's smitten you and after a while came into the him by the stood and said unto Peter surely Thou Art one of them that speech betray thee now he just stood there as Judas came in and kissed him on the cheek and Jesus said betray us thou the son of man with a kiss what you do do quickly get it over with go ahead and Judas kissed him and in comes the soldiers to take him and Peter had already made his brags so Peter whoops out a sword and he takes a swipe at the servant of the high priest meaning to cut off his head and he cut off his ear yeah though the whole world didn't know you I want I'll go to jail I'll die with you and he cut the man's ear off and it falls down the man starts bleeding and Jesus reached out and picked up the ear and stuck it back on his head it stopped bleeding there was no scar this should have been enough to prove to all the rest of them that this was the Christ the Messiah the King of Kings but now remember Peter is the one that did that now then after a while came he unto them that that stood by and said to Peter surely thou also art one of them thy speech betrayeth thee now the man that said over and over again though the whole world denies you I won't I I'll go to jail with you I'll die with you they said you're one of his men aren't you yes then began he to curse and to swear a disciple his leader one of the elders in the church he began to curse bleep bleep exped deleted and to swear saying I know not the man and immediately the Barnyard preacher jumped up on the fence post and crowed and Peter said man I know not what thou sayest and immediately when he spake the crew and the Lord turned and looked upon Peter and Peter remembered the word of the Lord how he had said unto him before the Crow Thou shalt deny me Thrice and Peter went out and wept bitterly tell his disciples and Peter I believe the meaning of this at this time Peter realized what he had done that's my Lord that's the one I said I would die for and I've just cursed I've just denied him the last thing that our Lord heard before he was crucified from his disciples the last thing he heard from any of his followers the Bible said they all forsook him the last thing Jesus heard as they were spitting on his face smacking up beside the head planting of thorns to put on his head the last thing Jesus her was his chief Apostle cursing I don't even know him I don't know I don't know the man I know by this time the word had filtered out that Judas had gone and hanged himself and Peter was thinking I know what I need to do I need to find that tree that Judas found and I need to use the same rope I need to do the same thing I've denied my Lord I've cursed and now I've seen them taking him away with spittle on his face and scars on his brow getting ready to put a crown of thorns and I cursed and Deni him I know what I'll do I'll go and get me a rope and I'll do the same thing that Judas did but about that time the Angel's word said go and tell his disciples and Peter Peter don't think he's the disciple anymore people Peter's already given up on himself he's done so bad he's convinced that he's no longer a disciple H the best thing I can do is do like Judas did but here some Mary Magdalene comes and so wait a minute I I've got a word from an angel I've got an unlikely word from an angel the angel said tell his disciples and Peter he especially said you you're still his disciple After all you've done you're still his disciple I want to tell you something you may think you've done so bad that God won't accept you you may think that you've done so bad that your family won't accept you you may think think that you're a husband the angel said tell the Saints and tell that that thinks he's not a saint come on you're still my child and I still love [Applause] you now this is taking place and the men that held Jesus moed him smot him and when they blindfolded him they struck him on the face and asked him saying prophesy who is it that smoke thee and many other things blasphemously spake they against him now as the Blasphemous things were being done Jesus is remembering that all his disciples had forsaken him and Peter who had be imminently declared though the whole world deny you I will not Peter who had walked on the water at Jesus bidding Peter who had helped gather the 12 Miracle baskets of bread Peter who had feish all night without catching anything and at the bidding of Jesus he called a Miracle net full of fish had broke their Nets and and it was about to sink their boat and they had to holler for other fishermen other boat to come and help them gather some of the fish Jesus Peter remembers you got to notice it their taxes were due Jesus see I got to notice that our taxes are due and you know the penalty if we don't pay our taxes Judas is not available with any money what are we going to do Jesus oh Jesus said Peter don't don't don't don't worry about it said go to the Sea and cast a hook and the first fish you catch look in his mouth this same man he went to the Sea and cast a hook and the first fish he caught he looked at his mouth and there was just enough money to pay his and the Lord's taxes this is the Peter I'm talking about this is the disciple I'm talking about now the last thing Jesus is to hear as he's being led away in his grief and pain and bleed and spittle the last thing Jesus hears from the man that he grabbed by the hand when he was seeking to walking on the water the same man that cut a man's ear off and I stuck it back on to keep him from going to jail the same man that I put the miracle money in his mouth to keep him from going to jail for tax evasion the same man is back there cursing and saying I don't even know him tell the disciples and tell Peter to meet me we're going I'm going to meet you in Galilee but that's what I told you when I was with you I was going to after I've risen I'll be meet you in in Galilee that's what he said to him was yet alive his chief Apostle Peter he hears him cursing and saying I do not know the man but now the news has spread that Judas had hung himself and the leban supposed that to his disciples somewhere they were cowering together they're now being summoned to meet the Risen Savior oh yes but now probably Peter does not consider himself a disciple but the angel specifically called him by name and said tell Peter he she General the the angel told Mary she he he minimized or or just said disciples but he said and tell Peter specifically to come after he appeared into the 11 as they said at meat now I'm reading now verse 14 after he appeared unto the 11 as they said at meat the and ided them with their unbelief and Hardness of Heart because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen now that word uprade means to criticize severely to reproach severely to find fault with to skold be imminently now the Bible said when Jesus got the with him at the table he uped them so what is Jesus going to say now he's ided them is he going to disfellowship and disown the whole crowd of quitters is he going to strike them dumb as he did Zacharias and the Father John the Baptist when Gabriel told him that he was though him and his wife was old and didn't have any children they were going to have a child and going to name him John and Zachariah said now I'm old and my wife is old how am I going to know that's the truth he said you'll know it because you'll not speak another word for n months can you imagine a preacher being able to speak unable to speak for nine months and he struck him dumb until the baby was born what's Jesus going to do to these 11 men they all forsook him the Bible said not only Peter did deny him but they forsook him they ran they were gone when he needed them most they were not there he needed somebody to say I know the man he's a good man I know him just just say but they Peter said I don't even know him and I I cut into cursing to prove it so what's Jesus going to say to them now that he's castigated now that he is excoriated after he's told them they had done wrong what's he going to say to them now then I want you bunch of quitters to know I don't have to depend on you I created man from the dust of the earth and I can get me somebody more faithful than you I'm fixing to dismiss the last one of you that's what I'm going to do no that's not what he said said here's what he said to them after he scolded them for what they had done he's going to give them a job of picking up papers he's going to give them a job of uh doing this or that very meaning meaningless but no here's what he said the very next thing verse 15 and he said unto them go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to Every Creature he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved and he that believeth not shall be damned but go your way and tell the disciples and Peter tell him I need him here because I'm fixing to give you a commission to go into all the world and preach the gospel to Every Creature he that believeth that is baptized shall be saved he that believeth not shall be damned and in my name shall they cast out devils and they shall speak with new tongues they shall take up serpents and if they drink any deadly thing you shall not hurt them I've got news for you you haven't done too bad for God to use you you have you haven't gone too far you haven't gone too far you may have been untrue to your family you may have been untrue to your wife or husband you may have been true true to you to your your boss on your job you may not be what you think you should be but Jesus sees beyond your PA and he sees your need let me rush through tell his disciples and and Peter that great Fireball Prophet had a wicked king and queen Ahab and Jezebel and they going into a bail worship and Elijah he said call all your prophets together 450 meet me at such and such place build an altar and put your sacrifice on it I going to see if your God will answer a fire and sure enough they built an altar and put their sacrifice on and they cried and screamed and hollered and begged and pleaded cut themselves to blood run down and he'd say cry a little louder he may be asleep oh maybe he's gone on a vacation maybe he'll be back tomorrow and he talk you talk about talking trash Eli uh Elijah was taunting them and finally they got so so frustrated they jumped up the Altar and stomped it and broke it down and Elijah said step aside they were there because first of all they were in a famine and because of a terrible drought three and a/2 years and Elijah said let's rebuild the altar now then get me some water no get some more that's not now get some more that's not guess he put 12 barrels I don't where they got 12 barrels of water in a drought but he soaked the the Altra with water ran in a trench around and then he just stepped out and said dear God ask you to offer this sacrifice accept it from me just a verse and the fire came down from heaven and consumed the offering and just licked up the 12 barrels of water the dust was gone and the people began to Rejoice he said if God be God let him be God if ba be God let him be God and then he had all these prophets slain 450 that Wicked King that night told his wife Jezebel said you know what happened today that Prophet slew all of our prophets baale and she said you go tell him that tomorrow this time he's going to be like one of those prophets I'm after him this Fireball Dynamic Prophet headed for the Wilderness he he had the Bible said he went a day in the wilderness and he laid down beside the the brook chair and it dried up and and he woke up and he was thirsty and there was a cruise of Water by his head and a cake and he drank and at and he went in the strength of that and then he found him an empty cave and he laid down and he this Mighty powerful Dynamic Fireball Prophet said oh God please let me die I don't want to fall into the hands of that woman now we're talking about a great man he had done great things and now he's praying to die can you imagine someone getting so far from a God that sent fire down and now he's praying to die he's alone in that cave and suddenly the Lord said to him oh Elijah what doest thou here what are you doing here man don't you remember the fire don't you remember what are you doing here get up I've got [Applause] more oh you've been running from God you've been running from Fear you've been running what are you doing here you've still got a God on the throne God said go up here on the mountain I want to show you something and he goes up here on the mountain and he begins to look and and suddenly there is a great earthquake and and the rocks brok and and the Earth Shook and and and and then God wasn't in it and then there was a a great wind a great cyclone great tornado it just swept but God wasn't in it and then the Bible said there was a small still voice let me tell you something you may have endured this the earthquake of your life you may have endured the hurricane of your life you may have endured but let me tell you there's a small still voicey still Whispering for you there's a little voicey to saying to you and Peter not just the Saints not just the deacons not just the elders not just the Pastoral sta but you you you you and you that everybody thinks there's no hope for there's a God that's calling you by [Applause] name God told Jonah to go to ninev and preach to that great City and he went down to japa and got him a ticket to a on a boat the Bible said he paid the fa thereof and he went down the side of the boat God s a great storm and they threw stuff overboard they had they lightened the load they unburden probably put threw over thousands and thousands of dollars worth of merchandise try to make the ship more likely to survive this terrible storm and finally they went down and found Jonah and said who are you man said what's said who what what's your nation I say who are he said my name is Jonah and I'm a Hebrew and I'm the problem and said you're not going to get out of this until you throw me overboard and they they rode the harder but they realized that they couldn't make the boat and so they threw him over great face swallowed him and now then the Bible said and Jonah prayed un the Lord his God out of the fish's belly and said I cried by reason of my Affliction unto the Lord and he heard me out of the belly of Hell cried I and thou heest my voice God's through with you bud he said I was in the belly of hell I can find me somebody faithful to go to Nineveh I don't need you I can find somebody better than you put out an advertisement we got a new evangelist coming to Nineveh going to have a Citywide Revival his name isn't Billy Graham his name isn't Billy Mc he hasn't been to the Seminary well where's he from oh he's from hell that's the Evangelist we need this preacher is coming he's from Hell he's from H he he's not from Toledo he's not from some find this city he's been in hell no God said the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time God said I'm not through with you yet I'm not you may think you're through with me but I'm not through with you you've been to Hell and back and I've delivered you and there's still some good in you and you can still be an effective preacher after your denial after your misbehavior after refusing to go do you realize what you cost you almost cost that ship you almost cost those men their life you cause them to lose thousands and thousands of dollars in merchandise do you realize what a low down scoundrel you are oh you're just what I'm looking for the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time said go to Nineveh oh there's another word the book said 23d Psalm the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want the old sh Shepherd dog is on your Trail today you may think you've escaped you may think you've been to Hell and back will just in case you have been to Hell the book has that cover too David said if I take the wings of the morning and fly to the depths of the sea Thou Art there and if I make my bed in hell Thou Art there it don't matter where you're from it no matter how bad your reputation is he's got a job for you to do Hallelujah and Jonah went a Day's Journey Into that City and that great City he preached he preached did he ever preach and Jonah arose and went unto Nineveh according to the word of the Lord now Nineveh was an exceeding great City in three days journey and God saw their works and they turned their from their evil ways and God repented of the evil that he had said that he would do unto them and he did it not now I steal this from my son what a preacher he became not only did he cause Nineveh to repent he was such a good preacher God repented God repented of the evil that he said let me tell you something you may have been to Hell and back but God's got his hand on you and you can be a greater person than you have ever been if you're a backsliding preacher God wants to bring out the best in you no matter who or what God has got a job for you to do I hope I'm not going too long but I've been nursing this in my heart let me give you a couple of more illustrations the woman at the well Jesus said give me the drink why you ask Jews as Samaritans have no dealings Jesus woman if you knew who you was talking to and if you knew the gift of God You' ask him he' give you living living oh give me that water I want it said you don't have anything to draw with Jesus said go Call Your Husband oh he hit a tender nerve why she was there at midday was to avoid the crowd she needed no questioning because he asked her the question all questions she didn't want to go call your husband she said I don't have a husband he said no you don't but the you've had five you've had five and the one you're living with is not strong that's enough Case Closed you're no good you're done for nobody that's why you're here today because you don't want to be seen by the other women who come in the evening time no that's not what he said said go call your husband and she left her water pot and she said come and a man that told me everything that I Lady you've had five husbands you had a miserable life oh you've either had five divorces or you've had five livings and what a horrible but let me tell you lady this man has come for you you haven't done too bad for him there's water in the well for you Denny livon wrote that great song Oh there's water in the well for you and I'm hastening he was coming to town and the word got out that he was coming and the crowd was so large there was a lad down cheating no good dishonest ill thought of tax collector and he was short of a statue he knew how to get his way he always had a had a remedy so he got there early and found him a sycamore tree where he could climb up above everybody else he had found a way to climb up against anybody he found a way so he was perched in that tree and here came Jesus and what a crowd was with him oh if I could just touch the him of His Garment oh if I oh I'd love to oh I'd love to have a talk with him oh Jesus I heard Jesus my father I got a son I want you g he paid no attention to anybody but when he got to that sycal tree where that loow down cheating tax collector zakus was perched up there he got to that tree he wouldn't have been he said zus called him by name called him by name I've got several beautiful uh Awards and uh papers of recognition by uh several politician one is John Duncan late John duck and and we were standing on the steps of the capital he was shaking my hand and and he said to my good friend Billy magon he spelled my name wrong but I was honored I can tell him what my but he really didn't know me but oh I F I've got that among my papers I was shaking hands with a with a a great Congressman uh to my good friend my good friend tax collector dumb cheating low down scoundrel this is Congressman John Duncan it's my privilege to shake hands with the Sher copper son from Southeast Missour picked 200 lb of cotton when he was seven years old Jesus said zakus and they said what does it mean he's going to the house of his sin he said I'm going to your house today cuz today you have found s salvation I don't care what you've done in the past I don't care how bad you've been you're not too bad for Jesus quickly we found a oh now we found a good church we found a good church now Paul found in 1 Corinthians 1 1 and two Paul call to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God unto the Church of God which is at Corinth to them that now listen to this to them that are Sanctified in Christ Jesus called to be Saints all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord both theirs and ours looks like Paul has found the kind of church we're looking for folks to them that are Sanctified in Christ Jesus called to be Saints Sanctified Saints that's the kind of church I want to fastor a church full of Sanctified Saints well let's read a little bit more about them 1 Corinthians 1:7 so that you come behind and know gifts waiting for the coming of Jesus Christ gifts of the Spirit are working that's what we're looking
