Jesus Christ The Only Name of under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved uh Pastor Whitley's given you a uh a little report on sister Kathy and brother Mike she is improving she was she had to be taken back to the hospital with pneumonia infection in her body but uh yesterday when we visited them they said that the pneumonia was cleared up and she was a getting better and they're hoping to move her to a rehab uh facility very soon but anyway we want to continue to pray for sister Kathy and brother Mike and uh also remember brother Jack ruford they need our prayers and all those that are ailing we want to remember them in prayer November the 13th 1968 the good old days ah ah the good old days I wrote this in 1968 November the 13th Ecclesiastes 7 and10 say not that what is the cause that the former days were better than these for thou Dost not inquire wisely concerning this over in the flat farmlands of Southeast Missouri where I was raised it was a status symbol to plant the straightest row of cotton in the community of course I always believ the man who could plant the straightest row was my father he had a method that always worked he would have one of the boys to stand at the far end of the field holding a long pole with a white flag on it and he would set his eyes on that white flag and never stop until he reached the other end leaving behind a perfectly straight roll I also remember watching other farmers who in the middle of the field would get worried or curious would stop and look back see how good they were doing you could always see exactly where they stopped they would leave a crook in the road so it is in our life each time we stop and look back it leaves a bobble the biggest waste of time is time spent talking about how much better the good old days were Philippians 3:13 and 14 Paul says Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended but this one thing I do forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before I press toward the mark no matter how good you did in the past you could do better in the future and no matter how bad you did in the past you could do worse in the future let us forget the glories the gifts The Faults the failures that was in our past and set our eyes on the mark and never ever look back I've seen married people get to looking back on the good old single days and L their let their marriage disintegrate to ashes only to see though sometimes too late that their happy home was their most valuable asset sometimes too late sometimes a husband or wife cannot forgive or forget the past mistakes akes of their marriage partner and their lives become a living hell friends stop trying to live in the graveyard of yesterday you can live in Green Pastures of the present and look forward to a golden future the church has its share of backward Lookers those who continually reminisce over the brush Arbor days and the days long ago when God Spirit moved in our midst the Bible declares Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and forever if anyone has changed it's been us not God a runner cannot win a race looking back over his shoulders and we cannot win for Christ if we like Lot's wife continue to look back on the good old days of Sodom Genesis 19:17 says Escape for thy life look not behind thee escape to the mountain lest thou be consumed life is too short to spend it in the valley of memories today I shall escape the shackles of yesterday and climbed the mountain of expectations firmly planted my flag on its Summit and proclaimed to all the world today is the day of my salvation I wrote that in 1968 and I'm still preaching it today I'm Not Looking Back I'm looking forward I doy Rambo wrote wrote the song lights of home is that the lights of home I see the longer I live the closer I get to the Finish Line oh hallelujah it's no time to let up and look back it's time to go forward and claim every blessing of God oh Hallelujah well let's get into the message our lesson tonight is a good one it's a great one it's on our series two worshiping our Sovereign God and uh this is lesson 2.3 the triumphal entry and I tell you what I'm going to skip the focus verses because it's in our lesson text we start at Matthew chapter 21 and start at verse one and when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem and were come to Beth Page unto the Mount of Olives then sent Jesus two of his disciples now this is less than a month uh before he's going to be crucified it's in the last uh just a just a few days but I think the uh the lesson uh comment uh uh less than than than a uh so many days it was a very short time before he was going to be crucified and now then he tells his disciples two of his disciples saying go into the village over against you and straightway you shall find an ass tied and a colat with her loose them and bring them to me and let me pause and add my word to that of Pastor Will We are so glad to have brother Gardner with us he's got some grandchildren here and and he's got some folks that he loves very dearly and I want you to know this church loves him too and we want to remember Sister Gardner because she's a experiencing a AE I think surgery and we want to be be be praying for her but we love these folks so dearly all right tell ye the daughters of Sion behold thy King cometh unto thee Meek and sitting upon an ass and a coat the fo of an ass now you notice this did not say a king is coming it said thy King is coming it's not just a king that's coming but it is thy King is Coming things are culminating into the a Finish Line of the Ministry the Earthly Ministry of Jesus Hebrews speaks of the days of his flesh the days of his flesh uh that without controversy great is the mystery of godliness God was manifest In the Flesh justified in the spirit seen of angels believed on the world received up in glory that was Jesus that was God becoming a man and now then his Earthly Ministry is coming to a close he's very just a few days he's going to be mistreated horribly he's going to be beaten he's going to be crowned with thorns uh they're going to Smite him on the face and say prophesy to us who smoked you they're going to get one of herod's old dirty robes that they' cast off and put it on him and and mock him and say hey Jesus King of the Jews and all manner of humiliating actions he's going to endure but at this point this none of this has happened and it tells two of his disciples to go to a certain place and said you're going to find a donkey and and her coat they're going to be tied and and he said want you to go and get them for me and if any man say ought unto you you shall say the Lord hath need of them and straightway he will send them I get a thought out of that you've heard me say this before that God Jesus manifested the flesh often put himself in the position of a parent need that you and I could become part of the action be part of the miracle he didn't have to call for that little boy's uh lunch basket uh of five barley Loaves and two little fish but he allowed that little boy to furnish the starting of a a banquet that fed some 15,000 people 5,000 men besides women and children the Bible said but he puts himself in the position of a parent need that you and I can become part of that m IR there's so many things that God does that we don't realize that that that God is doing and we sometime pass it off as a a coincidental or what have you well the Bible said all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet saying tell ye the daughter of Z Behold thy King cometh unto thee Meek and sitting upon an ass and a coat the fo of an ass and his disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them now if he needed a donkey he made the first one he could say let there be a donkey and there'd be a donkey but he didn't do that he put himself in the position of apparent need and he said if anybody asks you why you're untying the donkey here tell them the master hath need of him now it's all speculation imagination did he know the owner of the that donkey uh had he seen that donkey tied out there before was this something that somebody did consistently every day that he just simply knew it was going to be there well whatever the case was there was a a donkey tied and and uh the colat was with him and Jesus said if anybody ask you you just tell them the master hath need of him there's so many things that God does in our life as I said that he allows us to be be helpers he tells us that that something's going to there's things I've been thinking this week of some things that the Lord has done in my life that God allowed others to be a part of sometimes the things were uh pretty rough and and God delivered out of that and I got to thinking this week and I called Brother Gary my TW my younger brother and younger don't mean he's young but he's younger than me and he's in his 80s also but when he was 12 years old back 1952 how 6 some OD years ago 70 years ago whatever my father there was a a converted Baptist preacher was a he was a youth pastor of a Baptist Church in pale Georgia and he came to our Tent Revival and U he got to inquiring and we baptized him in Jesus name he had a brother that was killed in uh the U Korean War he was the beneficiary of his will and he uh we had we were traveling we went to Pontiac Michigan he made a down payment on a house for my mom and dad and uh helped my dad uh buy a gulf service station and uh Bobby and I just turned 16 got our driver's license and he gave us the car he was driving which was a 50 model Doo and we traded in on a uh 52 Old mobile and uh we started traveling by oursel 16 years old my dad uh put uh bought this gulf service station and my older brother Don and Gary they were working there they traded shifts but dad of course was the manager of it and one night they were closing up and U they it was a two Bay service station the old time days they had sure enough service station a Bays that you could go in and they would change your oil and gree your car and they'd come out and they had a little Bill cap they they look I mean they look great they look like a pilot of an airplane I mean with the gulf up there and and can I fill her up with Ethel they would say and but anyway they were cleaning up that uh the two bays the wash bay and the grease rack and they had poured gasoline all over the floor and was scrubbing the floor to get the the gasoline up and there was a u oil stove in the office which was a a different compartment there with the door shut and they were scrubbing the floor Gary and and Donald well uh somehow that door got open and the fumes of that gasoline exploded they were in there and Gary was on the for Bay and there was an outside door there but when it exploded it it actually blew him off of his feet and he fell back down in that gasoline and it got his his legs of his pants wet with gasoline and of course that caught right on fire and uh uh Donald came to and pushed him out that and said g gar get away from here get away get get out of here get away get away and by that time it it was just it wasn't just a fire it was an explosion and uh Gary got got out 12 years old and he he he didn't know he was on fire he was so much excitement and his the the the fire was burning his leg and he was getting away from the service station and he was burning and and and he didn't didn't realize it and there was two boys in a in a coupe car driving by and they saw him and they stopped and they they grabbed him and throw him down on the the ground and patted the fire out now why did God allow them boys to come by there like that but they came by and they saw him and he didn't know what they were they beat the fire out thems and threw him in their car and took off to the hospital Donald didn't even know what happened to Gary Gary had disappeared and these two young boys were taking him to the hospital and a policeman stopped him and wonder why they were speeding and they told me I got this young kid here he was on fire and he's he's burned up was going to the hospital and the policeman said follow me and when gar and I was talking about that this week we couldn't talk we both broke down and ball like babies we couldn't he couldn't talk to me and I couldn't talk when we because as we thought about what God arranged how God was manage it we don't know sometime what God is doing and so the the policeman turned on his siren and sped them to the hospital and they took him right to the emergency room and started working on him well the story doesn't end there his leg was burned so bad from his knee down to his ankle uh and back uh 60 some odd years ago 70 years ago uh they didn't know how to tr Burns as well as they do now and uh the doctor they would wrap his leg with the with a gauze type material and leave it two or three days and then they would un unwrap it and when they would unwrap it it would just take the skin off and it was just just absolute horror horrible and and finally the doctor told my dad that they was going to have to amputate his leg and dad said no you're not going to amputate my son's leg no you're not and the doctor said yes we are and you can't do anything about it you can't we're going to do because he's got to have his leg amputated my dad went home and got a blanket and he came back to the hospital that very night and I presume to closed the door and he took the hospital clothes off of Gary Gary was 12 years old and he wrapped him in that blanket that he got from home and he started down the hall and they stopped him and said sir you can't take you can't take this child away this Hospital dad said sir get out of my way or somebody is going to get hurt and my dad made it out of there with with Gary and they took him to a Dr bow Dr bow there uh said all right and Dr B had a uh bathtub in his uh facility there and he said I'm going to unwrap you said you we're going to unwrap your leg and get I said oh I can't stand it he said no I'm not going to unwrap it you are he filled the tub with warm water and set Gary in it and let and I said now when it starts hurting you stop and let Gary uh slowly and unwrap his own leg and he unwrapped his own leg and and then Dr bar said now I'm going to take you back to the same hospital but this time you're going to be under anesthesia and you're going to have to have a skin grath and so they took him back and and they uh put him to sleep and they had a machine that would strip uh uh strips of of skin off one leg and put it on the other and they grab skin from his knee down to his ankle a and uh it started healing my mother uh after hours she couldn't they couldn't see him she would go to the window and they was doing some uh uh uh building on that and she'd get up on a a one of those barrels and talk to Gary through the window now we look back 65 or 70 years ago where did those boys come from how did God God saw fit to use what was there that he could have miraculously put brand new Flesh on his leg but God allowed this to happen and this to happen and this and Gary is is is well today in his 80s and he sits over here on Sunday morning let me tell you something you don't know what God is doing in your life and every one of you sitting here tonight if you'll think back with me there's things that's happened in your life that it had to be God taking care Hallelujah Mark was about was a 6 weeks old we were going to to going to Michigan was around Christmas time time and and around 6 weeks old and we didn't have the interstate back then and uh we was going up the old 25 Highway uh in the Edge of LA father I believe it was and a break started uh making a terrible noise on the car and every time I touch them it it get real and I pulled over to the curb and and got out and sister M was holding Mark in her arms and she realized that he was running a little bit of a fever or something but as we were sitting there a policeman came up to see what our trouble was and I told him that that my car was making a noise the brakes and he opened the car door and looked in and saw sister mul holding a baby in her arms and the policeman reaches in and touches him on the head and he was burning up with a fever he had a a severe case of coup and the policeman said you're not leaving here with this baby we're going to the hospital he led us to the hospital and they took we took him in the emergency and stripped him stripped his clothes and started bathing him in alcohol and they worked with him all night long and honey am I not right they said he could have died before morning had had he not been brought to the hospital at the time yes God could have miraculously healed him but your pastor today is here because a chain of events God was moving in these things and letting a policeman being a part of that uh Miracle letting the hospital do their thing and and now we we we've got a pastor today what I want to tell you to to tonight is is God is still in charge and you may not know what he's doing but God is moving if they ask you what you why you're in time the donkey just tell him the master needs him and don't question him the master needs you and the master needs you and you and you God needs every one of us yes he does well let me go on ah I don't know whether I'm going to preach teach or tell stories that happened in my life because so many things are coming to my mind I was reminded a while back listening to brother Bob on his uh uh program uh when Bobby and I were were born my mother were eventually had six boys and two girls and and she told the two girls pick you out whichever one of these twins you want to be the mother of and and he's yours you got to help take care of and doy chose me and um back in those days they didn't have Clorox and Purex and stuff like that to keep close they use lie Absolut put lie into the washing and to to keep to bring the the I see some folks nodding their heads I got some folks that knows what I'm talking about but one day I don't remember of course we were just just babies just crawling and maybe I I don't he was walking or not but we got into that lie and we ate some of that lie anything you baby get anything get their hands on and my sister dubby that's a uh sister Jessica and Charity's uh grandmother I guess isn't it and and but deie didn't know what to do she was there by herself with the with the twins and she grabbed lard pure lard and stuffed it in our mouth and made a swallow lard made it now you think of this she was just a young girl herself and taking care of and we had eaten the Li and she made us take that lard and it made us sick and we started throwing up and the doctor said if it hadn't been for that we would have both died because that lie would but that had a neutralizing effect the master have need of you Hallelujah the master had need the master had need of my older sister doy she didn't know what she was doing but for some reason she stuffed lard in our mouth when we had eaten lie and the doctor said that was the best thing she could have done you don't know how God is watching over you and your family your children the master had need of him he didn't need that donkey but he put himself in the position of needing him there's some things that you may not know that you need but God knows what you need and he does things for us that we don't know how to do for ourselves well where are we now here we go all right Behold thy King cometh and the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them and brought the ass and the co and put it on them and put their clothes upon him and they set him there on they took the coat and and the clothes and put it on the donkey for Jesus to to ride on and a very great multitude spread their garments in the way others cut down branches from trees and stroe them in the way now I get a thought from that right there they say a crowd draws a crowd there was said there was a a a a great a great multitude now the master had needed and when they brought that donkey put that their their coats on him their garments on him other people saw what they were doing and it inspired a great multitude and they started putting their throwing their coats in the path and some cutting down branches of palm trees that's why they call it Palm Sunday Before Christmas before Easter and started putting the the branches in the way and they started saying hosana blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord a great multitude well let me read on and a very great multitude spread their garments in the way others cut down branches from the trees and showed them in the way and the multitude that went before and followed cried saying hosana to the son of David blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord hosana in the highest now that word hosana in the Old Testament means save us please save us it was a pleading statement in the Old Testament hosana was a pleading in the New Testament it meant praise pleading turn to praise and now then they they will send hosana giving praise to him blessed he that cometh in the name of the Lord I want you to know the pleading that we've had has turned to praise and we're saying blessed is the hosan that cometh in the name of the Lord and it said I'm thy King we he is our King he is God manifesting the flesh that came to this earth to shed his life to give his life for us don't you let Give the Lord hand clap if you love [Applause] him and when he was come into Jerusalem all the city was moved saying who is this who is this Jesus said in St John 14 let not your heart be trouble you believe in God believe also in me and my father's house so many mansions if it or not so would have told you I go to prepare a place for you and if I go to prepare a place I'll come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there you may be also and whether I go you know in the way you you and you know Philip said Lord we don't know the way how can we know the way Jesus said I am the way the truth and the light no man cometh into the father except by me now that we found the door he said I'm the door to the Sheepfold he's a door to heaven and you and I have found that way so straight As the gate Narrows the way that leadth to life and few there be that find it thank God I found the way we used to sing the old sing Oh I have found the way I found the way oh Glory Hallelujah I have found the way aren't you glad you found the way all right I'm watching the clock I'm not going to I'm not going to preach all night I'm I'm going to I've got Wednesday night I've got my own my own self timed now it said that this was done to fulfill a prophecy now let's go back in Z in Zechariah 9 and and read the prophecy here's what it said hundreds of years before Jesus was born hundreds of years before this took place Zechariah 9 starting at verse 9 Rejoice greatly oh Daughters of Zion shout oh Daughters of Jerusalem Behold thy King cometh unto thee he is just and having salvation lowly and riding upon an ass and upon a coat the F of an ass now if it was um some of modern today preachers they love to boast about how how great they are and how big how many you one preacher loves to quote the scripture commands you me we're the head not the tail God's given me this and God's and and and I don't deny one bit that God does Supply our our needs he certainly does but uh uh if it would be uh some of us preachers today if we was going to make our appearance we wouldn't come in riding on a donkey if it's was going to be be riding on a beach it'd be a big white horse it'd be a high stepping Tennessee Walker or something you know H it wouldn't but Jesus chose a lowly donkey and the fold of a donkey and this um bow of a donkey that means a a baby donkey or a young donkey had never been ridden now they were used to Jesus breaking up funerals and feeding multitudes and Healing The Sick but they didn't know he could be a cowboy they didn't know he could break a a you don't get on a a young donkey that's never been ridden that his owner hadn't trained him and hadn't broke him but Jesus got on that and even that donkey cooperated because this was a special day this was the day that Jesus was going to be proclaimed King of the Jews hosana blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord and then it said now this is the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice your daughters of Zion shout Daughters of Jerusalem Behold thy King cometh unto thee he is just and having salvation lowly and riding upon an ass and upon a coat the full of an ass and I will cut off the Chariots from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem and the the battle bow shall be cut off and he shall speak peace unto the Heathen and his domain shall be from sea even to Sea and from the river even to the end of the Earth as for thee also by the blood of thy Covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water those of you that's been thrown into prison those of you that's been thrown into a pit God said I'm going to deliver you and then he said verse 12 turn you to the stronghold ye prisoners of Hope every day I declare that I will render double unto thee Oh My let's look at that a little closer turn you to the stronghold you prison ERS of Hope Dy Rambo wrote the song I'm a prisoner of love I'm a slave to the master I seek no reward in this world below now we're prisoners of hope faith is a substance of things hope for the evidence of Things Not Seen now we may be living in a frail tent called the human body now we may be living in a a very defective body that Adam caused when he and Eve sin the old body that's uh subject to aging subject to authori subject of cancer neuritis and all kinds of diseases subject all of that and we're said but let me tell you this he said you turn your prisoners of Hope even this day do I declare that I will render double unto thee for every pain I've had for every trial I've had God said I'm going to ro you double I will give you twice the blessing that you had in your trials and your and your your troubles and your hurts and your pain I got news for you folks that there's good things ahead there's good things on the way because the the the the the King has come and now that he's he's telling us that where he's going he's going to prepare a place for us I've heard it explained like this and I'll borrow it if it if it uh took six days for the Lord to create the heavens and the earth and the seventh day rested and he's been gone 2,000 years and he's gone to prepare a place for us he been two boy some kind of place he's got for us he said Heaven's my throne and the Earth is my foot what a foot stol the heaven is my throne and the Earth is my foot stol and he said where I am there ye may be also what you and I have got to look forward to Child of God I Paul no wonder Paul said to L his Christ and to die is gain no wonder it said I'm in a state betwix the two whether to remain with you folks are to go on and be with the Lord Which is far better Oh Glory let me tell you something I've got an article I've been looking at some of the old articles and one of the Articles I've got in that I I wrote an article on funerals and I talk about blessing in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his Saints what a glorious time it is be the sting of death of sin the Bible said but let me tell you once we cross that Mark we're going and the Bible said be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord oh hallelujah what a time what a day what a glorious Victory it's going to be to the child of God hosana comes from the Hebrew word meaning save now or save us we pray this Old Testament prayer was a Prayer of Salvation however by the time we come to the New Testament this prayer turns to praise and the people and the the people along Jesus parade route they were praising him unto salvation when they said hosana blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord John 3 and2 says the same came to Jesus by night and said unto him Rabbi we know that thou art a teacher come from God for no man can do these Miracles that thou doest except God be with him now we have talked about how in this uh in this chapter Jesus said if they if they ask you why you're untying the donkey tell them the master hath need of him and the king not only the king of Israel but the King of Kings and the Lord of lords was going to be sitting on that low donkey and these people I don't know where they were a few days later when he was being tried when the Bible said all of his disciples forsook him everyone n none of them Peter cursed and denied him all the rest of them forsook him they they were they were not there but at this particular time there was a multitude seeing the King of Kings come riding in on a donkey and they begin to say hosana blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord now this reminds me of something that we might take notice of they started out with two disciples and all that that they didn't solicit a crowd they didn't say come and follow me the Bible don't record that at all it just said they took the the donkey and and put the their garments on him and others saw what was going and they begin to join in they begin to throw their coats and and their garments on and then even in the path of the donkey they begin to uh throw clothes and and branches off the trees and and the Bible said a great multitude now you can tell folks how to live or you can show them how to live brother Charles richond used to tell me he was a by the way he was a marine and he said he they taught him in the Marines he said they'll he said they tell you that we'll tell you how to do it and we'll show you how to do it and then we'll see to it that you do it well if you and I live the life the life we live speaks louder than what we say and sometimes the Bible said a fool is known by his multitude of words sometimes you can you can talk too much sometimes it's best to to live a life that folks will see that you're living a a a Christian life but their actions now get what I'm saying now their their behavior so in they didn't they didn't solicit a crowd they didn't say come to hear us preach come we got this that come we got the best music we got a great preacher that they just simply put their coachs on the doning L them in and and the everybody begin to join in begin to join in and it wound up a great multitude I wonder what would happen if every one of us would show how much we love God but how we love to go to the house of God and worship when they when they see you come and you act like you enjoying yourself and you're praising God you don't have to tell them they're low down Sinners and they're going to hell all you got to tell for God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life that's what he's going to do for us if we'll just live the life all right now then when they got by the time they got to Jerusalem from from Beth Page where they were there was a a great multitude that was following them and I'm saying to you tonight if we'll continue on doing what the Lord has given us to do yes sir I believe in the music that we're playing yes sir I believe in the S the music the singing what a inspiration what a joy and a blessing it is uh yes sir what that that I Pastor for Sunday night he he did more teaching than preaching it was so good and so rich it it was just it was just something that everybody needed to hear and it wasn't a sermon that you would run the A and Shout over necessarily but it was so filled with nutrients spiritually so filled with spiritual vitamins and there's a there's a preacher I listen to every now and then he said the best vitamin for a Christian is B1 and that's I thought that's so very true and just be one and if you'll be one and live the life then God's going to win others for you would you stand your feet with us right now oh how good the Lord has been to us one more little story I've got to tell you that so many things that happens that could alter our our life when sister M was a little bitty girl they lived at at Cook town it's called up in in fork mountain that's suburb of of Bakersville North Carolina and it's just a few miles from frog level and uh just around the corner from Flor for's Glory now I'm not joking these are actually they're street signs there highway signs and but oh what a what a angel was born to raise her God raised her for me but they were planting potatoes and you Farmers know how you plant potatoes you take a knife and you cut the eye of the potato all the potatoes got eyes and you cut that cut that eye out and you plant it and that's that's the seed that's what causes the potatoes to grow they grow underground and then you have to go when the time comes for you to harvest you you actually dig them up and and there'll be all kinds of potatoes down down under there well they needed a knife they were getting ready to plant the potatoes and and right down the the road from uh uh cook town where they were they told B go down to S place and get us a knife said I when you get that knife said when you bring it back said carry it straight down I don't cuz she was just a little little girl and she had a little little pair of of short pants with a little little patch pockets on them and uh so they so she went and got that uh got that knife and she was going to back up the the hill where they were planting the garden and uh her dad had an ox and the old Ox was
