proverbs chapter 18 and verse number 10 i'm going to read one verse you might just be able to quote it simply says the name of the lord is a strong tower the righteous runeth into it and is yeah is safe another translation says the name of the lord is a strong tower a righteous person rushes to it and is lifted up above danger oh i can't wait to preach this come to preach tonight run to the name run to the name just figured we learned a choir song named strong tower strong tower youth camp is starting tomorrow might as well preach about strong tower listen i i cannot tell you the holy ghost is in this place i'm so excited to bring the word of god that he has given to me for you come on lift up both hands to heaven father in jesus name god speak to every heart every mind every person in this house lord i feel you so strong oh my god the choir has ushered in your presence lord you've opened hearts up to receive your word tonight lord god pour your word out upon it so god let it let it fall like rain open the windows of heaven let the floodgates open wide let your people receive your word tonight in jesus name come on somebody want you to speak to him in the spirit right now if you've got the holy ghost why don't you speak in tongues of angels oh god i'm so thankful tonight oh god i'm filled with your spirit and your spirit is directing the service and your spirit oh god is making a difference in this place tonight and you are gonna feed your people i believe that in jesus name if you believe that shout amen amen you may be seated tonight amen we miss our senior pastor and our first lady tonight uh they have been ministering in lexington kentucky all day today and they're headed back home if i know them like i think i know them they're headed back home tonight so pray that god gives them a safe trip home they love they love being home and god is going to protect them on the road as they travel they're going to be a strong tower tomorrow and we're just oh i can't even i can't even tell you how excited how excited i'm about youth camp we missed it last year but we're gonna make up for it this year i believe we're gonna get a double anointing that we didn't get to have last year do you believe that young person typically a preacher will read a text then give the setting of the text the background the context of the text however tonight you probably figured this out i've read a proverb and there is no context surrounding my text and i don't want to be sacrilegious tonight but but reading the book of proverbs is like finishing your family meal at your favorite chinese restaurant and the family all cracks open their cookie y'all see how i did that that was nice that's for the viewing audience and they read the proverbs the chinese proverbs you know if you've got small children my girls my well before they could read they can all read now but before they could read when they were young they would hand me their little slip of paper daddy read mine read mine i began to read proverbs 18. let's just read a little bit verse 8 let's just read a couple verses before and a couple verses after and kind of kind of get an idea of our context and you're gonna see that i'm telling the truth the bible says the words of a tale bear are as wounds and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly verse 9 he also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster then first 10 just slips in here the name of the lord is a strong tower the righteous runeth into it in a safe ain't got nothing to do with that verse 11 the rich man's wealth is his strong city and as in high wall in his own conceit verse 12 before destruction the heart of a man is haughty and before honor is humility our text has no context so i began to study towers in ancient times and with this author we know as king solomon is talking about i began just to read and i was wondering you know we're we're talking about the name of the lord and what is he referring to when he refers to a a strong tower and i began to read that in the ancient world towers were built to protect crops roads and cities in fact i got a tower right here you can kind of you can kind of see now this i'm sure is not from bible times but it's from a couple years ago they were used domestically to watch over land owners fields and they were also used militarily in the defense of cities the watchtower stood or watchmen stood in towers armed and ready to sound the alarm if enemies threatened their territory the more towers a city had the stronger it was thought to be towers were a constant visual reminder that someone was watching out for the citizens safety i don't know about you but i'm glad we have a strong tower that's watching out over our safety tonight they evoked in people the feeling of security and people could free them when danger came psalm 21 says the lord hear thee in the day of trouble the name of the god of jacob defend thee and looking at the original language which is hebrew we find that the word defend in this psalm in psalm 21 means to be set set safely and securely on high to be too high for capture that's what that word defend right there means and by implication means to be too strong and be in accessible and when we compare this solomon's phrase strong tower this connection is unmistakable to the psalm that his father david wrote it was a strong tower that was an elevated tower there was a very strong influence in his life his his father king david the man after god's on heart the the first recorded worship leader he always had listen he was always talking about the name of the lord he praised his name in psalm 7 17 i will praise the lord according to his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the lord most high david called upon his name let me set a foundation just for a moment we'll get we'll have some church here in a moment david called upon his name he said i will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the lord and then david proclaimed the excellency of his name o lord our lord how excellent is thy name in all the earth who hath set thy glory above the heavens and we already read psalm 20 and 1 which simply says the lord hear thee in the day of trouble the name of god of jacob defend thee it's it's this last statement made by david the name of god defend you most likely inspired his son solomon to write this proverb when he said the name of the lord is a strong tower it was probably a direct correlation to david's victory over the giant goliath and i'm going to briefly preach about this giant encounter in a few minutes but but speaking of being defended from a giant i want to tell you a little story about a little giant encounter that i had in eighth grade i went to school in uh skinny atlas central school which is in skinny atlas new york on skinny atlas lake try to spell it i bet you can't one of the finger lakes and we we had a great school had great students we we didn't have a lot of trouble makers but we had one bully in the bully he enjoyed middle school and he had kind of spent a couple extra years in middle school and i promise you he was all of six foot five inches 250 pounds he was a giant let's just be honest i was i was in eighth grade a middle schooler i was young i was probably about five seven at the time maybe five eight at the time he was humongous and for whatever reason i don't even know what it was i i you know i was smart i stayed away from him didn't really you know i just i just made sure wherever i sat brother dean i sat in a different part of the room i didn't i we really didn't have any conversations i didn't mess with him he didn't mess with me everything was good brother garza we really had a good reputation for the first five or six years of our schooling together until i caught him in eighth grade well justin i don't know what ha i can't even remember what happened because it all i think fear has erased it out of my brain but for whatever reason in social studies class one day he shoved me now listen y'all i'm not a fighter i don't claim to be a fighter i ain't never taking karate i wasn't in wrestling in school i just don't care i have a gun you know what i'm saying i don't care that wasn't a threat or anything i'm just saying but he shoved me but what i do have really good is i have really good reflexes so when he shoved me for i don't know i don't know how it happened i didn't train for it i just swung reflex swung and caught him in the chin it didn't hurt him but it embarrassed him so bad because what happened was when i caught him in the chin he stumbled back just enough to move about five or six desks and everything started going backwards which of course i knew i had to run right because i'm not i'm not dumb right okay so i knew that was a lucky hit fast refluxes reflexes i'm in trouble so so i began to get out of the classroom as quick as i can but in stepped the teacher who should have been there in the beginning instead the teacher mr b we called him that because we couldn't pronounce his last name but it started with a b so we called him mr b which was also our gym teacher mr b steps in the room and we're in eighth grade so everybody just kind of just sits down he never even has a clue anything took place but there was chad sitting right next to mr p and wherever mr b went in the classroom i wouldn't sharpen my pencil because i had to be next to mr b and the whole time and justin justin the giant is looking at me and he's looking at me he had these big furry eyebrows man just looking at me and i'm like oh i'm dead you know i'm dead i'm dead but but here's the more moral of the story is this it wasn't where i was it was who i was with it was my protection i this is so simple i ran to the only person in the room that could protect me and i stayed by his side now listen mr b was not at recess during lunchtime and i'm just gonna be honest with you justin found me and justin he punched me in the stomach as hard as he can but the one good thing is i was just good at i clenched my abs and i promise you brother david i promise you it didn't hurt i acted like it hurt because then we were even and everybody in the recess everybody at the playground saw what happened he got me back and i was okay with that but i go back to this the whole the whole point moral of the story is if you run to what you know can protect you i'm going to move on but i'm gonna come back to that because i'm gonna talk about david in just a minute proverbs 18 the name of the lord is a strong tower let's go back to school if you will and let's let's diagram this sentence how many member diagramming sentences i graduated 27 years ago this is the first sentence i'm gonna diagram so young people don't let your teachers tell you that your classes don't matter they matter because i'm about to diagram a sentence right here so if you remember you you got a little chart you know your little chart horizontal line you had a vertical line you put the subject on the left side subject on the left side the predicate on the right side right what's a predicate i think somebody said a word okay good amazing verb i don't know what that is okay i hated grammar uh digress so what is the subject of this sentence the name of the the the name of the lord what's the subject name what is the predicate is a what right not strong but tower so we have we have name and tower so when we read the sentence the name of the lord is a strong tower the righteous runeth into it and is safe when solomon says the word it what is he talking about name it is the subject runeth into it the name of the lord is a tower the name we're running into the subject which is name all he's saying is the name of see this is how i've always read this verse we we sing about it i love to sing about the strong tower i love going to strong tower camp but this verse is about the name it's not about the tower it's describing the name the oh the subject is we have a god who has a name in the name of our god is so powerful that we can run to that name and be safe i'm about to prove it to you today let's just let me go a little farther so the name of the lord what name is solomon referring to because we understand that in the old testament they didn't know the name that we know today they had descriptive titles they they called god in the old testament jehovah elohim which is the lord our creator jehovah el elyon the lord most high the owner jehovah adonai the lord our master jehovah el olam the lord the everlasting jehovah jireh the lord our provider we know that one jehovah rapha the lord the healer jehovah niecy the lord our banner jehovah medic dashcam the lord our sanctification jehovah shalom the lord our peace jehovah shaffet the lord the judge they knew him as jehovah saboa the lord of hosts jehovah zid canoe the lord our righteousness jehovah ra the lord the shepherd they knew him as any name that they had need of if they needed peace they knew him as a lord of peace if they needed if they needed a good shepherd they knew him as the lord the shepherd if they needed a judge in their life they knew him as the lord the judge if they needed a master they knew him as the lord our master and all throughout the old testament we understand that they hungered and longed to know his name because they knew that whatever his name was is who he would be to them so in philippians chapter 2 verse 9 we we we move on into the new testament it says wherefore god also hath highly exalted him speaking of jesus and giving him a name which is above every name and a lot of times we'll preach this and we'll say stuff like jesus is a name above donald trump jesus is the name above who's the president uh joe biden jesus is the name above kenneth carpenter and all these things are true but that's not what philippians chapter 2 verse 9 is trying to tell us it's telling us that when you call on the name of jesus you get much more than just the god of shalom you get much more than just the god of righteousness or the god of healing even the god of provision or the master or shepherd oh my god when you call the name of jesus you get all of the above whatever you need it's in the name of jesus whatever you seek after it's in the name of jesus wherever you are tonight all you got to do is run to the name that's been given to god the name above every other name jesus is our everything brother holland i'm losing my monitors jesus is our everything and when we call on jesus there's no need to call on any other name acts chapter 4 verse 12 says neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be jesus is the incarnation of the one true god it's all the fullness of the godhead in a body colossians 2 and 9 says for in him dwells all the fullness of god of the godhead bodily and you are complete in him who is the head of all principalities and power did you hear the last line there he is the head of all principality and power that's the spiritual world what that's simply saying right there is the devil may get on your back the devil may follow you around and speak all kinds of things into your ears but if you can ever run to the name of jesus his name he is he is the head of all principalities and all powers of the air the name jesus took in itself every name of god revealed to man in the old testament and i believe i'm preaching to the choir tonight i believe that if you're here tonight you already got an understanding of the name and if you've already got an understanding of the name why don't you just lift up your hands and thank him for the revelation you have i want you to know there's churches all over town that don't have the revelation that you have they don't understand who god is they're just as confused as those that were in the old testament trying to find the name they don't even understand that the fullness of the godhead dwells in jesus christ bodily but i'm so thankful and we worship him today because we know who he is solomon understood there was protection and power in the name of the lord even when he was in a dispensation that would never hear the name i want you to think about that his father david son solomon they spoke of the name of the lord and didn't even have wouldn't even reveal the true name of god but i love how the amplified bible defines solomon's proverb it says the name of the lord is a strong tower the consistently righteous man upright and in right standing with god runs into it and is safe you catch that right there upright and in right standing with god do you know why i want to be righteous do you know why i want to be right standing with god because the proverb only gives the protection to the righteous i'm sure when when solomon wrote this proverb he was he was remembering stories that have been passed down from his father david stories about the very first king of the land named saul do you remember who saw reign 2 when he needed answers the witch of endor remember that story remember samuel the prophet died the philistines are about to attack the land saul has never been in the place where the prophet wasn't in his life and here he is now and he's confused and he doesn't know what to do and doesn't know how to defend the country and how do i defend the people the philistines are coming there they're about to take us over we're going to be enslaved to the philistines and he prays to god but the problem was he was not a righteous man and because he was not a righteous man when he prayed to god nothing happened he prayed to god again nothing happened because only the righteous can run into the name of the lord and be saved so he goes to this witch of endor and long story short he had to try to conjure up the spirit and matter of fact through witchcraft he did conjure up the spirit and he began to talk to the prophet and and then the prophet began to speak to him and and it was a really crazy satanic witchcraft type story but let me tell you something from that point on the very next day saul lost his life he paid dearly for it but the bible says the righteous runeth into it or or into the name and are safe and and this is not a literal proverb it's a figurative proverb the father of the writer the mighty man of war of his youth didn't run from his enemy he ran to his enemy however at the same time as he was running to his enemy he was also running to the name look with me in first samuel chapter 17 and verse 45 the bible says this read it on the screen then said david to the philistine then said david to goliath thou cometh to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield but i come to thee in the name of the lord of hosts i'm gonna have fun with this in just a moment the god of the armies of israel whom now has defied this day will the lord deliver thee into my hand and i will smite thee and take thine head from me and i will give the carcasses of the host of the philistines this day unto the fowls of the air into the wild beasts of the earth that all the earth may know that there is a god in israel and all this assembly shall know that the lord saveth not with sword and spear for the battle is the lord's and he will give you into our hands and it came to pass when the philistines arose and came and drew nigh to meet david that david hastened that means that he hurried and ran toward the enemy to meet the philistine now brother andy i'm going to need you to turn some organ up in my monitors let me hear me here just give me a little sound check okay one more okay all right good i got you david was not about to run from his enemy david understood as long as i've got mr b next to me as long as i've got the name i can run to my enemy as i'm running to the name i want you to see this because because this is not where the story ends and david put his hand in his bag and took sense of stone and slang it and smote the philistine in his forehead that the stone sunk into his forehead and he fell upon his face to the earth so david prevailed over the philistine with a sling and with a stone and smote the philistine and slew him but there was no sword in the hand of david therefore david ran therefore david ran and stood upon the philistine and took his sword and drew it out to the sheath thereof and slew him and cut off his head there with and when the philistines saw that their champion was dead they fled now you know their story well but i'm going to do a little play on words and i hope it doesn't hurt anybody's feelings but when it talks about that he came to the giant and ran at him in the name of the lord i got to thinking about that song we sang this morning it says i'm running in everything we gotta do is in the name we gotta run to the name we gotta be in a tower we gotta be in the name god's people don't run away listen we're gonna preach in just a minute we run two we run two it's the place of power the place of power is in the name of jesus we run into the name let's read you may be see let's read some more we're gonna have some fun here in john 14 12 it says verily verily i say unto you he that believeth on me the works that i do shall he do also and greater works than these shall he do because i go unto my father and whatsoever ye do or you ask in my name that will i do that the father may be glorified in the son verse 14 says if he shall ask anything in my name i will do it listen this is just how my mind works every time i begin to read these verses and i began to read in the name it just kept on coming back so i'm running in so i'm running in yes i am mark 16 and 70 says and these signs shall follow them they believe in my name they shall cast out devils i said in my name they shall cast out devils they shall speak with new tongues they shall take up serpents they shall drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them they shall lay hands on their sick and they shall recover you probably haven't heard this next one then peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ i'm talking about a name that's a strong tower that the righteous run into and are safe i'm talking about a name that will never forsake us a name that will protect us a name that will give us power a name that will save us a name that will heal us run into the name run into the name we be given the name the name is above every other name you may be seated we had we had a couple we had a baptist pastor and wife that were in the service this morning from mississippi southern mississippi i got a call i got a call this week from a friend of his that's an apostolic pastor he said you're you're gonna have in your congregation sunday morning you're gonna have a baptist pastor and his wife that have been watching your webcast since november they're coming to pigeon forge they're coming on vacation and they're coming to your church and i've been talking to him and he said let me tell you what's what's happened up to this point he said he said i work with him we both teach in a high school together and i've been just talking to him and he said we don't argue the word of god i've just been kind of sharing the word of god with him he said and i got him on your website and he and his wife started watching your website and started watching you all preach about the oneness of the godhead and so this man and his wife that were here this morning their last name is smith they were here this morning he got to praying and god opened up his mind to see the name of jesus to see the fullness of the godhead in the body of christ he got to seeing it and he went back to his church and he stood up in the pulpit and he said i know that some of you may not agree with what i got to say tonight but i've been given a revelation and he began to preach the oneness of god he went to the apostolic pastor and he said i want you to baptize me and i want you to baptize my wife and they both went down in the name of jesus christ for the remission of their sins but whenever you do something in the spiritual realm sometimes in the physical realm things begin to happen he said you maybe see he said on monday morning he said i started getting text messages from the people of my congregation he'd been passing there for six years he said i started getting text messages he said i got textbooks thank you pastor for being real thank you pastor for studying the word thank you pastor for bringing something to us we've never seen before and and one after the other he said i was so encouraged by the text message and the phone calls i was getting he said he said i've got a youth pastor that we had just hired and he began he called me he said pastor i've never seen it before but but now that i see it i can't not see it however on saturday the saturday before easter try to try to figure this one out a couple of the deacons on the board called him and said we need to meet with you he said let's meet on monday they said oh no we need to meet with you today he said oh yes sir he said he said i was smart enough to take my bible with me he said cause i had a feeling he told me all this this morning he said i had a feeling he said i wasn't going to go into that meeting without my bible and so he said sure enough they they had a they had a a piece of paper and they were going to i'm going to try to find what this is called excommunicate him from the church some of y'all know some of y'all been excommunicated he said before i sign this excommunication letter whatever it was document he said we're going to have a little bible study and so he began to go through scripture by scripture by scripture you know the oneness of god a lot of these scriptures i just read he began to one after this he said he said i found i found this bible study he said i don't know if you've heard of it it's called search for truth he said i began he said i began to go through it he said and i got to the place where they both looked at me and said we see it but if we preach this we're gonna be kicked out of this baptist association and so they said we need you to sign this excommunication letter he said i'm gonna sign it because i sure ain't going back he's i like that he said once you see it you can't unsee it once you've been given the revelation of who your god is once you know the name my god all through the old testament they were longing to know the name my god we've been given the name why would you want to take the name i'm going to read it again acts 4 and 12 says neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved salvation is in the name somebody preach with me oh but pastor you don't know what i've been doing you don't know my backstory you don't know my pastor you don't know where i've been you don't know where i'm turning listen if you had to get good to get god none of us would have god you made me seated i'm almost done i thank god brother padre sister badri man making friends with our true purpose our brothers and sisters from true purpose let me tell you something god is not interested in your past he's interested in your future you can't do a thing about your past it's gone you've done done it it's over you can cry about it you can have sleepless nights about it you can think about it and let the devil torment you about it but the fact is it's gone you can't go back you can't fix it you can't rewrite it you can't redo it it's gone but salvation is for the future salvation is for eternity salvation is for the child of god who says i want to live a righteous life i want a name that i can run into and be safe you may be seated how about this one is any sick among you is any sick among you come on we read this verse all the time we we just read it it's kind of like a theme verse it's a theme verse when the elders pray is that a theme person this is word is any sick among you let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of healing is in the name healing is in the now i feel a miracle wants to take place in this house healing is in the name you say but pastor erickson you don't know all the details of my disease i've got a terminal issue i've got a terminal disease the doctor said there's no hope we're in stage four it's impossible i'm afflicted i've been blind in one eye all my life i'm missing some internal organs i i've got a chemical imbalance i've got a deficiency my god are you here to tell me that a god who can create a human body from nothing from the dust of the earth you tell me that he can't develop an organ inside of your body you're telling me he can't you've come too late to tell me he can't fix some chemical deficiency and imbalance you come too late just tell me he can't take cancer out of the body you come too late you tell me he can't take diabetes out of her body you've just come too late you maybe said i i wish i was like brother ham and i could come up with some cool if i was like brother hammond i'd have a whole i'd have had brother randy bring me in a load of dirt and just dump it right here bring your bobcat in and just right here how god can take that pile of dirt and form mankind but we don't have enough faith to believe that he can heal are you kidding me how much easier for a creator than to fix something we're not asking him to come up with something he ain't never come up with before you need a new heart like mcdonald's he's made billions your kidneys failing oh you don't think god can fix kidneys how basic stop taking all the credit away from our god he's a creator now peter and john went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer being the ninth hour and a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried who let me go back in a certain man lame from his mother's womb this guy had been lame he had been crippled all his life now surely he can't be healed now i understand that we have a god that's able to heal a headache or a toothache you know there's some people that just did their faith that their faith just isn't quite there you know my god is able you got a bad cough or you gotta you got the flu my god's able to heal you but we get that phone call in the middle of the night stage four oh we see that person come rolled up here he's been lame all his life he can't walk we got people in this church god help them they they can't even speak they can't talk they've got some diseases within them and we think we somehow select god to think that he's not able and the whole time god is like have you ever ran to my name you've seen peter and john's about to go in the temple he just he said give me some give me some change just just give me some give me some arms give me a hand out i just give me a cheeseburger whatever you got in your pocket pull it out just whatever you have and peter fastened his eyes upon him with john now this is in acts chapter three y'all this is the this is the next chapter after the holy ghost was poured out this was right after ye shall receive power after the holy ghost right right this is the next chapter this is the very next incident that took place this is this is the very next story in the word of god and here they are and i can just see peter going come on john let's try this power out right i mean what we have nothing to lose this guy's been lame from birth we got nothing to lose we're gonna we're gonna pull him up if nothing happens nothing happens but peter fastened his eyes upon him with john and they said look on us and he gave heed expecting to receive something of them then peter said silver and gold have a none but such as i have give i thee in the name of jesus christ of nazareth he said rise up and walk i just believe i'm running in i'm talking about in the name in the name that's able to heal in the name of savior to deliver in the name that brings peace in the name that brings joy there's nobody in this place if you need restoration there's restoration in the name of jesus somebody clap your hands if you know you serve a god who has a powerful name just remain standing i said in restoration he's in the name listen if you've fallen down it's time to get back up again be restored in jesus name come on come on be restored in jesus name don't settle for a lifestyle where you're wallering around in a fence i've been offended i give up i give in my god if you run into the name ain't nobody gonna be able to offend you you stay you stand up there you stand up there with your savior you stand up there in the name and there's not a person that can say anything to you they can say anything about you they can do anything to you they can offend you because you're there in the name you come to the strong tower where the righteous have come and in the name of jesus i i believe there's restoration in the house pieces and i wish i had time to preach all these i don't peace is in the name joy is in the name love is in the name some people trying to do it all on your own but put the picture of the tower back up there take that ugly thing off and put it down there some people camping out in the woods hoping the enemy don't find them all along there's a strong tower it's built it's ready in the old days the people if the enemy started to come they would take their possessions all their valuable possessions and they would take them to the strong tower and they would enter in and they would take their possessions up as high as they could go because they understood the last thing that gets taken in this city is the tower but when solomon began to talk about the name of jesus he was talking about a name that could be compared to no other name he was talking about a power that the philistine army didn't have enough power to overtake when he said that you ought to run into the tower or you ought to run to the name he was simply saying as long as you're in the presence of the name you're going to be safe there's nothing that can harm you nobody can harm you nobody can pluck you out of the hand of god singers get ready we're going to sing that strong tower song because i just believe there's people here that believe there is a name there is a name above every other name and i'm going to open this altar this altar is now officially open if you want to come up here and just plead the name in your life if you want to run to the name i open this halter you can say god i need healing in my body or god i need deliverance in my body or god my family needs you oh there's got to be some restoration takes place in my come on somebody you gotta
