Jesus is speaking to the disciples And he tells them that they are to go to the city of Jerusalem They are to tarry there or stay there until they're endued with power from on high That when they get to this place, there would be a message of repentance preached And a message of remission of sin in his name and that there would be people from all nations The only place in all of scripture that those five things coming to agreement is in acts chapter 2 You're in the city of Jerusalem. It is the day of Pentecost the Bible says they had gathered from all nations Peter preaches this message of repentance and Baptism in which he says there is remission of sins in Jesus name And so this this is the birth of the church This is not a disputed fact any church historian or theologian would take you to acts chapter 2 This is the birth of the church and there's so much to consider here Really all the tenants the core doctrines of The faith and certainly what we would call the apostolic faith are found in acts chapter 2 Though what we call the oneness of God, which we're gonna look at tonight And I'll come back to in a moment But the gospel is preached and the instruction is given for the response to the gospel He says and it is framed from this question men and brethren What shall we do and Peter said in acts 2 and 38 that they needed to repent That was the first action Second be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost verse 40 He said that they were to save themselves From this untoward generation So here in the birth of the church We find these core doctrines the the oneness of God the identity of Jesus Christ the gospel Which was the death burial and resurrection of Jesus our response to the gospel Which is repentance baptism and receiving the promise of the Holy Ghost and to live a holy or separated life but tonight we're going to focus our attention on on Specifically this this Jesus and so looking to the top of your handout We're gonna begin here at acts chapter 2 verse 32 Scripture says this Jesus hath God raised up. This is Peter preaching now. He says we're of we are all witnesses We've gone to the tomb. It's empty We all know this and he says therefore being by the right hand of God Exalted and having received of the father the promise of the Holy Ghost He has shed forth this which you now see and hear It's worth noting that when the Holy Ghost is poured out. There is both visible and audible evidence and my brother Scott did such a Phenomenal lesson last week on that subject and he continues verse 34 for David is not ascended into the heavens But he himself saith the Lord said unto my Lord I want you to take note that the Lord the first reference to Lord in this verse is Capitalized that is by intention and we'll come back to that in a moment Sit thou on my right hand until I make thy foes thy footstool this Verse 34 and 35 is a quotation of a messianic Prophecy from Psalms 100 and chapter 10 This verse is one of the most quoted scriptures in the New Testament from the Old Testament Let's continue verse 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God hath made the same Jesus whom you have crucified Both Lord and Christ Now when they heard this now this is the the theme or the subject from which this series has has come They were pricked in their heart and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles men and brethren. What shall we do? This question was asked in response to the preaching of Jesus Christ Both his identity and the gospel which was his death Burial in resurrection and then of course his response We know and I've already referenced his acts to in verse 38 But I direct her attention to the phrases we have read tonight that are that are emboldened on your handout the Lord Capitalized said unto my Lord lowercase Sit thou on my right hand and then in verse 36. He said the same Jesus Who you have crucified is both Lord and Christ So Your handout where you see the Lord capitalized. I said this is by intention. This is why? Through the Old Testament you will find this frequently and when you when you find Lord capitalized in your Bible that is there in place of the covenant name of God The theological term is the tetragrammatron But it's simply it's the covenant name of God and this comes from Exodus chapter 3 When God calls Moses on the backside of a desert and he begins to tell Moses 400 years is what I told Abraham 400 years of captivity 400 years of slavery But there was always an appointed time that I would come and deliver my people and he begins to tell Moses I'm going to use you to do it. I'm gonna send you before Pharaoh You're gonna tell him to let my people go you're gonna lead them to a good land and a large land It flows with milk and honey. It's everything they could ever dream of and as Excited as Moses might be to be called by God. He is no fool He knows he is vastly underqualified and very incapable of Standing before Pharaoh and so he asks who shall I tell them has sent me How how how will the Hebrews know that I'm sent by their God and how will Pharaoh know that I come? Representing one greater than myself because certainly Pharaoh would laugh at me Who am I to stand against one of the greatest powers in the ancient world and the Lord said you tell him the I am That I am Really the best the best translation we have is it it just means the self Existent one now obviously the I am that I am is English in the Hebrew It was simply those four vowels Yahweh hey vey and where we get the English transliteration Yahweh and this was the revealed name of God So why then do we not read that in the scripture? Well as time progressed The Jews begin to consider the writings of Exodus 20 and the scriptures and the admonitions from Deuteronomy Even Leviticus where God told his people you are not to take my name in vain Do not blaspheme the name of the Lord and in fear in such fear Certainly, I would say there was probably some reverence, but maybe they went a little bit too far But in fear of blaspheming the name of God and to prevent from writing it carelessly or speaking it irreverently They decided that they would simply use Lord and the Hebrew it is the term Adonai and so if they were in a setting like this where the priest was Reading from the Torah to them when they come to the place of scripture where it was the covenant name of God where it would Have been Yahweh that that priest or the the reader of scripture would simply say Adonai and In response to that because the word Adonai is simply the Hebrew word that means Lord And you could use that term in reference to somebody other than the true God in in a way for them to identify that they were speaking of the true God When the leader would say Adonai the the the hearer would respond by saying Hashem which meant the name and this was to Distinguish that the term Adonai in this place and this moment was used Exclusively in reference to the Almighty God now when you get to the New Testament which was written in Greek and Aramaic Because of the Hebrew tradition of using the word Adonai, which means Lord They carried on this tradition with the Greek word Kyrios, which is the Greek word for Lord And so this is important because when we're reading things like saying This Jesus is both Lord and Christ It's not simply meaning he is Lord as in a master There is a there's a long Theological history here, and it's very important when we approach the scripture any time But especially tonight we do it with this that we take off our kind of North American glasses and We put ourselves in the context of scripture The scripture gives us a principle of hermeneutics, which is the study of scripture and the Bible and it's this it's line upon line Precept upon precept so tonight we're reading we're reading from a book. That's that's thousands of years old Well, if we want to understand this book the way God intends us to understand it We cannot stand in the year 2024 and read back through thousands of years of history into the Bible We have to go to the beginning and work from the beginning forward What this means is there is no revelation There is no teaching in the New Testament that would contradict the Old Testament And so when we want to understand these things and these mysteries of scripture There's seven mysteries in scripture if you desire to understand these the only way you can do it is you go to the beginning And you work your way forward Let's look at Hebrews 11 and 6 here briefly the scripture says without faith. It is impossible to please him Can't please God without faith For he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that Dilligently seek him now to you and I that almost seems like an incomplete sentence You must believe that he is well. He is what? Well when you understand that this is not an incomplete thought But it is a reference to that revelation of Exodus chapter 3 if I speak in the first person I may say I am Haley's husband But when you speak of me you have to speak of me in the third person And you would say he is Haley's husband. And so in Exodus 3 when God reveals himself He says I am but in Hebrews 11 when the writer speaks of God and Specifically points us back to the revelation of Exodus 3. He says he is and so what he's saying is We are not free to believe whatever we want to believe about God When we come to God, we must believe that he is we must search the scriptures for how he has revealed himself and we must come to him on the basis of that revealed truth and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him I would say you can't adequately seek someone you do not know and So the first thing is this the first blank in your handout God is one Deuteronomy 6 and 4 it says here. Oh Israel the Lord our God is one Lord God is one this means God is Unexplicably there is no divisions of character or persons God in his essence is One and again, let's put ourselves in the context of scripture God is speaking to people that have lived among Egyptians for 400 years According to the world encyclopedia in ancient Egypt there were 2,000 named gods and When God brings them out he begins to tell them Israel I need you to hear me Your God is one and he demanded total exclusive worship to himself Now this was this was essential for them because they had come from a place where there was so many gods gods and goddesses and many Names and many concepts and God was instilling this truth into them that that is not absolute truth Your God is indivisibly one in his character and his essence the Singularity of the Hebrew God and the exclusivity of worship that he demanded made his people unique from all other people and this Coming from that first word here in the Hebrew is Shamal This is not though. We often use it. I would tell you it is not the origin of monotheism It was simply the revelation of it The concept of monotheism, which just means the idea that there is one God the concept of monotheism Begins in Genesis chapter 1 in the beginning God Not plural in the beginning God only one God that one Singular God was before all things and it was that one God that came and dwelt with Adam and Eve It was that one God that saved Noah It was that one God that called Abraham It was that one God that spoke to Moses It was that one God that dwelt by his glory in the tabernacle of Moses and Eventually it was that one God that came to earth in the body of Jesus Christ now I Want you to hear these scriptures tonight because this is God speaking through the mouth of the prophet to his people in The Old Testament and this is imperative because everything that we're going to find and read and seek to understand in the New Testament Cannot contradict what God has said about himself in the Old Testament Isaiah 43 and 11 I even I am the Lord notice It's capitalized what he's saying is I even I am Yahweh It's his covenant name and beside me. There is no savior verse 14 Thus sayeth the Lord see the capitalization Thus sayeth Yahweh your redeemer the holy one of Israel Isaiah 44 6 through 8 thus sayeth the Lord the king of Israel and his redeemer the Lord of hosts hear it I am the first and I am the last and Beside me there is no God and Who as I shall call and shall declare it and set it in order for me since I appointed the ancient people and The things that are coming and shall come let them show unto them verse 8 Fear ye not neither be afraid have not I told you from the time and have declared it You are even my witnesses Isaiah 44 and 8 hear this is there a God beside me. Yeah, there is no God I know not any Why does God go to such great lengths to? reiterate this concept over and over and over again because he knew at that present moment and most definitely in the years to come that There would be a temptation Come against his people there would be all kinds of wins of false doctrine the Bible talks about That would lead people to believe something other than the truth and so God reiterates this time and time again Isaiah 45 verses 5 and 6 I am the Lord Again, this is capitalized. He is saying I am Yahweh and there is none else There is no God beside me I girded thee and thou has not known me that they may know from the rising of the Sun and from the West that there Is none beside me. I am the Lord. I am Yahweh and there is none else It seems pretty clear to me There are more scriptures, but we only have an hour together tonight. I think we see it God is clear. He is the only God and there is no one beside him Yahweh the the identity of this one God. He said I am the Lord your redeemer The second point is this God is invisible John 1 18 simply says no man has seen God at any time John 4 24 It says God is a spirit and when we worship him we must worship in spirit and in truth So when we're talking about God this one God who was at the beginning Who worked through the narrative of the Old Testament who has worked for the Jews throughout history? this God is one and he is spirit which means he is invisible but Moving to the next portion. This is this is work. It's exciting We will see salvation the Old Testament is full. It is full of scriptures like this Isaiah 12 and 2 behold God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song He also is become my salvation verse 4 and in that day You shall praise the Lord notice the capitalization in that day. You shall praise Yahweh call upon his name declare his doings among the people make mention that his name is Exalted now we've already read in Isaiah 43 and 14 how God himself Said I am Yahweh your Redeemer and here in Isaiah 12 the prophet is speaking and the Lord speaks through him and says God is my salvation For the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song He also is become my salvation the name Jesus Literally translated means Jehovah is salvation or Jehovah Yahweh saves So you could read Isaiah 12 like this for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song He also is become my Jesus the Yahweh of the Old Testament the Lord and Capital letters of the Old Testament is the Jesus of the New Testament He is not a part of God or one person of God or separate from God. He is the same One God you say well how then do you reconcile that this man is human? Well, I've got all the scriptures listed here that may not be on the screen But I'm going to read them and you can reference them in your study later first Timothy 3 16 Paul says without controversy Great is the mystery of godliness what he's saying is this is without controversy There is no other teaching. This is not a disputed claim All of the church believes this doctrine God was manifest in the flesh God that one God who was from the beginning who is one who is spirit and who is invisible That God Yahweh the Lord Almighty Became my salvation by being manifest which means to become flesh First John 1 again context is everything when John is writing this epistle This is several decades after Jesus death burial ascension. He's gone into heaven and The church has as it spread beyond the the borders of Jerusalem And it pressed into areas of the world that were not trained in Hebrew thought All kinds of Greek mythology all kinds of Egyptian influence There were all kinds of Philosophies that begin to infiltrate the church. This is why in one letter Paul is warning against vain philosophy And specifically what John is writing about in first John 1 is there was a Concept called docitism which taught that Jesus was not really a man They said he's just a spirit There wasn't really any flesh. There was no blood. He was just a spirit. I hear what John says about that That which was from the beginning What was from the beginning? God in the beginning God and When John in his earlier letter the Gospel of John wrote about the beginning He said in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God So that which was in the beginning is God and this is what he says we have heard We have seen with our eyes We have looked upon our hands have handled of the word of life So what John is saying is don't you accept anybody who's telling you that Jesus was not really a man He's saying I've heard him talk. I've seen him with my eyes. I've held him with my hands in verse 2 for the life What life the word? was Manifested and we have seen it and bear witness and show unto you the eternal life Which was with the father and was manifest unto us Verse 3 we have seen and heard we declare it to you now that you also may have fellowship with us now This may not be a favorable opinion, but but there was a test of fellowship in the early church and What he was saying was if you're gonna if you're gonna serve this God and be in fellowship with this church Then you must obey what Hebrews 11 says even though the scripture Was not written at that juncture like it is for us The principle had already been set if we're gonna worship God we must worship in spirit and in truth He said our fellowship is with the father and with his son Jesus Christ It's important when you when you read this because remember we've already read the Old Testament scripture God said of himself there is none beside me So how then do you reconcile this language of the man Jesus Christ? Anytime you read of the son the son of man or his son Jesus Christ It would do you well to just in your mind replace that word son with body Because this is what he's saying if you're gonna have fellowship with us you need to believe this truth Our fellowship is with the father with the one God But the only way we have fellowship with the one God is through the atoning work of his body through the man Jesus Christ So when we're talking about Jesus, this is not a separate person or part of God No, the one God the same God who was in the beginning who was in the tabernacle of Moses He now dwells in the tabernacle of the body of Jesus Christ And this is why Jesus does this countless times through his ministry, but in John chapter 8 He's in a dialogue with those who are skeptical of him Verse 23 this is what he says You are from beneath, but I am from above You are of this world, but I'm not of this world Verse 24 I said therefore unto you this is Jesus now That you shall die in your sins For if you believe not that I am he If you've got a king james bible that word he is probably italicized That indicates to you that that was not in in the original manuscript It was added by translators for the sake of clarity So what Jesus literally says is if you believe not that I am Where have you heard that before in Exodus chapter 3? But now he is not speaking through a fiery bush He is speaking through the human body of the man Jesus Christ And he says except you believe that I am except you believe that I am your way You will die in your sins and they say who are thou? Because they can't fathom in fact the accusation was made to him in his ministry You are a man making yourself God. I'm sorry you missed it. He is not a man making himself God He was God making himself man You know why he did this? Because there had to be a mediator There had to be a way in which fallen sinful frail humanity could get in touch with a holy and sinless God Unless you believe that I am And Jesus said unto them when they asked who are thou he said Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning In the beginning God See when when it came time the scripture uses the phrase the fullness of time when when the fullness of time had come that God said All right, I am going to fulfill my plan and I'm going to be the redeemer that I promised I would be I am Yahweh your Redeemer Isaiah 43 and when it came time for God to fulfill his word In an act the plan of redemption in the world. He didn't delegate somebody else to do the job And I know sometimes we get caught up on the terminology father son because you think well If I being a father delegated one of my three sons to do something That identifies or insinuates a plurality of persons But God already told you he is he is one in his essence and in his his identity He is Indivisibly one and there can be no later revelation of scripture that reveals an earlier revelation of scripture Jesus even with his own disciples they they say to him if you would just show us the father it would suffice with us He says Have I been with you so long? You do not know me If you have seen me you have seen the father Except you believe that I am Yahweh Except you believe that I in the same god that's been working from the beginning you shall die There is no other god beside me. He had been telling them that for thousands of years This idea of father and son now now there may be in some sense that my sons Share a part of my identity in in some way our dna's are alike and in some way we are one We are not one in identity You can speak to my child independent of speaking to me You can do something with my child independent of me Even my wife and I by virtue of marriage the scripture calls us one flesh Perhaps there is there is no union in the in the world more more spiritual and uniting than that of marriage But i'm not in my wife and she is not in me you can talk to her independent of me But it is not so when we speak of jesus for his very essence his identity is that of the father I I would say it to you like this if I could uh if I could use a big word It's not original to me because i'm not smart enough for words like this, but I heard it one day If you could snap my your fingers right now and you could make one of my sons disappear Well that you can do that and I still be present because we are not one in identity But if you could snap your fingers and make the father the true god Yahweh disappear instantaneously the man jesus christ would disappear Because he is existentially one with the father it is literally who he is But he he is not he is not moving through a fiery bush and he's not moving through a wind that parts the waters He is now taking up residence in the body of jesus christ So when god said i'm going to fulfill my word and i'm going to be a redeemer to my people I'm not what kind of dad would I be if I set my little boy to do my dirty work That's why paul said in romans 5 and 8 that god commended his love toward us That while we were yet sinners christ died for us How could christ death convey god's love except christ be god? That's why paul said in 2nd corinthians 5 19 two went that god Yahweh the one god was in christ In that flesh reconciling the world unto himself see the singularity of the of the language Himself Colossians 1 19 and 20 For it pleased the father that in him in jesus should all fullness dwell Verse 20 having made peace through the blood of his cross By him by jesus to reconcile all things unto himself By him i say whether they be things in earth or things in heaven See the singularity of language it's because There is no plurality of persons It was god the one god the omnipresent spirit of god Took up residence in this body God manifest in the flesh the spirit became flesh because he told them in isaia 43 I Yahweh am your redeemer and redemption it had been prophesied from the garden that the heel of the woman Will crush the head of the serpent isaia prophesied that a child would be born This was that old messianic prophecy and it was fulfilled when yahweh came as jesus which literally means Yahweh is salvation This is the beautiful truth of one god and paul would write in colossians 2 and 9 for in him For in jesus dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily I want you to let's leave that up there for just a second. I want you to take note of this Because there's all kinds of books Teachings you're going to hear all kinds of language in modern christianity that say this That jesus is in the godhead You're not going to find that anywhere in your scripture Dinners on me next week if you can What you'll find is this right here for in jesus Dwells all the fullness Of the godhead bodily so jesus wasn't in it That is a language or concept that is derived from this idea that there is a plurality of persons And they're trying to put those plurality back into the singularity of the godhead But what the bible teaches is that the one god the fullness of god All that he is and all that is accessible to us was in it is available to us through jesus christ I would say it like this If you want god If you want to encounter the salvation that was promised from the beginning If you want the lord yaway to be your redeemer There is only one way And there is only one name John 14 and 6 Jesus sayeth unto him I am The way the truth and the life No man cometh unto the father but by me I know it's not popular in 2024 But there is exclusivity to the kingdom of god Not of any people anybody's welcome Doesn't matter how bad the sin is how grave the mistake may have been anybody's welcome You don't have to be dressed a certain way you don't have to have an education or a pedigree It doesn't matter what language you speak your skin color your social class Anybody can come but if you choose to come there is only one way to come I am the way the truth and the life No man cometh to the father no man comes to the true god But by me Acts 4 and 12 Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven Given among men whereby we must be saved I know it's not the emphasis of of this tonight But I would tell you that salvation is a necessity We must be saved But if you're seeking salvation Just know this There's not salvation anywhere else That's what he told the woman at at the well in john 4 You don't even know what you worship But we do the jews do for salvation Is of the jews What he was saying was this salvation that has been prophesied to the world Is coming out of the lineage and the narrative of the hebrew people it's coming out of the jewish history It is of the jews This was jesus There is none other name under heaven given among men The only name that saves is jesus There is no other name If we go back to our actually let's just jump back to isaia 12 just for a moment this messianic prophecy God is my salvation I will trust and not be afraid For the lord johova is my strength and my song and the lord johova is also become my jesus And in that day in what day in the day that johova becomes my jesus In that day he said you're going to praise the lord and call upon his name. What name jesus Hey, thank god that every time you need him You don't have to pull out a book and run through the list of the old testament covenant names of god johova raffae and johova sid canoe and johova shalom and all of these different things because in the fullness of jesus was all All of that god he is and all that god ever has and will be he made it available to us through the life death and burial Of jesus christ, so the scripture says whatever you do in word or indeed do it all in the name of the lord jesus christ That messianic prophecy has been fulfilled johova has become my salvation He became flesh. He died for me. He showed his love for me And that day we're going to praise johova by calling on his name the name of jesus This is the beautiful truth Of one god, but if you go back to our opening text The lord said unto my lord sit thou on my right hand Oftentimes there's there's there's a misunderstanding of this as well and people get confused confused with this terminology of Sitting on my right hand because if I say that that my wife is at my right hand you presume That I speak of of the physical placement to the right side of my body But you will not find any jew anywhere in the world Unless they have denied their faith That will tell you That's what it means We don't have time to go through all of the scriptures tonight Uh, I did put put a couple there in your in your handout But exodus 15 is one we'll look at there are countless verses like this in the old testament This is just following god parting the waters Bringing his people through a great demonstration of power and deliverance And moses says thy right hand. Oh lord Is become glorious in power Thy right hand. Oh lord hath dashed in pieces the enemy Now you probably have already concluded this but but there was no right hand that miraculously appeared in that moment It is not meant to be interpreted literally. It's metaphoric. It's figurative And this terminology of right hand is used all through the scripture figuratively to convey the power of god And so even today we use this I Had a boss years ago. He used that phrase all the time. He would say so and so is my right hand man Well, he didn't mean that that person literally walked at his right hip all day long What he meant Was that person fulfills my will they execute my desires I have delegated my authority to them to fulfill what I need done It's figurative And it's the same in the scripture So looking at Hebrews 1 and 3 The bible says who it's talking about jesus Who being the brightness Of his glory You know, it's beautiful about this Is way back in the old testament moses asked The lord ya way He said show me your glory And he couldn't the bible said that the lord went by him and he saw the hinder parts of god There's different schools of thought but A lot of jews tend to believe that what he was telling moses was i can show you my glory in the past from creation until present But i can't show you my face Because it's not yet been created But the beautiful thing was on that mount of transfiguration There jesus is with moses and the prophets and The prayer request was answered in the spirit He allowed moses to see it And now speaking of jesus The writer of hebrew said that jesus is the brightness of god's glory The express image of his person singular Because there's no plurality in god It doesn't matter how you try to decorate at what terminology you use If you inject plurality into the identity or the essence of god You are apoliteistic or you are tritheistic at best God is absolutely An indivisibly one And jesus ya way in flesh as our redeemer he was the express image of his person Upholding all things by the word of his power and when he had by himself Purged our sins he sat down on the right hand of the majesty on high so again Sometimes people are perplexed with this terminology of right hand. I I would also highlight there is significance that he sat down hebrews ten talks about this at length But it distinguishes to us the difference of jesus being our great high priest And all the priests that have served in the history of israel Jesus offered the sacrifice once and for all because he was ya way the lord our redeemer He was sinless and his blood was spotless and his blood could do what the blood of bulls and goats and rams could not do So he sat down because the sacrifice had been offered the plan had been fulfilled On the right hand of the majesty on high I put the reference in your scripture act seven. You may be familiar with this account This is at the stoning of the martyr steven Verse 55 The bible says he steven Being full of the holy ghost Looked up steadfastly into heaven And saw the glory of god Who did he see jesus Standing on the right hand of god People say well if if the bible speaks of god and jesus being at his right hand there must be a plurality. No He told you there's one so there can be no future revelation that contradicts the previous revelation And nowhere in the scripture was the right hand of god ever used in reference to a physical position It was always figurative to speak of the demonstration of god's power When he brought them out of egypt by his right hand There wasn't a right arm that reached out of heaven and carried them out. It was figurative of his power And so what steven is saying Is when I saw the glory of god and jesus standing on the right hand of god He's saying i realized that jesus this jesus was how god's power in salvation was coming to the world Look at it verse 56 behold. He said I see the heavens open and the son of man The body that's what he's talking about. I see the son of man standing on the right hand of god That term son of man is always in reference to the humanity of jesus christ He was god in flesh fully god and fully man But anytime you find the term son of man the scripture is speaking to you of his humanity And this is what steven is saying steven is looking up in this moment And he's saying i i i see the one i've sat at tables with and broke bread with I see the one i have prayed with and i have learned from i see the man the body I have touched and fellowship with but i realize he's not just a man He is yaway my redeemer. He is god revealing himself to us That's what he's saying i see the son of man on the right hand of god was not a physical literal position It was metaphorical. It was figurative to convey to us. He's getting the revelation you you are not just a man You have fulfilled your word. You are the lord almighty who said there was a day coming That yaway would become my salvation. I see it To see jesus is to see the glory of god And so in verse 59 As they stoned steven he is literally enduring The agony of being stoned soon to die the bible says he calls upon god saying lord jesus Received my spirit So if you just want to do what the scripture says If you want to be obedient to the pattern of scripture and you want to get to that god And you want to get to that lord who promised redemption and salvation And you want to get to that lord who is a great deliverer who's by his right arm by his power He can save by his power. He can heal by his power. He can deliver Just do what steven did when you want god Call on the name Lord jesus This this Is the revelation That this jesus Is both lord and christ Jesus christ literally means Yaway Has anointed this body To be salvation Listen, we we can hop a flight to mexico tomorrow and meet all kinds of guys named jesus But but their blood ain't gonna do anything for you It was only that jesus This jesus This jesus who you crucify And you buried but was a resurrect and ascended into the heaven this jesus Is both lord the true god and christ our redeemer The only god in my salvation And the only response to that truth Is what shall we do Repent Be baptized in jesus name for the remission of sins And you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost I'll close here john 14 jesus is In a dialogue with his disciples and he starts telling them look i'm going somewhere you can't go They're struggling with it. I'm gonna read it quick verses 11 through 20 He says believe me that i'm in the father and the father in me There are one in their identity. They're not different persons. There is no plurality Or else believe me for the very work's sake. It's evident that the works of my life show you Who I am Didn't job tell you about a god that walked on the water In case you weren't there just ask peter How about the god in flesh that came walking on water? Verily verily I say unto you he that believeth on me the works that I do shall he do also Greater works than these shall he do because I go unto my father And this is what they're struggling with They can't imagine life with the absence of the man jesus christ Verse 13 Whatsoever you shall ask in my name that will I do that the father may be glorified in the sun The only way you get to god The only way you get to the father the only way you access the power of the father the true god Is through the name jesus christ If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it if you love me keep my commandments I will pray the father and he shall give you another comforter That he may abide with you forever. So he introduces this concept I'm not going to be here in my flesh But don't worry. There'll be another comforter And he'll abide with you forever verse 17 even the spirit of truth The world cannot receive because it seeeth him not neither know with him, but you know him For he dwelleth with you and shall be in you See this he's talking about the spirit the indwelling of the spirit But he said you already know him He dwells with you right now. He's talking about and physically You he's already with you, but he shall be in you How in the world does he who is with me in the flesh get in me? And he's talking in the third person then in verse 18 he switches And he goes to the first person I will not leave you comfortless I will come to you What was he talking? He was talking about the holy ghost that was going to be poured out in acts chapter 2 on the day of penny cost And he was telling him don't worry I'm not going to leave you I my body is going to leave you But the same one god that has been working in the world from the very beginning He's going to keep on working in the world and he's going to work in your life And he who has walked with you and his flesh is now going to dwell in you by his spirit I will not leave you comfortless. In fact, you look at the word comfortless It literally means to be orphaned So what he's saying is I Will be your father Well, how how can the spirit be the father because there's only one god? Yet a little while in the world see of me no more But you see me because I live you shall live also verse 20 at that day You will know that I am in my father. We're one And you are in me and I am in you Hear that You in me and I in you How do you get in jesus and how does jesus get in you? Thanks for asking You get in jesus When you're baptized in jesus name That's what paul said in romance chapter six. We are baptized into christ That's why it matters how you're baptized and what is said when you're baptized Because when you are being baptized you are literally saying i'm being baptized into your death So whatever is said over you in baptism You've got to be able to take me to the scripture and show me where where that person was was buried where they died and were buried Well, jesus died and was buried in a tomb and paul said in roman six that like he was buried We are baptized into christ baptized into his death and then we rise to walk in the newness of life The way we get in jesus is through baptism And the way jesus gets in us is through receiving the gift of the holy ghost paul said in clausians one it's christ in you christ The body no By his spirit That's what he said in romans eight if we have not the spirit of christ. We are none of his Well, how can this be because there's only one god Only one god Yahweh has become salvation and he revealed a name that is above every name That at the name of jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess at the name of jesus cancer can disappear And at the name of jesus sickness can shrivel up and at the name of jesus Sin can be conquered It's the name above all names This jesus is both lord and christ Stand together with me First Thessalonians 4 It talks about that day when the lord shall return and it says the lord himself Go read revelation The skies are going to break the angels are going to sound trumpet I mean, it's going to be a great display of power and glory and jesus is going to be riding in And paul said it's the lord himself And call upon his name. Why don't we lift up our hands? Jesus we're calling on you Nobody has power like you Nobody has strength like you Hallelujah You can heal every disease You can drive out sickness you can deliver from addiction You can break free from the bondage of sin because there's power in the name of jesus Hallelujah, hallelujah, oh praise be to god Praise be to god Hallelujah, hallelujah Thank you lord So men and brethren What shall we do repent Be baptized in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins And receive the gift of the holy ghost for the promises unto you and your children and all that are a far off even as many as the lord our god shall call So if you if you've repented praise god If you've been baptized praise god Make sure it was in jesus name by immersion for the remission of sin If you've got the holy ghost praise god But we've got 106,000 reasons And a thousand soul revival I say we're well on the way, but let's not stop now Let's not stop now Lord jesus, I thank you for the family of god We've lifted up your name. We've glorified. We've gone to the word. I pray as we go We would go in the power of the spirit order our steps and the days to come Lead us to hungry and hurting people. I pray this weekend. There would be an outpouring of the holy ghost I pray the waters of baptism would be stirred even before we gather here again on sunday draw the hungry. I pray draw the hurting We ask this now in jesus name
