praise the Lord fac aren't you glad to be in the house of the Lord this morning come on aren't you glad to be in the house of the Lord today man what an honor and a privilege it is to be in the house of God with all of you he is right I am worn out man they say they got to say it in the country been rode hard and put up wet you know like man I feel it today my back's hurting and uh and I'm just tired but I'll tell you what it's one thing to be tired in your flesh but I am refreshed in the spirit because of all the amazing things that are happening here and we ought to be thankful for that amen amen before I jump into the word I do want to give honor to your pastoral family to the pastor and sister McCool Bishop sister McCool and all of their family aren't you thankful for them this morning what incredible Visionary leaders [Music] I looked over at Pastor McCool his Bishop came up to speak and I I said I looked at him I was thinking in my mind when I grow up I want to be as smooth as him you know it it's it says a lot about him that he's seen a lot of Trends come and go but he's still sensitive to the Holy Ghost and he built a team that is sensitive to the Holy Ghost and we built he built a church that is sensitive to the Holy Ghost and we ought to be thankful for that today amen and I give honor to my good friend I figured out yesterday as I was sitting there thinking or at the at the hotel I had a friend of mine come down from Virginia and a good friend that I'd grown up with and we got lunch and we were talking and doing different things and my friend Pastor Nate Whitley and sister Ashley they um I don't know if he if he's okay with me saying this and if he's not he can get over it but he's kind of like a big brother um because we're not quite peers because he's got a lot more wisdom and knowledge than I do but we left the UT campus on Thursday night and he spoke something into my life that as long as I've been preaching nobody has ever done and that he gave me direction because it's one thing to tell somebody they're doing a good job but it's another thing to direct their paths and I'm thankful for his friendship aren't you thankful for pastor Nate I am amen let's go to the word of the Lord I could spend all day doing this Jeremiah 17 hermano Joseph Perez had a good time with him Friday and brother uh where's my friends brother Dom we spent probably four hours together keeping brother Matthew humble and uh it was hard work I want to get paid extra for that but we had a good time doing it didn't we Brother Joseph man and I give honor to to Pastor Joseph Perez doing an incredible job with Primera Iglesia apostolica I mean I know enough Spanish to get me in trouble I went to a church a couple weeks ago and I greeted the congregation in Spanish because they have a Spanish group there and I was trying to encourage them so I greeted the congregation in Spanish and I ended in English by saying that's all I know well I've got to learn the phrase in Spanish that's all I know because someone walked up to me and gave me their entire testimony in Spanish after the service I didn't understand a word he said so I'm not going to do that today because I found out that gets you in trouble Jeremiah 17 the Bible says verses 1 and 2 the sin of Judah is written with a pin of iron and with the point of a diamond [Music] it is Graven upon the table of their heart and upon the horns of their altars whilst they'll children remember their altars and their Groves by the green trees and upon the high hills today God has sent me to do a specific purpose okay I've got one day left with you and then I've got to go back home and so I feel like this morning God wants to heal some people that's what I feel that he wants to do tonight we got another purpose but we're not going to skip today so this morning I want to preach to you for just a few minutes on the subject written on the heart written on the heart this is an Apostolic church that believes in the power of prayer I wonder if we could put our Bibles to our side and I want us to lift our hands and our voices together praying can we do that Lord we we do thank you for your wonderful blessings God we thank you for allowing us to come together in your house today Lord we believe that you've orchestrated all of these things so that you will get Glory but more so so that lives will be changed God I'm praying for the heart and the mind of every person or the sound of my voice or those that are watching online and I'm praying that you'll begin to plow up that fallow ground so that you could plant a seed that will Spring forth into a healed and everlasting life God we'd give you praise and we give you thanks in all things and everybody said in Jesus name before you're seated high five two or three people and tell them you're happy to see him this morning [Music] amen amen Theresa mummer said that things spoken can be forgotten and forgiven but the written word has the power to change the course of history and alter lives as we sit here today when we think of writing our minds will go somewhere into fictional writers such as the Great Gatsby or To Kill a Mockingbird Don Quixote or The Tale of Two Cities or even factual writing such as the Bible our minds will think of wordsmiths like Tolstoy or Hemingway or dostoyvesque these authors are some of the most well-known people in all of history with the most most known and most read works and while many of us unless you're a literary major in college or know much about that world we know very little about their lives but we know what they wrote while we may not know who they were married to we remember lines from books such as it was the best of times and it was the worst of times and as we as we read through their works we find that shirts of life of Love of happiness and even failure fear and regret their words will evoke emotion in our hearts and in the mind of the reader and that is where their power lies because their words will cause a heart-centered reaction or connection between what is written and what is read it's like each word is lifted up from the page as we read through it and it's inscribed on our hearts and when we look at our lives our lives are not all that dissimilar we have our own stories that are still being written we have our own lives that are still being lived for those that have lived several chapters or many chapters of their life moments will be remembered like stories from a novel we'll look back at the story of our lives and there will be moments etched in our memory we'll remember birthdays and parties we'll remember vacations births weddings Christmases and thanksgivings but we'll also remember death loss divorce sickness failure trauma defeat and problems and if you're like me it's as if the things that are bad far outweigh the things that are good if you're like me it'll be like looking back over your life and all you'll remember is glaring failure rather than subtle victory it seems like I remember those moments more than others why because those times those moments those places those people those words are etched in my heart it would be the Old Testament that would give us a picture of of the heart and it would say that the heart is the seat of emotion it's the part of us from which all feeling flows but it would be Jesus that would say that the heart is something that will direct our speech when he said that out of the abundance or the Overflow of the heart the mouth speaks it demonstrates to us that's what's in here will sooner or later come out of our mouth and if it comes out of our mouth it'll sooner or later dictate our Direction because if you have a heart that is overflowing with life you're going to Speak Life but if you have a heart that's overflowing with evil you're going to speak evil and we've often said of people well they have a good heart what we're looking at is not the heart we're looking at character traits and personality how do I know first Samuel chapter 16 the second part of verse 7 for the Lord seeth not as man saith for the man looketh on the outward appearance but the Lord looketh on the heart we we don't know the heart of people we don't know what they're feeling we don't know what they're thinking we don't know what emotions are bubbling up on the inside of them we only see their actions but you can decide to disguise an evil heart with good actions you can disguise an evil heart with smooth words but what you can hide from your fellow man you cannot keep hidden from God almighty because it's God that looks down in the middle of a terrible situation and sees through the facade that we put on or the mask that we put on and he can see past the smile he can see past the tears he can see past all of those things and he looks at the heart Jeremiah 17 and 9 said that the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked who can know it but the writer of proverbs every man every way of man is right in his own eyes but the Lord pondereth were ways he measures the hearts you see we don't know the heart of man but God does we don't see the heart of man but God sees I can't see what's sitting on the person sitting next to me although I may be able to see manifestations because I can see the tears that are cried but I'll never know the pain that they feel I can see the anger you see in counseling one of the things Pastor Nate said was my wife she's an incredible counselor and one of the things that she taught me is anger is what they call an umbrella emotion I will show anger to you but I may never see what's actually in your heart because somebody who's angry may not have a problem with anger the problem may be hurt their problem may be pain their problem may be trauma we see manifestations through tears through words but we may never fully understand what is written I thought about this portion of scripture today as I was getting ready for this sermon and I felt God tugging on my heart you see God doesn't speak head language he speaks heart language that's why it's so it's possible for you to get messed up and out of the will of God because God will put on the same place that your Earthly desires pull on the heart I've worked with so many people that will mistake God's will for what they actually desire I just feel God calling me here how do you know for sure well everything don't really line up and I I I but I really want to go it's because from the same place that God would pull but what we don't understand is as Jeremiah wrote to the entire nation of Judah to that entire tribe he would tell them that their sin is written on their heart with a pin of iron that has the tip of diamond he's not speaking a beauty there was someone that once said Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend y'all remember that are y'all too safe for that no okay I was making sure y'all like I wasn't always saved y'all you know I know some of y'all had to pray through after last night too soon too soon I'm a fan too so I get it you know it just I was like you know what we're going to be travailing today I don't know what it'll be about but we'll sure travel together praise God it's etched in your heart but I begin to think about how that when we look at that to us diamonds are beautiful but to them diamonds were a tool one portion of History would say that scribes would take a a a pin of iron that would have a diamond tip in the end of it that they've sharpened down so that they could go in and inscribe on tablets so that the tablets would never lose what is written what it's saying there it's not speaking to its beauty it's speaking to its hard properties it's speaking of its strength that what they're taking part in has the ability to etch into their heart something that they will never be able to polish away themselves that what they're doing that what they're where they're going the things that they're worshiping is taking a pin of iron with a tip of diamond and it's writing things on their heart that the human hand would never ever be able to get rid of because it would go on to say it's Graven on the table of their heart I know sometimes we feel like the things we've done or the things that's happened to you the problems that we faced that we can escape by our own will maybe if I take enough medication I can numb myself to it and I'm not against medication I think it's needed just like heart medication would be but I will tell you we can seek to numb the pain because some of us will self-medicate you may not like the bottle but you're not afraid of binge watching Netflix Pastor modes coming back home y'all got to get out of here this ain't good I'm sorry anything that I say that your pastor don't agree with he's right and I'm wrong just so you all know that until I go back to Wilmington and then I'm right again so that's how that works but we're okay to sit in front of something that will numb our mind to the point that we can't even think straight what are we doing we're self-medicating we're looking for a way of Escape because things that I have faced in my life have written things on my heart that though I try many things I can't get away from it though I take pills and though I watch these things and though I go to these places and I have all these relationships I still can't escape what's written here and I will tell you this it's sometimes it's not about what you did it could be what happened to you you see the sin of Judah I began to think about this and I I don't know if it's a hundred percent correct I could be completely wrong but I have a hard time believing that every person in the tribe of Judah was bad they could have been every one of them from the oldest to the youngest could have been evil I don't know for sure but I have a hard time believing that there wasn't at least one there but you notice when the Prophet Jeremiah wrote he wrote an indictment to the entire people sometimes it's not about what you've done it's about what's happened to you so I started I counseled a person that was very close to me through a divorce the person came to me the words out of his mouth as I'm leaving it's hard to argue with that I wish you'd have came to me sooner I wish we would have talked sooner because now I'm having to do something that I maybe could have taken care of with counsel and he looks at me and I start talking to him I start I I start trying to to just petition him to to pray and consider what he's about to do he kept on saying you just don't understand you just don't understand what I'm feeling you just don't understand what I'm going through and when I say this person was close it was a member of my family and I I looked at him and I really believe it was God because I'm not that smooth and I looked at him and I said you're only concerned with your drop in the pond but you don't think about the ripples that'll reach the shore we may not have been the drop in the middle of the body of water but our boat may have been caught up in the waves that reached the shore let me tell you today I'm not necessarily preaching to rank Sinners because if I am I'm one of them but what I'm preaching to is to people that maybe you're just uh what happened to you is just a matter of circumstance maybe what's taken place of your life in your life was at the hand of other people but I want you to join with me in thinking about this that it does not negate the fact that what they did has written something on your heart that you may try but you will never ever be able to escape from [Applause] it's written on the table of your heart but that's not the only place the prophet would say it's inscribed on the horns of their altars what's in your heart will affect your worship I walk in you're not singing my song I'm not a part of the band I'm not on the praise team I'm not in the choir and rather than having a personal relationship with God that's good enough for me to sit in the Pew and worship I sit in the pew and I fold my arms why you we're looking at symptoms when we see that but it's the symptoms of a heart issue it's not a head issue it's a heart issue because if I had a good relationship with God I'm going to get into this in just a second but if I had a right relationship with God it would not matter how I felt when I walked in I would be able to lift up my hands with the understanding of my problems may be great but God is still good my problems may be strong but my God is still stronger no matter what I'm going through I can still lift up holy hands [Applause] it'll come out in your worship but it'll also come out on how you serve I would never hang out with someone that when I'm working with them in the church they look at me and say what do you think about Pastor Nate talk about Pastor McCool what do you think about so and so when they start speaking those words to you that person has a malignant heart it's not about what they're speaking it's about what's on the inside because remember what we said if they're saying those things those things are already present here and let me tell you God wants to work on your lips on what you're saying he wants to work on your mind on what you're thinking but before he ever gets to what you say or to what you think he's got to get to your heart God's got to change the inside before the outside will ever manifest God's going to change the inside before my walk will get better or my talk will get better [Applause] and I thought about something else I'm going to be done very soon we try to do what Judah did you know the wisest man to ever live talking about the law of the father would say to bind it on your fingers and write it on the table of your heart he would say that in Proverbs we'll try to do what Judah did and we'll live the law to the best of our abilities give me rules pastor I can follow rules I don't necessarily need a relationship because I know what to do I know what to wear I know what to say and I know who to say it to but Romans 8 and 3. what the law couldn't do in that it was weak in the flesh do you know living a life that is after the law will lead to a Heart of Stone and it'll lead to something that cannot handle the trials of life you want to know why you struggle with Holiness after everything falls apart because you were living rules and not relationship you want to know why you're struggling with coming to church when that person that you love left you want to know why because you were living the law and you weren't living in relationships because relationship tells me that though I walk through a valley of the shadow of death I don't have to fear any evil but rules tell me hey they should have had it all together they looked holy they lived holy they talked no no no let me tell you what relationship will do relationship will put you in a place that law will never put you it'll put you on your face at times but there will be times where you'll be lifted up your hands worshiping and praising God we need relationship this morning we need relationship but let me tell you what relationship is not it is not a blank check to do whatever you want that's one of the biggest lies based on the religious world today is cheap Grace theology that I can go wherever I want to go and do whatever I want to do oh but what did Paul say that we don't use this Liberty for an occasion of the flesh I don't use this Liberty to walk in my feelings I don't use this Liberty to say what I want to say or go where I want to go I use this Liberty to walk in Christ I use this Liberty to live a life of the spirit [Applause] I'm almost done I thought about it we need relationship I thought about how that God would indict Judah I thought about how that God would indict his bloodline you go through Judah to get to Jesus and what he was saying he used the prophet to speak it Jeremiah would talk about it you see the law what it would do is it give him another year let me kill this whatever sheep I'm going to kill this sheep and then we're going to get another year and we're gonna go kill it again God knew through his progression of Covenants that there would have to be one that would fulfill them all you see God doesn't want to erase what's on your heart he wants to give you a new one he said in Ezekiel 36 a new heart also will I give you a new spirit will I put within you and watch what he says and I will take the Stony heart of your flesh and I will give you a heart of Flesh he doesn't want to erase what's been done because he could the Potter the the the clay was marred in the hands of the Potter and he he he literally pushed it down so that he could get it to an un uh something that was without form so he could create it again that's not what he wants to do in you he wants to put a new heart in you he says I will give you a heart of Flesh a heart that can feel a heart that's designed for relationship and not rules a heart that no longer has those things of your past etched in stone upon it behold the days will come Jeremiah 31 saith the Lord that I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel with the house of Judah he jumped to verse 33 but this shall be the Covenant after those days saith the Lord I will put my law on their inward parts I will write it in their hearts God wants to do something in your heart today but he doesn't just want to erase what's there he wants to put something there that is almost without form he wants to put something new in you so that he can write on it because what he writes is different than what's my what my problem writes what he writes on my heart is different than what my circumstances wrote it's different from the trauma that I'd experienced as a kid it's different from the pain that I'm feeling in divorce it's different from what I experience in the world what he wants to give you is real relationship not this superficial thing that I'm just living right now he wants to give you something that's not just going to get you through today but that's going to get you through tomorrow next week and even next year he wants to put something inside of you that is going to be etched in your memory and etched in your heart and what he wants to give you is not done he wants to take away all of the depression and he wants to give you Joy he wants to take away all of the turmoil and he wants to give you peace that passes all understanding man let me tell you today what the what the world is put on your heart God wants to take it and he wants to write the fruit of the spirit there peace Joy love he wants to ride it in your heart as the musicians come second Corinthians 3 and 3 for as much as you are manifestly declared to be in the Epistle of Christ ministered by US Written not with ink but with the spirit of the Living God not in tables of stone he already did that oh he gave those to Moses and Moses carried him down and people looked at him and he said read these do these and live God wants to give you a Moses experience where you walk into his presence and he writes something on your heart that'll never fade away that when the problems of this life get strong when the waves try to take over my boat when the problems get great that I can look and I can hold on to because it's written in my heart as we stand to our feet Hebrews 8 and 10. for this is the Covenant that will that I will make with the house of Israel after those days I love Covenants I believe in Covenants marriage is a covenant I really like them because they speak to something deeper I will put my laws into their minds and I will write them in their hearts you need to live for God in a way that's no longer based on rules you know this is where I get real y'all my notes are done so I'm an Apostolic pastor I have an Apostolic church that preaches and teaches Holiness and lifestyle and living Inward and out our churches are not dissimilar they're very alike I preach it I teach it if you want to be involved you have to look the part because there's something that can be said about that but I know so many people friends of mine that grew up looking right living right I myself said on a pew brother Ellard remembers these days I was leading worship at stuff and acting like a heathen I was an apathetic Apostolic more like pathetic because I would sit on a Pew every service I'd listen to my pastor preach I'd get up there and sing oh my goodness would I give it all I got founded it and if you look at people were to look at me they'd be like oh Evan's got a good heart they never saw what was on the inside they didn't see the guy struggling with addiction why I could put a suit on and hide it if I bought if I button my top button the button's a little mad at me but I look more like a preacher right I could cover it up with a suit with a shirt with a tie I could walk in I could lead worship I could go sit down and act like I'm paying attention but my mind being Fiji I wish my body was there right now it's cold here y'all but then something happened I'm Gary share a little too much so if this makes you uncomfortable plug your ears okay I was sharing with brother Matthew yesterday and brother Dom and Brother Joseph that I I had a lot of girlfriends growing up a lot you know I met my wife she was the first girl I never cheated on I know you are like good God it's true God gave me like literally Divine contentment when I met her because I was working seven on and seven off so seven nights of 12-hour shifts and I'd be like I don't feel like going to church today she'd call me and be like hey you go to church this morning I'd get up I'd get ready I'd go to church foreign could be produced and it was a real relationship with God you know how she did it by living it she walked in it I remember one time I was talking to her about something that that I did when I was young she looked at me and said it doesn't sound like you're letting the grace of God work in your life my God are you a pastor she is she's the pastor of our church really but I'll be honest that whole saying fake it till you make it [Music] that's a fictitious statement I don't want to fake this I don't want a fake happiness I don't want a fake Joy you know why I felt it I felt real peace I felt real Joy I don't want to take something from the world that it can take back from me at any moment because I felt the joy that sin will give you and do you know why it only lasts for a season because when everything gets rough the world will come and take it [Music] but when God gives you something when God touches your heart when God moves on you it's something when the it's this old song and it's so cliche but it's so true when God gives it there's no circumstance that can take it away there's no there's no worldly ordinance that can take it away politicians can't touch it sickness can't touch it why because it comes from a Divine place and it's written on my heart [Music] you say well you're a pastor now yeah I am it's harder now than it's ever been [Music] Friday day I hung out with those guys I went back to the hotel so tired I preached Wednesday morning Wednesday night Thursday morning Thursday night Friday morning five times in three days did a podcast so pretty much I preached six times you know when I went home I was tired you know what happens when I'm tired I'm weak you know what I would have did when I was a teenager I'd have pulled out my phone and I'd looked up pornography I know y'all don't like that word and we want to act like it don't exist but it does the average age of exposure is eight now kids their age are having less sex but if you knew why it's because they're looking at more pornography than they've ever looked at so I'm not afraid to tell you that God delivered me of it you know why because when I was weak that's where I would go for joy a t an Apostolic teenager but you know where I go now I learn new habits because God Almighty he came down and he took let me tell you pornography will etch some things in your heart that your physical hands can never get rid of but when the good oh I'm telling you I feel the Holy Ghost when the Holy Ghost comes down it'll work on you and it'll put in a new heart that it'll etch some things there that things of this world cannot take away from you foreign [Applause] and you know what I did on Friday I didn't do what I used to do I got down beside my bed and I started praying until I felt the sweet presence of God and I felt a supernatural I might have been still been tired in my body but let me tell you though my body was weak my spirit was strong because I figured out what would give me life it's not the things that etch bad things on my heart it's the thing that it's Joy there that will put peace there that will put strength there and it's God Almighty and it's the Holy Ghost [Applause] I want us to raise our hands together oh God yeah [Music] in the name of Jesus I feel the Holy Ghost in This Place I feel the Holy Ghost in This Place right now God wants to write something new on your heart this morning he wants to remove the heart that's got pain on it and he wants to put a heart that's got peace he wants to remove the heart that's struggling with depression and he wants to put Joy there foreign together [Music] come on that's it keep coming keep coming I'm going to give everybody time [Music] the praise team is going to sing in just a second they're not up here just for looks even though they do make me look better okay [Music] like a stand-up comedian I just do it for the laughs Pastor name [Music] it's okay God's got a sense of humor have you seen me dude I'm preaching so good to dogs gonna get the Holy Ghost y'all watch out a prophetic yes Lord two of them praise God Hallelujah people are still coming I'm going to give him time I'm going to tell you the dangers that we run into in moments like these [Music] that we can miss what God wants to do because what will happen is we'll come to an altar and I poured my heart out to you and I'm not telling you this because I think you're going to get a move of God because I preached I know you're going to get a move of God because when we are real about ourselves and about what God wants to do he will confirm his word the Bible doesn't it doesn't say that these signs shall follow them that believe for just any reason is to confirm his ability okay so here's what I want us to do you know I'm not going to have you come up here and raise your hand if you're dealing with divorce or if you're struggling God's a gentleman I don't think God ever wants us to be pointed out in that way this is what I think I really believe with all my heart that men and women all across this place now listen I'm a guy you're like well yeah but you talk about your feelings maybe you should too you think it makes me less of a man that I talk about my feelings I would argue it makes me more of a man because you keep stuff on the inside that you should talk about and I'll go to heaven with a clear heart but you'll go to hell with everything hidden yeah yeah all right [Music] [Applause] and we get all excited we get all excited about physical healing I believe in physical healing Jason Staton after I preached a sermon he said you know what you can go to you can go to heaven with a bad heart physically but spiritually you cannot because we'll hold on to bitterness and bitterness will put us in hell yeah we'll hold on to hurt and hurdle keep us from the promise we might feel right but as I said the other night is it righteous and there's what I want us to do I want us to lift our hands together they're going to begin singing in a minute but when they start singing I don't want you to quit praying but for now praise team musicians let's lift our hands together everybody all across this place and I want us to begin to pray right now in the name of Jesus God I stand on the power of the authority of your word and the power and the authority that is in your name I pray right now that as we relinquish those things to you as I give you the hurt let the Holy Ghost sweep through this house let it begin to move upon us let it begin to heal let it begin to move come on that's it I want you to keep praying right now in the name of Jesus come on that's it lift up your hands and lift up your voice God is moving on some people it's not I know I know you might feel Justified but you got to give it to God if you give it to God just wait and see what he'll do through you here come on that's it that's it that's it the Holy Ghost is moving right now come on he's moving on you he's moving on you [Music] boys come on that's it he's moving he's moving keep on praying just for another minute [Applause] [Music] [Applause] come on he wants to touch you today [Music] he wants to heal you today [Music] [Applause] [Music] come on he wants to heal you [Music] Jesus at the center of it all come on he's moving [Music] [Applause] real quick they're getting ready to start singing again but here's what I want us to do I want us to begin to pray together I want us to pray for one another there's something that happens when Apostolic people get together and begin to pray maybe you got a spouse that you need to pray with maybe it's a sister or brother whatever it is I want us to hold hands put our arms around each other whatever it is I want us to link up come on find somebody to pray with maybe you see someone standing alone why don't you go pray with them real quick come on that's it the prayers of a righteous man Avail as much it was talking about restoration I want you to pray that God will begin to restore their heart right now come on fac lifts up your voice with me restore their heart come on that's it that's it restore their heart restore their hearts of Jesus feet [Music] from beginning to the end it will always be it's always been to you Jesus Jesus for Nothing Else Matters [Applause] nothing in this world will do in this world will do [Music] everything revolves around you Jesus you nothing else matters nothing in this world will do thank you [Music] for Jesus you're the center and everything revolves around you
