you would be so kind to stand with me tonight in honor of the reading of the word of god invite your attention to the book of revelation chapter number two verse number one through seven i greet you tonight in the name of jesus christ the name that is above every name the bible says that neither is there salvation in any other well there's no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved how many are glad you've been water baptized in that name tonight thank god thank god i've been water baptized in that name i love you with the love of the lord tonight so thankful to see everyone here god is definitely up to something and doing something and the shout of a king is among us there's just a tremendous spirit tremendous spirit it's here and where the spirit of the lord is there is liberty and i appreciate the goodness of god appreciate it yes i'm here oh yes yes yes thank you lord thank you god thank you god just lift up your hands right now oh yes god thank you for speaking to us lord lord we we know you're here god let us never take your presence for granted god lord your hand is upon us and underneath us and around us god oh yes god give him praise right now just love him right now oh yes thank you lord thank you lord such a wonderful apostolic church such a wonderful apostolic church apostolic is more than just doctrine it's practice what happened last sunday night was truly apostolic it's truly apostolic it was apostolic in the way that they that had provided for those that lacked so that the kingdom of god could go forward was truly truly apostolic what just happened with tongues in interpretation is truly truly apostolic tonight the book of revelation chapter 2 verse 1 unto the angel of the church at ephesus write these things sayeth he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks i know thy works and thy labor and thy and how thou canst not bear them which are evil and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles and are not and has found them liars and has borne and has patience and for my name's sake has labored and has not fainted nevertheless i have somewhat against thee because thou has left thy first love remember therefore from whence thou art fallen and repent do the first works or else i will come unto thee quickly and will remove thy candlestick out of his place except thou repent but this thou hast that thou hatest the deeds of the nicolaitans which i also hate he that hath an ear let him hear what the spirit saith unto the churches to him that overcometh will i give to edem the tree of life which is in the midst of the paradise of god i'd like to extract two phrases from this pet from these passages and i'd like to preach to the church on this sunday evening and please remember please remember this coming wednesday night we'll be moving our wednesday night service to first apostolic church in knoxville 5020 pleasant ridge road we'll be moving our midweek there to begin the camp meeting that uh wednesday night at 7 30. it's wednesday night thursday night and friday night thursday during the day and friday during the day the bible says as the end of time approaches to have more church not less church and so why don't you add some services to your schedule this week but i want to preach just for a few moments first love and first work first love and first work pray with me please father lord our spirits have been lifted up with the praise and worship tonight lord as we lifted up praise and glory and songs and musical instruments lord we entertained your presence and you came down and danced upon the top of our heads lord you lifted weary spirits and turned them into dancing lord you come down god upon the troubled and caused them to triumph tonight lord now we receive your word god we open our hearts to your word lord help me to feed this church god you are doing something extraordinary with this congregation i thank you tonight father anoint my heart touch my body tonight jesus name amen why don't you give the lord a hand to praise before you see he is addressing the churches in the book of revelation he comes to the church at ephesus it's an interesting it's an interesting church you will remember with me that the church started or was started by the apostle paul in the 19th chapter of the book of acts when paul found certain of john's disciples and he knew something was missing for he asked this question have you received the holy ghost since you believed of course they said they have not heard whether there be any holy ghost he asked them well then how were you baptized they said unto john's baptism and he said well that's the reason john's baptism was valid only up to the day of pentecost pentecost the church was birthed they were to be baptized now in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins and attached to that baptism brother salinas was the promise of the gift of the holy ghost so the church had its beginnings there in the 19th chapter of acts it's believed that later timothy was the pastor of the church at ephesus we know that the book of ephesians that was written to them stresses the need for unity one lord one faith one baptism one body one god all through the book of ephesians you read were the hammering blows or that the church is one church and it is it is unified evidently some time later when the resurrected christ would reveal himself and show that he was walking in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks symbolically these candlesticks represent the church you will under you will understand and clearly see that he is walking among the seven golden candlesticks sounds like to me that he's comfortable i always want the lord to be at home when we gather to have church i always want him to be walking among the seven golden candlesticks of the church then he makes the statement that he's got the the angels the stars in his right hand of course these angels or messengers are the pastors the spiritual leader of the church and he tells them that i'm walking among the church and i have i have the pastors i have them i have them in my hand i have them in my control that that hand would represent that he has control of the pastor he has control of the pastor in his hand no man ought to walk to a pulpit and start preaching but what sometime earlier he's knelt down and asked god to give him a word he should never come to a pulpit with his word it should come to the pulpit with god's word should find a quiet place kneel down and ask god to drop a thought into his mind of what the church would need the lord the resurrected christ here begins to examine the church at ephesus he praises them from most of the things they are they're apostolic they're hard-working they they they won't bear up with immorality um they patience and they emphasize his name but then he comes to a part that seems to negate all that he said because then he says i have somewhat against you i have something against you you know i started out trying to make a hundred 99 just won't do you can have that long list of everything you're doing right church at ephesus but that small phrase i have somewhat against you i have somewhat against you because you have left your first love you have left you're active you have strong apostolic doctrine you have strong morals but he says you have left your first love he tells them how to correct this he says i want you to remember i want you to remember i'm telling you memory is a wonderful thing i want you to remember i want you to remember how you have fallen i want you to repent and then he adds another he says and do the first works over now there are many good sincere people that are sincerely wrong with first works they believe that that refers to water baptism and that when they fall or backslide they should come back to the church and be baptized again well there's a number of reasons why that's not so baptism is not a work we are not saved by works baptism is an opportunity that's given to us to obey he tells them to repent and to do the first works first love first works and then he tells them because he knows human nature he tells them that if this does not happen that he would come and remove thy candlestick out of its place think about it i will take you out of my presence i will no longer walk among you i will no longer have an angel in my hand a messenger to speak to you and lead you so it's extremely serious what jesus the resurrected christ is saying here if you don't do this if you don't do this i'll remove you i'll remove you i'll remove you out of the place i'll remove you i begin to think about first love what is first love the first love of living for god is to want to be a witness for jesus christ i am glad for the gifts of the spirit i'm glad for what happened tonight i'm glad for the spiritual ecstasy that we feel when we sing songs and worship god and sometimes so weary but there's just a spring that gets in your step and before you know it you find yourself right down in the midst of them shouting and praising god but god didn't save us so that we would be known as a shouting church he didn't save us so that we would be known as a talented church but he saved us so that we would reach something he loves and that's the lost that's the loss it is our first love it is our first love to reach the lost acts chapter 1 verse 4. simply says and being assembled together with them commanded them that they should not depart from jerusalem but wait for the promise of the father which sayeth he you have heard of me for john truly baptized with water but you shall be baptized with the holy ghost not many days hence when they therefore were come together they ask of him saying lord will thou at this time restore again the kingdom to israel now jesus is talking about the birth of a church the birth of something that would change the world that they have that human inclination to be selfish they've been under roman domination for a long time and so they almost interrupt him as if to say is this when you're going to turn it back over to us is this when we're going to have the yoke of roman domination broke from off of our back he said unto them it is not for you to know the times or the seasons which the father have put in his own power he said that's not your business to know that's not your business to know but you shall receive power after that the holy ghost has come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me in jerusalem and in all judea and sumerian to the uttermost part of the earth can i just stop here this is not in my notes to say this tonight but we have got so many people trying to figure out when the lord's coming at the neglect of being a witness for jesus christ we've got people that are interested in saving their own hide and they don't understand the mission that god has for the church the first love is to reach a lost and a dying world to be a witness for jesus christ you don't have to sing my song you don't have to play my special thing i don't have to have my special seat i don't have to even enjoy the service but if somebody could just reach out and catch the loss but you shall receive power after that the holy ghost has come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me both in jerusalem judea samaria to the uttermost parts of the word witnesses now when we hear the word witness we think about a courtroom we think about being a witness to testify of the fact and a small part of that word is being a witness that testifies of a fact but it is far more than a witness in a courtroom testifying to a fact as you begin to see the word and the meaning of the word the word has with it to be a martyr to give someone's life you see people are not going to be moved so much by what we say but by how we live it's how the church lives that changes a community not what we say we can be strong in apostolic doctrine and i can have the gift and the tongue that i can explain there's only one god and totally put to silence anyone that says more than one god but what good is that if we neglect our first love of reaching the laws reaching the lost has the word martyr to it the first martyr in the bible was a man by the name of stephen stephen had been anointed to be a deacon but stephen finds himself doing more than taking lunches to widows he finds himself in the seventh chapter of the book of acts before a council and there he begins to preach to them starting with abraham isaac and jacob he comes all the way down in acts chapter 7 verse number 54 he evidently hit a nerve with the saint with the council evidently they were agreeing with him up to this point until he mentioned jesus christ and it dawned on that counsel that this man is about to tell us of jesus christ when they heard these things they were cut to the heart and they gnashed on him with their teeth but he being full of the holy ghost looked up steadfastly into heaven saw the glory of god and jesus standing on the right hand of god and he said behold i see the heavens opened the son of man standing on the right hand of god then they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and ran upon him with one accord can i tell you something being a witness is not how you act when they agree with you but being a witness is how we act when they don't agree with us they dashed on him with their teeth but in the midst of their anger god opened up a door of revelation and stephen looked up into heaven and he saw the role of a mediator he saw the son of man not the son of god he saw the son of man standing on the right hand of god not at the right hand of god he saw him standing on the right hand of god of course if you go putting body parts to this you've got one more configuration to try to explain stephen looked up into heaven and he saw the role of a mediator he saw the son of man jesus christ standing at the right on the right hand of god and then he said it he said i see the heavens open and i see jesus the son of man standing on the right hand and then that infuriated them even more they clapped their hands over their ears and they ran upon him with one accord in verse 58 and cast him out of the city and stoned him and the witnesses laid down their clothes at the young man's feet whose name was saul and they stoned stephen calling upon god and saying lord jesus received my spirit he knelt down and cried with a loud voice lord lay not this sin to their charge and when he had said this he fell asleep i submit to you he did not change them with his sermon but i believe that he touched saul's heart with the way that he lived and the way that he died i believe that young pharisee that was holding the coats of the men that were stoning stephen i see saul walking in a cocky arrogant way as he's holding go ahead boys and stone that blasphemer go ahead boys and stone that blasphemer i'll hold hit your coats lay em right here bub i'll hold his coat but all of a sudden saul is going to have something that will rock his world he's going to watch as this young man doesn't flinch from the rocks this young man that doesn't try to run or hide simply looks up into heaven and says i see the glory of god i see jesus christ and they begin to pelt him with stones they begin to throw the stones but i watched paul in my mind i watched paul in my mind as he watched this young man dropped to his knees and he watches this young man as this young man does not spew hate he does not spew venom but he says lord would you forgive them for what they're doing right now and don't lay this sin to their charge brothers and sisters tonight it's not the track we take it's the life that we live that's what's going to change come on give him praise right now i believe with all my heart in the eight in the ninth chapter of the book of acts when this same hard-hearted pharisee saul and the bible says in acts chapter one verse number nine or excuse me chapter nine verse number one saul yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the lord went under the high priest desired of him letters to damascus to the synagogues that if he found any of this way whether they were men or women he might bring them bound to unto jerusalem could we all accept tonight don't you think that rocked paul's world don't you think he went home that night his sister carpenter had a little trouble falling to sleep you believe that can you hear the conversation when the other pharisees get together did you actually hear him saying that he saw jesus can you believe that what a deceived man he is and then he was crazy who would ever pray that we would be forgiven i think it should be i think god used the martyr of stephen to purchase the life of paul he was traveling in verse three and as he journeyed he came near damascus and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven and he fell to the earth this is paul now and heard a voice saying unto him saul saul while persecutest thou me and watch this please and he said who art thou lord and the lord said i am jesus whom the persecutest it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks and he trembling and astonish said lord what will you have me to do and the rest is history we have over half the new testament bible we have an apostle paul that evangelized the then known world but i don't think it began on the i don't think it began on the on the road to damascus i think something got planted in him when he held the coats as they stoned stephen just like i believe something gets planted in the hearts of your co-workers by not what you say to them at work but how you live before them at work there ought to be something about apostolic people we ought to be the best employees in town we ought to have the reputation of the amish it ought to be man if you hire one of those apostolic folks they're going to be on time they're not going to be cheating the time clock they're going to give you a good day's work they're gonna man you i don't understand the the way they didn't present god's baptism but i'll tell you what them some hard-working true telling may it never be said that an apostolic person is among decisions in the workplaces in blount county but it may be said that we're among the peacekeepers that's extra that that only that wasn't even part of my notes let it be said let it be said the apostolic people don't understand their doctrine listen you get them church i can put the doctrine in them but they're probably never going to come if you don't plant a seed in them you know what that seed is don't you listen to listen to jesus in john 13 34 john 13 34. jesus said a new commandment i give unto you stop talking to me about ten commandments there's not ten commandments there are eleven commandments a new commandment i give unto you that you love one another as i have loved you that you also love one another by this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you have loved one toward another you know how we're going to have an unprecedented revival in our city do you know how that we're going to have an unbelievable revival of harvest of souls that in the near future i'll prophesy and tell you we're going to be putting folding chairs out again we're going to be getting to church early again because the congress filled up and we're going to be putting chairs if god could do it up on the hill god can do it down here but it's not about building big buildings it's about the first love it's about reaching a lost world but they'll never believe us if we don't have love one toward another solomon builds an unbelievable temple that people want to come and see in the 10th chapter of first kings in the first verse the bible says and when the queen of sheba 1st kings 10 and 1 and when the queen of sheba heard of the fame of solomon concerning the name of the lord she came to prove him with hard questions she came to jerusalem with a very great train with camels that bear spices and very much gold and precious stones and when she was come to solomon she communed with him of all that was in her heart solomon told her all her questions there was not anything hid from the king which he told her not when the queen of sheba had seen all of solomon's wisdom and the house that he had built the meat of his table the sitting of his servants the attendants of his ministers and their apparel and his cupbearers and his ascent by which he went up into the house of the lord there was no more spirit in her the hebrew here says that she passed out or we would know it brother name me as being slain in the spirit when she came and saw the people that were carrying dishes through solomon's temple when she saw the apparel of the ushers she saw the apparel of the choir when she saw all the attendants and then when she watched as solomon said come go with me to the house of god and i could see old solomon taking his crown off his head because when you get in the house of god there's only one king in this house i can see solomon having a little table before you go into the temple and he takes off the crown off his head and he takes off his kingly robe and he says now sheba queen this is where i worship my god this is where i serve and i worship my god but listen to her now verse 6 and she said to the king it was a true report that i heard in my own land of thy action of thy wisdom i heard about this i heard about the choir i heard about all the dinners i heard about the plates i heard about the attendance how be it i believe not the words until i came and mine eyes have seen it and behold the have was not told me i only received half the report i only received the the apparel i received the attendance i received what the house looked like but i only received half was told me come on queen tell me what the other half was thy wisdom and the prosperity exceeded the fame which i heard come on tell me more happy are thy men happy are these thy servants which stand continually before thee and that hear thy thy wisdom you know what she looked around she had heard that the place was covered with gold she had heard about the choir she had heard about the plates and the attendants she had heard about the apparel she had heard about the grand door of the house but what she had not been told was that the servants in the house of god were happy people they were not beat down they were not backbiting and hating and drudgery and they didn't look like they hated to be there and they wanted to go she said they're happy in this house they're happy to come can i tell you something you are an evangelist tonight to every guest that comes into this place do you have a smile on your face do you look like you're happy to be here god help us that we reach our first love happy happy happy jesus has been crucified rose from the dead john 21 15 he appears to them on the lake and the bible says john 21 15 so when they had dined jesus saith to simon peter simon son of jonas levest thou me more than these he's talking about the fish he saith unto him yea lord thou knowest that i love thee he said unto him feed my sheep feed my lambs verse 16 jesus said to him again the second time simon son of jonas love us thou me he saith in him yea lord thou knowest that i love thee jesus said unto him feed my sheep he saith unto him the third time simon son of jonah loveth thou me peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time and i'd say if this went very much father sister jeter jesus might have said you denied me three times let's find out if you loved me three times he said to him the third time you loved me peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time believeth thou me he said in him lord thou knowest all things thou knowest that i love thee jesus said unto him feed my sheep verily verily i say unto thee peter when thou was young thou gerdest thyself and walketh wither thou wouldest when you were young you had all the freedom you wanted but when thou shalt be old thou shall stretch forth thine hands and another shall gird thee and carry thee whither thou wouldest not this they key signifying by what death he should glorify god and when he had spoken this he said unto him follow me he said i'm telling you peter you had a lot of freedom in your young days but a day will come they will arrest you they will chain you up and they will take you and crucify you just like they did me follow me this is how you're going to glorify me in death here's the here's the clincher too many of us get robbed of victory and being used because we got our nose in other people's business it ain't fair what i'm going through it ain't fair this you know something tonight god don't call you by twos he calls you individually he said to peter follow thou me but peter couldn't let it rest then peter turning about seeth the disciple whom jesus loved following which also leaned on his breast at supper and said lord which is he that betrayeth thee peter's seeing him say it to jesus lord what shall this man do boy don't you don't you just feel the warmth in that not what my brother do but yes man what would this man there you tell me i'm going to get crucified upside down as old john always got his head right on your breast his old john over there your old brother suck-ups over there i mean he's always got his head laying on your breast what's he gonna do do you know we get paralyzed in our effectiveness when we start comparing ourselves among ourselves what will this man do can i tell you the person sitting beside you if they're a man they're not a male they're your brother we are not cold participants that attend a building we are family so most familia we are family you've got to understand i don't care how pretty you are i don't care how all together you've got it i don't care how degreed you are how wealthy you are how smart you think you are you are brother to him that don't have an education you are sister to him that doesn't even have a place to lay his head down we are family lord what is this man going there jesus saith unto him if i will that he tarry till i come what is that to thee follow thou me can i give you the krc version nunya none your business if i let him live till i come again none your business what happens with somebody else none ya follow him that's the key if i let him live telecom you follow thou me then went this saying abroad among the brethren that he that that disciple should not die yet jesus said not unto him he shall not die but if i will that he tarry till i come what is that to thee follow me i don't feel the love here between peter and john do you i don't feel the connectedness here what is this man going to do let me tell you we'll never convince a world we love them if we can't love one another we're nothing but cheap silk flowers in a real floor shop you just got to get close enough to find out we're not what we say we are i don't feel the love here do you can you warm up to me tonight a little bit take it easy on the old man tonight can you do you feel the love between this man and this man didn't call him john this man can i tell you what we need when you and i get sideways together can i tell you what we need we need a trip to the upper room because in acts chapter 1 verse number 13 let's look at the list that's the upper room waiting for the outpouring of the pentecost the spirit of god the first act in acts chapter 1 verse number 13. now when they were coming in they went up into an upper room we're abode both peter there's peter james and john so we got them in acts 1 we got peter and that man in the same room we got peter and that man in the upper room acts two and one and when the day of pentecost was fully come they were all at one accord in one place suddenly there came a sound from heaven as a rushing mighty wind it filled all the house where they were sitting there appeared unto them clothing tons like his fire he set up on each of them and they were all filled with the holy ghost that means peter got the holy ghost and john got the holy ghost they were of different spirits in john 21 they were of different spirits in acts 1 13 but when the holy ghost came they all had the same spirit within them peter had the spirit of god and john had the spirit of god that's why the first miracle in the new testament church in acts 3 goes like this now peter and john went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer being the hour of the hour of prayer a certain man lame from his mother's womb was there and peter said shivering gold i have a nun but such as i have give i thee in the name of jesus can i tell you separate we do nothing for god but put us together and we can cause the you need your brother you need your sister we need one another my god we need to love each other tonight i got animosity in my heart with you brother no work of the spirit's going to get done but if you and i can get somewhere and get full of the holy ghost together we'll go get a crippled man raise him to his feet because that's what a church that's unified can do can i tell you in closing tonight and closing tonight joseph who's the old testament he's old testament type of jesus christ joseph's down in egypt needs somebody to go get his daddy his brothers genesis 45 and 13 pharaoh hears that joseph's family needs to be brought into egypt genesis 45 19 musicians please come listen to pharaoh now thou art commanded this do ye take you wagons out of the land of egypt for your little ones for your wives bring your father and come look at verse 20 with me church pharaoh says and regard not your old stuff said don't even bring any of that junk with you leave your furniture in the house don't even bring any of that junk with you i'm sending semis the equivalent the equivalent of semis i'm sending wagons after you i'm sending wagons don't don't bring that old don't bring that old broke down couch don't bring that old chair that's not level don't bring that old warped frying pan don't even regard your stuff for the good of all the land of egypt is yours the children of israel did so joseph typology of jesus gave them wagons typology of the church according to the commandment of pharaoh and gave them provision for the way to all of them he gave each man changes of raiment but to benjamin he gave 300 pieces of silver five changes of raymond can i tell you something your value tonight is not that you have more than me we're all loved equally by god a man's value is not in his checkbook man's value is that god loves him benjamin somehow gets more than the rest of the brothers and to his father he sent after this manner ten asses laden with good things in egypt ten she asses laden with corn bread meat for his brother for his father by the way so joseph sent his brethren away and they departed you see joseph he's standing there in egypt his brother's got wagons and animals late i mean i mean just unbelievable wealth going on a mission going on a mission to bring his family back but joseph knew verse 24 so he sent his brethren away and they departed and he said unto them see that you fall not out by the way he knew man they never had what they've got right now reuben's never had levi's never had they've never had what they've got right now brothers don't get to arguing along the way don't get sidetracked from your mission don't don't get sidetracked by what i'm sending you to do i'm sending you to bring my family back to me i want to see my daddy there's a there's an old man that's going to die because he believes that he sent his 17 year old boy to go check on sheep jacob has blamed himself for the death of joseph for years that old man has sobbed he's looked out over a hill and thought that was the last time i saw joseph he's held a coat that was smeared with goat's blood and believed that it was joseph don't spoil that please don't fall out by the way and when they went up out of egypt and came into the land of canaan under jacob their father and told him and saying joseph is alive he's yet alive and he is governor over all the land of egypt jacob's heart fainted for he believed them not and they told him all the words of joseph which he had said unto them and when he saw the wagons which joseph had sent to carry him the spirit of jacob their father revived and israel said it is enough joseph my son is yet alive i will go see him can you imagine for the salyards that old man when they came in the house and they said daddy joseph's alive he's the governor i don't believe you you're crazy what you boys been drinking what in the world is wrong with you yo you're you this is the sickest joke that i've ever heard in my life don't do this to me daddy joseph's of life he's he's a governor of egypt i don't believe you you cruel brothers you you cruel sons of mine but all of a sudden jacob looked over the hill and he saw wagon after wagon after wagon after wagon and daddy that's coming for you daddy that's coming for you then the bible said his spirit revived he said he's alive he's alive he's alive there's many so many people in this city that has given up on religion there are so many people in this city that have signed church cards they've went to churches they've tried every program but they've never met up with an apostolic true church and we're trying to tell them but they're saying oh i've tried churches before i've tried all kind of churches but if we can get together with the wagons if we won't fall out by the way we'll be able to say it is alive there is a church stay with me right now you know what the first work is we got to love one another we got to love one another oh god help us to love one another god oh god oh god help us to love one another god god i'm not interested in a phony relationship but i'm not interested in a plastic relationship god i'm not interested in just going to a building with people and calling them my brother god we've got to get together this is the last day we've got to do the first lives reach reach reach reach reach lost every stranger you you meet every stranger you meet you ought to be have a baited tongue you ought to be waiting for a moment to to slip in a word i'll tell you it's not your bumper sticker going to get them to come to church you can have the fish you can have all that stuff on your bumper sticker i like the bumper sticker the other day instead of honk if you love jesus as a bumper sticker said
