if you have your Bibles tonight turn with me to the first book of John the first book of John chapter 3 and verse number four and let me say this evening first lady tomorrow will be her birthday and uh you all have done such an awesome job uh celebrating and and the 40th anniversary and and our 40th year of being here was just over over the top did anybody in this place enjoy the fireworks amen I got inspired for a message it's entitled The Fire Works and I thank you all um for everything um that was said the cards um the gifts all of that thank you so very very much you're you are God's people and we love you and I thank you tonight your Heaven's your Heaven's very best and it's an honor it's an honor it's an honor to serve you first lady was a little bit late coming in because uh she has been teaching a Bible study to the SL black family and where they seated at tonight where's where's that family at tonight would you raise your right here and uh at the end of the Bible study they all said we need to be baptized tonight all right and so what great way to celebrate independence than the name of Jesus brother sister slack we love you and look forward to that baptism here in a few moments 1 John 3 and verse4 John said whosoever committeth sin transgresses also the law for sin is the transgression of the law sin is the transgression of the law now I know you're probably saying the ribs are already soaking in barbecue sauce or the Wimberly we're already saying we've already been to Kroger and Publix we've already got the chocolate we already got it laid out for tomorrow and can you believe our pastor is going to teach on fasting tonight but I'm going to go ahead and tell you I'm go ahead and tell you that um I'm doing this not to try to get you to fast tomorrow because if I told you to fast tomorrow I would be a hypocrite I just want us to have a time of fasting this month and so um they asked me for a title tonight do you have my title you can put on the screen do you have my title this would just simply oh there's my title Governor Bill Lee's Proclamation that's my title that's my title you know let me say we're going we have prayer and let you be seated let me say this there's so much that comes through government that we can't get behind but I believe if something comes to our government that we can get behind we ought to get behind it with everything with everything that that I that I have I I don't know I don't know if the letter will I don't know if the letter will go to Nashville and I don't know if the letter will end up on somebody's desk and our governor will I don't know if our governor will ever see the letter but I plan to have a letter written from this church to thank our governor for taking a stand and letting him know what First Apostolic Church of Maryville has done for 31 days the month of July precious God tonight thank you for our freedom thank you Lord for the slack family thank you Lord for their obedience to your word to be baptized in a few moments God I know there's power in your word Lord for the next few moments Lord would you anoint my mind and my lips that I may speak speak the word to the congregation and to those that are watching tonight and that Lord we would understand the doctrine we would understand the reason that we fast the Reason God that we would deny oursel Lord a pleasure the reason we would deny oursel God food for a season God and I just ask you tonight to anoint me in Jesus name we all pray everybody said amen thank you for standing tonight thank you so very much for standing now I want you all to know tonight that fasting is one of the most difficult things to do if it wasn't for one thing fasting would be easy food right it wasn't for that one thing fasting is a very difficult discipline to engage in but I want you to know tonight that fasting isn't about getting God's attention fasting is not about getting God's attention we already have God's attention fasting rather fasting is not about getting God's attention but rather about giving God our full undivided attention to him fasting is not about we're going to try to get God to see us we're not building a bombfire on a deserted island hoping that God will see our fasting and give us a little of tension no fasting is designed so that you and I can give God our undivided and our full attention to God fasting can simply be defined as an exchange it's just an exchange I'm giving God something good I'm denying myself something good in order that I'm going to get something better back in return I'm giving God something good a missed meal and an exchange my fixing my attention upon God is going to make a better person out of me now I said there's only one problem with fasting and that's food and the reason it is it's not that food is bad in and of itself it's that we live in a fleshly in a fleshly body it's the reason I chose tonight from my text exactly what sin is some may ask well can you give me the definition of sin well it's found in 1 John 3:4 the Bible says for sin is the transgression or the over running that's what that word means transgression it means to overrun or to overflow it means to it means to enouch upon an area that you're not to be in you're you're to you're to you're to go into an area you are to transgress into an area that God has put off limits to you you see God by right of what he created that would be us he possesses what he's created he's the owner of what he has created and so therefore because we are God's creation and we are God's possession then God by right of creator gives a command he gives a command and in Genesis chap 2 and verse 15 the Bible said and the Lord God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it and the Lord God commanded the man saying of every tree of the gold Garden thou mayest freely eat but of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil Thou shalt not eat of it for in the day that thou eatest thereof Thou shalt surely die now I want you to look at these I want you to look at these verses very quick very very closely God created man so God had the right since man was his possession God had the right to place the man in the Garden of Eden God had the right to give give the man his job description and God had the right to command the man that there was one particular tree in the garden that he was not to eat of that he was not to eat of now in the day that we're living in right now people would ask well just who does God think he is well he doesn't think he knows he's God all right he knows that he is God he doesn't suggest that Adam not eat of the tree he doesn't say can we just get together and talk about maybe you not eating of the tree he gives a straight command to Adam do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil do not transgress do not go where I have put off limits to you I have placed this off limits now it's an interesting thing if we just examine it real closely when God created man and God created all the organs of man and how man would live God created that man would live by food thus and therefore God created that man would have an appetite right man would have an appetite I know it's kind of simple but I I believe this would help us to understand that God created the man with with an appetite and then put him in the garden and God would also put in the garden a tree that would bear fruit that would appeal to the man man's appetite that would appeal to the man's flesh but that's where worship came in when God's word to refrain from eating of the fruit was always greater than man's appetite man lived in unbelievable unimaginable peace and happiness on the this Earth without sin we've never we've never known such happiness as Adam had in the Garden of Eden as long and I hope you see this as long as God's word was here ruling and reigning over appetite man lived in total unbelievable unimaginable peace there in the Garden of Eden but you know as well as I did where man run a foul was when man allowed his appetite to be here and God's word to be there let's go on you do understand with me tonight that when God gave the command to Adam not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil Woman was not yet created Eve had not yet been taken from the side of Adam Adam was the one that heard the direct command of God not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil that the consequences would be that in the day that you eat in the day that you transgress in the day that you go where you're not supposed to go in the day that you you you transgress address my word you will surely die I am the Lord God then Genesis chapter 3 and verse number one now the serpent was more subtile than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made and he said unto the woman yay hath God said you shall not eat of every tree of the garden now let's just let's just stop here and let's just let's just try to explain what's happening here is that God created every creeping thing it appears to me that Satan Lucifer that out of order that out of order Angelic being that God created created that leader of rebellion from Heaven that was cast out of Heaven cast to the Earth that was suitable for him the Earth was suitable God created the Earth that was suitable for Lucifer was suitable for him what do you mean by that the Bible said the Earth was without form and void and darkness was up on the face of the deep so God created a place that was suitable for him there was no life here it was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep there Satan was until Satan heard the familiar voice of his creator saying let there be light and Satan understands that his world has been invaded by his creator Satan watches as creation unfolds Satan watches as Man was created in the image and the likeness of God now no doubt Satan evidently would possess this what we would know today as a snake or reptile because snakes don't talk right snakes don't don't don't talk and Satan would would would possess this and we don't have any problem understanding demon possession and uh if you've ever seen demon possession uh you know that many times that the devil will speak out using the tongue and the vocal cords using the voice of the vessel that it has has possessed and so Satan took over this reptile and the Bible says that the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made he says to the woman he says has God said I would I would like to know has God said You shall not eat of every tree of the garden you you see the the the devil there's there's several things he is not he's not omnipotent and he's not omniscient he's not all knowing he's not all powerful he's not all knowing and he's not all present all right so he asked Eve just what do you know about the word of God what do you know about the word of God the woman said unto the serpent we may eat of the fruit of the Trees of the garden Garden but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden God has said You shall not eat of it neither shall you touch it lest you die now let me let me show you some have said here I've heard it said and I've read commentaries that Eve added to the word of God that God never said the words Adam in the day that you touch the tree you will surely die God never said that to Adam Eve adds that she says God has said ye shall not eat of it neither shall you touch it lest you die now number one God said nothing to Eve God said it to Adam Eve knew what God Said through Adam which Adam and Eve can serve as an Old Testament type of the word of God the man of God and Eve can serve as a type of the church you see there is clear there is clear clear Commandments in the word of God Thou shalt not commit adultery that's clear Thou shalt not commit adultery and uh little boy come home from Sunday school one day and he kind of got in the pastor's Bible class and Mom said Son what did you learn today he said I learned it were never to cut down a grownup tree never cut down a grownup tree what do you mean by that the Pastor said do not commit adult tree all right so so kind of got off on that a little bit all right it's clear isn't it right do not commit adultery now a good man of God will come along and he wants to keep you out of the atmosphere that adultery can take place he might come with such standards such as you know when you T text another woman other than your wife you need to add your wife in the text feed I heard a hand clap break out just now all right he might add a he might add a standard and say you know I don't think it'd be a good thing for you to be taking your secretary to lunch I don't care if you are talking about business where's that at in the Bible Well it's not but Adam being a good Pastor said you know what we're not supposed to eat of the tree you know what I really think it would be best for you never even to touch it because one good way to never eat something is to never go over there and touch it so many times there's standards that we preach from our pull pit that people say show it to me in the Bible it's not in the Bible but it's simply a good standard to keep you away from breaking the Commandment it helps you not to break the Commandment why in the world do they have a guard rail sitting on the edge of the payment why do they put a guardrail there because it's not that they don't want you to run off the road they don't want you to run off the side of the mountain and so they put a guard rail so sometimes there's guard rails in our lives that are placed there by the ministry and the man of God and the man of God comes up and says you know what you have a tendency and we all do look up here now look up here I'm going going to teach to you a little bit tonight look up here tonight there's none of us that are out of the Temptation Zone none of us are out of the Temptation Zone all right if you are if you would say no brother carp I'm here to tell you I never get tempted I don't you might have to get a Greek book out to understand what I'm about to say you are a liar we all in the Temptation Zone but if we don't keep the word of God here in our life we have the tendency to want to go there and so I've all I've always got to be checking my flesh you're not in control flesh God's word is in control you're not going to listen your flesh will desire this and it will desire that but you've got to get the word of God inside of your life and you got to say no no no the word of God is up here the word of God the word of God is up here she said we shall not eat of it verse two neither shall we touch it lest we die and the serpent said unto the woman you shall not surely die for God doth know that in the day that you eat thereof then will your eyes be open and you shall be as Gods knowing good and evil look at me folks here is the greatest divide in the history the the history of man we now have two gods on the earth one will be identified as the God of this world the other will be identified is the god of Eternity the god of Eternity says I've placed you in the Garden of Eden the god of Eternity says I placed a tree in the Garden of Eden you can eat of the tree of life and live forever you can eat of all the other trees in the garden and you can live forever and blessed in unimaginable joy and peace in my presence but the God of this world says go ahead and transgress the restraint go ahead this God has put a restraint around you this God has put a restraint in your life you need to go ahead transgress the restraint and then your eyes will be open and you will know Freedom such as you've never known in your life here it is here's where we're all at it's very simple there's two Gods one is a god of Truth and One is the god of deception go ahead transgress your eyes will be open you're being held back does it sound familiar you're being held back you're being deprived get out of that arcade Church get away from the bondage in that church get get away from all of the bondage that's being put get away from the guilt oh don't you you when you go to that church you feel such guilt and you feel such shame and God doesn't want you to have guilt he wants you to live as you want to live he wants you to be able to do what you want to do and just live so free you you don't want to get around that guilt and around that shame but come on out here your eyes will be open you will be look at verse five what did he say your eyes will be open and you shall be as what God's knowing good and evil turn with me to 2 Corinthians chap 11 verse number 12 Paul Paul is trying to combat the vile tongues of men that are saying Paul's not an apostle Paul's not a preacher look at Paul he doesn't even take any money for preaching the reason that Paul allowed himself at one time not to do that was to shut their mouths about his motive to preach the gospel he says in verse 12 but what I do that I will do that I may cut off occasion from from them which desire occasion that wherein they Glory they may be found even as we for such are false Apostles what kind of Apostles are they FAL false Apostles deceitful workers transforming look at that word transforming transforming means changing the appearance of transforming themselves into the Apostles of Christ and no Marvel for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of Light an angel of information an angel to tell you that everything you've been told about the word of God there's some more information that's coming coming your way it's old it's archaic it's outdated they transform themselves into the Apostles of Christ verse 14 and no Marvel for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of Light therefore is it it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as Ministers of righteousness whose end shall be according to their Works Satan showed up in the garden as a minister of information Eve listen to me listen to me Eve you're being held back listen to me Eve you you you there there's something else out there listen to this God doesn't want you to go beyond the boundary this God doesn't want you to touch and eat the tree this God there's something out there for you there's there's more out there for you and God help us parents that we get the word of God so deep in our children that when we have to turn them loose to Godless universities and colleges where they become the target of of somebody trying to get this out of their mind that our youth will have it inside of their heart they'll be able to say no God's word is true no I would never violate God's word I will keep God's word deep in my my heart don't you want to raise your children that way don't you want your grandbabies to know an angel of Light an angel of Light and now here we are and simply is tonight who will you believe who will you believe will you believe the god of Eternity or will you believe the god of deception of this world will you believe men that preach the full counsel of God men that you will never hear them say that's not for us today we don't have to do that anymore we've been set free from such that's there men that'll say oh that Holy Ghost speaking in tongues that was just for that day back then but it's not for us now oh that abstaining from sin well God understands that we're we he knows who we are and he wants you to be happy and we want you to come to church on Sunday morning and I want you I want to be like a big loving life coach to you and I want to always smile and tell you that you've got destiny on the inside and I'm never going to mention sin and I'm never going to mention don't do this or don't do that can I I tell you today we are being combed our our culture our generation is being combed with the messengers of Satan that has transformed themselves into the appearance of gospel preachers and they're telling people they're saved when they're not saved they're telling people they're all right when they're not all right God give us men of God that pre Paul said it this way I haven't failed to preach unto you the full C Cel of God my teeth may not be pearly white my chin may not be sharp I may not have the greatest Sun T tonight I may get loud at times and soft as others but I'm here to tell you till the day I die I'm going to preach the full counsel of God I'm going to preach the full counsel of God you can believe his word you can be changed by his word it'll be the greatest life you've ever lived to live for God if you you will heed if you will heed who will you believe who will you believe the slack family is getting baptized tonight they're getting baptized because the word of God says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved the slack family is getting baptized tonight because neither is there salvation in any other name but the name name of Jesus they're not getting baptized tonight so they become members brother Perry of First Apostolic church it's not why we're baptizing I listen we all we ought to give them a hand we're baptizing husband wife and daughter tonight that's a whole family coming in the house of God we baptized a whole foland family during Co praise God I like it when we baptize dad and mom and kids all around but can I tell you something they they're not being baptized ton not to join this local church they're not even being baptized tonight as an outward an outward manifestation that they're that they've received Christ in their heart and and they're they're showing that Christ was baptized and they're going to get Bap no they're being baptized tonight by the word of God and the word of God says repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the joining of the church repent and be baptized every one of you that's actually 238 repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ because Jesus was baptized and so so should you it's not what it says it it says repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost let me tell you how important baptism is I'm glad you had an experience with God I'm glad Paul that you got knocked off your donkey and you laid there in the dirt and you heard the literal voice of Jesus Christ from Heaven saying Saul Saul why persecute I'm glad that you got up went into the city of Damascus and a man came in after three days he laid his hands on you and you received the baptism of the Holy Ghost you were filled with the spirit of God but something happened that is recorded in Acts chapter 22 Paul gave his testimony and Paul said that while I was there he said to me ananas said said why are you tering Paul why do you T Saul arise and be baptized calling on the name of the Lord washing away thy sins see it's it's not about joining the church it's not it's not about it's not about Christ was baptized and you ought to be baptized it's the full Council of God nowhere in the Bible was they ever baptized ized to join a church nowhere in the Bible was ever baptized because Christ was baptized and nowhere in your King James Bible was anybody ever baptized saying the words Father Son and Holy Ghost they were all baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and that's why we baptized that's why we baptize the way that we baptize tonight oh give him praise right now I've got all my notes I I've got to toally this the slack family's got me off my nose tonight but who will you believe will you believe tradition but who will you believe well my brother caral are you telling me my grandmother wasn't baptized that way you telling me my my grandmother's not saved oh I am absolutely not telling you that at all your grandmother will stand before God for what she knew to do and you will stand before God for what you had the opportunity to hear and do who will you believe the god of Truth or the god of deception two words now are in the mind of eve two words one's a commandment from God and one is a word from the God of this world going back to Genesis 3 and verse number 6 Genesis 3 and verse number 6 and when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes tree to be desired to make one wise she took of the fruit thereof and did eat gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat thus keep ver ver six on the screen because I want to now introduce to you the two types of Sinners on Earth there's two types of Sinners number one there's The Sinner that doesn't even know there're a sinner they are deceived they are absolutely deceived when the God of this world who rules in darkness came up in their mind Darkness flooded their minds and their minds are now darkened and they are truly deceived two men will be embraced in each other's arms and if you dare say something they would say there's nothing wrong with this two women embracing nothing wrong with this now can I tell you tonight God and his church loveed those people but it's sin it's sin but to convince them of that they'll have every kind of argument that they can say but they love each other but this and that they can say all they want to you love their soul and I have never been unkind nor disrespected respectful to any in that lifestyle no no you'll never win people you'll never be able to shine the love of God to them but neither is the church going to be silent because if we allow the enemy to dumb us down they're blaring it out there into the ears of my grandchildren they're blaring it out there to the ears of our youth group and whose voice are they going to believe if the church doesn't ever address it they're not going to know where they stand but there's a world that'll certainly tell them oh well it's okay they love each other oh it's all right I Was Born This Way oh oh this and that can I tell you that God's word is still God's it is still it is still God's word there's two types of Sinners there is the deceived sinner they are absolute deceived in their lifestyle Eve was absolutely deceived Eve thought that when she took of the fruit and she bit into the fruit that she was going to automatically be like a God she really believed that Adam the Bible says that Adam was not deceived Adam knew very well that he was transgressing and Breaking the Law of God thus there's two types of sinners in our world today those that are totally deceived and people that will look right at you and say I know what I'm doing is sin I know what I'm doing is wrong I know I shouldn't be living this way I know well you you you you might think to say back to me tonight well if they know that they're wrong why do they keep doing it because they don't have the power in their flesh to come out of it that's why we've got to preach the new birth that's why we've got to preach the Plan of Salvation that's why we've got to be a Praying church we have got to be a worshiping Church we've got to be a home Bible study teaching church because the God of this world has blinded their eyes but when you bring the word of God into their dark living room or their dark room you begin to share the word of God and the light of God and the fire begins to burn and Satan has to Satan has to back off he's not all powerful when God walks in the room when God comes in the room when God's word comes in the room when God's ways come in the room when God's people come in the room Satan has to begin to back up well if they know they're doing wrong why do they keep doing it because they don't have the power to quit two types of Sinners deceived and just Sinners that know they're doing wrong their eyes were open they knew they were naked verse seven the eyes were open they knew they were naked they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves aprons watch this why did they sew fig leaves together and cover their midsection because they were ashamed because they were naked they were ashamed because they were naked why were they ashamed because they had sin because wherever you have sin you will have shame wherever you have fire you will have smoke and some folks there's things in the Bible that that that that says it's a shame and people want to get on that word well the Bible says it's a shame it doesn't say it's a sin do you really think you you're you're you're professing Jesus Christ as your lord and savior and you're willing to walk around and say I have a shame in my life I know about you but that's not the God that I want to represent tonight you have shame because there sin if we can get rid of if we can get rid of sin we can get rid of Shame and if we can get rid of shame we can get rid of guilt and if we can get rid of guilt we'll get some emotional health going on because we've taken care of sin shame guilt and now we begin to feel Joy we begin to feel peace we begin to get up and we're not feeling lousy for the way we've been living we actually begin to to feel good about ourselves and we give the praise and the glory and the honor to the god that turned our life around aren't you thankful tonight oh my my my my Hallelujah the eyes of them both were open they knew they were naked and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves apron hey hey like this new God hey you like this new new standard Adam and Eve decide that they only want to be clothed through the midsection that was their decision that was their new mentality all we have to cover is our midsection and we're fine oh that's all we have to that's you do you realize that clothing tonight that clothing is a testimony of sin you know why we're wearing clothes tonight sin it's a testimony of sin so we're wearing close is it amazing when God made man and there was no sin he was naked and not ashamed but when he listened to the wrong God he now understands he's naked but he doesn't understand how to fully clothe himself that's why when God came down God said your fig leaves is number one it's not made of the right material it will ever be be shrinking these fig leaves are dead and they'll ever be shrinking they'll ever they'll forever be coming less and less and couldn't we just stay there and preach a little while I mean folks folks in a more enlightened culture that we're in right now in the 21st century in a more enlightened culture people are not wearing more clothes today they're wearing somebody said that years ago a picture was made of a little boy holding on to his mother's skirt tail somebody said nowadays that little boy can't JP high enough to get a hold of it it's cause the flesh what makes people want to dress that way listen to me tonight what makes them want to dress that way flesh flesh wants to be admired flesh wants to be lusted after that's why tonight we have to keep our flesh crucified with Christ about five more minutes Genesis 6 and3 and the Lord said my spirit shall not always strive with man for that he also is flesh yet his day shall be 120 years Genesis 6: 12 and God looked upon the Earth and behold it was corrupt means decaying for All Flesh had corrupted his way upon the Earth why fasting while prayer because of our flesh because of our flesh now again I want you I want you to hear me and I want you to hear me right want everybody look up here right now right here there's no one outside of the Flesh of the Temptation Zone nobody graduates from prayer nobody graduates from worship nobody graduates from putting your flesh in subjection to the word of God it'll be that way till the Lord sounds the trumpet when he gives us our glorified body there'll be no temptation over there but until then God helped me to preach to you and myself did I say myself God helped me to preach to you and myself we have got to keep our flesh under the word of God listen to Paul in Romans 7: 18 for I know that in me that is in my flesh I wish we'd all read this together tonight for I know come on let's read it together for I know that in me that is in my flesh dwelleth no good thing for to will is present with me but how to perform that which is good I find not do you know how that we can overcome our flesh prayer right fasting exchanging what is good for something that is better let me read let me read from 1 Corinthians chapter 15 verse number 31 brother Nolan listen to The Great Apostle Paul 1 Corinthians 15:31 for I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our lord I die I die weekly come on I'm have some fun with you tonight I die weekly come on young people I saw a lot of you dying last week at Strong Tower but that's not going to help you you can't die from Strong Tower to Strong Tower we've got to Die daily we can't die from from Sunday to Sunday Sunday to Wednesday Wednesday to Sunday we've got to Die daily this can't be a God that we put in a box and get him back out on Sunday and getting back out on Wednesday night and we live any old way in between oh my God no we have got to die every day of Our Lives we've got to Die daily oh God I want you to have your way God I want to be a witness for you Lord my last text tonight tonight musicians would you make your way my last text is found in 1 Corinthians 9 and 24 1 Corinthians 9:24 listen to Paul again know you not that they which run in a race run all but one receiveth the prize so run that you may obtain every man man that striveth for the Mastery is temperate in all things that word there temperate means under control he has his flesh under control he has his flesh under control Brothers when you're driving that car down through that neighborhood and that woman's laying out on that yard sunbathing and don't have hardly any clothes on at all and I I I I know sometimes when I start preaching this it's kind of the old the old guys back at ain't he really cute saying that I ain't cute I'm telling you the God's truth truth that's right I'm telling you the God's truth when the opposite sex that you would be attracted to walks by and and scantily dressed your flesh is going to be inclined to want to get a second look it's not the first look sometimes we can't help the first look Brothers I can't control going to submit to that I I'll do what I want to do can I tell you something you're missing out on an opportunity to look beyond the man and look at the god the man's trying to get you in love with look at the word of God the man's trying to get you to embrace you you see like it or not none of us listen we didn't have a say in this you hear me brother Patterson we didn't have a say in this who did God did that's right we didn't have a say in how the church was set up we didn't have a say in how preaching would go forth God did and guess what God Said It pleased God that by the foolishness
