relate to that song would you just love him with me for a moment no one has ever cared for me like jesus no one has ever cared for me like him no one has ever cared for me like jesus you have your bibles and would join me in the book of isaiah chapter 53 and verse number one it's an unusual message for christmas time but i want to minister this morning on one word one word and that word is grief grief i feel compelled of the spirit of god because we have had several in this church within the last few months that have had the unexpected knock on the door the unexpected phone call in the night the unexpected change of scheduling because death came to their family and um the sun may be shining bright and i always try to remember this the sun may be shining bright on your house but it won't always there's a divine law about what you reap what you sow and i want to care about people in their times because when that knock comes to my door and i'm i'm unable to see my hand in front of my face spiritually i want to have a lot of prayers in heaven that'll be called in grief isaiah 53 and verse number one who hath believed our report and to whom is the arm of the lord revealed he shall grow up before him as a tender plant it has a root out of dry ground he hath no form nor comeliness and when we see him there is no beauty that we should desire him he is despised and rejected of men a man of sorrow and acquainted with grief we hid as it were our faces from him he was despised and we esteemed him not surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him stricken smitten of god and afflicted but he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities and the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed all we like sheep have gone astray have turned everyone to his own way the lord hath laid upon him the iniquity of us all he was oppressed and afflicted yet he opened not his mouth he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as sheep before his shears is dumb so he openeth not his mouth he was taken from prison and from judgment and who shall declare his generation for he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people was he stricken and he made his grave with the wicked and with the rich in his death because he had done no violence neither was any deceit in his mouth yet it pleased the lord to bruise him he had put him to grief when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin for he shall see his seed his days and he shall prolong his days the pleasure of the lord shall prosper in his hand ten verses tell about the prophesying of the coming of the messiah god in flesh but i think you heard one word over and over again grief grief grief pray with me this morning father in the name of jesus christ i come before you as a pastor lord every family in this church the last two months that have been touched with grief lord every family god in this church right now that feels like they're in a nightmare that they wish they could wake up lord i pray today that through your word that i would be able to bring the bomb of gilead i would be able to bring healing salve to their hurt this morning through the power of your name in jesus name we pray amen and amen you may be seated grief i like to share something with you i read about grief grief is a strong sometimes overwhelming emotion for people regardless of whether their sadness stems from the loss of a loved one or from a terminal diagnosis they or someone they love have received they might find themselves feeling numb and removed from daily life unable to carry on with regular duties while saddled with their sense of loss grief is a natural reaction to loss grief is a natural reaction of laws individual experiences of grief vary and are influenced by the nature of the loss some examples of loss include the death of a loved one the ending of an important relationship job loss loss through theft the loss of independence through disability experts advise those grieving to realize they can't control the process and to prepare for the varying stages of grief understanding why their suffering can help as can talking to others and trying to resolve issues that cause significant emotional pain such as feeling guilty for a loved ones death morning grieving can last for months or years generally pain is tempered as time passes as the bereavement adapts to life without a loved one to the news or to the news of terminal diagnosis or to the realization that someone they love has passed grief isn't just about death we grieve over many things the loss obviously of a loved one the death of a pet you may smirk at that but if you are a pet lover a dog lover as i am when our our dog our dog not boss but chubs drowned in our pond behind our house this summer i want you to know that we grieved we grieved for days you said was just a dog well it's not the objects it's the love that we love that dog the death of a pet people grieve over relationship breaks down breakdowns and divorce imprisonments if you've ever had a loved one to be incarcerated injury illness loss of job and the list could go on and on i studied that there are believed to be seven stages of grief to understand it doesn't matter how full of the holy ghost you are nobody think i'm blaspheming today it has nothing to do with how full of the holy ghost you are when life happens and death happens you can be completely full of the holy ghost but god designed us to go through a grieving process grieving is natural it is believed there are seven stages and i go over some of these stages today to let you know where you may be at in your grieving that this is natural i feel this way i feel this way is this natural it is believed that the first stage of grieving is shock and then denial this is the beginning of the grieving process some something life-changing has happened be it the death of a loved one divorce foreclosure on your home change in health or something else you might feel numb and struggle to believe what has happened the common phrase that i hear shortly after a tragedy strike such as a death in an unexpected death i hear people say this common phrase it feels like i'm in a bad dream and i just want to wake up i feel like i'm in a bad dream i'm in shock i can't process i got a phone call i can't process i just saw my husband as he walked out the door going to work and 20 minutes later a state trooper calls and tells me to come to the hospital and have somebody accompany me because my husband has been in an accident in less than an hour away and the list goes on and on that housewife that just one hour less than one hour before kissed her husband on the side of his face now walks into an er and sees her husband laying lifeless there are families that we could mention from this church of how it was just an ordinary day just another sunday morning in potts camp mississippi just another sunday there patrick just another youth class you're teaching there but little did they know that before the sun would go down patrick would drown that afternoon swimming the first phase is shock and denial you can't it's so large your brain cannot process everything that's been brought as a few days go on you enter the second stage of grief the second stage of grief is pain and guilt this is where you might feel like the loss or change is unbearable you might feel guilty about what has happened or because you feel that you are a burden to others and and once again once again it's the old familiar you're not blaspheming child of god but when you say i don't know how much more i can take i don't know if i can make it through this you have not blasphemed the holy ghost it's a natural part of grief it's unbearable you don't know how much you could take can we just be transparent today how many of you have made the statement how many of you and raise your hand if you have and i want you i want you to look at me today how many of you have made the statement i don't know how much more i can take you see pastor's hand how many has made this statement how many has made this statement i don't know if i'm gonna make it through this one you see today all of that pain in that guilt and especially when that guilt comes coupled with if i had only done this if i had only if i had only done this my mother suffered from tremendous grief and guilt one day my aunt which was her sister care may went across the street and asked my mom to go out on clinton highway with her to pick up something mom said she was getting ready to go she was getting ready to go and just felt like laying back down sister mother just said kenny i just felt like laying back down and i told my sister care may i said no just go on without me literally they know that when aunt cara may pulled out on clinton highway the passenger side of the car that a motorcycle traveling they believe it's some 100 miles an hour king hit the side of aunt kimmy's car and the rider on the motorcycle went through the passenger window and across to the driver's side broke my aunt cara may's neck and she died but my mother suffered for months and maybe years by saying sister selena kenny if i had been there i could have died in her place maybe she wouldn't have died maybe maybe just you know your mind placed tricks on you maybe the time the timing kenny maybe maybe if she'd had to come across the road that would have been two or three more minutes to pick me up and she wouldn't have been at that intersection how many are relating to this today pain and guilt then it turns to anger in bargaining at this point of anger beginning to bargain at this point you might feel angry and lash out or have outbursts of anger you might also bargain with god or another higher power of which we know is not another that if they could just rectify the situation you would do anything you you you would do anything if they would just if they would just change things you're not alone you're not alone with that anger as a matter of fact you haven't blasphemed you haven't blasphemed because jesus christ himself in the gardening of gethsemane pray this prayer if it is possible i don't want this cup the man christ jesus as a matter of fact but the carpenter i'm dealing with grief and i can't process if god really cared about me why would god allow this to happen to me why would this happen to me if god really cared about me and now that i can't explain what has happened i can't explain why god doesn't take away this pain inside of me can i tell you jesus christ hangs on a cross and he does not call him father please note this he calls him father several times on the cross but there's one time he does not call him father he says my god my god you see father is the term that we use when blessings come our way father is the term that we use when good days come our way oh don't we have a good father oh don't we have a heavenly father oh i thank the father for how he's blessed my life but when the child is born stillborn or when the lump in your body is cancerous or when something happens that you can't explain we don't call him father we have a three-letter word god god we say oh my god when we can't explain things we say when when the phone rings and somebody has been killed on a job we said you're god dear god and jesus christ on the cross said these words not my father my father why have you forsaken me but he said my god my god why have you forsaken me it is normal during this grieving process to go through a time to go through a time i've been here you have but sometimes there's the scriptures there's scriptures that we just look at and turn our heads for this one god will not put more on you and you're able to bear but how many of you have had things put on you that you didn't believe you were able to bear it's part of the grieving as you grieve you can enter into a stage part of the process is depression this can often present as a period of reflection and withdrawal you feel lonely and isolated please remember that you're not alone you are not alone but it seems that depression is the lowest place that we get when we have no hope or we feel we have no hope we reach out to somebody and this is the benefit of belonging this is blessed by association but how many of you have had your life turned upside down because when you were going through your dark night somebody called you somebody walked across the church somebody come up an aisle and somebody said hey i heard you've got to catch a report i heard you've got this type of cancer i do but worlds falling apart but to have a man or a woman to say four years ago i went through the same thing that you went through god did this and this happened to me it just seems like it's a little bit more bearable when you can look at somebody not across the television screen or not across the country but you can look at somebody in your own church and say they made it they made it you see once a year we help with a conference that's in loudon tennessee it's called the loss of a child conference the only way you can attend that conference is to have lost a child but people come from all over the united states to this loss of a child conference and somehow they have one thing in common they've all walked that dark road of burying a child but somehow with testimony after testimony i was depressed when i came i was down when i came but when i began to look around and i begin to see those that had overcome it sparked within me that if they can make it i can make it too there will be life after your storm as you're going through this process after you see this you will be able to reconstruct your life you will be able at this point to feel like that you can begin to put the pieces of your life back together to move to move forward then the final stage is acceptance and hope acceptance and hope acceptance is a long process there's no lie about it there is a very gradual acceptance of what is now your new way of life feelings of hope for your future you see today as i prepared this bible lesson on on grief on grief i promise you i promise you today there's some blessed people sitting on pews today saints have just buried a mother father a brother that are dealing with all these different stages if i had only if i had only done this but the greatest way to deal with grief is to what sister hammond sang about this morning hear me and hear me well there is no one who is ever cared for you like jesus there is no one that has ever held you watched you and is still watching and holding you like jesus could we just take a moment and praise his holy name right now come on could we just praise his name right now no one has ever cared for you like jesus no one has ever cared for you like him you see today the prophet isaiah in 53 1-10 the prophet isaiah prophesied of the coming of jesus christ god and flesh he first began to tell us who will believe our report verse 1. and to whom is the arm of the lord revealed it's not amazing that in verse 1 of chapter 53 it's a two parts you got to believe the report before the power comes you have to believe that no one has ever cared for you like jesus christ before his power is revealed you must understand he cares about you you must understand that he is more real than we are he is god verse 2 says he shall grow up before him as a tender plan as a root out of dry ground he hath no form no commonness that we should desire him there is no beauty that we should desire him you must understand that to the flesh he is not desirable to the flesh there is no desire that you would find in him but to the inward spirit he is all together the lovely one he is all together the sweet rose of sharon do you want help with your grief today i want help with my grief today and the only way i can find help from my grief today is to simply see him who is invisible today there is a god he does care about us he is watching out over us there is a god moses tells us in hebrews chapter 11 verse 24. please stay with me today on this this may not be the normal message that you're used to on sunday morning but i want to help one person grieving isaiah 53 1-10 repeatedly has a word grief he bore our griefs he was acquainted with grief he's here he was put to grief in hebrews 11 27 by faith moses forsook egypt not fearing the wrath of the king for he endured as seeing him who is invisible how am i going to come out of this i want to tell you you're going to come out of it when you believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him i hear the song right now even when i don't see him he's working when even when i don't feel him he's working he's going to work it out i have got to tell you i don't have any kind of i don't have any kind of chill bump to give you today i got one message to tell you you're going to come out when you begin to believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him he is a god when you were given a healthy baby he is still a god when you have been given a stillborn baby he is a god when you were handed a bonus and he is a god when you were handed a layoff he was god when you said i do at your wedding and he was god when you were served with divorce papers he is still your god you've got to believe it foreign how are you going to do it moses by faith he endured as seeing him who is invisible next verse through faith he kept the passover the sprinkling of blood lest he that destroyeth the firstborn should touch them the passover is an act of worship it was the act of worship you will never be faithful to the act of worship until you are faithful to seeing him who is invisible job said it this way curse god and die job he said woman you speak as one of the foolish have we not received good at the hand of the lord and shall we not receive evil also in other words job said the lord giveth and the lord taketh away it's the same hand you're in the same hand you didn't slip out of god's hand the night they called you and told you that your daughter had died you didn't slip out of god's hand the night they called you and told you that your son had a car wreck and is killed you didn't slip out of god's hand i got to get you to believe this you were still in the hand of the almighty god job wasn't just in god's hand when blessings were coming he was in god's hand when everything was falling apart you're still in god's hand you're still in god's hand before you had the cancer report you're still in god's hand now that you've got cancer you were in god's hand before trouble came and you're stealing god's hand you've got to see him as this he's a good god i can't seem but he's working i can't feel anybody's working i can't understand him but he's still working around me i gotta see him who is invisible before before i lift my hands and praise him i gotta see him who is invisible before i start clapping my hands and worshiping god i gotta see him who is invisible when the clock goes off on sunday morning and i say it's time to go to the house of god and it's time to worship i've got to see him who is invisible you'll never carry the act out this explains why people don't worship god when life falls apart they were this way they were this way when the sun was shining and now they're this way when they come to stand you know what worshipless saints are really testifying too i don't see god i saw my paycheck i saw my relationship i saw me me me me me it was all about me to begin with and when everything went wrong with me that's why my hands is this way now and you're never going to come out of grief until you learn how to see him who is invisible and then begin to worship god god i don't understand it but lord you're still good god i don't understand god i'm so pained in my stomach god i wish this part right here would go away god i wish i wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night because when i wake up in the middle of the night i can't go back to sleep but god you're a good god as you stand looking at 3 30 a.m and 4 30 a.m and you can't go back to sleep you look up at the ceiling and begin to say i bless the name of jesus i imagine by the name of jesus you just get up and go through the house and begin to praise god come on church come on church i'm talking about grief today jesus bore our grief verse 27 you have to see him who is invisible verse 28 you have to worship you have to keep the passover the sprinkling of blood in verse 29 by faith they pass through the red sea as my dry ground when the egyptians are saying to do were drowned look at these three simple verses one says i see him who's invisible the second says i worship him who is invisible but the third says i'm going to be delivered from this and i'm going to come out of the red sea hebrews 12 and 1. oh i love this verse wherefore seeing we also are compassed about we're so great a cloud of witnesses let us lay aside every way to the sin which just so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us looking unto jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endure the cross despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of the throne of god do you see that today we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses was it not the plan was it not the enemy i'm not saying that the devil created covet but i am telling you that sly foot has sure used covet he might not have created it but i sure do believe he cr he used it he's trying to get the church to believe that we don't need each other that we don't need a corporate gathering that we don't need to join together you do need to join together we do need one another why we are compassioned about with such a great cloud of witnesses as these somebody's went through it somebody's buried somebody's had this somebody's been divorced somebody lost a job somebody went bankrupt we are compassed about was so great a cloud of witnesses we look unto jesus the author the author you see we have no problem believing that he was the author up till that tragedy came we have no problem seeing god up till that tragedy came sometimes churches face tragedy and they have no problem believing that god was in the start of the church and that god has kept his hand upon the church and god is all these things but let a tragedy come to the church and people will say i just don't know if god's on our church anymore but i got good news for you today did you read it with me did you see it with me he is the author and the i'll say it he is the author and the come on he's the author and the finisher of what he not only wrote your story of coming out of drugs he not only wrote your story from coming out of the world he was not only in that person at that laundromat that met you at that one moment and handed you a track and you saw god in god's hand and you got baptized and you got the holy ghost you start paying time god started blessing you he wasn't just the the author of that and then the tragedy come well i don't know if god loves me anymore i just don't know if this is worth doing anymore no he already saw the end of your life and he's already written it out by my grace you can do all things i am the author and the finisher of your faith that here it is here's the biggest temptation you'll face in life you hear me today the biggest temptation you will face in life is not watching what's wrong on television the biggest temptation you'll face in life is not some kind of act of immorality hear me and hear me well the biggest temptation you will face in life is being tempted to believe that god doesn't care god doesn't care well if god cared about me why did this happen and and and and and and god if you really cared and sometimes we have to really watch how we we really have to watch how we pray because sometimes our prayer is kind of like god i'm i'm going to help you god if you knew this and god if you'll do that and god if you'll just move on this man to do this and god if you'll move on that man and that woman come on now that ain't praying that's becoming god's counselor you got to believe that god knows enough to know how to straighten things out in our lives we'd be better just simply say god i'm hurting god i need your help god i need you in my life god because the biggest temptation you will face when you're going through your trial is to somehow not not believe that he's god but god do you really care do you really care in first peter chapter 5 and verse number seven first peter 5 and 7. i'd like for us to read it all out loud together and i'll start it casting all your care upon him you hear that you hear that casting all your care why should i cast my care upon him why why should i cast my care of on him why oh he's he's god and he's able to do exceedingly abundantly above yeah he's god he keep you safe and if i reference yes he's god he keep you safe in the lion's den yeah he's god and he can bring bread yeah yeah yeah yeah but why you know why we ought to cast our care upon him not because he can answer but because he careth for you about you god's not always going to answer you the way you want to be answered god's not always going to gonna going to arrange things in your life just the way that you want them to be arranged but you've got to wake up every morning of your life and quote this scripture i'm testing my anxiety upon you i'm casting my pain upon you god because god i know you care about me i know you care what a god today what a god whose name is jesus that he cares about us today god's got a future for you oh yes he does god's got a future for you god's got a future for you he put his spirit inside of you he made an investment in you god's got a future for you god's got a future for you he made an investment in you he left heaven broke himself in flesh enter the world of time and pain all because he wanted to invest in you and i he made an investment in us he cares about us has god listen to me today church has god brother troy has god brought us this far to leave us i say no how many of you all of us have stories we could tell but you know that you know that you know that god is in your life how many of you have those stories that you could just tell today that god has spent time in mark chapter 4 verse 35 and i want to bring notice to verse 35. there's 41 verses in mark chapter 4. 34 of those verses 34 of the verses in mark 4. jesus is pouring into the disciples he's pouring into them he's pouring his word into them he's putting words in parables he's establishing it for 34 verses matter of fact it just gives us 34 verses but the timeline of chapter 4 it was an all-day bible study it was an all-day bible study pouring his word into them why is he pouring his word into them because they are going to take and birth the church they're going to they're going to be the apostles and the disciples they've got works to do antioch means the gospel the four corners of the earth so he spins jesus spends all day pouring himself into them and he comes to verse 35. and the same day when the even had come he saith unto them let us pass over unto the other side and when they had sent away the multitude they took him even as he was in the ship and there were also with him other little ships and there arose a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full jesus was in the hinder part of the ship asleep on a pillow and they awake him and say unto him master carest thou not that we perish right there is where the enemy wants you in your storm right there that one phrase if he can get us in that one phrase do you care about us do you even care about what i'm going through right now god you know god right now it'd be a good time for you to give me an extra chill bump you know right now god it'd be a good time for you to for you to do something that i would know you were god right now would be a real good time for something to happen miraculous god because after all i'm in the midst of the storm and don't you care about us wait a minute do you think i would waste all day long to let you die in this storm do you think i would have spent the whole part of the day trying to establish you on the word only to let a storm capsize this boat and i would have to start all over again come on church have more faith in god than that god does care about you but what god wants you to do in the midst of your storm is remember the word that you were given in the daytime i will never leave you nor ever forsake you remember the scripture in psalms he that keepeth israel neither slumbers nor sleeps right now i know the waves are beating into your boat right now i know your knees are buckling it and you can't perceive god you can't understand god but somehow by the help of the holy ghost he does care about you he does care about you as a matter of fact let me tell you you feel like he's a million miles away but can i tell you today he's closer to you right now than he has ever been in all of your life as a matter of fact you're not walking he's carrying you right now it's a matter of fact he's the one that puts you to sleep come on pay him with a thunderous praise to the almighty god today oh hallelujah master do you not care that we perish he arose rebuke the wind said to the sea peace be still the wind ceased and was a great calm and he said unto them why are you so fearful how is it that you have no faith and they feared exceedingly and said one to another what manner of man is this that even the wind and the sea obey him can i tell you and it may be hard for you to fathom today but god can use your storm god can use your storm brother steve wilson sister pat wilson they said the day that that man and woman set on the bank at that lake and watch the rescue squad probing the bottom of that lake for their boy they told that when they finally snagged and brought patrick to the surface brother wilson was clawing at the ground and a big state trooper came and just hugged him just picked him up and just hugged him days went by there was a funeral there was a burial but the lord spoke to him and the lord simply said no don't waste your storm don't waste your storm what do you mean god don't waste your storm what do you mean do something with the storm so brother steve this is to pat wilson are the founders of the loss of a child conference hundreds have gathered since that day and have found solace and the comfort and the presence of others because they didn't waste the storm it's hard for you to believe right now sister brenda it's hard for you to believe right now elder brother or it's hard for you to believe right now lisa it's hard for you to believe hard for you to believe but if we'll hold on to the hand of god in the days to come we will see him in a measure that we've never seen him before it's hard to believe that if we can hold on to the grace of god and the caringness of god that there'll come a day that you'll look back and you'll be able to see god carried me what manner of man is this by musicians and our singers would come brother erickson if you would brother hammond if you would get the bottles of oil and get my prayer cloths today if you'll come and stand down in the front of the pulpit on the altar area i want to close with just a few final verses of scripture isaiah 46 in verse number three isaiah 46 and verse number 3. hearken unto me o house of jacob and all the remnant of israel which are born by me from the belly which are carried from the womb and even to your old age i am he and even to hairs will i carry you i have made and i will bear even will i carry and will deliver you folks are you hearing the promises of god today god says to you who so greet baron i saw you when you were in your mother's womb i was there when the doctor said it's a girl it's a boy i watched you cut your teeth i watch you go through school i watch you graduate i carried you and now that you're in the crisis of your life i want to tell you that even to your old age i am he even to your hair that's that's white hair well i carry you i have made i will bear i will even carry and i will deliver i don't know about you but that's not only the best that i can give you today but that's more than we need today to be able to make it through our dilemma isaiah 26 and 3. isaiah 26 and 3. listen to god thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee i will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee you see in the midst i'm not telling you that you're not to think about the disaster but somewhere in the midst of that disaster you've got to take a break and say god i know that you love me god i know that you care i bless your name lord i praise your name lord trust in the lord forever in the lord jehovah is everlasting strength the last verse second chronicles chapter 6 and verse 29. solomon prays the dedication of the house of god he begins to list along and begins to list a lot of things that could happen disasters death and how we are to respond to that he says in verse 29 then what prayer or what supplication so ever shall be made of any man or of any of thy people israel when everyone shall know his own sore and his own grief he's in this house is made for people that have got grief well what do i do when i come into this house and shall spread forth his hands in this house then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place and forgive and render unto every man according to all his ways whose hearts thou knowest for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men he
