fourteen-year-old son just walked down here see the Holy Ghost well let's just let's just raise our hands in let's worship God I'm gonna read my text in just a moment come on and raise your hands standing here at 7:59 in your house Lord your worship and to praise You God y'all doing the word anointed to our hearts tonight Jesus name we pray amen you may be seated it's gonna be just a little bit different tonight holy habits holy habits coordinate Daniel Webster a habit is a usual way of behaving something that a person does often in a regular and repeated way it goes on to add some a sentence or two it's a strong need to use the drug I guess that's why sometimes they'll say they have a drug habit they have a drug habit or a smoking habit that's a habit and of course that is Daniel Webster's definition of habit Kenneth carpenters definition of habit a thought a word or an action that is repeated so often that it becomes second nature you really know it's a habit when you do it so often either a thought a word or a deed an action that is repeated so many times that it becomes second nature becomes second nature some people use profanity they use profanity and they're not even mad they're not even mad because they just have used and repeated profanity so much it's just second nature someone has to tell them hey you're in the presence of children or and in most the time when you tell someone that they'll they'll pilot hole I'm sorry I didn't I didn't realize that that they didn't because it's a habit that has become Belarus in just second nature there's actually three categories of habits you could fall into and I'm going to teach on one there is obviously a bad habit right there's bad habits a bad habit would be eating fried food until it becomes second nature it's a bad habit right why is eating fried food repeatedly over and over a bad habit come on now warm back up now but that our was one Sunday night I might even get I might not even get Monday morning here but keep going it's not good for you right not good for you it's a bad habit and opposite a bad habit would be what good habit good habits good habits is getting enough rest at least five nights a week right it's a good habit getting it getting in that rest a good habit a good habit would be asking the waiter not to bring the bushel basket of bread to the table right right yeah good habit you'd have it would good habit will be exercised right often often it's a good habit but the third habit I want to talk about tonight is holy habits holy habits a holy habit and we are wonderfully blessed tonight because the Word of God informs us many many many events that turned out awesome in people's lives the Bible's full of events that turned out awesome in people's lives it was good for them and it brought glory to God that's a win-win right when it's good for you and it's good for God's glory the Bible repeatedly tells us of people the things turned out so awesome and all they had to do was practice holy habits so they had to do all they had to do for it to turn out all right was to continually practice holy habits you've got to practice those habits when you see no change on the horizon because you are not going to be inspired by your environment you're going to be inspired by what you're doing that you know is right amen for example Luke chapter 1 verse number 5 there was in the days of Herod we could preach right there for a while there was in the days of Mary go back and research the days of Herod parallel them with the days we're living in gross immorality reigned in the days of Herod there was in the days of Herod so we cannot let our culture be our excuse for us not developing holy habits they were in the days there was in the days of Herod the king of Judea a certain priest named Zacharias of the course of Abia and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron and her name was Elizabeth and they were both righteous before God walking walking ing walking that that's a habit IMG walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly and they had no child because that Elizabeth was barren and they were were now well and they were both were now well stricken in age so they've had no child they are beyond the natural ability to produce the child they're well stricken in years and it came to pass that while he exits you did the priest office before God in the order of his course according to the custom of the priests office now that word trust them there is the word habit does the word habit they just used custom we use the word habit when they wanted to talk about something that was repeated when they would talk about a word and act the deed that was repeated over and over again they said that's a custom that's a custom and so according to the custom of the priests office his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord and the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of the incense now let's look at all this because nothing should stop us from practicing holy habits Elizabeth Zechariah were both spiritual individuals they were righteous they were walking in all the commandments of God but there was a prayer that had not been answered and that prayer was they wanted to have a child but that prayer had never been answered up to this time see too many times we have a habit as long as we see the possibility of getting our answer but God is wanting us to develop habits that when we step beyond the limit and our reasoning goes out and we begin to say it would be impossible that's when God looks down and said says when you still practice the habit are you still willing to pray are you still willing to believe believe God for your lost children believe God for your lost children if you're here tonight without your may believe God for the salvation of your mate believe your trust God I don't care how far they get out there I don't care what they say or what they do you just keep on practicing a holy habit that I'm believing they're going to come in one day I'm believing things are going to change one day huh I'm just believing that this is going to be there well stricken in age but as his habit was he grabbed an incense he walked into the temple to begin to burn incense what which was a type of prayer he is not a young man praying his voice is not vibrant he is not leaping up and down like he had done in former years his feet are shuffling now his shoulders are bent his hair is turned gray he is well stricken in age he has not the vibrant voice of a teenage teenager he has a rather rough voice that you can tell time has worn away but thank God he practiced a holy having a prayer I watched tonight of the prayer room man what a wonderful day even thought even thought on a Wednesday night prayer room is full of people praying all over the prayer room coming and going and praying then I was so blessed to watch that white-headed brother Skinner making his way around the room lay man he's got that he's got the biggest hands he his hands about wrap around I mean he he'd lay his hands they go all the way down my arm so he didn't lay his hands on you pray for you I saw him over there praying for brother Amin's tonight I saw him over praying for different ones and didn't take long I felt him as he put his hands on me you know something that's the kind of stuff legends are made of because even though his hair may be white and he may not have the stamina that he once had he is still practicing a holy habit a prayer can you see Zacharias with me can you see him in the temple I wonder if there wasn't a day that he could hold the incense container with one hand but now I probably seen with two as he's burning that incense before the Lord wide headed shoulders stooped as he says Jehovah I love you you can tell the time is sanded away at his voice but the Bible says in verse number 11 and there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense and when Zechariah saw him he was troubled and fear fell upon him but the angel said unto Him fear not Zacharias for thy prayer is heard and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son and thou shalt call his name John oh my I wonder how many times brother lawless Zacharias got discouraged we might as well accept we might as well accept you we're never going to have a child we're Muslim except if things are never going to turn around but that man as his habit was would go into the temple strike the match like the incense go ahead and wave it in the presence of God but on this day God said Zacharias your holy habit of prayer is going to pay off because he said your prayer has been heard don't stop praying when you don't get your answer pray until you get your answer don't stop praying yeah I don't care how worse it get out of Kabaddi yes don't stop pray John or the zecharias the whole story is that's all I want to take out of that but I could go ahead and tell you the whole story that's where we get John the Baptist from he's because a man had a holy habit of praying we don't stop there let's go to Luke chapter 2 verse number 25 Jesus has been born he is an eighth day old infant Joseph and Mary make their way to have him circumcised on the eighth day as they make their way into the place of circumcision which was the temple the Bible says in Luke 2:25 and behold there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon and the same man was just and devout waiting for the consolation of Israel and the Holy Ghost was upon him and it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ sings like that around the birth of Jesus is surrounded by some elderly people that had holy habits it's a Zechariah that just keeps on prayed a holy habit and he gets his John the Baptist it was a man an elderly man by the name of Simeon the Holy Ghost had talked to him and the Holy Ghost had said you'll not die until you see the Lord's Christ he lived every day he turned he turned birthday after birthday knowing that one day before he closed his eyes and death he would lay his eyes upon the Lord's Christ and the Bible said and he came by the spirit into the temple and when the parents brought in the Child Jesus to do for him after the custom of the law or the habit of the word can I tell you if you can put faithfulness into the presence of the word it is like having a flame around gasoline there will be an explosion give me someone tonight that knows the value of the Word of God give me somebody tonight that has deeply inside their heart something that tells them God has his hand upon me God's going to do something with my life you give me a Simeon and then you give me somebody that does after the custom of the word and I'll show you a meeting of an intersection I'll show you a meeting and so here comes Mary and Joseph bringing the Child Jesus for to do for him after the custom or the habit of the law then took he up again then he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said Lord now let us die thou thy servant depart in peace according to your word for my eyes have seen thy salvation look at that you've got a faithful Simeon and you couple him with the habit of the Word of God he grabs the Christ child Jesus and hears his prayer Lord I can die now heart not just to have a visit with God but to have a habit of having a visit with God I pray tonight that I'm inspiring you not to look for an experience with God but to come here service after service after service with no end in sight knowing that I have put got on no timeline I have not painted God in any corner I have not told God if you don't move by this time next year next month I'm out of here but give me somebody that just simply knows if I practice holy habits I will eventually hold the Lord's Christ in my hand should you praise Him right now with could you praise him right now with me well let's continue on Luke chapter 2 verse 36 there's a commotion in one end of the temple and in verse number 36 the Bible said and there it was one Anna a prophetess the daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of ASER she was of great Asia I don't think this is a coincidence that all of these things that mark that was surrounded the birth of Christ has to do with people of great age because I believe the Holy Ghost is trying to tell us something about developing holy habits habits that go with us in our young married life habits that go with us in our mid years habits to go with us when we're training our children habits that go with us when they leave the nest habits that go with us to the grave she was a great age had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity she was a widow of about four score and four years which departed not from the temple but served God with fastings and prayers night and day sounds like a holy have it to me she didn't depart from the temple I don't have I don't have thee I don't have the I don't have anything to offer other than face value she never departed from the temple day and night you can find her and in the temple fasting and praying she coming in at that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord and spake unto him to all of him to all them that looked for the redemption in Jerusalem some could have looked at her and said can you believe Ana is wasting her life in that temple she's there day and night in prayers what good is it going to do can I tell you the Bible says one day in the temple he's worth a thousand you know I just believe that the rapture of the church the old song comes to my mind right now it's going to be worth it all it's going to be worth it all it's going to be worth it all some beautiful happy day you think about it we do have some things rough right now we do have some things that are not comfortable going on in our lives right now as we go from childhood adulthood as we grow as we grow old we have some things that are not the best but can I tell you that when that trumpet sounds and when the mortal puts on immortality in that moment friend will forget the form of things of this world there'll be nobody up in heaven complaining about all we had to do there'll be nobody up there saying you ought to you ought to see what my pastor put us through let me tell you something we'll just be talking about look at the great deal we caught and we did so little we give so little hope I think we oughta praise him right now we need so little and we got so much always somebody help me praise Him right now Luke chapter 241 verse 41 then just a few verses you must understand that twelve years have passed a few verses ago he was an 8-year old infant waiting to be circumcised a few verses later he's a 12 year old boy now his parents went up to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover now his parents went up to the to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover how often did they go up how often did they go up sounds like Joseph and Mary had a habit of going up how often they went up every year at the Feast of the Passover and when he was twelve years old they went up to Jerusalem after the sounds like that God all through the Bible wants us to develop some habits you know that's why we got all these feast days in the Old Testament because God said I want you to get in the habit of celebrating I want you to celebrate me often we ought to celebrate him more than we celebrate any other thing in our lives I don't believe God has anything against any of the men being hunters in this church but you better celebrate God's presence more than you do that book I don't believe that God has anything against you the women haven't habits or having things they celebrate they get happy about but you better get happy far more about being in the presence of God then you do that half off sale down it belts that's right I'm gonna let that sink in a little bit cuz that's the truth brother fuller you know and go golfing and you know I've been with y'all it's it's it's just a boring game to watch trying to learn the terminology shank that when is everything I said right shame shame that one and shank means it goes to the right it's all right that's right and then hook that means bless that's right shame right they hit the ball you know I can see it can't it wow you know and they're like bird dogs you know you know what I look at their faces if they're happy even with the right direction if they start you know like their lips turn in almost and the nose comes down they'd hit it right you know and but always Mike and Nolan always keep God's joy I mean a God in one is better than a hole in one anytime keep that joy keep that joy god help us to be as protective of our Bibles that we are our hunting rifles sound like his parents had a custom they had a habit of going to the feast and when they had fulfilled the days as they returned the child jesus Terry behind in Jerusalem can I tell you something this part of the story gets way more preached about than what the story was about the story was about Joseph and Mary were faithful to God's house leaving him behind was just something that happened but the Golden Nugget is what is produced by faithfulness yes they went three days yes they went back and they found him verse 46 it came to pass after three days they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the doctors both hearing them and asking them questions and all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers can I tell you at twelve years old there were old strives that went home that day and they said mama you ain't gonna believe is a 12 year old boy come wandering in you won't believe the knowledge that 12-year old boy had you won't believe I really believe it I believe it was old scribes with beards down to their billy buddies they went home that day said mama you ought to be in there I'll just sit down and eat your fish no I'm y'all have been there as twelve-year-old kid come in I said he sit down and never a kid SPECT like this kid I'm telling you I believe there was something special but it would have never been it would have never been produced had not his mom and dad had the holy habit of going to the house of God but it don't stop there it doesn't stop there verse number 48 says and when she saw him when Mary saw Jesus and when they saw him they were amazed and his mother said unto him son why hast thou thus dealt with us behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing and he said unto them how is it that you sought me wist you not that I must be about my father's business and they understood not to saying which he spake unto them and he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was subject unto him unto them but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart can I tell you faithfulness will give you something that will warm your heart o friend Mary went home with her twelve year old son and something on the inside of her heart that kept warming her heart now with just a couple of chapters Luke chapter 4 verse number 16 just a couple of chapters we take him from being an eight year old infant to be circumcised to a 12 year old son that is astounding a 12 year old child that is astounding them with his wisdom now he is a thirty year old man he is thirty years old in Luke 4:16 and he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up and as his custom was he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up for to read can I tell us all tonight moms and dads young mother with that baby on your lap tonight can I tell you keep bringing that child to the house of God keep bringing that child to the house of God bring them bring them when you have them on your lap bring them when they're old enough to sit beside you keep bringing them to the house of God when they get their driver's license watch and protect them don't let them get jobs try to keep them from getting jobs that keep them out of the house of the Lord don't be faithful sixteen years of their life and then blow it on their 16th birthday keep bringing them to the house of God as long as they're under your roof keep bringing them to the house of God keep bringing them to the house of God because one day they're going to be 30 and you're not there Joseph and Mary's not there right now if Jesus all by himself but guess what when the Sabbath day gone he walked into the synagogue why because that was simply his custom and there was delivered unto Him the book of the Prophet I say and when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written the Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives and the recovery of sight to the blind to set at liberty them that are bruised to preach the acceptable year of the Lord and he closed the book and gave it again to the minister and set down the eyes of them all that were in the synagogue were fastened on him and he began to say unto them this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears he came into the temple at 30 years old with when they had an old Old Testament role of scriptures there it had now it had not it had not proclaimed one bit of good news it had not delivered one captive no blind had received their sight it was an old word but he walked in and he said I've got the habit of coming to church and I am here to activate this right now I am here to activate this word right now you know what there's nothing wrong with the god of Elijah we need to find some Elijah's of God there's nothing wrong with the God of the Bible we need to find some holy people with holy habits that can come in in a holy place and say it's time for the blind to see it's time for things to start changing it's time for the captive to be set free it's kind of a miracle sighs do you believe that tonight do you believe we can develop holy habits if you believe it would you shout yes I believe it but do you know we have to first start with our thoughts you will never have holy actions until you have holy thoughts the battlefield is our thoughts the battlefield is our thoughts holy thoughts if you're going to have a holy habit let's begin with holy thoughts holy thoughts would be in Psalms 19 verse number 14 this is the Beast let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight O Lord my strength and my Redeemer do you know that God knows your thoughts tonight do you know that God knows the thoughts that you have tonight God knows the thoughts that you have see we want to be protected we want to be protected that man doesn't know our thoughts but do you know how you shortchange yourself when all you concern yourself we as no one knows my thoughts but you see the God that can help you knows your thoughts he knows your thoughts he knows what you're thinking right now he knows your thoughts and David said let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight O Lord my strength and my Redeemer God let my thoughts be acceptable in your sight tonight no help from the Lord comes if I false are not acceptable in his thought in his sight Hebrews chapter four verse number twelve says for the word of God is quick that word quick there means alive for the word of God is alive and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and the marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart can I tell you please please understand something that I can't help you I cannot help you I do not have the ability to help you what I'm doing tonight is the only way I can help you it's the only way the only way that I can help you you see some people give up on church because well it didn't help me well they didn't help you because you're looking for the wrong one to help you if you look for a man to help you you will always be disappointed because man cannot help you he might motivate you he might give you a good counseling session he might give you some good steps but if you don't allow God to help you with your thoughts because he can judge thoughts and the intents of your heart there's something we need to start working on tonight it's holy thoughts we got to start having holy thoughts because God can read those thoughts 1st Corinthians chapter 3 verse 20 I believe it is first Corinthians chapter 3 verse 20 and again the Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise he knows those thoughts that amazes me I've known this but I'm refreshing myself tonight that God knows I thought second Corinthians chapter 10 verse number 3 for though we walk in the flesh we do not war after the flesh for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal that means that what we fight with is not fleshly but mighty through God our weapons are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds a stronghold is a place that the enemy has dug into they have dug into it it isn't called a stronghold in World War 1 the Japanese built what was called pillboxes and that's where they they pour concrete and they could get into these bunkers and only have a place that was wide enough to put a gun out and they were safe to shoot it would be considered a stronghold to the pulling down of strongholds what is strongholds casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience when your obedience full-field you know why people act out ugly they first have ugly thoughts do you know why people cannot break ugly habits because of ugly thoughts ugly thoughts lead to ugly habits they kill me to have it out of how to explain this is that your mind is like a yard grass and you know if you walk across we got to walk way in the driveway but if you decide to start walking through the grass to go to the road you may get by with it once you may get by with it once you may walk across it and look back and can't tell where you want but if you make a habit of walking across that yard sooner or later you're going to wear a path and once you wear a path you can take a wheelbarrow across that yard and it has a little resistance because it's meeting the grass but you keep rolling that wheelbarrow and I have it over and over you wear a path and guess what it becomes easy it becomes easier to row that wheelbarrow the same way with our thoughts we let up we let our thought come through our mind and if we you know it's not a sin I've also said this it's not a sin to have a bad thought it's a sin to allow it to stay there you see some thoughts are like birds flying over your head you can't help they come they just come across your mind and but you can't keep the bird from flying over your head but you can stop him from building a nest in your hair and there's some thoughts you may not stop but you can stop when that thought comes - there's a my god but I think that Lord Jesus then start examining yourselves what was i listening to what was i talking about because when we begin to talk negative and we begin to talk about things that Satan can come in you just look when he begins to find him a pathway all of a sudden all these thoughts start coming to our mind they'll start wearing past and then in our mind just becomes like a connection of interstates that one word triggers this and I go down that another word triggers that or a sight of this triggers that can I tell you that I believe that God wants us to do to create holy thoughts to where we said no no sinful thought no no you're not staying there no you come out of there in the name of Jesus I will not think that thought I will not allow myself to think come on let's get real with everybody tonight come on let's get real with everybody tonight we've all had those thoughts but the difference between an overcomer and a defeated run somebody stands up and says not no no it's not staying there in the name of Jesus check out of there in the name of Jesus come what was i listening to but what was I talking about how did that thought get there Jeremiah chapter 4 verse number 14 Jeremiah 4 verse number 14 Oh Jerusalem wash thine heart from wickedness that thou may us be saved how long shall by vain thoughts Lodge within thee God said to Israel and Jeremiah's day you need to wash your brains your brains are dirty they have dirty thoughts inside you need to wash you need to wash your brain there's nothing that can wash your thoughts like having God thoughts there's nothing that can wash your thoughts like having God's Word and God thoughts when you have the thought that you have that your sins are still there combative with the Word of God no my sins are not still there I might have a memory of that sin but I don't have the guilt with that sin why is that I'm telling you why it is because the Bible says that were baptized for the remission of sins and if any man be in Christ he is a new creature old things have passed away and behold all things are new if you came to God at 40 years old and you live just a sinful sinful sinful life and you have found this glorious mind washing powerful gospel then you can split you up every morning not regretting the 40 years you spent in sin but looking ahead to how many more years you've got and know that you're a new creature in Christ Jesus I'm talking about holy thoughts now already oh I can't peek you out I can't pick you out tonight but already already this thought has already been in the mind of somebody tonight that doesn't work for me that doesn't work for me and do you know as a man thinketh in his heart if you think it doesn't work you're right if you think it does work you're right it's just which side of the right do you want to be on I would rather be on my thoughts are not your thoughts and my ways are not your ways I'd rather be on okay I am a new creature there is something good going to happen in my future I don't know how long I've got to keep coming to church but I'm gonna come to the day that I die with my eye on the horizon knowing that something good is gonna happen to me the child of God you won't walk very long until the scenery will begin to change and God will begin to show you how beautiful musicians when she come thoughts can keep you back from your miracle thoughts can keep you back from your miracle naming is dying of leprosy naman is dying of leprosy the little maiden girl tells his wife if my master was in Israel there's a prophet of God there naming in 2nd Kings chapter 5 and verse number 9 shows up at the man of God's door so naman came with his horses and with his chariot and stood at the door of the house of Elijah and Elisha sent a messenger unto him saying go wash in Jordan seven times and thy flesh shall come again to thee and thou shalt be clean but naman was wrong and went away and said behold I thought I thought he would surely come out to me and strike and stand call on the name of the Lord his God strike his hand over the place and recover the leprosy and are not a banna and far part rivers of Damascus better than all the rivers of Israel may I not wash him them and be clean so he turned and went away in a rage I thought do you know people's thoughts keeps them from having a miracle well I just don't think this is how church ought to be well I my thoughts of churches not people spinning around and dancing in the old I just thought I'm hungry for God but I've come to a madhouse I submit to you there's been untold numbers that have come hungry and left and died because they thought they thought they've been those just like naming Matt red-faced beaten those horses on his way out tell me to go washing that dirty River I thought thank God somebody came to him and tried to reason with him I said hey man if he'd asked you to do something real hard you'd have done it why don't you just go down and do it it convinced him to go wash seven times and when he did he came up cleansed of his leprosy lived out the rest of his life without leprosy the Bible tells us about Philip went down to Samaria was a man there by the name of Simon the sorcerer he had bewitched the people giving out that he was some great one he had him under some lead was a drug and dispelled Philip came to town preaching the gospel the city believed the name of Jesus repented and was baptized in the Bible says Simon believed also and was baptized Peter and John came down from Jerusalem and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost and Peter and John laid their hands on them and the Samaritans received the Holy Ghost but the Bible says when Simon saw that through the laying on of the hands the Holy Ghost was given he said Peter how much money would it take for me to buy that gift then upon whomsoever I laid my hands and I'm going to tell you this is the first sign of the commercialization of the gospel how much money would it take for me to have that gift that on whomsoever I laid my hands they may receive the Holy Ghost also he didn't want to give people the Holy Ghost he wanted to sell people the Holy Ghost he turned around and he asked Peter that and Peter said you're going to hell you're going to hell and your money's going to hell with you you're going to hell and when Peter told Simon he was going to hell he was going to perish Peter said I'm gonna tell you why you're gonna perish because you have thought that the power of God could be bought can I tell you thoughts can keep you from your miracle or thoughts can put you right in the midst of your miracle that's what you wanted that's what you want to do but when I think about the Lord
