It's amazing to me how the Lord orchestrates a service and seems like that I keep picking up on in my spirit the word worthy. The word worthy. From the very beginning, we heard the word worthy. Worthy. Of course, when you mention the word worthy, you're talking also about worth. Worth. When you talk about worship, you're talking about worth. Worth. You know, there's a lot of price tags that I look at in life, maybe at a restaurant or what have you, a clothing store, and I'll look at that price tag, and I simply say, "It's not worth it. It's not worth it." There's other things I have looked at at a time or two and looked at it and said, "I can't afford it." But you see, when we start thinking about the Lord, he is worthy and he is worth it. And I'm so thankful today that you've come to the house of the Lord. Uh there's a lot of guests here and I've had a a number of saints come. Brother Cartman, my cousin's here, my dad's here, and and all of that. And oh, how I would like to meet you personally and shake your hand. So, if you could just put your hand out like this, let's shake today. All right. It's so good to have you. So good to have you at First Apostolic. And I I do hope before the days out that we can meet personally and uh tell you how thankful that I am. Let's go. Matthew chapter 26 and verse number 36. Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto his disciples, "Sit ye here while I go and pray yonder." And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and begin to be, underline this word, sorrowful, and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, "My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death, tear you here, and watch with me." He went a little further and fell on his face and prayed, saying, "Oh my father, oh my father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me." Nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou will. Father, in the name of Jesus, today I ask you to touch my heart, touch my mind. Help me by way of the Holy Ghost to articulate your word today. Help me to spread the seed of your word across this vast congregation. Lord Jesus, today I do ask you, Lord, to not only touch those that are here, but Father, remember Sister Linda Thompson today. God, touch her. Lord, remember Brother Newberry that lost his father this week. God, remember Colleen Wood and several of the members of this church that are suffering with disease in their body. Lord, move upon them today in the name of Jesus Christ, we all pray. Did everybody say amen? Amen. You may be seated this morning. I want to minister for just a few moments today on the subject the ingredients. The ingredients for the resurrection. The ingredients for the resurrection. If you many of you that are greeted this morning, I have nothing against the word Easter. The word Easter is in the Bible. I have nothing against the word Easter. But I greeted many of you by saying today, happy resurrection day. Happy resurrection day. Because I fear, like many celebrated days, that we can focus on the wrong thing and not on what we're really here to celebrate today. I thank God for all the festivities that have been planned. I thank God for the opportunity to have our uh family photo in in the uh in the the lobby. I I thank God for all of that. But we're here this morning for only one reason. To celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To celebrate it. To celebrate. Now, the most powerful thing about Jesus Christ, the God man, the most powerful thing about him, the God man, is how he relates to our life's struggles. How he relates to our sorrows. Can I get a witness today? Anybody have struggles in the house today? Oh, you may not want to raise your hand, but I I think the word struggle could be all through the congregation. We have struggles. And if you're here today and uh you've not had any struggles or sorrows uh just live another couple of days and uh you'll relate to what the sorrows and the struggles with of life. But uh that's the wonderful thing about Jesus Christ that I preach about today is how Jesus Christ the God man relates to our sorrows and to our struggles. I uh think today about a song and I've got it all out here and you'll know in just a moment that I'm not a singer, but I love the song. What a friend we have in Jesus. What a friend we have in Jesus. All our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer. Oh, what peace we often forfeit. Oh, what needless pain we bear all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged. Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness. Take it to the Lord in prayer. Wonderful thing about our savior today, the God man, Jesus Christ, is how he relates to our sorrow. I'm speaking today on the ingredients of the resurrection. What it took to get the resurrection, what it took to have this celebration today. And the first ingredient that I'm going to add is sorrow. We wouldn't have a resurrection. There would be no resurrection. There would be no celebration had he not the God man came and identified with our sorrow. Well, listen to the prophet Isaiah. Hundreds of years before Bethlehem's manger. Hundreds of years before Jesus Christ, God, the God man, would walk this earth. Isaiah 53 and three. This is what the prophet Isaiah and God said, "Look out for him. Here's how you'll identify with him. This is what you're to look for in Messiah. This is what you're to look for in the Savior. He is despised and rejected of men. a man of what, church? Sorrows and acquainted with grief. We hid as it were our faces from him. He was despised and we esteemed him not. That's why I'm going to praise him. I'm going to try to make up for past generations that didn't give him the glory and the honor that he is that he is due. Surely, look at verse four. This is what you need to look for. Surely he hath borne, that means carried. He hath borneed our griefs and carried our sorrows. Yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Think about that today. Think about here's what you look for. He's despised and rejected. He's coming to carry our griefs and our sorrows. He's coming to carry our This is how we identify because he's come to carry something that you and I cannot carry on our own. We're not made to carry them. Human humans were not made to carry the results of sin. Humans were not made to carry what sin has brought into our world. But thank God for a savior this morning that came and said, "I'm gonna carry what you can't carry. I'm going to bear what you can't bear. When you can't bear it anymore, turn it over to me. I can bear it for you. When you can't cope with life anymore, don't turn to any other thing, church, but turn to me." I uh I love First Peter chapter 5 and verse number seven. It's one of my favorite scripture. It says, "Casting all your care upon him, for he carth for you." I like it. See, he said, "Casting all your care because we divide life in minor and major events." We divi we we define life in this is important, this is not important. Can I tell you if it bothers you, it bothers him. If it's upsetting to you, it's upsetting to him if you will learn to look at that word again with me. Casting. Casting. The word casting there. If you'll study the word out, it's the same word that a farmer would use in the Bible days. It's the same word that a farmer would use when he took a handful of seed and he would throw the seed into the ground. He would cast the seed. It's the It's the same word. And the imagery there should be the same. We ought to sew our sorrow into our savior. We ought to implant our sorrow, our sorrows and our grief. We ought to sew it into him and see what he can grow out of my life's mess. See what he can grow. It would amaze you what God can grow out of your sorrow. It would amaze you. It would absolutely amaze you what could be conceived in this room today and birthed later on because you decided on Easter 2025. I've carried this sorrow long enough. I've carried this grief long enough. I've carried this long enough. I've tried this and I've tried that and none of it has helped me. It's only got me deeper in the mess that I'm already in. But on this resurrection Sunday, I'm going to cast my sorrow. I'm going to sew my sorrow into him. Would you give him a hand of praise right now? You and I both witnessed people who keep their sorrows within cover them up. They put a suit on. They put a tie on. They put a smile on their face. They get them a self-help book from a library or a bookstore, how to how to be successful and how to uh reach life's goal. And there's nothing wrong with that. But that will never suffice your life if deep within your heart there is sorrow. It would never suffice. I've seen people and you have too that have covered up their sorrow with a smile and a front and maybe they become successful in life and drive the right car and live in the right neighborhood and they become rich and famous. But all these people grow old and they regret and they die way before their time. I've seen people and you have also that have cast their sorrow into the wrong people into the wrong place and into the wrong thing. Social media is full of people sewing their sorrows. You know, they'll they'll sew their sorrows all over social media. He can't help you. He didn't say cast your cares upon social media. He said cast your care upon me. I've seen people put their sorrows in the wrong if I could just get married to this one or if I if I could just get unmarried to that one. You know, I I've seen them try to sew their seeds in a lot of places. Doesn't help you. You can marry the number 10. You can marry Mr. Millionaire and all of that, but they can't help you. I've seen them think that what they needed for their life was a relocation. I've seen them do all kinds of things. But can I tell you today as a minister of Jesus Christ that he is the only fertile soil that will grow anything that can change your life. Jesus Christ is that only fertile soil. I want to prove that to you today and invite your attention to the book of John chapter 16 verse 20. Let's listen to Jesus. Let's listen to him. He's trying to tell the disciples, I'm I'm going to go away. And uh I want you to know that when I go away, some things are going to happen. And he says in John 16 and 20, he says, "Verily, verily, I say unto you that ye shall weep and lament." He's talking about the crucifixion, what what they're going to do to him. He said, "You will weep and lament, but the world will re shall rejoice, and ye shall be, here's that word, sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy." He said, "Now, crucifixion day is coming. You're going to see me taken like never before. You've never seen me arrested. You've never seen me beaten with the cat of nine tales. You've never seen blood coming out of my back and down streaming down my face. You've never seen me stumbling through the streets carrying a cross. You've never seen me like this. And when you see me like this, Mother Mary, when you see me like this, you're going to weep. Peter, James, and John, disciples, you're going to weep and lament. But in the midst of your weeping, there's going to be a world that's going to be rejoicing. There's going to be people that are going to be rejoicing because of this. But Jesus says, "But your sorrow," look at the end of that verse. Verse 20, "But your sorrow shall be turned," I wish you would help me today. Read with me, "Your sorrow shall be turned into joy." What is he going to do? He's going to take the sorrow and he's going to turn it into joy. If you sew your sorrow in the right field, not the wrong person or the wrong place or the wrong thing, but you sew your sorrow in the right fertile field of the resurrected Savior today. I want you to know it's it's it's it's planting time here this morning. I want you to know that my hopes as a preacher this morning is to get you to identify, yes, Brother Carpenter, I put on a good front today, but I'm a woman full of sorrow. I'm a man full of struggle. I'm a person full of grief. I'm a person full of bitterness. I've got good news for you today. The ground is ready. The ground is fertile. And if you can take your joy and your your your your sorrow and cast it into that soil. I want to see if let's see if this uh casting the seed in the ground, it will be turned into joy. Verse 21. Look at the analogy. Sister Carpenter, look at the analogy that Jesus uses. He says in chapter 16 verse 21, "A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come, but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she rememberth no more the anguish for the joy that a man is born into the world. and ye now therefore have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. Can I tell you today that only Jesus can take your sorrow and create a joy that you won't remember how sorrowful you were. You're not going to live a life of regret. You're going to live a life of rejoicing. You're not going to live a life of regret. You're going to live a life of rejoicing and praising God. Somebody say, "Amen." Amen. Well, I got to go back to my text today. Matthew 26:37 was part of the text. Matthew 26:37. He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, which was James and John, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then he saith unto them, "My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death. Tear ye here and and watch with me." Can can I tell you today that he took people with him in his sorrow? He he took people with him in his sorrow. Community is vitally important for your salvation and spiritual development in the kingdom of God. Community, he said, I I am bearing a load of sorrow so much that I'm at the point to die. I I've got such despair upon me. I've got such sorrow upon me. And he gathered a community of people. It's very needful that you surround yourself with people that have Jesus Christ living on the inside of them. It's needful. If you're ever going to come out, if you're ever going to come out of the situation that you're in, you have got to, and this is where the enemy will work hard. The enemy has really worked hard to paint the church up as a bunch of judgmental people that that are, you know, holier than thou. And and they walk around with their nose in the air, and if it came a rainstorm, they would drown. And the enemy's done that because the enemy wants to keep you away from the church. Because the enemy knows that once you begin to take community into your sorrow, we're not going to talk about the next drink. We're not going to talk about the next shot. We're not going to talk about the next drug or the next doctor or whatever. We're going to start talking to you about a man named Jesus. Oh, you you ought to have seen my life before he got you. And and and and then what? Oh, hallelujah. I I believe I feel him walking the aisles this morning. I I I believe I feel him in the house right now. And when I begin to say, "You you you don't know what I was into. You don't know what I did. Are you kidding me? Did you do that? Were you like Well, let me show you this picture, man. You look you did that. You were like that. you and all of a sudden that person begins to think if he did it for him, he can do it for me. You you see you want to you want to take community in your sorrow. Um you you you go to the uh you go to the you go to the beach and you go at night to go crab hunting and you take a flashlight with you in a bucket and you go hunting crabs. There's one thing that you don't have to do. You don't have to have a lid to the bucket for the crabs. And here's why. Here's why. When you put the crab down in there and one crab starts crawling out, another crab on the bottom will reach up and pull him back down. So, you don't want to I guess you don't want to run with crabby people. You you you you don't want to run. You you you don't want to run with people that when you're trying to get out, you're trying to get out of your sorrow, you're trying to climb out. They're just said, "No, no, no, no, no, no. You come back down here. I I I can't run with people like that. I don't need people pulling me down. I need some people that are pulling me up. I I I need some folks that are pulling me. The ingredients for the resurrection. Let me give you one one other scripture before we move on. One other scripture is in Deuteronomy 32 and30 where it says about a about a child of God. How shall one chase a thousand and two put 10,000 to flight? Now, now he's talking about I know there's synergy and I know that that that as two come together their their workload is multiplied and all that, but let's just break it down to the number. You may be only able to defend a thousand, whatever, but choose somebody that can defend 9,000. Choose somebody that can defend 9,000. If you can ward off a thousand, don't choose somebody that can only ward off 500 because they're looking for you. You need to always choose somebody that's batting 9,000. You need to choose somebody in your life. You need to put yourself around a community. Can you say amen? Say yes. What is that community? That community according to 1 Corinthians 12:27, that community is the body of Christ. That's what that community is. That community is the body of Christ. And I want you to know our head is perfect and our body is imperfect. The head of the church is Jesus Christ and he's absolutely perfect. And in him there's no fault at all. But the body does have blemishes and faults, but it's still the body. It's still the body of Jesus Christ today. Oh, can I tell you, those of you carrying sorrow this morning, you're no more than three or four inches away from somebody that could help pray for you today and your sorrow would be turned into joy. Well, that's the first ingredient. Let's go to the second ingredient. See if anybody relates to this word. Anybody relate to the word rejection? rejection. He certainly was. Once again, Isaiah 53:3, he is despised and rejected of men, man of sorrow. You see, when you've been rejected, when you've been rejected, you may have been the one doing the rejecting or you may be the one that was rejected. It doesn't matter. Life has a way of rejecting us. And I don't care who you are today. Rejection doesn't feel good. When you are rejected by someone, when there is rejection in your life, but you see, he identifies with our rejection. He identifies with our rejection because the Bible says he is despised and rejected of men. But only God can take sorrow and take rejection and mix it together and cause there to be a resurrection. Only God can take sorrow, identify, and rejection and mix it together and cause for there to be a resurrection. I think of Joseph in the Old Testament. Think of Joseph, that type of Jesus Christ who was rejected by his brothers. He was rejected by his brothers. He was sold by his brothers. He was sold. He was mistreated. He was cast in a pit. He was sold to be a slave in Egypt. He got to Egypt, had a few years of prosperity in Piper's house. And then he is lied upon by Piper's wife. She lies upon him. She slanders him. She lies and says, "He tried to rape me. Joseph finds himself in a prison serving time for something he didn't do. The Bible informs us that they put the iron stock so tight upon his feet that it injured his ankles. And there's even some traditions that say that J that Joseph walked with a shuffle because they had broke his ankles in the shackles there in prison. But even in the prison, God was with him. Even in the prison, God was there. He was forgotten in the prison. He was supposed to a man that he helped to get out of prison. Was supposed to tell the king, the Pharaoh, I've been put here. I I don't deserve to be put here. I've been rejected. I've been lied upon. But he was forgotten for two years. But can I tell you that when you keep your faith in God and you keep your hope in God that I don't care how much time may elapse, God will answer your prayer. God will turn it around. I I I I just feel a little bit of I feel I just feel a little bit of uplifting preaching right here. I am telling you that if you would sew your sorrow and rejection into God on Easter 2025, by this time next year, Lord willing, you're going to come and say, "He turned it all around. He turned it all around. I've been rejected. I've been forgotten. I've been slandered. I've been all these things." But at the end of day, God turned it all around. The story of Joseph goes on and the king remembered him. He was brought swiftly from the dungeon and made the second most powerful ruler in all of Egypt was Joseph. You imagine that going from a rejected brother to a man living a man cast in a pit to a man slandered and lied upon, falsely accused, proven guilty in a court of law, cast into a prison, now wears a royal ring on his finger, and is the second in command of the most mightiest nation of the then known world. Joseph soon married after he got out of prison. Joseph had his first born, which was a baby boy. And when Joseph looked in the eyes of that baby boy, he said, "I call your name Manasseh. I call your name Manasseh." He looked at that little baby and he said, "I call your name Manasseh." Why are you going to call him Manasseh? For God hath made me forget all the toil of my father's house. Did Jesus not say, "So your joy into me, and when I sew your sorrow into me, and when I give you joy, you're not going to remember the anguish you went through to get your joy." He looked at him and he said, "This is Manasseh because I'm forgetting about being rejected. I'm forgetting about being lied upon. I'm forgetting about being thrown in a pit because God hath made me forget. Hey, it's time some of you stop living with a victim mentality. It's time some of you get your head up and stop living with a victim mentality and begin to live with a victim me forget. Oh, give him praise today. Oh, I love you, Lord. I love you, God. Sometime later, Joseph's wife would become pregnant again. Again, a baby boy was given was birthed, was his second son. He holds his second son in his hands and he says, "I call you Ephraim. God hath made me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction. Can I tell you, you'll never be fruitful until you learn to forgive or you learn you're forgiven. He said, "God hath caused me to forget." And when I forget, I forgive all the to I forgive my brothers that rejected me. I forgive my family that rejected me. I I forgive people that rejected me. I forget. I I forgive them in Jesus name. I forgive them because God have made me God have made me forget all the time. I'm not going through life waking up every morning remembering what somebody did did me wrong 20 years ago. I'm not going to wake up every day of my life. I'm not going to go through my life replaying the video in my mind of being rejected and being hurt or rejecting. I'm going to allow God to take my joy, take my sorrow, and cause there to be joy. What about that third day? We got the ingredients of sorrow and we got the ingredients of rejection. He's dead. He's not coming back to life. We silenced this the Messiah. We silenced him. Put him in a tomb. But that tomb acted like an oven that you put ingredients in because three days later, something's going to rise up out of that tomb. And is in in a life in a body that'll never that'll never die. A life in a body that was a sacrifice for sins once and for all, but a glorified risen Christ. And we don't really preach much about this. We kind of got him three days in the tomb. He raises from the dead and goes right into heaven. But that didn't happen that way. He stayed around for 40 days. The Bible says, speaking of things pertaining to the kingdom of God. He said, "I'd love just I would love for the Lord, if I can think of it when I get to get to heaven, if I can just ask the Lord, could you play me some tapes of what the religious leaders that had been crucified, what they said?" I can hear them now. There's another report. Uh Rabbi Steinberg, there's another report. There's a Well, what is this report? He's down at the market right now. You want to go see? No, I don't want to go see. I I That is somebody that looks like that's some He was 40 days. But I got news for you. The Bible says more than that. The Bible says when he rose from the dead, he gave a little pallet. He gave a little teaser, a little sample of an appetizer. He let some Old Testament saints come out of the grave with him. And the Bible says that many of the Old Testament saints which slept walked into the city of Jeroo. Can you explain? We buried that uncle 25 years ago and Uncle Joe just showed up at family picnic. We don't we got all the food we can eat now. Uncle everybody left. Can I tell you what a wonderful resurrection? And if he did it then I heard you, brother Ericson. He is the same yesterday and today and forever more. There's only 2,000 years that separates us from that joy. But we can have it this morning. I have our musicians come. Let's just take a moment of prayer and praise right now. God, I love you. Lord, I thank you today, God. Lord, I've had my fair share of sorrow. And God, I've had my fair share of struggle. God, I've had things in my life, God, that's driven me to tears. And God, I've had things, Lord, that's driven me to my knees. And I've had things, God, that's caused me, Lord, to lose my appetite. And God, I've had things, Lord, that's caused me to toss and turn in the bed. And God, I've had all these things. But God, I thank you this morning that I'm here to celebrate your resurrection. here to celebrate today. Just when you just when you think just when you think you've heard it all, you hear the story of an elderly man, an elderly man that for years attended a church just like this one. for the male just like this one. For years, people would look at him as a happy man. But as sickness be to come upon his life and he began to realize I I'm I'm living in the sunset of my life. church for years. He asked his pastor for an appointment. When he sat down in the pastor's office, he said, "Pastor, I don't know if I can ever be delivered from this. I don't know that I could ever get help. I've tried. It's plagued me. And I've tried. I've tried and I've tried." But he said, "When I was 11 years old, I was 11 years old, my mother wanted to go into town for a few hours, and she left me to take care of my three-year-old brother. She left me to watch out over him." She said, "Pastor, when mother left," said the boys in the neighborhood wanted to go down and in an open field and play some football. And I thought, "Well, why don't I just go down and I'll set my little brother over on the sideline. I'll keep an eye on him." And he said, "For a little bit, I could play ball and I would see him sitting over." He said, "Pastor, I lost track of my little brother." And I began to look for my little brother and said, "In looking for my little brother, I had heard the train come by. Was nothing unusual for me to hear the whistle and the rumble of train." But he said, "On this day, I heard the screeching wheels of that train as it was coming to a stop." And he said, "My fears were made known when I ran to the track and I found my baby brother mangled up under the train." I've lived with this for years, pastor. My mother and I through life, my mother's gone now, but we both lived in a silent time of our life. I would occasionally just ask my mom over and over again, "Please forgive me, Mom. Let's just don't talk about it, son. Please forgive me, Mom." Now, I'm going to tell you, when you think that you've heard everything, think about a young 11year-old boy as he grows into an elderly, gayheaded, stooped shouldered man who has one sorrow in his heart. He has one regret in his heart. But can I tell you today, there is not a situation that God cannot step in and say, "Let me have it. Let me have it today." Would you stand with me right now? Let me let me have that today. Would you bow your heads all over this church? I'm going to ask the good saints of God if you'll begin to pray right now because there needs to be a transaction of sorrows given right now. There needs to be a there needs to be a transaction of sorrows given right now. There needs to be somebody that's here today that you thought you were just invited to another Easter celebration, but God is here and he's he's walking the aisles right now and he's saying to you, "Let me have your sorrow. I wish you would cast it upon me right now. If you'd give it to me right now, oh, how I would take it and I would take you and I'll I'll make something out of it. Come on, saints of God. Would you begin to pray right now? There needs to be a transaction right now. There there needs to be a transaction right now. Pray. I'd like to hear the sound of people pray today. Pray right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. Right now. I uh I didn't I didn't put this down on the notes. It just came to me. And I've stopped preaching very early today. But I wonder, we have a custom here in our church. Our we have a group of men that gather up around the altars and they pray for people. I wonder today if that group of men, and I know I'm catching everybody off guard right now, but if that group of men would come and across the altar with me right now because I'm glad we got a helicopter going to drop a million eggs out here. I'm I'm glad we got cameras going and I'm glad for all that, but I have failed miserably today. If you're here with some sorrow that you'd just like to give it over to God right now, you'd just like to surround yourself with community right now. You You would like to surround yourself with community right now. Come on, Brother John Stone. Come on. Come on. Right now. Come on. I'd like to surround myself with community. Brother Mayo, would you would you step up here right now? Tyler, would you come right now? Would you would you come right now? Would you come? Anybody got any sorrow that you'd just say, you know, I'd like to come and just give this to them right now. I' I'd like to come and have them pray over me right now. I'd like to come and have them pray over me right now. Church, one last time, could we close our eyes and could we begin to pray right now? In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. God, begin to touch those souls right now. Young lady, you don't have to sleep another night with that sorrow.
