if you have your Bibles tonight let's go quickly to the book of Ephesians the book of Ephesians chapter number six and verse number 10. Ephesians chapter number six and verse number 10. thank you each one of you for being in the house of the Lord for being in the house of the Lord on this less than favorable weather conditions that were all ways surrounded with someone has said if you don't like the weather in East Tennessee hang around it'll change all right and so I thank you that on a night like this you would find yourself in the house of God and I sincerely I sincerely mean that this evening Ephesians chapter 6 and verse number 10. finally my brethren be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against The Wiles that were there being schemes plotted plans of the devil for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places one more verse of scripture Psalms chapter 9 Psalms chapter 9 and verse number 17. Psalms chapter 9 verse 17. the wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God and all the nations that forget God for a few moments tonight I want to minister on spiritual amnesia spiritual Amnesia help me pray father in the name of Jesus tonight help me Lord to teach this Bible Lesson help me God to feed your people Lord that stand before me with Bibles open and Minds ready to receive Lord help me tonight God to prepare a people that are ready for your coming Lord I'll give you the praise and the honor and the glory in Jesus wonderful name I do pray amen and amen you may be seated spiritual spiritual amnesia we know that Amnesia according to the dictionary Amnesia is the loss of memory due to unusually due to usually to brain to a brain injury Amnesia can be caused by brain injury it can be caused by shock it can be caused by fatigue depression or Illness but simply put Amnesia is simply a gap in one's memory just simply a gap in one's memory the Apostle Paul wrote to you and I through the book of Ephesians and the Apostle Paul wants to remind us because we do need to be reminded that we have an enemy we have an enemy he is a well-structured enemy the enemy the enemy that we have the devil is no is no uh slouch when it comes he's well he's well organized as a matter of fact one time they accused Jesus of casting out Devils by the prince of belzebub he said you're casting out Devils by devils and Jesus quickly told them that A house divided against itself would not stand he gave witness to how organized how organized that the adversary is and Paul speaks of this when he tells us to be strong in the Lord now the devil may be organized but he's not more powerful than God in his church and maybe a lot of things that he has plotted and planned and schemed but as long as we stay where we need to be in our God we will be an overcomer he said to be strong in the Lord in the power of His might put on the whole armor that's a that he Paul is telling you and I tonight get ready for a fight we are going to have a fight you you can't ignore it if you're going to make Heaven your home get ready for a fight that's all I can say just get ready for a fight but put on the whole armor of God and that we may be able to stand against the schemes The Wiles of the devil and then he wants us to know one thing we don't wrestle against flesh and blood we're not wrestling against flesh and blood I believe the devil gets his greater greatest joy out of causing us to think it's Flesh and Blood that's our problem he's behind everything he's behind he is behind it all for we don't wrestle against flesh and blood but here he goes in verse 12 principalities Powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places so he's telling you that the adversary is well put together he's well later layered wherever the adversary can get in and have a voice he's going to do that he's going to get in and he's going to have a he's going to have a voice we must understand tonight that part of our Victory part of our Victory is simply in don't forget God don't forget God Psalms 9 and 17 gives a very Bleak picture of those that forget God he says there will be turned they will be turned into hell there's a very Bleak picture for those that forget God we're wonderfully blessed tonight church we are so wonderfully blessed tonight to be the New Testament Church because we have the Old Testament Israel as an example to look at we have we we have the Old Testament Israel to look at them they are there we have them from Genesis to Malachi for a history book what's the old saying if we don't learn from history we are bound to repeat it so history is given to you and I tonight and we're we're most blessed to have this history to have this history of Israel because we can see if you would join me in Judges chapter 3 Judges chapter 3 and verse number 7 it simply says and the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and forget or forgot the Lord their God and serve Balaam and the Groves so here we go with spiritual Amnesia it didn't say that Israel denied God it didn't say that Israel became atheists and denied God it simply says that they they forgot they forget they forgot God that's going down to Psalms 106. in verse 13. Psalms 106 13. look at this people they soon forget his works they waited not for his counsel Hosea 2 13. Hosea 2 13. and I will visit upon her the days of Balaam wherein she burned incense to them she debt herself now God is talking about his people he's talking about his people now his people forgetting who they are and now watch what watch how they begin to behave she burned incense to them is false god and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels and she went after her lovers and are you following me and forget me saith the Lord so here we have this beautiful example of what we're not to do let's not forget God Church let's not forget God regardless of how tough it gets regardless of how dark it gets regardless of how confused we may get anybody in this room ever thought God ought to come through a certain way and he didn't anybody in this room ever been disappointed sure but in the midst of that disappointment please don't develop spiritual Amnesia please don't forget don't forget God now let me give you just a little history lesson this evening when the children of Israel were delivered from Egyptian bondage and they came into the land of Canaan they came into the land of Canaan Canaan was inhabited Canaan was filled with cities and people God gave Israel Canaan land it was theirs for a possession but when they came into Canaan land that you got to you've got to know that they were surrounded by the Gods of Canaan they were surrounded by the false gods of Canaan among which was Baal his name means Lord and of course that's a a a that's not a capital l Bale is not the Lord Baal was just a voice that Satan used to create a religion that people look to this Veil this bale as as their lord and this nation or these countries that were in Canaan the Israelites soon found themselves surrounded it wasn't surrounded by people that were not embracing God they were surrounded by people that were embracing false gods they had false ways of worship lewd ways of worship immoral ways of worship and one of the things God kept telling Israel over and over and over again don't take up the way that the Canaanites worship don't don't don't take up their gods as a matter of fact the very first commandment among the ten is this Thou shalt have no other gods before me don't get in that land I don't care how popular Bell is I don't care how it appeals to your senses do not take on the way of worshiping the false god of Baal well I did a little study on Baal I found out that the Supreme male deity of the Phoenicians and the Canaanite Nations was Baal as asteroth there's another God that's mentioned in the Bible God would say don't worship Baal and asteroth asteroth was their Supreme female deity Baal was a supreme male and asteroth was the Supreme female some supposed bail to correspond to the Sun and asteroth to the Moon others that Baal was Jupiter and asteroth was Venus we understand that they were highly populated of Baal and asteroth as a matter of fact we read in the book of numbers that Moses encountered Moses encountered Baal there as he's bringing the children of Israel through and I'm going to read about that in a moment they encountered that but I want to show you something that I found in study when they got into the land of Canaan Baal and asteroth these false gods were were heavily as heavily heavily populated there was a great number of Baal worshipers they tied anything good to Baal rain it was bail snow it was bail good crops it was bail they attributed everything good to Baal and when things were bad they also went to Baal for an answer so we find that the the the the landscape that Moses took the Israelites into was heavily populated with this false way of worshiping many years later in the times of the Kings of Israel it became the religion of the Court and and people of the ten tribes it appears Baal worship appears in the times of the Kings Saul David Solomon jeroboam rehoboam this this this false way of worship had wheedled its way into the fabric of politics they had somehow allowed this false religion to have a say in their politics later on we find many temples were erected to Baal in Judah in Judah the people of God had possession of the land but we find them erecting temples to Baal we find them worshiping we find them being attracted and even worshiping Baal and of course the study books that I I read this information from it says that Baal worship was attractive to the flesh it it appealed there were lewd the princesses or the priests of Baal Temple the women and men were lewd in their acts of worship and it appealed it appealed to the sensual fleshly nature of man I also found that they all went by several names bell went by several names his first name was Baal bereth Bell be Wrath and this means I am a Lord that makes a covenant with you I make a covenant with you I give you my word believe my word and I make a covenant with you we next find that it's bail is above we get the term Bells above Bells above which means the Lord of The Fly they believe that flies were some kind of divine deity that would hover around and fly around we find them I could read you the scripture tonight in in one of the Kings one of the Kings of Israel fell sick on his bed and his sickness was very Grievous and he sent a messenger to go to ekron to inquire at Bells above and he ran into a prophet of God and the prophet of God came to the king's bed chamber and he said is was it that there was no God in Israel that you went to sin to the Lord of the Flies and because you sent to the god of the lord The Bell the god of the Flies you shall not recover you shall die in the bed you're in and he did they'll be with the god of the Lord of Covenant Bells above the Lord of The Fly and Belle PR the lord of the opening or the Lord of the joining us the god of the invitation I don't know about you but Baal Satan behind this Bale because that's that's that's all it is it's Satan behind it tries to mimic God don't you know God is a god of his word God is a god of Covenant if God makes you a promise you can you can just worship because that promise is going to come true he said he would come to this earth and save us from our sins did he not he said it's in the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost did he not and he said he's coming back again I don't doubt that one bit because he is always kept his word he is the lord of the Covenant well we don't worship males above the god of the fly but we sure do interact with that Heavenly dove amen we sure do interact with the spirit of the Living God and can I tell you Belle pior Belle of the invitation you can have no greater invitation than the Lord Jesus Christ spreading out his nail scarred hands saying come unto me all ye that labor but we see how Bell Satan's behind it baal's not a lord Bell is just some kind of figment of of of a philosophy that men have adapted go with me right now to Numbers chapter 25 Numbers chapter 25 and verse number uh well let's let's begin at verse number one because this is where the people really got in trouble it says it chapter 25 of numbers and Israel Abode in shidom and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of the land guess what happened Baal peor kept opening up open its arms up to the people of God come on over here come on over here can I tell you Bill pior is not trying to get you to deny your God he's just trying to get you to come worship along with his gods don't have to deny just come come over here come over here and worship with us this was Baal peor the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab and they called The People Under The sacrifices of their gods and the people did eat and bowed down to their gods and Israel joined himself unto baalpy or and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel look at verse 4 and the Lord said unto Moses take all the heads of the people and hang them up before the Lord against the son that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel let me stop there who joined themselves to Bell peor was the Young Generation it was the Young Generation that that went after Bell peor but when God got ready to pass judgment and say I'm going to pass judgment he didn't say hang the heads of the younger generation up because quite honestly the younger generation is just doing what the older generation allows them to do the older generation let down their guard the older generation somehow said well they seem harmless they seem so harmless let's let our children go play with their children let's let our children go watch a little bit of their entertainment let's let our children go hear a bit a little bit about their their confusion and their way it's just as harmless as can be and before you know it the younger generation was bowing down and joining themselves to Bell peor and God's anger boiled and he said hang the heads of the leaders up it's the leaders that have caused this can I tell you tonight as the pastor of this church I don't want God to ever hang my head up as the pastor of this church now it's left up to you whether you obey it or not but as the pastor of this church I want to keep the trumpet Mighty close by my side and when I see Belle peor roaming around the lobbyist when I see lpo are trying to roam around your life I want to blow the trumpet and say get away from them get out of that don't listen to that entertainment don't listen to that music don't go that way I want to see you don't let it be on my record that you joined yourself to Bell peor and you never heard from the older generation you see Bill Carpenter you're teaching history tonight you're teaching history okay let's go all the way over to the Book of Revelation The Book of Revelation things which are to come to pass we know let's go to the Book of Revelation chapter 2 and let's start reading let's read chapter 2 and verse number chapter 2 and verse number 12. and to the angel of the church everybody say the church the church in pergamus right these things saith he that hath the sharp to edge sword a sharp sword with two edges I Know Thy works and where thou dwellest in where Satan city is and that they'll hold us fast my name and has not denied my faith even in the days we're in Antipas was my faithful martyr who was also slain among you were Satan dwelleth but I have a few things against you now who's talking now that's not history talking this is God talking I have a few things against thee because thou Hast there them that hold to the doctrine of Balaam who taught balic to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication Baal is not a history lesson tonight Baal is still very much alive in 2023 bailed behind him bail is just a puppet the hand up in the puppet is none other than our Wiles of the adversary it's The Wiles of the adversary to try to entice us away from our way of worship we don't need another way of worship this worship has worked good for two thousand years and this worship will work until Jesus blows the trumpet and takes us home we don't need a new doctrine hear o Israel the Lord our God is one Lord one faith and one Baptist we don't need a new way to explain God he's one we don't need a new way of worship we don't need bail pior we don't need bail PR Among Us but how does Baal how does bail pior how does he even take over how does bail peor come into a church how does bail peor come into a life and take over I think I've discovered something in the second book of Kings chapter 17. verse 14 that I'd like to I'd like to give for your consideration not hell Baal know about you but I don't want Bill Peoria to come in and take over in my life I don't want Bill peor to have his way in this church all right so don't you know if we would get smart to bail peor we could see and identify how many would like to identify the signs of Baal peor to know hey I think Bill Carpenter talked to us about about Bill peor well look at second Kings chapter 17. and verse number 14. of course the whole chapter is talking about rebuking the people of God because of Bill peor says in verse 14 talking about Israel notwithstanding they would not hear you see when Bel peor took over God loved him enough God loved him enough brother Kip to send them prophets prophets preachers God loved Israel enough to send men with trumpets in their hands and and people that were trying to wave their hands and say stop the way you're going stop the way you're living stop stop what you're doing he sent them notwithstanding they would not hear but hardened their necks like to the neck of their fathers that did not believe in the Lord their God that's where we get the term stiff-necked stiff-necked when somebody in the Bible was referred to as stiff neck that means they won't turn they won't turn they're they're facing one way and they're they're stiff-necked verse 15 they wouldn't listen to the prophets they would not listen to the prophets in that they would not listen to the prophets verse 15 and they rejected his statues and his Covenant that he made with their fathers and his testimonies which he testified against them and they followed vanity and became Vain and went after the Heathen that were around about them concerning who the Lord had charged them that they should not do like them and they left all the Commandments of the Lord their God and made them molten images even to calves and made a Grove and worshiped all the hosts of heaven and served Balaam and they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire and use divination and enchantments and sow themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke him to anger let me tell you Baal peor cannot take over in your life if you will listen to the preached word of God don't go home scared tonight don't go home frightened tonight all you got to do to remedy Bell peor get you a Bible get you a pastor listen let some of your favorite pastime be listening to preaching let some of your favorite pastime I'm me can I get some preaching can I can I hear some messages let let my pastime be because I'm going to tell you something in order for bail P Orr to take over you've got to be on your cell phone when you ought to be listening to your pastor in order for male PR to take over you've got to view preaching is just a bunch of loud words that somebody's going to say for a few minutes and you just kind of check out and you check back in if you're doing that tonight you are a prime candidate for bail pior to come take up he's got to he's got to get you not to listen to the preacher he's got to get you not listening to the pastor he can't even get his foot in the door until he can get you not listening and then when he gets you not listening then all of a sudden you get spiritual amnesia you forget you forget you forget the things that God has led you forget the things that God has taught in your life uh then you you leave this you look at verse 15 you reject the statues and the Covenant you made you begin look at this church you begin you begin to do away with long-held Godly traditions you begin to let go of well-established Traditions I'm going to tell you and I preached this last year at our general conference tradition is not a it's not a bad word a lot of people well that's just tradition if the tradition is tied to something that takes you away from the word of God that's wrong but if tradition is tied to the word of God that's a good tradition the Bible doesn't tell us how many times we're to go to church the Bible just simply says don't forsake the assemblings of yourselves together the Bible doesn't say thou shalt go Sunday morning and Sunday night and Wednesday night it it doesn't say that but a long-held tradition among God's people is that we have a midweek Bible study and that we have Sunday morning and Sunday night that we worship God those are long-held Traditions that we that we have hold of but it Baal poor gets it baalpio or gets his way if Baal peor has his way he will remove all of the Traditions that have held us through the years if Baal peor has his way he'll erase our distinction of a people he'll erase all of that among us if Bill Peoria gets his way and the only way he can get his way is for you not to have a desire to listen to the preaching and the teaching of God's word why don't you give the Lord a hand to praise right now they left the Commandments they left the Commandments well how in the world could you ever accept many gods I tell you how you can accept many gods when's the last time you heard Thou shalt have no other gods before me when when is when is the last time when is the last time that you that you heard when's the last time that you heard that it was a generation that said I don't know when's the last time I heard that I I don't we've been joined to Bill peor I don't know been 15 20 25 years I I don't know I don't know the last time I don't know the last time that we heard that and then you get a generation that doesn't know that they're to have no no other no other gods no other gods before him they left the Commandment and then look what happened when they left the Commandment they did pick up a form of worship verse 16 Second Kings 17 and verse 16. they did pick up they did pick up they did pick up another religion verse 16 they left all the Commandment of the Lord their God and made themselves mold and images they're still worshiping they're they're still they're they're still worshiping they're just worshiping wrong they're still worshiping they're just worshiping wrong the Bible says they that worship me must worship me in spirit and in truth they're still worshiping it's just what are they worshiping there's people today they're worshiping they're worshiping you know Sunday used to be the hall there used to be the holy day in America but now it's a holy day it's just it's just a holiday it's not Sunday used to be a a holy day and now Sunday is is a holiday it's just a holiday matter of fact many many worshipers of sports many worshipers of sports and recreation and rest will tell you when you challenge their God of sports and recreation and rest this is the only day that we have to rest when you tell them why don't you come to the house of God that's because they have changed their worship they have changed look at that verse look at that verse with me again look at that verse verse 16. they left all the Commandment of the Lord their God made themselves mold in images two calves made a Grove worshiped all the hosts of heaven and served Baal oh there's a lot of worshipers there's a lot of worshipers these people that worship Sports don't don't don't don't talk to me about a church that preaches a dress code go to some of these football games come on now don't don't talk to me about but you you people you you people in your clothing don't don't don't don't don't go down that road with me look at some of these people at their ball games gonna wear their colors we're gonna wear that sport color or I've I even seen on advertisement it was some rather large men that were Fanatics about sports that painted the letters of the team on their big belly and they stood side by side don't don't don't talk to me about y'all got some weird ways it's just who we're worshiping I'm not worshiping Recreation I'm not worshiping Sports I'm not worshiping fashion I'm not worshiping secular music I listen Mel PR is gonna hold in somebody's life I'm worshiping the almighty God and this is how he likes me to do and this is how he likes me to do and he likes me to tell him I love you Lord I praise you I magnify you come on now let's Worship the Lord tonight in the way don't tell me don't don't try to suck don't listen don't try to sell me that old line of I'm just not emotional preacher and you can jump flat-footed off your couch and throw popcorn coat and everything up in the air when your team score or something don't don't don't even go there with me tonight I ain't no mood to mess with that right now don't don't even don't even go there don't even don't even go there you see we're all all worshiping we just have to make sure we're worshiping God and the way you can know your worship and God do you have a hunger for preaching I think a lot of I listen this church I may be preaching to another church tonight because this many people come out to Bible study tonight you all got a hunger for the word of God let's never lose it let's never lose that hunger for the word of God let's never lose that hunger because you know who's going to pay for it in the end our children going to pay for it look at verse 17. and they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire and use divination and enchantments and sow themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord can I tell you go ahead and let down those convictions go ahead and untie yourself to what your mom and dad and their grandparents and their grandparents taught us about how to live for God go ahead and untie yourself from all them and I promise you one day who's going to pay the price for it's going to be our children our children are going to be susceptible to Baal peor I see sister Davis here tonight she bought me a book some time ago and I've just kind of thumbed around through this book but this week I I got this book out it's from The New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Khan and it's entitled The Return of the Gods the return of the Gods and um he says it's hard to believe about what I'm going to read to you in 2023 it's hard to believe that there was a day that this nation existed let's listen to this in the mid 20th century the majority of Western nations were still viewed as Christian and America was decidedly and proudly so America was proud to call itself a Christian Nation America stood clear in clear opposition brother Tharp of marxist ideology and the atheism of Soviet Union and communist China America was a nation a nation in which liberal newspapers would publish summations of sermons preached throughout the city the previous Sunday wow it's leading magazines could advocate for Christian morality and Christian Revival its entertainment was expected to uphold biblical and Christian values and never attack them and it was not a strange not a strange thing for its television stations it just blows my mind it was not a strange thing for television statements stations to sign off at night with a sermonette and prayer I'm talking about our nation America it was a nation in which the majority of those on the political left and right saw themselves as sincere followers of Jesus in which politicians would freely cite God and Christian values in their public discourse America in the mid 20th century was a nation in which children are you ready for this our children were not only allowed to pray in public schools but actually LED In Prayer by their teachers and where teachers read the word of God in their classrooms and it was an American it was in America that declared itself one nation under God can I tell you into this nation Satan said I must somehow Slither he's a snake and snakes sliver I have to somehow slither into this America though the seeds of America's turning from God can be found earlier in days it would become most noticeable our departure from God hear this now our departure from God became most notable and would achieve critical mass in the 1960s it was at the beginning of that decade that America removed prayer from its Public Schools who do pro what who does prayer affect in the public schools our children why not make a law against prayer among older people because Satan knew he would never get the older more established Americans that truly believed in one God but if I can get in the minds of the children what better way to get in the minds of the children than to take away prayer it was at the beginning of that decade that America removed prayer from its Public Schools the Act was soon followed by the band Banning of God's word from the instruction of the nation's children so they first said you can't pray and then later on and it's all a tactic it's all satan is well put together he's The Prince and the principality spiritual wickedness in high places he slowly methodically said let me first disconnect him from a God they're praying to you want to you want a backslide stop praying you want to grow cold on God we only know God through prayer through getting in the spirit and praying and talking to God cut that line off and all of a sudden we drift away from a god that we don't know it would be some time later they would ban the reading of God's word by the school teachers the Bible had always been a part of America's public school system from its Beginnings at Massachusetts Bay thus the change was a momental a Monumental one and with regard to the spirit of Baal it was just the right move it was just think about that a school do you know where schools were established schools were established for the purpose of teaching our children how to read the Bible that's why our forefathers he said we've got to have school houses and school teachers our children have got to be able to read why not to get better jobs not to make fifty dollars an hour not to have a degree beside their name sister Selena they said our children need to be able to read the Bible and know the god of the Bible can you believe that Bell peor slithered his way into America and so deceived the minds of people until they would make a law that would say you can no large school public school teacher you can no longer lead your children you can no longer lead your classroom in prayer it's becoming offensive to those that are coming from other places that don't believe in our God you know what happened to America the Melting Pot is what we've been called The Melting Pot what happened to America our fire went out and we're not a Melting Pot anymore we're a gathering for every diverse culture that is around and politicians are scrambling for votes and and we can't have prayer because that might offend the atheists and we can't do this because it may appear I don't know about you but reading this makes me so proud and glad that we've got Apostolic Christian Academy we've got Apostolic of the mornings brother Sullivan has been bringing our student body in at eight o'clock and over here they just about fill these two sections of children lifting up their hands and praying and reading their Bible I don't know about you the public school may not let us pray but we're praying at ACA the public school may not let a teacher lead prayer but we're lit Bell PR's not getting in this house bill peor is not getting in this place the Lord I've lost my I've lost my place Bales Bales America agenda was not limited to its school system it would permeate every area of American culture it's major newspapers would no longer publish summations of of the past Sunday sermons its leading magazines would no longer endorse Christian values It's Entertainment would no longer uphold biblical morality it's politicians would speak less openly of Christian values and it's television stations would no longer promote prayer or present the ways of God in a polite a positive light but would now war against us we're at War stand up in public and say you you believe in absolutes get ready for people not to come to your business come on I hope you're quiet because you're thinking I hope you're not quiet because you've checked out we are at or we are at War and we are slowly going to see laws made about hate crimes and what that'll simply morph into is if you believe in absolutes and condemn through the word of God that's how you ought to condemn it through the word of God immoral Lifestyles you will be guilty of inciting hate well I hope Jesus comes back soon praying to God or mentioning the name of Jesus in the Public Square would be increasingly viewed with hostility I have for several times
