magnify the lord i i concur with brother hammond it's so good we do have a great number of older saints uh older saints that are just north of 50 and we do have a great number of them and i'm glad to see i'm glad like brother hammond said i'm glad many of them are getting the the vaccine and and uh sister carpenter's giving me sign language but i don't i don't know what it is tonight and uh pardon me they're here it's what i'm saying that's oh i'm not looking the right way she's pointing over this way anybody not 50 over this way right all right it's sure to be a conversation going home tonight the preacher said him and his wife had words that he didn't get to use his we're so glad to see them back in the house of the lord this evening and brother fry had back surgery this week and i'm glad to report that he is recuperating very very well and i text them and ask them if there's anything they needed sister fry told me she said i said i got roger home and said i kept asking roger roger do you need anything roger do you need anything roger do you need anything he said finally in a weak frail voice brother fry said yes i need you to be quiet second samuel four and four and jonathan saul's son had a son that was lame on his feet he was five years old when the tidings came of saul and jonathan added out of jezreel and his nurse took him up and fled and it came to pass as she made haste to flee that he fell and became lame and his name was mophibosheth now turn back with me to first samuel chapter 18 verse number one three and four first samuel chapter 18 and verse number one and it came to pass when he had made an end of speaking unto saul that the soul of jonathan was knit with the soul of david and jonathan loved him as his own soul verse 3 then jonathan and david made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul and jonathan everybody say and jonathan and jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to david and his garments even to his sword and to his bow and to his girdle jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him gave it to david jonathan gave his garments jonathan gave his sword jonathan gave his bow and girdle or belt for a few moments tonight and i'd like to see what the lord would do for but for a few moments tonight i want to minister on the subject the comfort of the covenant the comfort of the covenant put your bibles down lift your hands with me tonight father what a comfort it is tonight to know that you are god what a comfort that it is tonight god to know that in all seasons of my life you remain god what a comfort it is tonight that you know the end from the beginning what a comfort that it is tonight god that you hold the church in the palm of your hand what a comfort it is tonight to know that you're as close as the mention of your name god i thank you tonight for the comfort of the covenant i ask that you would anoint my lips god do help me to encourage someone tonight help me god to preach faith into someone's heart i'll give you the praise and the honor and the glory holy ghost help us tonight in jesus name we pray give the lord a hand to praise for what he's going to do go ahead and give him a hand to praise before you're seated for what he's going to do oh that kind of hand clapping tells me somebody believes god's going to do some great things tonight you may be seated i begin the verse of scripture telling you about jonathan's son mephibosheth at the death of mephibosheth's father and grandfather jonathan and saul both died on the same day mephibosheth just a five-year-old lad at that moment was the next in line for the throne five years old a nurse grabs him up no doubt to take him into hiding but something horrible happens on that day not only did that young man lose his grandfather and his father both into one day but that five-year-old boy lost the ability to walk we leave him there prior to that mephibosheth's father jonathan had observed a man one day going into battle he was the son of a shepherd he was the eighth son he was ruddy undeveloped but he was full of faith he had refused jonathan's father's armor and trusted on nothing but a slingshot and five smooth stones jonathan watched in amazement as this young man ran across the valley floor and he watched him and he heard him as the giant began to trash talk this young man the young men spoke up with words so familiar to us and said you come to me with a shield and a sword but i come to you in the name of the lord god of israel jonathan watched as that young man wound that slingshot up and the first stone left and it hit its mark he watched as goliath tumbled backwards and failed he watched as this young man ran and drew goliath's own sword and took goliath's own head with his own sword the young man walks into the camp with his fingers twined within the hair holding the head of goliath jonathan took a couple steps back and listened to the conversation that was going on between his father and david and after they had ended talking jonathan reaches out and pulls david aside because the bible simply says there was something on the inside of jonathan that got knit with david's soul the bible says in verse number 1 that the soul of jonathan was knit with the soul of david that knitting is the intertwining of their heart strings begin to intertwine it was jonathan on that day it was jonathan on that day that made the first step it was jonathan that mentioned the word as you read the scripture you see that jonathan takes charge here it's jonathan that mentions about making a covenant it's jonathan that says to david i would like to make a covenant with you now a covenant may not mean as much today and it may take me a little time to explain it but they had covenants in the bible days and they had covenants that were very weighty in how they made a covenant and how they kept a covenant we have contracts today and along with contracts we have good job security for lawyers they had covenants we have contracts it was then that jonathan the king's son the prince steps up to david says i want to make a covenant with you the bible says that jonathan stripped himself of his robe of his garments of his sword of his bow and his girdle and gave to david now in a normal covenant normally david would have given back his garments to saw to jonathan but you see david has nothing to give he has no extra garments to give he has no swords he has no shields he has no weaponry weaponry to give so jonathan and david make a covenant on that day and yes jonathan is doing all sister tinny jonathan is doing all of the giving and david is doing all of the receiving i've got to tell you a little bit more about a covenant abraham in genesis chapter 15 covenants are very needful in genesis chapter number 15 and i begin i believe i i want to begin reading it verse number eight i find great comfort here because god had made abraham a lot of promises god had made a lot of promises to to abraham and abraham comes to verse 8 and he says lord god whereby shall i know that i shall inherit in other words you've made a lot of promises to me god how am i going to know that these things are going to come to pass when he said that god spoke and said in verse 9 he said take me a heifer of three years old and a she-goat of three years old and a ram of three years old and a turtle dove and a young pigeon and he took unto him all these and divided them in the midst and lay each piece one against another but the birds divided he not now what a covenant looked like in the bible days is that you took living animals two men wanted to have a covenant you took living animals and it took a while but you divided those animals in half one bloody half would lay on this side another bloody half on the other side and that would create a trail a pathway a few feet of nothing but the intestines and the bloody gore of animals that used to be whole but now are divided and according to the book of jeremiah the two parties would walk between the animals and there they would begin to rehearse what they were going to do for one another and so god tells abraham you want to know how i'm going to keep the land let's go into a covenant together and he told him the animals to take and the bible says he divided them he laid the bloody halves of the animals opposite of each other and the birds there was one on one side and the other on the other and there there was that that bloody trail between them but it's interesting to note that god did not automatically instantly come down when the animals had been divided no evidently some time must have went by for the bible says in verse number 11 and when the fowls came down upon the carcasses abram drove them away i want you to know tonight that god wants to make a covenant with us and in order for god to make a covenant with us we have got to be prepared for the foul to come down any time you're going to have a covenant with god you might as well expect it you might as well look for it without fail the adversary is going to show up it would be in the book it would be in the book of romans chapter 7 verse number 21 see if this can hit a note romans 7 21 paul says for i find that when i would do good evil is present with me i'm trying to cut a covenant i'm trying to get a covenant with god and now that i've got the animals laid out here comes the fowl i was expecting jehovah god to come but here comes the fowl paul says when i would do good evil is present with me job sheds a little more light on it in job chapter 1 verse number 6. now there was a day when the sons of god came to present themselves before the lord that's called worship but that's a comma there and not a period and satan came also among them what i want to leave with us tonight is think it not strange when you get enough faith to step out to begin to believe god you better be ready to fight the foul because the fowl's gonna come just as sure as the sacrifice gets laid out because the last thing the fowl wants you to do is have a covenant with god because when you begin to have a covenant with god there's some permanency that begins to cement you in the way of god you're able to walk through some deep valleys you're able to endure some dark nights all because you know you have a comfort of a covenant with god can i get a witness tonight jesus sheds more light on this in matthew chapter 13 verse number 27 so the servants of the householder came and said unto him sir dis not thou sow good seed in the field didn't you sow this filled with good seed from whence then hath it tears didn't you put good seed in this field where'd these tares come from verse 29 and he said unto him an enemy has done this just get ready sow your good seed but be ready there's some tares that are going to come up james said in james 4 and 7 submit yourselves therefore to god turn my monitors down just a little bit please submit yourself therefore a little bit to yourselves therefore to god resist the devil and he will flee from you wait a minute shouldn't all i do is submit myself to god that's exactly right but on your way to god you've got to understand you've got to resist the devil because just as sure as abraham got ready to cut covenant and the foul came down when i would do good evil is present the sons of god came to worship and satan came also among them i sowed good seed in this field but the tares came up too mark chapter four and verse number three hark and behold there went out a sower to sow and it came to pass as he sowed some fell by the wayside and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up now i want you to understand something about if there's one parable you you've got to master as a matter of fact not bible school but jesus tells you this there is one parable that if you don't under he spoke many parables but there's one parable jesus said if you don't understand this parable you won't understand any of the rest of the parables and it's the parable of the seed and the sower and the soil but it's also a parable of the fowl because when he sowed the seed the bible said the fowl came and devoured it jesus would later on jesus would later on in mark 4 and 15 explain it he said these are they by the wayside where the word everybody say the word where the word is sown but when they have heard satan cometh immediately and take up the word that was sown in their hearts brothers and sisters tonight as your pastor do you think it not strange that a lot of times we are attacked at two certain seasons saturday and monday or wednesday i'm telling you if things are going to go haywire at the school it's always going to be on wednesday if things are going to go haywire in marriages with new converts and etc it'll always be on saturday or things are going to go haywire in your life it will always be on monday now i don't have a scientific stat to this other than i i'm just telling you that's how it goes and you know why because the adversary doesn't want you where the word is being sown and if he can't keep you from coming to church wednesday saturday if he can't keep you from coming to church he will see that you've got a blessing on sunday and the first thing he'll try to do on monday and sometimes that old slew foot adversary lucifer doesn't even wait for monday he goes to work just as soon as the lights turn out here at the church think it not strange you get ready for a covenant and the foul's going to come down but you got to be like abraham he drove the fowl away he began to drive him away get out of here get out of here get get get out of here i'm what are you doing i'm waiting on god to come down that's what we need to do tonight we need to begin to shoo the adversary away from my life i may not have my blessing i may not have my answer i may be fighting foul tonight but i'm gonna fight foul because sooner or later god's gonna come walking down through the midst of all the comfort oh the comfort of a covenant oh the comfort of a covenant let's go back to genesis chapter 15 verse number 11 and the fowls came down upon the carcasses and abraham abram drove them away verse 12 and when the sun was going down a deep sleep fell upon abram a deep sleep fell upon abram and lo a horror of great darkness fell upon him now you got to understand god put him to sleep here god put abraham to sleep here it it's got the imagery it's got the language there it didn't say he just went to sleep it said a deep sleep fell upon him now can i tell you when i read my bible i find that any time that god puts a man to sleep he wakes up with something good any time god puts a man to sleep he's either going to take something out of him or he's going to put something into him and whatever he takes out of him if it's a rib he's going to make a good thing and i got some bible to help back up some of your grins tonight the bible said he that findeth the wife find that they good thing and obtaineth favor from the lord he didn't say he did find that the woman find it the good thing too many men are looking for a woman you ought to be looking for a wife because every wife is a woman but every woman's not necessarily a wife god oh lord have mercy god put away god put over adam to sleep and when god put oh adam to sleep when he woke up god had taken something out of him and god had made a good thing called a wife god had made a woman god had made a wife and when god put abraham to sleep god wasn't going to take something out of abraham but god was going to put some promises in him you want to know how this is going to work out you want to know how you're going to live in this land you want to know how that things are going to work out for you let me put you to sleep and he put him to sleep and then he said in verse 13 and he said unto abram know of a certainty that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs and shall serve them and they shall afflict them 400 years let me tell you about the god we serve the god we serve already knows what you're going to go through think about this tonight you're going to go through things you don't even know you're going to go through but the god that you serve already knows you're going to go through them he looked at abraham and he saw the entire nation of israel and he saw him being put under the the the the bondage of egypt he saw him being put under the bondage of pharaoh he saw him staying there 400 years and he said i'll just go ahead and tell you that you're going to be a stranger in a land for 400 years i don't know about you but i take shouting comfort tonight to know that my god already knows what i'm going to go through but that's not the shouting part he already knows what i'm going to go through and he knows that i'm going to go through it he said yeah no i walk through the valley of the shadow of death it's too many people built to my house he didn't say yeah though i camp out in the shadow the valley of the shadow of death i want you to know if i'm going through a trial i'm not staying in this trial i'm walking through this trial because i have the comfort of a covenant tonight i have a god that's already sized me up he already knows brother tyler every trial you will go through he knows every sickness you're going to have he knows every loss you're going to go through and he already has it planned out listen to god he says abraham abram he says your seed is going to be a stranger in a land that's not theirs and shall serve them and they shall afflict them 400 years and also that nation whom they shall serve will i judge and afterward they shall come out with great substance now let me just put it in my vernacular and god said to abraham abram your people are going to work in egypt and they're not going to get paid anything for 400 years no checks are going to be written to them for 400 years no bonuses is going to be given to them no checks is going to be written they're going to be slaves in that land but when i get ready to bring them out they're going to have to go all the way back and they're going to have to catch up for all the time they should have paid you think it not strange 400 years later when israel began to come out of egypt the egyptians began to throw their silver and their gold into the streets and say take this you say coincidence it wasn't a coincidence the god of the covenant 400 years prior to that had said that it's going to happen don't know about you tonight i want to praise his name don't know about you tonight what a mighty god we serve don't know about you tonight but i don't know why anyone wouldn't want to serve this man this god called jesus this god that keeps the covenant our life is in your hands our life is in your hands no other certainty also that nation and the bible says verse 15 and thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace thou shalt be buried in a good old age but in the fourth generation there shall come hither again for the iniquity of the amorites amorites is not yet full and it came to pass when the sun went down and it was dark behold a smoking furnace and a burning lamp passed between the two pieces why did god manifest himself as a smoking furnace because in a furnace things get refined in a furnace things that are in you get burned out don't know about you but i speak for myself god has to keep me in the furnace because there's always things on the inside that need to come out and so he always keeps us in a furnace but he doesn't always he didn't only manifest himself as a furnace but he also manifested himself he said that there was a smoking furnace and a burning lamp so abram looks and in between the pieces he's going to walk through this p these pieces with this god and god's got a furnace there's things in you that i want to refine there's things in you that i want to take out would you all please set still why god wants to take some things out of you when god begins to turn the heat up on your life a little bit and some minerals and some things deep down inside of you begin to to to give shape and begin to loosen up and you begin to get uncomfortable furnaces are very uncomfortable to be around and to be in but would you please just stay put when god turns the furnace up and some of the things that are deep down inside of you need to come out to the surface and not only come out but they need to stay out would you please stay put it's easy to go find another church it's easy just to jump across town i just don't feel comfortable at fac anymore no what you're really saying is god put you in a furnace here and some things begin to get turned up in your life and you would rather go somewhere else where the air conditioning is very good but can i tell you would you just stay right here and let god bring some things out of your life let god protect you you know not only did god have a furnace can i get a witness tonight not only did god had a furnace but god had a lamp what's a lamp for his word is a light to my pathway and it's a lamp to my feet why don't we just let god lead us and guide us the way come on would you give him some praise tonight in this house turn the heat up on me god turn the heat up on me lord god i may have some pride in my heart i may have some jealousy in my heart i may have some lust in my heart god turn the furnace up on me god turn the furnace up on me god oh in the same day the lord made a covenant with abram saying unto thy seed will i give this land from the river of egypt under the great river euphrates so god made the covenant god made that covenant there you remember a little phrase i said at the beginning of the sermon tonight it was jonathan that did all the giving it was jonathan remember that little statement i made jonathan gave all the giving but can i tell you when you serve god in a covenant it seems at time that you're doing all the giving but stay in the covenant because things are going to turn you will be on the receiving end if you stay in the covenant david stands there that day with no fancy robe to give jonathan he stands there that day with no sword no shield no belt to give jonathan he walks away from that covenant receiving but history tells us that jonathan is now dead jonathan and saul are now dead a turn of events david is now sitting on the throne and the bible says in second samuel chapter nine tables begin to turn david had nothing to give on that day but in second samuel chapter 9 verse 1 get the scenery now jonathan is dead mephibosheth has been crippled now for some believe around 20 years he lives in a hideout most young men would go live in their father's neighborhood where their father was born but not mephibosheth he lives in fear that this king may come to take my life one day so he lives in a little dusty town a little obscured place called lotibar but in verse number 1 and david said is there any is there yet any that is left of the house of saul that i may show him kindness for jonathan's sake can i tell you the power of a covenant the power of a covenant and i believe with all my heart i believe there's people sitting here tonight that you have been drawn to god that your grandparents lay in graves tonight and you're drawn to the house of god not based on anything you've done but it all goes back to a covenant that your granny made or a covenant that your papal made or a covenant that your mother made mephibosheth you are crippled you're poor but david says is there anybody left of the house of saul and jonathan that i could show kindness for jonathan's sake there was a man of the house of saul a servant whose name was ziba and when they called him unto david the king said unto him art doubt ziba and he said thy servant is he and the king said is there any is there is there not yet any of the house of saul that i may show the kindness of god unto him and ziba said unto the king jonathan had the son which is lame on his feet and the king said unto him where is he and ziba said unto the king behold he is in the house of matur the son of emilial in lodibar then king david sent and fetched him out of the house of machar the son of emil from lotibar now when mephibosheth the son of jonathan the son of saul was come to unto david he fell upon his face and did reverence and david said mephibosheth and he answered behold thy servant you've got to understand this mephibosheth doesn't know what's about to happen he's probably shaking he is probably trembling he's laying he is he is laying before he is laying before the king and the king calls his name and david said unto him look at that verse 7 fear not for i will surely show thee kindness for jonathan thy father's sake and will restore thee all the land of saul thy father and thou shall eat bread at my table continually can i tell you the comfort of a covenant was that this young man had one thing going for him and that was his father jonathan had made a covenant you don't have to live in fear anymore jonathan mephibosheth you don't have to live in fear and in poverty anymore you don't have to look over your shoulder you don't have to do all that why because your father made a covenant with the king david and the king david has been looking for for some way to find to help you oh i i just want to jump into this part tonight god has made a covenant with lost humanity you can't get any gorier than a hill called calvary and a crucified savior and all of that is saying to you i want to make covenant with you if any man will come unto me and thirst out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water who does god love tonight whosoever will tonight there may be some people in here that you're fearful that you are a mephibosheth that you've went too far for god to love you you've mired your life too much you've done too much you've said too much you've tried too much you've tried the church scene well i want you to know tonight this is not religion religion is simply knowledge of god but salvation is a relationship with god i've not come here tonight to preach a religion i've come here tonight to introduce you i want you to know he's been looking for you i want you to know he's been searching after you you're here tonight because the holy ghost has been going throughout blount county today it's been knocking on doors going underneath the doors talking to people's heart why there's some people here tonight that the last thing you knew you would be the last place you knew you thought you would be would be in an apostolic church on a sunday night but here you are and it's a divine set up because god has called you in the midst because there's the comfort of there was a young man who was a thief up north there was a young man he was a thief he was a burglar man he was a thief he he was a professional thief he did it for a living he lived had to to steal to break in his mind his mind was geared to look to houses that would be easy to break into his mind was geared in all this and finally he began to spot a woman who left her little house at a particular time and came back at a particular time and she was going to church he could pretty well map it off when she left and when she came home so he decided one sunday evening to clean her house out so he went in got all of her electronics and uh in a hurry to get out he just went ahead and grabbed a bag of tapes that was beside that and uh as he did that he took her electronics back to the house and uh he was going to just throw the tapes away but he thought he wanted to listen to what the old woman had been listening to and it just so happened the old woman had just got a set of tapes of an apostolic holy ghost camp meeting and so he put one of the tapes in and began to listen and something got a hold of his heart and he began to listen more and something got a hold of his heart he thought about throwing them away but every time he went to throw them away the phone would ring something would happen but he would come back after he'd go out and steal things he'd come back listen to an apostolic pentecostal camp meeting until one night he got to listening to it and god put him under conviction and he called the law on himself and he told him how he stole all these tapes took him back to that woman got baptized in jesus name and he got the holy ghost and he's living for god today god wants to make a covenant with you that's how bad god wants you that's how bad god wants you god will let you go to jail and say well god's letting me down no he didn't he put you in the cell where somebody would be preaching the gospel and you could find him that's how much god wants you oh come on musicians come on musicians gods a covenant tonight you're not going to get by it's too many backsliders former backsliders that could stand right now and say that man is preaching it try to leave him see if you get away so easy he'll belly up to every bar you belly up to that's exactly right i got a witness now he'll be like our god oh yes oh yes he'll go to every let me tell you wilma wilma pennington took her children to church she took her children to church and she taught them the good ways of god but one of her sons one of her sons they got got in church but he got a little wayward he got a little wayward and his wife said that she didn't understand it at the time but said he kenny and her would go to bars and said kenny would get in fights in bars over the trinity he would get drunk and start looking around at the bar telling other drunks here at the bar there wasn't anything you know the trinity and all of this and there's only one god in all our hollis that and they get in a fight you know why you might walk away from the pew and the church house but you're not going to walk away from a covenant keeping god some people have backslidden from an apostolic on fire for god church and they decided to come back and go to some place that was lukewarm and about half true preaching but they found themselves sitting in the middle of that sin i can't stay here i've got to get where the truth is preach because we serve a covenant come on help me praise him tonight come on if you're thankful for a god that keeps covering it remain standing with me tonight mephibosheth i david stood before your father on a day i had nothing to give your father but now i do your father's grave lays over yonder hill mephibosheth i restore unto you all the property of your grandfather saul i restore unto you all the fields of your father jonathan mephibosheth i give to you an army of farmers that shall plow your fields plant your fields i give to you mephibosheth because listen to this now mephibosheth had fathered a son he had a son you can find his you can find the genealogy mephibosheth in chronicles mephibosheth father son and his son father children and when he restored when david said i restored to you all the land of your grandfather saul and i'm restoring to you all the land of your father jonathan and i give you an army of farmers that'll go right now and start plowing the fields it wasn't from a vivid ship and i'm going to turn you upside down with this one it wasn't from a pivot it was for his sons and his grandsons it wasn't for him so how do you know that for sure verse 13 of chapter 9 verse 13. mephibosheth dwelt in jerusalem for he did eat continually at the king's table and was lame on both of his feet hey the restoration wasn't for mephibosheth because mephibosheth is going to eat at the king's table every day he's going to sit down at the king's table and when people walk in and say who's that kid somebody's gonna say you bear be careful he's a covenant keeping kid he's a part of the covenant david said you're going to eat bread at my table i want you to know tonight that god wants you to come to his supper table right now god wants you to come to his supper table right now well you don't know what i'm fighting brother carpenter i believe what you but would you let me get some wars fought in my life would you let me get some things straightened out if you let me get some things straight down i'll come can i give you one more verse before i let you go psalms 23 god prepares a table for me in the presence of my hey the best place to eat right in front of your enemy because the enemy would like to keep you from the table because the weaker that you are the stronger he is but god wants to invite you to his table tonight so i'm just a little discouraged real quick i'm going to just tell you i'm running low tonight i'm just a little discouraged are you yeah i've been thinking about going back okay you're in good company the apostle peter thought about going back he watched him beat he watched him be beat he watched him be crucified as a matter of fact early one morning and the scriptures record this sister tharp it records us peter looks around and he says i go a fishing you know what he's really saying i'm going back guys that's where he called us was from the boats i i'm going fishing i'm going fishing and they fished all night long didn't catch anything just as soon as the sun came up you could barely see on shore was a
