have your bibles and return with me tonight to the book of proverbs chapter 18 verse 21. proverbs chapter 18 verse 21 god loves his church god loves his church it's so good to see a number of saints from brother luna's church and oak ridge so good to have you all worshiping and praising god with us tonight how about brother salinas did you enjoy that this evening we're making a way we're making a way that when brother salinas goes back to chile um it's a custom in chile that most ministers are bi-vocational they are bi-vocational and they work all their life by vocational and when they retire around 60 or 70 then they go full-time in the ministry and this church is sending the salinas family back to chile they will be supported by this church and he will no longer be my vocational he needs to be full-time in the work of god full time in the world folks the sun is setting i don't know if you understand this or not but the sun is setting on our generation and whatever you're going to do for god you better do it and you better do it quick and you better do it now and he'll be full-time in the ministry evangelizing starting churches all over chile argentina peru all of those countries it's our man it's our man and we love you brother and sister salinas and the salinas family we love you tonight we love you you are a part of first apostolic church of maryville and we love you you're our brothers and sisters in the lord and we love you proverbs 18 and 21 death and life are in the power of the tongue they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof i want to continue tonight part 2. the people of one language father i ask you to anoint us tonight god touch this church tonight god you know how hell would try to us and divert us and distract us but god we are an evangelistic church we are a soul-winning church we are a hell-shaking church we are a church moved by your spirit led by your spirit and god touch us tonight in the name of jesus christ we pray amen and amen you may be seated this evening the power of death and life is in the tongue we could take that one simple verse tonight and just simply go home because within your mouth within your mouth is the ability the power to create with words to create death with your words or to create life with those words the choice would be the one who controls the tongue i can use my tongue i can use my words and by that i can either produce death around me death within me and i can also produce death around me or i can take those same words and i can speak and i can produce life within myself i can encourage myself and i can encourage those that are around me we understand the scripture has a great deal to say about the tongue and about the words psalms 19 and verse number 14 the psalmist would plead with god and cry out to god and say let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight o lord my strength and my redeemer he cried out and he said god let the words of my mouth and then he went even deeper he said in the meditation of my heart let it pass your inspection let it be something god that you're pleased with because after all you are my strength and you are my redeemer the psalmist would go further in psalms 141 and verse 3. and he would ask the lord he would say set a watch o lord before my mouth keep the doors of my lips oh god set a watch before my mouth god he he asked god if god would place his spirit before him and set a watch god before my mouth and keep the doors what he's saying there is god don't let me utter foolish words don't let me utter foolish words god god don't let me utter slanders and lies and god don't don't let me utter don't let me utter gossip in a tail bearing god don't don't let me use my tongue god to hurt anyone set a watch before my mouth oh god jesus christ god incarnate would speak in matthew 12 33 and he would tell us in matthew 12 33 about the heart and the mouth because you can never separate your heart from your mouth can never separate your heart from your mouth whatever your heart mouth speaks it was first in your heart from the abundance from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks jesus referring to this in matthew 12 33 made this statement he said either make the tree good and his fruit good or else make the tree corrupt and his fruit corrupt for a tree is known by his fruit he's talking about speech here you know that we are known by the words we speak the words we speak are more powerful the words we speak are more powerful than any other witness you have toward god dancing is wonderful but words are more important aisle running is wonderful and i participate in all of those but what's more important in my life is the words that i speak he said a tree would be known by its fruit a man is known by his words he then revealed to them in verse 34 old generation of vipers oh generate old generation of vipers he's talking about a snake here he said how can ye being evil speak good things for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh he refers to that viper to that snake a snake will kill you by the poison that is in its tongue it is there that that snake injects into your bloodstream the poison that it has it is because of that words are able to get in our bloodstream if words are able to get in our spiritual bloodstream then i want good words in my bloodstream i want healthy words in my bloodstream he said a good man out of the good treasure of his heart of the heart bringeth forth good things again he's talking about the heart and the sp and words an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things but i say unto you listen to this verse look at it laser it in your mind but i say unto you that every idle word that men speak they shall give an account thereof in the day of judgment wow wow every idle word we speak jesus said you're going to account for that word when it comes to judgment that one verse alone ought to strike conviction through all of our hearts that one word alone should cause us to be very careful what we say and what we repeat it's interesting sister carpenter this word here in the greek idol idol has the meaning of unemployed that's what it means it means every unemployed word you see if your words leave your mouth they ought to be given a job there shouldn't be any unemployed unemployed words that you send forth from your mouth shouldn't be any sluggish words shouldn't be any words that cause damage to anybody else to yourself or anybody else around you shouldn't be words that demean people shouldn't be words of criticism shouldn't be shouldn't be words of sarcasm because you create that death around you and jesus warned every idle word that men speak they shall give an account thereof in the day of judgment i tell you one of the first things you ought to say one of the daily prayer one of the things you ought to utter out of your mouth when it comes to prayer every morning you ought to say god if i've said anything i should not say god if i've uttered a word that i should not utter or when that that little that little pinch of the holy ghost just kind of pinches you a little bit in that conversation be man or woman enough to go back and say you know what i i was talking to you the other day and and i said a few things and man i kind of felt a pinch of the holy ghost i'm sorry that i said those things and i i shouldn't have said those things i shouldn't have carried i shouldn't have carried that like i did i shouldn't we ought to have been praying about that person and not talking about that person we ought to be getting together we ought to be getting together praying for one another not getting together and talking about one another getting together and praying for one another will birth life getting together and talking about each other will birth death i don't want to birth death i need all the people that i can get to go to heaven i don't want to go to heaven and god say you said some words now i really don't expect this to be a message that we run the aisles of that i have to have you seated tonight but what sets the miracle church apart is not our fantastic music program and that we have why don't we give our music program a hand right now what sets this church apart what's this sets this church apart sister erickson what sets this church apart tonight is not our mission's giving it's not our missions giving but about three weeks ago on a sunday night we raised 190 000 am i safe to say about 140 has already am i safe to say about 140 am am i right no well i can't read lips am i right about they say that's good about 140 a thousand has already been sent in for that young man to get that house built is that great that great if you don't know that great you don't know what giving is all about all right that's great all right but what makes us great what makes this church great is not the music and it's not the missions giving and it's not a stellar daycare and it's not a stellar school it's not a magnificent building what makes this church great is that for over four decades for over four decades you have been able to be preached to when you can preach to a congress there's some congregations that if you're not giving them a milky way and a pizza and a diet coke they ain't there if you ain't telling about angels 10 feet tall and people having tumors fall off their head if you're not if you're not just seeing angels and demons and all that they just they're in snoresville and i've been to those places i've been to those places they got a diet of the miraculous and you ain't calling somebody out telling them what they ate for breakfast and what they're going to eat tomorrow for breakfast and what their social security number is and you saw an angel and the angel put you in your hotel room and you had all these grand things they're they're asleep but this church has been able for four decades to allow a man of god to stand it was first our brother arwood and then me to stand in this pulpit brother erickson and preach to him and when we see things coming in the church the time to stop a fire is not when it's ravishing the building but when it's a little bitty spark that's trying to come in it's time to get the fire extinguisher out and say wait a minute that talk is not healthy that talk may not even be true that's a tail bearer and i'm going to put it out right here because we don't need anybody to die well i said i wasn't going to have to set you down i guess i lied james james chapter 3 james chapter three and verse number one james is my favorite book if you if you don't have a favorite book in the bible right now read james i love james he's practical you don't have to have greek and hebrew to understand james james writes it very practical he says things like a man is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed of his own lust it really really really great he says simple things like if you hear the word of god and you see what you need to fix go fix it don't have to be a greek a hebrew scholar to understand that james says things he just says real simple things you know just just just just real simple things i love james my brethren be not many masters knowing that we shall receive the greater damn condemnation in other words he's saying to people that want to teach with words he said be careful because you're going to fall under a greater level of judgment for in many things we offend all if any man offend not in word the same as a perfect man and able also to bridle the whole body you want to control yourself start with your tongue behold we put bits bits in the horse's mouths that they may obey us and we turn about their whole body a little eight ounce steel bit placed in a horse's mouth that weighs several hundreds of pounds that little eight ounce bit can turn that horse to the left to the right cause it to run cause it to stop all controlled by a small piece of steel in its mouth that large animal is controlled and james now you know why i love him so much brother perry now i understand that that little small bit in that mouth controls that whole massive beast and james is saying he's not giving you a lesson on horses he's giving you a lesson on the power of your mouth your power of your tongue that little that little fla that little piece of flesh that's in your tongue can control your whole body that little piece of flesh can encourage you that little piece of flesh can talk to you and say you know god said he would never leave me and he would never forsake me and he would be with me unto the end i am a blood-bought spirit-filled water baptized daughter child of the most high god i am the head and not the tail i am above and not beneath my god is going to bri i can i can do that oh but you don't know i've sinned if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship with another and the blood of his dear son cleanseth us from all unrighteousness jesus christ died for my sins he hung up on a cross he shed his blood he ascended into heaven he gave me the holy ghost the blood is there and it grants me the right to walk into the throne room by the authority of his name i can walk in the courtroom and i can say lord i need your forgiveness a little bit just a little bit james goes further in verse 4. behold also the ships which though they be so great and and are driven with fish winds yet they are turned about with a very small hymn whether so ever the governor listeneth think about that that little short bit of steel turns that turns that whole beast and then he says that short rudder is what we would call it that short rudder that's like three or four feet deep and three or four feet wide that huge ship those fierce winds but all it takes is somebody that's got his hand upon the rudder and turns the ship left or turns the ship right and he's talking about our tongue he goes on to say in verse 5 even so the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth and the tongue is a fire a world of iniquity so is the tongue among our members that it defileth the whole body and set it on fire the course of nature and is set on fire of hell he says your tongue is like a little fire i wonder tonight if you got a text on your phone that said your house has a little fire in it right now it's got a little fire in it right now you wouldn't just sit here you'd be getting up you'd be getting out of here why it's just a little fire don't you understand little fires turn into big fires a few years ago we had our smoky mountains on fire it started with just a little fire you see things can get out of hand just with a little wrong long wrong words just just a little bit of wrong words get sowed a little bit of wrong words get sowed in somebody's just speak a little bit of wrong words i recently had this happen i didn't ask the person they came and asked me for forgiveness they came and asked me for forgiveness i was preaching and recently and between here and vietnam and all i'll tell you it wasn't here okay and a person came up to me on the last night the holy ghost had been moving and the person said would you please forgive me and i said well what have i done and she said it wasn't what you did see i just told you it was a she that narrows it down right she said years ago someone told me something about you and said i believed it and said i have looked at you through those lens i have looked at you through those lens ever since somebody told me but said hearing you preach this week the holy ghost dealt with me and let me know that what i had heard was not the truth about you and i've come to ask you to forgive you see for years that woman carried something in her heart that somebody planted in their heart it simply was not true church let's be careful what we say let's just be careful what we say what a little fire almost a great part of chicago burned down years ago because a woman's cow kicked a stool over that kicked a lamp over a lantern and it caught one barn on fire and another and before the night was out a great part of chicago was on fire behold how great a matter of little fire it's set on fire of hell verse seven for every kind of beast and birds and serpents and of the things in the sea is tamed and have been tamed of mankind but the tongue can no man tame it is an unruly mem unruly evil full of deadly poison there with bless we god even the father and therewith curse we men which which are made after the similitude of god out of the same mouth proceed of blessings and cursings my brethren these things ought not so to be james said animals have been tamed you can take a dog to a trainer and you can get that dog to sit at a snap roll over at two snaps you can get that dog to do all kinds of things i'm telling you sea world's got dolphins that have been trained to come up and jump through hoops you can train animals but your tongue you can't tame that's why we need the baptism of the holy ghost and we don't just need the baptism of the holy ghost initially five years ago we need to be current on speaking with other tongues we need to be current on being connected to the spirit and allowing the spirit to pray through us but your tongue will hold you back your tongue will say you said hallelujah enough your tongue will say you've you've said glory enough you want to get lost in the spirit until you get reconnected with god and you begin to let that language flow again now as your pastor as your pastor let me tell you there's two there's two extremes on speaking in tongues here's one extreme they come around and say you ought to speak in tongues every day if you don't speak in tongues every day you don't have the holy ghost that's an extreme false doctrine that is not true that is not true you're not speaking in tongues every day you're not right you you know you ought to speak into if you ought to you ought to be four hallelujahs away from speaking in tongues well grandiosis is that spanish i thought i might be doing those things as talking in tongues in spanish you know good for you but where i live i don't know i'm ever for i don't know i'm never before thank you jesus is away from talking in tongues because i got an unruly member in my mouth sometimes i have to keep this unruly member in the frame of prayer and praise and worship oh god lord i love you but to say you got to speak in tongues every day to be saved to know you've got the holy ghost that's not right that's not right i'm your pastor and that's not right that's extreme over here but i'm jesus stream over here i got the holy ghost 40 years ago and i didn't smoke in tongues since i think that's an extreme too i believe that's an extreme two i got 20 years ago i spoke in tongues that's an extreme somewhere let's find ourselves right here in the middle where we not only brought our tongue under submission to god the night we initially got the holy ghost brother nolan but we continually bring the most unruly member of our bodies into the presence of god and you're going to praise god and you're going to worship god and magnify god i want to speak in other land i want to speak in other tongues because no man can tame the tongue only god can do that and people that are staying close enough to god to be tongue talkers they're not gossipers they're not backbiters they're not tail bears would you give him praise right now i want to encourage my brothers i want to encourage my church family use your words to produce life stay away from anything stay away from anything ken to the devil i'll give you a few examples the devil is a slanderer the devil slanders okay slander what is slander slander is to cast doubt upon one's reputation or character you don't have to come right out and say it you don't have to come right out and say it you can just get with somebody and they're saying you know that that sister sharp i'll tell you what she is such a good worker and she's a she's just she's just always working one wants to be used of god and somebody gets jealous and all they have to say is well you don't know her like i know her wait oh you know what you just did you slandered sister shark because the person that said that goes away and adds to it you do realize that gossip never diminishes it's like an avalanche it's like an avalanche it never gets smaller it just grows and that's that's slander that's slander boy i tell you brother so i'm so sure he's a fine man well i just think i'd my mama taught me if i can't say something good not to say nothing at all you devil let's see if satan slanders genesis chapter 3 verse 4 genesis 3 verse 4 satan has a conversation with eve and the serpent genesis 3 and 4 and the serpent said unto the woman you shall not surely die now what's that you you shouldn't surely die come on even get to thinking i mean ain't nobody gonna come give me something and say well if you'll drink this you won't surely die i don't like that surely die part you shall not surely die for god doth know that in the day you eat thereof your eyes shall be opened and you shall be as god's knowing good and evil what has satan done to god slandered him well you know why he don't want you to eat that tree there it has nothing to do with has nothing to do with he's a loving god and a good god he just simply knows that when you eat of that tree you're going to be like him and after all he don't want anybody to be like him slandered god and slander causes people to see other people in the light of the slander you see whatever that that person slandered me with for years there's been a woman that wouldn't set and listen to me preach for years there's been someone that when my name was mentioned just didn't like the fact my name was mentioned because she had heard slander but it took the holy ghost to convict her heart and she came and think of all the years think of all the years that woman had a falsehood you know there's possible tonight a crowd like this there's possible that some of you have ideas in your minds about other people and opinions that are nothing more than slander of what you heard somebody else say and somebody else say come on church we're better than that come on church we're better than that if i'm going to believe something bad about a person i want to know that it's the absolute truth and when i know that it's absolute truth i ain't telling you and i'm not telling you and i'm not telling you i'm going to take it to god and let god take care of it come on church we're better than that we're first apostolic church we're a miracle church we're a world shaking church slander slander job chapter 1 verse number 6 job chapter 1 verse number 6. now there was a day when the sons of god came to present themselves before the lord and satan came also among them and the lord said unto satan whence cometh thou then satan answered the lord and said from going to and fro in the earth and walking up and down in it and the lord said unto satan hast thou considered my servant job there's none like him in the earth a perfect and upright man one that feareth god and in true with evil god got to bragging on him said man job loves me job fights evil job's my man then satan answered come on slanderer then satan answered the lord and said job fear god for naught come on god you really think job just loves you for you hast thou not made a hedge about him and about his house and about all that he hath on every side thou has blessed the works of his hands and his substance is increased in the land put forth thine hand now and touch all that he had and he will curse thee to thy face he said come on god oh job don't serve you for nothing he's got fields and farms and sheep and oxen he's got all these things that's why he served why you take all of that away from him and he would curse you to him to your face god what's he trying to do slander the reason and the motive that job serves god slandering a motive of this man and of course at the end i'm not going to preach the story tonight but we all know a bible if we're if you're a bible student you know tonight satan lost didn't he because everything was taken from job his health his wealth his children but what did he do the lord giveth and the lord taketh away blessed be the name of the lord he showed satan i'm not in it for the money i'm not in it for the fields i'm in it because god is upon my side that's why i am in this but i guess tonight we have to accept the fact that haters will hate hurt people will hurt gossipers will gossip tail barrels bearers will carry tails i guess we just have to live with the fact that this will happen but jesus says in matthew 5 11 blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake can i tell you if you've been talked about don't leave church if you've been talked about don't don't don't don't do something crazy like get out of your position at your church if someone has slandered you someone has said something untrue about you don't let it affect you because jesus said because you are mine they will revile you and they will persecute you and they will say all manner of evil falsely against you you got to understand something there are people that it bothers them that you're living for god if you would stop living for god they could sit around and say uh-huh i told you they would eventually give up uh-huh i told you they just go into that church just to be seen uh-huh i told you and the very fact that we keep on standing and we keep on praising and we keep on worshiping and we keep on giving and we keep on sharing it just drives them out of their minds go ahead and slander me go ahead and slander me well carpenter can preach that hole in this business look at that big church he's got he could preach that hole in his business he can run folks off and still make it are you turbo stupid that was actually a slanderer that was put up on me on carpenter he can preach that real hard stuff you know i can't preach because i don't have very many saints that's the reason you don't well anyway uh so you just you you gotta understand something has nothing to do with size of crowd how many was with me with us on mcgill street did i preach it there how many was with us up on the hill did we preach it there how many were with us now we're in the cathedral are we still preaching it that's right because it has nothing to do with the crowd if everybody walks out we better still baptize in jesus name if everybody leaves us we better still believe there's one god let them slam it let them slander let them slander and i'll tell you what i yeah i'm a chemical enough time for them all right what you do you prove your slander is wrong you ought to live to prove your critics wrong acts chapter 20 acts chapter 20 verse number eight acts 20 and verse number eight there was a slander going on by the salinas in the book of acts the enemies of the church were slandering the church for a while the church was meeting in dark places having church they were meeting in dark caves they were meeting in dark places and the slanderers of the church begin to say oh you know what them men are women you know what they're doing down there in that cave well you know they're down there and doing god knows what and they begin to insinuate that sexual immoralities were taking place in the apostolic church and so we come to the book of acts and why the holy ghost put this here in the book of acts chapter 20 and verse number eight it says and there were many lights in the upper chamber where they were gathered together if you study this out you will find that to answer the slanders they begin to put more lights that were needed in the rooms they were in they began to light up the room they said bring me more lights in here so that there's no shadow in the corner bring me more lights in here so everybody can see what we're doing you see when the slanders are saying we ought to do everything we can do to prove the slanders wrong haters want you to hate them back let's love them back haters want you to talk bad about them when they send their little ambassadors to you with their slanderous report they want you to say well if they said this about me blessed god i'm going to say that about them no you know what you say when they come and say well they kind of question who you are they question all other things about you you just say you know what i heard that person years ago there are tremendous sunday school teacher they're tremendous this they're tremendous that the bible says if we do good to those that despitefully use us that we heap coals of fire on their head now please that don't mean you're good to them and it just burns them up all right that's not what it's talking about ain't talking about that it's if someone is against you just return love and prayers back to them and you will heap coals of fire on their head and help them to be able to take it home to their house and start their love fire again you nor i need no enemies so let's pray for our enemies let's pray for those that despitefully use us it'll be the hardest thing you do i challenge you in jesus name when someone what i mean they just absolutely hate you they would like to see you fall flat on your face you somewhere get in a corner and say god i want you to bless them with health god i want you to bless them with prosperity god i want you to be of other children god i want you to be upon their homes god i want you to catch them oh the 7 30's got me already musicians would you come leviticus chapter 19 verse 14 thou shalt not curse the death nor put a stumbling block before the blind what kind of person would curse a deaf person brother kenny what kind of a person would curse a deaf person or better than that brother-in-law what kind of a person would find a blind man tapping his way through the street and throw a log out in front of him can i answer that for you cruel cruel cruel cruel person would do that thou shalt not curse the dead nor put a stumbling block before the blind but thou shalt fear thy god i am the lord you shall not do unrighteousness in judgment thou shalt not respect the person of the poor nor honor the person of the mighty but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbor thou shalt not go up and down as a tail bearer among my thy people neither shall thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor for i am the lord in the midst of that cruelty i think we all i think we all agree to curse a deaf person how cruel you are to take a stick or a brick and put it out in front of a blind person and watch them trip and fall how cruel hearted you are but do we view tale bearing as the same because it falls in the same category to carry tails to carry tails on someone to carry it from this one to that one church you hear me we are better than that proverbs 20 and 19 he that goeth about as a tail bearer reveals secrets therefore metal not with him that flattered with his lips in other words when you got it the best way to iso the best way to get rid of tailbearers around here is isolate them don't let them spew out on you if it's a person that's known to have the dirt on everybody stay away from them they can't talk about god and the good things of the church you don't need to have fellowship with them stay away from them why well you tell me i'm telling you stay away from you know why sooner or later you keep hearing that same old tail bearing stuff over and over and over again then you'll start looking at everybody through the through the lens you don't need that in your life you got enough to deal with than to have to deal with a tail bearer in your life let me finish here and please i'm not mad tonight i'm pleased sometimes when i'm anointed you hard tell the difference but i'm not mad i'm just stirred because i'm going to tell you something we can preach about wrong places to go we can preach about wrong things to wear and i preach about it we preach about wrong places and wrong things to wear and wrong music to listen to but the greatest enemy you'll ever have in your life is a friend of a tail bearer it's the greatest enemy because you'll begin to believe let me read this one last verse of scripture verses of scripture romans chapter 1 verse 26 for this cause god shall give them up unto vile affections their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature this is sexual perversion and likewise also the men leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust one toward another men with men working that was just is unseemingly and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meat even as they did not like to retain god in their knowledge god gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient being filled with all unrighteousness this is a this is what a reprobate mind is being filled with all unrighteousness fornication wickedness covetousness maliciousness full of envy murder debate deceit malignity whisperers whisperers backbiters haters of god despiteful proud boasters inventors of evil things disobedient to parents without understanding covenant breakers without natural affection implacable unmerciful who knowing the judgment of god that they which commit such things are worthy of death not only do they do the same but they have pleasure in them that do them tonight i'm not talking about sexual perversion homosexuality lesbianism and the like but do you see that god had paul to inject in the mix of that sewer that god had paul to say things like whispers and backbiters oh friend i just think if people could realize how cruel it is to slander how cruel it is to carry tails how many how many people have cried themselves to sleep at night and never returned back to a church because they heard the tale that was being told on them we're not here not here church we're better than that we're the apostolic church god help us god help us let me read the same thing i read to you from a different translation for this reason god gave them over to their own disgraceful and vile passions inflamed with lust for one another men and women ignored the natural order and exchanged normal sexual relations for homosexuality women engaged in lesbian conduct and men committed sinful acts with me and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their sin and because they thought it
