a few moments tonight first kings chapter 18 and verse number 41. how many would like to hear from the word of the lord tonight first kings chapter 18 and verse number 41 please be patient with those putting the scripture on the screen they have texted me repeatedly the last hour pastor where are your notes pastor where are your notes help us faster and so um you'll see here in just a few moments you'll see here in just a few moments i just got a thought i just got a thought and first kings chapter 18 verse 41 and elijah said unto ahab get me up eat and drink for there is a sound of abundance of rain for a few moments tonight i want to preach on this simple subject and i you're truly god's people and i i truly want to preach faith to you tonight the spirit of expectation the spirit of expectation put your bibles down let's just pray right now father we love you father we thank you tonight for your love and for your mercy god these are your people god you've done a special work here in maryville god you have raised up god you have raised up a world-changing church god right here from the city of maryville you have raised up men and women god of extraordinary spiritual insight and dedication god you are doing something wonderful here god i just pray tonight that i can be used to bless your people i'll give you the praise and honor glory in jesus name we pray amen you may be seated tonight you may be seated how many want to take a journey to a miracle i mean it want to be a miracle i mean you want to take a journey to a miracle you want to go there right you want to go to that miracle i am reminded of a little story i heard this past week a little boy came home and he told his mother he said mom me and my three friends helped an elderly lady today to cross the street the mother said well johnny that's good i'm glad you helped an elderly lady cross the street today and the mom said but i got a question why did it take you and your three friends he said because she didn't want to go i hope i can take you across the street tonight i hope you want to go i hope you want to go turn with me now and we're just going to kind of you'll see in a moment why i i didn't send the notes numbers chapter 2 verse number 3. first verse said i hear the sound i hear the sound of the abundance of rain this verse says and on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of judah pitch throughout their armies man they pitched their tent they pitched toward the rising of the sun every morning they got up early because they had pitched toward the rising of a new day i like that if i'm going to be looking in any direction yesterday's gone and today is pretty much burnt up but if i'm going to be looking any direction i would like to be looking into tomorrow and all that tomorrow holds why don't you turn to second corinthians chapter number 1 verse number 20. somebody say praise the lord for all the promises of god for all the promises of god in him are ye and in him amen unto the glory of god by us all the promises of god all the promises of god the spirit of expectation the spirit of expectation the definition of the word expectation is the state of thinking or hoping that something especially something pleasant will happen or be the case expectation is just believing that something good is about to happen something good is on its way expectation is just simply that nudge that urge that feeling some good's happening something good is on its way please hear me right tonight i'm not belittling somebody hearing from god for me i appreciate anybody that hears from god for me or feels you hear from god for me but i would like to make a request most people that hear from god for me always have me in some kind of storm oh help us jesus they always kind of uh brother carpenter i was praying for you and and there was a funnel cloud coming down and and and you you look like you were lost in and okay i'll i'll add that i'll put that in the library with i i put that the rest of him you know i you know brother carpenter i had this dream about you and and this and that and that and this and it was gloomy and dark and not a lot to look forward to but i like somebody have a dream that might be goes like this but carpenter i saw you he's 20 pounds lighter man your hair was a little darker you don't even die man you you look real good man you you just seemed like everything was going your way now i do know that god has used people at times but you know as a child of god we shouldn't always be going through a valley i read my bible it says we're more than conquerors we're more than conquerors through christ jesus so i began to pray today and seek the lord for tonight's service and and it seemed like i had some thoughts but it seemed like god just kept bringing me around preach to my people tonight that i want them to get the spirit of expectation i want them to believe that good things are up upon the horizon because i am a good god and i am filled with good things so i started with the prophet elijah you see the the only thing that keeps us from having the spirit of expectation would be sin sin the only thing that keeps god from blessing us is a three-letter word sin and uh so that word has got to be confronted and sin has got to be dealt with in order for the spirit of heaviness to leave us because sin always brings the spirit of heaviness and heaviness will never leave us until we deal with sin and so the prophet um elijah appeared to the man causing the sin his name was ahab and he appeared unto him in the 17th chapter of first kings and he informed ahab that it was not going to rain according to elijah's word that there would be no rain now in that day that was horrible news because they depended upon basically two rainy seasons a year they basically had two seasons of rain and then the rest of the time they got their moisture from the dew but the prophet came out and he said israel has got a sin problem israel has got a sin problem and you're not going to enjoy the rain and the dew from heaven and enjoy sin at the same time the bible emphatically says god will not allow that to happen you cannot be in sin and the blessings of god at the same time and so the prophet said to ahab who represents sin he said according to my word it's not going to rain and there's not going to be any dew upon the ground now at first ahab probably brushed him off at first he probably went home and told his wife jezebel that i ran into one of those jehovah fanatics today i i ran into one of those devoted jehovah about said witnesses i ran into one of those uh followers of jehovah today and and he said something crazy like it's not going to rain there's not going to be any do well you you see god has a way of turning the spigot off god has a way god has a way of waking us up when we are living in sin of which i will say to god tonight publicly thank you jesus thank you jesus and so a week went by and no rain and a month went by and no rain and uh eventually eventually creeks start drying up brooks start drying up the ground turns brown uh vegetation is is is simply gone and and there's no harvest and brothers and sisters not only did this go on for a month it went on for 12 months and not only did it go on for 12 months are you ready for this are you ready it went on for 42 months jesus said it three and a half years james wrote about it three and a half years of no rain now we're getting desperate but it's interesting ahab had a an assistant by the name of obadiah and uh it's when you put ahab and obadiah together you really see the true nature of how you can can react when god turns the spigot off because ahab sees elijah as the enemy of israel you're the troubler of this nation you have caused there to be a three and a half year drought i'm blaming everything on ahab no harvest it's ahab's f it's it's elijah's fault uh no corn it's elijah's fault i'm i'm blaming everything on elijah but now ahab's assistant obadiah obadiah feared the lord as a matter of fact obadiah took a hundred of the prophets of god and hid them in a cave and fed them with bread and with water because the bible simply says he feared the lord you know i looked at that today and i thought that's pretty much the view of sin you will either see the voice of repentance as an enemy or you will see the voice of repentance as a friend i hope tonight that you see the voice of repentance as your friend because it is only by the word of god that you can gain repentance the rain is not coming until we deal with sin the reign of your life is not coming until you have a confrontation with sin now the only way to have a confrontation with sin the safest place to have a confrontation with sin is a place called the altar the altar is the best place in all the world to confront sin because the altar represents the brazen altar of the old testament where the lamb was brought and was slain and in the new testament the altar represents the cross of calvary where the great lamb of god shed his blood for the payment of sin so if you want to fight with sin can i tell you tonight at the end of my message this is the best place in all the world to fight with sin it's at the altar and so ahab and elijah get into a conversation and before the conversation is over with elijah the prophet of god said i challenge you said we need a god to answer us don't we i serve jehovah the living god and bell said yes or ahab said yes and i serve baal the god of prosperity the god of freedom the god that lets me to express myself in any way that i want i serve the god of baal many gods of baal and you serve one lonely god one god of abraham isaac and jacob and so eli just said well let's do this and that all kind of gathered kind of in like you all are gathered in he said i am one man that's all i am i'm just one man standing here and said you and your wife have employed 450 false prophets of baal i'm one man you're 450. why don't we do this you choose two bullets you choose two bullets you take one and then you give me one you take your bullet and you place it on the altar and you call upon the names of your gods and i will take my bullock and place it upon my altar and i will call upon the name of my god and the god that answereth by fire let him be god man they stood back and some of them said now that's a good word because either way today of course i think that elijah's opening statement brother jones to the 450 why halt you between two opinions if god be god serve him and if they'll be god serve baal in other words they were limping between they couldn't decide if they was going to serve baal sin or they was going to serve god righteousness so he just comes along and he says you know we need to settle this because you don't need to keep limping between sin and god sin and god said why don't we just say that the god that answers by fire let's let him be god and so the worshipers of baal took their their their bullock and they they cut it up in pieces and they laid it on the altar and they started that morning obel hear us oh bill hear our prayer hear us obel an hour went by and a couple hours went by and a couple more hours went by and all of a sudden they they said well what this altar needs is a little emotions in it and so they started leaping on the altar oh bell hear us obel hear us so bell hear us obel hear us sobel hear us here listen still no fire about that time elijah decided to do a little mocking because i'm going to tell you when you want to live a life of sin you better get ready for a little mocking to come your way and he began to say hey he said why don't y'all holler a little louder maybe bell is asleep and you need to wake him up or or maybe he's not answering you because he's on a vacation somewhere and about that time that turned to anger and so the next thing they got they got little small razor blades out and they begin to cut themselves they begin to cut themselves and let the blood drain from their body they just felt like that we've tried prayer meditations of bail and and we tried leaping and and now let's just mutilate our bodies maybe if baal sees how bloody we are he'll he'll come down and do something but but nothing else happened then the last thing they started doing they start prophesying to each other oh thus saith baal he shall answer in a while oh just be true just hold on bell's on the way the fire's on the way saith baal bell's going to do this and they were just cackling each other and prophesying to each other until they got tired of it i'm going to tell you something i don't care who prophesies to you until we address sin in our life it's not going to get better i don't care who tells you you're right if you know you're wrong sin will always be the issue that stands in the way i don't care how many prophecies somebody gives you i don't care what they say about you you've got to deal with sin well about the time of the evening sacrifice elijah said y'all finished and evidently the last one said yeah we're finished and elijah steps out there and according to my king james version bible brother erickson he steps out there and prays a 58 word prayer 58 5 8 58 words he steps out there and says oh god of abraham isaac and jacob hear the words hear my prayer today he prays 58 word prayer and at the end of the 58th word all of a sudden heaven cracked open and the fire of god came down but now wait a minute i got ahead of myself i got ahead of myself when it came his time to have his altar he said i tell you what i want us to do i want you to bring me water and wait we're in a three three and a half year drought i want you to give bring water you're going to tell me something here you have some praise in your heart that's the most valuable thing between you and your god can i tell you it's not the money in your pocketbook tonight god's looking for it's the water of your praise that god is looking for if god can ever listen sometimes it's easier to throw money at things than it is to pray sometimes it's easier to think god wants our money when god doesn't want our money god wants the most valuable thing that we've got tonight and that's our communication of praise with him he said bring me bring me the water and they brought him water and he poured it out upon the sacrifice and he said bring me some more water and they brought they brought some more water and he poured it out he said bring me some more water and about that time you can imagine with me the bullock is drenched the wood is soaked not only that they dug a little trench around the altar and the little trench is filled up with water and then he prays 58 words and at the end of the 58th word heaven cracked open fire from god's throne came down and watch how it happened it happened in this order it consumed the sacrifice it consumed the wood it licked up the dust it got the dust and then like a thirsty god he ran his tongue around the around the altar area and licked up the water and when he did when he did the people fell on their faces and they said the lord he is god the lord he is god the next thing that happens the next thing that happens elijah orders that the 450 false prophets who evidently were not on their faces saying the lord he is god the 450 false prophets that stood with arms folded looking looking at the fire falling he said i'm not going to leave you here not only does god want to deal with sin in your life tonight but he also wants to deal in areas that keep bringing the sin into your life because what good is it to be set free from sin tonight if you've got a false prophet that is just waiting to give you more god wants to set you completely free tonight god wants you to give you the spirit of expectation i'm not preaching hype tonight i'm not preaching blabbing and grabbing tonight i'm not preaching easy believism tonight i'm telling you there is a sound of the abundance of rain i hear the sound of the abundance i hear the sound of the abundance of rain i hear the sound in the lives of the people i pastor i hear the sound of abundance of brain i hear that god if we will get that three-letter word out of our lives if we will get that sin out of our lives i see the rainbow i see the blue skies i see restoration i see things happening around here that you've only dreamed about happening i see lives being restored i see i i see people that have lived in self-pity and condemnation and they cannot look you in the face when they talk to you but if we can get sin out of the way i see them walking in with their shoulders back i see clear complexions i see white eyes i see people coming in in their right minds i see people holding down jobs i see people making a living i see people becoming what god wants them to be i hear the sound of the abundance of rain come on if you believe it tonight help me out come on praise him with me right now i i hear the sound i hear the sound of the abundance of rain i see the impossible taking place in your life i see god who is the same yesterday today and forevermore i see god changing the way that you process thoughts i see god giving you a new way of thinking a way of victory a way of power a way that we are the head you know he said that in the old testament he said i'm going to make you the head and not the tail you know what that means don't you the head is leading the tail is always following too many of us have went down the wrong road because we're following the wrong people we've ended up in places we didn't want to go because we're following the wrong path but god said if you'll allow me to put the spirit of expectation but i'm not going to give you the spirit of expectation until you address s-i-n in your life you have got to address s-i-n and the only place that the fire falls it doesn't fall on bar stools it doesn't fall on street corners it doesn't fall in front of televisions the only way the fire falls is in the altar yes it may mean tonight if i'm going to ever have the blessings of god i've got to stop sitting away in the back i've got to get up here around the front and i've got to lay my sin in the altar and i've got to let god deal with my sins come on church come on church we don't need none of this slipping in and slipping out business we need people coming say i've got some sin issue and i've got to bring it to the altar i see it i see it you'll have a different way of thinking he'll make you the head and not the tail you'll start leading and not following what do you mean by leading you'll start leading your lost family into these doors of this church you'll you'll be like that woman come see a man that told me everything i've ever done can you imagine can you imagine that woman having that testimony she had been she had she had told them of six men she had told mama cousins aunts and uncles about six different men she had met but boy that day when she wandered into the end of the village and she said come and see a man that told me everything he's the perfect man she'd been married five times she was currently living with somebody that wasn't her own that's six but when she met that man called jesus at that well that afternoon that was the seventh man seven is the number of completion it's a heavenly number can i tell you you're going to meet him and you're going to be the head and not the tail you're going to start leading your family some of your family that you have condemnation over because you led them down the wrong road but god is going to raise you up when you deal with s-i-n god is going to raise you up and you're going to be the head and not the kill you're going to march your family members in here by the dozens we're going to baptize them they're going to get the holy ghost their lives are going to be changed oh i believe it if you believe it shout i believe it i believe it i believe it the spirit of expectation i hear the sound i hear the sound of the abundance of rain i hear the sound of the abundance of brain i'm going to tell you something that was his first statement but the second thing he had to do just saying it is not enough you've got to get positioned and you got to get the right posture for the miracle just leaving you here tonight won't get it after elijah told ahab i hear the sound of abundance of rain he went up to the top of carmel that overlooks the sea the sea was the direction that all storms would blow in from the storms would blow in from the direction of the sea i say to you tonight that we need to position our lives in a place to where the winds of god frequently come in we need to come and if we hear the sound of abundance of rain and we want our lives to be changed then why don't we go to the place where god's wind is frequent to blow why don't we get in the posture you know the bible says god inhabits the praises of his people why don't we get in the posture of praise of the lifted hands of the hand clapping of the singing somebody said what are you doing i'm just getting in the place where the wind blows i'm just getting in the place where the wind comes through but now wait a minute now and i have actually seen very immature people do this i've actually seen very immature people come to church and and wait for about 15 minutes and if something super duper over the top don't happen i hear there's another church there's another apostolic church starting another 30 minutes let's run over there and see if it's happening over there i feel sorry for you you know why to hear the sound of abundance of rain he told a little servant boy he was praying he said go look out over the sea that's where the storms come in he said go look out over the sea and the boy went once and he'd come back and guess what he said he came back and he said nothing he said well go again he went the second time and he came back and he said nothing the third time help me out church fourth time fifth time sixth time but the seventh time can i tell you when you're serving god the six nothings are worth it to get to the seventh something oh hallelujah i'm telling you one something with god is worth six nothings you don't have to give me a chill buck you don't have to touch me special just give me six nothing's in the house of god and i'm gonna believe you for that seventh nothing something oh that's why that's the spirit of expectation i don't allow i don't allow a dead service to tell me that we're going to have a another dead service i allow that to tell me something good's brewing under the cover something good's brewing under the ground we're about to have a holy ghost explosion god's kind of been quiet i've been giving him some praise i've been giving him some honor don't you allow six nothings to cause you to give up on i hear the sound of abundance of rain i wish somebody would just shout something something i hear the sound of abundance of rain he said there arise at the little cloud about the side as a man's hand a small cloud like a man's hand when he got that small thing can i tell you something don't wait till you get a major victory to shout shout over a small cloud i promise you if god tests you with a small cloud if you'll shout over a small cloud god will give you another one if you'll shout over that cloud god will give you another cloud when god starts diminishing what he gives you is when we start diminishing our praise but if we want god to always be increasing just keep increasing your praise he said there's a there's a cloud small cloud come out of the sea uh kind of like a man's hand and elijah got up and he told ahab he said you better and ahab was eating and that's that's sin isn't it ahab was a glutton he was he was there eating and elijah turned around and he said ahab you better get your red checkered picnic blanket up you better fold it up you better get your basket and you better you better get put it in the chariot you better get down these roads are dry three and a half years no rain because it's gonna start raining and your chariot wheels are gonna get muddied up you better you better head on to jezreel now here's a wonderful thing jezreel was about 21 miles from mount carmel and so ahab believed him the skies got black ahab believed it so ahab had a horse he had a horse and a chariot and ahab is beating a track back to jezreel 20 something miles away but the bible said the hand of the lord came upon elijah he girded up his loins he got his garment tucked in his belt and the old dude took off running and the bible says that elijah outran ahab to the gate of jezreel i'd like to see that i like c.o.a just beating them horses trying to race the rain and all of a sudden in his rearview mirror he said what in the world's that and here come on elijah just a boogie man here come elijah just to get in it and he just kind of passed him by and waved at it can i tell you tonight i hear the sound of the abundance of rain there's giftings and callings and miracles and things that are going to happen just get sin somebody say expectation expectation i just feel like something good is about to happen i just feel like something good is on its way you got to have the spirit of expectation nothing's coming to you if you don't expect it to come nothing comes up boy when you start when you start expecting things start changing in your life when you start expecting things start changing you take a you take a little couple and and they're expecting amen and things start changing walls are painted a different color budgets are changed in the house why because we are expecting and that's the same thing when we begin to expect expectation with a miracle i hear the sound first apostolic church of miracle tonight i hear the sound of the abundance of rain first apostolic church of sevierville tonight i hear the sound you hear me brother morris i hear the sound of the abundance you believe it with me don't you brother morris i hear the sound of abundance of rain god's going to give us revival in severeville god's going to give us a harvest and several god's going to raise up a mighty apostolic jesus name church in sevierville how about my true purpose family tonight you you ladies and gentlemen i hear the sound of the abundance of rain over you i hear the sound i hear the sound of the abundance of rain i hear it tonight i hear it tonight i hear the sound there is a spirit of expectation oh i hear it i hear it there's a sound i i i got to keep on going brother jones i hear the sound of the abundance of rain for the assemblies of the lord jesus christ i hear the sound of rain rain rain i'm expecting rain rain rain oh god move on that prayer come on let's pray right now oh god move on that person right now oh god god you can do the impossible tonight oh god you can do the impossible tonight god you can blow our minds oh god you can blow our minds you can open doors you can blow our minds god i hear i hear the sound of the abundance of rain i i hear the sound i hear the sound i hear the sound i hear the sounds and hear the sounds but you got to have expectancy no expectancy you may be seen seated no expectancy no expectancy no miracles you don't expect it you're not gonna get it it's not going to be an accident you're going to know when you get it why because i've been expecting it i've been expecting god to open a door i've been expecting god to do this can i tell you you're if you're here tonight and you're a guest you're in a company of people that went about 12 years in the spirit of expectation we just for 12 years building this building just expected god to finish it we just expected every time we got a bid on something and some of the things we had to have done were large sums of money that had to be given at one time but you know what somehow someway we just expected god to do it we just we just had a spirit we just had a we just had a spirit of of expectation just a spirit i've seen god do it too many times i've seen god open too many doors i i've had god i've seen god have provided for all of this i i remember leaving for youth conference one year and uh we had a stack of bills uh brother carl on the on the table a stack of bills that were that were due and and i remember looking at the stack of bills when we left and and and they were going to get paid but it was going to it was going to wipe us out and uh no need to pay them early no need to be wiped out early you know and so we were waiting we got home and and then they came up and they said something about it at youth conference they said something about haiti the the the the bible college there the that needed a new roof on it and and and it had a earthquake and and they needed thousands of dollars and and and and they came and and and they they i told them i was i told them that yeah we we're in we're in we're in we're in uh those of you that you went with us that year that year that was the year pastor uh that was the year the the the uh they they believe i was diagnosed with that that please you shake my head tonight but the h1n1 virus and i've never been so sick in all of my life and and i laid uh i laid in the bed just about the whole conference and i was scheduled to preach i was scheduled to preach and and even at the last minute i had to tell them that there's no possible way and i hope you all know i had to be real sick for that to happen and and and uh well not only were they kept calling the room asking is brother cartman will be able to preach but they were going to raise an offering and they wanted to know you know how much the miracle church how what what can we put the maryville church down for and of course i know my wife knows we know the bills and we know all of that and all this and so she kept coming and she would say honey could you do you have an amount you have an amount and i'm i'm thinking i'm sick and we've got bills and i'm sick and we got bills and and and i thought you know i'm always the one and she knows this is the truth but i'm kind of always the one i'll i right i kind of go way up here and she's more like reasonable and got her feet on the ground and writes writes the checks and so i said honey honey i am so sick i i will bequeath that to you i will uh i i i will let you oh i will let you decide and she got down on her little hands and knees and prayed she came back in the room and she said honey i believe that god has spoken to me and told us to give ten thousand dollars i get up in that bed i said wait let me so we gave it and we came home on saturday morning we came we came home on friday but we came went back up to the church on saturday her and i to pray and before i went in to pray i had a little mailbox there in the office and so went by and checked my mail that i got that week and there was a letter in there from a man that is not even of our faith he's not even of our faith we are at that time our television ministry went up into west virginia and the man wrote me a letter and he said i've been watching the program and he said i i want to sow a seed into this ministry i believe in what you're doing and as i opened that letter up there was cashier's check in that letter for ten thousand dollars i've seen god do it you know something come on when you live with expectation you just walk with expectation you just you just simply walk i know god's going to make a way because i'm keeping s-i-n out of my life i'm keeping the word of god in my life i'm just walking with the spirit i'm just walking with a spirit of expectation can i tell you tonight let me let me preach on tithing just for a moment just because you tithe doesn't mean you're going to always have good times you may tithe and hit some hard times you may tithe and get laid off you may tithe and things might happen but can i tell you if you are a bible believing tither you can walk through a drought with the spirit of expectation yea though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i will fear no evil for thou art with me thy rod and thy staff they comfort me can i tell you if you are a bible praiser i don't care how in despair you get i don't care how much the glooms come to you if you'll keep blessing the lord on my soul and all that is within me i bless no expectation come on musicians come on musicians come on singers no expectations no expectations lift your hands up right now just praise him come on lift your hands up expect something right now oh yeah hallelujah how many is looking up tonight how many is looking up tonight that means looking up i'm looking up i'm looking up i'm looking up i'm looking up i'm looking at things will get better in jesus name things will get better in jesus name oh god search my heart and know my ways see if there be any wicked way found in me let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable unto thee oh god i'm looking up on this night i'm looking no expectation no miracles cause you tithe doesn't mean some dark days are not gonna come but what it does mean in the midst of your dark days you walk with a calm assurance raymond woodward called me in the midst of covet and it's an amazing thing it's amazing thing that we had an increase in our giving here at this local church in the season of covet and brother woodward we're sharing that with each other he said brother carpenter i am finding this across the fellowship churches that are missions giving churches literally has coveted proof their church you have insurance not for good times but for bad times that's why you have insurance and he said brother carpenter a missions-giving church like yours has literally prepared itself said god has his eye on you and god's not going to let this falter expect it through the dark times i'm just expecting through times when my mind is troubled i will praise the lord i will worship the god of my salvation i will magnify the lord i am looking up let me cover this real quickly acts chapter three and verse number one peter and john went to the temple at the hour of prayer the key phrase here is that there was a man there asking alms if he hadn't been there asking but here's another key he looked on them and the word is there expecting to receive something from them peter said silver and gold haven't none you know i imagine just for a moment
