if you have your bibles and return with me tonight in the book of psalms psalms 127 and verse number one i'm gonna say why you're looking for that passage of scripture if you're here tonight and this is your first time to be at the first apostolic church we welcome you and we're so glad that you have come to worship god with us when we consider the number of churches that you could be at tonight worshiping god and the fact that you would choose to come here is a tremendous compliment to this local church family and we thank you so very very much we hope by now that you have first and foremost felt the presence of god and we hope that you've also felt the presence of our thankfulness that you have come to worship with us this evening we want to say to the sister cheshian they pastor the apostolic church in crossfield and they are frequent guests here at first apostolic church and we love them and we're just about to give them membership here and we just love you folks so very very they're just family you just hear me they're just family they've got a wonderful church in crossfield and if you know any friends you have anybody in that area that needs a good apostolic church there they just their doors are open and i just thank thank god for them thank god for them this evening to our students tonight i offer a form of apology i am not the student pastor as you very well know that this evening normally the student pastor brother hammond uh he um sets the tone for the school year on this evening he is in west monroe louisiana he's been there since friday he's preaching for brother nathan thornton in the great church there and he will be back sometime in the morning and then next sunday night after you've had almost a week of school he's going to come and preach to you about all the kinks all right all the things we need to get right he's going to give you a week and then he's going to come and he's going to be ministering he's going to be ministering next sunday night thank you praise team thank you music team as usual you do a superb excellent job amen church amen thank god psalms chapter 127 verse number 1 except the lord build the house they labor in vain that build it except the lord keep the city the watchman waketh but in vain it is vain for you to rise up early to sit up late to eat the bread of sorrows for so he giveth his beloved sleep lo children are a heritage of the lord and the fruit of the womb is his reward as arrows are in the hand of a mighty man so our children of the youth happy is the man that hath this quiver full of them i think he had the very acts in mind the quiver full of them they shall not be ashamed but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate for just a few moments tonight before we will gather in the altar we will come up around the altar wait on any baptisms that prayerfully will take place and then sister erickson is going to organize and direct us to go through the back part of the building anointing our school teachers anointing doors and the building acknowledging god in this hour the sunday before school acknowledging god that we need him but for a few moments tonight i want to minister to you on this subject the value the value of a target the value of a target father i love you tonight i thank you for your love and mercy i thank you for the consistent move of your spirit that this church experiences i thank you god that it is a very common although you are not common but it's a very common thing for your glory to come down and kiss this place lord i pray for that young man that spoke to my wife this morning with tears streaming down his face unable to form his words and he said the message this morning was for him i pray that that young man is filled with the holy ghost yea even tonight lord god that you would reach out and touch him lord walk the aisles of this church tonight god have your way through the preaching of the word in jesus name we all pray amen and amen put your hands together and give him a hand to praise the value the value of the value of a target some have said if you aim at nothing you are most certainly to hit it the value of having the value of having a target psalms 127 was a continual song that they would sing as they made their way to the house of god as they made their way from miles away to jerusalem the house of god their journey was filled with different songs that they were seeing some of these songs were indications that they were getting closer some of the psalms that they were would sing were almost like mild markers when they would begin to sing a certain psalm they knew that they would they would understand and they would they would know that they were at a certain distance this psalms 127 is no exception it begins by simply saying except the lord build the house they labor in vain that build it what they have in mind here is the sure foundations the sure foundations of a house the foundation of a house is the most important feature of the house if the foundation is not proper does it matter how much money a yard on the carpet you spend does it matter about the brick or the doors if the if the foundation isn't proper if the foundation isn't proper then my friend then my friend if the foundation isn't isn't proper then we have structural damage and of course they are exuberant they are excited they are thankful because that they know that the house of god has a very firm foundation and they say except the lord build the house they labor in vain that build it except the lord be the inspector they labor in vain that build it and then any city that is built must needs have authorities must needs have those that watch over the city because bandits and thieves do not rob empty fields they're after cities and so when a city would be built it was of necessity that they would set watchmen upon the wall but once again once again you can do the building but god must do the instructing once again you can do the watching but god's got to be there keeping the city go ahead and put watchmen on the wall but you better understand the value of the one that keeps the city and you need to understand the value of the builder he goes on and he says about it was vain for us to rise up early and to sit up late to eat the bread of sorrows so we give it this beloved sleep he's actually saying there don't waste your time and money on things that don't matter don't don't don't waste your time and money on things that are not profitable be very careful about your time be very careful about how you spend time you may spend money and recoup it but if you spend time you never get that back and so he's saying be very careful how you spend time and be very careful how you you order your steps and then he comes to verse 3 which i'm interested in tonight at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year he uses the word lo that means to look to ponder to cast your eyes upon children are a heritage of the lord and the fruit of the womb is his reward children were and children should be today viewed as a sign of blessing from god there is no such thing as an unwanted child there may be some unfit parents but there's no unwanted children children are a blessing to god they are viewed as a blessing they are they have potential they have they have possibility and he says that children are a heritage of the lord and the fruit of the womb is his reward children were in the bible days and children should be viewed today every child every youth in this church should be viewed as a blessing from the almighty hand of god we should view them as potential we should view them as possibility of what god wants to do through their lives and again i want to pause for a moment and thank god that i never thought we would live to see the day of the reversal of roe versus wade but praise the lord praise the lord as a matter of fact i'll tell you how children were viewed in the bible in genesis 30 and verse number one rachel was unable to give her husband children she was unable to produce a child so she simply made this statement give me children or else i die she so viewed a child as a blessing from god that she made the statement if i have no children i have no life he then as he gives the potential of the children how they are the fruit of the womb they are a reward from god in verse 4 they begin to sing about as arrows are in the hand of a mighty man so our children of the youth he begin to liken children to arrows you understand that in the bible days arrows a bow and arrow was used for two purposes number one to hunt and kill food and number two to protect yourself an arrow was used to hunt food and an arrow was used to protect yourself the analogy is made that children are likened to arrows they are likened to arrows you must understand that this was before the manufacturing of an arrow and in the bible days when a man wanted to make an arrow he had to first find a stick it was first a stick and then an arrow you did not cut arrows down from a tree you cut sticks down from a tree and you would take the stick and you would so form and cut and carve and shave and work with it until it would shoot straight until it was a dependable error we understand when god gives us children that there's much work to come by the child there's much work when we have our children that's why it's essential to train them that's why it's essential to bring them to the house of god on a regular basis and if you would like the kenny hebrew slash greek interpretation of regular that is every time the doors are open bring them to church bring them when they're young bring them when they're in diapers bring them to the house of god train them let some of the first words they say what god one god one god let some of the first words they say we work with sticks and we form sticks in two we we form sticks into arrows but it doesn't just say as arrows it says as arrows in the hand of a mighty man you can put a bow and arrow in my hand and i'm dangerous you can put a bow and arrow probably in seth jeter's hand and he may bring back a kill put a bow and arrow in brother erickson's hand somebody watch out put it in the hand of brother randy cogdle you'll probably bring back something you mount on you something you can mount on the wall you see it's just not arrows in the hand of a man it's arrows in the hand of a mighty man it's arrows in the hand of a man that knows what to do with arrows i believe that the parents of fac maryville and i believe the parents of students of aca maryville i believe we're mighty men i believe we know why we have the children that we have because we understand that they're an arrow and the arrow in the hand of a mighty man can bring us tomorrow's meal or it can keep away the enemy from our doors and so he begins to liken it to a mighty man you parents are mighty people tonight i commend you i applaud you tonight you are mighty you are mighty men to know to know the value the value of sunday school the value of youth class the value of wednesday night bible study the value of an apostolic christian academy it was moses mother and father you do remember the story in judges chapter 13. in judges chapter 13 and verse 12 it was the angel that appeared to sampson's mother and told samson's mother that she was going to give birth to samson and she went home and told her husband manoa and when she told her husband the husband had one question in judges 13 and verse 12 how shall we order the child how shall we do for him in other words when that father understood that he hadn't he didn't have an ordinary child he had a promised child from god his question to the angel was tell me how i order the child tell me how i trained the child tell me what i do for the child because you have given me something that is very special and i want to take care of it as a parent tonight and now a grandparent tonight i become ever so aware of the fact that i want to take care of the children and the grandchildren that god has given us it is not going to be haphazard our children there is a value of a target we cannot leave it alone and hope that they turn out right we have got to work with them and so work with them until they have a target and i'll simply tell you our target tonight is that every child at aca has a personal experience through the apostolic new birth and a healthy relationship with jesus christ that is our target that our children are raised in the fear of god and their children believe they're not accidents they're not products of evolution they serve a god who has a work for them to do that is our target i wish somebody would help me praise him tonight that is our target i will go ahead and tell you there's not a student here tonight that god doesn't love there is not a student here tonight that has went so far that god has turned his back on you there is not a bad student in the group tonight i will tell you this evening that my personal target for you before the school year is out in 2023 is if you don't have the holy ghost you'll have the holy ghost if you've not been water baptized in jesus name you'll be water baptized in jesus name and should you get the holy ghost very early in the school year i want to close out the school year with you having a daily personal talk with god until you believe that god is going to use your life that's my target that is our target we can never become of the mindset that anything is more spiritual or anything is more important than the raising of our children there is nothing as important as the training of your children this church cannot have any greater ministry than aca this church can have no greater ministry than our daycare this church of taking children a few weeks old and putting them in a climate of where they hear the name of jesus and they hear godly music and they're loved on by holy ghost-filled teachers can i tell you something you cannot top that ministry god is wanting us to understand how valuable the ministry of children is it happened in the 10th chapter of the book of mark it happened in the day in the life of jesus christ mark chapter 10 and verse number 13. the day in the life of jesus he had been teaching he had been teaching a marriage class he had been talking about the cause of divorce he had been wrangling with the pharisees again and then in verse number 13 and they brought young children to him that he should touch them and his disciples rebuked those that brought them can you hear that can you see can you see peter and james and john as a mother walks up with a child in her arms and they say something wrong with the child is a child deaf is a child blind a child crippled something wrong with a child no sir no sir peter no sir brother john i just want jesus to touch this child i want the future of this child to have the fingerprint of divinity upon it i want this child to grow up with the fear of god i just want this child to be touched do you really think he's got time for this don't you know he's dealing with devils over here don't you know he's casting out devils you see him foam in the mouth over here don't you don't you see these people over here he just healed this woman over here this man standing in line to be healed this woman standing in line to be healed don't you understand that this is really something that can wait go on don't have time for the children but verse 14 says but when jesus saw it but when jesus saw it he was it doesn't it doesn't say displeased it says he was much displeased and said unto them suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of god when he turned around and and he was talking to the pharisees and telling them about marriage and and he was healing the sick but when he turned around and he heard peter say we don't have time for that little child we don't have time for that little girl over there he said what what peter what did you just say who what what did you just say peter don't you ever tell one more mother not to bring their children to me don't you ever tell another man not to bring his son he said suffer the little children in other words provide a way for them form a way for them to come to me to every sunday school teacher that may be discouraged can i tell you we are fighting the hounds of hell because the last thing hell wants is for you to get in the mind of that five-year-old that there is a god that cares about them we have got to create roads we have got to create methods brother nolan we have got to create activities that cause little children to say i want to go to church i want to go to sunday school i i will i want to i want to be i don't care what it is bring on the bouncy house bring on the cotton candy if it causes kids to want to come to church bring it on bring it on don't you ever tell another child not to come into my present well peter you think you're all hot and mighty spiritual operating in the gifts you get a clown suit on and get me some kids in here you think you're all high and mighty and super spiritual pseudo looking out and you know that those folks that look that they're up there where the air is rare you know and and all of that come on won't you put a smile on your face and let somebody put a black dot on your nose and get in a classroom and tell somebody that jesus loves me this i know for the bible tells me so you red yellow black or white we're all precious in god's sight i'm talking about the value of a target the value the value of a target turn with me to first samuel this evening first samuel is a very interesting story in the life of david i wish i had time to tell you and to really set the the uh the scenery there but just a reader's digest version saul wants to kill david saul is hunting him david's wife even had to put pillows in a bed and make it look like david was sleeping there because saul was going to kill him saul's son jonathan loved david and they had a special connection together david is running from saul david meets up with jonathan and david simply begs him what have i done your father's gonna kill me and and and jonathan says no he said i'll protect you he said if i if i hear that if i hear that my father is going to do anything i'll i'll let you know and david says no jonathan no your father knows that we have this special relationship he won't tell you and finally jonathan said well let's do this david said there's a new moon a new feast day and we're all supposed to eat at saul's house we do that every year we eat at saul's house and why don't you stay here in the field stay here in the field and saul will see that your seed is empty and how he responds to the empty seed can come back out here to the field and i'll tell you that you either need to run for your life or you need to come on back to the castle everything's cool how he responds so the first day of the feast saul sets there in his chair jonathan sits in his chair and saul looks and sees that david's seat is empty and on the first day saul begins to think there must be some sin in david's life david must have some kind of sin that he's not here at the feast gave saul a little bit of uh a little bit of in his mind being thankful that he thought his enemy was sinning and so the second day came around and david's seat was empty saul looks over to jonathan he says a son and would you know why david's seat would be empty and jonathan said sure dad david asked that he could go back to bethlehem and do sacrifice and i gave him permission saul flew into a furious jealous rage he began to curse his own son jonathan he began to curse his own son and his own wife he got so enraged at jonathan that he picked up the javelin and he threw it and would have killed his own son jonathan jonathan comes back out to the wilderness and jonathan tells david this he said i'm going to come back out to the wilderness and i'm going to shoot some arrows if i shoot arrows close to you then take the arrows and come to me everything is good but if i shoot the arrows beyond and you hear me say to the lad that gathers the arrows if you hear me say to the lad gather up the arrows or they're beyond you then understand that mischief has been determined well let me let me let me allow first samuel 20 and 35. and it came to pass in the morning that jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with david and a little lad with him sounds like to me he's got a child with him and he said unto his lad run find out now the arrows which i shoot and as the lad ran he shot an arrow beyond him and when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which jonathan had shot jonathan cried after the lad and said it's not the arrows beyond thee and jonathan cried after the lad make speed haste stay not and jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows and came to his master but the lad knew not anything only jonathan and david knew the matter now i want you to get your attention on the lad because the lad is gathering up the arrows but he has no idea why he is doing what he is doing it is just another mundane day of going out with jonathan to go look for the arrows that he shoots it's just another mundane day but he doesn't understand that god has always had a message in the mundane days god can always speak to us through a routine god can always speak to us it's not just on mountaintop experiences and it's strong tower that god can can speak to us but i'm here to tell you that god can speak to our lads every monday through friday from eight o'clock to three o'clock when they're doing their routines of prayer bible reading academics and all of that god is able to speak to them and i believe that the lad is going to move with the arrows and god is going to speak to them i am believing that god is going to move in three ways this year i believe the arrow of spirituality is going to move upon the student body of a c a i am claiming my target of revival and harvest and the moving of god's spirit it may not be a i'll run it may be the gentle breeze of god's spirit as it blows through the hallways of aca and across the school rooms of aca but my target is no child left behind my target is that we're going to see our children become more spiritually fit than ever before no child not only that but academically academically let me tell you something we're not going to shoot arrows that you can easily pick up we're going to shoot arrows beyond you that challenge you aca is not for wimps and we shall not raise and minister to a weak minded generation we have the children of meshach and abednego here we have the daniels and the jeremiahs and the esther's and the hannah's we have the cream of the crop here so we're going to challenge you we're not just going to give you the answer we're going to shoot it beyond you and say go look for it and be challenged can you give god praise tonight we're going to shoot an arrow in rush in rush we're going to shoot an arrow beyond you and we're going to say it was good that you got a blessing last friday but this is a new friday and we're going to shoot an arrow a little bit beyond you i'll say to you we need some youth to pick up the gifts of the spirit we don't need just middle-aged people giving tongues and interpretation we need some school kids given tons of interpretation we need to shoot the arrow come on help me praise him right now we're going to shoot the arrow behind you i'm going to shoot the arrow behind you spiritually we're going to pick you we're going to prick you spiritually we're not going to let you stand and not praise the lord we're going to pray for you we want you to worship god we want to shoot an arrow just beyond you academically we're not going to give you the answer we're going to shoot the arrow behind you and we're going to have to do something called study study teacher's not just going to give you the answer she's going to shoot the arrow behind beyond you and say just go look over there look over the under because we want to raise mentally tough kids physically physically oh yes physically physically we're going to shoot the arrow beyond physical exercise is good you may be seated when i was in school i thought i was a tailback on the team because every time i got off the bench a coach told me get my tail back i thought i was a physical exercise good thank god when you walk through a gymnasium and sister mary and produce got them out there running challenge them push them i don't feel good run anyway run anyway all right anyway you get to feeling better i was brought up i don't think it hurt me when i got up in the morning i said i don't feel good mom she said get up you'll feel better they didn't worry about warping my psyche they didn't worry about anything like that they just pushed me the problem with this generation we got too many parents handing the arrow to them and not enough shooting it beyond go ahead and run a little faster sister i don't know if it's just a produce class or not you may be seated we were taking one of our grandkids to practice and said oh when he said oh i got to be there on time if i don't huh tracy hurston i got to be there on time sit for every minute i'm late she's going to make me walk a mile or so huh run a lap run run lap and she's late one minute that's one lap around the gym late two minutes two laps running well that mean oh tracy hearst that no no you know what that lady is doing she's shooting the arrow beyond she's shooting the arrow beyond she said it's important to be on time we want to raise students that are on time for work shoot the arrow parents we're going to shoot the area the arrow beyond spiritually parents want to shoot the arrow beyond academically parents we're going to shoot the arrow beyond physically because we want to mentally challenge we want to develop mentally tough children some of you wonder if i'm really preaching tonight you know why we got to raise them to be tough and to make decisions on their own is because one day they're going to be on their own they're not gonna be in sister helm's class they're not gonna be here from eight to three so we can watch them and make sure they do this and do that they gonna graduate from high school they gonna go to college they gonna get married they're gonna get they're gonna be out on their own one of the one of the most painful moments is when your child gets their driver's license and you stand in the driveway and watch them drive away oh god help us everybody needs to have this experience this was back before gps and all this i won't tell you which daughter it was you got 50 50 chance of hitting you it's around dark dad i'm lost where are you at i'm over here in knoxville somewhere it's dark what's what do you see around you dilapidated abandoned buildings oh god oh baby oh baby just get out on the highway and drive drive tell me what you see bushes trees white lines keep driving baby keep driving while you where you see what you see thank god lord and god i mean thank god thank god come on i got any parents can feel my pain tonight can i tell you why we got to train them spiritually it's because they're going to hear a different message one day and they got when they hear the different message out there in college when the college professors tells them they come from an ape they're going to stand up and say i come from king jesus not king kong when somebody tries to tell them that you don't have to have this and don't have to have that they're going to stand up and say no when i was in school they taught me the word of god shoot the arrow shoot the arrow shoot the air run for it children run for it search it dig it out you're going to be on your own one day and when you're on your own one day i'm going to teach you i'm going to teach you to respect i'm going to teach you you're going to know to respect but there's coming today second kings chapter 13 second kings chapter 13 and verse number 14. look at this closely second kings 13 and verse 14. now elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died i don't care how long you want to keep your parents around and grandparents and pastor we're gonna die you know it's gonna have your mom and dad you know he's gonna have you pastor you're young exuberant agile pastor is going to show some signs of aging and you're going to say i remember him when and you're elisha he's going to die one day your elisha's going to die one day you're going to come to him like joash did joash the king of israel came down unto him and wept over his face and said oh my father my father the chariot of israel and the horsemen thereof oh my father oh my mom and dad that raised me oh my mom and dad that taught me the right way oh my pastor that taught me the right way and joash is weeping he remembers yesterday but every elisha knows that their well-done job is not how well you act in my presence but it's how well you act out of our presence every parent knows tonight it's not how they act when they're at home it's how they're going to act when they move out on their own will they still come to church will they still keep the right friends will they still have the right entertainment will they still live for god will they walk in the house of god with their own babies because you brought them as a baby that's when we know that we've done our job thank you for your respect joash thank you that you remembered me in all of my 13 miracles that i did thank you that you remembered how powerful a man of god i was joash but joash i'm about to die in verse 15 and elisha said unto him take bow and arrows and he took unto him bow and arrows and he said to the king of israel put thine hand upon the bow and he put his hands upon it and elisha put his hands up on the king's hands put his hands tyler come up here for a moment do you know how to shoot a bow and arrow you know what it looks like yeah it's good enough that's good take bow and arrow act like you don't pick it up take a bow arrow all right open the window first i see that's an anderson slide up window go ahead and open the wind again tyler take a bow and arrow and then the old man of god came around him like this and he put his hands on tyler's hands and he said shoot he pulled it back the arrow went out the window and the man of god said joash that arrow represents victory over the syrians those troublemakers they're always keeping us bogged down with war they're always antagonizing us attacking us they're always robbing our fields that arrow represents deliverance over syria god has given you the victory it's yours he's given you the victory it belongs to you now tyler take the arrow and smite the ground boom boom what that's as excited as you can get if i could put my hands on your hands you shot the right direction when i put my hands on your hands you could shoot that direction but tyler i'm about to die i'm not always going to be in your life from eight to three i'm about to move off the scene and you're gonna have the arrow all by yourself what did you do measly half-heartedly taken victory and just did a little tap tap tap tyler you should have smitten the ground five or six times you should have wore it out you should have got excited you should have wore it out but tyler because you half-heartedly took what i gave you and tapped the ground you'll defeat them three times and then after that you're going to always have trouble with them thank you brother tyler can i tell you something tonight i am looking to raise the rapture generation i am looking i do not subscribe that our youth has to go down down down down down down i do not subscribe that we're living in an age that you can't have a spiritual youth group you can't have a spiritual christian school i do not subscribe to that i believe god's gonna give us the greatest student body that we have ever had in the 30 years of aca god's going to give it to us if you're not already standing stand right now listen to me parents listen to me students i can tell you the direction to go i can teach you on how many gods there are and the way to be baptized and what how you ought to look as a young lady and how you ought to act as a young man but there's one thing i can't do i cannot react for you i cannot react for you your reaction determines on whether or not you'll be a rapture school body or you'll get in this cycle of just falling into junk getting out falling into junk getting out you've got too much of church to be happy in the world and you've got too much of the world to be happy in the church and you'll just go through that cycle and that cycle you'll marry out of the faith you'll have a husband or a wife that don't serve god you'll barely hang on you'll come to church just you and your kids because he won't get out of bed or she won't get out of bed god's got something better for you than that i want to shoot the arrow i wish somebody helped me preach is this the truth so how about get with it young people how about let's get with it tonight does somebody have a dance does somebody have a shout did somebody have a praise come on can we get with it tonight hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah the joy of the lord is my strength the joy of the lord is my strength praise he the lord praise him in his sanctuary praise him in the firmament of his power let everything that had breath praise praise praise i will run through a troop i will leap over a wall my god my god my god my god my god my god yay hey ben lee shouldn't be the only aisle runner we need some aca students that will take off tonight yes come out we need some aca students yes hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah that's right that's right reagan that's right that's right that's right shoot the arrow shoot the arrow shoot the arrow just a little further come on thank you lord thank you lord come on elisha's getting winded but there's some young lungs here tonight there's some young lads here tonight come on come on well hell yeah yeah yeah come on come on tonight come on tonight come on tonight in the name of the lord in the name of the lord dance dance dance how you dance is going to determine your victory i can't dance for you i can't pray for you i can tell you how but i can't do it for you shoot the arrow shoot the arrow shoot the arrow shoot the arrow shoot the arrow shoot the arrow i can't dance for you i can't dance for you you gotta dance for yourself the wind is open the wind is open the wind is open the arrow's in your hands come on did it he did it he did it oh yes god hallelujah hallelujah yes yes is will fall away of away we're the spirit of the lord and the spirit of the lord there is so i dance like he did it's like the weight has been lifted he did he did me he did is hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah anyone anyone tonight that wants to be water baptized in jesus name we
