have your bibles and return with me this morning to the book of colossians colossians chapter 3 and verse number 17 the book of colossians chapter number 3 verse number 17. uh we welcomed our guests that are here this morning and i want to echo what pastor nolan and pastor hammond said today about the guests that are here but we have an unseen audience our online audience that worships with us and we want to welcome our online audience today from maryville knoxville cambodia around the world all right would you put your hands together and welcome our online we so thank you for you know pastor nolan said he said that we live in the bible built he made a bunch of references of a lot of churches but think about our online congregation we're not the only church online and the millions of services that they could click on right now and be watching the fact that they would be here with us this morning is a trip let's give them another big hand right now thank you i got a prayer request this past week and the prayer request came i have a cousin by the name of christy christie connor her and her husband wayne connor um they uh they own a business in knoxville christie is my cousin and uh i haven't probably seen christy probably be i would say probably 40 50 years that i've seen her and someone sent me a prayer request christy is battling with cancer and i was told that christie is a faithful watcher here online christie if you're watching this morning we pray healing over you in the name that is above every name we pray healing over your body right there christy christie right there in your room if you would just lift up your hands and begin to breathe that precious name of jesus oh god catch christy connor right now lord you're the healer of our you're the healer of our bodies you're the waymaker god lord let it be done in the name that is above every name in jesus name we pray if you believe god heard our prayers this morning would you give him a hand of praise sister kaikandal it's so good to have you with us today uh sister kaikandal her and her husband are our missionaries to ireland and we're so glad to have them with us this morning and and we're also glad to have a special guest with us today anthony brown anthony is so good to have you at first apostolic church with us today and he works with brother perry been out here the the church working and just a fine young man and thank you so much for being with us so good to have part of the paul and silas missionary couple with us today brother erickson and brother schnitzer have just returned from a trip to the philippines extremely fruitful and just part of them made it back today i don't know why did you keep hitting brother erickson in the jaw for and uh aren't you glad for the good word of god this morning colossians 3 17 and whatsoever you do in word or deed do all in the name of the lord jesus giving thanks to god and the father by him let's pray father thank you today for your word thank you lord for the word that is our compass thank you for your word that is our guide god when i can't find my way your word can be a lamp and a light lord move upon us today god let our hearts be receptive to your word and we'll give you the praise and the honor in jesus name we pray amen you may be seated somebody said somebody said the word is like the word is like natural bread i heard this this week said the word is like natural bread natural bread it rises in the yeast and sits in the west waste that is true isn't it well today i want to preach and teach on why we baptize in the name of jesus why we baptize in the name of jesus paul said that whatever we do in word or need that word deed there means action whatever we do in word or deed do all in the name of jesus that's why when we pray that's an action and when we pray we end our prayer by saying in jesus name i'm telling you in your name is not enough or in the name of christ is not enough but i believe there's something about mentioning that name jesus we pray over our food and when we end our prayer over our food we say in the name of jesus we pray everything we do in word or indeed we do all in the name of jesus that's why we baptize in the name of jesus the bible said whatever we do in word or indeed do all in the name of jesus john the baptist said i indeed baptize you so baptism is an action but i want us to go back to the very beginning because in understanding why we do certain things founded upon the word of god it's essential that we go back to the very if we go back to the very beginning you can't go back any further than genesis chapter one and verse number one in the beginning god created the heaven and the earth and the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep and the spirit of god moved upon the face of the waters now we're going to bring water into the subject because in order to baptize in jesus name it deals with water it deals with water of course we understand as we we don't go very far in school that we understand that water is the one essential thing for life you've got to have water in order to have life no water no life all these planets out here that they're trying to decide is their life is their life on mars is there life out here the one thing they're looking for is not green martians they're looking for water because if they can find water this is in the natural they can find life so look with me and let's break this down genesis 1 and verses 2 you have the earth that's what we're made from you have darkness you have the spirit of god and you have water look at these four things the earth darkness the spirit of god and waters now let me first inform you that the darkness here in genesis 1 and 2 is not the absence of the sun it's not the absence of the sun we understand that the sun was not created to a few days later in creation so the darkness here is the spiritual wicked cast out of heaven rebellious adversary along with all of the other spirits that followed the spirit of god well it's without explanation today we all understand what the spirit of god is in him is light and there is no darkness at all we know that this devil is referred to on many occasions as darkness and then the waters the waters represent the waters represent life the earth represents what we're made from the spirit of god represents who's going to form us and the darkness there is the ones that want to blind us and keep us back from the beautiful relationship that we can have with our creator jesus christ turn with me now to second peter chapter number three and verse number uh verse number three and through verse six second peter three and verse three through six knowing this first that there shall come in the last days scoffers there shall come in the last day scoffers walking after their own lusts now a scoffer and a marker are like cousins together all right but particularly the scoffer is scoffing at god he is scoffing at god he is he is he is um he is scoffing at what god has done or what god has promised to do so peter said that in the last days there were come scoffers walking after their own lust and saying where is the promise of his coming for since the fathers fell asleep all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation so the scoffer comes along and he scoffs about he mocks about the promise of the lord's return he scoffs at that and he mocks at that about the promise that the lord will come again now he says that how they scoff at this they just simply come out in the open and say where is the promise of his coming where is he well i heard my grandmother and my great-grandmother and i i've heard this for years that that that that he is coming and then he says no since our fathers fell asleep or they died all things just continue as they were from the beginning of creation in other words people are dying and it's just going to be sun up sundown month in month out year in year out it's just going to continue this way verse 5. for this they willingly are ignorant of now it's one thing to be ignorant but it's another thing to want to be ignorant it's one thing to be ignorant of something and it's another thing to know better they are willingly ignorant of it that by the word of god the heavens were of old and the earth standing out of the water and in the water whereby the world that then was being overflowed with water perished you see the scoffer commits one horrible error the scoffer commits one horrible error the scoffer forgets that god created the earth the scoffer forgets that it's god's creation it's god's handiwork it was god that made this earth and then on top of that when the scoffer doesn't give credit to the creator then the scoffer forgets that the creator is not only a creator but he is a god of judgment he's just not a god that can create but he's a god that can turn around and judge what he created he just didn't make man he became the he became the the the lord god of man and when it came time to judge a man he cannot only say i'm your creator he can say i'm also the one that will judge you and he judged he says the the scoffer has forgotten that god is creator and the scoffer has forgotten that the world verse 6 the world that then was the world that he created being overflowed with water perished being overflowed with water perished isn't this amazing when we begin to look at water but water cannot only bring life but water can also bring judgment so this same thing that god uses to bring life god also uses to bring judgment follow me to genesis chapter 7 verse 19 talking about noah's flood and the waters prevailed exceedingly above the earth and all the high heels that were under the whole heaven were covered 15 cubits upward did the waters prevail and the mountains were covered 20 feet taller than any mountain the floods covered so there was no hope not a chance for man to survive and all flesh died that moved upon the earth both of fowl and of cattle and of beasts and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth and every man all in whose nostrils was the breath of life of all that was in the dry land look at this last word and say this last word with me god used water not just to bring life but god also used water god also used water to bring judgment god used water to destroy man because of his sins god used water to destroy man because of his sins at the same time god saved noah with a plan because noah found grace in the eyes of the lord now follow this now because this is going to help you to understand this is not tomato tomato this is not just something we're saying it's just not jesus name versus father son holy ghost this goes much deeper than that surface issue that we've got the same water that brought death was the same water that saved noah from corruption look with me look with me in first peter chapter 3 verse number 18 first peter chapter 3 verse 18. for christ also has suffered for us for sins christ has suffered for sins the just for the unjust that he might bring us to god being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the spirit he was put to death in the flesh but he was quickened brought back to life by the spirit you can't crucify the spirit of god you cannot crucify god because god is a spirit you can't nail a spirit to a cross but you can nail a vessel that god caused its existence and when god withdraws himself from that that's what happened on the cross when jesus said my god my god why have you forsaken me it was because that's exactly what happened because almighty god was forsook that body so that that body could be the perfect sacrifice for sins because you cannot crucify god but quicken look at the end of that verse again but quickened by the spirit by the spirit by which look at verse 19 by which by which the spirit by the spirit also he went and preached unto the prayer and to the spirits in prison which sometime were disobedient when once the longsuffering of god waited in the days of noah while the ark was preparing wherein few that is eight that his eight souls were saved by water now i want to deal with i want to go back to verse 19 and deal with that because there is a gross misconception about this it says by the spirit by which he he he went and preached unto the spirits in prison now some want to present this and it's almost the doctrine of a second chance that when jesus descended into the lower parts of hell and stripped satan of the keys of death held in the grave that he went and preached to spirits that were in prison well this simply is not true this would bring forth a doctrine of a second chance that these people got a second chance to be freed from prison after death it's just it's just simply not so to believe that would fall in line with the people that believe that a person can die and you can go down and get a candle and and burn it and and pray prayers for the dead and if you pray enough prayers you can pray those people out of a place called purgatory and these doctrines are simply not found in the word of god so if this is not jesus when he descended and took the keys if this is not him preaching then then then what is it then what is it now we're going to come back to this in just a moment but if you will go to second peter chapter two and verse number four the explanation of this will come in second peter chapter two and verse number four for if god spared not the angels that sinned but cast them down to hell and delivered them into the chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment and spared not the old world but saved but saved noah the eighth person noah was a look at this a preacher of righteousness bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly what was noah doing he wasn't just a boat builder he was a preacher of righteousness so to be a preacher of righteousness your audience has to be a congregation of unrighteousness so noah was preaching righteousness to the world that was unrighteous now if you would go to first peter and i know we're bouncing all over the place here but go to first peter chapter 1 verse number 11. we've established noah is a preacher of righteousness we have we have established that that christ uh being put to death in the flesh but quickened about spirit by which he went and preached into the spirits in prison first peter 1 11 searching what or what manner of time the spirit of christ which was in them did signify when it testified beforehand of the sufferings of christ and the glory that should follow unto whom it was revealed that not unto themselves but unto us they did minister the things which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the holy ghost sent down from heaven which things the angels desire to look into this is not jesus going into hell and giving men a second chance this is the spirit of god that was in jeremiah that was in isaiah that was in ezekiel the spirit of christ the spirit of god was in them and they were testifying so the spirit of god was in noah the spirit of christ that means anointing the spirit of christ god was in noah and noah was preaching to unrighteous people and all the time it wasn't just noah preaching it was the spirit of god that was in him the spirit of god was trying to tell these men that were in prison of sin turn from your sins lay your sins down turn back to the god of your fathers stop this wicked vile living and all of while it was noah's voice it was noah's body but inside of him his inspiration was from from god it was from christ it was from god that was in him just like noah was given the blueprints to the to the ark that he built those were not noah's plans those were god's plans now let's go back to first peter chapter 3 and verse number 19 talking about the spirit by which also he went and preached into the spirits in prison when one which sometime were disobedient when once the longsuffering of god waited in the days of noah you know why the longsuffering of god waited because god's a merciful god he wants you to turn at the voice of preaching he wants you to turn some say well i believe that i believe the lord you know should have come i'm going to tell you if there's anything that's keeping the lord if the lord has changed his mind about when he's coming it's all because he's wanting to give you one more chance he's wanting he's wanting to work on you just one more time which sometime we're disobedient when once the long-suffering of god waited in the days of noah while the ark was a preparing wherein few that his eight souls were saved by what what were they saved from judgment they were saved from judgment god said it repented me that i made men on the earth i will destroy man but then in the midst of judgment god gave a plan aren't you thankful that in the midst of judgment god has a plan folks judgment is coming to this world there is no way that our world can act and live the way it's living without our creator saying it's time to judge it's time to judge the light figure where in two eight shows were saved by what would you say that word with me water the like figure were unto even baptism doth also now save us not the putting away of the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience toward god by the resurrection of jesus christ who is gone into heaven and is on the right hand of god angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him we can't write baptism off we can't be flippant we can't have just a flippant attitude about baptism take it or leave it that would be like standing there saying in the ark you're saved out of the ark you're drowning in that vessel you can make it outside of that vessel you can't make it and my brothers and sisters this sunday morning i am here to tell you this is the reason we baptize in the name of jesus god chose a method god chose a method it is impossible to repent of your sins without being humbled you cannot repent of your sins and hold on to pride at the same time there's no way you can approach a holy god with your shoulders back and your head high after all i know i know i know terminology now that we use in in in our world it's just not right i accepted christ oh did you oh did you you accepted him he came walking in with head head hung low and and and and you finally accepted him come on folks we don't accept christ dear god he accepts us i'm glad that he would take a a a sinner like myself i didn't accept him i didn't put him through the checks and the balances he put me through them he said if you want to come into my heart son you better repent of your sins if you want to come into my art son you you you better you better repent you see it's impossible to embrace god and not be humbled it's impossible to embrace god and still hold pride leprosy has always been used in the bible leprosy has always been used in the bible to typify sin sin well there's a man in second kings chapter five in verse nine his name is naaman he's a great man he's a wealthy man he's a popular man but he's a man with leprosy he's a man that the death drums beat day after day somebody told naaman about a god that could heal him so here in second kings 5 and 9 so naaman came with his horses and with his chariot and stood at the door of the house of elisha and elisha sent a messenger unto him saying go wash in jordan seven times and thy flesh shall come again to thee and thou shalt be clean but naaman was wroth and went away and said behold i thought he will surely come out to me stand and call on the name of the lord his god strike his hand over the place and recover the leprosy he said i came expecting a ceremony i came i'm used to ceremonies i am i'm a captain i'm i'm used to all kinds of ceremonies going on and in my mind i wanted the cure of my leprosy but i wanted the cure of my leprosy coddled with ceremony uh yeah yeah i see him coming outside i see him striking his striking his hand over the place i see him calling upon the name of his god i see i see ceremony can i tell you that preconceived ideas of bible salvation will cause you to turn around cause you to turn around and he did he said in verse 12 he said is are not abanon aban and far par rivers of damascus better than all the waters of israel may i not wash in them and be clean and he turned and went away in a rage he said this is ridiculous i thought he would come out strike his hand over the leprosy i thought he would come out in a ceremony call on the name of his god and then he tells me to go wash in that narrow muddy unattractive river of jordan you understand that we've got rivers in damascus that are much more beautiful than that jordan river there see how he's comparing he begins to compare because your answer is not all in the h2o it's in the obedience to get in the h2o see naaman you're not getting it are you bud this thing isn't about ceremony and this thing this thing isn't about comparing water to water apple you know tomato tomato this thing is about obedience and the bible said in verse 13 and his servants came near and spake unto him and said my father if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing would thou not have done it how much rather then when he said to thee wash and be clean then went he down and dipped himself seven times in jordan according to the saying of the man of god and his flesh came again like into the flesh of a little child and he was clean and he returned to the man of god he and all his company and came and stood before him and said behold now and now i know there is no god in all the earth but in israel now therefore i pray they take a blessing of thy servant what was what was the change he comes with many gifts but when he didn't get his ceremony and he was thinking too much in the natural he turned away in a rage but when someone taught him a home bible study or maybe i called that a go on the back home bible study and said you know if it had been a hard thing he would ask you to do you'd have done it and finally it clicked he got off his chair it went down into the jordan river and became obedient dipped seven times and on the seventh time when he came up his skin was like a little child and he was totally cleansed and guess what attitude he had then he had the attitude i want to give back i want to give something that i have now going into the new testament now let me just give you a friendly reminder today that the new testament does not begin in the book of matthew the new testament does not begin in the book of mark luke or john the new testament begins in the book of acts now the reason we think matthew mark luke and john begin in the new testament is because that's where you find those four books in your bible but they belong in the old testament because matthew mark luke and john are still under the law now let me uh let's go to hebrews chapter 9 and verse number 8. hebrews chapter 9 verse number 8 the holy ghost is signifying that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest while as the first tabernacle was yet standing which was a figure for the time then present in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices that could not make him that did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience which stood only in meats and drinks and divers washings that were divers theirs mean many many washings and carnal ordinances imposed on them until the time of reformation so what he's saying here he's saying under the law was filled with a lot of symbolic things until they were fulfilled until the time of of reformation we were under the law we were under the works of the law then in galatians chapter 3 and verse number 23 this will help us we were under the law in galatians 3 23 but before faith came before faith came we were kept under the law shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed wherefore the law was our school master to bring us unto christ that we might be justified by faith but after that faith is come we are no longer under a schoolmaster for ye are all the children of god by faith in christ jesus for as many of you have had been baptized into christ have put on christ so listen to what paul's trying to say he's saying in the old testament was the law it was like a school teacher it was like a school teacher it was training us with diverse washings sheep for sacrifice goats all of these washings it's it's training our mind to get ready for faith to come and when faith comes the schoolmaster or the schoolteacher was just to bring us to christ i remember years ago sister kirby teaching the little ones teaching the little ones arithmetic she would use objects like like apples and oranges and she would use all kind of she'd take she would take five oranges and and say now how many oranges do we have and five and if i take three away how many and she was using well the same thing with the law it was taking objects of washing your hands and feet and sheep and all this and it was training our minds until the time would come when we would shift our attention from our works and we would shift our attention to the faith in the lord jesus christ his death burial and resurrection no longer do i have confidence in washing my hands and my feet no longer do i have confidence that i brought the best sheep that i brought the best lamb here now that was fulfilled on calvary now i am living by faith in the son of god who loved me and who gave himself for me i'm not living by works anymore i am living galatians 3 and 11 please galatians 3 11 but that no man is justified by the law in the sight of god it is evident for the just shall live by faith and the law is not of faith but the man that doeth them shall live in them christ hath redeemed us you know what redeem means don't you means to buy out of it means christ hath redeemed us he bought us out of christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a curse for us for it is written cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree look at this we deserve the curse we deserve damnation we deserve death but christ said let me teach you a little bit about faith let me teach you a little bit about washings and sheep and goats and the day will come that i will fulfill the law and i will become the curse that the law is looking for the law has found every human being and put them under the curse of death but praise be to our god 2000 years ago god came in the form of a man and god said i'll redeem them i'll take their place they belong on that cross they belong with the spit they belong with the pain they belong with the shame they belong with all of this but step aside kenny step aside joel step aside cole i'm going to take your place on that cross oh i think we ought to love him a little bit in the house come on i think we ought to love him a little bit in the house curse it is everyone that hangeth on a tree verse 14 that the blessing of abraham might come on the gentiles that's us through jesus christ that we might receive the promise of the spirit through faith that's why i say the new testament did not begin till pentecost because it was at pentecost that we received the spirit jesus mentioned water baptism in john chapter 3 verse number 3 jesus said it this way jesus answered and said unto him verily verily i say unto thee except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of god nicodemus saith unto him how can a man be mourned when he is old can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born jesus answered verily verily i say unto thee except a man be born of except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of god that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit of spirit marvel not that i said unto thee you must be born again jesus said that there would need to be a birth of water birth of water matter of fact some of the last words jesus spoke on this earth before he ascended into heaven dealt with water baptism matthew 28 19 jesus and jesus came and spake unto them saying all power is given unto me in heaven and earth go you therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost i'll come back to that in a moment mark chapter 16 verse 15 some of jesus last words and he said unto them go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned he did not say he that believeth is saved should be baptized he said he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved he that believeth not shall be damned luke 24 45 although luke does not deal and mention the word baptism he leaves a tremendous clue that he was referring to baptism verse 45 then he opened their understanding that they might understand the scripture jesus said unto them thus it is written and thus it behoove christ to suffer and to rise from the dead of the third day and that repentance and remission of sins and remission of sins repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations beginning at jerusalem matthew used it mark used it luke says the remission of sin should be preached no wonder on the day of pentecost in acts chapter 2 when peter preached the first message to the church and at the end of that message in acts chapter 2 verse number 37 at the end of the message now when they heard this the audience heard this they were pricked in their heart and said unto peter and to the rest of the apostles men and brethren what shall we do then peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ what did luke say luke said that in jerusalem repentance and remission of sins would be preached in his name repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ here's the importance here's the importance for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost can i tell you why we baptize in jesus name it is for the remission of repented sins the remission that's why people testify and say i was baptized several times but there was something different about the time i got baptized in the name of jesus i'll tell you what it is if you have faith that they act is for the remission of sins god of heaven honors it and all of that invisible ook and that you have connected to your soul god just begins to wash it away because you have been baptized for the remission of sins well brother carpenter i really came this morning hoping you would speak something relevant honey you can't get no more relevant than this sin is at the root of every marriage that's went astray sin is at the root of every child that won't serve god sin is at the root of every every financial issue any kind of hang-up you've got right now he was hung up for your hang-ups and if you'll understand in his name there is redemption in his name there is redemption we are baptized in the name of jesus we are not ashamed we are baptized in the name of jesus for the remission of our sins we believe that something miraculous and mysterious happens at the same time when we go down in the water in jesus name well i can't understand that you're living on an earth that at one time was in the water and the water was covered in but a god stepped out and god said let there be light and there was light and god said let there be and now we're a spinning we're a spinning earth well my teacher just took a break and my preacher kicked in amen amen i just got to make a few statements please write it down sprinkling isn't in the bible nor infant baptism baptism as an outward sign of inward faith is not taught in scripture sprinkling isn't in the bible baptism isn't in the bible there's a number of reasons those two are not in the bible number one an infant doesn't know to repent and number two the greek word sprinkling and baptism is two different things baptism means to plunge beneath to submerge that's why we are buried with christ that's why when we go to the grave we don't sprinkle somebody we bury them right because i've died and i don't need a sprinkling of dirt on me i need all six feet coming back on me and when i die out to my sins i don't need something just sprinkled on me out of the third century bring me something from the book of acts that book that's on fire oh cover me up you see man may remember what i stole man may remember what i'd done but i live my life to the faith of the son of god and god puts them in the sea let me cover this back up let me cover this back up sprinkling isn't in the bible or infant baptism is not in the bible baptism as an outward sign of inward faith is not taught is not taught in scripture repeating the words father son holy ghost is never found at one baptism and scripture it came a few hundred years later under false teachers trying to establish their own religion under the name of jesus christ and let me say this neither is a hybrid baptism i see hybrid hybrid baptisms taking place you know what a hybrid is don't you car runs on gas or electric but not at the same time when one don't work the other kicks in there's a hybrid baptism being taught today that i want to come against neither is a hybrid baptism of saying in the name of jesus christ and the father son holy ghost that's a hybrid baptism which one works well i know which one works know which one works but we're not going to baptize people to try to comfort and cuddle people that don't want to be offended if you're a bible believer if you believe your bible acts chapter 2 they baptized in jesus name acts chapter 8 they baptized in jesus name acts chapter 10 they baptized in jesus name acts chapter 19 they baptized in jesus name paul said to the apostolic church of galatia colossians he said whatever you do in word or deed do all in the name of jesus that's why we there's changes of undergarments up there there's hair dryers up there there's robes up there there's everything that you need to be baptized up there today in jesus name come on praise him right now i'm so glad that i've been buried in the name of the lord i'm so glad that i've been buried in the name of the lord oh yes god repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost well brother carpenter i know what i felt when i repented my brother that's good i know what i felt that night when i gave my heart to the lord well my brothers that that's that's good i wonder how paul felt i wonder how the apostle paul felt in acts chapter nine verse number four he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying saul saul why persecutest thou me and he said can i kind of say it like he probably said it who who art doubt look lord jesus taught from a little boy hero ears of the lord our god he's one who are you lord lord and the lord said i am jesus whom thou persecute us it is hard for thee to kick against the priests and he trembling and astonished said lord what will thou have me to do let me ask you a question is paul a believer is he a believer yes he is is he a believer has he had an experience yes yes yes he is a believer you don't ask what do you want me to do if you don't believe you have to do something what will you have me to do and the lord said unto him arise go into the city and it shall be told thee what they ought to do now in acts chapter 22 paul is given his testimony and in acts chapter 22 paul tells about the bright light knocked down and all of that but in acts 22 12 he's testifying and he says and one ananias a devout a devout man according to the law having a good report of all the jews which dwelt there came unto me and stood and said unto me brother saul received thy sight and the same hour i looked upon him now he's given his testimony let's look at it in order now he's been knocked off his beast by bright light he has asked the question who are you lord and the lord has said i am jesus he believes that the lord is jesus that's more than most people believe today in denominations he believes that the lord is jesus and then he says what would you have me do and he says you need to get up and go into the town and a man by the name of ananias is going to come in and lay his hands on you and you're going to receive your sight back and be and and be baptized but evidently in the midst of all that paul waited for whatever it was he was waiting on but then finally in acts 22 16 just a couple of verses later ananias has to say to him and now why carry us now the word terry means to wait he says what are you waiting on what are you waiting on arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins calling on the name of the lord did paul believe that jesus was the lord laying flight of his back on the damascus road yes is that all there is to salvation no would you think that a man that talked to god who are you lord i am jesus what do you want me to do do you think that man would need anything else added among people today he wouldn't they would just say he was saved the moment that he said who are you lord and the lord said i am jesus but there's more to salvation than just believing the death burial and resurrection is what jesus did for you being baptized in jesus name is what you do for yourself and unto the lord i wish somebody helped me worship him this morning don't delay when god shows you through his word acts 8 34. philip is preaching to a ethiopian eunuch in acts 8 34. and the eunuch answered philip and said i pray thee of whom speaketh the prophet this of himself or some other man then philip opened his mouth and began at the same scripture and preached unto him say it with me and preached unto him who'd he preach and as they went on their way they came to a certain water and the eunuch said see here is water what does hinder me to be baptized let's put our thinking caps on for a moment these people just want to fl float all over town and say we just need to preach jesus let's just preach jesus do you realize that philip did just sit there and say that eunuch jesus jesus jesus do you know that somewhere in that preaching of jesus he mentioned water baptism it wasn't philip when they rounded the corner and there was a big body of water it wasn't philip that said hey man right here's water it was the eunuch so common sense can oh lord i i hope that wasn't rude all of you got common sense you got more sense than i got but just let me tell you like it is it just ought to connect up here if he started at the scripture and preached jesus and was interrupted by the eunuch saying hey here's water what hindered me to be baptized somewhere in that dialogue philip said you've got to be baptized in the name of jesus christ in water for the remission of your sins and when they rounded that corner that old unit said why well right here is water come on worship the lord with me a little bit this morning he said what would hinder me and philip said if thou believe us that's the only thing that hinders you from be baptized if you don't believe it he said if thou believe us with all thine heart thou mayest and he answered and said i believe that jesus christ is the son of god and he commanded the chariot to stand still and they they went down both into the water both philip and the eunuch and he baptized him you see today there should be an urgency should be an urgency about being baptized once you understand that you need to be baptized you need to do it as soon as you can you need to do it as soon as you can you see that's why i don't know what it cost us by the year to keep the water warm 24 7. 24 7 we keep warm water ready 24 7 we have fresh towels and fresh garments and 24 7 that we're ready i don't know how much money that cost us a year and quite honestly i've never thought about it because the subject of baptism is essential to salvation you see i want to help you today some of you have started and i want to help you along the way how important was it in my final scripture reading paul and silas have been beaten more than likely they were beaten by the jailer they've been given stripes upon their back more than likely given by the jailer but at midnight at midnight that's late that's late midnight we got a time here now we got a time at midnight paul and silas prayed could preach this morning never too late to pray at midnight paul and silas prayed and the holy ghost hit that jailhouse busted all the locks off the doors even hit in such a way that their shackles their their stocks fell off their feet hit in such a way that the jailer who had got down for a good night's sleep was awakened thought that the prisoners had escaped then verse 29 of acts 16 the jailer called for a light and sprang in came trembling it's amazing how a move of god can change you from a prideful jailer to a trembling jailer he fell down before paul and silas brought them out and said sirs what must i do to be saved and they said believe on the lord jesus christ and thou shalt be saved and thine house and they spake unto him the word of the lord and to all that were in his house now i know some people stop right there that wasn't the end of the conversation with that jailer when he said how can i be saved and paul pointed him right to faith in jesus christ but not you just stop there he said he spake verse 32 and they spake unto him the word of the lord and to all that were in his house he spake unto him the word of the lord and he the jailer took them that same hour of the night it's after midnight and washed their stripes i can't help but see i can't help but see a a connection of repentance because repentance is trying to undo what you did i can see him taking that whip across paul's back taking that whip across silas and back y'all disturbing the peace around here but after he got convicted and paul preached to him the word he said let me get some warm water let me get a rag or two let me begin to wash your back let me begin i'm and i can see him such carpenter i can see the jailer as he's washing the stripes i can see him saying paul i'm sorry paul i'm sorry i did this silas i'm so sorry i did this see that's what true repentance is true repentance isn't sorry you got caught it's sorry you did what you did i'm so sorry so he had repentance and he took them the bible said and he took them the same hour of the night washed their stripes and was baptized he and his he in all he is straightway and when he had brought them into his house he sent me before them and rejoiced believing in god with all of his heart would you stand with me this morning why we baptized in jesus name is because it addresses the sin issue in our life sin is what fuels your guilt sin is what fuels it's what fuels the guilt of your soul sin is what causes you to to live in that dark dungeon of regret condemnation sin is what causes that deep bitter root oh you're sorry for what you did oh you wished a thousand times you would have never done it you can't hold your head up around certain people but i have come to tell you this morning that if you will submit your life to the word of god if you will submit your life today to the word of god that same god that found an earth in the water and out of the water that same god that found an earth empty and void and with darkness in its grip that same god will come down in the water and as you go under the water your sins are judged they're judged there's death there just like there was to those outside the ark but when you come up out of that water you're born again of the water your sins are removed you're now a prime candidate to be born again of the spirit would you pray all over this building with me this morning church family church family i need your fervent prayers with me today i believe there's men and women standing in this room right now that are tired of the sleepless nights they're tired of wondering am i right they're tired of somebody speak oh yes well let's put our hands together and thank god for three souls our brother sister reinhardt that's over our prison ministry in the aljc been holding fantastic revivals and crusades in prisons one of the prisons in florida they have they have a policy that if you come into prison and you're a muslim and you put down you're a muslim you cannot you cannot be baptized unless you put in that you want to change your religion and yesterday in that prison in florida was their baptism day and um four uh brother and sister reinhardt who are been qualified and everything they've got so much favor with prison uh the correctional centers but they flew all the way from dayton ohio to florida to baptize those four muslims yesterday they got baptized in jesus name a couple years ago they were having baptism day in a prison and i believe it was brother fry from sydney ohio was there he had 15 or 20 to baptize and so there's not just apostolic people there there's people there from every denomination and um brother fry started baptizing with roger fry started you know roger five brother fries from sydney started baptizing his people because they're all standing there all the inmates are out there waiting and brother uh fry when he baptized these inmates would come up shout and kick in water praising god and a nominal preacher that was about to go next he said hey why don't you just go ahead and baptize my 30. and he said well i'll baptize them but i'm going to baptize them in the name of jesus and for the remission of their sins you say you say why in the world would you fly across country to baptize four people i'll tell you if they had told me it's only one there to be baptized it would have been worth it it had been worth it now let me say to all of our guests that may be here today uh this message may have stirred you in your mind and maybe you're you're just not you you you're just not quite sure and that's okay all right that's cool that's okay but you need to study it out and when you're ready when you see it you see it clear because i can i can understand you want to get by yourself and do some reading yourself and that's fine but i want you to know that we are 24 7 baptismal pool here all right any time of the day or night is is anthony wilson in the building i know he's an usher uh anthony anthony wilson one of our ushers was at roger claiborne's one night about 11 o'clock on a saturday night and roger taught him a bible study and anthony said i need to be baptized and i need to be baptized now and he said ain't nobody gonna get out of bed at this time of the night he said my preacher will and i got up and drove over to where roger and anthony was at and uh i said uh let's go to church right now he said no he said i i promise you i'll be at church in the morning i promise you i'll be i'll be there in the morning i said all right you promise and you know he kept that promise and i'm gonna go ahead and and i don't think i'm gonna miss this by too many years but i think that's been well over 20 years ago that he's been serving god in this church so we're ready i don't know if we're still online or not but if
