Glory Glory Glory I'm gonna let you move to your seats but I want you to keep this Same Spirit of worship what a marvelous time we are having here on this Sunday the Lord's day here at First Apostolic church I add my voice to that of Pastor Whitley and Bishop McCool saying welcome to everyone I want to say we're so glad to have Chase and Christina and Peyton home with us from the great state of Georgia love you guys thank y'all for being with us and I also would add that I'm so uh happy beyond measure I'm just full and running over to have my family here my cousin Yolanda we've been at this a little while had me sweetheart we uh we used to go to camp meeting together in Pontiac Michigan before any of these other folks are even thought about and we had churches like we're having church tonight and so I it's good to have you here and all of your family we love you all dearly and I just have to say a special word about sister Natalie uh a lot of folks have desires to to minister and God calls them to do different things but God called her to to go to Australia now I promise y'all that's not next door uh Greyhound doesn't have buses going there uh I got close to Australia going to the Philippines and I was still a long way away uh and that took about 14 16 hours of flying but she didn't go for a week or two she went for three months because God had called her to go down there and minister and I honor you sweetheart I thank you for letting the Holy Ghost use you and you're going to see fruits from that that we don't know about yet there's going to be results and I'm thinking I love my family so much and I love all of our church family I some of you have been gone it's that uh vacation holiday season folks have been going to camp meetings where they're from and they've come back home and we're so glad to have everyone home and back in the house of the Lord with us tonight I want to go to the word of the Lord we've already had a mighty move but uh Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of the Lord not the word of Mark or cool but the word of the Lord and I'm awed by the opportunity to bring the word and I'm also quite awed by the challenge of even preaching a message after what brother Whitley preached this morning how he so mildly presented uh water and fire and the judgment and the salvation of both thank you Pastor Whitley for keeping us reminded consequently when we're reminded of the saving power of water that's why we start hearing and seeing folks receive the Holy Ghost folks getting baptized in Jesus name we already had a young man that came to us today wants to be baptized next week and we're excited about that that's why we're here that's why we're here I would call your attention tonight to the Book of Psalms the 92nd chapter The Book of Psalms the 92nd chapter I'm going to read four verses for right now beginning with verse number 12 Psalms 92. begin with verse number 12. the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree he shall grow like a Cedar of Lebanon those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God they shall still bring forth fruit in old age they shall be fat and flourishing to show that the Lord is upright he is my rock and there is no unrighteousness in him for just just a few moments I would take my title from verse 13 planted in the house of God planted in the house of God let's pray savior I love you God I'm so grateful for your spirit that has already been manifest in this house Lord for the work that you've already done now Lord let us receive your word this night Lord let it speak to us personally let it speak to us individually Lord let us be still and know that you are our God and Lord we thank you for this opportunity in Jesus name we pray amen and amen our text tells the psalmist uses a simile or similes plural I should say or comparisons of righteous people to the palm trees and to the cedar trees and not just any cedar trees but the Cedars in Lebanon the righteous is liked and unto the palm tree in its production it's compared to a cedar in Lebanon in Grove now that term righteous for our purposes tonight we would Define righteous as being just being honorable free from guilt or wrong upright now yes scripture does tell us that our righteousness or as filthy rags so this is not a message that would tell us that righteousness saves us but it is also a message that tells what being righteous will do for you in this present life God's people must be righteous people they must be just honorable free from guilt or wrong and upright we must be a righteous people and the scripture then Compares righteous people to the palm and to the cedar well it did a bit of a study the noted Bible commentator Clark said of this passage the figure of the palm tree gives us the idea of the Grandeur and usefulness the fruit of the palm tree makes a great part of the diet of the people of Arabia part of Persia and Upper Egypt the stones are ground down for the camels the leaves are made into baskets the hard bowels or rather strong leaves some being six or eight feet in length make fences the juice makes Eric which is a drink that's that's consumed there the threads of the web like intricuments between the leaves make ropes and the riggings for small vessels the wood serves for slider buildings and firewood in short the palm is a most excellent and useful Tree in production and is the most useful of the field every part of the poem affects the entire existence in this part of the country now for we here in the west we here in the United States when we think of palm trees we're usually thinking of the coast we're thinking of uh uh of a warm sunshine and beaches that's the places we mainly see palm trees but there we're talking about a place that is much desert we're talking about a place that is arid and dry with a very little substance but when you find the palm tree you suddenly find a tree that affects the entire civilization I cement to you righteous people we should affect the entire civilization righteous people should in some way somehow affect and improve the entire community I hate to think what Knoxville would be like without First Apostolic church and some righteous people we should affect everything around us we should improve the growth we should improve every part of our community we should be productive but then it also referred to The Cedars of Lebanon Clark went on to say the cedar gives us the idea of majesty stability durableness and and incorruptibility to these two trees for the most obvious reasons are the Righteous compared William Lithgow who traveled through the holy land about A.D 1600 described The Cedars of Mount Lebanon as being in number 24 growing after the manner of Oaks but a great deal taller straighter and thicker and the branch is growing so straight and interlocking as though they were kept by art and yet from the root to the top they bear no bowels they grow straight and upward like to a palm tree their Circle spread tops do kiss or embrace the lower clouds making their grander Overlook the highest bodies of all other aspiring trees the nature of this tree is that is always green yielding an odiferous smell and an excellent kind of fruit like apples but of a sweeter taste and more wholesome righteous people are apparently strong and enduring they are productive righteous people produce trees and they produce fruit from the trees they're not just looking good they're green all the time they produce fruit they're strong and you can depend on them being there that's why the psalmist would compare the righteous to the palm into the cedar conversely if you jump back just a little bit in Psalms 92 7 it says when the wicked spring as the grass and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish it is that they shall be destroyed forever now if you study this you would find that this is not yard grass that's being referred to the Bible scholars agree this was speaking more to what we call Plano weeds you can't depend on Weeds weeds won't grow in the bare spots you need them to they'll grow up where you don't want them and when you need them most they'll turn they'll turn brown and they'll Blow Away they will jump up and cause you problems if you got a nice flower bed weeds will get in your flower bed but if you've got a bare spot in your yard they won't dare try to grow there apparently comparing the wicked to a season Al plant if you will Hebrews mentioned that there's pleasure in sin for a season but those pleasures and Beauties due soon wither and fade away apparently the wicked cannot endure adversity the wicked at the bit of difficult circumstances do dry up and blow away but it didn't come tonight to try and present to you myself as a Botanical expert I do not have a green thumb if I try to plant plants my wife will attest they will die I have no abilities when it comes to planting anything in the natural but I did find out as we begin reading this that the simile the comparison to the Palm to the cedar to the grass finds much Merit when we start looking at the lives of the righteous and the unrighteous Proverbs 12 3 said a man shall not be established by wickedness but the root of the righteous shall not be moved there's a reason the choir gets up here and sings we will not be moved that's not talking about that we will not be emotional and moved in the spirit but it's saying we have already decided that we're not going to change we're not going to dry up and blow away we're not going to be as the weeds that when a little bit of adversity come in the first freeze happens that the turn brown and they blow away he said the righteous people you're going to be like the Palm you're going to be like the Cedar of Lebanon but you see there's something important that's established it said those that be planted in the house of the Lord it's important that we not only proclaim the palm and the cedar there's something that goes along with it there's the place where you are planted where will I put down my roots I ask you tonight where have you put your roots down oh we like to proclaim the Majesty of the Palm we like to proclaim the Evergreen Cedars of Lebanon but where are you growing for you see it's important Proverbs said the root of the righteous shall not be moved let me tell you Roots aren't pretty most to appreciate the beauty of plants are enamored by the stunning loveliness of the plant but not its roots oh we like shade we like blooms we like fruit but the appreciation for the roots is rarely realized you see I submit tonight that the most important part of growth in a plant is the root system and so it is with the righteous the most important thing that we can find is to find ourselves rooted in the house of God planted in the house of God that's where righteousness will flourish in the house of God if you think I'm just preaching about First Apostolic Church of Knoxville you've missed it by a mile I'm talking about the church the Jesus name Apostolic Holy Ghost Field message it may be in Australia it may be in Tennessee it may be in New York it may be in Florida but you need to be in the church you need to be planted and have your family planted in the house of God oh Hallelujah this is not about this building but it's about the church the people of God the righteous the Believers you see the psalmist said those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God he didn't say thou shalt they shall just barely get by and survive he said they'll flourish to flourish means to thrive to prosper to be in a state of activity or productivity let me speak for First Apostolic Church of Knoxville you folks are so active I can't keep up with everything you do there was a day when we were a smaller assembly that everybody went to everything now I'm not talking about church service there's no optional church services we need to be in every service so let me make that plan thank you settle down you don't have to run on that statement we don't have optional services for pick and choose you need to be in the house of the Lord but with that said you could come around here almost any time day or night and something is going on there's special interest groups there's uh this ministry in that Ministry now I I grant you sometimes it looks like folks are having fun while they're ministering oh preaching we can't do that oh we got to be travailing and and look I believe in prayer I believe in praying I believe in travailing before God but did you know serving God ought to be the most enjoyable life that there is there ought to be fun involved in it we ought to enjoy being with God's people [Applause] see I've quit preaching for some of you and started meddling already I'll see these young folks out here they'll be out here in the middle of this field dressed modestly sliding down water slides oh my God they ought to be praying and speaking with tongues that'll come that'll happen oh there's some of these kids they'll be out here in the gym hitting the volleyball shooting a basketball some of us holy ghosts feel adults have to get the Holy Ghost again when we watch them do it too but there's stuff going on all the time there's special interest groups Meeting those ladies over here Saturday I we've we've got our own uh Hispanic Church Pia they'll be ministering here they had a field full of of Souls kicking a soccer ball around oh preacher can't believe you ought to let them do that you know what he said I'll make you Fishers of Men there's a hook there but prayers there's a hook there we're finding a common interest it's not to make them soccer players it's the make them Jesus name Apostolic Holiness tongue talking righteous people that's what we're trying to do you see we're putting some Roots down we're placing some roots in the house of God we want folks in a state of activity or production flourish also means to reach a height of development or influence you apostolics you need to influence this community that's what we do there shouldn't be a waitress in this town that doesn't like to wait on an Apostolic they'll say well I want that table those folks they're so kind they're so nice they leave a tip Lord if you can't leave a tip leave an offering she needs it we need to put ourselves in the position of reaching Heights of development that this world can't reach it means to attain or be attaining a desired end you see we're not just rambling and running we've got a purpose when you flourish in the house of God we're trying to affect everything around us in short if you put your roots down in the house of God you'll flourish outside the house well again this is not by memory I tell you I'm not a Botanical expert so I had to study what's the function of the roots anyway what do the roots do they're leafless most usually all Underground but the reading I did gave four main functions of the roots if we're going to be planted in the house of God let me let me show you how we need to be planted number one it says that Roots provide absorption then number two said they provide aeration number three said they provide storage and number four they provide anchorage so let's talk about those four things for just a minute The Roots provide absorption that term simply means to take in and make part of one's being wherever you put your roots down it's what's going to be the essence of your being that's what you're going to be if we aren't careful we can put our Roots down in the wrong places the wrong influences and we start absorbing into our being the wrong thing do we see the wrong things we listen to the wrong things we we watch the wrong things we're around the wrong people and suddenly that becomes the essence of Who We Are you see scripture gave some warning about some places not to be rooted First Timothy 6 10 says For the Love of Money is the root of all evil which while some coveted after they have erred from the faith pierced themselves through with many arrows one can become so absorbed with your financial stability you can find get rich quick schemes job chasing Endeavors that exclude commitment and faithfulness and attendance to the house of God entertainment and recreational activities that are prioritized above the attendance of the house of God that'll become what you are if it's not important for you to be in the house of God it won't be important for your children to be in the house of God if it's not important for you to pay your tithe your children are going to be cursed with a curse because they're not going to know how to pay their tithe and they're somebody here this preacher you better be careful where you put your roots down put your roots down in the house of God absorb some things into your very being Hebrews 12 15 said looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God lest any root of bitterness bring up trouble you and thereby many be defiled let some relatively minor disagreement keep you out of the house of God one's personal offense with one person cause you to stay out of the house of God and quit being in his house and pull your roots up out of the house of God I'm going to set home with my bottom lip stuck out because somebody offended me you see some will change their entire lifestyle over an offense not realizing the multiple Generations that they're about to affect their kids their grandbabies they've got their feelings hurt they don't realize that on down the road they got a grand baby that's going to need to have been absorbing what was in the church but because they got their feelings hurt they've stood around alone and they've suddenly aired from the faith I'm amazed at those that can't go to church with someone that hurt their feelings but they will shop at Walmart with them they can cheer for the same team send their kids to the same school oh but preacher those things are essential so is your salvation your salvation is more important than your little feelings that got hurt by one or two individuals let the enemy group the whole church with it somebody hear this preaching tonight if you hadn't heard me preach anything else get over it get over it get over it you've got too much to gain and also too much to lose put your roots down in the house of God don't let anything separate you from the fellowship no money could buy what we've already experienced in this house tonight no because [Applause] nothing can replace what the spirit of God has done there's been healings take place in this house tonight sometimes we always think of healing is some physical ailment God's healed some things tonight that testimony will come in the future I'm here to tell you I speak a word of knowledge to people tonight God's been healing some things and confirming some things to you in this house tonight oh if I could plant myself in the house of God and start absorbing the things man there'll be guest speakers and guest preachers there will be special events we'll have marriage or treats to minister to our married couples we have we'll have a camp meeting for our kids we'll send our kids off to to Youth Camp we're going to host camp meeting beginning Wednesday week you need to be here absorb what's going on oh oh preacher I've been to all that stuff before I've heard it all preached no you haven't oh I've read it all listen you can't read it and replace what an anointed man or woman of God speaks into people's life when the Holy Ghost starts ministering the same scripture that you read with with black ink on white paper will suddenly come alive and start ministering to you in a way and you'll start absorbing some things that will keep you that will keep your family if we're planted in the house of God we absorb into our very being the house of God becomes my essence in my being act said it this way in Acts 17 27 that we should seek the Lord happily we might feel after him and find him though he be not far from every one of us for in him we live and move and have our being we have our Essence as certain also of your own points have said for we are also his offspring listen if we're rooted in the church we become the offsprings we become the branches we become the fruit we become those things that's the very essence of what we've absorbed but it goes on in my definition of roots or what they do it said Roots provide aeration or they Supply or impregnate with air I've heard some folks say oh I eat sleep and breathe fill in the blank man I eat sleeping breathe hunting playing golf watching football antiquing working playing fishing none of those things are sinful in and of themselves but if that's what you're breathing if that's all you're breathing if that's above your commitment to almighty God you suddenly have made something an idol that shouldn't be let me tell you I want to eat sleep and breathe the work of God I want it to be in my fiber in my being I want it to permeate everything I want the Breath of God to be in me let it be said that we at First Apostolic Church the righteous uh that are rooted in the house of God we eat sleep and breathe the work of God then it said Roots provide storage which in this instance means to provide especially for a future need to lay away to accumulate to place or leave in a safe location for preservation or future use Matthew said it this way Matthew 6 19 you know the scripture lay not up for yourselves Treasures upon the Earth where moth and rusteth corrupt and we're thieves break through and steal but lay up for yourself Treasures in Heaven what kind of investment are you making when you sacrifice for your family and future generations to stay in the house of God there's people in this house tonight who you decided a long time ago to put your family and root your family in the church and the secular World frankly thought you were a little bit Goofy you mean you're going to turn down that job you mean you're going to turn down that opportunity just because you want to keep your family in church you better know I do oh but did you know your son he he's going to be a starter but you're not going to be able to go to church very much because of practice your daughter oh she's going to be a beauty queen but you can't be at church on the weekends because you're gonna have to travel here and you're gonna have to travel I know folks in this church who have already made that concerted effort say my roots are down in the house of God there's nothing going to keep us from being in the kingdom of God there's nothing going to separate us oh I hope you can feel my heart tonight this is not a message about building are local attendees this is about being in the house of God for it's not the bricks in the mortar the carpet or the shingles it's the people of God it's the commitment to the kingdom of God and prioritizing some things he said for where your treasure is there where your heart be also where's your heart where have you planted God knows the Investments and sacrifices many of you have made for your family to be in this house there's some of you who wanted your children in a Christian School you've made sacrifices financially for them to be here that will not go back void God will rewards look it's a long-term investment yep I I get to looking up here and and I don't want to use the word pride but it it was is with Godly satisfaction okay that I see multiple years of graduates connected to Apostolic Christian School some of this Bunch was on with a capital on and a capital Ray when they were in school it would have been really easy to write that Bunch off say Amen tell their parents to put them someplace else listen there's a special place in heaven for Apostolic Christian School instructors and teachers they've done a special thing and there's more of you I see your faces you you haven't worked as an employee but you volunteered your time and given of yourself your abilities you'd rather been home watching Gunsmoke rather than taking kids on a bus trip I really dated myself then didn't I but let me tell you God is going to reward the faithfulness of those who've put the roots down they said I'm going to have my family if I've got to sacrifice this if I've got to sacrifice that I may have to do without this but I'm going to have my my family in the house of God God knows the Investments the sacrifices that have been made it will not come bad void it's a long-term investment and frankly you can't help it along you know if you if you plant a garden the first time you see a little green stick its head out I promise you it don't work if you go help it and we'll pull it up just a little so it'll be taller because that that tender plant is just establishing some Roots just let it grow it may not be as tall as the next Plant it you may not be seeing a lot of growth just keep watering just just keep it planted where it is don't try to help it along just just pray for it let God do some work keep your children in the house of God well she hadn't moved by all means Keeper in the house of God he hadn't done anything yet keep him in the house of God let the Holy Ghost keep moving let them keep absorbing let them keep saying what's going on it's in God's time God's going to do work God's going to use them in his kingdom Malachi said bring you all the time in the storehouse that there may be meat in my house prove me now here with saith the Lord of hosts if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive now we use this and rightfully so as a giving scripture but it's also a sacrificing scripture when we tithe of our time when we tithe of our commitment when we give of ourselves for our family to be rooted in the house of God there's a proving that saith the Lord put the Lord to the test proving your faithfulness he said I will rebuke the Devourer for your sake the enemy is a Devourer and some mistakenly limit this passage of scripture to thinking it's addressing just monetary increase so if I'll pay my tithe oh I'm going to get this great big windfall you know the windfall you make it is you may not have to pay any bail bondsman to get your kids out of jail you may not be paying absorbent lawyers fees for criminal attorneys you see some of us Heaven alone will only give the full rewards and the benefits of giving of ourselves and investing in our families I will rebuke the Devourer for your sakes he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground neither shall your Vine cast your fruit before the time in the field set the Lord of hosts and All Nations shall call you blessed and ye shall be Delights in land saith the Lord of hosts make sure you're putting your Roots down in the house of God and the fourth and Final attribute of roots is they provide anchorage to fix in a place or in a desired position stability if you're not anchored in the house of God you will easily be blown over in the storm Ephesians 4 said it this way that we henceforth be no more children tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of Doctrine by the slide of men and cunning craftiness whereby they lie and wait to deceive but speaking the truth and love may grow up into him in all things which is the head even Christ when you keep your roots in the house of God every new thing that comes along deceiving look folks we're living in a world of deception deception is more prevalent than it has ever been before I dare say if I took a survey there would be few in this house that even this last week you didn't receive either a Spam call or spam email let me tell y'all I turned 64. I didn't know that they gave all 64 year olds telephone numbers out to the whole world did you know in just a few months that you can do this with click I and I grew up in that generation in school they actually taught phone etiquette now that that didn't mean you're supposed to not use your phone at the table there were no phones at the table back then they we had these things that had wires on them curly wires and you were taught to when you called someone greet them tell them who you are and if somebody called you by accident you you were taught to say I'm sorry you have the wrong number nowadays your phone your cell phone will ring and if you pause just a month here whoop and here comes the spiel and most times it's deception it's trying to deceive you into getting into your pocketbook they will they won't they want money from you and if that doesn't happen they want you to open an email or a text if you'll just click on this you're going to get the greatest thing you can get a new Chevrolet for 14.95 you know it's just it's insane just send us your credit card number wink wink we're going to take care of you they're going to take care of you all right let me tell you if we're living in a world of deception that that's that bad how much more is the enemy looking for new ways to deceive you and if you're not rooted in the house of God everything will jump up here you'll go chasing it every new doctor man that sounds good you know I I believe that ought to work oh but when you put your roots down in the house of God there's a spiritual perception that you suddenly have every wind of Doctrine and the sleight of hand of men uh the cunning craftiness the best way to identify false Doctrine is to know the truth it's just that simple we heard a man of God preach truth to us today we heard a man of God preach the Salvation message the message of Grace the message of water baptism in Jesus name then filling of the Holy Ghost being baptized with Holy Ghost and Fire we heard it preaching just if you know that then when some little wind of Doctrine blows through and starts influencing this and influencing that a few smoking mirrors a dog and pony show a little bit of crafting and she'll say oh no we will not be moved I put my roots down in the house of God I put my roots down in the truth of who Jesus is praise team musicians get ready I'm anchored I'm in a fixed place Galatians said at this simply but the way or an angel from heaven man it doesn't matter if they've got Halos and wings if they come in and they start preaching a new doctrine now the new doctrine is anything that replaces the gospel of Christ The Salvation message the healing message the saving message the simplicity of salvation of repentance water baptism in Jesus name infilling the Holy Ghost evidence was speaking with tongues living a holy Godly life if someone comes in it doesn't matter how Angelic their presentation it matters not how they might appear to the remainder of the majority it said if they preach any other gospel unto you then that which we have preached unto you let him be accursed as we saith before so say I now again if any man preach any other gospel unto you then that ye have received let him be a curse the Salvation message has not and will not change he is the same yesterday today and forever Hallelujah stand with me we heard it preach this morning we're saved by water he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved much of the denominal world's got that back backwards they actually plea preach apparently he that believeth and is saved shall be baptized but that's not the order he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved he that believeth not shall be damned Jeremiah said it this way blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord and whose hope the Lord is for he shall be as a tree planted by the waters a tree planted By the Waters you see in the Middle East those Palms are by many times what we call an oasis there's water so there's a root system reaching toward the water for he shall be as a tree planted By the Waters that spread without her Roots by the river and shall not see then when heat cometh let it get hot the palm and the cedar is going to stand strong the righteous shall remain but her leaves shall be green and shall not be careful in the year of drought neither shall see cease from yielding fruit our original text even tells of a good retirement plan the original text said they shall still bring forth fruit in old age boy I'm glad to know that Bible's starting to talk about me now then it really gets serious it says they shall be fat and flourishing what a retirement plan I'm thankful that scripture is not referring to my physical attributes but it's telling me I'm going to have plenty I'm going to be identified not by my personal wealth but I'm going to find the satisfaction in knowing that I put my roots down that my family's in the house of God my grandbabies are going to be in the house of God as long as God tarries I've tried to do my part and I know I'm speaking for all in this house I'm putting my roots down I'm keeping my family in the house of God they shall still bring forth fruit in old age they shall be fat and flourishing to show that the Lord is upright he is my rock there is no unrighteousness in him I wonder tonight if there's anyone in this house that wants to make the proclamation before God that here in the house of God not this been in the walk with God I'm determining this is where I'm putting my ribs down I'm gonna follow him I'm not going to be tempted by or blown away man seen some of that video like you have of hurricanes blowing through I've seen some of those palm trees they'll they'll Flex [Music] but after the storm's over there may be a lot of stuff that's been blown down and Blown Away those palm trees they'll stand back up they may be battered a little bit listen I'm not guaranteeing us that we're not going to go through some storms but I'm telling you if you put your ropes down you're going to survive the storm there may be folks in the sound of my voice tonight you're going through a terrible storm I don't know what it is but God knows but let me tell you put your roots down in the house God keep your roots here stay rooted grounded in the house of God I read you one more passage of scripture then family in Heaven and Earth is named that he would Grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with the might by his spirit in the Inner Man that Christ May dwell in your hearts by faith that ye be rooted and grounded in love may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and the length and the depth and the height and to know the love of Christ passive knowledge that you might be filled with the force of God if you want to be filled with the fullness of God I ask you to step out from where you are come around this Altar for a season of prayer saying
