I feel like I'm stepped into a powder keg and somebody already left the pews Hallelujah there's an explosion taking place in this house the pound the Holy Ghost is delivering the power of the Holy Ghost is moving you ought to just go ahead and get what you need right now you ought to just go just go ahead and receive in Jesus name call on that name call on that mighty name glory glory glory glory to the Lamb of God well praise the Lord Glory I'm gonna let you start moving to your seats but we're not sitting down on the presence of the Lord we're just going to continue on what a mighty presence of the Holy Ghost is in this house I give honor to the Saints of First Apostolic Church the Saints of the most high God I'm gonna let you be seated if you can but don't get too attached to that posture all right I want to take just a moment to say to all the saints this is not a fishing Expedition for the month is nearly over but I just want to say how much I love the Saints of the best Church in the whole world First Apostolic Church of Knoxville give yourselves a great big hand this month someone somewhere along the line designated as Mr appreciation month well you have several pastors and I want you to know I have never and my family has never felt more appreciated and loved than this church family always shows us throughout the month I've received cards I've received mementos and and gifts and uh just special words of of appreciation and let me say how much I do appreciate every saint of God and I appreciate your faithfulness and your kindness to our family the the Pastoral staff and I do I do say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart it's I can think of no place that I'd rather be in no church family I'd rather be a part of than the church family of First Apostolic Church of Knoxville I love you dearly I want to take us to the word tonight and uh I am just still feasting on the message we heard this morning I'm glad that dragons can be beaten I'm I'm glad glad to know I'm with a bunch of dragon Killers brother Whitley what Mighty word incredible thank you so much and I I'm hoping that I have something to say that will augment and add to what God has already placed in our hearts and direction for this day and for this evening particular calling your attention to the Book of Matthew the eighth chapter Matthew the 8th chapter we'll read a few verses beginning at verse number five Matthew eight beginning with verse number five and when Jesus was entered into Capernaum there came unto him as Centurion beseeching him and saying Lord my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy grievously tormented and Jesus said unto him I will come and heal him and the Centurion answered and said Lord I'm not worthy that thou should come under my roof but speak the word only would you help me would you say that speak the word say it again speak the word and my servant shall be healed find a man under Authority having soldiers under me and I say unto this man go and he goeth into another comedy cometh and to my servant do this and he'd do with it when Jesus heard it he marveled and he said to them that followed verily I say unto you I have not found so great faith no not in Israel for a few moments tonight I would bring that statement to your mind speak the word speak the word let's pray savior I love you God I'm grateful for your Mighty word and for the power that's in your word I thank you for the power that's in your name that we have experienced just mentioning your name and I pray right now that your word would give us Insight would give us direction would give us strength we'd give us encouragement but most of all it would be the word that leads us to Salvation we thank you for this opportunity in the name of Jesus we pray a man and amen the events depicted in Matthew 8. beginning with verse 5 illustrates the great power of God's spoken word notice this was Jesus manifest in flesh this was God manifest in flesh and the Centurion that he was speaking to with humility and faith asked him for healing to take place and when he asked for the healing Jesus said I will go in healing and I promise you the Centurion wasn't asking for virtual healing just send your word you know we're we're into all of that stuff and being virtual now but he said with humility he said I'm not even worthy for you to come and be under my house now think about this if you study a little bit about a Roman Centurion for again in this time frame Rome was the ruling governmental body and a Roman Centurion that word Centurion literally means over or in charge of with authority over 100 men so he was at least a commander of a hundred men or soldiers and if you study more about this many Bible scholars will tell you that it was likely he was quite wealthy because of his military prowess and his leadership he was likely a Centurion of centurions he there was multiple layers of authority that he represented in fact when he talked to Jesus when he said I am a man of authority many scholars believe that if you look at some of the original interpretations that he was saying I am a man of authority like you are he recognized the authority of Jesus many also would even tell you that very likely he had been converted to Judaism and was uh very uh careful not to be offensive to the Jews some even surmise that he had used his own finances to build the very synagogue that Jesus had taught in so he was very sympathetic to the cause of the Jews but when there was a need for a healing he recognized the authority of the word of the Lord so strongly that he said you don't even have to come he said just send or speak your word only and the scripture says that Jesus marveled in other words Jesus was astonished in his flesh at the faith of the Centurion I'm Amazed at even in a world that is so doubt-filled in a world that we live in that has so many who Proclaim that they do not believe they're atheists or their agnostics they have great doubt when it comes to the spoken word of the Lord even they without realizing do give it respect the word of the Lord when spoken immediately merits reverence and Authority in the world of public speaking nowadays I find great irony in speeches given at secular commencements and in political scenes they love to quote passages of scripture you notice it they will quote passages of scripture many times verbatim yet they will fail to give proper recognition to the writer or the author they appear to intentionally avoid stating that they are quoting the Bible yet they want to use its wisdom and its authority to validate their own presentation these are the same voices who will actively speak out to protect the rights and rules of intellectual property in other fields in fact if you took some of their classes they would fail you if you did not footnote and cite your sources properly yet they want to quote the Bible and never give credit where it came from why they are the results of how our political education our public education system has been politicized and how many politicians are sometimes committing the ultimate plagiarism if you will they understand that our public education in many ways has been spiritually emasculated and is afraid of God in any form our political realm in the name of political correctness and hellish intimidation is afraid to give credit where credit is due but I'm here to tell you the word of the Lord is powerful the word of the Lord represents Authority the word of the Lord is something that is more powerful than anything else you can quote [Applause] why would these learned speakers feel free to quote from a Banned Book at a graduation anyway because the word of God even when not properly acknowledged as a source carries Authority wisdom and power but I would take you to the word to realize that David of old for one recognized quickly the power in God's word in Psalms 138 1 said I will praise thee with my whole heart before the gods with the little G will I Sing Praises unto thee I will worship toward the Holy Temple and praise thy name for thy loving kindness and for thy truth notice this we've been singing just a few minutes ago at the mention of his name we know how powerful the name of Jesus is but David went on to say for thou Hast magnified Thy word above thine name was he diminishing the power of the name no he was just exalting how important it is to know the word and have the word in your heart and have the authority and the power and the wisdom of the word to magnify means to make larger we should make the word of God large in our lives we can quote a lot of stuff if we're a sports fan we can quote a lot of statistics but do you have the word in your heart how strong is the word if you're into Finance you can quote all s that those little lines go across the TV that sometimes they're green when they're up and they're red when they're down and some folks really know what that stuff means and oh it has great economic power but do you know the power of the word inside you do you know the power of the spoken word the Centurion said just speak the word and my servant is going to be healed there's some things we're needing to speak out in the word today by faith but I'm here to tell you you can't speak the word and you can't use the word unless you first know the word well how do I get to know the words real easy know the word by osmosis if you put it on top of your head you're not going to get it if you lay it on your coffee table it may look like a great decoration and impress folks when they come into your house but you're not going to get any word as long as it's just laying on your coffee table you can buy the finest Bible and it can be bound in calf skin or alligator but until you do what II Timothy 2 15 said it said study to show thyself approved unto God a Workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of Truth to know the word we must study the word read the word love the word notice it said rightly dividing there are a lot of examples of folks who wrongly divide the word let me give you a couple of a bit comical if they weren't so serious I heard of a preacher who objected to women wearing their hair up so he wanted a scripture to back it up so he went to Matthew 24 17. do you see can y'all put that up there for me Matthew 24 17. he read it like this he didn't read let him which is on the housetop he stopped in the middle of house and he said top not come down pop not come down you ladies don't need to have your hair up that was where he preached it I got news for you he was not rightly dividing the word of Truth he had an agenda look out for folks who take the Bible and try to fill a Personal Agenda to get their own thoughts across what does the book say what's the intentions you need to study because if you don't study somebody will tell you something and you'll buy into it huh put me another one up there Matthew 14 27 have you got that one fellow wanted to make sure everybody knew it was okay to fight he read it this way but sweat straight away Jesus spaking them saying be of good cheer hit his eye you'll get that in a minute they divide the truth make sure you really know what the word says the Bible doesn't say you can get salvation between the Saddles stare up in the ground don't let folks quote you scriptures that aren't there know the word for yourself get in and study the book be don't take my word for it take his word for it make sure follow me up make sure I'm in the book when I preach follow Bishop up when he's teaching Bible follow pastor and Pastor up when they're preaching make sure you know the book foreign Story Goes that two men were arguing about their knowledge of scripture they said you don't know the Bible he said yes I do know the Bible he said I bet you don't even know the Lord's Prayer he said I'll take that man said what do you mean it said ten dollars if you can quote The Lord's Prayer God said all right show me your money he got his money laid it on the table and the guy said now lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep if I should die before I wake I pray the Lord like my soul to take the guy reached on the table hand him daughter said I didn't think you could do it you better know the word you better have it in your heart don't don't find yourself buying into stuff you know what the rest of that passage said it said steady to show myself for prove unto God a Workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth but shun profane and vain babblings for they will increase unto more ungodliness that term profane means to treat something sacred with contempt to desecrate not holy because one is unconsecrated and impure or defiled the word vain means of no real value idle worthless babblings to utter meaningless sounds to talk foolishly or excessively sounds a lot like Instagram Facebook oh I know I have really stepped on some toes now be careful of those time eaters that you start and you find yourself so interested in before long you've spent an hour of seeing Yorkies bark and roll in the floor alligators sneaking up in people's backyard [Music] the occasional amazing athletic play and somebody losing their temper in a grocery store you know what I'm talking about if you aren't careful you'll find yourself feasting your mind all the time on vain babblings things that are of no real value for you see in the world we live nothing is sacred anymore the church house is not sacred anymore that's why we have to keep an alarm system on our church there was a day we can leave the doors open so somebody could come in and pray at any time now if you open the doors you can't keep a sound system or a musical instrument in the building because we're living in a generation that the word and the house of God is Not sacred anymore some of us can sit down and read a novel of no real value yet we cannot find time to read the book our priorities have become skewed let me say again I heard brother Whitley say this a long while ago he said get hooked on the book I want to get hooked on the book I want to find time to read the word of God let me talk to all the preachers in the house just a minute did you know if we aren't careful as preachers I am one I can talk about us if we aren't careful as preachers the only time we will read the word is when we're looking for a message I this I as many of y'all don't lie I used to direct the choir around here a little bit and I became aware that unconsciously when I would listen to music I would listen to choirs sing and I would listen to gospel music and I reached a point at one time that I couldn't listen to music good wholesome gospel music unless I was looking for repertoire to sing in church and I realized I wasn't even enjoying the music I was just looking for another song and there's times I had to say no I don't care because I'd be thinking about some of you folks that's you know I'd start listening songs you know Sister so-and-so could sing that solo better than the one that did it I that brother so and so he could play that man and I found myself not enjoying the music I hope you understand what I'm saying and if we aren't careful as Ministers of God we will find ourselves reading the Bible and every time we're reading it rather than it ministering to us we're looking for something always to tell somebody else let me tell you yeah you need to study to show yourself a proof but sometimes I need to read the book to talk to McCool I don't need to get a message for anybody else because it's trying to talk to me the word of the Lord is trying to get into my heart and get into my being and help me after we know the word we should learn to properly use the word I'm a preacher of the Gospel the good news I get the authority to preach and to teach from the word of God when Jesus returned to his hometown in Nazareth you can read about it when he went to the synagogue over in Luke the Bible says he opened the book and he found the place where it was written Jesus wanted the authority of the word even when he taught in the synagogue let me tell you again I'll speak to the preachers primarily I'm not a lawyer I'm not a psychologist I'm not a professional marriage counselor I'm not an arbitrator and I am not a referee if you want to fight with somebody don't call me I'm a preacher of the Gospel don't look for consultation don't look for a counseling session from me or any other of our pastoral staff unless you want scriptural-based advice I'm not going to psychoanalyze you I'm not going to give you Financial advice unless you're a tithepayer and an offering Giver that's the only reference I've got no I know that sounds so harsh but somebody hear me too many times we're not looking for the word of God to minister to us we're looking for somebody to tell us what we want to us want to hear so we'll feel better about it remember God's words call The Holy Bible it's holy it's anointed I want to make sure I'm into anointed scripture for you see the word serves many purposes I did a little search about the different comparisons of the word in Psalms 107 20 it says he sent his word and healed and delivered them from their destructions God's word is healing and delivering if you let it work in your life in First Peter 2 2 1 it says wherefore laying aside all malice and all godlin hypocrisies and envies and all evil speakings as newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby the word will provide spiritual nourishment for a new convert milk's primary purpose is a concentrated nourishment for infants but did you know as we mature if the word needs to God's word can also become beef steak First Corinthians 3 1 Peter was talking to the church and y'all need to get off the milk you need to grow up you need some a little tougher word he said and I Brethren could not speak unto you as unto spiritual but that's under carnal even as in the babes in Christ I have fed you with milk and not with meat for hitherto you are not able to Bear it neither yet nor are you able he said you need to grow up sometimes we need a little more than the word telling us how good we are sometimes the word has to provide some nourishment that it takes a little chewing on if you will it takes a little bit of I I've got to chew that up a little bit man there's a little more to that than a little bit of milk sometimes the bishop he'll cut loose to telling us some things in our Bible study by the way did you know you need to be in Bible study [Applause] I said you need to be in Bible study I'm pointing everybody in the house yeah I know we have a lot a lot of things going on we have classes going here listen if you're not teaching a class don't you hang out in the lobby get in the house of God you need the word you need the word you haven't matured enough you haven't matured enough you need some beef steak you you need some meat and potatoes of the word and bible study don't hang out in the lobby don't hang out in the parking lot don't get here late well ain't nobody going to appreciate the pastor after this the word can refresh Ephesians 5 25 said husbands love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of Water by the word let me tell you the word of God will clean up your marriage the word of God will get your attention and give you proper direction when you get away from the word is when you start getting the dirty and nasty of sin covering you and violating you and you know what else the word can become the word can become a Looking Glass that's what we call a mirror James 1 22 said but be ye doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own selves it's one thing saying that's good word good word good work are you doing it right am I doing it he said be doers of the word and not hears only for If any man be a hearer of the word and not a doer he is like unto a man behold of his natural face in a glass for he beholdeth himself and goeth his way and straightway forgiveth what manner of man he was but whosoever looketh into the perfect law of Liberty and continue therein he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of that work this man shall be blessed indeed what that really means is the word will cause us to self-examine ourselves man there's a lot of handsome fellas around here I wish I could look at them and say man that's what I look like but that don't work I have to look in the mirror and see my cool every morning see what my cool looks like the word will make you examine yourself and it's like we need the word Psalms 119 105 said Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light into my pathway who knows that we're living in a dark dark world right now we need direction like never before out of the darkness of sin you better hear me think this political if you may but I must say what I feel like the Lord will have me say I'm not talking about in some European country I'm not talking about some supposed left-leaning state in the United States here in our own State the state of Tennessee our so-called medical experts have been physically and chemically altering children's bodies in the name of identifying as you want to identify if I want to identify with a different gender listen children don't know what they want to identify think the kids fault it's some goofy adults faults you leave it up to a child they want to be a fireman one day and a space astronaut the next we need some folks that will train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it I don't buy into the darkness that the enemy is spreading I need the word to start lighting my path and showing Direction hear me in this house if we don't stand up and light the way there's a dark dark world that's closing in on the church it wants our kids it's wanting to destroy our way of life Hallelujah Ephesians said it this way Ephesians 6 17 and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God Hebrews 4 12 says for the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword it didn't say it wasn't two-edged sword it said it's sharper than a two-edged sword piercing even to the divided and thunder of Soul and Spirit the joints and moral and is notices a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart listen you may have the whole world food you make and fool me you making fool your the brothers and sisters around you but the Holy Ghost and the word working through the Holy Ghost knows what your thoughts are it knows what your heart's thinking what your real desires are about the word will reveal it you see when it said sharper than a two-edged sword some of us all automatically think that it's just about fighting an instrument of War but a an instrument that's sharper than a two-edged sword in the hands as a scalpel of a skilled surgeon can carefully cut and bring healing but in the spiritual a sharp word sometimes divides asunder some of the things you know both of my grandpas all of my uncles my dad y'all well y'all all know my uncle Gary enough said they all carry pocket knives I grew up in a day that it wasn't against the law to take a pocket knife to school because it wasn't a weapon it was a tool it was an instrument it was never thought of something that you'd pull on somebody but a a skilled person with a pocket knife man I've seen them they they can peel an apple they can cut the insulation back from an electrical wire uh in fact I have a treasure that I I just I I treasure it so much I have brother Morgan's fathers knife a Schrade sheath knife I have it and when he gave that to me you know what he said he said be careful it's Sharp in fact when he said that it reminded me that my uncle's my grandfathers that's the one thing they'd say you say can I borrow your knife and say be careful it's Sharp it didn't matter if it was a case double X an Old Timer a kissing crane a Gerber or a Victor Knox Swiss Army they said be careful it's sharp well you know nowadays you know what's become popular I'll confess before you again you know you want to always be prepared they have stuff now they call it EDC that stands for everyday carry every day care I'll confess I'm right here in the pulpit and I've got my EDC now what that is I've got a flashlight right here that I can if it gets dark I can shine a lot I I've got a I've got a space pen isn't that awesome they say you can ride upside down now why you'd want to ride upside down I don't know but but I've got a pen I can I can write some things down I can shine some what but then I've got I've got a Swiss Army knife I I'm going I'm gonna open it but I gotta be careful because it's Sharp keep it sharp it's important a a Dull Knife will get you cut in a hurry and it's got all kind of things on it but they call that your EDC your everyday carry let me tell you some of us need to get some EDC in our lives spiritually we depend on the knowledge of man we depend on the philosophies of those who are non-spiritual we depend on the advice of folks that don't have a clue what the word says we need to get the word down in our heart and be carrying it with us every day it needs to be speaking to us it needs to be speaking through us I find so many times not bragging on me because I'm nothing special but there are so many situations that will arise in a secular day that a scripture will come to mind that'll help me deal with that situation something on in my flesh get me a little upset and that scripture starts saying a soft answer turneth away Wrath you see if you'll get the word in your heart it may save your life you may find yourself not being quiet as controversial and not quite as confrontational if you let the word start using you and realize that everybody you deal with is a soul you've got an opportunity everybody you talk to to minister to them you can Minister them with the grace of the word let me hasten toward a close in Jeremiah 20 you can read the whole Passage but he said it was fire the word was fire but in Jeremiah 23 29 it said is not my word like as a fire saith the Lord and like a hammer that breaketh rocks into pieces let me tell you the word of God will either fire you up or Crush you to powder you make the choice knowing the word hearing the word will do this it will build your faith Romans said so then Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of the Lord the word makes us better I say again we must hear the word we need to be in Bible study we need to be an Evangelistic Services we need to be in camp meetings and conferences we need to be in faith-building teaching sessions we need to hear revelatory teaching why because that makes us perfect think about this just a minute Ephesians 4 11. and 12. is where we find what many refer to commonly as the five-fold Ministry said he gave some Apostles and some prophets some evangelists some pastors and teachers for what for the perfecting of the Saints now how did they perfect the Saints they perfected the Saints by bringing the word to the Saints we can read about the accomplishments and exploits of the Apostles we can read in the word of the Lord what the prophets prophesied and foretold for then and for now but we also need to be in those Evangelistic service where an anointed man of God presents the gospel the good news with a special directed Outreach an appeal to the loss that's evangelist we have evangelists sometimes they'll come and preach and there's a special appeal they appeal to certain folk and we're trying to win the Lost but whether you like it or not you need preachers as well you need the familiar voice of an Under Shepherd to preach to exhort to counsel yes and sometimes even rebuke sin and you also sutures who instruct and appeal to spiritual intellect and logic in our Humanity all of the of the perfecting of the Saints through the word of the Lord musicians come quickly if you are going to know the word and use the word and have faith that hearing the word brings I submit the way you do all this is you must know Jesus because here's what John said and the Word was made flesh and dwelt Among Us you see Jesus is the word the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory the glory as of the only begotten the father full of grace and truth we must continue in the word John went on to Saint John 8 31 then said Jesus unto those Jews which believed on him if you continue in my word you see a lot of folks think that salvation begins and ends with the acts the second chapter I've got news for you it only begins in Acts 2 38. because if you read on it says and with many other words he said save yourself from this untoward generation you see it's the beginning when you understand repentance water baptism in Jesus name being filled the Holy Ghost but you need the many other words to keep you would you stand with me John 15 7 said if you abide in me and my words abide in you here's the benefit ye shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you I guess it was Homeland Security and the TSA that came up with the phrase if you see something say something well tonight I'd like to say if you need something say something if you're in this house tonight and you need something you need to speak some word you need the authority of the word you need God's word to be sent after all what did the choir sing this morning they sang about those dry bones and there's one part of that song I just love it I mean the screens were lit up and it said live dry bones do what hear the word of the Lord live Dry Bones hear the word of the Lord that song is recounting his Ezekiel the prophecy that came forth when he had that vision and said can this valley of dry bones live and he said oh Dry Bones hear the word of the Lord let me tell you there's folks under the sound of my voice tonight that you need to resurrect some things that seem to be dead in your life we must have the faith of the Centurion that was in our original text to say just send your word to this situation send your word to this situation have you got a broken marriage you need to Proclaim in Jesus name my marriage is going to be healed have you been living a backslidden life you need to Proclaim in Jesus name I'm turning around I'm going the other you need to Proclaim some things you need to speak some things out if you have had it made a catastrophic mistake in your life if you've made a mistaken judgment it's time to speak out and say Lord I'm sorry I'm Standing on the Promises of your word you're a forgiving God quote some book let the word go forth if you've had divisions of a broken relationship or friendship send some word after it if you've got a guilty conscience send some word after it here's what I'd like for us to do tonight I know not your need and it's not a matter of whether I know it or not but if you have a need in your life whatever it is I want us in just a few moments I'm going to invite everyone to step out and make your way around the altar and I'm going to ask for nobody in the house to come listening to what anybody else says but I want you in some verbal manner to start speaking out what you need from the Lord and claiming the authority of the word of the Lord over that situation now this is not some mumbo jumbo that I'm trying to fool you into doing anything I on it just to be that simple if there's a need in your life instead of just thinking about it tonight I want you to speak some word and then put Jesus over that need I want you to say Jesus I want you to deal with this in my life Jesus I want you to heal that in my life I want us to come proclaiming his word to be sent to every situation would you folks get ready to sing and I want to invite everybody to step out right now would you come you're not to listen to anybody else you you need to speak out what you need whatever it is and would you make your need known and then say Jesus send your word send your word be as the Centurion be that Jesus Will Marvel at your faith this is what I need this is what I need in Jesus name Hallelujah that's right that's right speak it out right now Hallelujah [Music] [Music] are you afraid to say it are you afraid to say it Jesus wants to hear that name the Centurion said I've got a servant that needs healing send your word I've got a need tonight Jesus he said your word I've got a need tonight Jesus send your hand really see Sarah send your powers [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] say the words [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] again [Music] right now come on right now [Applause] [Music] Jesus [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] speak the world [Music] all the way [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] in Jesus name [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] everything can
