moments Bishop M gave you several uh special requests but I would also ask the church family I would like for you to be in special prayer for first Apostolic Church of Sanford North Carolina uh Pastor George acres and also uh Pastor David Acres who Pastors in Butner North Carolina the acres are friends of this church family they preach for US minister to us and revivals camp meetings uh conferences marriage Retreats the Acres have blessed us and uh their mother uh sister Connie Acres mother Acres 83 years old went on to be with the Lord uh this past week and uh we're praying for strength for that church family and comfort uh this is a a time always to lose a mother and they the whole church family called her mother acres and you'd have to understand why because uh uh brother George Acres the pastor his father Bishop G Acres went on to be with the Lord some 36 years ago and brother the George became the pastor and his mother assumed the role of that uh when his wife became the first lady of the church uh sister uh Connie Acres became the mother of the church and she was known as that and she certainly did that very thing she mothered the church and in fact she was a mama to anybody that would come around Sanford North Carolina and we're praying for for comfort for that church family uh they've asked me to help uh with the uh funeral services uh for sister acres and so ask for your prayers for sister Jamie and myself as we journey that way but we'll be praying for that church family as well that God would give them strength I'm excited to get into the word of the Lord today how about you I I'm excited what the Lord would have for us hallelujah I do give highest honor to our Bishop and sister mcole to all of our pastoral staff our ministerial staff our elders all of the workers of First Apostolic church thank you for your faithful service in the kingdom of God and to the Saints of this assembly I give you highest honor as well thank you for your faithfulness in doing a work in the kingdom of God I'd let you keep your seats but I hope that your attention would be to what the word has for us this morning in the Book of Luke the 10th chapter I would ask ask you to turn there or uh uh swipe there if you're using a device uh I want us to read in the Book of Luke the 10th chapter we're going to begin reading at verse number 38 Luke 10 beginning at verse 38 now it came to pass as they went this was speaking of the disciples that he speaking of Jesus entered a certain Village and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house notice that Martha received him into her house and she had a sister called Mary which also sat at jesus' feet and heard his words but Martha was cumbered about much serving and came to him and said Lord Dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone bid her therefore that she help me and Jesus answered and said unto her Martha Martha Thou Art careful and troubled about many things but one thing is needful and Mary has chosen that good part which shall not be taken away from her for a few moments today I would draw a title for this message from verse 41 I would title this message careful and troubled careful and troubled let's pray savior we love you God I'm so grateful for this Wonder con wonderful Congregation of believers who have joined us for all of our guests who've come from different parts of the country to be with us in service today Lord I thank you for them Lord I Thank you for every ear and every heart that's here to receive your word now God I pray that you would Minister mightily to us through your word not of my lips or my voice but of your anointing God I pray if there's a person in here who has not yet repented of their sins if there's not if there's one who has not yet been baptized in your precious name the name of Jesus there's not there's one who's not yet been filled with the Holy Ghost savior I pray pray that your convicting hand and your delivering hand would touch their lives today for all this we're grateful and thankful in Jesus name we pray amen and amen careful and troubled one of the most difficult attitudes to deal with is an attitude of I don't care about anything when one approaches life's challenges with an I don't care attitude very little prod productivity or positive accomplishments will be present let me give you some examples have you ever been served by an I don't care waiter or server have you ever been in a place of business that was managed by an I don't care manager have you ever approached a c customer service representative who did not care to take the time to listen to your concerns have you ever called a customer service hotline only to find multiple phone prompts that appear to redirect you to an endless Maze of possibilities none of which seem to care about finding a resolution to your problems don't anybody shout and dance now in your mind contrast these examples that I've given you with an efficient waiter or server who Waits on your table a manager of a place of business who seems to and acts in a manner that they genuinely care about the service provided in their place of business a customer service representative that's a can do person person that may say I don't know but I'll find out and we'll work this out a call that you make that a real person answers and tries to answer your question contrast that in your mind with an I don't care attitude already most of us probably have indelibly in our memory examples of both and we have already a good or bad thought of business loyalty simply because someone did or did not care let me say we as the Church of God in general and First Apostolic Church of Knoxville specifically also bear a a responsibility and are not exempt from developing an I don't care attitude from greeters to ushers texts to teachers musicians to maintenance workers and by all means preachers and pastors we bear our great responsibility to never approach what we do for God with an ie don't care attitude you see we do care our goal is I said our goal is if we ever develop an I don't care attitude let's just get through the day let's just get through the service let's just get through and get by we will not accomplish what God has called us to do whatever you're called to do take advantage of it to give it your best effort with care and concern people a never a a statement has never been made that carries more truth than the statement that says people don't care how much you know unless they know how much you care we must never become unconcerned aloof detached disinterested apathetic or indifferent to doing the work of God being unconcerned suggest a lack of sensitivity or a regard for other needs of other people I read an article here a while back that was entitled why you shouldn't be why you rather why you should be careful with an I don't care attitude and an excerpt from that article States I quote this attitude can actually be helpful if it motivates you to keep trying where other people have failed however this attitude can arise out of pure stubbornness and laziness end quote it's important to actually care to know the truth and properly look into our own consciouses before we adopt an I don't care attitude toward everything in fact Jesus gave an example of an I don't care attitude in John 10:11 Jesus said I'm the Good Shepherd the Good Shepherd giveth his life for the Sheep he cares about the Sheep but he that is a hirling and not the shepherd who's own the sheep or not seeth the wolf coming and leave the sheep and fleeth and the Wolf catcheth them and scattereth the Sheep the hirling fleeth because he is an hirling and carth not for the Sheep the hirling has a I don't care attitude I'm looking for a paycheck I'm not looking to be efficient in what I was hired to do Jesus said I'm the Good Shepherd and know my sheep and have known of mine the hirling when he sees a little trouble and adversity coming he says feet don't fail me now I'm out of here here comes the wolf so obviously an I don't care attitude will not make us successful in the kingdom of God but with all of that stated that's not what I came to preach about today for let me transition to the other side of the carrying coin I'd like like to address something called caring too much with two o's in our text we find Martha an example of the ultimate host and server today she likely would have been diagnosed as being OCD she's obsessive compulsive her house her meal preparation her atmosphere presentation her expect expectations had to be perfect she's an apparent perfectionist understand she likely was the one who invited Jesus into her home in the first place if you read the scripture she's the one who gave the invitation and she has a sister Mary who apparently is less interested in a perfect presentation and more interested in living in the moment so in a moment of frustration Martha of all things barks at Jesus she said Lord Dost thou not care have you got a no care attitude I don't care attitude my sister has left me to serve alone bid her therefore that she help me she infers that Jesus has an I don't care attitude she even tries to tell Jesus what to do can you imagine Jesus tell her to come help me but I want you to notice Jesus answer it's it was likely now look when you preach about Mary and Martha if you think je that Jesus rebuked Martha you can preach it that way but I perceived that Jesus statement to her was not a statement of rebuke but instead it was a statement of Cal he said Martha Martha Thou Art careful and troubled about many things he said take a step back take a deep breath Martha I can perceive and I know in your spirit you are so caring you are so careful about everything that you're finding yourself troubled inordinately in your life I do not for one moment believe that Jesus was rebuking Martha for her service instead I perceive he's calming her down from caring too much understand Mary and Martha were sisters I'm confident this was not the first time they had entertained a house guest it was not their first time serving serving a meal that they had prepared had there been conflict over household responsibilities I'm confident that siblings would have already settled it and it would have already come to a head this was an unusual situation it's not every day that Jesus comes to your house it's not every day that something like this inordinate takes place in the house but they had two different personalities now hear me I'm preaching to somebody in the house today I may not be preaching the Salvation message of repentance water baptism in jesus' name and the infilling of the Holy Ghost but I'm talking to somebody in the house today that you have been caring so much that you've been troubled about some stuff inordinately Jesus was not telling Martha you should not serve nor was it even saying Mary Mary in ordinary circumstances shouldn't do hard part and help but Jesus was dealing with a specific moment a very unusual situation and he said Martha right now you're Perfection you care too much and it's troubling you said Mary has chosen this good part and it's not going to be taken away you need to zoom back take a deep breath and realize the moment there are some of us who because of issues at work issues in our families issues even doing the work of God have found ourselves caring so much to the point that we have become troubled in our entire life I'm preaching to somebody today one's mind one's sleep one's diet one's Health one's quality of life can be affected by a troubled mind inordinate fear anxiety dread in one Minds can affect every facet of your life some of you right now saying preacher make up your mind you started out warning me against having a don't I don't care attitude now you're telling me I care too much I'm telling you I'm not here riding the fence today but me we must learn to stay in the middle of the road in our emotions because there are ditches on both sides of the road you can find yourself not caring and you can also find yourself so troubled about every little thing that you cannot function and do what God's called you to do Jesus didn't say Mary stop serving or rather Martha stop serving serving he said stop inordinately worrying about some stuff that you're cumbered with that's what the Bible used the Bible said she was cumbered with her serving that that term cumbered defined means large or heavy therefore difficult to use or carry she invited Jesus but she had allowed the details the worries of this particular point in time to wait her down that she was not even able to function and she was lashing out and Mary because Mary said you know we normally serve but you know this is Jesus in the house I want to sit at his feet and hear what he has to say was Martha not supposed to serve of course not but she needed to lay some of her worry aside they use that term care and careful the term care simply defined as serious attention or consideration applied to doing something correctly or to avoid damage or risk an object of concern or attention to feel concern or interest a attached importance to something but the term troubled means showing distress and anxiety give life's challenge is proper care but stop stressing about [Music] stuff oh but brother M I can't help it I'm a fixer let me tell somebody in the house today this is no great spiritual Revelation but you better hear me there are some things that can't be fixed and worrying about it sure won't fix it if you can't turn it over to Jesus your worried mind will not fix it you're in I'm preaching to somebody in this house today you've been allowing the enemy to trouble your mind about stuff that you can't fix with worrying that you need to turn over to Jesus Oh Hallelujah give life's challenge is proper care but stop stressing about some stuff that does not help worry and inordinate anxiety will not fix it you see Jesus understood the weight of the cares and concerns of life when Jesus gave the parable of the swer who went forth to se seed he said some fell on Rocky or Stony ground some fell on ground that had not been broken and he said some fell among Thorns if you go over into Matthew the 13th chapter he then interprets what all of this stuff meant he said I'm going to now tell you what I was talking about when I mentioned the sewer and the seed in the parable he said when anyone Hearth the word of the kingdom and understandeth it not then come the wicked one and catch away that which was sown in his heart the seed being the word being sowed this is he which receives seed by the wayside verse 20 he said but he that received the seed into Stony places the same is that he that heareth the word and on with joy receiveth yet hath he not root in himself but endureth for a while for when tribulation or persecution rise because of the word by and by he's offended there will be those who will hear the word but it never goes into the soil of their heart and as soon as a little tribulation comes they blame it on the word they get offended and the seed and the substance of the word can't come up in their hearts but then in verse 22 he said this he also that receives seed among the Thorns is he that Hearth the word and the cares of this world the deceitfulness of riches choke the word and he becometh unfruitful think about the cares of the he cares too much he's got the word he's got the the truth but the cares of this world start choking out what the word's trying to accomplish in your heart if we aren't careful we'll let the cares and the things of this world we care about them more than letting the word spring forth and prosper in our hearts and suddenly the cares of the world the deceitfulness of riches worried so much about finances or more likely worried so much about the lack of finances we'll find ourselves inordinately concerned and feel like I do not have time to do what the word of the Lord's telling me to do I've got to make another bck I've got to take care of all the cares of this world but he that receiveth seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word and understand it which also beareth fruit and bring it forth some 100 some 60 some 30 he's warning against receiving the word of God and it being choked out because of the cares of life and the deceitfulness of riches if anything is important in our lives and it's so important that it takes precedence over God's word in our life it's become too important if anything in my life life is so important that I can't obey God's word it's become too important Paul said it this way to the Corinthians he said I keep my body or My Flesh and bring it into subjection L's that by any means when I have preached to others I myself should be a Castaway he said preachers can get too tied up and even doing the work of God and they can become a Castaway he was a minister he was an APLE but he said I have to keep my flesh under subjection L while I tell everybody else what they ought to do in the kingdom of God I myself can be a cast away all who hear me everyone under the sound of my voice please know the danger of caring too much about the cares of Life do not care too much about things can't fix Luke said it this way this is Jesus words verily I say unto you this generation shall not pass away till all be fulfilled Heaven and Earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away and take heed to yourselves he said listen Jesus is speaking he said take heed to yourself listen everybody L at any time your heart be overcharged now an overcharged heart that means you're overcome with worry grief don't let your heart be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and cares of this life and so that day come upon you unaware for as a snare shall it come upon all that dwell on the face of the whole earth he mentioned surfing drunkenness and the cares of life that term surfeiting if you look that up you'll that means cause to desire no more of something as a result of having consumed or done it to excess now you can find things in your life that you will do to excess that will hinder you from doing the work for the Lord man there's nothing wrong with fishing in fact what's that old saying you can give a man a fish and he can eat for a day you can teach a man to fish and he'll buy a bass boat and Miss Sunday school something like that nothing wrong with fishing but if you do it to excess it can hinder you from working in the kingdom of God I I have a confession to make about surfeiting doing something to excess many years ago as a child there was a special treat my mom would would make sweet treats with ice cream and stuff like that and she would buy those cans of Whi topping that had that little spout on it that you you push to the side you go some of y'all remember that don't you I'm really telling my age now and I really like that whip topping when Mama would put that whip topping on top of the ice cream it was just it was it topped everything off mom and dad went on a hospital call and I got to stay home one day and I had come to the conclusion if a little bit of that was good A lot of that would be outstanding so I got me a glass the largest one I could find and I went just as full almost empti the canid and the first few bites were wonderful and about halfway down it started being a little too sweet but I felt an obligation since I'd poured it all out I need to finish it all up surfeiting to excess all I can tell you till this day when I order a banana split I say please no whip topping I got enough I hadn't needed anymore ever since it made all those crazy feelings in your neck and I don't need to go into any more detail surfeiting he said take heed lest at any time your heart church with surfeiting things that you would do to excess with drunkenness obviously we know what that means when it comes to alcohol but some folks get drunk on the things of the world and the attitudes of the world and the fads and the things that seem so pop they become enamored with so many things it don't matter who the latest pop star is some folks have to sell out I got to have the T-shirt I got to be at the concert and the cares of Life overcharged heart he said Heaven and Earth shall pass away but my word shall not pass away some of us find oursel inordinately worrying because we watch too much Fox News and CNN man I've preached all on everything else I may as well go there too we find ourselves troubled by by the talking heads and the political pundits we're worried that this one's going to get elected and that one's going to get elected and all this is going to happen let me tell you God still in control God is still large and in charge you quit need to quit worrying about some of those things that you can't fix do what you can and what you want to but stop worrying God's got this God's in [Applause] charge if you look at that that same passage it says in Luke 21:34 in the NIV be careful of your heart will be weighed down it talks about with the anxiety of life and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap verse 36 says watch ye therefore and pray always that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the son of man here's the the formula he said watch in other words be vigilant keep your eyes open don't walk around with your eyes closed you'll run into something be vigilant Watch and Pray talk to God often every day you need to talk to God don't let it be now I lay me down to sleep prayer or good morning thank you I'm awake but talk to him during the day say Jesus I love you Jesus I need your help I'm dealing with this situation God take the worry away I'm going to deal with it like you would have me to deal with it Hallelujah he said watch pray that you may be accounted worthy or be accountable we need to stay accountable so that we may be able to escape in anything and that includes false accusation Matthew 6:31 said therefore take no thought saying what shall we eat what shall we drink or wherewith All Shall we be clothed for all these things do the Gentiles seek for your heavenly father knoweth that ye have need of all things he knows but seek ye first the kingdom of God get your priorities straight seek you first the kingdom of God and his righteousness not your righteousness his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you let me tell you that stuff that's been troubling you that stuff that's been worrying you if you'll seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness first he's going to take care of it he's going to fight your battle he's going to protect you oh Hallelujah I'm talking to somebody today you've been worrying about stuff too much you're needing to bring it to Jesus and say Lord I'm leaving it there I'm G to put it behind me he said take there for no thought of the marrow for the marrow shall take thought for it things of itself quit worrying about what's going to happen tomorrow quit worrying about tomorrow's headlines quit worrying about the future he's got this God's got it Paul had to confess about cares Paul went through a lot of stuff oh synopsize rather than reading it all but in 2 Corinthians the 11th chapter he says the Jews he said they they whipped me with 40 Stripes save one five times he's talking about his past some of us we still worried about our past he said Thrice three times said I was beaten with rods he I was stoned once man they weren't throwing left-handed cigarettes at him either that was rocks they went after him he said I was in Journeys often in Peril in the waters in Peril with robbers I mean I've been in storms I've been in Shipwrecked I've been robbed my own countrymen attack me in perils by heathens in perils in the city and perils in the wilderness city or county I had trouble boy Paul had a lot to worry about in perils among false Brethren did you know sometime somebody's going to lie on you that's right if they do you're no better than Paul he said I had to deal with perils among false Brethren he said in weariness painfulness watching often hunger and thirst and fasting often in cold and nakedness he what a laundry list of stuff Paul had had to worry with and worry about but then Paul prioritizes notice what Paul said besides all of that stuff he said beside those things that are without that's which cometh upon me daily the care of all the churches he said compared to all that stuff I've been worried about the churches the care I I cared about the churches it's been beating down on me he said who is weak am I not weak you know David one time made the statement when he had lost joab in a horrible underhanded murder among his own people David lamented the loss joab and said his hands weren't bound his feet weren't tied and as he prayed David made this state statement he said I'm weak though anointed king king of Israel sometimes even when you're anointed if you aren't careful the cares of life will weaken you hear me preachers teachers ministers in the kingdom of God you'll find yourself in a weakened State even though you're anointed of God don't let the worries weit you down he said who is weak and I'm not weak with a question mark who is offended and I burn not he said but I must need Glory I will glory of the things which concern my infirmities Paul admitted the cares of the church were weighing him down but he refused to let those infirmities take him down he said I'm going to glory and what's been going on you see let me even take a moment to address some of the Young Folks let me tell you first of all all of us boy I better not when I classify us I could get in real trouble I'd say all we mature folks who' been around a while sometimes we can look at young folks and issues that they have and think well you don't really know what trouble is like and we forget what it was like to be a young single person and go through the worries and anxieties that young folks have had we we can find ourselves thinking that we're the only people ever had a problem did you know Young Folks single young folks their problems at their seasoned life are real to them young married folks and their the infancy of their marriage the problems they're having them are real to them and we need to consider one another to care about each other right uh there's a great example found in 1 Corinthians the 7th chapter the Apostle Paul again preaching or teaching the Corinthians talked about your priorities changing notice this 1 Corinthians 732 but I would have you without carefulness he that is unmarried carth for the things that belongeth to the Lord how he may please the Lord but he that is married carth for the things that are of the world how he may please his wife there is difference also between wife and a virgin the unmarried woman carth for the things of the Lord that she may be holy both in body and in spirit but she that is married carry for the things of the world but how she may please her husband and this I speak for your own profit not that I may cast a snare upon you but for that which is comely that you may tend upon the Lord without distractions now let me take this home and and put it where we live are we okay are you all right I I realize I'm not spitting and sweating and you're not running the aisles but I I hope you'll hear what the Lord's trying to tell us today about caring too much your priorities will change through your lifetime brother Jerry Wilson I hope you don't mind me using you Elder as a an example I remember as a young teenage boy man we'd have we had church at 10:00 and then we didn't have church until 7:30 and during football season bunch of us Young Bucks well we're going to meet up with the church and we're going to play football from 2: to 4 and then we're going to be back for church nothing wrong with that we have and I remember him asking brother Jerry Wilson brother Jerry Wilson was a young married then had two little girls because he had played ball with us before but somebody said brother Wilson you mean you're not going to come out and play ball on Sunday he said I'm a married man now he said I can't afford to get hurt I'm working a job I didn't understand that back then I do now cuz if I rolled an ankle or broke an arm I was looking after me let me tell you young folks your priorities will change you're working a good job and you want to make sure that you get the latest pair of Jordans when they come out more power to you spend your money but there's going to be day that you're going to decide that groceries are more important than Jordans it's going to happen and for all you married folk that think you got everything together there's also going to be a day when diapers are going to be more important than golf clubs and green fees too that's right and for all you folks that hadn't got grandbabies yet you're going to spend it all on them Someday I'm just going to tell you it's going to [Applause] happen priorities will change and we must be careful not to allow the cares of life to stop us in different phases of Our Lives from serving God the Apostle Paul was making a distinction that the single Folk we're going to have more time to do certain things in the kingdom of God that don't mean you stop working for God but you start working in different capacities throughout your life there's going to be commitments that you're going to have to balance and not have is this making sense to anybody I hope the word speaking to somebody [Applause] today in fact I'll say it this way let me draw to a close so praise team and musicians I I'll pray for you that you can come up with something appropriate to sing after such a message so we ask ourselves all this questions how can I care properly without having an I don't care attitude or caring too much well I can give you what the word says to Elders leaders the experienced in 1 Peter 5 one it says the Elder Elders which are among you I exhort whom am also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed feed the flock do what you're called to do which is among you taking oversight thereof leaders should have oversight but not constrain but willingly you're not going to do what you do for the Lord because you have to it's because you want to not for filthy ler a paycheck is not your first priority but of a ready mind what God's prepared for you neither as being Lords over God's Heritage but being examples to the flock I pause for leaders now pastors preachers teachers neither as being Lords over God's Heritage look out for spiritual leaders who try to become Lords over the the flock yes listen your pastor is your servant I'm not your lord your leadership or your servants we're not your lord we try to preach what thus sayith the Lord but when any man or any group of individuals get together and try to Lord over people they're out of God's line of authority that's right how should leaders lead leaders should lead by example I'm not trying to put myself up as being any great thing but I hope my life I hope my family's life will be an example that's pleasing to God as those who are serving God as servants in the kingdom of God not trying to put up any kind of HS or any kind of lordship of humanity what goes on to say when the chief Shepherd shall appear Jesus is coming back ye shall receive a Crown of Glory that fadeth not away likewise you younger submit yourselves unto the Elder y all of you be subject one to another and be clothed with humility oh God let me not have a I don't care Spirit but let me have a spirit of humility for God resisteth the proud giveth grace to the humble humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you in due time and verse seven gives the answer casting all your cares upon Him for he carth for you give your cares to the one who cares for you man can't fix it only God can fix it throw those those cares throw those anxieties throw those troubles toward Jesus he wants to take care of it NIV said cast your anxiety on him because he cares for you stand with me Ephesians said this wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God be completely equipped that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand worry about it having done all to stand set up nights and ring your hands having done all to stand let your health wither away from anxiety he said have done all to stand when you've done all you can do stand take a stand in your life I've done all I can do now Jesus I'm casting my cares on you Thessalonians said therefore Stand Fast that doesn't mean how quick you stand it means how strong you stand and how long you stand therefore Brethren Stand Fast hold the Traditions which you have been taught whether by word or by epistle go back to the word when you got troubles when you got trials when you got tests go back to the word the Traditions let those things that have ministered before let them come back into your heart and my last scripture someone said thank the Lord Jesus said in John 14:27 peace I leave with you my peace I give unto you not as the world giveth give I unto you let not your heart be troubled neither Let It Be Afraid would you hear the words of Jesus today if your peace has been Disturbed if the cares and the Troubles of Life have been waiting you down today I give you Jesus who cares for you he cares about your issues he cares about your problems he said don't let your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid I'm going to open the altar in just a moment some of you your first fear is to take the first step to come and say God I'm I need your help I'm tired of dealing with this on my own I'm here to tell you if you'll step out by faith to say Jesus I got some stuff I'm needing to deal with and I know that you're the only who can fix it but I got to give it to you if you'll step out today and make your way to an altar God wants to meet your need don't care about anybody else but care about what Jesus has got for you come a little bit selfish today to get your cares met would you step out and let him take care of your cares if you've got worries if you got anxieties the Healer of every situation the master of every situation is here to bring peace he wants to leave his peace with you Hallelujah
