I want to take you to the word of the Lord this morning passage of scripture that would be familiar to us all I'm gonna let you stay in your seats at this time but that's not a command for the entire service I want us to be worshipers today calling your attention to the Book of Judges the seventh chapter begin reading at verse number one Judges 7 beginning reading in verse number one then jerubel who is Gideon and all the people that were with him rose up early and pitched beside the well of Herod so that the host of the midianites were on the north side of them by the hill of moray in the valley and the Lord said unto Gideon the people that are with thee are too many for me to give the midianites into their hands lest Israel Vault themselves against me saying my own hand hath saved me now therefore go to Proclaim in the ears of the people saying whosoever is fearful and Afraid let him return and depart early from Mount Gilead and their return of the people 20 and 2000 and there remained ten thousand for a few moments this morning I would speak to you on this subject addition by subtraction addition by subtraction let's pray savior I love you I'm grateful to be in your house and I thank you for another opportunity that we have again you have given us and we've been afforded to be in your presence Lord I Thank you for the praise and worship that's gone up led by Praise Team our choir but Lord propagated to all the saints here the hands that have been lifted the voices that have been raised God please receive our worship today but Lord now would you minister to our hearts through your words not of my voice and not of any abilities that I have for their few but God let your Mighty word touch our hearts Lord just let us receive all that you would have from us in the name of Jesus we pray amen and amen addition by subtraction the passage of scripture that I read in your hearing in Judges 7 depicts the events just prior to God delivering his people from a seven year bondage to Midian if we go back and I won't read it all but we'll do a little reviewing overview if you would let me do so tell you what you'll find in chapter 6 that led us up to this point first of all the reason Israel was in bondage for seven years in the first place was they had become evil rebellious and had turned to Baal worship you see when you find yourself turning away from God it will not bring freedom it will bring bondage if you take the time to read the entire passage of judges 6. you'll find in verses 1 through 10 that God had allowed this bondage to take place and you'll find that his people now are hiding in dens hiding in the mountains they're hiding in caves and strongholds that they feel they can defend but they're not free you see living evil living rebellious does not bring freedom it brings bondage and you do a lot of hiding I promise you you'll be hiding a lot of things and you'll live in hiding from a lot of things when you're evil and rebellious against God Israel would plant crops they would sow their fields only to have the midianites and the amalekites steal their Harvest and destroy all their substance they would kill their sheep their oxen their asses I promise you when you live in Rebellion the world will eat up your substance as well and the enemy had invaded them scripture uses the analogy like grasshoppers and in the midst of their impoverished situation it took seven years for them to realize maybe we're not doing something right we're going to call on the Lord and say we need some help here God we we don't want to exist like this any longer sometimes some of us would look down our nose and say why did it take them seven years some of us have spent a half a lifetime rebelling rebelling against what God has called us to do so God when they begin to Christ sent a prophet and the prophet reminded them that he God had delivered this people once from Egypt but their Disobedience have brought them back into bondage I would also say this past victories or of little comforter when you're living a disobedient life in bondage oh it's good to look back at the memories of Victories of the past but I want to live in the right now free doing what God would have me do so is again we give this overview of Judges six an angel appeared unto Gideon and this angel is trying to convince a reluctant leader that he has the opportunity and the responsibility to lead God's people to victory over the midianites in fact if you read in judges 6 12 it says the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said in him the Lord is with thee thou Mighty Man of Valor now I don't know about y'all but if an angel shows up and appears before me and says God's with you and you're a man of Valor I would believe an angel I just believe I would but Gideon begin arguing with an angel can you imagine Gideon said to him oh my Lord if the Lord be with us then why is all this befall in US can you imagine he's skeptical at a representative of God himself who's given him a message where be all his miracles which our father told us about my daddy told me about Egypt but where's all this Deliverance stuff now did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt but now the Lord hath forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the midianites sometimes it can feel that way sometimes another generation hear me sometimes another generation can look back on the fond memories of the past you can hear the stories told of what happened in revivals in camp meetings and conferences and you can find yourself in a bondage situation frankly it's because of your own doing but just the same Gideon wasn't ready to become that leader and that man of Valor that the angel proclaimed him to be so if you read on further in judges 6 17 Gideon said I need a sign I need a little more confirmation than an angel so he was instructed to put a sacrifice out and when he did the angel microwaved the sacrifice he took his staff and and he and he he consumed the sacrifice miraculously and so Gideon's First Act of defiance against the midianites would be this he took 10 men he went into one of the temples of Baal he cut down the Groves he destroyed Bell's altar well immediately immediately the bail Lights of the community came to his father's house and said we want him put to death for destroying public property and his dad said no no no he said that's Belle's altar if bail's so powerful let Bale take care of him you're not going to do anything to him he said this false god that you're serving let let him take care of him he's so powerful and suddenly Gideon by one act of defiance against a false god and against an occupying Force became a hero to the people let me tell you if you'll just stand up to the devil you can become a hero and the rest of the people's eyes if you'll stand up to the enemy when he tries to tell you you can't accomplish anything it doesn't matter where you've been it doesn't matter how long you've been in bondage it's time to stand up and say I'm not going any farther you're not pushing me any farther I'm going to be victorious can somebody give Jesus a clap offering right now it's time to stand up and defy anything that's been occupying your territory Gideon gets his sign there's an act of defiance you can read it all for yourself they tore down the Grove they they did all of these things so now he's given a nickname jerubel which means let Baal plead against him because because he has thrown down his altar it was a nickname of defiance but Belle was powerless to do anything against Gideon let me tell you if you'll stand up against Satan you can get the nickname of being powerful that Satan can't do anything against you you can be victorious if you'll stand up and take a stand so that brings us back the overview to where our text take step now Gideon has the influence he has the reputation and he puts a call out in the land we've had enough of these midianites we're going to stand up against them and folks are saying you know if Gideon says it he's done it he's experienced it he's got a testimony he's not just talking again he's done this he stood up he cut down the Groves he tore down the Altar and Baal didn't do anything we need to stand up against these folks and the the news went out they announced we need an army 32 000 folks showed up isn't that awesome what a response what an amazing response 32 000 folks showed up Gideon had if you will a mega Army showed up Far Cry from the 10 that he started with but now those who have been living in bondage and sick of it they showed up at least to see what Gideon was going to say and when they showed up I got to think that Gideon was getting pretty confident Gideon had to be feeling pretty good about this Army this Mega Army that he had assembled that term Mega if you look it up means very large huge you know nowadays we have mega churches and if we aren't careful our goal will be changed from being Soul winners to being numbers conscious that's right now don't forget we're still talking about addition by subtraction you know Goliath was a Mega Man dinosaurs are Mega lizards and both of them are Mega extinct now let me tell you sometimes God has to do some addition by subtraction to find what he really needs to win a victory sometimes if we would quit worrying about the numbers now let me pause here do you not want people coming to First Apostolic church I want as many folks as we can get in the building but not to drag not to brag about a number our goal is our goal is we're not worried about numbers but we want to win souls for the Lord and the only way you can be a soul winner is quit worrying about the numbers and start listening to God and let him tell you what it's going to take to be victorious oh Hallelujah [Applause] no I'm not worried about being a mega church uh you see and let me just give my heart as a preacher today there's a difference in a church growing in a church swelling growth comes from a natural maturing process and getting proper nutrition a church doesn't just up and appear overnight the church has to grow and mature First Apostolic Church as we're celebrating 66 years we didn't have what God has blessed us with immediately God has blessed us and allowed us because we've been nurtured and got the nutrition of the word Through The Years God has allowed us to grow to where we are now are you satisfied never I want more souls but I want us to grow I don't want us to swell you see we can get larger by swelling swelling is caused by injury or infection swelling's not healthy I've seen a few Church churches swell rather than grow they want the injured they they want the their their fishing for those that's got their feelings hurt and that go ahead you see when the infection is healed the swelling goes down and many times when the hurt's over they've gone someplace else we need to be a growing Church a growing thriving church and sometimes now I'm not trying to get rid of anybody make make sure you understand that but in our lives there's some things we must subtract from our lives so we can grow there's some things that we need to eliminate from our lives so we can grow in the nurture and admonition of God numbers do not necessarily denote success the world will always have numbers you see the midianites were innumerable they were numbered as grasshoppers it said they're camels without number now I mean they had more camels than there were people and here's God saying you got too many people you see God knows how to do addition by subtraction to make sure we all understand that it's his power and not our might that accomplishes what takes place in our lives God said you got too many men why he said lest Israel want themselves against me saying my own hand have saved me that term bought means to express pride in oneself or one's accomplishments to boast to blow to brag or to Crow isn't it amazing how a group of people that have been disobedient for seven years have one good conference and everybody shows up and now they're ready to Crow about all they're about to accomplish listen if God's not in it we can do nothing numbers will not matter we can never compare our numbers to the world's numbers but our God's bigger than any number that the world can put on its face so God had to begin addition by subtraction a process for Gideon he had to eliminate some things he said whosoever is fearful and Afraid depart I'm sure that was a tough announcement at the 32 000 Mega Army assembly that number went out and to Gideon's Chagrin I'm sure 22 000 folks said Feet Don't Fail Me Now I'm out of here I just want to see what was going on I didn't really come for a battle anyway get me out of here God had to eliminate fear to be able to do a complete work in his people let me tell you God cannot work in an atmosphere of fear we don't need to be afraid of the devil we don't need to be afraid of the headlines in Fox News or CNN we don't need to be afraid of all the things that we're hearing in the noise of this world I'm not going to be afraid I refuse to find myself living in fear our God is still in control oh Hallelujah fear will paralyze you passage of scripture we know well first Peter 5 and 8 says be sober be vigilant for your adversary the devil has a roaring lion walking about seeking whom he may devour a lion's roar Studies have been done I did a little reading the final Communications Research Institute in the state of North Carolina discovered that when a lion roars loudly it's pray can actually experience Paralysis on the spot which gives the lion time to strike the prey when we walk around in fear of the enemy when we walk around look folks there's too many folks giving the devil too much credit for too many things there's a lot of stuff the devil didn't even do it you did it to yourself your disobedience your inability to do what God's called you to devil didn't have to do anything but get out of your way let me tell you if we aren't careful we'll find ourselves living in fear when it comes to serving God we'll find ourselves every time the the roaring lion walks around wanting to devour us he Roars and we freeze I might as well talk about me some folks fear getting old man you get into Athletics you watch those athletes that have gone past their Prime but they're wanting to prove that they still can sometimes they have to get out of the way and let a rookie step step into their position and say come on you can do it I give honor to our Bishop the First Lady when First Apostolic Church started they had to do everything I mean you can call it micromanaging if you may what micromanaging it was managing to survive Bishop was the song leader he was the chief musician mom was the secretary the custodian the butcher the baker the Candlestick maker whatever was needed they did that but did you know as the church has gone on there's been a delegating of authority take place yes now hear me some of y'all looking at me real straight I realized ain't nobody going to be running this morning it's like you can get out in the aisle if you want to nobody walking the bench back I hope you'll hear me you see we can find ourselves in fear of empowering another generation to propagate the gospel you know who the church's first drummer was do you know how long it's been since I've been behind the drums long time you know what I say thank you Jesus God has sent us much more talented much more equipped another generation and another generation this is a multi-generational church please don't be resistant and don't be fearful of God multiplying the church and God delegating abilities and authorities and honor don't be some of you don't get it yet oh I remember the good old days and they were good old days and we don't want to go back I'll guarantee you Bishop would be the first one to object if we said well we're going to stop having church here in sanctuary we're going to set up a tent out back we're going to have start having Church in the tent like we used to I guarantee you about a week and a half of that not only y'all be wanting to come back inside from fighting mosquitoes and all that stuff sweating and spitting and all right let me tell you God has blessed us don't be afraid to advance I'm not talking about changing we will not change the apostolic message we will not change the whole in this message which is part of the apostolic message but I will tell you this we will change and Advance we're going to use everything that God puts at our disposal to carry this message around the world man Franklin I don't know how Bishop did it he preached Sunday morning do a Sunday morning broadcast message he'd preach Sunday night he'd do be on the Bro on the radio three times a day Monday through Friday teach a Wednesday night bible study I'm telling you that's about a month of that I'd been in the maps in the Bible looking for a message but at that time that's what it took now we've got preachers we've got teachers we've got instructors we've got small groups are you bragging you better know I am God has multiplied us God has provided opportunities to minister in ways I never thought possible we we Minister through Athletics we Minister through education let me tell you don't be afraid to improve don't be afraid to advance we were one of the first Apostolic churches to have a television broadcast some that scared him to death but God has blessed us and given us the opportunity and the ability when covid came along we went right on and kept on having Church online until we could reassemble back together why God knew way back then what we were going to need if we would just make ourselves available don't be fearful and Afraid get in that number that says I'm ready to stand up and I'm ready to do whatever God would have us do oh Hallelujah [Applause] don't be afraid of mortality in the natural I see a lot of men and women they've coined a term for it being used for a while in fact I'll I'll re-quote brother Acres from last weekend he called it midlife crisis for the Acres said I like your convertible but you're still bald-headed some folks don't have midlife crisis they get a midlife devil what wouldn't that mean what but they're trying hey I'm 50 and proven I still can I let me tell you grow old with Grace that's with a fervent desire I'm going to do everything I can for the for the Lord I'm going to fight the devil to the very end I'll kick him I'll name I'll bite him if he knocks my teeth out I'll gumming to death but I'm going to keep fighting don't you be afraid to age gracefully [Applause] your family come along and your kids start growing up some folks fear that they're losing out on life boy I'm meddling today I quit preaching started meddling a long time ago hear me the enemy will try to throw things in your way and put doubts in your flesh don't live in fear God's got a life for you in every phase and every facet of your life every level of existence God's going to be with you you've got something to do don't be part of that crowd that do the dumb things to try to prove that they're still this and they're still that Young Folks don't be afraid of being a Christian and being young oh I'm going to miss out on some of those goofy youthful experiences don't go there I've meddled already some Israel just hit everybody single young men and single young ladies living in the church don't get married out of fear what you mean oh I'm afraid I'm going to be single forever did you know there's some things worse than being single forever that's being married to the wrong person forever yeah yeah you better hear me God if it's in his will has the right person for you but if you get in a hurting get out ahead of God I'm afraid I'm I am preaching right now to somebody you better hear me in this house some of you some of the wisest decisions you've made to say nope we're not going any farther was this if you're not going to serve my God I don't want anything to do with you I don't care how pretty your eyes are I don't God's got the right person for you don't get in a hurry and marry somebody out of fear don't develop some relationship just because you were afraid that you weren't going to be like everybody else you're not like everybody else you're special God made you who you are if you'll stay in touch with him stay in tune with him pray about it that's a good thing to do pray about it some fear because of financial insecurity they won't put their lives under the financial plan of God because afraid they're not going to have enough consequently they don't pay the tithe they don't give an offering they don't set aside and manage and consequently they always do live in the hole if you will some fear complete dedication to God it may be because of the nominal traditions from family past and they say uh you know I I've been hearing the teaching and I realized that The Plan of Salvation is repentance being baptized in the name of Jesus and being filled with Holy Ghost evidence was speaking with tongues I realize that's the plan but you know my Grandmama and my granddaddy they didn't do those things and I'm afraid I'm about quit living in fear let them stand before God and you stand before God for what they knew and for what you know and what you're privy to you stand before God unashamed that you've been obedience to his word don't let some fear of changing a tradition in your life keep you from obeying the word did you know some folks are living in fear to really worship God if you were able to put a camera on them and do side by side pictures when the power of the Holy Ghost is moving in a worship service and you had this clip and when Tennessee just kicked a field goal to beat Alabama oh Lord have mercy a blaspheme now don't leave lock the doors ushers are you saying I shouldn't cheer for my team I said you better cheer for your God better than you cheer for your team you better not be afraid to worship God when I come into the when I come into the house of God I got to give him my best oh yeah I'll cheer for my team when it's appropriate but I'm always going to give my God worship and praise I'm not going to be afraid of what somebody's going to think what somebody's going to say oh you're one of those noise at Pentecostals you better know I am you're one of those somebody human today if you would just turn loose every once in a while and let the Holy Ghost shake you and take over that would be Deliverance for you you'd stop living in fear [Applause] here let me move let me oh let me let me continue Hallelujah had 32 000. I still believe we can pull this off Gideon's thinking I got ten thousand God but you said to do this so I'm trusting you so let's get our battle planted no battle plans yet you still got too many I don't know what was actually said but probably my flesh would say you've got to be kidding God really I I still got too many judges four seven four the Lord said unto Gideon the people are yet too many bring them down into the water without doing violence to the word of the Lord you know where the separation comes a lot of folks when we go to the water a lot of folks as long as we're just be a church in the community and be like everybody else and fellowship you can do this do that when it comes down to the water I'm thankful to have the revelation of Jesus name water baptism and the infilling of the Holy Ghost I'm still not ashamed I'm going to take me down to the water we're going to find out what we're made of he said bring them down in the water and I will try them for thee there and it shall be that of whom I say unto thee this shall go with thee the same shall go with thee and of the whom I say unto thee this shall not go with thee the same shall not go so he brought them down to brought down the people into the water and the Lord said in to Gideon everyone that lapeth of the water with his tongue as a dog lapeth him shalt thou set by himself likewise everyone that bowed down upon his knees to drink and the number of them that laughed putting their hand to their mouth were 300 men but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink and the Lord said unto Gideon by the 300 men that laughed will I save you and deliver the midianites unto thine hand and let all the other people go every man unto his place now get the picture everybody go get a drink so they gathered around and there were some that would Neil they'd take water yet there were others that just fell down that's that's the best water noise I can make sorry the situation was simply this those who knelt down and drank from their hand we're still aware of their surroundings they were still cautious they were still safety conscious because they knew they had a job to do there was a battle about to take place they were encamped near the midianites those who just fell down in my view they've likely if they had a sword or they had a spear they just threw it down they had a shield just threw it down and now I'm just so thirsty it was almost a gluttonous way with which they partook of the water they were careless and unconcerned about their surroundings the others were cautious and aware God said I don't need the careless and in concerned he said tell the careless now he wouldn't put in them out of the Kingdom they were just not Warriors ready to fight he said tell the careless and then concerned go home I need those who are aware I need those who are willing to at all times be concerned and aware of their surroundings God can't give ultimate victory to those who operate spiritually in a careless unconcerned manner too many are willing to lay down their Holy Ghost and pick up their temper or pick up their fleshly gratification and then wonder why they can't live a blessed life let me tell you in the church or out of church everybody can look spiritually aware when the Holy Ghost has fallen the Praise Team singing everybody's together what's it like out in the world what do you look like do you steal have a cautious weary eye around of the attacks of the enemy while you're nourishing yourself with the necessities of life while you're at work while you're at play how do you conduct yourself are you aware of the enemy's attack or do you throw off every restraint and just fall down gluttonously and say if the enemy attacks I don't care I'm thirsty some place the lives under the authority of God call leaders pastors ministers until they disagree with them then they develop a disobedient spirit and say we just see things different but you got to understand when God gets the numbers in his favor addition by subtraction when God got the numbers to 300 verses the innumerable he said now I'm ready to work now I'm ready to do something God wants the steadfast and steady the alert and prepared and for him to use that group he has to sometimes eliminate the fearful and Afraid the careless and unconcerned if my math is correct sister Megan in the math class you may have to check me out on this God's first edition by subtraction which reduced from 32 000 to 10 meant that Gideon lost 68.75 percent of his Force that was eliminated God said you've still got too many the next Edition by subtraction from ten thousand to three hundred now God has eliminated 97 from 10 to 3 000 from 10 000 to 300 he eliminated 97 percent of his Force so if you go from the original 32 000 and reduce it down to 300 his Megaforce is now 0.9375 percent that's still available to fight hmm God's got the numbers in his favor before you start looking at the capacity of sports stadiums and mega churches forget the numbers and know if we will have a spirit that a spirit of power and belief in Christ spirit is not afraid a spirit that has concern the numbers are in our favor praise team get ready Judges 7 12 said in the midianites in the amalekites and all the children lay East along the valley like grasshoppers for the multitude and their camels were without number and the Sands by the seaside for the multitude the steadfast the steady the Brave and unafraid the alert and prepared or ready for battle the numbers do not phase them because you've got to be reminded of God's promise he said in verse 7 the Lord said and to get him by 300 men that laughed well I say you he said all I need is that 300. I'm going to save you verse 8 says so the people took victuals in their hands they had their supplies ready and they're trumpets and he sent all the rest of Israel every man in his teeth and retained those 300 men and the host of the medians were beneath them in the valley I came to tell somebody today there are some relationships some large numbers of voices and even even some Financial numbers that you're needing to release and let go so God can work in your life today there's things that's been creating fear that's been keeping you from living a Victorious Life today is to have addition by subtraction there's some stuff you need to eliminate from your life and God wants to do something for you today stand with me the steady and steadfast we're sensitive to signs of Victory if you read on through Judges 7 God gave a man a dream this dream told of that cake rolling into thee tents of the midianites and rolling over them and destroying them he told the dream to Gideon Gideon said that's confirmation let me tell you God will not only do work if you'll pray he'll give you confirmation that you didn't think possible God will assure you of what you're doing is the right thing don't be afraid to hear the confirmation don't be afraid to be sensitive to what God speaks to you it may be immediate it may be a year off but God's going to fulfill what he's told you he's going to do in your life confirmation came Judges 7 15 and it was so and Gideon heard the telling of the dream and the interpretation thereof that he worshiped and returned to the hosts of Israel said arise for the Lord delivered unto your hand the host of the midians and he divided the 300 men into three companies notice this oh please I've got you standing so you think I'm quitting but stay with me just a moment more Gideon finally got on board with God's plan God was eliminating Gideon took his force and he said you know that's pretty good let's divide them up we're gonna have some special interest groups we're we're gonna we're gonna divide up and I'll guarantee you there were leaders placed over those groups to give commands that they they weren't all could I Pastor just a little more would you let me while you're standing the Bible says when you stand pray and forgive you may have to pray and forgive me after this did you know sometimes the pastor will delegate authority to others well I'll do it if the pastor says do it he did when he delegated authority and asked you to do something that person God had taught Gideon listen to divide your 300 and I want you to notice uh will you take my word forth that I've read it I won't read it all for y'all I'll paraphrase to get us to the end he said now here's how we're going to go in battle we're going to divide up in three groups of a hundred and this is going to be a real tough attack here I want y'all to really go after them he said in one hand I want a torch that's covered and the other hand I want to trumpet huh okay let me ask y'all if you're going to battle in that day What's missing sword the sword's missing wait what are you doing Gideon you're you're your mega Army's been reduced to 300 you're going to surround the enemy and so help me you're not even going to arm them with swords you've given them a torch and a trumpet let me tell you when God says he's going to give you a victory you can put your sword away that's right quit fighting start blowing the trumpet and praise and let your light shine that's what we've got to do it we used to teach our kids This Little Light of Mine I'm gonna let it shine I want you to know when the time came that encircle the midianites that innumerable Army that was numbered as grasshoppers the signal was given and they had coordinated worship all 300 started blowing trumpets all 300 started breaking the picture that was covering the torch and the Torches began to shine and God started using his influence and power it started getting the media and I thought one guy said I'm getting out of here did you hear that and he looked and there was torches and trumpets come well no I better go this way there was more I better go this way and the Bible said they stood in their place [Music] that's why we used to sing victory victory shall be mine victory victory if I hold my peace and let the Lord fight my Battle Victory shall be mine if you will just let the Lord fulfill in your life what he's called you to do if you'll eliminate fear if you'll let praise and worship be your Victory if you'll let your light shine in this world God's Gonna help you eliminate any distraction any fear I wonder if there's anybody in this house today that you're wanting God to add to your life and you're needing to subtract some things maybe you're needing to come to the Altar and say recommit God I need to refocus there's some stuff that's been in my way I want to put that aside I you know I've been having to hold a multi-generational grudge I didn't even cause a problem but I've been having to not like somebody because my mama and my daddy didn't like them would you step out and say God I need to send that on its way I want fear to be out of my life come on come on right now the Holy Ghost is talking to you I I want to live a Victorious Life I'm tired of fearing for my future God's Gonna provide for me I know he is I'm going to be in his will I'm
