really happy really say Amen if you're mad say no if you're mad I don't want you to say anything so because I hope you can get happy before long because you know what when you're in the house of the Lord the word ought to make you happy I said the word ought to make us happy we ought to be excited about the word not who the speaker is but that we're going to get the opportunity to study from the word of the Lord this morning I want to take you to a passage of scripture found in the book of Isaiah the 26th chapter Isaiah the 26th chapter we're going to read four verses without comment until we pray but I hope it will be of insight to the church today Isaiah 26 beginning with verse number one in that day shall this song Be Sung in the land of Judah we have a strong City salvation will God appoint for walls and boards open ye the gate at the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in that will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee trustee in the Lord forever for in the Lord Jehovah is Everlasting strength for a few moments today I would speak to the church you are the church I would speak to the church on this subject we have a strong City and subtitle it maintaining Apostolic identity let's pray savior I love you I'm grateful for this opportunity for this wonderful house full of Believers who've joined together today Lord I Thank you for the praise that's gone up already for the blessings that have come down now God I pray that you would order our steps let us be your mouthpiece to speak as you would have us to speak let all that we say and do be in your will in Jesus name we pray amen in 2015 right at eight years ago I was asked to speak to several prominent Representatives of leadership from some of the largest Apostolic organizations in the world I was a guest of urchin Graduate School of Theology in St Louis Missouri and was asked to address this group of leaders who represent literally the bulk of apostolic organizations in this nation and around the world and my assigned subject to speak to them on was maintaining Apostolic identity in study this past week I begin reading the word and I went back to some scriptures as in my devotion that reminded me of this event that I was privileged to speak at maintaining your Apostolic identity and this passage of scripture in my study came back to me for this is the scripture that I used as a text Foundation to speak so I want to remind us how important maintenance is if you have a new vehicle no matter the price that you paid if you do not keep it maintenanced before long it will give you trouble and even stop running I remember visiting a dealership over here several years ago and they had in their mechanical display area that was just by their maintenance they had an engine out there from one of their brand new vehicles a lady had bought the vehicle brand new but didn't understand she was supposed to change the oil and check the oil and she was one of those kind of folks when the idiot light came I mean the the warning light came on that said oil the best way to avoid that was either put a sticker over it or if It beeped Turn up the radio so you couldn't hear it and she had literally allowed that vehicle to run totally drive or oil until the motor seized up and stopped a stopped a vehicle that was under warranty you have to maintenance things you have to maintain some things maintenance is important in fact the term to maintain has several definitions one means to cause or enable to continue if you don't maintenance some things they won't keep going to keep something at the same level or rate to maintain there's some things that must be maintained and not changed to maintain also means to keep something in good condition or in working order by checking or repairing it regularly and to maintain also Define means to provide with Necessities for life or existence there's some things that will not exist cannot live unless they are maintained along with that I said I was asked to speak on maintaining Apostolic identity identity defined as the fact of being who or what a person or a thing is and of course to be Apostolic for our definition means like the apostles to follow the apostles Doctrine so I hope today that you would allow me to revisit scriptures that I've preached from many times in this assembly but to remind everybody in the house we must maintain the apostolic identity of the apostolic church that God has given us it's important that we back up sometime and do a little maintenance work make sure we're doing what we're supposed to do to maintain who we are we must take a look around and identify Who We Are Isaiah in our text speaks of a strong City the church being the analogy of the strength that Zion or Jerusalem representing the church in type and Shadow in scripture we would compare the Church of the Living God the apostolic church the church of Believers with that of a strong City we as the church must be that strong City in the body of Christ the noted Bible commentator Barnes said of this passage we have a strong City he said Jerusalem this does not mean that it was then strongly fortified but that God would guard it let me tell you we can't be the church without God there's no form there's no ritual there's no denominal attachment there's nothing that we can do if God's not in the church we will not be fortified and we will not be protected so let's get that out of the way for the church to be strong God has to be our protector Jerusalem in the natural was a city that was capable of being strongly fortified but the idea here was it wasn't walls that would protect Jerusalem in and of itself but that God would become the protector and notice it said salvation will God appoint for walls that is he will himself be the defender of his people in place of walls and bull works let me tell you the walls the protection of the church the thing that protects the church is God and His grace God is our Salvation it said that salvation will God appoint for us well what is salvation God's grace begins our salvation for Ephesians 2 8 you know it well says for by grace are you saved through faith that not of yourselves it is the gift from God from God grace is a gift from God his grace is the saving agent but not only does his grace provide that saving agent obedience to his word will bring Salvation you see in Acts the second chapter Peter preached a message of conviction he preached conviction so strong that they said what shall we do you see the church we still need to be preaching a message that convicts the loss not condemns but convicts we need to be preaching a message that says you need to have what the church has you need to be in the church you need to be inside the walls of protection of salvation when they said what shall we do you can help me quote it then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized all you that want to that's not what it says is it he said repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost for the promise is unto you and to your children and them that are far off even as many as the Lord are God shall call now there's our wall there's our protection he said God would be our Salvation we've got to be obedient to his word to have God's wall of protection around us brother Whitley so eloquently preached to us last week and ministered to us about the saving agent of water versus the condemning agent of water reminding us that the same water that saved Noah condemned the rest of the world he read to us from Mark 16 16 that said that he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned many mistakenly have now turned this passage of scripture and they interpret it to say he that believeth and is saved shall be baptized that's not what it says it said he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but the Whitley reminded us but I remind us again first Peter 3 20 said which sometimes were disobedient when Once the long suffering of God wait in the days of Noah while the ark was a preparing wherein few that has even eight Souls were saved by water the like figure whereunto even baptism death also now save us you see if we're going to erect the walls of protection against this world around the church our Salvation message must be the wall that protects us but let me continue on for most in the house could say preacher I agree with the message we're ready to go to eat dinner now but the scripture didn't stop with walls our text didn't stop with walls for it made this statement it said salvation will God appoint for walls and bull works now allow me to take the analogy just a bit further we have a strong City Salvation will got a point for walls and boards for you see it for many of us and many churches even now today who believe and practice the apostolic message there has been a move afoot to all we're going to keep our walls but we're going to eliminate our bull works what water bull works in the first place the term bull work properly defined is a word that means bastions or REM Parts the original meaning properly anti-mural defense or additional jetting out defense a space without the wall of a city raised up like a small wall the Syriac renders it bashiro son of a wall meaning a small wall it was usually a heap of Earth thrown up around the city that constituted noticing notice an additional defense so that if they were driven from they could Retreat within their walls mounds of Earth second Corinthians 4 and 7 says but we have this treasure in Earthen vessels now please stay with me for we in the Apostolic Church we're going to do a little maintenance today for you see we've got to make sure the walls are solid we still believe the Salvation message but let me tell you there have been some bulwarks some additional protection of the flesh stay with me that have been raised outside the walls to protect an attack against our core value and belief and if we aren't careful the elephant in the room in many of our movements will be let's tear down all the bulwarks all the fleshly barriers and let's just all be Jesus name apostolics with our walls now some of you really I hope you're just listening and not offended you're really quiet right now you see separation from the world is our bulwark a separating of the flesh from the things of the world becomes our bulwark it's not the Salvation message but there are some fleshly barriers that we need to put between us and this world second Corinthians 6 and 17 says wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate saith the Lord and touch not the unclean thing and I will receive you and I will be a father unto you and ye shall be my sons and daughters saith the Lord Almighty you see there are some separations aside outside the wall of salvation we must have core salvation convictions that we practice that are scriptural and unwavering I read acts the second chapter two there's no wiggle room it's what it says that's what we should do but in addition we should also have some traditional corporate convictions that we share with those with which we fellowship and interact that is we will find cultural and ethnic accommodations that vary from one movement to another but understand when Proverbs said Iron sharpeneth Iron so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friends we should look alike we should talk like there should be some fleshly things that separate us from the world we're doing a little maintenance work today we're checking to make sure we're where we should be that we haven't backed up that we're taking care of business we should also have some personal convictions some Earthen fleshly bull works if you will that provide separation from the world that would attack our salvation the reason some are so quick to backslide and forfeit their salvation is they have either torn down or never developed any personal convictions that provide separation from the world consequently every attack of the enemy immediately attacks their core belief attacks their wall because there was no additional protections outside it our personal convictions are not our salvation however when one removes the bull works one salvation will be at risk and under constant strain and attack from Satan himself Proverbs 25 28 said he that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down without walls have some personal convictions you didn't have to hear it from your preacher you've got a revelation from God there's some stuff I'm not going to do in the flesh it may not even send me to hell but there's some stuff I'm not going to indulge myself in the flesh aside from just following the Salvation message there's some bulwarks outside the walls Proverbs 29 18 said this where there is no vision the people perish but he that keepeth the law happy is he the NIV interpreted it this way where there is no revelation people cast off restraint but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom's instruction we must maintain separation from sin and its activities its Tendencies and its modes as to have a buffer zone between the attack of the enemy and the attack on our salvation well-worn story but I will repeat it for the few that might not have heard it in Stone Mountain Georgia if you go on the top of Stone Mountain Georgia that great big rock that's jetting up out of the ground historians and park rangers there will tell you that in the early days of Stone Mountain when they started taking people up there to look at that it has a gradual slope and the slope is so gradual that people would sometimes walk out on that slope to a point of no return and they could not get back to the top without help and some had even walked off the very edge because it was steeper than they thought it was it was almost an optical illusion so the park in its first attempts carefully begin to map out where that point of no return was and they begin painting White Stripes along the top to tell people don't go past that line so you know what people would do that go right up to the line and our ancestors and our forefathers in the apostolic movement have raised up some fleshly barriers somebody better hear the spirit of what this preacher is trying to we got a maintenance the church and Who We Are there's some of us we think we are so smart we can go right up and go and the Fall Away From what God called us to be and what the church should be we find ourselves at a point of no return and suddenly it's not just about getting back it's about surviving without going off the edge so you know what the park did the park put up some fences several feet away from the white line and when one of the park rangers was asked about this story he told the story and they said well why did you put the fence way back here he said so we've got time to rescue all the dummies that try to jump the fence let me tell you some of our forefathers some of those folks that were farsight enough to see what we would be facing today put up some barriers some fleshly barriers oh brother McCoo you mean if I do that I'm going to hell I'm not here trying to judge you but there's some barriers there's some fences that our forefathers put up that we need to quit trying to jump the fence and we ought to say God I know you've protected me you put some things to keep me safe you're protecting my core values my core Doctrine somebody hear this preacher today God has allowed some forefathers some ancestors some faith-filled men and women to put up some fleshly barriers I know this is not popular Isaiah said it this way when the enemy shall come in like a flood the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him a standard is morals ethics and habits established by Authority custom or an individual as acceptable there have some been some standards some barriers some bull works not to restrict your freedom but to save your life not to restrict your flesh but to provide for you a safe haven for your salvation we must maintain our Apostolic identity why because Satan himself is attacking the very idea of identity at every turn it started in our educational system if you talk about creation so-called science tried to re-identify creation and say it was some big bang some evolutionary happening that took place re-identify where we came from when God created marriage between one man and one woman for one lifetime Satan himself has entered in and redefined and re-identified in our culture what marriage is you may not be running but I am preaching if we don't realize hell itself is re-identifying some things and we as The Church Must maintain who we are and whose we are we will not have some kind of conference and re-identify what marriage is about we will not have some kind of conflict we're not going to have a convocation and re-establish with the apostolic church has changed some things that's not what we are or what we will be God created male and female Satan has deceived us into saying identify as anything except what God created man oh man preacher preach me some love I am I love you enough to tell you you better know who you are and whose you are the apostolic Jesus name church the church of the Lord Jesus Christ the real Church of God if you're going to be a believer you're not going to be a re-identifying things we must know what our identity is we must document the boundaries of the Flesh in our organizations in our churches in our families and among ourselves the psalmist said it this way in Psalms 48 12. walk about Zion take a walk around the church gonna a maintenance trip walk about Zion go round about her notice tell the towers thereof Mark you well the bull works consider her palaces that you may tell it to the generation following listen this isn't just about me I'm not so egocentric I got kids I got grandbabies that I want those bulwarks to stay up I I want those protections for them hear me I like to see another generation if God tarries if we don't maintain what God has blessed us with oh somebody hear me in this house if we don't mean I can't help what the world's gonna look like and what the world's going to think but watch the church gonna look like what's the church going to think in another generation he mentioned three things he said tell the towers thereof a tower in this definition was on the wall it was an elevated location on the wall that provided an advantageous View for the Watchman to see outside the wall God's brought Watchmen in our Lives Generation after generation voices that have given the warning before we could even see what was coming when our Bishop got the call to come to Knoxville and start a church and a Christian School who could think that our educational system would have such hellish influence we have some of the greatest teachers in the world but many of them's hands are bound by what they can even say they can't pray they can't refer to the Lord but see there's been Watchmen raised up that gave warnings a long time ago Isaiah 62 6 said I have said Watchman upon the walls oh Jerusalem there's Watchmen God's going to send us voices to the church that will cry out that can see some stuff that we can't even see we're safe behind our walls of salvation but if we don't listen to The Watchmen are you elevating yourself no sorry but I am elevating the ministry ministering voices that will speak to our flesh Towers elevated so the Watchman can see oh Jerusalem I've said Watchmen upon my walls o Jerusalem which shall never hold their peace day nor night I'm not going to shut up talking about it the word of God's going to keep going forth there's a reason we rode over the door in stone Holiness unto the Lord this will remain a Holiness Church not because of my Proclamation but because the church is the church when it's a Holiness Church he said they shall never hold their peace day nor night ye that make mention of the Lord keep not silent keep preaching it keep teaching it three things he mentioned in Psalms 48 12 Towers it said and then Mark Weller bulwarks know where the boundaries are know where those additional boundaries are I refuse to tear down fleshly bull works that our ancestors and previous generations raised until I know what they're protecting and then it said palaces the place of plenty the place of comfort the place that's a safe dwelling safety inside the walls Psalms 122 6-7 said pray for the Peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper that love thee while we use that in the natural it's very important to spiritually understand the church is Jerusalem as well it's the mother of us all you need to pray for the church not the walls the cement the roof not the carpet the individuals the collective group of the church peace be within thy walls Prosperity within thy palaces and what did it say in Psalms 48 14 for this God is our God forever and ever he will be our God even to death verse 13 said it was first to tell the generation to follow verse 14 he's God forever and ever going to be our guide even if that's why some folks don't understand our funerals they think we're celebrating they died foreign we're not celebrating they died we're celebrating a promotion that they fought the fight that kept the face they finished the course they've done what God called them to do see where's the church we can have tolerance without compromise personal conscious and corporate conscience First Corinthians 10 23 said this all things are lawful for me but all things are not expedient all things are lawful for me but all things edify not now words mean something let's identify there are some things scripturally that are lawful for salvation or damnation but there are some things that some of us would like to say man that's right on the line we're going to do some more of this there are some things that I can do that you can do but we can do that may not end of itself send you to hell it's expedient it's it's it's it's not something that's going to violate the law All Things Are but it said all things rather it's lawful it's that all things are not expedient the term lawful means being in harmony with the law in other words there's some stuff that I could do if I wanted to and it may not in and of itself bring damnation but there's some things that are not expedient what does expedient mean experience suitable for achieving a particular end in a given situation what is the end that we're trying what's expedient for the church let me give you a hint our goal is our goal is there's some things that I may or may not do not because I think it's necessarily going to damn my life to hell but there's some things I'm not going to do because it will not achieve the goal of being a witness to someone else that might be weak now this is where as they say the rubber meets the road is it about you or is it about soul in it man it's let me just keep going it said all things are lawful for me there's stuff I can do but all things air to find out that term edify means to instruct or improve someone morally or intellectually there's some stuff you can do may not be a heaven or hell issue but it certainly won't improve you morally or intellectually in other words it'll make you immoral and dumb Romans said it this way dealing with thee issues of that day we have different issues and different dispensations issue in that day there were some that were pointing fingers at those who ate meat that had been offered to idols now the real truth was there was nothing wrong with that meat that had been offered Idols because Idols were dumb false gods that was just as good a meat as any other meat but some had developed some doctrines off you eat meat that's offered to Idols that you're sinning now Paul made it plain that eating meat that's offered to idols in fleshly and in damnation it was nothing but notice Paul had a greater goal Paul said there's something more important I'm not worried about law right now I'm worried about expediency he said let us not therefore judge one another anymore but judge this rather that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother's way I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that there is no there is nothing unclean of itself but to him that esteem anything to be unclean to him it is unclean there's some stuff if you've got a personal conviction about you don't need to do it But If thy brother be grieved with thy meat now walk us thou not charitably destroy not him with thy meat for whom Christ died let not then your good be evil spoken of there's some stuff if you will we have a spiritual reputation to maintain that we're representing Christ and there's a greater good there's an expedience that we must reach oh Hallelujah please fill my heart I'm maintenance in the church today where are we where do we find ourselves today for the kingdom of God is Not meat and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost that's what the church ought to be full of righteousness peace and joy not fighting not arguing Hallelujah for he that in these things Verse 18 serveth Christ is acceptable to God and approved to Men Let Us therefore follow after the things which make for peace and things wherewith know rather one may edify another for me destroy not the work of God all things indeed are pure but it is evil for that man who eateth with a fence it is either it is either good neither to eat flesh nor to drink wine nor anything whereby thy brother stumbleth or is offended or is made weak notice how Paul is so eloquently reminding the mature in Christ the church not babes in Christ but those who have been in this thing a while that there's some stuff that I may not do that may not be a heaven or hell issue but I've got a greater purpose hast thou faith have it to thyself before God happy as he that condemneth not himself in the things which he alloweth and he that doubteth is damned if he eat because he eateth not a faith for whatsoever is not faith is not a faith is sin mayest may I remind us again our walls are salvation praise team get ready because I want to take this home because all we've talked about is walls and separation and limiting access but you know what I also found out a walled city that has nothing but walls you couldn't get in it do you know that if it had walls nothing but walls how can you get in you got to climb the wall that's a that's a defense so if you're going to have walls you know what you what else you got to have you got to have Gates now please understand my simple analogy this is as deep as I can get I'm sorry I if you've got to have walls you got to have Yates our text said salvation will God appoint for walls or bulwarks but verse 2 said open the gates that the righteous nation which keepeth truth may enter in if we're going to have analogies of walls being our Salvation how do you get inside the walls I'm glad you asked because Isaiah 60 and 18 said this violence shall no more be heard in the land wasting or destruction within thy borders but Thou shalt call thy wall salvation and thy Gates praise let me tell you if you want to get inside the church you need to come Praise Him if you want to enjoy the Palaces if you want to enjoy the protection of Salvation then you need to know how to come in praise it people need to know like what you've been seeing happen somebody down here in the altar shaking their hands waving their arms people dancing shouting jumping crying oh Roman cool that's emotionalism you know what God created me a creature of emotion I have got nothing else but my emotions to give praise that's all I've got he said they shall call the wall salvation and the gates praise the gates of inside salvation will be praised that's what gives us access the psalmist stand with me in Psalms 1 18 19 says open to me the gates of righteousness and I will go in them and I will praise the Lord this gate of the Lord into which the righteous shall enter I will praise thee for thou has heard me and art become my salvation the stone which the builders refused is become The Headstone of the corner this is the Lord's doings it's marvelous in his eyes [Music] now I know some of you experienced mechanics change your own oil y'all got those little pans and you know I'm sorry I quit doing that a long time ago if you hadn't heard there's Valvoline Quick changes two of them over here right up on Merchants you know what happens you pull in there and boy they start yelling hey number one I'm not sure what they're saying it's real impressive try to make you think that you're in a NASCAR pit stop you know but there's something happens always at the end of that quick oil change on my vehicle because on my vehicle it's got a warning things that says change oil now that's that's a maintenance warning I got a little sticker up here first thing they do they give me a new sticker and then the second thing he does he says put your key in Turn It Forward two times where it clicks but don't start it and then pump your pedal five times now don't act like you hadn't done that not all y'all change your oil I know but and you know what a new signal comes up it comes up a new screen you've been revitalized you don't need to change anymore let me tell you we've just had a little oil change today we've had a little maintenance check now where are you are you ready to stomp your foot a little bit are you aware you can say I've reset if you haven't reset let me tell you where to reset you step out in the Altar and you start praising you step out and say I'm going to give God some praise this morning I want to make sure come on if you want to make sure you're reset step out and say I'm going to praise I'm gonna praise yes Glory Hallelujah [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] get in this house [Applause]
