i'm going to let you move to your seats let the audience be seated we greet you in the precious name of jesus and we welcome you to sunday morning worship service here at first apostolic church what an honor and a privilege it is to have every one of you worshiping with us we want you to feel the welcome of first apostolic church and we want you to feel at home here because when you're home that's when you can as we say let your hair down and that's what we like to do when we worship the lord we want to be in his presence i give honor to all of our guests that are joining us today a few guest names that i have been given i want to say welcome uh to the ward family from bloomington indiana we're so glad to have olga poldinick and cut and carol poldinic and terry bass could welcome welcome all of these guests that are joining with us today honored to have you worshiping with us and we want you to feel at home as we worship together and i'll say there's another guest that i would give special welcome to we're so glad to have brother isaac calden joining us helping us with our music today brother isaac i love you my friend what an awesome awesome musician and teacher uh he and our uh praise band have been meeting and uh improving and preparing first apostolic church uh whether you know it or not we are so blessed to have a music team that is uh devoted to excellence in preparation i think they all deserve a great big hand [Music] i don't know what time they started practicing and preparing yesterday but i know it was in the wee hours of the morning today before some of them got in they were right here at the church practicing preparing and improving their abilities to lead praise and worship and i thank them for all that they're doing and i'll say let me say this we have just experienced a wonderful camp meeting our kids camp coming up this week you've heard all the particular uh particulars announced about that earlier and we are just a few weeks away from a new school year beginning at apostolic christian school and apostolic kiddie academy and we are blessed uh after the pandemic and all of the events that we've dealt with you always wonder what enrollment will look like but i'm i'm happy uh to announce that uh our numbers of students registering is up we are growing and i'm excited about that and with with growth comes more need so i want to uh make this known we are indeed having a few positions available for qualified child care workers to work in apostolic kitty academy there are some positions that are coming available my qualifieds you need to be holy ghost phil members of first apostolic church of knoxville and we will help train you but you there's a few other requirements but if you're interested in employment uh it seems like everybody's got signs up now uh help wanted uh well if you uh are qualified uh to be working an apostolic child care center and you're interested in that if you would stop by our office our office hours are every morning uh 6 30 uh to six every day rather and you can pick up a uh employees handbook and you can get applications get all that information and i'd encourage you to do so if you are interested in that and say i'm also excited about continuing the revival spirit that we have experienced here at first apostolic church uh tonight be ready tonight uh just uh before the offering there's going to be a special presentation uh brother will farmer will be giving you a uh a report on what the lord did for us in kids quest at camp meeting this year we had if i mistake not the number and he'll give this precise numbers but we had several received the holy ghost we had eight from first apostolic church our own kids isn't that awesome received the baptism of the holy ghost we had sunday night six more folks i received the baptism of the holy ghost we baptized a couple in the name of jesus so revival is here campmeeting spirit is here and i hope that we can continue that spirit on that's what we always strive to do and be pleasing to the lord i want to call your attention this morning to the book of luke the ninth chapter i'm going to just let you stay in your seats we've stood a bit in worship and nothing wrong with that but i'm going to let you uh sit down for a little while but that doesn't mean if the lord moves you you can't get up and worship and praise at any time i want to take you to luke the ninth chapter bishop i thought you were going to go ahead and just preach what i was going to preach about that'd been all right when you took up the offering i'm just going a few verses behind where he was and may go back there so i i know at least i'm in line with what the lord had given bishop to say at offering time luke 9 we're going to begin reading it verse 51 and it came to pass when the time was come that he should be received up he steadfastly set his face to go to jerusalem and he sent messengers before his face and they went and entered into a village of the samaritans to make ready for him and they speaking of these samaritans did not receive him because his face was as though he would go to jerusalem and when his disciples james and john saw this they said lord wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume them even as elias did but he turned and rebuked them and he said ye know not what manner of spirit ye are in or of rather but the son of man has not come to destroy men's lives but save them and they went on to another village for a few moments this morning i would give you this question as my title what is my spiritual condition what is my spiritual condition let's pray savior i love you lord thank you for your awesome presence that we've experienced once again lord you have come on the scene and inspired our hearts with praise and worship lord i'm thankful for the promise of waiting on you the strength that you provide when we wait on you i thank you for all of the songs that have inspired our heart and enriched our spirit now god i pray that your word would now go down and touch us deep down inside and direct us change us refresh us renew us we thank you and praise you in jesus name we pray amen and amen what is my spiritual condition the american hospital association advises physicians to use the following one-word conditions in describing a patient's condition to those inquiring including the media number one condition is undetermined that means the patient is still awaiting a physician or an assessment from the hospital the next condition is good condition which means their vital signs are stable and within normal limits patient is conscious and comfortable indicators are excellent the next condition is fair vital signs are stable and within normal limits patient is conscious but may be uncomfortable indicators are favorable the next condition is serious condition vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits patient is seriously ill indicators are questionable the next condition is critical vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits patient may be unconscious indicators are unfavorable and the last condition is simply dead that's pretty blunt isn't it vital signs are persistently absent they're dead please notice the condition just before death is to be in critical condition when one gets in critical condition one has catastrophic injuries or an infection either viral or bacterial that's likely untreatable an untreatable disease or a severe lack of nourishment they're just before dead please realize that it is a vital importance in your spiritual life not to let your spirit get in critical condition as well injuries situations can affect your spiritual condition that even though you've walked with jesus even though you've experienced his miracles even though you've been there when mighty works have been performed one can find yourself in a spiritually critical condition if you aren't careful critical conditions spiritually can be defined exhibiting the spirit of one that looks for and points out faults and defects now notice the chronology of events in the verses from luke just before our text peter and john had been invited to a prayer meeting with jesus man that puts you in pretty good company don't it man if we announce everybody we're going to have a prayer meeting with jesus most folks would show up but you know he does show up when we have prayer meetings but they had a personal invitation from jesus in the flesh to come and join in prayer they went to a place to pray and yes they did what too many do during prayer meeting they dozed off so when they dozed off suddenly they were awakened from their sleep and they witnessed jesus standing with moses and elias oh they're experiencing something that no one else would experience what an amazing thing what are we waking to see the bible says when they woke up they woke up to the glory of jesus they got to feeling so good they got so spiritual they said we need to build three tabernacles here one for each of them and we need to stay here man when you get a breakthrough in prayer meeting sometimes you say i just don't want to leave i'd like to stay here some of the altar services we had it can't meet him the presence of the lord was so strong i just wanted to stay here that's a good situation man that's exciting it's good to be there but as soon as they came down from the mountain jesus said we can't stay here forever as soon as they came down from the mountain the first thing they ran into was someone with real-life problems they ran into a man he said my son is a lunatic real life problems we run into a lot of lunatic spirits nowadays and i won't try to define those any farther but folks are doing a lot of crazy stuff in this world and yeah i'd like to stay in the presence of the lord in church all the time i'd like to set up a tabernacle and dwell here but there's a real world that we deal with sometimes and spirit-filled folks we sometimes have to go out and face some very difficult circumstances [Applause] and you know what happened this man came to jesus said jesus touched my son said your disciples tried to cast the spirit out of them and they couldn't do it and jesus said oh oh faithless and perverse generation and jesus healed the child and he chatted in one other of the synoptic gospels he talked about this can't happen unless somebody fasts and prays and so help me once this happened rather than finding a little humble spirit about them and realizing we're not all that in a bag of chips they hear that somebody else is saying in the name of jesus come out somebody else is casting out devils in the name of jesus and they go to jesus hey jesus we stopped that we wouldn't let them do that because they weren't with us now understand these are followers of christ these are apostles these are apostolics if you will they rebuked others for casting out in the name of jesus and jesus said if they're doing this in the name of jesus they are with us they're for us they may not be in our little group but don't don't stop folks from calling on the name of jesus in the midst of all that they argued over who was the greatest i'm greater than the kingdom of god and you are no i am bunch of apostolics doing this now and then we get to our text we find that jesus was headed to jerusalem he was on a mission but as he was going to jerusalem he had the opportunity to stop off in a samaritan village and he said an advanced party to go ahead of him to let him know he was coming i'm sure there were great crowds and he wanted to get everybody knowing that jesus is headed this way and the samaritans found out that jesus wasn't their final wasn't his final destination in their village he was just passing through they said well if you're not going to give us enough attention we it's about us you know just go on boy it's bad when you get in that kind of spirit jesus it's all about me every church service is all about me entertain me jesus it's all about if you can't entertain me and make me feel good about me just go on jesus but you know they weren't the only ones that had a spiritual problem they were samaritans i can see them in their lack of understanding not being willing to have jesus come because they didn't get all they wanted but his disciples said jesus would you let us call down fire and burn them up they should have been mature followers of christ but instead they got to a point that they wanted to take vengeance if they weren't with me lord give us just say the word and we'll we'll call down fire like elias and burn them up jesus told them you don't know what spirit you're in in other words he said you don't know what your spiritual condition is let me tell you can walk with jesus you can talk with jesus you can experience his miracles you can come to camp meeting you can be involved in all kinds of things but if you aren't careful you can still find yourself in critical condition spiritually if you find yourself criticizing everything and everything don't go your way you may be seated everybody's calmed down one who becomes hypercritical of everything and everybody and has and has nothing good to say about the work of god in the church of god you may be in a spiritually life threatening condition your pulse may be normal you may have good vital signs in the natural your blood pressure may be fine you may be the picture of health but you could be on the verge of a spiritual death if you find yourself in spiritually critical condition let me first state the church is not a perfect place but we are striving for perfection in christ and let me also remind you the church at its worst is better than the world at its best for you see there are symptoms of finding yourself to be in critical condition spiritually if you can't control your tongue you're in critical condition i don't care how spiritual you think you are james 3 1 said my brethren be not many masters knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation for in many things we offend all if any man offend not in word the same is a perfect man what's that mean we sometimes say stuff we ought not to say i'm not perfect if i can't bridle my tongue i'm in trouble he said if somebody has never offended in word you're the perfect man and you're able also to bridle the whole body he goes on and makes these comparisons behold we put bits in the horse's mouth that they may obey us and we turn about their whole body also the ships which though they be great are driven of fierce winds yet they are turned about with a very small helm whether so ever the governor listeth even so the tongue a little member and boasteth great things behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth and the tongue is a fire a world of iniquity so is the tongue among our members that it defileth the whole body and setteth on fire the course of nature and it's set on it is set on the fire of hell let me tell you if you can't control your tongue you're in spiritual critical condition james said who is a wise man an endued with knowledge among you let him show out of a good conversation can you speak good about something can you say anything good about what god's doing can you have a good conversation every once in a while but if you have bitter envy and stripes in your heart glory not and lie not against the truth this wisdom descendeth not from above but is earthy sensual and devilish you see when we become the evaluator of all that is spiritual we set ourselves on a plane that we now have become the number one critic you are a critic you are in critical condition for where envying and strife is there is confusion and every evil work but the wisdom that is from above is first pure and peaceable and gentle and easily to be entreated that term entreated there means easily to be questioned or approached have you have you known there's some people it's just easy to ask them a question you're you're comfortable they're not going to bite your head off if you've got a question or even a difference there's some folks you can go up to and you can talk to them there's other folks you're scared to death to ask them a question a school teacher that's unapproachable won't be a good school teacher it's not staff meeting time yet but a teacher that thinks they know everything's not a good teacher some teachers are approachable and you talk to them you know you know some of the greatest answers i've ever gotten from a teacher i don't know but we'll find out but did you know some of the greatest question answers i've got from a good preacher is the same i don't know but we'll look i'm not a know-it-all i don't know everything but if you have a question i want to be approachable as your pastor i want us as children of god to be approachable and not defensive when the world asks us why we do and what we do we need to be so approachable that folks will say i want to know what you've got we don't need some smart alec answer that that tries to put some center down they need to want to approach us it's easy to be entreated full of mercy good fruit without partiality and without hypocrisy hypocrisy there's a whole bible lesson there and verse 18 said and the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace blessed is the peacemaker god give me for more folks that aren't in critical condition instead they're trying to make peace they're not stirring something here and telling something there they're saying i want to make peace you know what he said about you he said you're one of the finest people that ever walked in shoe leather not you know what he said about you he said he wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire you know they say you may be going crazy if you start talking to yourself but i say sometimes some of the most intelligent conversations i've ever had when i talk to myself you know why because there's been a few times i've said mccool shut your mouth and don't say another word some of the greatest advice i've ever given to myself i've never yet regretted saying let me tell you we as people of god don't need to find ourselves in critical condition criticizing everything putting everything down let's talk about the goodness of god if we got to talk about something let's brag on our brothers and sisters let i said we're not perfect but we're striving for perfection in christ i'm not trying to point out every ill and every bad thing that's going on [Applause] there are some who live such negative existences bad-mouthing throwing off on everything criticizing belittling things that they should be thankful for they romanticize the past at the expense of the present and the future man i'm thankful for my heritage i'm thankful for my past i've heard bishop say it before he's thankful for where he came from that was that was the trail that was was paid for us but i've also said i heard him say i don't want to go back to the basement i don't want to go back to having to have church in the tent i don't want to go back i'm thankful for where we are and where we're headed you know in the church we have gone through a lot of transitions of the way things happen i can remember well when first apostolic church was one of the first apostolic churches to go on television and did you know there was some well-meaning people thought that was a horrible thing oh they're going whatever way that is we had all kinds of stories told on us they're holding up signs telling everybody behind the scenes when to shout they've got makeup artists making their faces up they're really watching known better than that but you know what we didn't do we didn't spend our time arguing folks with had those kind of criticisms we just kept having church you know what we're going to do we're going to keep having church i said we're going to keep having church let me let me let you in on secret bishop told a little bit about this i hope you don't mind me quoting you you can change me if you can correct me bishop and his brother when they started evangelizing boy they brought something horrible into the church his brother played an electric guitar oh dear god they used to call that a hot guitar man the church is going elvis shares the world but you know we kept on using a hot guitar and we started leading praise and worship and there was folks out in the world said you know what you can worship with an electric guitar now i realize we're not shouting and running but i hope somebody's hearing me today because the enemy will cause us to infight and criticize ourselves when god is leading us we're not changing our stance on holding this one iota we're not changing the apostolic message what it takes to be saved one hour that is unmovable that is not changeable but let me tell you things will happen different sometimes man when we finally got used to hot guitar you know what happened at the church some preacher son started playing the drums in church you heard about that bunch in knoxville they got drums in their church now oh dear god now i know that sounds nuts too but there are sometimes anything that changes i'm again it. you better hear i remember brother mike williams i remember when somebody got upset the first time we wore choir robes because they said you can't worship in a robe it happened preacher what are you setting us up for not one thing i'm saying before you criticize everything you better see if the power of the holy ghost is still moving the house if folks are getting if somebody's getting the holy ghost they may not sing it the way you used to sing it but if somebody's worshiping and praising you better say go on get it go on i may not understand it how hallelujah don't find yourself in critical condition it's right next to spiritual death how can you get in spiritual critical condition an injury can cause it i've told this story before in our church but i'll repeat it to those who haven't heard it many years ago when we lived across the street from my mom and dad in our backyard we had a huge tree i couldn't reach around it it was a cedar tree huge tree it looked so mighty so massive and it was there for several years as we lived there but we got to noticing a windstorm came through and several of the branches uncharacterized uncharacteristically broke off one creased our fence cedar tree wasn't supposed to there wasn't that bad of wind wouldn't that bet a storm so finally we got to worrying about the health of that tree we got someone out with a chainsaw and they were going to take that tree down and so they started cutting that tree down it looked so good on the outside still looked like a healthy tree couple branches and broke my hips and they got about understand a tree that i could not reach around they got about four inches in to the tree and suddenly the center of that tree was nothing more than pulp and mush oh on the outside about four inches in all the way around it was still holding but somewhere along the way that tree had got injured somewhere along the way that tree had been opened up to some type of creature that could consume part of that tree and it was dying from the inside out it was being destroyed from the inside out let me hear you you can look like patty pentecost if you allow yourself to dwell on your injuries you can be hurting down inside harboring something inside you that can be eating away at you and destroying you spiritually don't allow some injury to come inside you don't allow yourself to get your feelings hurt about anything don't ever afford yourself the luxury of harboring an offense holding a grudge or being offended it will result in critical condition for yourself spiritually luke 17 1 said then he said unto disciples it is impossible but that offenses will come but woe unto him through whom they come psalms 119 165 says great peace have they which love thy law and nothing shall offend them listen if you're about to get offended over something get back in the word of god an offense does not afford you the option of being offended let me say that an offense does not afford you the option of being offended but they were trying to hurt my feelings so they were talking about me on purpose so great peace have they which love thy law and nothing shall offend them you can talk about me any way you please i'll talk about you down on my knees if you got to talk about somebody talk to jesus about them pray for them lift them up in prayer don't afford yourself the option of getting hurt proverbs 18 19 says a brother offended is harder to be one than a strong city and their contentions are like the bars of a castle don't be touchy don't be so willing to speak your mind don't give people a piece of your mind you can't afford to lose much david was guilty of it psalms 1 16 10. speaking of david he said i believed therefore have i spoken i was greatly afflicted he wasn't offended but he was ticked off i said in my haste all men are liars you ever felt that way you see injured folks pop off and haste and usually exaggerate he was hurt over a single incident he was upset about one thing and he said everybody's liars our flesh will do that we'll get frustrated about something we'll be greatly afflicted about something everybody's crazy you remember the story about the guy that was got a phone call from his wife on the cell phone said honey i just heard on the news that there's some crazy man going the wrong way down the interstate to which he replied said crazy said they're all crazy everybody's going the wrong way you'll find yourself sometimes frustrated don't afford yourself the luxury of getting hurt paul when he appeared before the sanhedrin you remember he was earnestly and boldly contending before the council and he didn't know all the procedures so he just started talking and the high priest ananias commanded them that stood by smite him on the mouth eject his jaws what he did pow paul said to him god shall smite thee thou whited wall for sitteth thou to judge me after the law and command us me to be smitten contrary to the law somebody whispered to him hey you're reviling the high priest he's oh oh he said i knew not that that was the high priest for it's written doubt shalt not speak evil of the ruler of the people my daddy and my uncle taught me something a long time ago they said keep your word sweet sometimes you may have to eat them don't afford yourself the opportunity of popping off and getting somebody told they may pull some book on you if you're not careful they may pull some scripture on you after paul had popped off he realized i need to handle this spiritual way and i i'm not going to read it but paul began saying no i i i need to stop getting in my flesh and and cursing folks he instead he started reading the room he realized he had a room full of pharisees and sadducees they were half and half and he said instead of arguing with the whole bunch he told them he said i'm a pharisee said i'm with you fellers because the pharisees they believed in the resurrection from the dead and the sadducees didn't he suddenly caused them to start arguing amongst themselves the the sadducees said no there's no resurrection pharisees oh yes they are that's what he said and suddenly he found himself he at least had half of the room and before it was over he caused such a tumult between the two he divided them that they had to come and rescue him said get him out of here before they pull him apart later on if you read through that and i'm paraphrasing you can read this in acts 23 for yourself you find out that uh after this dissension took place they pulled him out and that night the lord stood before paul in acts 23 11 he said be of good cheer paul for as thou has testified of me in jerusalem he said what god was saying is you started out bad but i think you got it fixed you did the right thing so must thou bear witness also at rome paul was able to rectify a mistake he made let me draw from that as well for us let me ask you do you know how to accept an apology do you know there's some folks once uh if if you're gonna apologize to them they're gonna make you grovel i didn't say gravel i said grovel they may want you to kneel and gravel i don't know they want you to get oh i'm so sorry i'm so so so so sorry you know 47 souls in front of your sorry if that's gonna make it better be quick to accept an apology when there's a heartfelt apology don't go around holding grudges man you got to have too good a memory man if you got to remember what everybody did you and how they offended you and what they said to you you got to remember too much but when you say you're forgiven after all oh you know what you're doing you're being like jesus isn't that a novel idea i want to be like jesus be quick to accept an apology i believe this is what jesus wanted his disciples to realize in matthew 5 he said this therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar and there remembers that thy brother hath ought against thee leave there that thy gift before the altar go to thy way first be reconciled to thy brother then come and offer thy gift agree with thine adversary quickly oh god help me to be an agreeable person that represents you let me accept an apology lord because i know i'm gonna have to do a lot of apologizing in the future musicians get ready i'm gonna i'm gonna skip some stuff get us where we need to be let me tell you another reason you can get in critical condition is if you've got an infection in yourself spiritually if you've been exposed the latin etymology of the word virus now we all know what you even say virus and everybody's kind of nervous still the etymology of the word virus from latin means slimy liquid poison and stench a virus defined as something that harms interferes with or destroys the captivity progress or welfare of something else spiritually you better be careful not to get a virus to put you in critical condition second corinthians 6 17 said wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate saith the lord and touch not the unclean thing and i will receive you we may need some spiritual quarantining from some stuff you've been handling too much of sins garbage the stuff you've been listening to on your ipod the videos you've been watching on your devices the things you've been watching and listening to in your home or in your vehicle you're viewing entertainment your reading materials the text the tweets that you dwell on and repeat the conversations that you're having no wonder we find ourselves in spiritually critical condition we've been contaminated by sins virus or you've been holding bitterness hebrews 12 15 said looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of god lest any root of bitterness spring up trouble you and thereby many be defiled it's contagious bitterness is contagious let me skip one and leave one another thing that can cause you to be in spiritual condition critical condition is a lack of proper nourishment you're starving to death you got poor church attendance you arrive late and leave early you come for the singing and entertainment value all you want's the dessert but i've got to come to the house of god looking to entertain the presence of the lord rather than to be entertained i didn't come for somebody to entertain me i want to be spiritually mature [Music] hebrews 5 12 said for when for time ye ought to be teachers you ought to be examples we as seasoned saints we ought to be examples to others you have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of god and are become such as have need of milk and not strong meat when you get in spiritual spiritually critical condition man i'm gonna have to put you on a liquid diet gotta get a little milk back in you get get the milk of the word back in yeah i can't be too rough because you're kind of weak right now for everyone that uses milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness for he's a babe but strong meat belongs to them that are full of age i want to have the spiritual nourishment that i don't find myself in critical condition so let me say this i've said a whole lot of negative things about negative stuff and rightfully so but i came today to bring us to this point and let you know no matter your condition we're serving a god can help you recover i've got great news there's recovery from every condition we serve of god you could call us the apostolic icu today if you want to we've got some critical care for you allow me to reintroduce jesus to you let me take you back to jesus let jesus you may need a transfusion you may need the blood the shed blood of jesus to be put back into your spiritual veins and let you flow healthy in christ it's a 24-hour intensive care monitoring treatment the blood of jesus will heal all ills it will heal the lethargic spiritually it will heal the unconscious spiritually if you need immediate in radical attention blood of jesus wants to give you that stand with me [Music] there's one word that i would remind us all of galatians 6 1 said brethren if a man be overtaken in a fault if a man be overtaken in a fault see how many immediate outlets you can post it on in front of anybody else see how many people you can tell about his fault brethren if a man be overtaken in a fault ye which are spiritual now this was is what will give you the vital signs whether you're healthy or you're critical ye which are spiritual restore everybody say restore restore restore such a one in the spirit of meekness considering thyself lest thou also be tempted hear me none of us have got angel wings none of us are all that holy we've all had faults we've all had failures before we start condemning anybody else i want to say oh god let me be a doctor of restoration if there's somebody that's found themselves in critical condition if somebody's been fighting a battle i'm praying god that i can be part of their restoration restore such a one in the spirit of meekness considering myself lest i also be tempted [Music] bear ye one another's burdens hey bro i wanna help you out with that hey sis i'm gonna be your prayer partner i don't need any details i just know you're going through something and i want to be your prayer partner bear you one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of christ for if any man think himself to be something when he's nothing he deceiveth himself [Music] hallelujah i want us to do this in a spirit of restoration i want to open this altar to everybody in this house whatever you have need of if you need restoration or you want to help somebody be restored i want us to step out and make our way
