come on let's give that hand clap to the lord this evening come on if we could can we lift our hands in the house of the lord this evening i feel the sweet beautiful presence of the lord in this place and i believe god is going to do something here for the next few moments come on if we can lift our voice without the aid of any music without the aid of any song can we believe that god can do something in this place tonight hallelujah hallelujah come on let's just put god where he deserves to be and that is high and lifted up hallelujah jesus we put you in your place lord you are our king lord you sit upon the throne lord and your train fills the temple lord every victory that you ever won in our life god it symbolizes and you're the train of your old lord we believe you can do a great work tonight let's clap our hands in this place jesus we love you lord thank you god thank you lord someone say in jesus name in jesus name it is such a tremendous honor to stand before the greatest people in all the world and get to open up my bible and to preach to the greatest people in all the world i don't i don't take this privilege this this opportunity lightly and it's one of my highest honors to preach to the greatest group on god's green earth and i do mean that this evening i want to tell a quick story on my mother since she uh was telling some some things on me uh pastor carpenter was was preaching today and a story came to my mind about our devotion time growing up and uh she she kind of caught on to um which sister erickson has been like 25 years old since she was 10 so she you know so um it was me and it was me and sister hammond and i remember we were sitting there and mom opened up in with bible reading and of course what pastor said sometimes it was one scripture and then we would go into prayer and those were my favorite days because you could really you know mom's not going to tell you hey you need to pray you know a couple more minutes and so if it was a seven or eight minute prayer you know doing good i can sneak away while my mom's travailing there on the couch and so you know an escape for the day but then she caught on to this so she switched it up she said we're gonna pray before we read our bible i remember me and lauren looking at each other and like 45 minutes later we finally get to the scripture and we finally read something after after prayer so the days that we read our bible first those were my fleshly favorite days and so i give her great honor thank you for that introduction i give honor to our pastor and he is one of my best friends in the entire world it's an honor to stand in his pulpit tonight and then i give honor to my best friend in the entire world my wife and i want to give her tremendous honor tonight if you'd be so kind to turn with me to joshua 1 and 1 says now after the death of moses the servant of the lord it came to pass that the lord spake unto joshua the son of nun moses is minister saying moses my servant is dead now therefore our eyes go over this jordan thou and all this people and unto the land which i do give unto them even to the children of israel every place that the soul of your foot shall tread upon that i will give unto you as i said unto moses as this is the beginning of the ministry of joshua this is a pretty incredible start to a ministry to say that the same thing that i promised to a an older generation i promise to you joshua that wherever your soul that the your foot would shred upon that i will give to you my goal tonight is simple the goal is to remind us that if we are on god's side we are on the side of victory if we're on god's side we're on the side of victory we are promised we are guaranteed the victory if we are on the right side of the battle and i also want to remind us tonight that even though it is an old promise that what what matters to us on that is that it's still a promise if something was promised to moses even though he didn't see it come to pass in his day another generation stepped into that promise because god has never lied if you would be so kind to just help me preach for just a few moments on our view of victory our view on victory you put your bibles down you lift your hands you lift your hearts to heaven you ask god to touch us tonight i believe someone can leave victorious in this place god i ask that you would help me for the next few minutes god to release the bird and that i feel that you have given me for your people lord if you would anoint me god to break the yokes through your word lord i give you all the praise all the glory and all the honor lord in the next few minutes got at least one time let your presence be in this place god let it be undeniable that the spirit of the lord is in this house god and we give you all the praise all the glory and all the honor and someone say in jesus name and now would you clap your hands in this place if you believe that god is going to do a work in this house lord we love you jesus come on could there be a triumphal shout in this place that arises from god's people that arises from the people of god in this place there is victory in this place i'm going to go ahead and declare in faith that there is victory in this house that someone could leave victorious through the name of jesus come on if you believe that just for a few more moments can we clap our hands in this place jesus we thank you lord hallelujah hallelujah someone say in jesus name in jesus name you may be seated the book of joshua opens up with the transition transition from moses to joshua and god begins instructing joshua on what he is about to do joshua and the israelites have have gone from being slaves in a strange land to wandering in the wilderness and now that moses is dead and god gone god looks to joshua and says you are going to lead a bunch of people to the land that i have given them it's important that we realize here in the the opening chapters of joshua god is simply trying to change their view on victory there is a mindset that we must have spiritually to recognize that god has all power that god has all authority and it all starts with their mindset this land of canaan is the promised promised land and we must make sure that we use this in the proper sense this is not a type of heaven because there are giants there there are walls there there are enemies to fight there this is a place where there are constant battles and if you don't continue to fight you will lose what is promised to you this is a promised land that you have to fight for so when we read these scriptures you'll notice that god is trying to change their view on victory for the last hundreds and hundreds of years they've been slaves and wanderers and now god says i want you to be conquerors this was a complete mindset change for the people of god let's go to joshua 1 and verse number 2. moses my servant is dead now therefore arise go over this jordan thou and all this people into the land which i do give to them here's a mindset change even to the children of israel every place that the soul of your foot shall tread upon that have i given unto you as i said to motus moses you'll you'll notice here that god starts to to work on joshua god starts to work on joshua and the people of israel he says the land which i do give them every place that the soul of your foot shall tread upon that is what i'm going to give to you this word tread here in the hebrew me is derock and this does not mean having uh some flip-flops on walking down the beach and you just believe that the sand between your toes god's going to give you a beachfront property it's not what this means at all but this has to do not with flip-flops but it has to do with war boots completely change of mindset here this word literally means to take up your weapons and fight god was speaking to joshua and the israelite people saying that every place that you fight for i will give it to you how about that promise god isn't going to do something for us that we aren't willing to fight for if we are willing to fight for it us being the children of god god has promised us that we will have it if we're willing to fight for it if we're willing to give it all we have if we are willing to fight for something god will give it to us but we have to fight for it numbers 33 and 51 says speaking to the children of israel say unto them when you are passed over jordan in the land of canaan then shall you drive all the inhabitants out of the land from before you and destroy all their pictures destroy all their molten images and quiet pluck down all their high places and ye shall disposes the inhabitants of the land and dwell therein for i have given you the land to possess it god is saying if you will fight for it i will give it to you if you would be willing to to put your foot in the ground and stand your ground and just know that i have given you this land if you'd be willing to fight for it i'll give it to you now numbers 33 is not spoken to joshua but it's spoken to moses the promise made to joshua is an old promise that was made to moses and israel is about to transition into a brand new experience in israel is in the same place that we here in maryville stand today we are on the threshold of a new experience we are on the threshold i know we just came out of revival but god is putting this church on the brink of a new revival it's old promises that god has given us about a bible center a bible training center and god is transitioning us here tonight to believe and know that if we will fight for it god will give it to us it may be a promise from years ago but if we would be willing to set our shoulders back put our foot in the ground i know we just came out a little bit of fighting you can look around this took a lot but if we would be willing to fight god would give us more because we're on the verge of something new god is raising us here up a church here in maryville that if we're willing to fight for it god will give it to us and it might might require a little bit of more sacrifice but if we're willing to sacrifice god will give it to us god will give it to us we remember here that the israelites are about to transition into a brand new experience but god is changing their view on victory god is changing their view their focus on victory joshua 3 and 3 says and they commanded the people when you see the ark of the covenant of the lord your god and the priests the levites bearing it then you shall remove from your place and go after it yet there shall be a space between you and it about two thousand cubits by measure come not near unto it that ye may know the way by which you must go for ye have not passed this way heretofore this is this is going to be a place that you've never been before and joshua said unto the people sanctify yourselves for tomorrow the lord will do wonders among you it's as god says to go after it this is talking about the leading of the lord if you'll follow the presence of god if you will follow israelites if you'll follow the ark of the covenant you're going to be led to places that you've never been before you're going to experience victory like you've never experienced before i know you just came out of a season of time where you didn't have a place to call your own but i am about to lead you to a place where you're about to have land for yourself you're about to have a new victory you're about to have a new victory if you'll just have the right focus and the right view on victory this church has been in a season for quite some time we are following the leading of the lord we're following the holy ghost and we're following our pastor being led by the holy ghost and we are about to transition to a time where god is going to give us the land i just believe it through the eyes of faith today that we are on the brink of something it's about here you can see it over the horizon that if we will recognize what god is doing god is going to give us the land god is going to give us the old promises that has been made to us but it doesn't come without a little fight if we're not willing to fight for it then we will not obtain the victory i know it's an old promise but it's still a promise and god wants to just focus our view on victory transitions are difficult but they are necessary if we want to be where god has called us to be the people of israel have been landless for nearly 500 years 500 years they haven't had a place to call their own they have been beaten by egyptians and they've been wandering around around in the wilderness and now god looks around at he looks them square in the eyes a bunch of slave wanderers and says take the land it's a change in mindset they couldn't think like slaves and they couldn't act like uh wanderers for far too long but now they're supposed to act like warriors this is the promised land at this point in their history god begins to transition his people from wanderers and slaves to conquering warriors wandering and bondage have been in their dna for five centuries this is all they have known to this point and god is changing their view on victory i'll say it once i'll say it again you cannot act like wonders and think like slaves and be conquerors at the same time it's impossible god's trying to change their view i know you've been in some bondage for a season of time i know you've been wandering around in the wilderness thinking where are we in the world are we going but god has a land for us that he has promised us and if we would be willing to fight for it god will give it to us god will give us the land god will give us our wildest dreams if they're on his on his side god will give us the things that he has promised us amen we aren't fighting in battles of bondage of sin anymore we aren't fighting old battles that the whips of egypt is over our head beating our backs if we don't complete the job but tonight we're going to focus on victory take the land god says to his people god looks to a bunch of slaves and bunch of wanderers and says take the land take the land it's yours i've promised it to you i don't know if if you have any old promises in your life that you feel like god has maybe forgotten about you and you just think that's just something maybe i misheard god or i misunderstood god it's just an old promise what matters to you is that it's still a promise even though moses they didn't see it moses in his day did not see them walk into the promised land there was another generation that took hold of an old promise given to an old generation and they said that promise hasn't been fulfilled and if we can just act like conquerors we can take the land we can take the land we can take what it's promised us it is ours it's our land i got to change my view on victory i know i've been bound for some time i know i've been in bondage for quite some time now but it's time for us to go to the land of promise to the land of promise joshua 1 and 5 says there shall not any man be able to stand before thee at all all the days of thy life as i was with moses so i will be with thee i will not fail thee nor forsake thee god is reminding joshua that i was with a previous generation and now i promise you that i will be with you i have an extreme problem with people who say that god isn't doing miracle signs and wonders anymore i have extreme problem with people who who say that or who who state that and if that would be true then god would not be the same yesterday he would not be the same today and god would not be the same forevermore i have an extreme problem with somebody because the bible says that if god was with another generation that god would be with the joshua generation and i have an extreme problem with people who say that god did more for the elders or the other generation than he's doing in this generation because he says as i was with moses so i will be with you joshua i'm so glad that i'm serving the god of previous generations i'm serving the god that provided for the trendsetters i'm serving a god that gave them food when they didn't have money to buy food but i've got news for you today that god is still working on a new generation that god is still providing miracles through a new generation it might look a little bit different but my god is the same yesterday today and forevermore if we will begin to fight for it god will show himself strong in this place amen amen god is the same verse number six be strong and of good courage for unto this people shalt doubt divide for an inheritance the land which i swear unto their fathers to give them only be thou strong and very courageous that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law which moses my servant commanded thee turn not from the right nor to or not not from it to the right hand or to the left hand that thou mayest prosper whether soever thou goest this book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and thou shalt have good success this whole passage here is stating god's stating to joshua if you follow the law of moses if you'll follow what's been passed down to you and if you'll keep those ways and don't go don't step to the left don't stop don't don't don't get away from what you've been taught just an inch or two if you will keep those commandments and you'll meditate on them then you'll your ways will be prosperous and you will have good success if all joshua had to do is follow in the footsteps of what he's been taught in my generation all we have to do we've been handed down some pretty good law we've been handing down some good stuff we've been handed down some good teaching we don't need to to go away from it just an inch to the left or an inch to the right because if we do our ways will not be successful but we are promised in scripture this is the view on victory if you put that word and you put it in your heart and you live by it and you breathe it you eat it you sleep it then the bible says you will be successful your ways will be prosperous there's no stopping you there's no devil in hell that can come against you because you're standing upon the word of god blessings are in this book this is not a harsh book but this is a good book blessings are in this good this book success is in this book victory is in this book my ways will be prosperous if i obey this book you may be seated all joshua and the israelites had to do was follow the law of moses and the word of the lord if we fast forward a few chapters and we'll get back to where we're at but if you fast forward a few chapters from that point after the battle of jericho tremendous success obviously took place in the eyes of israel something falling before their eyes and they're just when success comes there's always temptation and when aiken took of the accursed thing and a babylonian babylonian garment after that the israelites went to battle it was a small battle they should have wiped it they didn't even send all their guys they it was a no-brainer they were they were huge favorites in the battle here but then 36 men lost their life and joshua is so distraught he goes before god pleading and god basically says son what are you doing it's simple you'll have victory if israel follows my commandments and follows my law and so he he starts to he brings all the people before him and then he goes to the tribes go through the families and aiken comes and in his tent is buried some of the things that are accursed and bap in a babylonious garment you can look and you can see how prosperous that this church has been you can see how god is provided for us in unthinkable ways you can look at a building that is beautiful and magnificent and thank god it is paid for but we'll do what will destroy this place so easily is if this place has an ounce of worldliness in it it doesn't matter if it's just an ounce of worldliness that was enough for israel to lose 36 men and what will destroy this church will what will destroy the success that god has given us is just an ounce of a babylonious garment it's just an ounce of thinking that we've got it all together just announce of thinking that this is about me and this is about you but we've got to keep the law keep worldliness out because we're promised the victory if we have no worldliness and keep god's law amen joshua 2 2 and 8. this opens this the second chapter of joshua god's still working on their mindset and it's amazing what god uses to to change the people's mindset it joshua two and eight says and and this this picture here is is the spies are in rahab's house and it opens up here and it says and before they were laid down she came unto them upon the roof and she said unto them the men here's their view on victory here's the view on victory god wants to show them i know that the lord hath given you the land this point therein rahab's house does not look like god has given them the land and that your terror is falling upon us that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you for we have heard how the lord dried up the water of the red sea for you when you came out of egypt what you did unto the two kings of the amorites that were on the other side of jordan scion and og wow who who named these kids whom ye utterly destroyed as soon as we heard these things our hearts did melt neither did there remain any more courage in any man because of you for the lord your god he is god in heaven above and earth beneath god's trying to change their view on victory and i was reading this yesterday and it dawns on me none of those things happened under the leadership of joshua they all happen under the leadership of an older generation i'm encouraged of what god has done in a previous generation i'm encouraged how god provided for you i'm encouraged of how god gave you gave you finances when there was no means of finances coming in i'm encouraged by all that but i will declare that something is going to happen in the the generation of joshua like it happened in the generation of moses god is not done working god has not brought us to the place that he that's all he's going to do for us but if we will keep on fighting if we'll keep on pushing if we'll keep on fighting if we'll keep on treading god will give us victory if we step back that's all the victory god's going to give us but if we keep on walking keep on treading keep on fighting then god will give us what is promised god has given us what is promised joshua 2 and 24 they go back to the camp and their mindset on victory has come completely changed and they go to joshua they're so excited they say truly the lord had delivered into our hands all the land for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us i know israelites that you think you're a bunch of slaves you think you're a bunch of wanderers but the enemy thinks all along that you're a bunch of conquerors so the world the world is scared of what is happening in this place we can look down on ourselves that we're outnumbered in this city but you got to look through the eyes of the adversary that sees a bunch of conquerors in this place that sees the promises of god that everywhere your foot is going to tread everywhere you're going to step if you would fight for it if you would walk into your job and just know that if i tread my foot in my job site god is going to give me this mission field if i'd be willing to fight in my job god will give me the victory in this land but you can't be a slave and you can't be a wanderer and be a conqueror at the same time just does not work god is changing their view on victory now we fast forward they take the presence of god over the jordan river on dry land they set up stones there as a memorial and as they were about to possess the land that god had given them something interesting takes place joshua 5 13. and it came to pass when joshua was by jericho that he lifted up his eyes and looked and behold there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand and joshua went unto him and said unto him art thou for us or for our adversaries and he said nay but as captain of the host of the lord am i now come and joshua fell on his face to the earth and did worship and said unto him what saith my lord unto his servant and the captain of the lord's host said unto joshua loose thy shoe from off thy foot for the place whereon thou standest is holy and joshua did so this sounds pretty familiar this sounds pretty familiar but it wasn't good enough for moses to have a moment at a burning bush where he had to take off his shoes but joshua the next generation had to have a holy moment with god because every generation there has to be a holy moment that you begin to get rid of things that are not necessary because you're getting closer to god there is a moment in my generation that we're going to have to strip away some things that are not necessary we're going to have to strip away some things i know it happened for other generations where they made convictions and they made standards against things because they felt like they were getting closer to god but that's not good enough i've got to have a holy moment where i'm getting closer to god and i say it's not good enough that it was for my parents but it has to be good enough for me if this is holy ground i'm going to take up my shoes i'm going to i'm going to remove myself of some things because i know i'm standing on holy ground every generation must have that decision in their mind if they want to possess the victory there has to be a moment of sacrifice there has to be a moment of sacrifice and a generation if victory is to come it wasn't good enough for moses joshua didn't would just go off of an older generation's experience but he had to have something for himself he had to strip himself of of some things this is this is what you require god this is what i'm going to give you for this place i am at is holy this place where you do stand is holy joshua took off his shoes he removed his he removed something from himself that wasn't necessary for him to be able to be in that holy place and as i think and and and i i've told people this before but sometimes i i i feel like a a spiritual spoiled brat because a a little bit of my upbringing now you know sister erickson was born a time where this church was was struggling my parents would go out to to just bring a little bit of fine just kind of help on the financially and they would preach and and lauren sister hammond grew up in a time where the church was still it found a little bit of success and but the church was still not to where it is now and i was born in the middle of success i was a spiritual spoiled brat i was i was in a building that i hadn't sacrificed for i was in revival i i watched i watched people get the holy ghost i didn't have to pray for that to happen but now we're at a place where what god is going to do next is going to have to come through sacrifice of my generation brother chandler you given a thousand dollars sacrificially that's what it's going to take for us to get to the land that god has promised us i know trendsetters you sacrificed for this building i know you prayed for this building i know you gave when it didn't make sense to give in the crash of the economy but an older younger generation was looking up to you and saying when it's my time to possess the land i'm gonna fight for it when it's my time to walk into the land that god has promised us if my shoes got to come up my shoes have got to come up if i'm going to strip myself i'm going to strip myself of unnecessary things but i'm going to sacrifice to see the victory come i'm going to sacrifice for a new land it's what it's going to take i feel the holy ghost to this place right now hallelujah jesus i feel the holy ghost god is we're on the brink of something great but it's going to be the combination of an older and a younger generation that we sacrifice to see what god has for us i know we just got out of the time of sacrifice and i know we just got out of that season but if we just want to stop right here that's all that god will give us but if we continue to fight if we continue to push if we continue to tread god will give us victory god will give us what he promised us god will give us a new land every generation must have this holy moment of removing unnecessary things because you're getting closer to the lord this is the last few scriptures before they get to this great battle of jericho this brings us to joshua chapter 6 verse number 1. now jericho was straightly shut up because of the children of israel none went out and none came in why does this say this this scripture that the city was completely shut off because they were in fear of the people that were coming they were in fear of the people of god verse number 2 says and the lord said unto joshua see i have given unto thine hand jericho and the king thereof and the mighty men of valor god is still working on how they view victory because at this point all they see is just big walls before them it doesn't look like god has given them the victory matter of fact what they see with their fleshly eyes god has not given us this land of yet but god is saying are you going to believe what you see are you going to believe in what i said it's a big difference it's the mindset change or we will we believe what we see with our fleshly eyes or or will we believe god's promises that he made to us joshua six and five and i i think this is pretty interesting and and it says and it should come to pass that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn when ye hear the sound of the trumpet all the people shall shout with a great shout and the city in the wall of the city shall fall down flat and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him brother hammond can you run me that trumpet underneath you there i made the bad decision one time to tease my father and say that i knew how to blow this trumpet when in fact i did not know how to blow this trumpet i hope you don't remember that we took that off the webcast but amen so that was a few months ago but this trumpet this trumpet here is one that is very unique the israelites used tif two different types of trumpets they they used one that was made of silver and they used one that was made of ram's horn the silver trumpet was used especially by priests to signal that something important was happening such as declaring of war that's what they would use the silver trumpets for but the rams horn was used for celebrations the common hebrew word for trumpet is shofar for rand's horn it's joble which is the root word of jubilee the jubilee was the 50th year and it was a special celebration time in israel and we can look back at leviticus 25 and 9 and see where this this trumpet comes from then shalt thou cause the trumpet of jubilee this this ram's horn it's the trumpet of jubilee to sound the on the tenth day of the seventh month in the day of atonement shall you make the trumpet sound through all your land and ye shall hallow the 50th year to proclaim liberty throughout all the land until all the unto all the inhabitants thereof it shall be a jubal unto you and ye shall return every man unto his possessions and ye shall return every man and to his family the priest didn't use the silver trumpets of declaring war in the battle of jericho it's simply because israel was not declaring war on jericho for there was no war the israelites were announcing the arrival of a celebration they knew they that god was proving to them through six chapters that if you have the right mindset you don't have to announce war we're not declaring war but god's people were declaring victory when they grabbed those trumpets this was a sign of victory they blew those trumpets knowing they celebrated before something happened they they blew those trumpets in celebration knowing that if god has given us this land we're going to go ahead and celebrate it we're going to go ahead and shout we're going to go ahead and celebrate because god has given us the victory we are here to declare war but we're here to say that we're already on the side of victory if you are a child of god you don't have to declare war on sickness you just have to have victory in healing if you need deliverance in this place you don't have to attack war on sin but all you have to do is declare victory in deliverance i don't know if there's anybody who needs something in this place but whatever you need god has already done the work that it takes for you to be healed for you to be delivered so why don't we go ahead and celebrate because god has already done the work god has already done the work that it takes for your healing god took stripes upon his back for your healing the work's already done if you just have the view on victory that god wants you to have then you'll see the victory then you'll see the victory i know it looks like there's walls of jericho in your life i know it looks like there's no way that you could take that battle in your life but if you would look how god sees it god has already given jericho into your hand god already has those stripes on his back for your healing you're just gonna have the right view on victory so you have one option you can sit there and act like you're in bondage or you can be able to celebrate of what god is going to do because you realize that god has already done the work god's already done the work we are not victims when you have the right view on victory you are victors through christ jesus i'm going to read it for you again i feel the gift of faith in this house joshua six and two he's looking at those walls of jericho and it says and the lord said unto joshua see i have given jericho into thy hand and the king thereof and the mighty man of balor everything has already been done for victory but all you got to do is you just got to begin to fight for it you just got to begin to fight for it how they fought for it they follow followed the the leading of the presence of god they begin to obey what was commanded of them and it took repetition it took repetition they showed up seven days in a row it didn't just happen on the first day and i know you might think that i've been praising for a healing for far too long it just takes a little bit of repetition it takes a little bit of repetition but then we're tonight we're going to declare victory i'm not here to declare war but i'm here to realize that victory is for us victory is for us i'm not declaring war i'm declaring victory you don't have to fight for healing because you're already on the side of healing so whatever your modern day jericho is know that your battle is already won if your battle is your lost family know that your battle is already won if your battle is a lost prodigal know that you're on the side of victory if your battle is you live in a broken family jesus being the ultimate problem solver know that your battle is already won hallelujah jesus jesus has risen to spiritual authority and he has shared that authority with us tonight that's why we're able to celebrate victory and not declare war i don't know if there's anybody here in this place tonight but you're looking at a modern-day jericho in your life you're looking at great big walls and the word of faith is sea i've given those walls i've
