And we have done so many different points of greater. We've got a couple of more, October, November, December will come here in just a bit. We've been talking about personal revival. Everybody say revival. We discovered uh on our first session talking about calling, the purpose of an individual's calling. Uh I I think that we have to understand, as we established a couple weeks ago, calling um in ministry does not, listen carefully, does not always mean you will pound the pulpit, you will get paid big bucks, and you'll play golf every week. I'm not sure what that calling is, but it has nothing to do with that. Everyone, when you receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and you're baptized in the name of Jesus and he begins to work in your life, something begins to transpire in you. Your spirit, your heart, your desires. That's why when the Holy Ghost comes and and baptism and the sins are washed away, what changes in your life? Anybody? What changes? Yeah, what else? What else? Uh everything. I mean, honestly, you know, you change how you see things, uh how you interact with others. There's an incredible powerful change that can only come through the spirit of God working in a person's life. Has anybody here ever experienced that? Yeah, so you know you were not who you were. Now, your name may be the same, and you may still uh not have hair or have hair, or you may still have uh be 6'2 or like the normal people Um but, something changed in you. The name of Jesus is applied, and now there is a power that works in your life. Having said that, the calling, we talked about that. God put something in you, gave you something to do, and he is asking and requiring that you move into that faith. Last week, Brother Sam continued and talked about what? Anybody remember? Constitution. Calling was the week before. The Constitution. What is that? I'm just trying to see if y'all are listening. What is a const- the Constitution? The what? We In order to form a more perfect union. Yeah, what what is Constitution? What is your Constitution? Drive. Perfect. What else? Your what? There you go. Your makeup. Yeah, how you're built as an individual. Somebody else. What? Your personality. Great. What else? What is your constitution? Okay, beliefs. We'll take it. One more. Somebody else. Yes. Character works. The fact is is that the gifts, talents, likes, dislikes, your your your personality, the things that you are involved with, the calling you have, God knows what you are what you're made of. Agreed? And then he also knows that the work that he's doing in you is establishing your constitution. Your your your your beliefs, if you will. How how your character interacts with the call. How you are in a place now that things of God are showing themselves and you're allowing them to work. How How many are thankful that the Holy Ghost doesn't leave you at night? Why? Peace. Yeah, we need that. What else? How many are thankful that you don't box it up and put it on a shelf? Why? You'd forget to carry it out the next day, indeed. Okay, how many are thankful that when the Holy Ghost is working in your life, you can actually feel and see and sense the change? It is doing something to you. If you for an example, before you came to know the Lord and before he forgave you of your sins and filled you with the gift of the Holy Ghost, you may have been very driven to be jealous. You may have been very driven to be prideful. You may have been a driven person and your character was to be very very brash and harsh with people. But then the peace of the Holy Ghost comes in and the joy of the Lord comes in and something changes in your ability to communicate in the things that you do, right? Your constitution changes. Now, stay with me. Tonight, we're going to continue down this vein, talking again about the purpose that all of us have in revival. I need to reestablish again tonight revival greater revival on the screen is not a series of services where an evangelist comes in and says and does and does cool stuff. We are in the context of talking about personal revival. I will say what I said 2 weeks ago when I was teaching this class. Just because listen carefully do not misquote me nor misunderstand me. Just because you come to church and you sing in the corral or you play an instrument or you make sure the kids are taken care of or teach a class. That does not mean you're doing everything that you're purpose to do to do for God. Okay, aside from the things your light should shine before men. You are salt. Those are things that we need to revive in us. Listen carefully. There was a season in our nation and our culture that a most folk were very nervous about demonstrating or expressing their faith. There was a time and it hasn't been that many years ago. People were afraid that they would not be ready for it politically correct. Why? What happened? Yeah, that there was a there was a few that began to to speak really loud and found a microphone that somebody would give them and begin to present to the world that everybody needs to be quiet and separation of church and state and all these things. So the political if you will not just Republican Democrat independent of that that's the politically correct said, okay man, you can't offend anybody, so don't talk about your religion outside of your home or your church." And that was a mindset that swept our nation. There were folk here at our church. Man, I I I don't want to say something to them because I'll lose my job. And it was probably very possible that that could have happened, and it maybe did in some cases. But it's interesting then we are now in 2026, and people are praying everywhere of some flavor. I mean, they're they're even now glamorized for it. So-and-so baseball player kneels at the home plate and prays. Such-and-such NFL team doesn't take the field until they pray. Anybody notice this happening? You know, we we have we have leaders in national offices now that say, "We're going to declare next week a a week of prayer. We're going to declare this. We're going to pray about this." Uh something has changed. What has changed? Help me, somebody. What do you think's changed in our in our culture? I'm sorry, everybody's talking at once. I can't hear. An awareness some on some level of awareness of needing God. God has one more time entered the picture. Is that fair? And they're aware of that. What else? Again, please, not everybody at once. Just They're allowing things to Go ahead. Give me 12 Give me 12-second definition of so bad, please. Your your point of view. Keep going. Everything that she Is everybody agree? What did she just mention in 11 seconds? Sorry. Thank you for giving me a second. What Everything she just mentioned is true, right? What did she just mention though? What is the What is the surroundings of what she just meant What is that that she just mentioned about? Keep what Deeper. Keep going. There you go. It's all against the the design of God. Every one of them. Every one of them. All right? Because the enemy has always done that. Re- Re- rewind. Of this garden, you have all things. You name the animals, you have access to anything, but the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And what did the enemy go to? And what? He what? He took what God said, which was right, and So, have we learned anything about the enemy? He has one weapon. And that's that. That's why he is the father of lies. He lie. He He takes into Okay, y'all with me? Calling constitution. Tonight, we're going to talk about our context. So, what does it mean in your personal context? Let's Let's go there. I'll watch the clock. We're okay. Personal What is your personal context? Okay, we'll take that. What else? Your context. Okay, very good. Your surround. You must have cheated, right, and read this. Yeah. Breeze only typed this up for me. What else? She's trying to hold silent here cuz she got all the answers. What what else? Your context. In in a sense, that would probably be more your constitution cuz that's about you. Your context. Environment. Analyze what? In in what way? Help me with that. Just look little little further. The world around you? Okay, we'll take it. Here Here's the thing about context. Is every single one of us have a calling, a constitution, and a context. So, here we go. Where you are right now is your context. You are in this surrounding, this environment. You are seeing, hearing, you're in interacting here. In this location, in this room, sitting in that chair, if you are sitting Follow me. If you are sitting in a black folding chair, raise your hand. That's the reason we did all these the same so nobody could be left out. No, I'm joking. There is something about the call of God in your life, how God made you, your constitution, but then where you are. Because here's the thing about where you are. Many times the enemy will trick you and tell you that there is greener grass over the septic tank. No, he won't say it that way. Um there is greener grass on the other side. Often humanity says, "I just need a change in my location, my surrounding, and I think that I would do better here or there or over there." Is Is ever true? Sure, absolutely. That's not a bad thought. It is not though, listen carefully pastor, it is not the only thought. Okay? Do you as an individual ever wish for other things? A a different something. Is that okay? That's a question. In what context is that okay? But how would you know that except you try? Well, now you're in motion. All right? Okay, without looking around and without elbowing your neighbor, without looking and say, "I told you, that's you, that's you." Do you know people on planet Earth, we'll start there, that are always have to have the latest and greatest, the best and foremost, they can't they're not satisfied with this, they're always looking for that. Don't I told you not to smile, some of y'all are in so much trouble right now. They're always trying to you know, they can't settle for the iPhone they have to have the iPhone they can't drive a 2025 car because uh so 5 minutes ago uh they have to have the 27 model. Okay? Is there anything wrong Tell me what might be wrong with that? Discontentment and always looking What else? Why Why is it greed? You shouldn't want anything. No, that's not what she said. That's not what she said. So, it's not a bad thing to want things, but y'all ready for it? You might want to write this down, motive matters. If your motive is to be the top of the list, number one, I can assure you you are not. You are not. There's always someone that's number one-er. Number one. More more one. There is no place or ministry location that is free from issues. There's always going to be something. There's always going to be, follow me please, imperfections. No church is perfect. Allow me. No family is perfect. Allow me. You're not perfect. Now, you can shout that if you want. Elbow your neighbor says, "You, he talking to you right now." Yeah. Here's the thing about it. Um sometimes because of our constitution, we are always looking for something else and we are bored with the so-so, same old same old. You know, when when I was I used to get my haircut at this barber shop and I'd say, "How's it going?" I'd say, "So-so." And the old guy would say, "Same old same old." And I'd say, "Yeah." I didn't know that's what that meant. Same old same old. Listen carefully. Familiarity breeds contempt. Because if you're familiar with something, it becomes the same same same same same. It's amazing to me and again, this is this is just me cuz I'm the one teaching. I get to say these things. My wife and I are soon to celebrate 40 years of marriage. And I tell people that and they just blow a gasket. How's that possible? Couldn't Yeah, I I had I heard you the other day I was 46. I was 46. Some 92-year-old man said it, no joke. Here's the thing. How can that be? Why? Because the normal has bred contempt. And if you're going to stay with somebody any length of time, for you old-timers in here, what are you going to have to learn how to do with your spouse? Do what? Fight it out. What I didn't hear what you said. Work. I thought my my ass had drank. You're going to have to work it out. What does that actually mean? Communicate. Keep going. Compromise. What else? Listen. What else? For Oh, somebody Oh, somebody Oh, that's church right there. What else? Be patient. Come on. What What are you guys talking? What are these words coming out of your mouth? And it sounds almost like fruit of Isn't it amazing God knows that we need that cuz our stinky fruit's not good for nothing. So, he says, "Let me put the Holy Ghost in you and this fruit of the spirit now will begin to show." Follow me for a moment. If familiarity breeds contempt, meaning if it's always the same old thing, sometimes boredom uh sometimes um there's no excitement or thrill, maybe. Uh again, I'm just talking in life. And sometimes you can actually become very uncomfortable in a comfortable situation. Uh is there anything wrong with being in the same place for the entirety of your life? Is there anything right with that? You answer so generic. If that's what the Lord, yeah. That's what we all want to think, right? But the truth is is guys, if you've got a call of God and you've got what he's put in you, your constitution, then the context is what are you doing where you are? And are you okay with that? Because if you're not, listen carefully, the enemy can sneak in and begin to twist the words that God gave to you and in so doing you begin to believe a lie and you begin to have contempt in your life, bitterness can set in, male intent can set in, and then you can decide, listen carefully, y'all listening? If I just show up to church that ought to be enough. And you may never say those words, but your actions will scream them. Understand me? That's why, if I may, but Sam and I felt so passionately about this month talking about revival in ourselves. God help us to get past the familiarity of this day in and day out. Help us to find a love and a passion one more time for what you have called us to do as individuals. The season is sure. There's going to be seasons in your life, but change can come. Has anybody ever planted a garden? Absolutely. And what happened in that garden? You worked really, really hard, plowed, scratched, dug, put seeds in the ground and lo and behold, what happened 60-plus days later? You may have or it may have died or you may be a terrible gardener and all that. We're not going to talk about that. The fact is is you understand there's a season of planting and a season of harvest. Here's the advice that I would give to all of us. Take notes in your season. Take notes in your season. I've I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm having the I Again, I'll admit, my wife and I are soon to celebrate 40. We are empty nesters. And we love it. In fact, we downsized and we're now living in a motor home where you have two people can breathe. And we take turns with the oxygen. And we're just fine with it. The one that's causing the issues is the little guy on the floor. I'm sorry. Just digress. With a little fuzzy man on the floor. Here's the thing. I say all the time to my children that my kids that have kids, you better not blink. Why do I say that? Cuz it goes and it's done and your season changes. Huh? That's just in life. If Which one? Oh, is she Is she driving? Is she hunting Easter eggs? All right, so all stay with me. Nobody knows. Sam's going to find out. All right. There are times in your life, listen careful, when your context will change. Right? You'll get a new job, move, family, season, the context will change. And it might be that there will come a time in your calling and in your ministry that something is going to have to change because you're getting older. Um something happens in your health, something happens at the location where you're planted. But the lessons in the seasons of life that come to you for a purpose. If we will learn them, there is a reason that the Bible says that he works everything out for our good. To those that love him, that are the called. That's funny, it's in this lesson. He knows how to do those things. But sometimes we will not allow the good to work because we're afraid to let go or we're afraid to grab on. Now, there's a lot of times that we have sung this song. When I was growing up, we used to sing, "Where you lead me, I will follow. Where he leads me, I will This is a hard one, ready for it? Where he leads me, I will follow with you. With you. All the Have anybody sung that and mean it meant it? And then the Lord said, "All right, I need you to go and do this." You go And you just sang this song. And now you're standing there going, "Wait a minute. What do you mean abal abachata? I don't even know where that is." Or whatever the place is, or whatever the person is, or whatever the location is. Here's the thing. If God tells you, calls you, says to you, "I need you to go." Would you be willing to go? Anybody? If you would be willing to go, raise your hand. Doesn't matter where. You trust God enough. Hold on, leave leave your hand up. Watch watch this lesson. Leave your hand up. It appears we have a lot of experienced people in here. At whatever level. Right? Here's one. What if God told you to stay and grow? Would you stay and grow? It takes the same fortitude and determination to get up and move as it does to say I'm staying right here in my context and God is going to bless me here. Go to Anybody want to use the Bible tonight? This is Bible lesson. Let's go to Hebrews. We'll read all of it. No. But we'll go there. Hebrews chapter number 13. I trust that you brought your Bible or at least a phone that simulates one. Hebrews chapter 13. Watch Watch what this says. Now this is very very familiar verse. Don't don't get it out of context. Somebody read loud voice. Hebrews 13 and 17. Please. Obey them. Okay, go. Whoever. Obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourselves. Stop. Sister Pam, you can pick up from there. Nobody's offended. Go ahead. For they watch for your souls as they that must give account that they may do it with joy. Stop. Michelle, go ahead. And not with grief, for that is unprofitable for you. So Hebrews, anybody know that man, the letter to the Hebrews is so incredibly cool. There are so many incredible lessons here. Obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourselves for they watch for your souls. They have to give an account. That they those that are over you, those that are ruling they may do it with joy and not with grief. Okay? Here's the thing about submitting to those that are over you. And that's what the Bible says. You translate as you want to. The Bible does not say this. Obey them that have the rule over you, {comma} if it suits you. Why doesn't it say it that way? Why didn't the author of to the Hebrews say it that way? Cuz they probably wouldn't do it. Possibly. What else? What else? All authority is ordained by God. Okay, but then why why then did he say this in this context and not if it you agree with it? Submission begins where obedience or where agreement ends. So, if you may or may not agree, you still obey. What does that do for you? It builds character. Character? Cuz that's what dad said. What what does it do? It humbles you. Humbles All right, that's one of things. Somebody else. In what way? You get wisdom Okay. What Okay, what if it's a challenge to truly understand completely what they're trying to teach, impart? What if you're challenged by that? And and let me let me tell where I'm going. We live in an age, in fact, just recent 5 years, just the past 5 years, what have we seen on our incredible United States of America soil? Never thought, never in a million years did I think that we would ever see the US flag burned in our city streets. Never did I think that that people would rise up and that cities would say, "Let's just get rid of all the police force." Anybody else or am I the only one that thought that's a really dumb idea? No, never did I think that we would be in in a situation to where authority is questioned at every level. From the White House to the No House. Every level. Now things are as as mentioned earlier, things are so askewed. People are calling on the name of the Lord now where they haven't recently. And yet people walk around in in almost a confused state. Almost a perplexed state. Why? Because they're not able to agree with the those that have rule over them. And so it's easier then not to do. What what did your kids do when you told them, you better sit down? What did they do? They may have sat down, but on the outside they were sitting down, but on the inside they were standing tall. Why? Somebody say it. Cuz that's the nature of man. Here's the thing about it. The reason I brought this verse into tonight's lesson is because there are going to be times that your calling and your constitution are going to cause you to be who you are, but then your context is going to be established and you've got to be willing to say, I submit to those that are teaching and leading and guiding me. Now there are those that are in leadership that can get it wrong. Somebody say yes. But I believe that God can honor those in leadership to give direction and guidance to the whole group. Now if they'll put the QR code up on the screen, I would greatly appreciate it. Get your phone out, please. There'll be a QR code. Go ahead and scan that. We're going to We're going to take the last 15 minutes or so. Yeah, use your phone. It's that thing that you won't get rid of ever and never set down. Ever. I am thankful that you have a Bible on your phone now cuz I know you'll always have a Bible cuz you'll always go you'll go back and get your phone won't you. All right. This should bring up we did this last week and the week prior. Got to put your email address in and then that way it has a place to send the results. All right, I'll give you just a few moments to to bring that up. Brother Seth, why you last? You know how to use a phone? Disobedient, you see how far that got you. Your wife told you to get up, didn't she? All right, put your email email address in you should have section one come up for or part one. All right, I'm going to give you a few minutes. If you would please on your device go ahead and answer these seven points. How was I led to my current context? The culture of my city, the region the the and the region are unique in the following ways. The culture of my ministry context is unique in the following ways. How am I currently engaged in ministry? Is there room for me to grow here? How do my leaders, peers, followers understand my calling, gifting, and role? Have I accomplished all that I can here? Take some time and please give it give it an answer. Yes, ma'am. When when the question how elements my current context? Context is your location, where you are, your ministry. Mhm, your ministry, your calling. How did you get to that place? Context we decided was what you're doing. Let's call it that. So go ahead and take a few moments, please. Evelyn's taking your picture, brother Sam. There you go. Okay. She's cheating. Go ahead and take some time here. You have the loudest thumbs. All right, part one, my place. And I will I will you you'll have some time to take it and do it cuz as soon as you're finished with these points and you hit submit, it sends an email it sends an email to your email address. So, I'm I'm because for the sake of time and and the sake of this class, we're going to I'm just going to ask a couple people to volunteer. Have I accomplished all that I can here? Anybody want to answer that? Has anybody reached the pinnacle? Anyone at all? You say you could do more? Okay. All right. All right, that's fair. How How this? Um how am I engaged? What am I doing? What is my ministry? What is my calling in my constitution allowing me to do here? That's an easy way to say it. Anybody? Discipleship. Okay. Teaching. Teaching, discipling, yeah. What else? Somebody, yeah. Music, absolutely. Someone else? Type loud. Mhm. Anyone else? I mean, right now you're sitting here thinking, yeah, I'm involved with this, that, that, this, that. Some of you may be saying, I'm involved in a million things, and some may be saying, I'm not involved in a bunch. I don't know. Everybody's going to be different, of course. When you're done with that, go down to the bottom of your screen, hit next. And then it should take you to part two, opportunities. Again, if you'll go ahead and you can come back to this because before you submit it, you can come backwards. What is beautiful and special about this place? How has this place contributed to my growth and development? How can I continue to grow and learn here? What am I able to do here that I could not do elsewhere? What opportunities do I currently have? What is currently going undone here and how can I contribute to the solution? And how do I envision living out my call here? Take a few moments, please, and answer those. Everybody good? Now, you can write a lot here because there's there's actual these these opportunities that you're talking about, they can come in so many variety of ways. Variety of things, right? I I enjoy Anybody want to give a shout-out to the first one? First question? Yeah, on part two. I found it. Especially when I first came in. What's that? Or even now, but like the opportunity to invest. Okay. Very good. Someone else? The trust that leadership puts in Okay, sure. That's a beautiful thing, yeah. Anyone else? Watching lives being transformed. Yeah, actually observing the transition Actually, sure. It's a beautiful thing. And when you're done with that, part three, limitations. I think it's fair to consider there's possibly some limitations. What do I wish was different about this place? What am I unable to do here that I could do elsewhere? How can I shape the culture for the better and what are the unchangeable parts of my context which I just simply have to accept? Apparently. Some child did not get the snack they wanted, huh? All right, anybody want to attack this first one on part three? Yeah. Oh, right that's church right there. Very good. What else? Let's go back to this one, I'm joking. Anyone else? I think it's fair question. Sorry, somebody say you wish we had tear gas and rubber guns? All right, we've got just a couple of minutes. I will please admonish you after tonight when we finish this out, spend some time thinking at thinking of it. Where brother Sam and I got this, there's a book, Rodney Shaw, he's a pastor in in Texas, wrote a book called Church Work. It's a fabulous, fabulous tool. And this month, it it we we decided to use this material because it it actually gives us a moment to reflect and honest ask some honest questions and give some honest feedback to ourselves. Okay? I think it's fair to say that we might be doing a lot of things, but we are not doing a lot of things. There's a lot of things we could simply do better. Anybody agree? I do not think that we have reached the end, the pinnacle, or the maximum. In fact, I think that we all have an incredible amount of growth that we can do. Here's the thing, though. As we continue to work and do in the city of Chattanooga on East Brainerd Road, and we continue to move forward and and give people opportunities and stuff, there's always going to be challenges, things that happen, and if we are not willing to rise to the occasion, listen carefully, we will simply become a social group, social club, and we'll enjoy our fellowship and drink coffee together, and we'll forget about the world around us, and I don't think that's the will of God. I think that many of us sitting here tonight, in fact, many of us could simply put our hand to the wheel and begin to help push the wagon, put our hand to the plow and to help guide, help do, be involved. If that's the case, then what we're trying to accomplish this month with greater revival is we are trying to give all of us an awakening, if you will, to the grand possibilities of what God could actually do here on this corner. Is that fair? As wonderful as things have possibly in your mind are, if you're not involved, then you can't take the credit. If you are involved, listen, then you stand a chance of taking the blame. As leader, as pastor, when my department leaders come to me, "Hey, I have this idea." What's my first thing I say, leaders? Then you got to be the one to carry it. Poor Sister Jennifer back there, she used to come with all kind of ideas and I told her that and she'd go, "Mhm, I don't have any ideas." Not true. Why Why do I say that? Why Why would I make that statement to a department leader that comes to me with a great idea? Cuz if God gave them that idea, maybe it's for them. I believe that God can give information, ideas, and stuff to leadership. So, why would I take it from you and ruin it? Now, if I can help equip, if I can help get tools in your hands, absolutely. But here's the thing about the call of God, about the constitution of you, and about the context of where you are. We are growing, learning, moving together because we have a purpose here in Chattanooga. I I I think, if I may, I think aside from Great Sunday church and Great Wins- Midweek University, I think that it's a family that's worth connecting with. I do. I I think it's worth praying together with this family. I think it's worth investing in each other and spending time together, making decisions together, and watching life unfold. I do. There are so many incredible miracles sitting right here in this room tonight. We don't have time to talk about them all, but God has done some very powerful things in many of our lives. Agreed? What if God had that same thing for people that are not yet in the family? Then it should be a joy for us to say, "Lord, help me. Revive me, my passion, my desire so that I can help with someone else coming in and finding what you've got for their life." Is that fair? I think it is. I think that new babies in the church are positive thing. Not just physical baby. I mean, I think that's cool, too, but we notice we got rid of the water fountain down there, right? Okay. I think babies in Christ are beautiful thing. Man, they got so much energy and they don't understand and they're asking a ton of questions and they're making a bunch of mistakes and their diapers have got to be changed and they've got to be fed, spiritually speaking. But to watch the the the revealing of information and the work of the spirit, man, it's such a thrill when a new convert comes to me and says, "Pastor, I was reading the Bible this past week and this is what the Bible said. It said this in Acts." And then I read it and I did "Boo! What?" You know what I mean? "God showed that to you?" "Yeah, isn't that cool?" Absolutely. Guess what God is doing with them in their calling and in their constitution and in their context. God is saying, "I'm building a base for you. I'm pouring into you. Things are happening in your life." That's the beauty of church family. I believe that revival matters individually because if we are as individuals are doing what God's called us to do, it's going to affect the whole body and we're going to have revival in our church family. Stand with me, would you, Lord? Thank you so much for our time together tonight. Thank you for the power of the Holy Ghost that made the difference and makes the difference in us. I pray, Lord, you would help us to grow where we are planted. To invest in this our surroundings, the things that we're involved with.
