lift your voice right now i love you jesus come on pray with me church lord we bless your name we believe in you there is power there is anointing there is unction in this room once again lord i make myself available to you i need you jesus i need you lord we live to worship and to love and to magnify you i pray right now lord for every ear that is hearing today for every heart that is hoping today that you would move that you would speak god that you would open the windows of heaven and you would allow us lord one more time to be close to you in the name of jesus be glorified oh god be magnified king of kings we love you today one more time before you sit down can you just give him praise come on give him blessings right now hallelujah to your name jesus i love you lord i love you lord somebody say in jesus name you may be seated thank you singers musicians thank you to the staff sunday school to workers volunteers everybody that's pitched in to help thank you so much everybody every week that works cornerstone i love you and i'm so glad that you do amen god is so gracious god is so gracious hallelujah i know that i i spend a lot of time every week with information with studies and historical bits of data somehow to try to connect the message of the day with where we live today okay it's 2021 and there's just a whole lot happening amen i see that uh every day that we as humans we we can accept within ourselves in our ears and our eyes within our being if you will a certain amount of information pictures colors video music information of any sort of any type it is actually in the human makeup and design that makes things so very interesting about all of us as humans brain matter everybody point to your head see i got a brain right there come on convince yourself there's a brain in there look at your neighbor just look at them the truth of the matter is this when you came into this room today you were hit with a bunch of different bits of information agreed from the colors the lighting the smells the surroundings the noises information and data that quite honestly will remain in your memory from some for some time from now some parts of the information that you're processing will be lost some parts of it will be there for years and years and years to come i know that i am not the smartest person in the room but for those in the room neither are you but the facts are so cool how our brains our minds how we process and how we use information let me let me demonstrate it very simply question what did you wear last week to church on sunday what did you wear last week to church on sunday some of you got it right some of you can't recall but let me ask it this way then what was the name of your second grade teacher how is it that we can remember and recall very quickly some things that maybe seem so very irrelevant but other things we have a hard time bringing them back i could go on and on with questions and and i'm sure that some of you could answer while others would it would drive you crazy all up into the midnight tonight before you wake up and realize that's what the answer is a newer theater name finally now for the sake of time today please allow me a moment to present to you a picture that can best recall from your storehouse of information okay since since we came together today in this room there have been no less than a million bits of information that have already passed through your mind came into your eyes came into your ears came into your nose came into your mouth whatever it is the brain has processed it and somewhere in the brain there's a whole bunch of information that's running around in there what i'm trying to tell you is that some of you right now while i'm standing at this podium speaking you have already switched gears and you're thinking of something else some of you really can't recall what i asked you a moment ago because you've already moved on to the next thing that you're thinking about or the answer of something that someone asked you last week it's the way the mind works i can look out across a room of five or five hundred and i can see on people's faces right where they are that good old deer in the headlight look that's that's a true thing what was the question what was you talking about stay with me stay with me stay with me again some of you switched gears just now you did it again you did it again now your mind's tracking something else you wonder did i turn off the stove did i unplug the iron is this week's donuts going to really be on friday am i going to get the best one or is the co-worker going to get it on and on things change the mind switches gears wait wait just a moment it just happened again somebody in here wonders did you remember the coupon that you do you know what's going to expire you should have brought it otherwise you're going to pay full price and somebody will be upset and angry and your mind is switching gears between information that has nothing to do with being in the house of god but because it's human nature it's what we learn to deal with we are programmed a certain way that's why you're marketing professionals that's why your media experts they play on that reality they know what it takes to get in your brain and to somehow switch something in there you ever been walking through a shopping center and smell coffee and all of a sudden you got to have it how did that even happen how did that even happen years and years ago i was i was doing a job and and i found out the hard way do you realize that ice cream in and of itself is an impulse item they sell more ice cream in the winter than summer they're cold they walk in a mall they walk in a store like oh it's cold ooh ice cream sounds good it's cold the brain clicks that way you do know mom and dad there's a reason your children ask for certain gifts at christmas time because the media guys and the marketing guys out there say hey what do we got a bunch of all right we'll push that and here it goes stay with me stay with me stay with me images triggers senses smells colors they all have a way of making and causing us to do things i know that all of us understand that that is a basic human trait allow me to ask another question if i could when was the last time in your life that you actually hit your pause button you know the pause button does anybody understand comprehend the pause button the wait button the just a moment button the not a real stop but just a a a linger moment it's not a certain that i am done moment but it's simply i need to put things on a break for just a second when was the last time any of you in your life at whatever moment whatever process that you were in the middle of when was the last time that you had a momentary lingering while the pause button was pushed it gives you a chance all of us know what the pause button is correct now that didn't come into existence until the late 60s because before anybody out there remember 8-track i mentioned this earlier there was not a pause button there was not a rewind button there was a fast-forward button so if you wanted to play the song over you had to flip it over fast forward then flip it back over that was your reverse you couldn't pause you had to hit the hard stop there wasn't a hold on a second somebody's on the phone or give me just a second i'll start it again come on we understand pause because in the middle of the video or the movie or the cd or the music that you're listening to it might come to a point where you go and you pause now during the stay with me during the pause you you have a whole lot of things going on with my wife for an example she's very very kind to do this she'll be listening to one of her podcasts and it's playing at 900 decibels and i walk through and i why is this so loud and she said huh are you listening to it when i can how do you get the information how do you get it oh i just feel the air with it and i absorb it and walk around it i'm like well no that doesn't happen for me because it's difficult to every time a thought changes or every time a process changes to go hit the pause button in the wait until you can get back on track anybody know i'm talking about come on anybody out here like podcast audio on books or stuff you know things like that books on audio yeah yeah you start listening and then you get involved and then you get distracted and then you wonder where you were come on i realize we're in 2021 and technology has brought things all the way up to where you can only pause and go back 10 seconds or forward 10 seconds you can start over when you come into the next because it'll hold it in cash memory and it's there until you start over again but has anybody ever had to start from the very beginning because you missed the whole thing hang on to pastor for just a moment i came here today with a lifeline of support to help somebody who will allow me to help them some of us in this room some of us watching online right now we are drowning with information we are overwhelmed with life and the information that it has brought us and the problems of our life have become bigger have become oversized because we don't know how to handle things because we don't understand the power of a pause instead we have tried to become juggling artists to juggle them do you realize and some of you may not like this and some of you may think that i'm lying but the fact of the matter is they have recently discovered through science and through all of this technology and all this learning that there really is nobody out there that can truly multitask can anybody here multitask some of you are like well i don't think i do yeah you know what that means that means you don't no you don't multitask you may do several things at once but believe me they are all suffering because if you can't focus on it what do you do you miss the details and then you find yourself going back doing what having to fix it recreate it start it over now again i can have 17 things going in my life yeah i want that there this here this and i'm down here and doing that but the fact of the matter is if i were to step back and look i did it this past week on a job that i'm working on there's 45 things happening and i'm trying to say i need six of those two of those where do you want me here how am i going to go there yes no go up down by the at every at the end of it all i'm standing there exhausted saying i have no idea did somebody just ask me a question oh where was i going squirrel what shiny hmm stay with me stay with me hang on to me what has happened is that even now even right now there's some of the information that you are processing right now and you are trying to figure out what importance and what priority you should have in your life boom it just happened again some of you your mind just switched gears again some of you are panicking because you feel like you are out of control i am sending to you a message today that whatever data that you are processing whatever information that you are trying to deal with i've come to ask you today while you're in the house of the lord is there a possibility that you may chance to hit the pause button for just a moment so many times you can get to church and you feel like you're in a motto i feel my help coming of just having church but you miss the joy of serving your god when you work hard at the efforts of trying to process the information of the day you see an open door and you want to know is this how i go is this where i get to and you've missed the whole joy of salvation you're trying to squeeze god into your life instead of allow your life to attach itself to god thinking that you yourself have forced yourself into a corner you've made mistakes you've got failures therefore you're trying to deal with them on your own and you don't know how and then if god can somehow come in and bail you out you sure be mighty thankful i come to tell somebody today it might be time that you hit a pause button in your life and realize lord i just need my help i need strength i need the breath of god to work within my life today hear me what i'm saying some of us react to the possibilities of what might happen and we miss the whole possibility that god is trying to work in us hear me when the worship and the singing of our time together today when your classes of instruction and what you've received today through the spoken word when all the stories that have been relived and the processes have been given to you i want to ask you have you through and all felt the presence of god have you through it all somehow felt god in your atmosphere was it god's presence or was it simply a goosebump machine working was it god's breath of fresh air or were you simply passing at a moment of weakness hear what i'm saying right now if you have felt the presence of god today why did you not simply stay there and linger were you so embodied with all of the stuff that you have to do that when the breath and the voice of god began to breathe and move in your life you enjoyed it for the fleeting moment but then you succumb to your schedule now i say i know that i'm guilty of this i as a pastor i try to keep the service moving i try to keep things going but i've come to tell somebody today that there is something about knowing the presence of god and then staying in that presence on purpose see god is a big god somebody say man he knows all things he's everywhere and he's got all the stuff in control somebody say that's our god and so many times we got god chasing after us so we think and all the while we are busy in our lives we are committed to what we do but we won't stop long enough to allow god to change us david he's a songwriter in the scriptures he wrote a whole bunch of songs anybody know his psalms yeah spent a lot of time painting word pictures if you will spend a lot of time in his psalms you can read through those in the book of psalms and and you can see the possibilities and the abilities of god working with humanity we all love those psalms we like the way they're written because we are able to see god in a very powerful and very overwhelming light it's songs if you will that are making us feel a certain way a poetry an emotion connects all of us know the lord is my shepherd i shall not want the lord is my shepherd we we see that as as a way that david penned words and and put melody to it and and we get that at the funeral time or when you're in a really tough situation but let me ask you something when you look at the very beginning of the book of psalms there's something about how the bible translators took words from what was original greek hebrew or aramaic and they put them into english words so that we could comprehend their meanings notice this psalm chapter one verse number one the the first one that the king james version puts into order says this blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful but his delight is in the law of the lord and in his law does he meditate day and night and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season his leaf also shall never wither and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper the ungodly are not so but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous for the lord knoweth the way of the righteous but the way of the ungodly shall perish david begins this incredible book of poetry and songs and he begins writing about knowing where to sit who to listen to and what company that you should keep the man who would see things in the presence of god from god's point of view even he to give us a better understanding of god's purpose in all that happens in our lives david begins this book if you will with a way that god deals and interacts with us as humans it continues though and he speaks of the heathen and he speaks of the ones that are against the powerful plan of god that god has for our lives david sings his song about the way that he needs god to move into his situation but then i want to draw your attention today to the third song that is listed here in the psalm number three we see here that we have access into the understanding that david is running for his life from his third son absalom his son was a real looker historians declared that he was brave and handsome and that all historians will say he was a good-looking guy he had all of that and a box of cracker jacks but he was ruthless in his pursuit of what he desired history tells us if you go into it you understand it declares that he was very vain he looked downward at everybody around them and if it did not fulfill what absalom wanted he would simply kill that person push them by the wayside overrun them because he only wanted his desires and his way or the highway it is in that environment it is in all of the things that come against david at this point that he understands when i write this song oh god i'm coming to you because i need to see your hand working in my life notice something here in the third third psalm verse number one lord how are they increased that trouble me many are they that rise up against me many there be which say of my soul there is no help for him in god david knows that his son is looking for him wants to kill him and notice in this particular psalm david even declares they've increased there's a whole lot more of them it looks like everybody's trying to silence me it appears that they're trying to quiet the anointing the oil the junction that is flowing that is covering up my life but know something here friend on this sunday afternoon we get to the end of verse number two there is a word that is placed here and it simply says hang on to me the bible historians and translators declare this is one of the handful of words that they simply could not translate from the original into english there was nothing in their vocabulary that they could find to connect it from that one into ours now if you go into your theologian books and you go into all the dictionary stuff you'll find out there are several ideas of what cela meant but understand that typically when they translate this it is not translated as a word but you actually get to speak the original hebrew that was spoken at that time and over 70 times in your old testament this word is written it appears that every time that it is written either in the psalm or habakkuk that there is a pause there david can i say it this way will y'all listen to pastor for a moment as i gather up the line to throw this life support to you lord how are they increase that trouble me many are they that rise up against me many there be would say of my soul there is no help for him and god in the writing and the transliterated word david stops and he sees trouble is trying to overtake me i take a breath he did not continue like you and i continue when we read this but he broke rhythm lord i am so incredibly overwhelmed right now i am noticing that so many things have just gotten out of whack in the worst moment of david's life instead of running and screaming and trying to find a solution he identifies how many are out there trying to stop me but right now lord i am talking to you and i stop it looks really bad but i'm pausing it doesn't say that there would be a breath and then start over it doesn't say that there will be a 30-second interlude it simply says selah wait notice verse 3 of the same song but thou o lord i art a shield for me my glory and the lifter up of mine head i cried unto the lord with my voice and he heard me out of his holy heel talks about how bad things are and how things come against him in the trouble of the enemies coming onslaught and trying to wipe him out if you will but in that pause in that break he begins again in the same song we don't know if there are weeks or months that pass we don't know if there are moments or minutes that pass we simply know that he identifies i'm in a bad place but then he breathes again and he begins but you god you're a shield for me my glory the lifter up of my head i cried to you and you heard me notice the word then again appears in the same song selah he first identified things look really bad but i stop and i observe what's happening here the preacher for just a moment what you and i would like to know from god is quickly how to hit the button so that it starts over and instead of a pause we want to reset a do-over a mulligan when the facts are the same god was god before your mess god will be god after your mess what you have to worry about and what you need to do with all of your heart and all of your mind and being is you need to understand stop for a moment and identify that god is still god even though you may not see him hold on to me for a minute jesus knowing this david then says i heard from you out of your holy heel the same word references the same understanding here jesus see there's a lot of us that have learned in the day in which we live that when things fall apart and when everything begins to blow up hear what i'm saying i'm doing this with all the love i can that the quickest way out of it and the quickest way to get through it is to send a text to our prayer coordinator and get everybody in the world praying maybe it's time that can i say this that instead of being that as your first response why don't you understand god i've done prayed this prayer a thousand times and what i have prayed is this you order the steps of a righteous man therefore i will maintain the righteousness that you lead me to i know that i'll face obstacles i'm very aware that troubles will come but when they do i will stop and in your presence i will linger i'm not running to everybody saying bombard heaven with all this what i'm doing rather is i'm taking the sailor and i'm deciding at that moment you've not left me you can't leave me you'll be with me to the end of the world you're not throwing me to the wolves you're not allowing me to be trampled underfoot if i'm doing what god says to do then nothing formed against you can prosper i am not telling you to not call sister stacy and ask her for prayer but what i'm telling you is sometimes your busy life has kept you from stopping and what god is doing and you want to identify it with sin and junk and garbage and woe is me and everything in life is just falling apart and that might not be the case he declares i heard i heard your voice i heard you speak to me i heard out of your holy heel you came and you spoke and when your words came out of your godly lips breathe out of your godly nostrils i stood firm where i was and i received them i couldn't haphazardly take the promise of god and apply it to my life no i didn't get into the mess by myself but god was with me in the mess that i got myself into but when i'm in that mess everybody's against me i pause and i reflect and i understand but god i cried to you and you came notice something happens here after the second salah verse five same song i laid me down and i slept i awaked for the lord sustained me i will not be afraid of ten thousands of people that have set themselves against me round about arise o lord save me o my god for thou has smitten all mine enemies about the cheekbone thou has broken the teeth of the ungodly salvation belongeth unto the lord thy blessing is upon thy people hear the story change in just a few verses that when finally david came to the place to realize i was there when the anointing oil was turned up on end as samuel anointed me to be king and there ain't no chance in hell that my third son's gonna come and kill me in the midst of this but my god has a plan my god has a purpose he's going to let me lay down and rest he's going to wake me up and allow me to realize and understand that god you're on my side so with a changed heart brother justin he ends the song selah just to say laws ago i was ready to throw in the towel but now i've gotten rest in my body oh jesus help me not to to mingle and to meddle today in somebody's life some of us we don't need god to come in and anoint us we just simply need a good night's sleep to allow rest to come in and recharge us come on some of us we're facing problems and issues because we got our brains so wrapped up around the data and the information that we see and that's true hey they'll tell you every doctor in america and the world will tell you you need to turn that junk off sometimes let the light of that display get out of your brain get away from your mind hey listen to me friend if you're letting facebook put you to sleep no wonder you can't sleep if you're letting the news of the day wake you in the morning no wonder you're full of such dread why don't you pause once in a while and let the power and the anointing of god come in and give you the rest that you need the sleep that you need and let him put things back in order in your life i am no longer afraid david said god you rose up and you deal with those that are trying to destroy me i pause i take a moment as you came into this service today some of you brought with you so many things that's happening in your life there are so many things that have transpired just over the last 45 minutes questions ideas problems and processes that there is no way that you'll ever come up with solution for but while you have sat here under the sound of my voice you have tried to figure out everything because for some reason you feel like in the church house is where i get guidance and direction therefore i will listen and i will figure it out myself let me ask you a question when was the last time you simply paused while god was moving not while you were trying to conjure him up to move not while somebody else sister so and so her brother sets and such was over there getting a blessing and then you just figured out god must be here so there oh that was a good word yeah what time we're going to lunch and when you go out that door and you climb into your vehicle i have watched time and time and time again you hit that doorway and the first thing that you respond to is the first thing out of your pocket to figure out what you missed question when was the last time you simply lingered while god was here while his hand was working in the house of the lord while speaking in tongues and the healing was happening you didn't hurry off you just lingered there it don't have to come when brother justin's singing or brother herb playing it can come while you're simply lifting your voice unto the king of glory and instead of hurrying up to get out of here you're deciding i'm going to linger i'm going to stay here in this i need this i i need to i want this to happen i'll ask it this way and then again when i ask questions i'm not simply asking you this comes to me also when's the last time you fell asleep in the presence of the lord god as you were praying through your problem and a peaceful rest came over you some of you old-timers remember lock-ins when you were a kid we used to have prayer lock-ins when i was a kid growing up we did that because our pastor wouldn't let us have the fun ones so we spend time at the church herb all night praying fall asleep speaking in tongues and the anointing of the lord there woke up one time and things were happening in the prayer and and wondering what was going on with the young lady or this guy over here passed out went and got the pastor he lived next door he came over there about three in the morning knelt down and said just leave him alone god's doing a work in them what's that mean i'm 15 16 years old i have no idea what that means you know what that meant that meant god was doing the work in them and so what i learned brother jerry's just back off and if god doing the work i sure ain't gonna mess with that and three hours later they're still laying there but under the anointing of the lord i remember touching the face of one of the young ladies her face was hot as fire hands cold as ice and i thought what in the world's going on brother kedrick can you come over here and brother sure okay leave her alone god's doing her work in there something's going on in there something's moving in there what happened did she conjure something up they said no you know what happened was as you stopped in the presence of god and instead of hurrying up and running out to see what you could do next you simply lingered while god was there listen to me carefully please and i know i know my clocks are come on brother give him some false hope listen to me moses heard from god he was born thrown in a river drug out his mom raised him pharaoh's house we know the story but then something in him caused him to rise up against the persecution and he and he killed one of the egyptians he buried the guy in the sand i got to get covered and then the the the children of god they said are you going to kill us too and we all know the story and he flees and he runs in 40 years he's out there but all of a sudden he's 80 years old the power of god begins to move in a bush everybody say a plant look at your neighbor and say a plant the bible says that moses was doing his job and he's walking along and the looks to the side and there's a bush that's on fire but he doesn't see that it's being consumed he simply sees that there's fire in the bush he walks towards it and out of that burning bush seth god says get your shoes off you ain't never walked on holy ground like you're about to walk on so he flips the sandals off he draws closer to the bush the only thing he could do is fall on his face because the presence of god was there doesn't say he stayed there 30 seconds or 30 minutes or 30 hours it simply means god called him and gave him the direction from no way that moses could ever say god did not speak to him it comes away from there aaron i'm slow to speech but you and i got a job to do buddy miriam are you with us i don't know how it's going to turn out we're going into pharaoh's you all know the story plagues okay y'all with us the bible says though children of israel came out of bondage and that while they were traveling because there were a multitude i mean millions of these people they had that issue they had problems they had things going on and they had learned from the courts of pharaoh how that they could they could address situations and then they learned because of their own laws that had been brought and given to them that they could take care of problems and so they were and poor moses was working himself to death y'all know the story right god gave him a plan you need to put this portable church together this okay but this is what i need you to do moses i need you to put together a small meeting place outside the camp so that you and i could talk because i can't talk to you with all the stuff going on that you're trying to fix i need you to come apart to where i am the scripture tells us in exodus specific details of this tabernacle aside the word was finally given to all the people listen if you've got an issue if you've got a problem you can make your problem known by going out to the tabernacle there and present your case and moses can judge it and god can give you answers go with me in the story exodus first part of exodus chapter three the bible says that god came into that meeting place and met with moses as a friend to a friend and he talked to moses and moses to him and he conversed about what god was asking him to do and god was breathing life and promise was unfolding in the man of god for the hour because god had something for moses to do there's no way that moses could have read it in a text there's no way moses could have got an email on this one this was going to be an encounter with time in god's presence we know the story the bible says god gave moses a word for the children of israel and so moses gathered his stuff in the tabernacle and he slipped through the door and he walked towards the camp of the israelites to do his job but joshua joshua did not see the burning bush joshua did not understand the concept of the voice but the bible says that joshua the young man remained in the tabernacle when god went with moses to the people justin he lingered there i pause here before i get up and walk out that door i want to know what i just heard i want to comprehend what was just communicated because i don't know how god speaks all i know is what i hear and the environment that i'm in he lingered there it doesn't say how long he lingered he simply says that he stayed but if you'll recall in all of the things that god did with moses the man joshua was there and when moses went up to look over he couldn't go into the promised land god took him god comes to joshua and says joshua you're the man now how can that be i don't understand that i'm just i just want to be loving you and serving you and doing what you call me to do god says i know when you were lingering in the tabernacle my presence didn't just go with moses but i came next to you and i breathed into you he could have run out and went and helped and did but he didn't he stayed not knowing that one day god would give him the reins and say you lead my people without a stick you lead my people with the promise would you bow your head with me church today lord we pause say lie i pray right now lord against all of the distractions of life through the challenges and difficulties of life i speak against them right now and i pray god that in your presence we would stop and wait jesus i want to invite the church right now if you will would you come to an altar would you kneel down find that corner and simply say lord i'm sorry that i'm hurrying through i'm sorry lord that i'm more concerned about after church after this lord i sure do need you now and i know lord that even in the midst of questions and problems and issues and all the things that can unfold in life i'm hungry for you more than anything come on church it's prayer time come on church don't need to hurry through this you need to recognize that god is god in all of this we need to know that the hand of the lord is leading come on don't hurry through it jesus i need you come on somebody don't be in a hurry to rush past it but let god speak to you now come on let the voice of god echo into your spirit right now let the word of god unfold into your life right now come on saint come on friend jesus if you're here today and you don't understand it come on pray let god do the work let god unfold it in your life oh come on that's right come on that's right you've got the holy ghost you need to right now let the holy ghost move in your life come on you need to let him move in your heart right now come on the mess you may be going through right now it's god's simply saying will you still love me will you still believe me i'm doing the work don't run through this when you stop in the presence of the lord oh that's right come on call in the name of jesus jesus christ jesus come on that's right come on that's right and stand in his knee lay in his presence i'm not going anywhere lord i've come to live with you i've come to stop a moment with you jesus that's right come on trust him come on believe him for it away jesus jesus come on take time no oh that's right come on i'm jesus i wait for you jesus jesus jesus i've already made up my mind i've already made up my mind i'm waiting for you lord come on can you go find somebody in the room today and pray with them would you do that would you go encourage someone else come on god can speak through you into their lives god can encourage come on go find somebody pray with them i'm going away come on go find somebody pray with them believe god for the work that god's doing in them come on that's right that's right come on lord you will know god where they are you know what they're going oh that through come on i'm not turning back now i've just heard it back now i'm all that's right run into his presence i'm waiting for you lord i need you lord i need you lord i need you lord i need you lord how i trust in you how i trust in you come on god every day lord your glory leads us and helps and touches our lives right now lord i pray for encouragement and strength in the church as we wait lord as we stand in your presence as we lay in your presence as we just pause lord to love and worship you daily go with us this week let the hand of the lord be upon us let the glory of the lord work and move in our hearts and our lives we believe you for greatness lord we trust you for revival we believe you for it jesus revival in our day lord revival in our day we trust you lord and we look to you for great things somebody say amen say i believe
