pray with me right now lord jesus we thank you for our time together today we thank you lord that we've been able to gather in your name we have prayed today lord we have pledged your blood lord over needs and situations needing healing and deliverance lord we pray god that you would accept our worship let it be acceptable in your sight right now lord we go to your word we need you lord speak to us once again lord i make myself available to you i want to hear from you today god our hearts and lives to be changed lord and connected with you and every day love you and serve you in jesus name come on church right now pray god we need to hear from you lord we want you today jesus we need you jesus we need you today jesus somebody say amen again i welcome all of you to cornerstone i'm glad you've come thank you singers musicians thank you to our sunday school staff for teaching and for our greeters and security folk the water center outers and the water picker-uppers for the nursery where everybody that's got a part in cornerstones mechanics i love you and i thank you if you don't yet have a place find one but i'll ask you this as i tell all of those going through discipleship class stay off the log lumps on the log are not allowed here we've got too much to do amen turn to your neighbor and say you need to do something i honor all of you today again to our guest i'm glad you're here to our visitors we're so honored you've come today thank you thank you those online watching get your bibles out we're going to the word you may be seated thank you brother herb thank you so much there are so many active and moving parts in our everyday lives right there's there's a there's a whole lot of things that are going on and you're coming and you're going you're working a job you're making plans for the future you're preparing for your the next day's events you're living life with your children or grandchildren or whatever it is and there's a whole lot of things that go on in the day-to-day activities that quite honestly you and i really don't even know the part the lifestyle if you will that we have we have come to enjoy here in our great nation there's a whole lot of things going on behind the scenes that we most of the time don't even consider for an example if you want to eat out somewhere guess what it requires a whole lot of things right it requires workers think about this and i'm sure most of you probably dwell on this about every day so you understand full well where i'm coming from to some of you though it's going to be a reminder do you know if you want to go sit down and have a hamburger in a restaurant that there are so many moving parts behind that particular one thing that it would be hard to grasp all of it for an example somebody has to plant the seed in the ground that grows the plant that the cows eat somebody's got to keep the cows together and make sure they're taken care of and fed and and then from there it has to be processed and somebody's got to process it and drive the truck around the country dropping off frozen food that's been processed and then you go into the restaurant and somebody's had to cook the food and prep the food and clean up the food and wash the hands and hopefully wash the plates and the silverware that you're i mean there's a whole lot of things that goes on that we simply take advantage of them don't we there's others for an example that are lined up just simply trying to grow the grain that those cows are going to eat there's some that are going to harvest there's some that are going to go out into the field and pull there's some that are going to make sure that the machines work and that everything's up and running every part of the process for you simply to go to lunch today is very much involved amen ultimately we arrive at the restaurant we've got our family and friends with us we sit down at the table and while we sit down there all of this stuff is going on behind the scenes look at your neighbor and say i'm glad that they do what they do uh here can we go further stay with me today for a little bit let's consider other areas of our lives to put gas in your car what is required besides a bank teller oh there's the guy that that makes sure that the hole's dug that the well pulls up that the process happens that the plant happens that it's transferred from one point to the other that it's put through the mill and then it's brought out to where you are and it's dumped in the ground and it's pumped out of there just for you to drive to that restaurant the clothes on your back think about it somebody's got to make sure that this is in place and the material's there and the colors are right and the sewing is done right on and on we don't even think of that we just put the clothes on how about the coffee in your mug somebody about to have church come on now oh y'all let me dwell now for a minute right hang in there with that all areas of your life they have so much time energy and effort in vested in them it is simply the way it is now generations ago it was not so there was not all the restaurants and the coffee shops and the gas and all this stuff it was simply you and your family on a farm and you grew what you eat and you ate what you grew and you shared with those around you understand that anybody is anybody okay uh a little house on the prairie all right i had to bring something to where you'd get it right fact of the matter in some other countries they're customs they're different in some other parts of the world they have different ways that they make sure they have what they have but suffice it to say that there are known and unknown things that are inconnection moving just so you could have what you have today just so they can have what they have today all of these things are connected and they're tied together in so many ways i bring that to your attention this afternoon for this reason because life in the church is quite a bit like that as well amen it's like that as well we all travel a distance to come here we all get out of bed we get dressed we do what we do and we come here some drive further than others some simply have to do this others have 14 things to do before you come parents and moms keep your hands down but everything that's done to get to the church house is because you want to plug in and connect with someone else you want to know them i've come to understand quite honestly that you and i are better together look across the room and say i need you we are better together come on many of you sitting in here under the sound of my voice maybe online you're watching this family has become closer than your natural family and some of you are very glad of that you would rather be here than anywhere else why because you cry together you laugh together you sing together you pray together when one hurts you hurt all of this is called the family of god are you thankful for the family of god come on i am thankful for the family of god people that can connect this building the one down the street the one across town the one on the other side of the world the family of god close sleeping it together encourage somebody right now close to you and say i'm sure glad that you're in my family come on tell somebody oh some of y'all ain't glad at all tell somebody i'm glad that i'm in your family i'm thankful that i'm connected to you what happens is when somebody faces bad times tough times when they come in they can have a way of stealing joy they can have a way of taking somebody's peace they can have a way of of making someone disgruntled and upset and angry because they don't feel like that they were dealt a good hand i've come today to remind some of us that we have known somebody in our lives that once they were loving god serving god worshiping god but for whatever reason something transpired and something happened and over time a process of separating themselves from the family things begin to happen in their lives or happen in in in things going on around them and it's almost like things begin to fall apart i want to share with you a biblical story today that might might not seem to connect but follow me for a moment the book of ruth chapter number one verse number one it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land a certain man of bethlehem judah went to sojourn in the country of moab he his wife has two sons verse two and the name of the man was elimelech the name of his wife was naomi the name of his two sons malone and chilon chileon ephraditis of bethlehem judah that came to the country of moab continued there verse 3 tells us that elimelech naomi's husband died she was left her her two sons they took them wives of the women of moab the name of the one was orpha the name of the other ruth they dwelt there about 10 years and verse 5 says in malone and chileon died also both of them the women was left of her two sons of her husband family that seemingly had all the right things happening in their lives they moved from their homeland of bethlehem judah into a new land called moab now the bible according to this story for those of you who know the book of ruth stay with me for just a bit here because you'll discover that there was a time of lean it was called a famine no crops food not everybody's appetite could be satisfied and there wasn't enough to go around and so this husband took his wife and his two boys and and they moved on to the country of moab according to the story all was well with the family everything was going according to plan they had they had moved into a new area their lives were flourishing i don't know does it really say but we can assume that maybe they found a church family to connect to and jobs begin to work the the boys maybe i don't know they maybe they played little league baseball or she the the wife she may have found a couple social clubs that she could connect to whatever it was it doesn't say in the bible but it says that everything was going correctly and then almost for no reason we simply have in this story that naomi's husband died now she's a widow and and she's sitting there with her two sons and and all the things of the hopes and the dreams and the wishes and the the planning had now come to this place to where she has nothing but the bible continues and says that the boys found wives there amongst the moabites and they married them and and there was a great blessing no doubt that that she as a widow would have her her sons to marry these girls and they would bring all these blessings and things and she could somehow someway feel fulfilled at this point but the story continues as time moved forward that both of naomi's sons also died we don't know how they died it doesn't say it simply says that her husband died the boys married and then those boys died and now there's 10 years it says that they were there it wasn't an overnight thing it wasn't something that simply came out of the wraps it was a a planning it was life invested their system the way they did things the way they interacted everything had changed y'all hang on to pastor for just a moment naomi of course she is feeling forsaken she's even feeling betrayed she had come to moab with all things to look forward to but now everything had come unraveled no doubt with a very heavy heart she gathers her daughter-in-laws together for a heart-to-heart talk and naomi simply says to the girls listen i don't know that i can take care of you any longer and i know that you've got a long life in front of you and i know that that you've been very faithful and you've been very kind but i want to imp i want you to know it's time for you to get up and go back to where your families are and you can be okay there you're a moabite you can plug in and everything can be fine here but for me life has changed to a point that i don't know what to do next in those days keep in mind it was a great challenge for a woman who was married to lose her husband because everything was connected to the husband's lineage you understand that it was hard for her to survive and now she's not got any men in the house it's even more challenging because she has two daughters in law the laws force them to make some decision and the scripture if you'll go in and you'll study out ruth you'll find that naomi separates herself from her daughters-in-law and she attempts to send them back to their families they're young enough that they she even says you can't wait for me to have another child it just doesn't make sense so please go live your life do what you do let life connect with you the bible said that orpha one of the girls the daughter-in-law she kissed her mother-in-law and she stood and she walked away but there was another one called ruth ruth fell upon her the bible says in this great story and she tells her i'm not going anywhere except where you go but where you go i will go and where you live i will live and where you die that's where they're going to find me i want you to know naomi i am with you naomi tries to talk her out of it it doesn't happen so finally naomi gets up ruth gets up and here they go it's a difficult situation the story gives details and then there's some things that you got to kind of read into and study through history and you got to find out now today i stand here on this sunday and i'm not talking about mother's day i'm not talking about the virtuous woman i'm not going through all of that i want you all to know that the lord has dealt strongly with me on this particular subject and i have prayed and i have sought the face of god to help me understand what is going on here i want y'all to know this is coming from my heart i realize that there are times in people's lives that they face challenges and difficulties and when things do not go as planned and things happen and they come unraveled and they become disconnected dreams are dash hopes die life is tough naomi and ruth you find this you listen to this when they returned to bethlehem there was a change in the woman called naomi the town folk and the family members received reached out to her and said this is naomi she's come back to us verse 19 of ruth chapter one so they too went until they came to bethlehem and it came to pass when they were come to bethlehem that all the city was moved about them they said is this naomi she said unto them y'all listen to this church call me not naomi call me mara for the almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me i went out full the lord hath brought me home again empty why then shall you call me naomi seeing the lord has testified against me and the almighty had afflicted me needless to say friends this is a brokenhearted person very upset very discouraged in fact the city comes to talk to her and to greet her and to welcome her but the bible says naomi said don't call me that any longer the meaning of the name naomi is simply pleasant but once the reality of the loss that she had gone through had settled in she made her own declaration do not call me pleasant but call me mara call me bitter she declared that god was no longer on her side she would suffer and go through the trials and things that she had gone through and life had fallen apart and she was no longer pleasant she was no longer pleasant but yet she described herself i become bitter that of course becoming from pleasant to bitterness would change her demeanor it would change her countenance she wouldn't laugh no more she would have joy no more she would not have that sweet spirit things in her life and in her in her mind and in her spirit would have changed bitterness my friend will do that to a person today i know that i'm drawing from an old testament story but i am certain that we all know who of people who have followed this path today they have begun to follow a path of confusion they've begun to follow a path that has led them into where is the peace of god where is the joy of the lord where is loving and all the pleasures of serving god they are now in a position to where they feel as if bitterness has overtaken them and they no longer have any reason to lift hands or to open their mouth and worship the living god we have seen people in our lives that have once loved the things of god they have been in the presence of god you have watched them in the presence of god you know them you understand them yet something happened they walked a different path the church uses the term called backslider and it's not a biblical term it simply means that somebody who was here slid backwards and they began to make a change in their demeanor and the things that they used to do they had a position that was close to god and for some reason all the things of life came in and now it's pushed them into a position that they no longer run towards the things of god their day-to-day living has been altered of late you all know my heart i have been praying and i have been talking to this church backsliders are coming home people that once were in the house of god are coming back to the house of god and in my spirit i seek for that i look for that i pray for that i want that but i've come today to tell somebody that something has to change not only did naomi change her name from pleasant to bitter but ruth chapter 4 verse 13 notice this boaz took ruth she was his wife he went in under her the lord gave her conception she bear a son the woman said to naomi blessed be the lord which hath not left thee this day without a kinsmen that his name may be famous in israel y'all follow this verse 15. he shall be under the restorer of thy life and a nourisher of thine old age for thy daughter-in-law which loveth thee which is better to thee than seven sons hath borne him naomi took the child laid it on her bosom became nurse unto it and the woman her neighbors gave it a name saying there is a son born to naomi and they call his name obed he's the father of jesse the father of david an incredible story of ruth listen to me carefully ruth and naomi their story is so encouraging how that ruth decided where you go i will go what you do i will do your people my people where you die i am going to be buried as well ruth stuck with her through the good and the bad and i've wondered that and i'm standing here today i'm not preaching a mother's day message but church hear me pastor's heart right now there's a lot of things that have happened in lives of people that have been in the house of god that have been in the fellowship of even where you and i said even places around the globe and i wonder why god did this story just abruptly come to me a few days ago and i'm trying to grind it out and figure out the virtuous woman anybody know it and all these stories coming out of it and i know this is old testament stuff and i'm reading it and i'm wondering listen to me please the word naomi her name meant pleasant she changed it to mara bitterness but do you know what the name ruth means it means friend the only way that a naomi could come back is if a friend wrapped up around her and stayed with her through all of the transitioning and all the things happening i submit to you today friend that there are friends of ours there are people that we have known that have walked away from god they have become frustrated and bitter at what life has given them call them a backslider call them cold in spirit whatever you want but the word of god tells us that if a friend will attach themselves to them god can come in and change the very countenance of someone i come to this podium to declare to you that there are folk that have walked away and went out into the world and no telling what they're doing but if somebody can become a friend to them can give them the comprehension listen i don't know what you come through i don't understand how you got where you are but one thing i know god does not want you to stay bitter he does not want you to stay in the position that you have lost out with god but what god wants more than anything is to put your name back to pleasant listen when naomi was old in age and the baby laying on her bosom one more time pleasantness has come back to me one more time i rejoice in the presence of a holy god one more time a friend has drawn me into the presence of a god that has mercy and has grace and has love has compassion is long suffering is able to heal is able to put back together what naomi needed was a friend and she got that in ruth but i've come today to ask somebody do you know somebody hungry for god if so maybe you can be the ruth to them and maybe within their bosom there is a future generation that's going to stand up and declare the whole council of god you listen if naomi did not have a ruth in her life that it never would have happened that obed would have been born that jesse would have been born and that david would have been born in the lineage of the jesus christ that we love and serve she said i went out pleasant but i returned bitter but until the friend got into involved until ruth got involved it was never gonna happen today is there somebody who understands this principle the new testament discusses it luke chapter 15. i wonder if the prodigal son had a ruth in his life we heard our precious evangelist a few weeks ago talk about the prodigal son i wonder i wonder brother daniel if the one working in the pig pen next to him was a ruth i want to be your friend i don't know where you come from i don't understand everything about what you're going through but don't you have a family you can go to the bible said about the prodigal what he came to himself oh yeah anybody here care to read the story ruth go home and read it with detail somehow some way some some form some fashion bitterness was working with a friend was working with ruth her friend this friend bitterness friend and instead of a friend getting mad and upset the friend did what i'll go to the gleam the field i'll go get in the corner of the field and just pick up the trash i'll go do what i got to do to make sure naomi that we don't starve morrow whatever you want to call yourself today i'm gonna make sure that it's taken care of and lo and behold this ruth this friend was in the right place to where boaz could come by tell me about this one right here and where boaz could say who is she that's the one that's working with myra over there living oh bitterness that means that means that if she knows bitterness she's gonna turn bitter but she didn't she just kept working in the field taking home what she could listen to what boaz was doing y'all think this just was a story that was thrown in here no ruth was a moabite that come back to bethlehem judah she had no right to anything in the land but when pleasantness came back to the table and naomi's spirit began to rise up she began to say you know what baby you need to do you need to go find that one right there and you need to get up next to him and you need to build a connection to him and when you do that you then can have a kinsmen in this country that you don't deserve that was not coming to you but because of your friendship restoration can come and when restoration comes through the plan of god listen when boaz said who are you and she said i'm rude i'm the one that's helping naomi yeah but don't you have a kinsmen here i don't he said i tell you what there's a piece of property here that is in your lineage but you're not allowed to have it because elimelech is dead and everything there is laying out and you know what naomi said you hang on to what boa i said he says you know what i'm going to do i'm going to go to the gate of the city and when i get to the gate of the city i'm going to sit here and watch for the one who should have the right to this land oh jesus help us and when the boaz now who's an outsider now trying to take up for ruth he said hey what you're going to do with this land you know what's it and the guy's sitting there going wait a minute i don't need that land well i tell you what why don't we do with this the land and we attach it come on y'all get in the book of ruth and read it it tells you why don't we attach it then back to elimelech he says you know what let's do that that way i won't be held responsible for it and then all of a sudden naomi comes forward and says what you talking about said yeah that land that was theirs that's no longer yours now has been given back to you because of this friend that you've got working and it was ruth at that point who stood and it was hear it boaz that said i will take you to wife and when he married her all of a sudden everything was restored and brought back hear this but it did not stop there the god of all creation stood at the precipice of time and from the foundation of the world said my word will become flesh and it will dwell among my creation it was in jesus christ but it did not start there it went all the way back to obed and jesse and david who was crowned the king i've come to tell somebody if you want a future that's bright with revival for cornerstone apostolic church you need to find somebody that's bitter and you need to become their friend very easily stand with me please herb come on buddy very easily ruth with all of her righteous indignation she could have looked at naomi mara call her what you want and she could have said listen you left your land of bethlehem judah and you came to moab and all of your plans were dashed broken it but naomi i've now come back out of my country into this land with nothing do you think for one moment 2022 that god would bring the church his church to a place where all the broken and all the messed up and all the disease and all the disgusted things that people go through i'm not talking about these four walls i'm talking about these four walls and all the rest of them out there you can become bitter angry and mad and upset and probably justify some of it but i've come today to ask you family ruth naomi family is there somebody that used to worship with you and they no longer do could you be their friend there's somebody in your life that you once knew that loved god worshiped god served god with all joy and excitement but for some reason things happened i'm reminded multiple times in my life you all know tim back there he's a friend of mine for some reason we had a youth group about 30 or 40 strong as kids didn't we all night prayer meetings fundraisers all that stuff we'd worked together camped together walkathons 13 kilometers you didn't do it remember don't jump 30 or 40 strong how many still serve the lord how many are still serving the lord i don't know what happened i don't know why i'm still not i don't know i don't know i'm not better i'm not i don't know i guess i was just too dumb to walk away i don't know i i did walk away and i wonder god why and the mercy grace of god came back and allowed me to reconnect kathy how many in your youth group growing up are still serving god sister karen this all right you understand what i'm saying brother daniel people make choices things happen life unfolds and somebody who once was pleasant can turn bitter and they simply walk away never to be seen again i feel today in my spirit i felt this for many years that backsliders are going to be one of the greatest revivals and harvest that the church sees in this hour i'll tell you why listen carefully somebody who does not know the lord has not ever seen the miraculous things of god has never seen the apostolic working of the spirit of god the way the apostles doctrine and teaching was if somebody has not seen it they will question they'll scratch their head and they'll go huh some people say well that's easier because they didn't come in with nothing known and here they are i'm convinced that somebody who has been at the king's table and sat there and ate the king's meal when they decided to walk away and go do what they did for whatever reason whatever justification there is i know that there's something in their palate something in their in their tasting something in their spirit that says but you know what i still haven't found anything like the master's table because once you've eaten where the king serves now this is what i'm going to ask you to do the spirit of the lord has been here before i got here this morning i could barely drive my truck to get here and god was in my mind again in my spirit before i walked in this room some of you are sister stacy said it when she got up here to pray earlier the spirit of the lord is already here i want you right now church church family listen carefully i want you to right now research in your mind and in your spirit somebody somebody's families friends people that you known would you put them in your mind and in your heart right now that they no longer want to serve god or they're doing things that and it doesn't make sense and you're like god don't they realize the hour come on put them in your mind right now in your spirit right now i want you to begin to pray for them come on pray you know their names you were raised with them or they're in your family or they were in your youth group or they were in your class come on god you know where they are come on in the name of jesus in the name of jesus come on god bring it to my remembrance there is a place god there for them in the kingdom there is a place lord in the lineage god they can come to love and serve you jesus they can come on friend pray right now pray for that person pray for that family that individual maybe it's a co-worker maybe it's somebody that was in your life and now they've walked away and you're one where are they come on don't let mara don't let bitterness take over but instead allow allow the the friendship the connection that you have to be what it takes to bring them back into the kingdom to where they can be ready for the rapture be ready for heaven walk into the presence of god come on pray for them call out their name call out their name right now in the name of jesus in the name of jesus come on are you remembering anybody is there anybody in your mind in your heart god's put there now y'all listen to pastor for just a moment while you're thinking and praying about them listen to me carefully ruth knew naomi's situation mara situation but what ruth knew it was going to take to get things put back was work i got to go back to the field and pick up the gleanings of the the what they leave on the ground i've got to just i got to do what i do because that week somehow we got to make it through this transition time so this is what i want to ask you that name that family that friend that co-worker whatever it is that god put in your heart i want to know are you willing to come to an altar and work for it will you come will you work for it come on don't just come with with just a a haphazard and become say here i've come into the harvest i'm coming to work i'm coming to pray them oh i'm going to pray in faith i'm going to believe for them come on would you come on this altar is open there's plenty of room for everybody come on come on you know the battles that they've got to face you know what's going on in their lives come on pray right now come on intercede for them right now come on go pound on heavens go come on go pound on it right now lord jesus i i want you to reach for them come on come on lord god i've come believing you come on is there anybody here today that's willing to to go into the fire and pull them out in the name of jesus come on in the name of jesus oh god send them a friend lord or let me be that friend if they're a long distance god i know somebody can come to them and befriend them come on pray for it in the name of jesus this is the hour lord you're coming so very soon jesus we've got to work now while it's day night's going to come and no man can work oh come on somebody would you pray come on would you believe the lord for great things yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah come on naomi you can be restored bitterness can go away pleasantness could come back yes jesus oh come on that's right pray for that backslider god bring him home pray for that one that's walked away god bring him back into the fold pray for that one that doesn't believe anymore god will reveal himself again and bring right now into the presence of a holy god yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah god of glory the altar lord is the safest place you can do a work lord god yes you can jesus you can do a work lord yes you can restoration can't happen lord jesus jesus oh oh that's right come on pray for them oh god bring them back into the storehouse jesus bring them back lord restore them god change the bitterness to pleasantness oh come on that's right jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus jesus you can restore jesus you can make complete and whole i love you lord now this story of naomi and ruth it's very interesting in that the details of what happened to elimelech or to the boys it's not there that it just says they died are you with me so you and i in 2022 guess what we don't have any fingers to point at anybody we don't know because let me tell you the process to go from pleasant to bitter and bitter back to pleasant is this we can very quickly justify we can very quickly say but yeah or you don't know or this is what happened and if you only knew my story and on and on that goes and that's a cycle of confusion because what bitterness is is a what it's a root you can't cut the top off of bitterness and get it gone so if the enemy can confuse you well yeah you don't even know or he don't realize that you know this is what that one did and this one there come on there's if there's anybody that has any right to say anything about anything that was done in their lives it is jesus himself and yet without a word he simply says forgive them i don't know what they're doing things are going to change i am convinced that the reason david stood where he stood was because of the lineage he had come from one of those was ruth so this is what i'm gonna ask you to do it's 1 25 on a sunday it's nice and warm in here i want to ask you this week whoever that person is will you work for them i don't mean go and wash their car i don't mean go and make them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that'd be nice but i'm talking about work because you know where naomi was when ruth was in the field naomi was home and she was tending to her bitterness and it was ruth out there it's so hot i could have stayed with my moabite folk but i'm here in bethlehem now and i don't even know anybody here thank you y'all going to eat that can i yo y'all go no and every work every day of work that she worked boaz said wait a minute hold on i'll tell you what we're gonna do when she comes in for lunch and she's sitting on the side because she don't have enough y'all feed her read the story oh tell you what yeah y'all gonna be harvesting today don't just leave the junk but let her get all up and amongst you you know what ruth was doing she was building a basis for a king she didn't even know it because restoration was going to come to her mother-in-law and through that there was going to be a story that would be told for generations to come and when ruth stood there that day and held that baby and naomi came up next to her and held her up close held that child up close something transferred at that moment listen to me if ruth would have stayed in moab she would have died a widow but when she left her homeland to go and follow pleasantness god right now this week are you willing to work for that one that family that individual whoever that co or somebody who you know are you
