so many times in our lives we're faced with the inspiration of living through something and then we feel like that it is up to us to share the account that we just live through with others we have all had overwhelming experience in our lives and and basically it merits a story something to tell someone else much time in fact is spent in your circles every day talking and retelling the events in your life how many times for an example in a day's time out at work how many times do you stand around and talk with your coworker spend time with somebody on the line or the the cubicle across from you I I wonder sometimes to the guy that works at the same job years after years after years what kind of stories does he tell at year 35 and year 40 you'd think he'd be too storied out huh it's interesting that that all of us spend time recounting events in our Liv lives because we want others to share with us you know has there ever been a timeing you don't have to raise your hand because you might embarrass me has there ever been a time that you've heard somebody tell a story and they you go yeah boy I've heard this one before huh and and I I don't mind saying you know yeah I probably told you this and some of you are very gracious yeah or no well you know if I've already told you next time I'll add you to the story how's that that way it'll make it more interesting the other day I was standing in a store and I was waiting on them to open one of the aisles so I could get down through there and pick up some product for the the school over there on Great Road and three guys are standing there talking of course I don't have I don't know them I don't have any dog in their fight but they're telling stories after stories and I'm sitting there listening and I'm like man I wonder if they know one another cuz you could kind of just make up what you want want couldn't you I mean that's what I do to my grand child she don't know that I was never a fighter pilot in World War I you know she don't know how about the times that you heard Grandpa talk about his experiences in life and as as a child you'd sit mesmerized by the the sheer power of the story that he told or I don't know Uncle used to tell talk about he lost his favorite dog walking through the woods near the house and never found that dog poor dog and I'm like wow that's just terrible stories stories we all do that don't we imagine your dinner table if nobody told a story Lord bless this food thank you for it in Jesus name amen my daughter would have a cow CU all you'd hear is yall know she got to tell stories to fill in the background huh time and time and time again come on we're we're right here at the holiday season you guys are going to gather with family and friends and you're going to probably hear some of the same stories and guess what you're going to do you're going to enjoy it laugh your way through it and compare notes to last year right just in case you missed it humans are funny people I have a question have a question how many of the stories that you're about to tell or that you're going to hear how many of those are really worth retelling or are you simply looking for a way to connect or reconnect with someone are you looking looking for a manner in which you can add value to somebody's life or that you can receive something from somebody through their storytelling now as the older I get the more I recognize and realize how much I enjoy time spent with the elders why because they've got some of the coolest stories to tell and by and large they don't care how they tell them I enjoy the details the the way that that they they see it the way they understand it the way they bring it to detail to us let me ask you this question and some of you may not have any input on this but I'm going to ask it anyway does anybody have a story about September the 11th 2001 yeah a lot of you younger ones you don't even know except what history tells us but I I live through that I have a story to tell about that all right I got I got another for those who weren't available at that one how many have a story tell about April the 12th 2020 H yeah see we got stories to tell dates that stick in your mind you can recount where you were what you had on the place you were what you were doing on and on what about this you can remember 2001 September 11th or you can remember another day let me ask what did you have for lunch last Tuesday you may or may not remember but yet you can remember back to 20 years ago if you will how about the things in your life that are hard to recall and you want to bring them back the y'all stay with me today you want to bring back the account you want to be able to share the story The testimony the experience but you have a challenging time remembering the details anybody guilty of that the older you get now you're going now hold on I don't remember was it was it the I don't B some people man yeah I'm afraid to ask them questions about dates and all because they start back at let's see Genesis 1 in the beginning go and they go I'm here all four I'm sitting just waiting on an answer you know listen to me the fact that remains is that sometimes you can remember details dates and times they have shaped your life for an example for me I remember my wedding day I was there I was I was there and can nobody deny it we got a picture and everything I had hair and it wasn't gray huh I was half the man I am now I was there this lovely lady right here on the front she was there with me yeah that's right she she had less gray hair than twoo see how I worded that the birth the birth of my children I was there for those those are dates that's that just they're they're embedded I can tell stories about that I hey I remember the birth of my grandchild how cool that was I can remember the day that my father passed away huh I can remember the day that I left for basic training just graduated high school went out the door got on a bus got on a plane got on another bus and ended up at Fort lwood Missouri and screaming and yelling I remember those things there are certain things that stick out in my mind and they have shaped me into who I am today when you retell a story basically you're trying to give credibility and give life into your life and you're trying to share it with someone else you you want people to receive what you say come on we don't of times we don't recount the Terrible Things we don't tell the bad stories much we try to run away from them and replace them with the good ones unless somebody say can can I say this don't be offended pleas when somebody talks about man I'm not feeling good today and and and the response you get if you think you don't feel good well you ought to feel how I feel and as if my comparison to your story is not the same sorry you want others to understand that in retelling the events in your life and interaction you are building a relationship with them come on friend I don't I don't know I know more about most of you than I do about most of my family there's a reason for that is because they do their thing and I don't no challenge it's just what it is but we're all products of what life has given to us our our daily events our special moments our our good Goods bads ups and downs come on when you hear others talk about their story and you tell your story that at Great length you can hear somebody respond and talk about the good old days you know the uphill both ways Barefoot in the snow come on you got to understand there's a reason they tell that story because it gives them credibility now they did not go to school they did wear shoes and they lived on a flat land but the story doesn't sound near as good we're gathered here today for a time of worship I am certain that many of you have plans after the service today some of you are probably already there your day is going to be filled with opportunities and you're going to be able to make more memories every detail of your life you can retell it if you so choose to go back and do so you can actually this is an interesting thing about humans say we can add people to our story even if they weren't there come on nobody has to know right listen to me what happens friend is every day we live would y'all say this with me we live life say life life it's how we're shaped it's how we are developed it's how we grow because we are coming to the end of another year and and kids are going to be out of school for a while and some people are going to get time off for from work you're going to gather with your friends you're going to make memories again you're going to talk about some old ones it's going to get busy the space that's between you and your family is going to grow at a distance because life moves you in that direction you have to learn friend to grab every moment that you can and hold on to it as long as you can then you've got to learn how to let it go and become part of who you are you got to remember the good and you got to remember some of the bad can you give me just a moment here to share a story this is bible stuff we are in church after all Luke 1 verse one for as much as many have taken in hand to set forth an order the Declaration of those things which are most surely believed Among Us verse two even as they delivered them unto us which from the beginning were eyewitnesses and Ministers of the word verse three it seemed good to me also having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first to write unto thee in order most excellent the awfulest verse four that thou mightest know the certainty of those things wherein thou Hast been instructed this is a writer who's a doctor by by position he writes the words according to the Gospel of Luke he's pinning these words with great detail it's interesting to to note here in the very first portion of this letter this writing this account that he said I had perfect understanding I knew what I was experiencing I knew the stories I knew the events that I was seeing with my own eye and and then he begins to talk he said I'm writing to make sure that those who come after have an understanding also of the events that have transpired that will transpire that are going to come to pass now the awfulest that one of those great untangles if you will in scripture you can read several different theories about who theopus was and some say that he would have been a ruler at the time and simply invested into the church invested into the kingdom and and that's an uncertainty because that name only comes up a couple of times and so they really aren't sure but some theologians declare that theopus would have been an understanding of the body that was learning and growing and they would have understanding of how the church and how the body began to come together it is in this writing in Luke that you hear the awfulest but you also hear it in the book of Acts of course Luke was the author of acts as well what we notice here though is that I've come to understand what's going on and the events that have passed allow me a few moments here the events that are taking place I'm writing because I want to make sure that you know that I understand what I'm doing I'm not foolishly writing this down I'm not flipping coin trying to figure out what it's about but with great detail I'm going to tell you some stories what Luke is saying here because I want to instruct you so that you'll know how to pass along these events to others now for clarification sake I always have to make sure that I standing in the right congregation today is there anybody here that was alive during the days of Luke no firsthand account okay all right now I didn't say you felt like it I say you were okay there's great detail here that he goes through and he begins to write about an old fellon named Zacharias he had a wife whose name was Elizabeth now according to again you can go in and read here in the Book of Luke he goes through great detail in discussing and passing along the information of how how an angel came and while he was doing the order of ministry in the temple an angel came to him and and it was so startling he said Zachariah you you're going to have a son it scared him so bad if you will he was so shaken that that he simply stammered and stuttered and because he did not grasp what the angel had said guess what happened the Bible I was going to call this today the dumb but I didn't want anybody get offended but the Bible says he went dumb which means he could not speak imagine going into doing his job of course you got to go through history and read the history of how that they would have done it he goes into the temple and he's doing what is his command what is his position what is his job and when he comes out they're asking him man it took you so long we know how long it should take we know the stories you've told us about it come on what's going on here Zachariah he's standing there going got nothing no words come out no vocalization nothing like that according to that story though there was something that began to unfold at that moment God had a plan in store for the world listen carefully how John says it John 1 and6 there was a man sent from God whose name was everybody say it John the same came for a witness to Bear Witness of the light that all men through him might believe he was not that light but was sent to Bear witness of that light that was the True Light which lith every man that cometh into the world verse 10 he was in the world and the world was made by him and the world knew him not he came unto his own his own received him not but as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God even to them that believe on his name verse 13 which were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor the will of man but of God 14 and the Word was made flesh dwelt among us we beheld his glory the glory as of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth John bear witness of him and cried saying this was he of whom I spake he that cometh after me is preferred before me for he was before me and of his fullness have I we have all we received and Grace for Grace 17 for the law was given by Moses but Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ no man hath seen God at any time the only begotten son which is of the bosom of the father he hath declared him we see here in the writing according to John that there was a man sent from God this is that son of Zacharias and Elizabeth that spoken of in this Christmas season if you will it ought not simply be in the month of December but we ought to understand and truly comprehend that what John was declaring was exactly what Luke had declared in that God's plan was coming to fruition on planet Earth and what John declared in his writing was this is that he was the light it wasn't John but John was coming to represent the beginning of that story and he begins to tell the story and he begins to explain it in great detail you can find it in the birth of Jesus how Luke talks about it and how that the understanding comes that when Elizabeth is pregnant she hid herself away five months she was embarrassed about the whole thing because of her age she knew that in the ministry that Zacharias was in that it could be a stumbling block therefore she put herself in a closet it if you will away from y'all hang on to me a moment it's a season and all of a sudden when this young Mary comes on the scene to see her family something in the Holy Ghost begins to move and the Bible declares it the baby John leapt in Elizabeth because why because the glory of God had shown up on the scene come to tell somebody you want to talk about a story it's a story where worth talking about I know it might seem insignificant and you could get very sidetracked with the holiday season and the lights and the bells and whistles but I've come to tell you every day when you climb out of bed you need to recognize and retell the story thus says the word of the Lord there was a man sent from God whose name was John and what John began to preach was simply this uh prepare your heart uh get your life in order understand there is a place uh called Heaven uh understand remission of sins uh is exactly what you need in this life listen carefully according to the word of God John brought a change to the entire landscape nobody was preaching this nobody was declaring this John is born out of the divine plan of God to this old couple if you will go on through the story you'll find out that even when they came to bring and dedicate the child that everybody said he ought to be called Zachariah just like his dad and finally Elizabeth said no that can't be and they said well Zacharias what do you want us to call him and he simply opened his mouth and there he had not been able to speak all he could say was we're going to call him John hey he spoke that's right why because for nine months I've been dealing with this separation not understanding how the will and the way of God is but in my mind and in my heart I've been retelling this story every day I was standing in the temple I was offering incense at the right time and lo and behold this Angel come there ain't no man alive that would ever understand it there's no way anybody could understand it but it happened to me it's the same thing that Mary had to come to after that angel had come to her who am I that you would do it you found favor Mary but who am I and lo and behold she had to come to the understanding as you have said it so let it be in me so when Elizabeth that day standing in her house the Holy Ghost moved upon John and when that child was brought before the elders to Dedicated his voice said we'll call him John why because something is happening in the world and it's a story wor telling others about listen to it friend Isaiah talked about it way back when Isaiah 40:3 the voice of him that crith in the wilderness prepare you the way of the Lord make straight in the desert a highway for our God every Valley shall be exalted Every Mountain and Hill shall be made low the Crooked shall be made straight the rough place is plain verse five and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and All Flesh shall see it together for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it stand standing here today you sitting there today in this Christmas season the time when we celebrate the Risen Savior our world is clamoring about trying to figure out what to do and how to do it and where is the joy and the reality of all that's going on this particular week I y'all know how I do things I go through and I read current events and I try to understand what's happening in our world I just read yesterday in fact that a church in North or South Carolina baptized 140 people in one service a Baptist Church there and the guy said this is unprecedented I simply said if anybody wants to be baptized y'all come on and 140 people showed up to be baptized I read that in scratching my head saying there is a hunger within the heart of humanity what the y'all listen to preacher today what the enemy is trying to do is trying to Sid swipe the testimony of God but I come to tell somebody it's a story worth repeating I once was lost in sin but Jesus took me in and then a little light from heaven filled my soul see I was there that night at an altar at Junior High Youth Camp when the forgiving power of the Holy Ghost began to work in my life and as I had my hands lifted to Heaven sweat soaked body I be to speak in another Lang was as the spirit of God gave utterance I was that's a story wortht telling I was there when I called my mom and my sister and my dad and say y'all know what I receed the Holy Ghost tonight at Camp oh it's a story worth telling why because it happened to me I come to tell somebody if the devil can silence your witness he has one but you ought to declare every day when you climb out of your bed uh you ought to get up and declare it uh I have been prepared for this hour I have been prepared for this moment uh there's no reason to run away there's no reason to drop the towel now there's no reason to silence your voice but now more than ever before Look What the Lord Has Done I've got a story to tell uh he put me in my right mind uh he speaks to me every day uh I get a talk to him every day uh he wakes me up in the morning uh he's there every step I take uh there's nowhere I can go uh that he's not already there there's nothing I can say or do uh that he doesn't already know it it's a story wortht telling you were prepared for this moment I'm watching the clock we're okay this Greatest Story Ever Told it's the birth of Jesus agreed but what about your new birth is it worth telling I believe that your children mom and dad need to hear about the testimony of how God changed your life they need to hear about the good old days they need to know that the way of the Lord is didn't pop up last night my mom of course I talk about her a lot cuz she's she's interesting lady said Mom how and why in the world did y'all ever come into the apostolic truth of course she tells me the story and the older she gets the better the story gets cuz I get to help her fill in the blanks Mom this is where I come in right now not long ago I I just called her on a Monday mom I got a question for you I I know that my granny and my P that your parents were were foundational in one of the apostolic churches in the Middle Tennessee area I know that they help with tent meeting they help build the physical building I know that they were part of that my my sweet little granny had the revelation of the Oneness of God and it just came to her in prayer and it was just there she had the understanding of tithing giving her 10% to the Lord before she ever had a church to give to she understood the power of time spent with God in the word she'd walk around where she worked with her Bible under her arm and that day that the Evangelist came through putting up the tent people on her job said hey Lily that crazy man's down on the corner you might want to go see him he believes the same junk you do and after work she walks down there opens her Bible he's driving t t stakes in the ground and do you baptize this way in Jesus name he said absolutely she said baptize me I've been looking for you listen to me carefully so I called my mom and Mom I know that story but was there anyone else in the family mom said wow that's a great question she said your paw your grandfather's father father and mother came into the church at that same time oh really I never knew that and I said what about Granny's family yeah and she named some names and I never knew that a few weeks went by Brother Don I went to her house go check on her and said Mom I I talked to you not long ago about Heritage and my family and I want those pictures if you've got them so now in my office sits a picture of my grandparents and my great-grandparents who were in the apostolic truth back in the early 1900s I see that might not mean a thing to any of you but when I retell this story y'all better know that my little granddaughter is going to know the Heritage that's been given to her you want to know why listen friend if you ever never stop telling about what Jesus has done in your life the enemy will not fire a shot he will simply say you were prepared for it but you let it go I refuse in this hour to let the enemy lie to me and tell me you know you can't say that in public you know you're not allowed to pray in public you know you can't offend them and you know no listen to me friend say what you want they're going to do what they're going to do but I believe in an Old Rugged Cross I believe in the power of a is and savior I believe when I got out of bed this morning that the benefits of the Lord were there he has an expected end my day I know that the steps of a righteous man are ordered of God I might not understand it but I know this it is not by happen stance he does not roll the dice and simply see how it's going to take off no but he knows his power his presence his love his ability to change your life he did that for you come on I talked about it several weeks ago the charism of the Holy Ghost it is more than just Charisma but is more than just a smile and a thumbs up uh but it is an impartation of the spirit of God uh and when that Grace works in your life friend it's bigger than anything you can comprehend uh but it is the God of all of creation uh who came and change your life uh that's a story worth telling uh that's the details you need to remember that's the way of God that you need to share with somebody y'all need to hear the preacher today you know why it's important because sometimes I got to give it back to God uh God you said that I'd be saved you said my children would be saved uh you said my wife would be healed uh you said it God uh you prophesied over me Lord uh somebody spoke it into existence I still retell that story Hallelujah Brother Don would you come hallelujah hallelujah for many years the Lord y'all can stand if you want to don't matter I'm standing for many years for whatever reason the Lord has allowed me to be involved in other people's lives some good some bad and some real ugly I've been able to by the grace of God help young ministers I've been able to know older ministers I've been able to to have connection with some of the coolest people that anybody could ever meet I don't mind saying that when my phone rang the other day and it was my dear friend brother Austin the very first thing that I thought of is what gracious people God allowed me to know full of the Holy Ghost love God serve God for years decades my mind then went back quickly to the time that I got to meet Don and Bug Freeman the day my wife and I sat across the lunch table with the Dem merchants people that I've gotten to know in my life the sister Hedges y'all didn't know her I'm sorry brother tedric my first Pastor growing up brother tedric passed away couldn't breathe at inisa and it would just it it just wreak his I mean just wrecked his body brother TK passed away and 3 hours later one of the older ministers in the church brother Emanuel Tharp whose name birth name was Emmanuel and he was on the battlefield in World War I and got cut in half he told the story how many times Tim he laid there in his own blood and said God if you'll get me home I'll never leave you when he got home he changed his name to Manuel instead of Emmanuel as he said I'll never be like God some of these men begin to cross my mind to him and I thought of these people that I've known that were such prayer warriors I'm not name dropping today I'm telling you God has allowed me an incredible testimony and it's worth telling General Conference several years ago I'm standing minding my own business and this big old Entourage of people come in and they're sitting in front they're trying to get into the Pew in front of me and I'm trying to watch up front and here they come in and they're just shaking hands and greeting everybody I'm like don't y'all know this is church I was about to say something but it was Sister Vesta mang and I couldn't and she got in there and got all of her stuff sat down and she turned around she said I'm I'm so sorry to be in your way and she reached out and grabbed me huged me and kissed me on the jaw and she said now you can tell everybody V to kissed you I still haven't watched it I was reminded this week of the testimonies I don't mind saying I my age have concerns about the Next Generation will they love the Lord like I think I do will they serve God like I feel like I do several years back I asked that question to an elder and I said how do how will I know that they'll get it how will I know that my preaching or my life or the events that's happened in my life will matter he said first of all you're nobody yes sir you're right second second of all this is God's kingdom not yours so Mom and Dad you need to understand something about this service today these young ones are looking for the generation in front of them because they're going to want to know how to do for the generation coming behind them and it's all in the testimony and how you recount tell the story brother Hedrick asked Michelle and I to be youth leaders Murphy brur way back when we had dark care and I said how what do I how do we don't know how we've not done this he said this is simple you love them you pour into them when the time comes they're going to pour into your children so you better make sure they get it V yes he said you make sure they get it because they're going to be the ones put it in them and the next one's going to put it in them and all guys this you you have been prepared for this day what was John's message that he came screaming out of the Wilderness anybody remember prepare get it ready get it ready come on we're living in the greatest day of the church ever don't you think for one moment the church is weak insignificant and frail and going by the wayside no sir that former and latter rain are coming together and God's doing a work in this hour y'all want to know why I added to the church prayer a couple years ago God let Chattanooga have Revival of the Oneness and the revelation of who you are I believe every congregation in this city can speak in tongues as the spirit gives utterance I believe baptism in Jesus name can touch every church congregation every synagogue every Temple God's spirit can move there's no limit to God's spirit how do I know that cuz I got a story of how it happened in me and you've got one how it happened in you would you lift your hand right now and just thank the Lord for what he has done and what he is doing in your life come on every mouth right now ought to be full of praise offering it up unto the Lord oh come on that's right Lord God I thank you for the Heritage I you are preparing me Lord you have put something in my life God you gave me a testimony and a witness Lord Jesus what I've been through God is not in vain what my life has been through Lord is not just because but you are worth working God in my life you are moving Lord in my family you are blessing Lord my home you are anointing my health God you are preparing a road in front of me Jesus you are God I will follow your word I will love your word god oh come on somebody this altar is open for those who need time to pray right now come on would you come and pray Lord Jesus prepare me God let my my testimony and my witness Lord be strong enough that I don't give in to the things of the world but I stay true to you oh come on church that's right come on church it's prayer time in the house of the Lord oh come on it's prayer time in the house of the Lord oh that's right come on God's been good to you come on you might be in the biggest struggle of your life right now stop thinking about what you don't what is not think about what God's done give him thanks for that come on lift up his name for that he's never left you he's never forsaken you he's never walked away from you come on Mom and Dad your children need to see you worshiping the Lord in the good and the bad they need to see you blessing his name that's right come on in the name of Jesus he's prepared you for this hey yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that's right that's right God you've been good God you've been good Jesus you've been good you've been good Jesus you've been mighty good to me God oh come on let try lift him up Church magnify the name of Jesus come on church family God's good God is Holy God is worthy me come on lift up the name of Jesus Will Worthy is your name Lord Worthy is your name Jesus I love you Lord I trust you Lord you've been good to me Jesus you've been good to me Jesus you've been faithful Lord God yeah come on Church he's a good God he is a mighty good God reach over pray with somebody close to you right now come on let's bind together right now in the name of Jesus hey yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah come on let's try get a hold of somebody else pray with them Spirit of the Living God touch their life you are preparing them Lord you are making a way Jesus Hallowed Be Your Name Lord Hallowed Be Your Name Jesus come on Tiffany that's right run into his presence come on run into his presence run into his presence I come to love you I come to bless you come on Ethan that's right run into his presence you've been good to me God you've been good to me Jesus holy is the Lord Worthy is the name of Jesus gracious is the name of Jesus I will bless your name I will I will bless your name Jesus oh come on go pray with somebody else go believe with someone else come on let try let the prayer of faith heal the sick come on let the word of your testimony work today come on God's been good to you hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah come on God's good God God's good God's good come on if he's been good to you lift your hands to him and love him right now Worthy is your name Worthy is your name Lord Worthy is your name hey yeah glorious Savior Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus How I Love You Lord How I Love You Lord blessed be the name of Jesus yeah Jesus you're good oh that's right come on love the Lord Jesus you're worthy he's preparing you making you making your right Jes Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Hallelujah Lord gracious father are you thankful for the church come on are you thankful for what the Lord's done what he's doing in your life before you go home one more time I challenge you lift your hands to the Lord God it's all about you Jesus oh come on that's right open your mouth talk to the Lord I I thank you Lord for open doors of opportunity I thank you Lord that you are the way maker and you are moving in my life you are making a difference in who I am you you are changing me Lord every day God I can Rec count Lord your grace and goodness to me oh Lamb of God I love you right hallelujah hallelujah I Love You Lord and I I trust you Jesus Jesus I thank you savior oh Lamb of God thank you Lord Jesus I love you Lord thank you all so much for being in the house of the Lord today as you leave here and you go about your busy week this week and in the next week come on it's about him tell everybody you can the events that have happened in your life amen that testimony is what he's prepared you for and it's what's going to be in front of you and you're going to continue amen I love you guys stay as long as you want pray if you need to leave the Lord don't forget all
