would you lift up your voice to the Lord and give him great praise in this room what a joy it is to be in the house of the Lord with the people of God my goodness it's a real honor and a high privilege to be with all of you today and uh they don't have to ask me very much or very long or push me very much to get me to stick around in Maryville Tennessee I'll tell you that you are so blessed to be part of a great Apostolic Church there is nothing greater than the local church that teaches us and preaches to us and what a beautiful ceremony we saw this morning with these precious little babies when my kids and grandkids were born I prayed and as we dedicated to them to the Lord I just prayed that God would put in them a heart that always cried out after him because this is important what we do thank you for being the people that you are thank you for loving this great pastoral team that serves you brother and sister Carpenter and and their family and and all of the leadership in this church it's just stellar I could say a whole lot but you're still standing so I won't so why don't we do this would you lift up your hands and would you lift your voice a little bit higher than your hands and saturate this Sanctuary with honor and worship to the Lord I worship you God we exalt you today Jesus we exalt you today we exalt you today amen you may be seated Thomas Blackshear II the son of an Air Force Captain grew up in Atlanta drawing was all I ever liked to do he said after his graduation from two prestigious art schools in Chicago Thomas was recruited by Hallmark cards as an illustrator and he was very successful received many many accolades but he was still dissatisfied and he decided to pursue a career in Fine Art now today he's known for wonderful artwork with much of it with African-American themes and and he's done artwork on several series series of postage stamps right here in the U.S but he's best known for his religious artwork that today adorns a lot of churches and pastors studies and homes Coat of Many Colors is one of his works it's inspired by Revelation 5 verse 9. it talks about the Redeemed coming out of every Kindred and tongue and people and nation and it portrays Jesus adorned with a robe made from fabrics and flags from all around the globe and I love that work because it reminds me of the great cause of missions and it reminds me that we are part of a multi-generational multi-ethnic multilingual multinational church it's amazing forgiven forgiven is my personal favorite it hangs in my office at home it portrays a despairing man with a mallet in one hand and a large spike in the other symbolizing that he is responsible for Jesus death on the cross and yet Jesus is the one holding up that broken man and at Jesus feet if you look real close I've done it many times our broken chains and in the place where his blood has fallen beautiful lilies are starting to grow aren't you grateful for the change Jesus makes in our lives it's amazing Watchers in the night also hangs in our home it's a powerful image of a massive Angel providing covering and protection over a small boy who is sleeping peacefully we've had over the course of 40 Years of ministry there's been a few times when parents have come to me and said my little boy or my little girl they're really struggling they have nightmares and they have night terrors and they they can't sleep and every single time I've met with that little child and I've printed out a copy of this painting and added two verses to it and given it to them and prayed with them and said Jesus is going to handle that for you Psalm 91 verse 11 he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways and I've always also included Psalm 127 and 2 he giveth his beloved sleep it was just a few weeks ago one of the moms in our church her son is a young 20-something now she came to me she said pastor Raymond do you remember giving my boy that little print with those two scriptures I said I do she said he was so tormented he was up every night crying and he was just afraid of everything and the night after you gave him that prayer he hasn't had a tormented night since he slept he's now a young adult let me tell you there is no sense of you being up pacing the floor worried over stuff in your life not when Jesus is looking after you not when you've got a God who can dispatch the angels for you oh Mr Blackshear he said I hope you're reminded every time you look at this painting no matter what you are going through is God's child there are angels under the Lord's command who are close by and ready to assist you and I would say I wholeheartedly agree one of the compound names of God in the Old Testament is Jehovah in Hebrew that's how you say it in English we would say the Lord of hosts and that title makes more than 250 appearances in the Old Testament scriptures mostly in the writing of the prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah and Zechariah and haggai and Malachi all of them especially love that term they use it dozens of times in their prophetic writing they especially love to say the Lord of hosts Jehovah now sabaot is a military word sometimes it's translated armies and it means to wage war So when you say the Lord of hosts when the Jews said Jehovah sabahote they were talking of God as a captain or a commander in Supreme control of the hosts of Heaven you can read in your Bible the Prophet Daniel and the Apostle John they each caught a glimpse of these innumerable Angel armies here's what Daniel said thousand thousands ministered unto him and Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand stood before him John said and the number of them was Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand and thousands of thousands and the writer of Hebrews when he wanted to get in the ACT he just said we're surrounded by an innumerable company of angels that's our God so when Elisha's terrified servant came running into his humble little home and he said to the Prophet The Mighty Syrian Army has surrounded your Humble House Prophet Elisha that old man of God he didn't Flinch he didn't break a sweat he didn't get nervous he just replied with calm Assurance to that servant because he knew something Second Kings six and he answered fear not for they that be with us are more than they that be with them and Elisha the old Prophet Just prayed a very simple prayer Lord I pray thee open his eyes that he may see and the Lord opened the eyes of that young servant and when he looked the second time behold the mountain all around that Humble House of that old Prophet was full of horses and Chariots of Fire round about Elisha they weren't there to protect Elisha's Barn they weren't there to protect his little home they were here because the prophet of God was in that house and the angel of the Lord in camps round about them that fear Him if I could pray a prayer for you like that all Prophet prayed it would be like that Lord Open the Eyes of the people of God because around you and your family and your house and your kids and your grandkids the god of the Angel armies has dispatched his angels to look after the people of God ah goodness and so several of the newer translations and paraphrases of scripture they accurately translate Jehovah sabahote as God of the Angel armies that's one magnificent image the Angel armies stand ready to do God's bidding at any moment but God has given them a special assignment they are commissioned to minister to you his people Psalm 103 bless the Lord ye his angels that excel in strength that do his Commandments hearkening under the voice of his word let me pause there to say we don't command angels but God commands Angels so we don't pray to Angels we're not trying to see Angels none of that weird stuff but here's what we know if we'll pray to God who commands the Angels he can dispatch angels to look after what's messing with you bless ye the Lord all his hosts ye Ministers of his that do his pleasure bless the Lord all his Works in all places of his Dominion bless the Lord O My Soul yes that is the psalm that begins with bless the Lord O my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name bless the Lord O My Soul forget not all his benefits he heals all your diseases do you understand that Jesus could say go there and an angel with healing in his hands could show up and touch you in a hospital room or in your home and instantly you can be healed of everything that's wrong with your body that's our God Psalm 34 I got ahead of myself the angel of the Lord in Tampa round about them that fear Him and delivereth them do you understand right now because we're here there's a ring of automobiles around this building in the parking lot but if you could see with your spiritual eye far greater than a light nice circle of nice automobiles there are angels that stand guard they're not here to protect the sprinkler system or the carpet they're here because you're here and you are the people of God my mind the writer of Hebrews said are they not all ministering spirits and they are sent forth the minister for them for them for you and for me who shall be The Heirs of salvation the angels are pretty sick for the carpenter they're pretty cool they're pretty awesome angels are described in the Bible as mighty and strong and glorious and fearsome and wise and flaming angels in the Bible they move swiftly from place to place Angels fight and shout and speak they go before and they go behind they can bless or destroy they can cut down storms and they can cut down enemies and they can cut out sickness with equal ease because they are assigned by God they have that tremendous power not because they're anything in themselves but because they're propelled by God's word and they move in his command and they operate under his great Authority and that's why God's people in both Testaments they were transformed when they recognized something the god of the Angel armies is fighting for us they instantly became fearless and courageous because they knew Jehovah Saba oat was on their side and it was simply a matter of perspective because with a God that big everything else becomes a lot smaller now here's the point this morning when the Angels showed up it was all over for the enemy all God had to do nod his head and when the Angels took off and landed in the middle of a situation it was all over when the Angels showed up battles were won and armies were put to flight when the Angels appeared walls came down and territories were conquered when the Angels Came on the scene Giants fell and chains were loose and lions and mouths were shut and prison doors were opened and bondage was broken and God's children were miraculously delivered out of all their fiery trials because after all the angels are God's Supernatural Army and they are Fierce Fighters and they are Mighty Warriors so I speak to you this morning no matter how long you've endured your struggle or your sickness or your trial when the Angels step in your trial will be over instantaneously your sickness will be healed instantaneously in just one moment of time because it's God's angels and he is Jehovah sabahoot the God of the Angel armies and we can see the role of the angels in God's Promise To His People Israel just before they were getting ready to head to the promised land here's what God Said Exodus 23 for mine Angel somebody say my angel shall go before thee and bring thee in unto the amorites and the Hittites and the parasites and the Canaanites and the eye bites and the jebusites and I'm going to cut them all off I'm going to push them out of the way and I'm going to move you into that land that I've given you the Angels when the Angels show up it's over in an instant when the Angels show up we just dance and rejoice and shout and sing because the Angels delivered us but I got to tell you that in the world of High School Varsity Sports there's a casual term that's used to describe the second string or the reserve squad or the second best lineup the junior team the minor league the substitute players they are the bench they are the backup and so we casually behind their back sort of call them the B Team if you don't know what that is you were probably on the B team in high school the B team will get the job done but it will probably be harder and it'll probably take longer because they're not quite as skilled they're not quite as experienced they're not quite as powerful as The A Team I don't know if you've ever noticed this because I don't live here I'm from a foreign country I don't know if you've ever noticed this in your life but I've noticed it in mine I don't ever know I don't know if you've noticed it in the lives of friends but I've noticed it in the lives of some of my friends I've noticed that when God wants to deliver his people sometimes he sends in the angels and it's over in a second it's like an instantaneous Miracle sometimes he sends in the Angels The A-Team and sometimes I just got to tell you in my life at least sometimes God sends in the B Team because it just seems to take longer and I can't figure that out you say do you think God has a B Team oh yeah I do same chapter of Exodus chapter 23 verse 28 and I will send Hornets before thee I rest my case your honor I will send Hornets bees before thee which shall drive out the high bite and the Canaanite the hittite from before thee watch this I will not drive them out from before thee in one year unless the land become desolate and the Beast of the field multiply against thee by little and by little I will drive them out from before thee until thou be increased and inherit the land so God has a beating he said I will send the Hornets before you and he gives that promise here in Exodus 23 when the law is given by Moses just after they've left Egyptian bondage but he doesn't just say it there he says it again in Deuteronomy 7 when the law is repeated by Moses just before they enter the promised land and then God States it one final time after the land of Canaan is conquered in Joshua 24 when he wants to remind them of something I know you think you've had an amazing Victory but it took several years for you to conquer this land and in that process I don't want you to think that you did this all by yourself just because it took a while I was working the entire time just because I didn't send in the a team and it was all over in one hour doesn't mean it wasn't me all the time I said in the B team I sit in the Hornets before you and they drove the people out little by little by little and you didn't even notice but it was your God at work all the time in your life and hornets before you every time the word Hornet is found in the Old Testament it is mentioned in the context of God chasing Israel's enemies out of the land of Canaan now some commentators think because there's always some weird commentator that thinks something some commentators say well that's just a figure of speech maybe it's symbolic of a plague but I don't think it's really Hornets or bees well I just got one thing to say to those dudes since the lamb that God gave his people was a land flowing with milk and there were bees there somewhere we know that bees were there and even today Israel's home to several varieties of wasps and hornets the Judean town of Zora which is mentioned in Joshua 15 the name of that town literally means town of hornets there were bees in the promised land there were an abundance of stinging insects and Middle Eastern Hornets they're a little larger than the ones we have here in North America some are poisonous some live in holes in the ground and if they're Disturbed they viciously swarm and they attack whoever they perceive as a threat and they've been described in some of the old Jewish literature as driving both men and livestock to Madness their stings in sufficient quantity would certainly cause death now in the ancient world they didn't have all the the knowledge that we have with medical science they didn't know about anaphylactic shock and all of that stuff but the horrific pain of multiple stings combined with the symptoms of swelling and allergic reactions you can only imagine what kind of panic and fear that would have cost so when God says I will send Hornets before you it's certainly plausible that he could have directed the Hornets in Canaan to become aggressive enough at his command to literally drive out the inhabitants of the land because there's precedent in the scripture there are many places that God used creatures that he had created to do his bidding a donkey spoke to Balaam frogs and flies and gnats tormented the Egyptians when Pharaoh refused to let God's people go and God even prepared a big fish to swallow a rebellious Prophet named Jonah so it's not outside of scriptural precedent for God to use actual Hornets to drive out the enemy of his people it was like the plagues of Egypt all over again this time on the Canaanites now God let us know in Deuteronomy 7 just why he used those little tiny insects he could have used Lions he could have used Bears he could have used something else but he tells Israel in Deuteronomy 7 that the Hornets will attack their enemies quote until they that are left and hide themselves from thee be destroyed you see God knew that Hornets can Nest anywhere under logs under rocks even underground they can live in the smallest of hiding places so no place was safe for the Canaanites if God's Hornets were hunting them down and here's what I need you to think about with me this morning I know it took longer for the Hornets to drive them out it would have been way easier a whole lot faster if the Angels had shown up on the day that Israel first set foot in the promised land and the angels just chased everybody away or Slaughter all the enemies that did happen in other instances but in this case God said no I'm going to send my B team in it'll take longer it'll be a little more of a struggle it'll be a little harder on you and sometimes you won't even realize that I'm at work because you're not watching for that you're waiting for the angels to show up you're waiting for the angels to just come on in and just deliver you in an instant but don't you ever mistake it just because I work a little slower doesn't mean I'm not working just because I choose a different route doesn't mean I'm not working just because your sickness still hasn't been healed or you're still going for tests that doesn't mean God has left you alone with just the doctors he's walking with you his angels are around you and sometimes he sends his B team in to do the work and God told him exactly why he said I'm not going to do this miracle all at once because a vacant land would become desolate and then the beasts of the field the Lions and the Bears and everything else they'll multiply and you'll have a bigger problem than you started with so I'm going to drive out the enemy and I'm going to do my work literally little by little until you become strong and until you're able to inherit the land so God's B team took longer but the Deliverance was just as much of a miracle as if the A-Team had shown up on the very first day this is so cool this is sick brother Carpenter the people of Israel were protected not by one flying Guardian but by two flying Guardians the angels and the Hornets The A-Team and the B team now I know that the Angels always did the heavy lifting they fought for Israel in battles they did miraculous things but God let the Hornets handle the small stuff they that allowed Israel to conquer that territory little by little so they could acclimate to it so they could grow into it and it kept steady pressure on their enemies until this is so awesome the enemies vacated the land all by themselves and Israel didn't even have to lift a finger some precious little sweet little elderly Canaanite couple just sitting on their porch enjoying the beautiful sunshine and they've done it a hundred times sipping their coffee and all of a sudden the old man goes and then his wife goes and then they get looking around and there's a swarm a Hornets coming at them there's Hornets in the kitchen there's Hornets in the bedroom there's Hornets in the doghouse there's Hornets everywhere and they just after a couple of days of that they just say I don't know what changed but we got to get out of here we can't live here you can't even sleep they're stinging us all the time look at my hand it's swelling up look at my face it's all swollen and so they picked up packed up and vacated the land and Israel just lost him to homes they hadn't built and Vineyards they didn't plan and firms they didn't build they walked into all of that and God gave them that but here's why you got to remember if God hadn't told them about the Hornets they would have assumed they did it all by themselves look what we did you didn't do that God was working no no when God works it's all over in an hour not always sometimes God will let you walk through a valley sometimes God will let you go through a time of sickness sometimes God will let your family go through a little bit of turmoil and you're praying like this God where are you God do you still hear me and if you could hear the voice of God he'd say I'm still at work I'm just doing it little by little because I want you to grow I'm doing it little by little because I want you to get strong I'll do it a little by little because when you get out of this trial and you look back down the road here's what you're going to say I've never been closer to God I've never had more faith I've never been stronger Give the Lord Praise in this room Israel just because the Angels didn't show up doesn't mean God isn't working for you just because you didn't get the miracle you wanted doesn't mean God isn't giving you the miracle that you need see Israel like us we can be in danger making two faulty assumptions one is that if the Angels don't show up and it doesn't just blow up and we have a blowout in service if that doesn't happen we assume God didn't answer our prayer nothing could be further from the truth or Worse we could assume that it was our own efforts that accomplished all of this it was our own efforts that conquered the land and put the enemies to flight they might have even assumed something worst of all my life is just at the mercy of random circumstances your life is not at the mercy of random circumstances when you're a child of God your life it's not in your hands it's not in the devil's hands it's not in the hands of the world your life isn't even in your own hands it's in God's hands God's B team was at work the entire time for Israel and they didn't even know it and so God said Moses I want you to tell them about it I want you to tell them that even when they don't see it I'm working even when they don't feel it I'm working I never stop I never stop working I never stop I never stop working we sing the song way maker Miracle Worker promise keeper light in the darkness my God that is who you are so when I don't see his hand I trust his plan I wish somebody let out a shout of praise to the god of the Angel Armies oh God said I'm going to send my B Team before you sometimes the miracle won't happen in a moment the Deliverance won't be instantaneous the battle won't be over in a day the enemy won't give up without a fight but you mark it down God is working and you will see it God is working and it will happen here's the challenge though sometimes you won't see much progress some days it'll seem like you're losing the war some weeks it'll feel like your strength is gone sometimes you'll think God has forgotten your name but God is working and it will happen oh my goodness there may be long nights and there may be dreary days and there may be painful circumstances and there might be spiritual opposition and there may be seemingly endless trials but I tell you on the authority of the word of God God is working for you God is working for your family God is working on that backslider God is working on your health situation God is working and it will happen even if the A Team doesn't show up that'll be nice but as long as God sends in the B Team I'm content to be in the hand and the plan of God stood here with this wonderful Church in the middle of February it was your marriage retreat and this great church under the direction of your pastor my wonderful friend this church I don't know there was well upwards of a hundred people that said they were going to pray and fast for my sweet wife Beverly we were a month into a cancer diagnosis she had a surgery on June the first now we would have just assumed the A-Team showed up that weekend and I went home was like whoa but they didn't God seems to send the B Team a lot with me I'm not sure why she went in for a surgery on the first of June and a few weeks later as a regular follow-up we had to go in and meet with the oncologist that's just standard and we went in and the oncologist Beverly was I could tell she was anxious that day and we went in sat in a little waiting room there was another lady there she was so sweet and she was she was trying to do her best to help and encourage she was another patient and she was telling us how many treatments she'd had and how many months she'd been going with this and and I you know she was so sweet but I'm thinking you're not helping because Beverly was anxious and she did not want that and the oncologist came in and said Not only would I not require chemotherapy I don't even recommend it in your case and Beverly sends her greetings she's still dealing with a couple of little things and getting through all of that and it's kind of the after effects of going through surgery but she sends her greetings and her love today because God sent the B team in it didn't happen in a day but over the last six months let me tell you it happened in Jesus name I thank God for every doctor and nurse and hospital and modern treatment but I thank God most of all that when his people pray he steps in and he does the miraculous he may use your nice doctor he may use that diligent nurse he may use that fine hospital but you are a child of God and he is making a way for you even when you don't see it or hear it or feel it God is in charge of your life music come on back with you God doesn't always give us a reason but God does leave us with a promise here's one of them there's many in the word of God Romans 8 28 and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God that's us to them who are called according to his purpose that's us God never promised us that everything in your life would be good but here's what he promised it doesn't matter whether it's a good day or a bad day or a sad day or a hard day or an impossible day I promise all things will work together for good here's another one in your contract in the word of God Philippians 1 and 6 being confident of this very thing that he which hath begun of good work in me and in you and in us he is going to perform it until the day that he returns he's never going on vacation he's never off duty the prayer line is never busy he's on the case the oldest book in your Bible not the first book but the oldest book the oldest book in your Bible is the Book of Job and job what an impossible situation he encountered in one day he lost everything he lost cattle and houses but worst of all he lost his children his family was gone everything he owned and then he lost his health and his body is covered with open oozing sores and he's trying to get some relief by scraping them with a broken piece of pottery and finally probably the day that broke his heart his wife just looks at him and says God must hate you job why don't you just curse God and die and get this over with and job he had no idea why all this had happened to him he had no idea why the God that he loved and served was letting him walk through something so traumatic and so terrible he had no idea job didn't know not till the day he died he didn't know we only know from the Bible job never knew this he never knew that the reason he was in a trial was that God Almighty had been bragging on him job never knew that he never found that out God had to tell him that when job finally died and went to heaven God never revealed that to job but it's revealed to us in the opening chapters of the Book of Job that the devil the Accuser serpent the enemy the evil one Satan himself appears before God and said he was there and God said God initiated the conversation God said have you considered my servant job and God pointed out job and said he loves me he's diligent he serves me he makes sacrifices to me he's raising his family to know me job's my friend and the devil looked back at God and said yeah you're like the mafia you pay him to serve you you give him all these blessings of course he Praises you of course he served you of course he loves you you've bless him look at look at his houses look at all of his family look at his property look at his bank account look at his livestock of course he serves you you're no better than the mafia God you pay people off to serve you and God said I don't think so not job I know job you can take everything but you can't touch his life you can take everything else if you read through the Book of Job you know what you'll find out that the one thing job wanted was for God to take his life I wish I'd never been born I wish I could just get out of here I wish God would just shut down my life and let me die and get out of this Agony the one request job actually had God didn't give it to him job loses everything and his friends show up I hope you don't have any of these friends three thousand years later we still call him job's comforters because they show up and they sit and stare at him for a week don't say a word and then they start talking and it goes downhill from there because they blame job you must be hiding sin in your life job you must have done something wrong job maybe God really does hate you job what have you done confess fess up job and job doesn't know what's going on and job doesn't know why and job can't explain why he's sick and he can't explain all the losses and he can't explain any of the pain but somewhere along in the middle of the Book of Job comes to a conclusion job 23. behold I go forward and I can't see God there and I look behind me but I can't perceive him I'm looking around trying to find God in my life right now and it seems like he's not showing up on the left hand they tell me he's working over there but I can't Behold Him and he hides himself on the right hand and I can't see him I don't know where God is but I'm going to make sure God knows where I am but he knows the way that I take he knows right where I am and I'm going to keep praying and I'm going to keep serving and I'm going to keep loving God I don't know where God is right now but I want God to know exactly where I am I'm in church this morning just like I was last Sunday just like I was on Wednesday night I'm here God nothing has changed on my end and then job said the punch line when he hath tried me I shall come forth as gold here's what job said I can't tell you when I'm coming out of this trial I can't tell you when the cancer is going to be healed or the diabetes is going to lessen I can't tell you when the backslider's coming home I can't tell you when I'm going to get out of this financial crisis I can't tell you when my family's going to be restored you see I don't know when I'm coming out I can't tell you that but I can tell you this I know how I'm coming out when I come out on whatever day that God finally delivers me on whatever day that the healing happens on whatever day that the miracle comes rushing into my life you know where God's gonna find me right where I am now right where I was back then I shall come forth as gold I don't know when I'm coming out but devil let me show you how I'm coming out I'm coming out worshiping I'm coming out better I am not coming out backslip I call to this great church right now because I know beyond shadow of a doubt that I am preaching to some families and some individuals who have heartache and headache and sickness and strife and tension and turmoil and I just preach to you in the Holy Ghost this morning to tell you just because you didn't get your Miracle two months ago when the church first prayed for you does not mean that God isn't working for you in fact if God could open your eyes he's got Agents Of Heaven dispatched to look after you why do you think you're still standing why do you think you're still living why do you think your family is still there why do you think it's because God is at work in your life and the greatest strength you've got is in this building right now because all around you even though you may not know their name are people that could testify to you and say you know what I walk through a long trial you know what I went through a very difficult sickness you know what my prayer didn't get answered on the first day but when we get together and we pray together God sends us Supernatural strength into this building so I'm calling for people if you had the A Team show up good for you but if the B team's working in your life and it's taken longer than you would like and it's harder than you would prefer I want you to get yourself to this altar when you get here come as close as you can because we're going to pray together and the strength of the Lord is going to flow like a river through this congregation today and whether God gives you your Miracle before you walk out the door or whether it's three more weeks here's what I know God is working even when you can't see it and even when you don't feel it just keep worshiping for a second while the rest are coming there's people
