A New Thing

I am so excited to be with you all tonight for this back to school event and I feel very close to God I have I am prayed up from the when I left Knoxville I left in plenty of time about 20 minutes early and there was a real severe storm and traffic and I prayed for God's hand of protection and as I continued to travel I prayed that I wouldn't get pulled over and I was justifying that by going about my father's business praying from the word of God about nine you're fine ten your mind I think that's in Proverbs somewhere and then I as I got closer I continued to pray a prayer of repentance for some of the interaction I had with the other drivers but thank God he uh he he brought me through and no no warrants for my arrest no court dates I made it uh on time and was greeted with such a cute smile from every person here and it is so I've heard so much about uh this church and it's so awesome to finally be here I know my brother-in-law has been here uh before and I give the highest honor to your leadership pastor and sister Sloan and their great family give them a great big round of applause thank you they are absolutely awesome and your church has played an integral role in my church and I'll be forever grateful uh to you all from just the advice and technical skills that a pastor Sloan particularly uh uh implant implemented when we first moved into our sanctuary and then of course brother Stephen Sloan just a an incredible leader in our church and a super close one of my dearest friends and I all I can say is thank you and it's just the highest honor that I have to be with you all my uh my wife and kids my mother-in-law's in town and they were they had some obligations back home those obligations were my little girl is four years old and I think she gets invited about two or three birthday parties every weekend they are at that but you have me tonight and I showed up in the center section at first pretending that I am youth don't ask me my age because you will force me to commit a yeah another one so uh so I I thank you for that if you would stand with me for the for the reading of God's word and we'll just get right into it tonight I have one verse of scripture from the book of Isaiah and we'll get more into it as we get going but Isaiah chapter 43 Verse 19. it states remember you not the former things neither consider the things of old behold I will do a new thing everybody to not just say a new thing that's our prayer tonight could we pray one more time over this sermon mighty God we thank you for the opportunity that you have given us to assemble here together Lord the prayers that went forth just a few moments ago you know all the needs in those prayers and father tonight with your word Overlook the inadequacies of the the speaker but Lord through your word let us realize that you want to do something new in our lives Lord we thank you for the great praise team and musicians that ushered us into your presence and father we know the atmosphere is set through the unity of your people and through your name Jesus Christ for you to do a magnificent work in this house with thank you and praise you in Jesus name we pray amen you can be seated and let's give the praise to him and musicians another hand clap of Praise that was awesome awesome awesome a new thing nothing like starting a a new school year represents you know newness taking place you could you see all the commercials and all the advertisements you go shopping for uh perhaps a new wardrobe of some type or new supplies and I remember uh even I guess I was six or seven years old and I was looking at Jaden brother Jaden's Jordans earlier uh my dad with my in-law my uh grandparents on my mom's side are from Dayton Ohio and we were there a week or two before school started and he took me uh to Cincinnati Ohio this was before the internet and Amazon and all of these different shoe stores and all that stuff he took me to the mall because the Jordans were about to be released I still I had a chance of getting some because I wore kids sizes and he said you still wear kid sizes but it was a smaller kid size and I remember going to that mall in the the line was wrapped outside and it was they had they had they had scheduled to release them on purpose right at the beginning of the school year and it was just it was insane and I ended up getting a pair of Jordans and I think my dad was happier than I was I didn't fully understand what they were but I I remember wearing them on the the first day of school and that first day of school and he had lectured me about you know don't get them dirty there's another pair of shoes in your backpack if you if when you go outside and you know all those things you need to keep them nice we we worked hard for those we traveled to Cincinnati Ohio to Ohio to begin with nobody no offense to anybody from Ohio to and he stood in line to get those shoes and I understand I understand well we had a fire drill on that first day and it was early in the morning it had just rained so you guessed it I came went out for the fire drill came back home and I had never seen such a look of disgust he he said you should have taken them off or just risked it inside you know but um going back to school represents newness and we all have those stories of starting a fresh year a fresh class a fresh GPA thank God a fresh report card I remember from my junior to senior year in high school I hit a growth spurt I was about five five six and as a junior and then when I was a senior I was about five eleven he said you're not five eleven now if you count the hair spike in the back I promise you and maybe a little Hill uh I'm at 5 11 but but then as a senior I had only taken a growth spurt I hadn't I hadn't gained any weight and I and I had the the complete look there was a there was a store in the in the mall at that time you may you may be familiar with it or heard of it but it was called Abercrombie and Fitch oh yeah yes and I yeah I wanted the complete look you know I'm taller now you know I'm going to be a senior it's a new start this is a this is a fresh meat a new me you know invest in myself you know if I could talk my parents in to spending some money on some ripped jeans or something but I had my hair I had my bangs completely over my eyebrows and if you wanted an answer from me I kind of had to swipe them over to the side you know and uh I I couldn't really wear adult sizes but this particular store had not just a small in the men's clothing the men's department I didn't want I'm not in kids anymore okay that's just a new me they had they sold an extra small okay and if you've got that extra small washed it and hot a few times and dried it it would even shrink a little bit more so I I got a couple of those polo shirts and would even wear a couple T-shirts under you know just to fill it out and um the genes the the more holes in them the more expensive they were and I tried to talk my grandma into getting me some of those and that just never worked out so I had to kind of get some pictures of what those look like at that store and kind of make my own and it cut the sides of them so they'd go over uh over my shoes real good and they they sold these belts it's like a d-ring belt it didn't have um holes in them but you could just Loop it through and luckily the smallest size they had in those belts though was a medium but it didn't have holes so I I got that I got that belt and it would wrap I think around me once and then all the way around back but it was from Abercrombie so it was cool and ah I wanted some some flip-flop sandals leather ones as yeah this was cool now okay I'm in Knoxville Tennessee about 10 hours from an ocean but I wanted the complete Surfer look and the smallest size they had in those flip-flops was like an eight and a half or something like that and you know from the Jordan story I my foot even then but I got the smallest size they had and it was like a nine but again it's a sandal I'm not gonna be you know playing basketball or anything and then he's like so I so I got I got those in the back of my jeans would it was like it would it would like catch on the back of it because they were uh so big and and instead of looking like a surfer I think I looked more like a scuba diver uh walking around and you know it just I it was a new me but and that was at the end on my way out you know I've got to have a new fragrance as well so I walked through the department store you know you get hit with all those different kind of Aromas and those this woman that came up to me she had the the deepest voice and she was older and uh she she she may have smoked some but she said hi son this will be sure to get her attention and I'm just like if you're the catch I don't know if that's the fragrance for me but I'll stick to the ax body spray you know and that's even better on the budget but my my whole my my whole point is I it was it's a time of newness a time of and you all laugh now but you wait here in a few few years you'll look back at some of the things that you did because you're it's a it's a time of newness and and going back to school in all seriousness is uh you're you're wanting to fit in you're wanting to look the part you're you're wanting to make a good impression you're you've got like I said a new GPA maybe you're starting a new school new class maybe you're starting College there's all of these new things and I want to talk to us about a new thing tonight so our key verse is States remember you not the former things and then it just reiterates neither consider the things of old it's like you just said that Isaiah Isaiah being the mouthpiece of God and he says behold I will do a new thing Isaiah in the context of this passage is bringing forth a prophetic voice he's a he's a prophet and he's giving the people a direct message from God and he is prophesying to Liberation and freedom for God's people the Israelites they have at this point you know the story of the Israelites The Exodus from Egypt into Jerusalem and then Babylon came and besieged them and took them captive at this point in the timeline Isaiah is saying this to them as they have been taken into bondage by the Babylonians he reminds them through the prophetic word that the same power that was used in the deliverance from Egypt will be the exact same power that's going to be alive and work and deliver them from Babylon but his main point to the people is that during this rescue during this Deliverance during this this Liberation it's going to be nothing compared to the new thing that God is going to do he says remember not the former things neither consider the things of old I will do a new thing now usually during a sermon we'll start at one verse and work our way down I'm going to work our way back up a little bit if you go back up to verse 17 he says this is what the Lord says excuse me he who made a way through the sea and he's talking about the Exodus a path through the mighty Waters who drew out the Chariots and horses the Army and reinforcements together they lay there never to rise again and Isaiah's talking to the people he says do you remember he says do you remember when I made Aaron's uh Rod he turned it into a serpent do you remember the ten plagues water turned into blood and frogs and lice and flies and Egypt's livestock and the hail that was rained down on the locusts and the Darkness and the firstborn were slain I parted the Red Sea sent Manna From Heaven made Aaron's Rod Bud water from a rock parted the Jordan River made the wall of Jericho fall I made the Sun and Moon stand still no big deal and God says through Isaiah remember all of those miraculous events all of those provision and miracles that took place in your lineage that's been passed down from generation to generation remember all of those great things he says well don't remember the former things remember how God delivered you out of Egypt you know the most powerful Empire to ever exist in human history at that time and Pharaoh after pharaoh who declared to be God of the land remember when I delivered you from them don't even consider the things of old he Isaiah speaking is God's voice says remember not the former things nor the things of old don't dwell on them because I am going to do a new thing he said I'm going to do something so great something so amazing that you don't even have the time and there are not enough seconds in the day for you to even focus on for one moment old bondage or even old Deliverance he says whatever happened in the past whether it be bondage or great Deliverance it's going to pill in comparison to the new thing that I'm going to do let's let's work our way back up just a little bit verse 14 and 15 he says this is what the Lord says your Redeemer he's reiterating this point to them the Holy One of Israel for your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians in the ships in which they take pride I am the Lord your Holy One Israel's Creator your king and the people think man as I Isaiah makes this prophecy the praise the Lord praise be to almighty God he's he's going to Deliver Us from Babylon just like he did out of Egypt and he's he's certainly prophesying a great victory over the Babylonians he he's going to Deliver Us from them just like he did Egypt and right then Revival breaks out and the people are running and jumping and clapping and going crazy and and Isaiah's I well yeah and they're just they're shouting and rejoicing after he says this and he's just kind of standing there and maybe for any of you guys about to take an English class there's a literary term called a a soliloquy and this is when the main character of a story steps out while everything else is going on and begins to reveal their thoughts to the rest of the audience in in Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare at the first scene uh there there's a a dance taking place and they're dancing in the hall and Romeo first sees Juliet and while the play is still going on the Romeo steps out and says wow she does teach the Torches to burn bright and what's happening is and you've seen this in shows or a movie or something the main character is revealing his thoughts or her thoughts to the rest of the audience while everything else is taking place well give me a little bit of latitude tonight so all of the people are rejoicing and shouting because they're they're going to receive Deliverance in this instance from Babylon just like they did from from Egypt and and Isaiah steps out and he's kind of scratching his head and he's revealing some thoughts to you he's like well yeah the god you serve the Holy One of Israel the creator of this world you know of course he's going to deliver you if you if you turn towards him and and keep his his Covenant his Covenant with you of course here King is going to bring victory over the Babylonians but he's like you know it doesn't take a profit to see that you know I mean well of course it's been written over and over but yeah they're rejoicing anyway and he he kind of gets their attention and says Hey listen up for a second and uh yes he's going to deliver you from them this Empire of Babylon but Isaiah said what I'm talking about I'm talking about is going to be so much greater than the deliverance from Egypt and what I what I'm referring to you about in this moment is going to be so much more magnificent even than the Liberation from Babylon God what I'm telling you right now is God's mouthpiece is that he is going to do a new thing I'm not talking about bringing down Babylon even though it happened yet and they're like so you are prophesying about he said no no what I'm talking about I'm talking about a new thing that is going to come and he's going to display his omnipotence such a manner that even nature will have to obey his every command he said I'm talking about a new thing I'm not talking about Egypt and I'm not talking about Babylon specifically but I'm talking about at this new thing that's going to come at his authority the dead will have to rise and at his touch blind eyes will be healed I'm talking about a new thing he says that who's going to come and provide physical healing I'm talking about a new thing who will show up up the scene one day and provide psychological Deliverance I'm talking about a new thing who would be able to defy the laws of gravity I'm talking about a new thing that even with a small lunch can create instantaneous economic provision I'm talking about a new thing who will come and be the perfect human sacrifice and provide Redemption for all Humanity he said I'm talking about a new thing he said Egypt was a miraculous Escape but forget about it and you're going to be from delivered from Babylon yes but the deliverance and the miraculous Liberation in this moment it's going to be nothing compared to the new thing and this new thing Jesus Christ is going to be greater than anything in your past it's going to be greater than anything that's taking place right now and it's going to be greater than any Empire you Face Tomorrow there's victory in your past and that's great but you need to leave it there because he wants to do something new in this moment right now and don't worry about or be anxious about tomorrow either because the new thing is greater than that as well I wonder if across this house just for a moment As We Lay the foundation about the new thing that this church is named after Pastor Sloan talked about this Jesus name I wonder if just for a moment we could worship and give honor and add ration and thanks for the new thing Jesus Christ in our life that perfect sacrifice God not distant from his creation God not distant from Humanity but he came down and became as one of us he conquered the grave and now we have power through that name we now have his Spirit we thank you for that new thing would you turn that praise into a hand clap for just a moment somebody shout out the new thing right now just say the new thing I need something new does anyone need something new in this house yes Jesus you can be seated I remember not the former things neither the things of old yeah I like hearing about miracles of the past I love talking about revivals that that got us here were the foundation for us but I want something new today I want fresh manna today Egypt was great but forget about it yeah you're going to be delivered from Babylon but it's nothing compared to the new thing the victory over Babylon hadn't even happened yet but he said go ahead and count it go ahead and proactively praise God for it victory has already been counted and it's nothing compared to the new thing and now as we lay that foundation for what we acknowledge and what we believe repentance turning away from our sins being baptized in the name of Jesus going down in the name of that that new thing who gave his life and conquered the grave for us that we have hope and being filled with his spirit with the evidence of speaking with another tongue into the Heavenly language foreign we celebrate that new thing tonight and if you haven't repented of your sins or been baptized in his name tonight is the night to do that and he he's he has a the gift of the Holy Ghost for you but I know also tonight that I'm speaking to God's people and many of us recognize tonight and many of us could point to an event particularly and we we acknowledge and can identify the deliverance from Egypt the deliverance from sin and we know that Egypt throughout the Old Testament is a type and Shadow of sin and when we uh convert Our Lives when our lives when we're converted and Believe on him and are baptized we'll say sometimes you'll hear the language that says God brought me out of sin or God brought me out of Egypt and we can really really point to that that moment and and identify that but Daniel chapter one and you and you turn your life from sin he took on the name of Jesus and and you have Deliverance over Egypt and you can identify that Daniel chapter 1 says Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon came to Jerusalem and beseeched it so I'm talking to people tonight who were saved and Jerusalem being a type and Shadow of the church people who are in Jerusalem and you've been in Jerusalem for a long time and maybe you grew up in Jerusalem maybe you were educated in Jerusalem I mean Jerusalem is your home and you haven't left but Babylon came in and besieged it Babylon came in while you were on a pew as some of you under the sound of my voice and I have before as well have are fighting with Babylon right now you know and recognize the freedom that you have over Egypt but you're in the church house and Babylon came in and we all go through different seasons in our life and maybe it was a cold season maybe you were coming to church but just in a moment of weakness you made a mistake vulnerability in a time of turmoil though still in Jerusalem you did some things that if you could go back and rewrite history you would but Babylon came in while you were still in Jerusalem and like the parable of the lost coin you were in the house but Phil lost her at some times feel lost and and and though you're in a this season of newness where you you want newness you you want a fresh start there you feel as if your vision might still be a bit murky and you find yourself living in a state of stagnation Babylon may have besieged you and came into Jerusalem it could have been in the form of a relationship or a cold season or or an addiction or or maybe you made a mistake and you sinned and that's how Babylon came in and this mistake because it took place after your conversion because it took place while you were in Jerusalem because it it took place in a time where you and others had high expectations for yourself because it took place while you were being used in the church while you were in leadership at the church while you were in the praise team or a musician or or a greeter or or served in some capacity because it took place after you took on his name after you made a strong bold public proclamation of Jesus on your life because it took place while you were in Jerusalem you still feel like yeah can't get that new Fresh Start like you once had when you first came to the Lord and you defeated Egypt but now find yourself captive by Babylon and you've prayed about it and you're sitting on a Pew and it and the praise team gets to go on and Pastor Sloan gets to pray and you're all praying together and and and for a few moments you you feel that and then when you come back down that whatever however Babylon came into your life it starts to whisper in your ear again or when you go on a Sunday or or a rally you get on that spiritual high and that's what we that's why we come together not forsaken ourselves the Assembly of ourselves together but then Monday morning or Tuesday and it just comes right back to you it's like why did I do that and you kind of aren't able to reconcile the two worlds and it's listen to me tonight and you're sitting on a Pew but at times you still don't feel a hundred percent delivered and at times you don't truly feel free and it's not because you're lazy and it's not because you lack passion and it's not because you're uninterested and it's not because you lack determination and it's not that you lack talent and it's not because God hasn't called you but the enemy now Whispers in your ears saying that you are no longer good enough you recognized that Deliverance out of Egypt but you find yourself captive by Babylon and this mistake has you bound up from reaching your true calling and full calling and Commission in Christ and every time you begin to take a step forward that skeleton in your closet starts knocking on your door and the enemy begins to wave it out in front of you and Satan mocks and Whispers in your ear and scarves and says I thought that you were supposed to be the one that was to be the example ha how's anyone ever going to take you serious if if that's what you did after you were baptized after you were converted while you were in some type of leadership or serving Rome look what you did while you were in the house of God and what he wants to happen remember Satan his the name means compromise he is the great compromiser and Satan claims Victory Satan is content Satan is satisfied when you are stagnant in your calling and you throw it in neutral in Orlando what do you mean by that he's come to the realization that you will still come to the church house but he still claims Victory when you're just a spectator rather than a participator in the work of God he realizes he realizes that you fled Egypt but he now knows that he can bind you up by Babylon and he's he's fine with you coming just but just stay where you're at he's he's he's fine with you he's fine with you occupying a position but don't don't get too happy in your praise don't don't don't get don't you can you can clap a little bit but don't if I make to make on Monday morning you're gonna feel that I'm I'm still here I I know there's not going to be anything I could do to keep you from coming to his house but if I can just keep you at a state below where God has called you to if I can keep you a few levels below from those visions that you've seen in an altar service or when you've counseled with your pastor and you've you've seen the call of God on your life if I can keep you from few levels below that if I if I can get in your mind that you'll never be able to achieve that now because of some of the mistakes you made after you were baptized and I promise you that Satan claims Victory he says I know you're always going to recognize your deliverance over Egypt but I now can besiege you by means of Babylon and if he can oppress your mind with that mistake he can keep you from fulfilling you're calling in Christ and he is content and claims Triumph and I might be talking to somebody here tonight who that Babylon bondage is trying to keep you tied down and you may feel even the restraints of it this very moment and you made a mistake and you keep beating yourself up over it and your mind is oppressed with regret but I've got good news tonight I've got the gospel news for us tonight I know it's not that deep but I've got prophetic precedent I've got good news that it is God's will that you have freedom over it because Babylon has already been defeated God is ready to forgive you God will defeat Babylon and I want you to know that your mistake whatever Babylonian bondage the enemy is trying to use on you that it's going to be nothing compared to the new thing it's going to be nothing compared to the name of Jesus it's going to be nothing compared to the power that you possessed and I want you to know the next time that he's going to bring you out it's going to be greater than the last time and the next time he does after that it's going to be greater than that time there's no diminishing return on God's mercy and Grace every Miracle every day of Deliverance is greater than the less he said don't even remember the old Miracles don't even remember the old bondage because I want to do something new tonight my God Babylon has already been defeated the same power that brought you out of Egypt is the same power that's going to deliver you from Babylon in this house and it is nothing compared to the new thing Jesus Christ would you give him praise for just a moment no matter how bad you messed up no matter what the bondage every time it's a new thing every time it's a fresh start every time the Deliverance is greater than the last time Isaiah would go on to say through God I even I is he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and he remembers your sins no more don't even remember the things of old because it's nothing compared to the new thing I'm not talking about sweeping things under the rug I'm talking about repentance that you truly put it under the blood under the blood of that new thing Jesus Christ who is ready to do something new in your life tonight whether it's provision whether it's a healing whatever that Babylonian Spirit has tried to get you in bondage on the church pew don't listen to the lies of the enemy there is a new thing and Babylon is nothing compared to it if the musicians would come at this time and singers yes Jesus I believe God is revealing some things to some people right now I believe there's some people feeling in power through the Holy Ghost right now that I'm no longer going to get on the high of a service and then Monday morning I'm going to allow that regret to oppress my mind I'm not going to allow my joy to be stolen any longer I'm not going to allow my happiness to be stolen any longer I'm not going to allow those moments with my family to be troubled and oppressed with regret because of something that took place in the past foreign the word Satan literally means adversary compromise or one who opposes Us in the accomplishment of our designs what did Jesus say to do when he tries to stand in front of what he's called you to do whether it be in our past or whether it be in our present whether it be in our insecurities or our inadequacies he said Satan behind me because you're looking at a new thing you're looking at a new creation when the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and just remained standing that's emblematic of when we go down in water and are baptized in the name of Jesus when they cross the Red Sea they still had a journey to the promised land likewise when we get baptized we're not automatically in heaven we still gotta go punch the clock on Monday morning we still gotta deal with all the distresses and pressures of life so we're still on a journey but he said his mercy and Grace is new Every Morning the Apostle Paul who comprises about one-third of the New Testament says I have to die out daily if he's got to do that I know I have to as well we have to have God's mercy and Grace every single day and Jesus said get behind me Satan we used to sit we say we say past get behind me regret get behind me mistake get behind me we used to sing that old chorus and pardon my singing I hope I don't ruin the whole Revival he said I command you Satan does anybody remember that song In The Name Of The Lord to pick up your weapons and flee because God has given me Authority you have the Holy Ghost the very same power that created this world the very same power that Rose him from the grave is the same power that is alive inside of you for God has given me authority to well hate Satan I'm gonna I'm gonna slide on past you if you don't mind or I I'm still going to kind of step out and and be used and I I hope somebody never brings up my path no no he said God has given me authority to step right on you and right over you and my past is behind me and the new thing that I serve is greater than Egypt it's greater than my current Babylon and mighty God whatever I Face Tomorrow the new thing is greater than that as well I wonder if somebody needs something new tonight this altar is open for you whatever situation you might be dealing with I want you to know that there's new mercy and there's new Grace and there's fresh Manna up here right now this altar's open for you right now whatever you have need of if you'll accept Forward and lift up your hands and say I need something new tonight I need something new tonight I need a miracle to take place tonight I need new provision I need new Joy I need new happiness I need new man yes Jesus his mercy and Grace doesn't stop the second or third time I make a mistake it's new every single morning surely goodness and mercy shall follow me Circle this italicize it put it in red all the days all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever their his spirit is in this house Authority is in this house we drive you out right now demon in the name of Jesus we drive you out right now devil in the name of Jesus get your hand off our people get your hand off my brother get your hand off my sister babylon's not here anymore because the new thing has defeated it and we claim victory tonight in the name of Jesus worship that new thing right yes yes Jesus Christ 's house something new something new change break right now at the new thing bands be loosed right now at the new thing Miracles take place every battle you won I am who you say I am you crowned me with confidence I am seated in the Heavenly Place undefeated with the one who has conferred it all you you were Champions and Giants for when you stand undefeated every battle you want and I am who you say I am you've crowned me with conflict oh come on let's pray Mom and Dad come help us pray tonight Lord you can do it work in their lives right now somebody with faith bring it up here right now begin to work in the name of Jesus oh come on that's right come on you are victorious in the name of Jesus yes yes and I am who you say I am you Crown me with confidence I am seated in the Heavenly place come on lift your voice thank you oh come on let's try reach to Heaven Come all the waymakers here tonight come on young person that's right run into his presence I so need you now Jesus I so need you now Jesus I hunger for you Jesus yeah yeah come on everybody find somebody to pray with right now reach out come on let the Holy Ghost use you right now reach out and pray come on in the name of Jesus Christ don't be selfish use you right now oh we love you Lord I'm not going back I'm moving ahead I'm here to declare to you my past is over in you of things I love you Lord I worship you holy God oh come on let's try get a hold of him right now come on reach out for him young person come on the name of Jesus hallelujah hallelujah oh come on God's moving in our lives right now with the sweet breath of the Holy Ghost move over here right now in the name of Jesus Great Is Your Name Jesus holy holy is your name Lord God oh come on that's right in the name of Jesus come on that's right he's breathing New Life new life right now in the name of Jesus come on New Life I'm not going back I'm moving ahead I'm here to declare to you my past is over and you are things are made new surrender my life to Christ I'm moving moving forward Hallelujah Worthy is the day come on
