Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Something New — a New Mindset, a New Song, a New Start

  • After a story of his younger self chasing a new look — new clothes bought with his grandmother's help that never quite fit — the preacher turns to his subject: all of us at one point desire something new, something fresh, and he reads four verses while the congregation remains seated.
  • Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles, else the bottles break and the wine runneth out. O sing unto the Lord a new song, for he hath done marvellous things. Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old: behold, I will do a new thing.
  • The message is titled from the desire itself — I want something new: a new mindset, a new song, and a new start.

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Matthew 9:17; Psalms 98:1; Isaiah 43:18-19

New Wine Will Not Keep in Old Bottles

  • New wine was stored in new, supple wineskins because it would keep fermenting and emitting gas; poured into a previously used skin already stretched to its limit, it would tear the seams and the whole scarce, survival commodity would be wasted — and Jesus spoke the parable while John's disciples asked why his followers feasted instead of fasted: when the bridegroom is present it is a time to feast, not to mourn, because something new has manifested itself.
  • God wants to do something new, but the new wine will not fit an old mindset: people receive a fresh touch and then pour it back into the same grudges, the same company, the same habits — like a dog that returns to its vomit, a fool who goes back to his folly, pulling up things God has already forgotten.
  • And the snare is in the mouth: thou art snared by the words that exit your mouth — the words we sing and speak reflect our joy and our salvation, and worrisome, critical words can hold a life in bondage.

Scriptures: Matthew 9:17; Proverbs 26:11; Proverbs 6:2

Sing a New Song — Even in the Night

  • Our whole life is a song the world is watching and listening to; music did not originate on earth but in the heavens, and the gift of singing was imparted to us who are made in his image — which is why the choir, the praise team and the musicians matter: when the minstrel played, the hand of the Lord came upon the prophet, and a song can usher in a move of God.
  • The new song is not a naive song for meadow days: it is raised right in the presence of the enemy, sung in the middle of the storm, and sometimes it is an old song become new — if God did it for that generation, he can do it for this generation as well.
  • But none saith, where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night: the believer's song does not come from without but from within, and even with tears while singing, weeping endures only for the night and joy comes in the morning.

Scriptures: Psalms 98:1; Job 35:10

Behold, I Will Do a New Thing

  • Isaiah prophesied to God's people in captivity to Babylon: the same power that brought deliverance out of Egypt would bring deliverance out of Babylon — and then, forget even that; the new thing God will do is so great that neither the old bondage nor the old victories will hold a moment's focus, and its victory is counted before it happens.
  • Babylon besieges differently than Egypt: Nebuchadnezzar came to Jerusalem and besieged it — this captivity can arrive after conversion, while a person is being used, sitting on the pew, singing in the choir, because new wine was poured back into something old that God had already delivered them out of.
  • The new thing Isaiah pointed to is Jesus Christ himself: greater than Egypt, greater than your current Babylon, greater than any mistake or regret — with fresh mercy and fresh grace every day and no diminishing return — so the altar stays open, and the word to anyone who wants something new is: keep coming.

I I was I wanted to you know shop in the men's sizes you know and luckily some stores had Smalls and even extra Smalls if you if you looked long enough and when I would find those polo style shirts and an extra small I would have to wear a shirt or two t-shirt under it to to make sure to you know to fill it out uh fill it out just stay even a little bit more I wanted a new look I was a college man you know and uh so I I wanted a new pair of uh denim as well and of course I didn't have money to buy any of this so I asked my grandmother to go to the mall with me and she might remember this and we went into this very high fashion store called Abercrombie and Fitch and somehow me and my grandmother weren't on the same page in terms of what you know true style was as I found that Gene that was a 28 waist that was still you know very baggy on me with the holes knocked out of the knees and out of The Shins and the bottoms were already frayed and uh at that time you know it was in style to cut the seam of your jeans as well and uh then we looked at the price tag my grandmother just believe it or not and then even after the images that were depicted on the uh on the wall of you know what I was trying to look like you know it didn't go over well I think she said we're going to Stein Martin getting good quality for for uh for a much a much better price but I I wanted a new look and at this store you know you get the right things and kind of have that Surfer type look you know and uh um because you know we're so close to the ocean here in East Tennessee and and just to you know fill the whole the whole Lookout but you know eventually went in there and I got this you know what a d-ring belt is it don't have any notches so I could buy the smallest size they had which was like a 32 and that thing would still just wrap all the way around me twice and the Buckle would be like right here but I was able to shop in there and also you know it was in Vogue maybe in my small little world to you know buy flip-flops and wear them the whole year long nothing said I was cool or protested Whatever by wearing flip-flops in the middle of January you know whether it be you know walking to class and yeah believe it or not they didn't have my size in those either but you know it was just a notch in the middle of your toes so I could buy like a half size or actually in my case a size and a half up and I did look like someone that probably spent time at the sea I looked more like a scuba diver flopping in my flip-flops with the back of them catching more than I did a uh a surfer or something like that and of course you had to you had to complete the look by and he wanted to smell nice you know you wanted to you before they even saw you know that the man that guy might be a surfer from Knoxville who knows he wanted to they were going to he wanted to have a nice Aroma about you so I went to a department store and I was going to try out all the fragrances and I was looking and you know you spray and you spray and after about two or three you can't even see and you're dizzy this woman that was working there she she I remember she sat the the Clone down on the uh on the glass table and of course it came with like a duffel bag and a bicycle and all this stuff if you buy it and she's like and she had the deepest voice ever and as Pastor McCool said earlier she wasn't old but she was aged and she said she said this will be the one that gets her attention and I said if that's if that's who likes this and that's the catch I'm not going fishing so uh no offense to her but I uh just stuck with the ax body spray in that situation but but I know we were having a good service well I know that all of you could relate a similar story uh in your life where you wanted something new and you know that might not have been the measure to go about it but I do want to preach to you tonight now that I've completely lost you about something new and I have four verses of scripture and you can just remain seated and we're going to go from the Apostle Paul to Jesus to the psalmist David to the prophet Isaiah so we should be in good shape covering the uh entire Septuagint if you will Second Corinthians 5 17 therefore If any man be in Christ he is a new creature everybody say new all things are passed away behold all things are become new Matthew 9 17 and that'll be our Q text and we'll have three subtexts here neither do men put new wine into Old bottles this is Jesus speaking in Parable form else the bottles break and the wine runeth out and the bottles perish he said neither do man put new wine into Old bottles Psalms 98 1 it says o sing unto the Lord a new song for he hath done marvelous things Isaiah 43 19 remember you not the former things neither the things of old behold I will do a new thing I want to entitle my message tonight in my sermon and I will be conscientious of the time I want something new a new mindset a new song and a new start if you would bow your heads right where you're at and let's just ask God to sink deep into our hearts with this word mighty God we thank you tonight Lord you know the situations that have been brought into this house and into this room you know those listening online tonight as well who needs something new who have been in the darkness of night who have been dealing with a great deal of uncertainty and maybe they're needing the page to be turned tonight a new chapter in their life a new outpouring Lord you said that you are going to do a new thing and we believe that on this day as well that's our faith that's our expectation and we're praising you and acknowledging what you're going to do in advance by faith in Jesus name we pray and the church said amen I want something new so I ask you from the onset does anyone need something new tonight now if you don't just you know whatever but you do you need God to show up do you need God to reveal himself do you need some answers and for him to do something fresh in your situation Matthew 9 17 Jesus said neither do men put new wine into Old bottles else the bottles break and the wine runeth out and the oak bottles perish as well in the Israeli culture of that time and place wine making was as common as eating and drinking clean water was scarce and the climate of that area was especially favorable to viticulture so out of necessity necessity wine was used either had contaminated water likely maybe some Lamb's milk that hopefully had lasted throughout the day or to the next day or fermented wine and to make wine grapes were harvested and then usually spread out in the sun a few days to increase their sugar content they would be crushed into large Stone Vats first with people stopping Barefoot on them to just exude all of the juices and then there was an even more pressure there was even more pressing that was used by a heavy wooden plank with weighted stones in the new line the new wine historians tell us was left in the vet to undergo the first fermentation which took four to seven days after that the wine would be strained and stored in a wine skin and I have a kind of a sample here tonight or jars to complete fermentation don't don't worry we're not taking communion there's only Gatorade in here but uh because new wine continued to firm it it would emit gas inside the container and therefore it was crucial for it to be stored in new Supple wineskins and if you have that picture for me of our first wine skin that is similar uh to what I'm holding in my hands though that depiction would be much larger and the gases would emit from that wine and it would expand the container will you show the next one please that really gives you a depiction of a large animal skin that would have been been for use of holding a a ton of different a ton of wine you know a very scarce commodity we're not we're not talking about a luxury item that you you see people pour in with their dainty glasses and and toast cheers we're talking about absolute survival absolute work absolute Blood Sweat and Tears absolute it might be the difference in me living the next week if this stays as it should in to this large animal skin and show the next picture please if that new wine was poured into a previously used animal skin that had already been expanded when that gas began to fill the volume of that container it would become porous and that sacred commodity of wine that sacred survival item would be all wasted and poor completely out and this is what Jesus was saying you don't take new wine and put it into an old animal skin and he was using this as a metaphor to himself because John the Baptist was in prison at this time and not in a divisive or disrespectful manner but he didn't completely as the disciples didn't at times and everyone else who was right there in their midst and you know we have the the great privilege of looking back and understanding of how all of the events unfolded but John the Baptist lived a very ascetic lifestyle and he was in prison he had denied himself the pleasures of this world in the terms of of of different types of food and drinking and you know we we preached about he he lived out in the wilderness and he he fasted often and the the Pharisees as well saw the disciples and Jesus followers you know and Jesus was with Sinners and he's fellowshipping and communing with them and eating with them and they they raised a question how are we fasting and you're you're feasting with Sinners and and communing and and celebrating with with your with your followers and Jesus says when the bridegroom is with you it's not a time for fasting it's a time for feasting uh they say are you you indeed the the Messiah how how is it that we you know fast often how how is it that we are denying ourselves and and you're and and you're seemingly celebrating he said Jesus said how can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them then they will Fast and what Jesus is saying is right now is not a time to mourn it's a time to celebrate right right now is not a time to fast it's a time to Feast because there is a new wine and a new dispensation that has been poured out currently and God manifests in flesh God the creator of the world is right in front of your eyes and it's not a time to mourn it's a time to celebrate and like the preacher in Ecclesiastes Jesus tells John's disciples that there's a time for everything in in the the Jewish people often linked fasting to mourning and a wedding celebration isn't a time to deny oneself it's a time for celebrating and Jesus promises that the time of mourning was coming but this was not it I believe in fasting I believe in denying oneself I believe in coming fine-tuned but I also believe that there's times like this service here tonight when the choir gets up and sings I put it all in his hands that it's not a time to push back the plate it's a time to Feast spiritually it's a time to say I know that everything around me isn't perfect I know there's some things that I have questions about but I know Jesus is ready to commune and he's right here with me and it's not it's not a time to mourn it's not a time to weep it's a time to celebrate because something new has manifest itself [Applause] for a minute drinks like wine expanded and the old wine skin would have already been stretched to its limit and the new wine would tear the seams that's why it had to be preserved in New wineskins God wants to do something new for you in this house but as Pastor Whitley preached to us was it last Sunday morning it's not going to fit into your previous mindset and he preached about I love shouting and rejoicing and getting a touch from God at the altar of of course 100 but he said you also have to go out of here and set up some discipline in your life and live a new life and we heard it this morning a holy life that that Holiness lifestyle is a new wine skin that this new creature gets put into because so many people will come to church and get that emotional impact or or really get new wine and then they go back and hold the same Grudge and they go back with the same people they put the same music right back in their ears they click click click on the internet and start up the same things but God's forgiven them of a situation or or God's or there's a relationship and they'll bring stuff back up that's old and this new wine that's been poured out on a Sunday evening this new wine that's been poured out at Wednesday night bible study put into an old container and it just drips away when the blind man from Bethesda Jesus said you've got to take me you got to hold my hand as I lead you out and it's it's going to be a faith Journey it was a series of touches from Jesus and he said a very small phrase in that story he said once I give you this Vision once I give you this new wine he said don't go back to that Village that Village was a faithless village that Village was a place of doubt and I'm going to give you something new but you can't go pour it back in to the old I know in our be free class that brother George and sister stays brother Ryan and sister Stacy George teach and administer to every Wednesday night one of the key factors in individuals dealing with um maybe with habits is not returning to the environment where it is accessible you know and that's that's real easy to say but we can do the same things I had the privilege of speaking at the University of Tennessee to the turn this past Thursday evening and we had just a an awesome service and one thing I talked about we we live in an age of criticism we live in an age of skepticism and cynicism if we want if you want to get a news article to be read you put a negative headline if you want something to be shared let something bad be taking place in it we see this played out in the political Arena if somebody hits you you punch him back twice as hard we we see it played out in the in the world of Athletics and entertainment and and Scandal and and and if we're not careful you know these things that aren't necessarily just spelled out verbatim can enter into our lives and we can have such a spirit of criticism when we sit around the table we're tearing this person down or we're tearing this family member down or did you see what she had on did you see what he posted did you did you see what they did and it's this constant bombardment and God's God's God's given you this new wine and this new life and even even just in the intimacy of your family you can find yourself just being so sarcastic and so critical I'm not talking about just the church I'm just talking about of everything of everything that it just influences your spirit and it influences your mind and it it dampers your peace and the joy God has poured out on you so so I ask you do you have any old wine skins in your life is is there something in your past that every every time God gives you this this this this new touch that you revert back to is that is there a grudge that you're that you're still holding that that God's done so many things in your life God's blessed you so mightily but but then the next morning you wake up and it's just focused on this this negative circumstance or or maybe you forgave someone in a relationship maybe it's a maybe it's a friend maybe it's in the context of a marital relationship and and In the Heat of a moment something that happened 10 years ago you pull it back up just just because of your human nature and God's given you all this reconciliation and all this repentance and then you pour it back into something something old and the Proverbs tells us like a dog that returns to its vomit a fool who repeats goes back to his folly goes back to a vice goes back to an addiction goes back to a group of friends goes back on saying that they forgave somebody and and pulls up things that God's already forgotten about or filled somebody else in on hey well let me tell you what what they did about three or four years ago yeah I know yeah I know I'm not gossiping I'm not repeating gossip so listen the first time you know uh Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame pastor preached about it this morning our Holiness lie lifestyle is that new wine skin that we pour ourselves into to to to protect the the quality to to preserve the righteousness to preserve the purity of the substance Jesus was making a very specific point to John the Baptist yeah and again please don't misinterpret what I'm saying John the Baptist wasn't in Conflict which all this was happening right there new in the midst of Judaism he was here to do something completely new it's not a time for fasting it's a time for feasting and if John or anyone else tried to make sense to an old lens an old expectation or old regulations they would miss the amazing thing that was taking place right in front of their eyes through Jesus God was Redeeming the world and manifest himself in flesh and if people expected this to look familiar to what God had done before they wouldn't understand God's going to do new miracles for us God's going to give us fresh Deliverance but he's going to do it differently than he did yesterday and you've got to be ready to be that vessel Christianity is called the Great confession but most Christians who are defeated in life are defeated because they believe and confess because they sing the wrong things they're singing and speaking the words of the enemy and these words these worrisome thoughts can hold us in absolute bondage here on this Earth Proverbs 6 and 2 says Thou Art snared Thou Art trapped by the words that exit your mouth the things you say can absolutely keep you in bondage on this Earth and the words which are songs we sing reflect our joy and they reflect our Salvation our life our entire life is a song our entire life is a Melody that should be pointing to the heavens proclaiming Victory the words that exit our lips our demeanor our reaction in challenging situations is a sermon and it's a song that is sung to this entire world and the whole world is watching and the whole world is listening and through songs we express our love and attachment to the truth of God and the songs of this world end up in hopelessness and in Decay and in death but his songs are characterized by love joy and peace so I ask you this question tonight what are you saying about the situation that you are in what are you seeing about in that tribulation of your life Pastor talked to us this morning about we are a holy nation you don't think this choir is important music is the language of the Soul Melody did not originate on Earth its earliest use was in the heavens the Lord asked job where he was when the morning song stars sing together and this Celestial concert vibrated the universe as God demonstrated his wisdom in creation and the Heavenly Creatures did not create the ability to sing it was given to them by God and he imparted this delightful ability to us who are Made In His Image Elijah wanting to hear from God and he called for a Minstrel and when they played the hand of the Lord Came Upon them as I mentioned a second ago you don't think this choir is important you don't think this praise team is important you don't play this music is important this can Usher in an absolute move of God and on the flip side if you're in the choir if you're in the praise team if you're in the musician you need to understand that you are singing something sacred you're singing something holy that is exiting your lips you are singing something that that that heaven can open up and God's hand can come down and move that's why there is a communal agreement that's why as Pastor talked about this morning as platform standards there's there's a behavior that you that you live up to that a separation that you live up to because you are singing The Sacred we're not just up here learning the greatest uh popular Christian hits or or the greatest hit of the day yeah we want to stay modern yes we want our music to to be the best that we can make it but the most important thing to understand as you are singing something sacred and holy and that's why this choir and the praise team and the musicians it is absolutely imperative for us to understand it's that important it's that important to keep yourself separated it's that important to understand that you know I've gotta I've got to be at practice I've got to practice for practice I've gotta I've got to practice before I I get to rehearsal every time it's that crucial Jesus said you will do the uh you'll do works even greater than I he was talking about communally together is there anything yeah what what could stop us when you hear all in his hands and you hear the different Melody and the different parts breaking up and then the music coming in right at the perfect timing what what devil what what what enemy what what can stop us when the sacred is going out the holy words are going out the practice and the preparation and the faithfulness of every of every singer and musician who's spent so many hours dedicating their their self to their craft whether it's strings or keys or or Sopranos and Altos and Tenors and and and then God told people like me stay away from that because I want it to be good it's that important Elijah wanted to hear from God so he called a Minstrel King Saul was troubled David can you can you play the harp and point up to heaven and just ease ease my troubled mind King Solomon's Temple the musicians were said to prophesy with their instruments and let me introduce this tonight as well that the music that I'm talking about not only in the literal but also in your profession and your vocation the the things that you do as I mentioned is a song and is music to this world and it's a new song it's not a happy-go-lucky absent-minded or naive song that overlooks the hardships of this world but it's a song that we collectively sing and we sing it oftentimes in the face of adversity because sometimes when we read that personally I sing a new song that's when everything is going good and I'm sprinting in The Meadows with my dog and the sun is shining no no it's a new song that says I raise a Hallelujah right in the presence of my enemy I'm going to sing in the middle of the storm it's a it's a song Sometimes It's a cry out of Mercia I waited patiently on the Lord and He inclined it to me and heard My Cry sometimes it's a song of the past I thought you were talking about singing a new song it's a song of the past times are coming here how are we going to do it how are we going to get that next step done and Bishop can get up with his tidbits of the past he can tell about the Miracles of how this church was built oh and a new song becomes developed because I start to think if God did it then here goes that Mike again if God did it then he might just be able to do that today as well if God Did It For That generation if I'll be faithful and I'll put my trust in him he might just do it for me as well it's not revisionist history it's not us looking back uh wanting to go back it's looking to the back it's looking back to know that in the present oh I've got a new song my faith is built I know that he did it for this generation he's going to do it for this generation as well give the Lord a hand clap of praise it brings a song of Thanksgiving that's dispersed for my lips it's a it's a song in the present that says I'm going to set my feet up on the rock each and every one of us have a song each and every one of us has something that we're identified by each and every one of us has words that exit our lips so the question will yours be a depressing Melody of one who sees their self as one who was born to lose is it criticism cynicism skepticism can't think of anything else that starts with ISM or something along those lines that people dread to sit with you to to Fellowship because you know some problems going to go up oh yes problems happen but you can communicate them and address them in an effective manner the world's not coming to an end with every situation that takes place take a deep breath eat a Snickers bar it's going to be okay that's not I don't know what's happening okay chill out God is in control we have a new song we have a higher language that's not my aspiration to preach some positivity uh pep in your step but if your trust in his word your words will be edified and everything you do oftentimes in the most trying of circumstances will be the time when that song is heard the loudest that you point up to heaven if he gave us a new song that means there must have been an old one that preceded it and we we must be careful to stay away from that second Corinthians 5 17 says if any man be in Christ a new creature old things are passed away we we have to push that stuff behind us because all things are become new we'll get there and some people under the sound of my voice you want to celebrate you want to have victory and I can't sit here and say 100 I know what you're going through or you know just worship him and it's all going to be all right that seems kind of shallow in a lot of different ways because there's some people under the sound of my voice who who have been battling absolute hell demons coming at them from all kinds of different directions and attack upon attack by the enemy not over a week span sometimes not over even just a month but just like over years and things have just begun to accumulate one of my favorite verses of scripture job 35 10. it says but none saith where is God my maker who giveth songs in the night I can't stand up here and say I I know what you're going through there was only one man who ever did that he died for our sins in place of that but I can say that we serve a God who will give you a song in the darkest of night he'll never leave you nor forsake you everyone else around you might abandon you no one else around you might might not be able to understand what you're going through or be able to identify it with any manner sometimes I'll tell people if you need anything call me not that I could probably do anything but I'll listen and and I'll be there because what am I what am I going to tell somebody going through something so severe but I can tell you and point to the word of God that we serve a God who will give you a song in the night the soul is part of man the Mind our will and emotions and as we've talked about thus far it tends to be powerfully influenced by the environment and it's relatively easy to break forth into singing when the Warm Rays of the sun are beaming down or the Brilliant Blue Sky is upon us but sometimes it's interrupted as the sun slips behind the Horizon and the sky turns dark it's often at those times that it's increasingly difficult if almost impossible to sing that new song but the song of the believer does not come from without it comes from within even in the inky Blackness seems to conceal all manner of lurking evil even if no star twinkles against the night sky we still have a song and our songs are given by God even in the night so I want to tell you tonight even if there's Tears while you're singing even if there's weeping I want you to know that it only endures for the night and joy is coming in the morning that's why we sing I put it all in his hands I don't know what else to do but I put it all in his hands I raise a Hallelujah I remember that song I've got a feeling that everything is going to be all right or Victory in Jesus my Savior forever or I go to the Rock for honey and and for my salvation and we've got to have the mindset that our environment is not going to influence the song that we sing the Christian's mindset is one that the praise and the Adoration to heaven and the new song is from within and I I love the public proclamation of the Gospel I do and it gets me motivated but sometimes brother Nathan can come up here and just strike the right key and it just does something to my soul something I was vexed in my spirit there's just a calming from heaven or sometimes maybe I'm dealing with a little bit of fear and I and I hear a snare snort and start going and just the low end of that base and I'm just like I think I could go to war tonight I wish there was somebody that I could fight with I wish a giant would come out oh but there's sometimes there's sometimes there's not going to be any music sometimes there's not going to be any bass sometimes there's not going to be any drum sometimes I might just have to clap my hands and sing acapella but I'm going to sing that new song of somebody giving praise tonight somebody sing that song just for a second sing it just for a second why don't you open the windows of Heaven for a moment with that song of Praise why don't you rattle the gates of hell just for a moment with that hand clap of praise yes Jesus it's something new to your day and eat something new there's something new being poured out there's a page being turned tonight you've been weeping for a night but joy Joy's coming in the morning Joy is coming in the morning I believe it tonight yes Jesus yes Jesus remember not the former things neither consider the things of old behold I will do a new thing this is the prophet Isaiah speaking he said behold I'm going to do a new thing this is God's mouthpiece speaking to his people and he's bringing a prophetic voice a direct message from Heaven a direct message from God and he is prophesied to God's people who are in captivity to Babylon and he says the same power that was used in the deliverance from Egypt is the same power that's going to be used in the deliverance from Babylon praise God and he said this is what the Lord says he who made a way through the sea a path to the mighty Waters who drew out the Chariots and horses the Army and reinforcements together and they lay there never to rise again and you know the prophets building them up he said you remember when God made Aaron Rod turn into a serpent you remember the ten plagues water turning into blood frogs lies flies Egypt's livestock hailed from Heaven Locust Darkness first born of slave parting the Red Sea Manna From Heaven water from the rock parting of the Jordan River the wall of Jericho the sun and moon sand still God sang through Isaiah yeah the same power and then I Isaiah says you know what remember don't even remember the things of old that's nothing because God is going to do a new thing remember not the things of old it was great it was mighty yeah I kind of contradicted Myself by reminiscing about him it was that old song becoming a new song but don't don't even focus on the things of old because I'm going to do something so great that you're not even going to be able to spend one moment or one second focusing on oh bondage or even old Victory I'm going to do something so great right there in the midst of your current Calamity and Babylon and I'm going to do something brand no remember how God delivered you out of Egypt oh yeah yeah yeah forget about it Egypt was miraculous Escape but don't worry about it there's deliverance from Babylon is going to be even greater it hasn't happened yet but go ahead and count on it praise God for it victory has already been counted and it's going to be nothing compared to the new thing and in the context also as we identify Egypt and compare and contrast them to Babylon as I speak to God's people tonight we we can all attest and recognize our deliverance out of Egypt and how God brought us up and throughout the Old Testament and even in the New Testament Egypt is used oftentimes as a metaphor for a type and Shadow of sin coming up out of Egypt but then when you look at the current besiegement of Babylon Daniel 1 says Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged so this type of captivity it came to Jerusalem it came in the church house and got you in bondage it took you a while you were on the Pew wow you're being used wow you were performing whatever Ministry it is that you do and Babylon came in and besieged you and you might identify yourself in a certain situation maybe sin or or maybe just a a drought in your life where you're like the Lost coin where you're in the house feel lost and Babylon may have besieged you and came into you it might have been in the form of a relationship or or it might have been look what we talked about earlier where you returned back to a an addiction or you were turned back to a relationship and if you could do it all over again you would I I had such a mighty new wine I had I had such a a great thing going and I know I was supposed to preserve it I know I was supposed to protect it but I started pouring that thing into something old that God already delivered me out of and now I find myself captivated by Babylon I recognize my my conversion from Egypt of of course I have a mighty testimony but but now but now I feel bound up because of my current Babylon because it took place while I was being used it took place while I was in the choir it took place while I was playing an instrument it took place after I took on the name of Jesus it took place while I was in Jerusalem and sometimes you maybe tonight you've prayed for things to turn around but you still don't feel free but you're you're sitting on a Pew but sometimes you don't feel truly delivered but I want you to know tonight don't listen to the lies of the enemy and don't sing the lyrics of this world you're not lazy and you don't lack passion and it's not that you're uninterested and it's not that you lack determination or talent and it's not because God hasn't used you but maybe it's because you feel like you're no longer good enough and God's forgiven you and others haven't has forgiven you but maybe you haven't truly forgiven yourself and you recognize the Deliverance out of Egypt but you now find yourself in the chains of Babylon or maybe you find yourself just coming to church and being faithful which is great but you have your calling on neutral and Idol I want you to know that the enemy claims Victory if you're just a spectator instead of a participator he claims Victory if you're just coming in because you have such a power in you you have a song that is to be sung you have a witness in your life and maybe you're here tonight and you feel bound up or a mistake and you keep beating yourself up over and your mind's oppressed with regret but I want you to know that the new thing that Isaiah was prophesying about he was prophesying about current victory in that situation but he was also pointing ahead to a time when God would reveal himself to man and God would wrap himself in flesh and he would call this new thing the Messiah Jesus Christ who would say if any man be in Apostle Paul would say if any man be in Christ behold all things are become new and there's fresh mercy and there's fresh Grace every single day and this new thing Jesus Christ it was greater than Egypt and it's greater than your current Babylon it's greater than anything in your past it's greater than anything you're dealing with right now and he's greater than anything you're going to deal with Tomorrow there's victory in your past there's victory in your present and there's victory in your future and that new thing Jesus Christ wants to say to you tonight that you have forgiveness you have mercy and my Deliverance tonight is going to be greater than the Deliverance you got last week I know you made a mistake but listen you've got Mercy you've got Grace I'm not talking about sweeping it under the rug I'm talking about covering it under the blood of Jesus Christ and there is a fresh anointing and there is a fresh pouring out of my spirit and he wants to do it again stand with me tonight this new thing Jesus Christ is is greater than anything that you're currently dealing with this new thing Jesus Christ is greater than any mistake that you've made this new thing Jesus Christ is greater than any regret that oppresses your mind the next time that he brings you out it's going to be greater than the last time remember what I did for you a week ago forget about it remember when I brought you out of Egypt you know made the sea part forget about that I've got fresh manna for today each and every time the Deliverance is greater than the last time and listen to me there is no diminishing return on God's mercy and Grace and you obviously I'm not talking about a lascivious form of Grace like Pastor McCool preached about this morning I'm not talking about you know I confess this and I can do anything no no no you you know this don't nobody purposefully uh misinterpret what I'm saying what I'm saying is there is fresh mercy and Grace and house and there's no diminishing return on it there it's an unlimited Supply that no matter what you've done no matter how many times you think I can't go to the altar again they're going to see me come keep coming keep coming I hate to hear some people say oh she's going to the altar again no yeah that's smart keep coming to the altar every time every time it's open and and don't be somebody that has a watchful I'm doing well I wonder what they did go up and pray for them look around you not everybody might be comfortable coming up to the altar take a moment while you're out there in the audience even and say hey can I pray for you every time might not be the saith the Lord come out of you right now and no the offer to pray with somebody and say hey I don't know what my brother or sister is going through and I don't need to know but God give us a touch together tonight God we're in the ending together give them some fresh wine tonight be attentive to those around you be attentive to the needs that's what we're here for we're seeing an assault and if you need something new tonight no if you've been in a season of weeping that there is Joy coming in the morning as I close there's been significant debate over when the biblical day begins certain biblical texts seem to indicate that the day begins in the morning and the other that it begins in the evening Scholars long believe that the Day begin at sunset according to Jewish tradition Jews begin their religious holidays in the evening and the biblical text mandates that the two most important religious feasts to pass over in the day of atonement began at sunset evening the word era in Hebrew it means Darkness dusk uh sun sunset it came out of the understanding of obscurity mixture chaos he he can't see and the morning is the opposite sunlight pierces the darkness and Things become discernible it the sunlight produces growth and vision entropy decreases visibility is restored and seeming order ensues foreign debate whether maybe in the chapter of your life God's not done with that chapter and the the son your day's not over and the sun's going to rise I agree with that I liked it but also maybe you're just needing a new day and you're in the darkness of Night and the sun's going to come up in the morning and start a new day I'm not here to cross theological swords with you because here's the one thing I do know in both circumstances son is going to come up and your problem has no control whether the sun comes up your problem has no influence on whether the sun rises the Sun is going to rise there's going to be a new morning if you'll endure with that song in the night if you'll endure with keeping your that that thing in the in the new wine skin God is going to protect God is going to provide and the sun the Sun is going to come up so I'm not here to argue with you about the calendar or when something takes place but I do know that this is the day the Lord hath made I will rejoice and be glad in it I can't get up here and prophesy every single situation that you're facing but I do know if you'll Raise A Hallelujah right in the midst of your storm right in the presence of your enemy if you'll if if you'll dance to the music just a little bit even if you're making it yourself I believe God's hand is going to move this altar is open right now for anyone who wants something new if you want something new in your life I wouldn't wait another moment he is here to pour out new wine he is here to pour out fresh Mercy he is here to pour out fresh grapes he is here to bring order out of your cage
