Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Pray More Earnestly, and the Road Again
- He opens with Jesus in agony praying more earnestly, his sweat as great drops of blood: if Jesus could pray more earnestly, so can we — and he leads the church to pray earnestly for its sick by name and by list.
- Back from Joplin, Missouri, where he was inducted into the hall of fame, he reads a chapter of the family memoir: after resigning the church burned out, he and his wife evangelized for three years, parking their trailer at his twin brother Bobby's in Johnson City.
- His son Mark was four years old when they took to the road again, singing and testifying on a chair as part of the evangelistic party, and the road ended in 1965 with a call back to the Knoxville work he had founded.
Scriptures: Luke 22:44
The God of Deliverance — Leaving Slavery
- The lesson's text is Moses' song: I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation.
- He walks the Exodus backstory: God made Moses a god to Pharaoh and Aaron his prophet, hardened Pharaoh's heart, and multiplied his signs so that the Egyptians would know that he is the Lord.
- Live in the present and look to the future, but do not forget the past — the miracles must be reviewed and renewed, or doubt will do its work.
- The Passover is read entire: the lamb eaten with loins girded and staff in hand, the blood a token on the houses — when I see the blood, I will pass over you — kept as a memorial feast forever, and commemorated now in the Lord's supper.
Scriptures: Exodus 15:1-2; Exodus 7:1-7; Exodus 12:11-14
But Now I Know — the Lesson's Sideline
- From his own old sermon he reads of Abraham on the mountain: the angel staying the knife, and God's word — now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son. The God who chooses not to remember our sins chose not to know beforehand how Abraham would answer.
- Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness, and he was called the friend of God; Paul desired to know Christ in the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.
- The miter joint teaches conformity: two pieces each giving up part of itself to fit the other — the saw of sorrow cuts away stubbornness, jealousy, and carnality so the believer is jointly formed with Christ.
- Job's word pictures adversity as salt that flavors life, and the Moab text — at ease from his youth, settled on his lees, never emptied from vessel to vessel — teaches that God pours his people out from vessel to vessel to leave the dregs behind and make them pure, like wine whose process makes the difference.
- What he told a young couple who had lost their son: something has been taken away, but something has been given — hurt and grief add a fullness and depth, a doctor of disappointment, that equips them one day to comfort others.
Scriptures: Genesis 22:11-12; James 2:23; Philippians 3:10; Job (book-only, as spoken); Jeremiah 48:11
The Ten Commandments
- The second lesson's focus verse is the close of Romans: the mystery now made manifest by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith.
- From the sea's crossing he turns to the law given to a delivered people, reading the commandments through: no other gods, no graven image, the name not taken in vain, the sabbath remembered, father and mother honored, and the prohibitions of killing, adultery, theft, false witness, and coveting.
- Jesus gathers the whole law into two commandments — love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and mind, and love thy neighbor as thyself — and the lesson closes guarding that love against the malice the enemy works to plant.
Scriptures: Romans 16:25-27; Exodus 20:1-17; Matthew 22:37-40

praise the lord everyone praise the lord everyone as pastor was a giving prayer request tonight i thought of a scripture in luke 22 44 and it says and being in an agony he prayed more earnestly and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground now i said that to say this i'm not coming behind pastor to redo something but if jesus could pray more earnestly we can pray more earnestly and what i'm alluding to at that we have some folks in this church that really needs a touch from god sister peggy needs healing sister darlene needs healing we uh brother nathan summers he's had two toes amputated this last week and he's a diabetic and and that can that can be very serious and also sister flannery and the list goes on you've seen the list as the prayer request goes up but there are some very serious conditions in this church and what i'm going to ask you to do and i feel led to do this tonight and i don't think there's a person in this building that has a would pray an insincere prayer but this scripture is speaking of jesus and said and being in an agony he prayed more earnestly if jesus had a degree of prayer that he could pray more earnestly don't you know that we can pray more earnestly and we may not be able to call each one of their names uh but would you stand your feet with me right now because i i feel led to do this i want us to pray more earnestly than we've ever prayed for all of these god knows their name we don't have to call their name god knows the name father in the name of jesus we bring these precious folks to you you know the list of the saints of god in this church i pray dear god that you would touch and heal our brother and sister flannery on their way home from arizona god i pray for them i pray for brother nathan summers he's been so faithful and and helping out the church when we need him we pray for our sister pagan we pray for sister darlene and there are many others the names i cannot recall but you know each one father i pray in earnest tonight that you would touch and heal and deliver in the precious name of jesus we pray amen and amen god bless you and you may be seated and we are delighted to be back home pastor was a tremendous chauffeur i did not drive a mile he he drove us all the way out there about 700 a little better miles one way and we had a a great time met some wonderful people and some of the great greats of our of our faith you all have heard of of uh gt haywood uh i got to see his own personal bible bishop gigi haywood he was one of those in that azusa street revival and um in fact i think uh he helped uh close that revival because the jesus name message is what got them scattered out because some it got the revelation of jesus the mighty god and some didn't but anyway some of the greatest names in our faith and we need to remember them and thank god for the the heroes of the faith not because i'm in it i was uh inducting number 68 and what we're going to do lord willing this coming sunday night i'm going to preach to you what i preach to them you're going to hear what i preach when i'm away from home and and i'm going to i some preachers uh they use their their church people as whooping boys when they go somewhere else they tell this and well i'm gonna i'm gonna give you my address that i gave to the the crowd of people there at the joplin missouri and by that time we're gonna get with brother derek and we've got a bunch of slides to show you a bunch of pictures and uh they they've got uh uh different men of god that uh that we certainly need to uh recognize and not memorialize as a to idolize but we need to thank god for men and women of the truth and so lord willing this coming sunday night i said now lord willing this coming sunday night you be here i didn't even know they knew we were sung but they even requested sister mccool and pastor mark mccoma scepter saying we did and also i have got a surprise to tell you about and i'll hold that till sunday night there was an award that that was uh kept a secret uh and it wasn't it wasn't uh it wasn't uh to me they gave me the award they wanted to give and i appreciate it very much but the greatest award i have is the calling of god upon my life there's nothing more important nothing higher than the call of god we've been reading a little history our history yours and mine and it's called 50 years of memories would you like to hear another chapter in that all right i've been reading a little of that so before we get into the lesson tonight this uh this chapter is entitled on the road again we left last week or the last time we gave a a report on this of when i resigned the church and i was burned out and uh we uh we i just i i i just pleaded with god and i got to the place now i'm telling you this it'll it'll go with our lesson tonight everybody goes to a valley and you sometimes get to the place and well did i really hear from god did i really did i miss god i thought i surely heard from god why why is things happening like they are i laid in the floor of that pink 41 foot eight foot wide used trailer house trailer and i wept a puddle of tears on that i'll i can still see that black and pink uh linoleum floor uh on the floor of that uh house trailer uh vinyl floor and and god send me give me reassurance have somebody call me right now i was waiting for the somebody to call said uh kind of like i got the phone call over the restrooms here when when pastor and i were praying but it didn't come i i had i could not it says oh god turn to deaf ear well i resigned and uh then this is the next chapter of the on on the history of 50 years of memories and this is entitled on the road again we packed up the pink house trailer and had it towed to johnson city tennessee where my twin brother bobby was pastoring parked it in his backyard that became our little hideaway when we needed a few days rest from the rigors of revival for the next three years we evangelized mark was four years old when we started traveling again and he was quite an attraction i might really still is he would stand on a chair or stool and sing and testify he was an important member of this new evangelistic party his singing became such a significant part of the evangelistic party it was suggested that we make a record mark made his first record at sam phillips studio in memphis tennessee the world famous studio where elvis presley made his first record to this day i have people tell me they still have that record and play it for their children we purchased a 26-foot airstream trailer and a new 63 oldsmobile that we use traveling preaching and singing for uh singing and i tried singing for jesus i tried to forget knoxville uh we may have the picture that uh astrum trader on the screen i'm not sure but sister mccool we were set in different homes and and it became a a very nerve uh racking and shattering situation uh some didn't have air conditioning and some you'd have to go through their bedroom to go to the bathroom and uh it became a very very trying time and we was in in cato illinois and we looked out in the field and uh there was a shutdown um they used to have drive-in theaters and out there that big field was a airstream trailer that was all corroded over and that was considered a very expensive uh trailer in those days i think they still are but i negotiated with the people and we purchased that airstream trailer mark had been we've been saving money we had a little a little bank it looked like a silver dollar it was about that big had a slot in the top and um he said daddy uh you could have my my savings to put on that trailer and sure enough we accepted it and put it with it to make a down payment on that trailer and then sister mccool and i would pull that trailer out into a park and uh every day we would go out and and and take a solution and shine that trailer it was a it was a rigorous job but uh you can if you if it's on the screen you see how pretty it turned out to be and and we we had a uh our home away from home and god was good to us and we saw many souls come to the lord but every time we went through knoxville or knoxville was mentioned i had that recurring pain deep in my heart we were in revival in kingsport tennessee when i got word that brother mckinney wanted to get in touch with me i called him and he told me he wanted to give up the church and since i was the founding pastor he felt inappropriate that i was notified i told brother mckinney i would be there the next sunday and preach a few nights service and see about getting them a pastor now if you listen to your history you're listening to your history now um everybody reaches that burnout spot sometime or another and you've got to look ahead and and see what god has in store you don't know at the time sometimes you think you don't have anything but disappointment the lord blessed and we had a great revival i then realized that this was god's way of maneuvering us back to knoxville we had evangelized three wonderful years i'd gotten rested and rejuvenated and was now ready to continue the work god had sent me to knoxville to do it was 1965 the pressure of the past were just that they were passed we immediately started a program to build an auditorium on top of that old flat roof basement but the devil was not dead and we were soon to be tested again and next time i'll be giving you a chapter about near tragedy things happen in the work of god there's there's ebb and flow and now then we're going to get into the lesson uh we we have an adult uh lesson uh book and we're two weeks behind and getting that lesson tonight i plan to uh i plan to hit the high points of the last two lessons and get us caught up and tonight's lesson is for is lesson 1.2 which means it was a second lesson in the fall uh session and i'm entitling this high points of lessons 1.2 and lesson 1.3 for september 11 2022 series 1 the god of deliverance aren't you glad you know the god of deliverance now i've been reading you from a little history he is a god of deliverance now you may not know uh you may not have the same thing that some folks have but in our lesson it tells about a young man that was he was in his 30s and he was in bible school and he he was a very poor student he had to work very hard come to find out he had been pushing grocery buggies during the day and uh at night he'd go out behind the the grocery store and shoot up with drugs and and he was hooked on drugs and one night a fellow came to him and told him that jesus loved him and could deliver him and offered him a way to church and he took him to church and that man got the holy ghost and he he found out that god instantly delivered him from drug addiction uh alcohol addiction and while he was slow the rest of his students in his class in the bible school were in their their late teens early 20s he was up in his 30s but he made a preacher and a great worker for god now what i'm telling you that form is is there's people here tonight that god has delivered from something that uh that you you might not even realize and yours may not be a drug addiction but god knows what you're going through tonight and we're teaching tonight god of deliverance and tonight's lesson is leaving slavery exodus 15 and 1 then saying moses and the children of israel this song unto the lord and he spake saying i will sing unto the lord for he hath triumphant gloriously the horse and his rider hath be thrown into the sea the lord is my strength and son and he has become my salvation he is my god and i will prepare him in habitation my father's god and i will exalt him now you uh perhaps everybody in this audience is somewhat of a bible uh student and you know what we're reading about now you know how joseph got down to egypt by his brothers selling him and so forth i'm not going to go through all of that but now then 400 years had passed and the the pharaohs knew joseph and respected him they'd all died and joseph that had transported his own family down to egypt and they were given choice land and choice property with no taxes and were given special privileges but now then things had changed that lived in egypt so long so many of them were born in egypt and did not even know what it was to be an israelite and and now then moses is having that god called him you remember our last lesson he was the baby in the little ark that was laid in the bulrushes that the mother had had devised for him and this is many many many years after joseph had gone down to egypt and i would like to stress this to all of us i i i might i might i might develop this sermon entitled live in the present look to the future but don't forget the past don't live in the past live in the present and look to the future but don't forget don't forget where we are the bible said uh see and ask for the old paths wherein is the good way and walk there in the bible and say but they said they will not walk in it don't forget the old paths don't forget the old doctrine don't forget the truth it don't change it remains the same but if you're not careful you could be away from it you can be away from the house of god you can be with the wrong crowd that's why the bible said come out from among them and be ye separate saith the lord you can't live with the world every day and socialize and and stay away from the house of god and still yet maintain and retain your consciousness of your identity now then you know how moses uh got the children of israel together well here's what happened after all the plagues that god sent on egypt then the last great plague god said they won't let my people go at midnight tonight the death angel is going to sweep over egypt and the firstborn of all egypt if they don't have the blood applied to the doorposts or the lenders of their house the firstborn is going to die now they had shut up the the little lamb uh pastor anthony preached about this here a while back about the the lamb how i became a pet but they they had to sacrifice that lamb and put the blood uh over the lentil or the doorpost of the house and god said when i see the blood i will pass over you now even if it was uh an israelite if they disobeyed if they were stubborn and rebellious and would not put the blood over their doorposts the firstborn of that house that for the animal and human beings the firstborn would die and the lord said to moses see i made thee a god to pharaoh and aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet thou shall speak all that i commune with thee and aaron thy brother shall speak unto pharaoh and he shall send the children of israel out of the land and i will harden pharaoh's heart and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of egypt but pharaoh shall not hearken unto you that i may lay my hand upon egypt and bring forth mine armies and my people the children of israel out of the land of egypt by great judgments now let me pause there now i taught a few weeks ago uh uh about um have you considered and you remember and brother hammond preached along those lines this last sunday night i listened to him but when when the disciples were out on the boat and they were frightened when jesus came walking on the water and the bible said he would have passed by but they cried out and jesus come the storm and it said to the disciples said you didn't consider the loaves and the fishes you just saw a mighty miracle but now then you you think you've seen a spirit you're afraid you didn't consider what i did just a little while ago and and what i'm saying now we don't consider what god has done so so many wonderful things don't forget them review them renew them keep on reviewing them in your heart it'll give you more faith if you now if you just keep on talking about the doubting things you're going to be a doubter now then they start out and and and they're they're headed to the promised land and the egyptians shall know that i am the lord now why did god do what he did now i i told you in that bible i said several weeks in a row um he would have passed it by but they he made them respond to them and they cried out and then we went on to the resurrection when he was crucified remember he was walking down the road to emmaus with the two other disciples of his and they didn't recognize him and he acted like he was a stranger and he went along and when they got to he he made them tell me him all about the crucifixion this hadn't you heard and hadn't you heard and but he made them renew and review all of this and they didn't even know they was talking to jesus and when they got to the turn up to emmaus they he acted like he was going to go on but they said it's getting late you go go home with us and he turned and went with him now what i'm saying to you about that i don't understand god said i'm going to harden pharaoh's heart he's not going to let you go i'm going to do it but god allowed things to happen even though he hardened pharaoh's heart he's going to show the egyptians and the israelites that he's the god of deliverance and there's some things that you and i don't understand why it happens like it does i thought this and i thought i had my healing i thought i had my deliverance i thought and then it don't work and god lets me know that he's still the god of deliverance even though things look very cloudy and very dark something hold on to god just keep on believing him he's still yet the god of deliverance give the lord a hand clap well i started hitting the high points and i hope you can remember the former bible studies the egyptians shall know that i am the lord when i stretch forth my hand upon the egyptians and bringing the children of israel out from among them and moses and aaron did as the lord commanded them so did they and moses was four score years old and aaron was four scoring three years aaron was three years older than moses when they spake unto pharaoh now i got in my notes here refer to a sermon that i preached entitled now i know let me see if i can let me see if i can get that for you um i wanna i wanna i wanna review this just uh a message i i'm taking from a sermon i preached for the funeral of denny and alana olivier's baby boy dennis dean iii he was still born november the 2nd 1966 in johnson city and this was uh my funeral sermon it's been revised and added too but here's what i preached genesis 22 11 12 and the angel of the lord called unto him out of heaven and said abraham abraham and he said here am i and he said lay not thy hand on the lad neither do thou anything unto him for now i know whoa hold on a minute god said for now i know you mean the god that's supposed to know everything didn't know what the bible said god said now i know that thou fierce god seeing that thou hast not withheld thy son by an only son from me the god who can choose not to remember our sins chose not to know how abraham would react to the enormous request to give up his son god sometimes chooses not to know how we will react under certain circumstances do you get that well i don't know whether i do or not that's that's kind of hard to get to god chooses not to know and and well he knows how i'm going to get through this no god chooses not to know and when when he told abraham to take isaac up there and slay him he let him go all the way to the top of the mountain carry the wood on his shoulders build a fur get ready and when abraham drew back the knife to slay his son the angel of god said hold it don't touch him god said now i know that thou hast not withheld thy son but i don't say god allows some things to happen to let us know more about ourselves james 2 23 says and the scriptures fulfilled which saith abraham believed god and it was imputed unto him for righteousness and he was called a friend of god true friendship is not nurtured by good times the prodigal was not lacking in friends as long as times were good those to whom we bond and whom we believe are those who stick with us in the bad times there's no question about god's faithfulness and friendship but there comes a time when god allows us to know him in the fellowship of his suffering oh somebody say praise the lord paul said in philippians 3 that i may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering being made conformable unto his death that that conformity it means a a great variety of applications that i may know him of the power of the resurrection and fellowship of his suffering being made conformable unto his death conformable means jointly formed pastor preached a fantastic sermon recently about the joints there's a butt joint and there's a miter joint the the the so-called butt joint as two pieces of wood just butted together and you glue them there and they're not very strong but if the old carpenter takes it and you put it in a in a miter box and it cuts it on a on a 45 degree angle and the other piece it cuts them and when it gets done the pieces fit together one gives up half of itself and the other gives up half of itself and so it fits together around this this building you can see places where they the the artisans the the carpenters put this wood together in such a beautiful manner that you can't hardly tell this is two pieces of wood well the way we become conformable to him i've got to give up part of myself i've got to give up my stubbornness i've got to give up my jealousy i've got to give up my carnality i've got to get up my fleshly desires because i've got to conform to would you love him [Applause] jointly formed a miter joint means that two pieces have been cut on similar angles each having giving up part of itself in order to fit the other so as to appear as one piece when joined together sometimes it's the saw of sorrow which cuts away a part of us allowing us to conform to the nature of christ sometimes if everything always is beautiful there's no problem no nothing no nothing we can sometimes get complacent and not realize it we've got to trust in god but the soul of suffering the soul sometimes of disappointment that crushes me to my knees gives me a closer relationship with god you see sometimes it's the saw of sorrow which cuts away part of us allowing us to conform to the nature of christ well let me go on when job was called into question because of his misfortune he responded by saying can that which is unsavory even be eaten without salt or is there any taste in the white of an egg job was saying that adversity was the salt which flavored and gave balance to life i wish i could thank mark you pastored in in nashville tennessee uh benton uh beckton brother cleveland beckton he preached a message at the music conference in jackson mississippi years ago and uh brother beckton is a great musician and and and he preached about uh this uh uh sewer that i'm talking about right now and uh a um he talked about he sat down at the piano and he played i said now you know this is a good sound right here and then he hit a half note which was a kind of a sad note and then he said a happy note and that half note is a is a sad note and the musicians know what we're talking about it's called a minor chord that's a minor and it by itself is is a it's just a sad feeling but if you put that together with the other what of it you got a symphony you put it all together it makes beautiful music now then when god allows you to experience a certain amount of suffering a certain amount of disappointment along with a certain amount of joy and happiness you're going to have a symphony that's going to bring joy and happiness to you give the lord a handclap some battles will leave you bleeding and wounded however some battles can be won no other way i call it the ministry of injury god told uh the man said the servant said tell them how to hit you smack you and the man wouldn't smite him and he said god's gonna let a lion smite you and and he did he met another man to smite me and he did he smote him now what god was teaching him by the ministry of injury he had the opportunity to lay away and do away with the syrian wicked king and he let him go what's the means the blending of the sheep long and he didn't do what god told him to do there are some things that that we only get from god that we can only give to god until we've had the experience of disappointment well let me go on uh moab has been at ease from his youth and he has settled on his leaves and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel neither had they gone into captivity therefore his tastes remaineth in him and his scent is not changed does that sound a little familiar i believe pastor touched on that the ancient technique for making wine first required the picking and the crushing of the grapes this was accomplished by the treading on by foot and the wine vat for true juices of our lives to flow we must sometimes be walked on until we're crushed the container of the grape juice was provided for by the death of an animal whose skin became the womb for the wine after the juice is put in the animal skin it's sealed because fermentation can only take place in an environment absent about air though crushed strained and sealed the grape juice still possesses the properties necessary for fermentation and that dark wet world inside the goat a miracle is taking place enzymes and bacteria are transforming the crushed grape juice into wine which has the ability to gladden the heart and lift the spirits of man and my study on this subject i found something very interesting once the wine once the wine skin had been unstopped and its contents exposed to the air it had to be poured into smaller vessels or else it would grow sour and become a form of vinegar i really got something out of that the way the wine is made it's we've got to be we've got to be plucked from the tree got to be crushed got to be walked them for the juices to come out and then the juice has to be put in the in the skin and the dark wet world the enzymes are taking place and it's fermenting but now it's got to be taken out of that and pastor made mention of this the the the the grape juice or the wine was poured from this vessel and you leave the drugs behind and you the more times it's poured out the more the the waste is left behind until it becomes more pure at all times you wonder why sometimes god gets you poured out and you're poured out he's making you more pure he's taking out the drugs you see what what he said here here he's not he's not been poured from uh uh content to content and the process of the grape juice is not transformed into wine but the goat skim has been expanded to its fullest and his tanning process has taken place the skin was then ornamented decorated and prized as a treasure these are those whom god loves and trusts enough to use their lives as a winery for they can endure the crushing and confinement the suffering and the sorrow which eventuates in the depth of character you see god has ways of emptying us leaving behind the sediments which interfere with the taste and texture the product of this process must then be put into smaller vessels and shared or else it will result in becoming sour if you don't share your experience you're going to get sour if you don't if you don't put it into smaller vessels that's why we talk about uh at the well when when when rebecca said i'll i'll water your camel's on and she took the her picture and poured it into other another vessels that they could drink out of what god has called us to do right here at knoxville first apostolic church is to share what he's given to us with others if we don't do it we'll become stuck up we'll become carnal and we won't realize our real purpose the difference between 99 cent grape juice and 50 dollar champagne is not the product but the process moab has not been emptied from vessel to vessel therefore his taste remaineth in him and his scent is not changed in music the note is less by half step than the corresponding major music would be monotonous indeed if it was only played on one unvarying tone it takes little towel and time to learn to play chopsticks on the piano however it takes dedication discipline and perseverance for the combination of high notes low notes majors and minors to culminate into a symphony i'm not making any sense to you i i i understand what i'm talking about if we understand a little bit more of of here's what i said to denny and alana when they lost their their first son denny and alana and brittany that was their daughter of course they're all grown now this has been way back in the 90s something has been taken away from you but something has been given to you an element of hurt grief and disappointment these low notes and minor chords will add to your life and ministry a fullness and depth which are lacking in the lives of many it will give you the ability in the future to put your arms around young couples who have lost a child and say i understand and it will have meaning and depth which will help heal their hurt denny and alana you have just earned your dd your doctor of disappointment well if if you understand what we're talking about now all right let us go back to our our study of leaving slavery now i know exodus 12 and 11 and thus shall you eat it with your loins girder than your shoes on your feet and your staff and your ham and you shall eat it in haste it is the lord's passover um that that blood they put on the doorpost then they ate the lamb which was the passover lamb and that's why they observed the lord's supper as the passover it's to to commemorate that lamb that was slain to put the blood on the doorpost and and the lentil of the house now you and i need to relive that that's why we have our lord supper that's why we have communion uh once a year usually around easter time because it is as off as you do this you do it in remembrance of me and so that's taking us that's what i'm talking about we live in the present look to the future but don't forget the past he said as often as you do this you do it in remembrance of me he said now some of you coming except when you come to the church you're not coming to eat uh you said some of you are hungry and some of you are drunken you don't know what this is all about he said you're eating and drinking damnation to your soul now then we come not to eat and drink and to fill the flesh but we come and eat and drink and this commemorates the blood of jesus that was shed for us and the body that was broken for us and that's why it is so sacred to us when we have this communion service and we pastor and sister jamie did such a beautiful job of getting this prepared this this last easter thus shall you eat it with your lawns girded your shoes on your feet and your staff in your hand and you shall eat it in haste and it is the lord's passover for i will pass through the land egypt this night and will smile all the firstborn and the land of egypt at both man and beast and against all the gods of egypt i will execute judgment the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are and when i see the blood i will pass over you and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you when i smite the land of egypt and this day shall be unto you for a memoral and you shall keep it a feast to the lord throughout your generations you shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever now we're going to go to lesson 1.3 that was for this last sunday september the 18th 2022 and it's still in the same vein because it's on the ten commandments and i'm watching the clock the ten commandments our focus verse is romans 16 26 but now is made manifest and by the scriptures of the prophets according to the commandment of the everlasting god made known to all nations for the obedience of faith lesson text exodus 21 and god speak all these words saying i am the lord thy god which have brought thee out of the land of egypt out of the house of bondage thou shalt have no other gods before me now you understand they have now been delivered from egypt and now then that they here they're going well one thing i left out that i really should mention because when moses was singing his song about the the horse in his rider when they were going toward the promised land they looked behind and and pharaoh called his servants together and said why did we let our servants go so they were serving us said let's overtake them and bring them back so he started out took 600 chariots and his best trained men and started after the children of israel and they came up against the sea and and the some of the people in the crowd some of the israelites they said were there not enough graves in egypt said why didn't you leave us in egypt to die we could have been said rather than let us be slain here by pharaoh and his men how quickly we forget the good things have thou considered that all the miracles that god had performed coming through the wilderness and now then god said to moses said you you tell the the priest to take the ark step off of them and so the way and when they god said the wind started blowing and the and when it blew the the the sea rolled back on both sides with a big uh wall of water and the wind began to blow and dried the land out and the children of israel started walking across that night it's been said over a million people it's been calculated in different ways but as they started across that with water on each side pharaoh and his men they started also and the children of israel as they got through the sea god said moses lift up your rod and when it did the waters collapsed and everyone not a one of them escaped of the of the egyptians they were all drowned what god is doing to show them what he wants out of them and yet how quickly they forget now then after they get through now then god is going to give them a law to go by and that that is the ten commandments let's look at it thou shalt make thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath or that is in the waters under the earth thou shalt not bow down thyself to them to serve them for i the lord thy god i am a jealous god visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children upon the third and fourth generations and she'll mercy into thousands of them that love me thou shalt not take the name of the lord thy god in vain for the lord will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain remember the sabbath they keep it holy six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work but the seventh day is the sabbath of the lord thy god any of thou shall not do any work uh thou nor thy sons nor thy daughters nor men servants for in six days the lord made heaven and earth and all that are in them honor thy father i'm skipping through as you probably can well see honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the lamb which the lord thy god giveth thee thou shalt not kill thou shalt not commit adultery thou shalt not steal thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house thou shalt not cover thy neighbor's wife nor thy his man sailor or maidservant nor his ox nor his ass nor anything that is thy neighbors now can you imagine can you imagine our great country creating laws and an atmosphere that you cannot hang that on the wall of the courthouse used to be every courthouse had that on the wall the ten commandments but the atheists the agnostic and the enemies of the faith have changed the attitude of our generation that they they have created a situation that you cannot even hang the ten commandments on the wall that's why our country is in the shape that is in matthew 22 37 jesus said unto them thou shalt love the lord thy god with all thy heart with all thy soul and with all thy mind this is the first and great commandment and the second is like it thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself on these two commandments hang the law and the prophets he said let me give you this commandment thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself if we can get all the the the malice the devil will put things in our way uh that'll create an atmosphere of of malice toward somebody give you a reason let somebody say something that's that's offensive uh and and cause you to uh get get angry at them don't let it happen to you don't let it happen love thy neighbor as thyself what would you do to yourself we always make an allowance when we make a mistake if we don't do something just right we always but this is why it happened i did this and this is the reason that happened and then i i i i justify myself now to him that is a power to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of jesus christ according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the world began but now is made manifest and by the scriptures of the prophets according to the commandment of the everlasting god made known to all nations of the obedience of faith to god only wise be glory through jesus christ
