Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
An unusual service: the Bishop's testimony
- He calls it an unusual service: last Friday he fell deathly ill at home, was taken to the hospital emergency room, and was found to be throwing up what looked like blood; a nurse from the church family intervened with the doctor and he was taken straight in.
- A scope found a hiatal hernia and stomach ailments; he was stabilised and released the day before this service, and Pastor Mark stayed by his side through the emergency-room hours.
- His wife tells the rest of the weekend: the man who lives with them, who had lost the use of his legs after a stroke, was himself rushed to hospital on Saturday, and church members were found working at every turn — in the emergency rooms, and even at the facility that now gives him round-the-clock care.
- Tomorrow is their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary; he borrows a guitar, brings his wife to the platform, and sings her the song he wrote her — 'She's a beautiful lady' — the perfect preacher's wife, an angel sent down from above.
Tidbits from times past: a 1978 column
- He opens an old Voice of Pentecost and reads his 'Pastor and Profile' column of March 2, 1978, on Jesus weeping at the tomb of his friend Lazarus: Christ's tears were not hopelessness but concern — he knew he would raise his friend, yet he shared the family's sorrow.
- Hebrews 4:15 is quoted: we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; if God is touched by our trouble, we should be sensitive to others' problems, weeping with those that weep.
- The same paper announces a youth crusade in Oak Ridge where he was to be the crusade evangelist, and church news of baptisms and the sick, which he reads aloud with thanks.
Scriptures: John 11:35; Hebrews 4:15
Adorning the doctrine
- He winds up the study of his book Common Questions Concerning Apostolic Doctrine: its preface asks that doctrine never become a sword with which we wound, quoting Ephesians on endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, till we all come in the unity of the faith.
- The basic beliefs are recited: the Bible inspired, creation and the fall, the plan of redemption, and Jesus Christ, who was God incarnate — 1 Timothy 3:16 read aloud: without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness.
- The book's central question is asked again — the same question asked in Acts 2: 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?' Peter's answer is read entire: repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- Repentance is defined — to regret past sins and change one's actions — and Acts 10:48 is cited: he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
- The last segments concern adorning the doctrine, from Titus 2:10: lives so faithful in their own stations that critics are silenced; a hardware-store clerk's unsolicited praise of a church member's funeral-home kindness is told as the doctrine adorned.
Scriptures: Ephesians 4:3; Ephesians 4:13; 1 Timothy 3:16; Acts 2:37-38; Acts 10:48; Titus 2:10
Let us make man: the Godhead chapter
- The final chapter asks: who was God talking to when he said, 'Let us make man'? Genesis 1:26 is read, and Genesis 1:1 — in the beginning Elohim created — with 'Behold, the man is become as one of us' and 'Let us go down' gathered as the plural forms to be explained.
- A quoted author is read arguing that Elohim indicates a plurality of attributes, not persons — the same word is used of Baal, and Elohim was sold for thirty pieces of silver and pierced at Calvary; a Bible dictionary is then quoted calling it the plural of majesty, the fullness of divine strength.
- Romans 1:20 is read: the invisible things of him are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; man is himself three in one — soul, body and spirit — yet one person.
- Colossians 2:9 is read — in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily — and God's own soul is shown from Judges 10:16, where his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
- Jesus is the image of the invisible God: Colossians 1 is read, John 1:18 — no man has seen God at any time — and John 14:7: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
- Isaiah is read against any counsellor for God: 'Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him?' and 'I am the Lord that maketh all things, that stretcheth forth the heavens alone.'
- Ephesians 1:11 answers the chapter's question: we are predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will — God was talking to no one but himself.
- He closes with thanks — to his wife, beside him in church for the first time in a long time, and to Pastor Mark McCool and Sister Jamie, Pastor Nate and Sister Whitley, and Anthony and his family, who have worked around the clock — and dismisses the house in Jesus' name.

praise the lord everyone we greet you tonight in the wonderful name of the lord jesus christ the only name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved and may i start out tonight by saying this is unusual service tonight i first of all want to thank every one of you uh there's been so many text messages sent and i heard pastor mark mccool given admonition to the church about um uh not calling and so forth and it was not out of any uh aloofness but i'll give you a quick rundown of some things that happen but um last friday sister mccool had left to go to the bank and do business for the church when she got back i i was i was just deathly ill sick to my stomach and and i asked her to go with me to the restroom and i began throwing up what looked like coffee grounds and and i i couldn't stop it and um it got quite severe and by and by he called pastor mark and anthony and they came to the house and and they threatened me to the into my life that um they if i didn't call 9-1-1 they were going to and so they called 9-1-1 and we got over to a park west hospital sometimes later i don't know i'd lost track of time but pastor took me over there and there was about a hundred people waiting in the emergency and there were very few being called on and uh i became very ill again and pastor i tried to help give me a little protection and a little privacy holding up a curtain in front of me but i continued to throw up this dark black looking stuff and and um uh it looked like he's never gonna i'm never gonna see a doctor that night so but anyway in the midst of all that who showed up right in front of me was amanda burris and it was like an angel and she looked at me and she looked at the bag that i was holding and she said let me go see the doctor so she was on duty and she went back in and of course the doctor did all they could do and she showed the doctor the bag and the color they throw up and the doctor said that looks too much like blood so he he needs to see a doctor now and so uh through her intervening they got me on in and anyway how they started they put me on ivy and uh that made me as comfortable as i could with the the iv and uh the burning in the my pit of my stomach was just almost unbearable it was a terrible thing but anybody um anyway i did get ease way on in the night the next morning and um at any rate they they uh they got me stabilized and uh uh they had me set to have a scope and they did on on the next day or what i've lost track of the days but anyway they um they they put me to sleep did a scope and and they said i had a hiatal hernia and uh had uh uh two of the other ailments whatever they were and then on top of uh of all of that they they they did an excellent job of getting me me me stabilized and amanda kept checking on me and she she watched over me like an angel of mercy and i appreciate it so much and so i was released when yesterday and at any rate they did a scope and they i don't remember the the names of the different gasteritis and uh all the whatever it was but anyway um i appreciate so very much and then uh i i want to to to to pay special attention to the greatest church in all the world i cannot tell you i'm going to take some time tonight because tonight we probably will wind up our study on the book uh common questions concerning apostolic doctrine and but there's some other things i'm going to i'm going to take care of and the next thing i want to take care of is um where's my i need a guitar where's that who's who's the fella's got a guitar uh i'd like for pastor mark mccourt escort sister mccool to the platform and she's like she's totally unexpecting this and take her over there to the corner there and i i need to borrow that brother's guitar because um uh tomorrow 66 years ago tomorrow we will have been married uh well 66 years and uh honey sit down you didn't know i was going to do this but anyway i i i want you to know that this is the first time she's been able to be with me in in church and i don't know when it's been so unusual and let me see just a minute i don't know let me let me see here just a little bit i might i might use it i might not and well it was uh 66 years ago tomorrow is our anniversary all right all right take your time i told you that we're just gonna it's gonna be a different different time all right i've sung this to everybody from somebody on the street and i'll tell you this was in home depot and uh what yeah we was we were searching for uh our heart hardware our sink had been leaking for some times and and and so this was last night yes and um so the lady that was waiting on us helping us and bishops yes i need to interrupt you just a minute go right ahead pastor because everybody in the house is wondering what kind of dirty dog son you've got that would let you be up here and out here and at home depot one day after you've been released out of the hospital so let me give this explanation folks i did all i can do and you see who's still here okay that's all i need that's my testimony well pastor mark mccool pastor mccool has been by my side constantly if we stayed there i don't know how many hours we stayed in the uh the emergency room but he was right there with me every minute of the time and and then i didn't well i wanted to tell you this because it fits in um every way we have turned it is absolutely amazing to me uh i'm going to be teaching i'm going to be reviewing a little bit adorning the doctrine and in that segment during the doctrine i'll talk about our our doctrine may be good but if we don't adorn it correctly but this lady that i'd i'd asked helped me when back in the plumbing department and uh she was helping me and and she said uh there's a man that i believe may go to your church and i go to the same church you go to and i said who is that she said that he owns a funeral home his name is robert jones i said oh yes ma'am uh robert jones is a dear brother the church and i said he graduated from our school and what he she said and i went this was unsolicited she said he's one of the finest men i have ever met in my life said he he was in charge of the funeral of a nephew of mine or somebody anyway and she said that he spoke some of the some of the sweetest words i have ever heard and said he is a such a great man and and she said uh i said yes i've known him for many many years and she said now now who are you i said i'm billy mccool she said billy mccool billy mccool the and she squealed like elvis presley had walked in she left she she literally i hug you too and she she screamed loud and then she sister mccool was with me and pastor mark was with me and she said can i hug you and your wife yes ma'am you sure can and she hugged me and my wife and and and pastor mark and she said i've heard of you told how long she'd heard of me and but i just thought uh adorning the doctrine uh just supposed brother robert uh jones had somehow another given unkind words and let but there was unsolicited that that that that she wanted to testify and tell and then uh it was just someone real she gave us her name and she was such a such a help and and of course i got to witness to her again and she she knew where the church was and everything but if brother robert jones hadn't given the right impression it had been a different story and if i'd given a different lifestyle and that had been a different story honey before you sing to me yes we have been on a trip since friday it's hard to even think of all the things that we would like to share with the church of just how god works everything out for you there's nothing nothing that god can't do for amen amen from what brother mccool was talking about amanda burris from where he was in the emergency i had to leave the emergency and go back to the house because we left anthony with mac and for some reason mack was just they couldn't he couldn't quieten him down and we'd left him in a recliner and i guess maybe not putting him to bed was he was disturbed over that knowing that brother cool was sick he had he knew enough to know that there was something wrong well i left and came home left by the mark with brother mccool in the emergency and brother mark came with me and he and brother anthony managed to get mac in bed where we brother cool and i have been putting him in a a sweat a sling and a lift to put him in bed and i thought they would be strong enough to just get under his arms and lift him up and put him in which they did they struggled to do it but they got him in bed and with that being said uh the next morning i stayed there at the house and i insisted on anthony going on to his house i said i'll call you if i need you and i said let me just stay here and i think mack will quieten down and with that he did not so early the next morning anthony called and came on over and matt got so bad that we we called 9-1-1 for him and rushed him to the hospital wanting to take him to wherever them cool was to be in the same hospital but we didn't know but what mac was having another stroke and when we said stroke they insisted on taking him to fort sanders so with that here was anthony and myself saturday morning going into the emergency with mac and here i couldn't be with brother mccool but you know god works everything for our benefit who would have known that sister amy loop was going to be working at fort sanders on monday and she was there to minister and see after mack there's just another there was amanda and then amy was there to give us advice what to do about mac and honey from there okay i'll say this let me say this of course they they took mac to to the emergency and uh he got attention there and the the doctor they recommended an appropriate facility for for mac but i'm going to call these names ashton watson amanda burris amy luke these i mean every every way we've turned we can't turn around that there's somebody that knows us from the church yes and i cannot you know i can't pastor pastor you you've got the greatest pastor in the world right now i want you to know that he's not and the greatest pastor pastor's wife they were they were they were with me i'm by my side and and and let me say this amanda stayed by or checked on me all night long as i was there they were putting different uh whatever medicines they they said i needed for my stomach and something to they they assumed that looking at the amanda is the one that took the evidence to the doctor that would i don't know when i ever got to see him and when the doctor saw that and the doctor said that this man needs to he needs a doctor now and so amanda got us right on in and then there's ashley burris she's been there and rhonda henson's been there for our babies when they were born so it's just amazing amazing what god does during these times now the doctor recommended an appropriate facility so it took us all day today filling out papers and answering questions and and i want to tell you that this world is at a standstill uh people who will work are overworked and amanda said and one of one there were seven or eight nurses walked off of the job because they couldn't stand the situation and they're they're operating uh with such a skeleton crew trying to those who are working doing their very best but i want you to know she she she checked on me all night long and the last thing before she left she came in and spent but by that time with all the different uh drugs that they'd put in the the intravenous uh it had relieved my my miserable pain terrible and so i got in comfort well they uh the doctor after they examined max and then determined that he had not had another stroke but he totally he lost total use of his legs he's totally paralyzed on his right side and uh he he we can even i had a hydraulic lift we bought a hydraulic lifter put a sling under him raised him up and set him in a wheelchair and then at night well we just it got to be totally impossible for sister mccool myself to do what we and we wanted to do what we could but anyway the doctor recommended him to go to a an appropriate facility and so we went to the appropriate facility and many many papers to fill out and many many things and and then when the the representatives from the agency that's watching over him now 24 hours a day a gentleman came in and he looked at me and i i know he kept looking at me and and i said he said i i know i know you i i said you do yeah he said my name is eric kincaid eric kincaid i'm a brother-in-law a will farmer and and so here we're going again i cannot uh begin it it's unreal what god has done and then here it is on the eve of our uh uh anniversary and of course i got to sing my song to the lady in uh uh home depot and she didn't care who was listening but oh she wanted to hear every word of that song she wanted to hear it and then and i sang it there of course i have sung at the doctors and and i i was in hobby lobby and getting just picture frames and a fella said something about me brought it to my attention and i started to sing he said wait wait wait wait just been i want to record this and take it home to my wife but anyway she uh she uh i didn't have the money to buy her fur coat or a ferrari and and i didn't have the money to to to buy much of anything but i wrote her a song most of you have heard it and i'm going to impose it upon you again and i want to look out over this audience and i want to tell pastor mark mccool and [Music] sister jamie and and of course ashley and nate and anthony uh nobody can stand by their their their their father like they have and i appreciate it so much but when when she turned to 80 i i wrote this song and then i've had to revise it because i i originally wrote it and i said she's a beautiful lady she's a beautiful lady she's in her 80s but she still seems like 20 to me words can't describe her there's no other lacker what a lovely lady is she god surely loved me when he gave her to me forever thankful i'll be [Music] grace charm and beauty fails to describe her but i'll be thankful through eternity she's the love of my life she's the perfect preacher's wife she loves everyone she meets [Music] she takes time for all for both great and small and that makes her special you see she's sweet warm and kind she's that way all the time she's an angel sent down from above [Music] she's my companion she's my prayer partner but best of all she's my love she's a beautiful lady she's in her 80s but she's still seems like 20 to me her hands may be wrinkled but in her eyes there's a twinkle and a smile that still excites me she's my lifelong lover she's a godly grandmother she's modest she's humble yet bold [Music] her charm is ageless none can dispute it because angels never grow old i love you baby i love you more than i've ever loved you what a woman what i want i love you now i i wouldn't care i wouldn't care if he stayed up here and sit with me for the rest of the time but would you give the let this lovely lady let me get that okay there you go thank you thank you thank you all right now we've got a little little segment here that um i call this uh i call this a little segment tidbits from back in time tidbits from back in time and i i just grabbed up one of the old voice of pentecost and pastor and profile wrote this march the 2nd 1978 john 13 35 jesus wept the fact that jesus wept at the tomb of his friend lazarus indicates that he can be touched by our grief the very side of this family's sorrowing over a deceased loved one brought tears to the eyes of the savior his tears were not tears of hopelessness but tears of concern for mary and martha even though christ knew that he was going to raise his friend from the dead he still shared in the sorrow can we be so touched by those around us optimism is desirable is a desirable quality but tears of concern for others sparkle like diamonds at midnight we're told in the word of god in hebrews 4 15. for we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities if our great god is touched by our trouble we should also be sensitive to others problems sometimes the word of kindness sincerely spoken can be the healing ointment for a broken heart in a world of computers and impersonal numbers we risk the danger of failing to realize that people still suffer when injured and weak when grieved bear ye one another's burdens as a valuable adv is valuable advice we are further instructed to weep with those that weep and rejoice with those that rejoice may god grant that the milk of kindness flow freely especially from those who have been born again do you agree oak ridge march 16 17 18 are the dates for a youth crusade in oak ridge tennessee at the united pentecostal church brother mccool will be the crusade evangelist the youth action singers will be joining brother mccool saturday march the 18th all service began at 7 30. aka acs news our roles continue to grow in aka and then it tells how many we we welcomed uh baptized brother john rose everybody don't remember brother john rose he passed some time ago but brother john rose was baptized in the name of jesus sunday february the 26th it's coming the long play record album the youth action singers recorded is in the final stages of completion watch for the voice of pentecost for further details i appreciate the flowers calls visits and fruit baskets that the other other tokens of concern shown during my hospital stay most of all i thank you for your prayers brother sam dozier our sick sister carol harvey is a patient at saint mary's medical center brother sam dozier is recuperating at home following surgery this last week we were glad to have these visitors in our mid-winter spring revival brother ron honeycutt brother frank honeycutt of bakersfield north carolina if i'm not mistaken brother uh hunnicutt is now the pastor of the church at little or quick isn't he honey brother hunnicutt i think that i think that is right um but that's uh just a few things that we i didn't finish my article a smile a handshake a friendly word may give someone that extra courage to try a little harder and make it a make it eternity alone will reveal and god himself will reward those who have been his helpers in spreading the sunshine well so much for tidbits from the times past uh we're going back we have been teaching from the the little book here common questions concerning apostolic doctrine and we probably will be re reordering these books soon because we've got our orders from here and there yonder but this will probably be the last segment and i want to i want to make mention the important thing is to understand the the apostolic doctrine of what it takes to be saved and the the most important thing in your life in my life is to know how to be saved and this book starts out by by asking that question uh of what well let me just look at that right quick and and give you just a word um the preface of this book said bible truths are beautiful and should be presented and a christ-like manner while christ and his apostles are on you were unyielding in their doctrine they were compassionate in their attitude we are thus instructed in ephesians 4 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace and in verse 13 till we all come in the unity of the faith anything as lovely as apostolic doctrine should not be marred by an unchristian attitude this writer does not pretend to have all the answers on this immense subject nor is it his intention to speak unkindly of those who disagree my doctrine is not may doctrine not be made my doctrine not become a sword with which we wound but let it be a cohesive commodity of christianity which provokes us to study quote till we all come in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the son of god into a perfect man unto the measure of the stature of fullness uh of christ so this is this is what we're talking about and and in in this entire study it's been several weeks and uh i wanted to understood that um way beyond some of the particular individual points that we believe in doctrine and some are essential to salvation some may not be and but it is so important and what what was what was uh so convincing to me this week it's when a lady that totally did not know who i was i was dressed casually in in in home depot and getting some uh plumbing stuff and and she brought it up herself somehow another i didn't know she knew who robert jones was but unsolicited she could not keep enough praise and what i'm saying wouldn't it have been sad if if uh brother jones had somehow displayed a bad attitude and she said well i know a fellow such and such and such but and then then it it it bled over to myself she had heard a man through the years so i through all of this i am trying to stress we as apostolics of all things we've got to adorn the doctrine with the right attitude and um pastor mark has i've said this a lot he he is uh he he's taught me a lot of things and he handles people in the everyday life in such a kind way answering them and i thought oh dear god help me to be able to always answer like that but to give you a background uh what is meant by apostolic doctrine apostolic doctrine means like the apostle thus our doctrine our church teaching is to the best of our understanding the same is taught by the apostles what are the basic beliefs the basic beliefs we believe the bible to be the inspired word of god we believe the scriptural account of creation that adam and eve first man and woman sinned and were driven from the garden of eden with the curse of death upon them since god desired fellowship and love from the man he had created he set forth in motion and planned for this hideous redemption this plan through the dispensation of law types and shadows eventuated in the dispensation of grace and coming to earth of jesus christ who was god incarnate first timothy 3 16 and without controversy great is the mystery of godliness god was manifested in the flesh justified in the spirit scene of angels preaching to the gentiles believed unto the world received up in the glory what question what do you have to do to be saved now i know we've gone over this many times but let me hit it again because this uh the question is i in my book the very title says common questions and and they're common but they need to be answered what do we have to do to be saved the same question was asked in the book of acts chapter 2 verse 37 37-38 men and brethren what shall we do then peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost what is repentance to regret past sins to change one's actions because of regretted past acts when one feels sorry for sinning against god and asks for his forgiveness with the intentions of changing this is repentance water baptism must not be baptized acts 10 48 and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the lord so i i could get started into that and go back over and over again so but i'm going to go back to the to the last chapter and the last two segments of of my book uh has these two headings adorning the doctrine for that i've i've already given a lot of comments and and and i'm not heaping praise upon me brother jones or anybody else but there's every one of you got your own testimony that that you've blessed somebody and it should give us encouragement to always be uh alert adorning the doctrine titus 210 not pearling that's cheating uh doing something uh dishonest folks will remember you when you do something dishonest prolonging uh taking something uh illegally uh that's that's that's a bad thing uh pastor so one time about some club he put a coin in a candy machine or something and i mean everything started dropping out and the first thing he did is uh boy he put another one in see him anymore he could get well pastor put uh money in and it started dropping out and pastor went to the proprietor and took the said sir your machine is messed up i put a quarter in and i got all this and i only deserved one and and the man was so impressed that someone would would do that not per learning the power of beautiful lives aged men and women young women mothers young men and slaves were exhorted to be so faithful to the natural obligations of their own stations in life that critics of their religion would be silenced slaves of whom there were many in early church were exhorted to be so obedient diligent and faithful that their lives would adorn their religious profession thus their healing masters would be constrained to think that if that's what christianity christian religion does for slaves it must be something to it while we love and preach the apostolic doctrine with great enthusiasm godly living must accompany such preaching it has been said that our lives speak so loudly our words cannot be heard just as a person adorns a nice suit of clothes with a proper tie shirt and shoes so must a christian adorn their doctrine with a sweet gentle and pleasant attitude it seems that some wear their clothes so neatly and carry themselves so gracefully they always look nice and well dressed the same is true with our church doctrine if we practice christian grace and poise we shall beautifully adorn the doctrine so i i if there if there's anything um that i i'm stressing uh equal to our doctrine and that is our christian behavior and and attitude now the last chapter uh who was god talking to when he said let us make man answer genesis 1 26 god said let us make man in our image before we go any further in case there is any doubt as to whether plural terms were used in reference to god read genesis 1 1 the hebrew says in the beginning elohim created the heavens and the earth elohim was a plural word then in genesis 3 2 and the lord said behold the man has become as one of us genesis 11 7 god said go to let us go down confound their language so we find that us we find us our elohim and one of us referring you is referring to god i would like at this point and this is not in my book i've had the other book i'm going to quote from for years but i'd like to quote i would like to quote from gordon mcgee's book page 27 he wrote a book entitled is jesus in the godhead or is the godhead in jesus and this is the way he deals with the the word evil hymn elohim is translated god in our bible it indicates a plurality of attributes and not persons baal judges 6 31 bills above second kings 1 2 are called elohim but they were not trinities great bible teachers such as calvin have ridiculed the notion that this word affords any support for our belief in three divine persons elohim is applied to christ thus proving that it does not mean the plurality of persons a few examples will suffice elohim was sold for 30 pieces of silver zechariah 11 4. elohim was pierced at calvary uh elohim is coming back as king do we think that there are three persons were that three persons were betrayed crucified and coming again of course not the very use of the word elohim in scripture proves that by it the lord jesus christ who has all the attributes of full orbed deity unquote now let us consult i'm i'm not quoting uh gordon mcgee at this point i'm i'm giving my own research now let us consult plubits p-e-l-o-u-b-e-t-s pelubitz bible dictionary page 224 the plural form of elohim has given rise to much discussion the fanciful idea that it referred to the trinity of persons in the godhead hardly finds now a supporter among the scholars it is either what grammarians call the plural of majesty or it denotes the fullness of divine strength the sum of the power displayed by god if god made man in his image as genesis 1 27 states then to understand the godhead let us look at the man he made romans 1 26 for the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made even his eternal power and godhead god made man a true trinity that is three in one soul body and spirit but he did not give each man three bodies neither has god three bodies colossians 2 9 for in him dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily if there's any doubt whether god has a soul read judges 10 16 and they judges 10 16 and they put away the strange gods from among them and served the lord and his soul was grieved for the misery of israel god like man consists of soul body and spirit but not three separate and distinct persons when one looks at a man he sees only one person his soul and spirit are invisible the fullness of the godhead bodily dwells in jesus colossians 1 14 15 quote in whom we have redemption through his blood even the forgiveness of sins who is the image of the invisible god saint john 1 18 no man has seen god at any time yet in saint john 14 7 jesus said if you had known me ye should have known my father also and from henceforth ye know him and have seen him do these two scriptures conflict no not in the least jesus was the image of the invisible god as a matter of fact hebrews 1 3 calls jesus the express image of his person let me deviate just a little bit i saw a car a jeep parked in a walmart parking lot i got my attention and the spare tire on the back of that jeep had in bold letters it said jesus is god's selfie i thought i i say that that's pretty good jesus is god's selfie you only you want to see god here he is just as one can look at a man and not see his soul they could look at jesus and not see the innermost being of god and yet he be looked at yet be looking at the express image of god's person jesus was god manifest in the flesh first timothy 3 16 and without controversy great is the mystery of godliness that's what that is saying is without any argument no argument to it there is a great mystery and for anybody to boldly boast that you know they know all the answers as being a a a little bit uh forward i would be careful because it says and without controversy great is the mystery it's a great mystery and we should approach it in that manner and not uh we shouldn't act like i know it all without controversy great is the mystery of godliness god was manifest in the flesh god now listen to this god was manifest in the flesh he was justified in the spirit seen of angels preached unto the gentiles believed on in the world received up into glory if one says god was counseling with the second person in the holy trinity this puts that person in an unfavorable scriptural light isaiah 40 13 says preposterously who hath directed the spirit of the lord or being his counselor hath taught him isaiah makes it crystal clear that to hint that god counsel with anyone is absurd for the 44th chapter of his book verse 24 states i am the lord that maketh all things that stretcheth forth the heavens alone that spread abroad the earth by my self can there be any doubt as to what he's saying now let us allow the bible to answer this question to whom was god talking when he said let us make man ephesians 1 11. now now notice the question to whom was god speaking when he said let us make man let's let the word of god answer this ephesians 1 11 and whom we have obtained an inheritance being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will so there's there's no question as to who god was talking to he said he spread to the world the earth by himself let me read that again who hath directed the spirit of the lord or being his counselor i taught him isaiah makes it crystal clear that the hint that god counseled with anyone is absurd for the 44th chapter of isaiah verse 24 states quote i am the lord that maketh all things that stretcheth forth the heavens alone that spreadeth the earth abroad that spreadeth abroad the earth by my self so in whom we have redemption through israel and in whom we have obtained an inheritance being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the council of his own will and uh as i bring this lesson to close tonight i want to say once again how much i thank
