Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Consider what the Lord has already done
- The disciples had themselves distributed the loaves among five thousand men and gathered up twelve baskets of fragments, yet caught in the storm on the sea they supposed Jesus a spirit and cried out in fear.
- Jesus knew all the time that there would be a storm when he sent them across alone: sometimes the Lord sends us into a situation to prove himself to us.
- The lesson's thought is in the text itself: 'for they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened' — when you get in a bad spot, consider what the Lord has already done.
- He read from his own history of the church's beginning: a winter with no food in the house and no money, and a box with a week's worth of groceries set on the porch; a merchant marine who laid five hundred-dollar bills in his hand toward buying property to build a church.
Scriptures: Mark 6:44-52
David, the hallowed bread, and the sword behind the ephod
- Jealousy wrecked Saul: the women sang that Saul had slain his thousands and David his ten thousands, and David ran for his life for seven years — for your consideration, do not let jealousy wreck your life, your job, or your marriage.
- Fleeing and hungry, David came to the priest and was given the hallowed bread that only the priests could lawfully eat: God sometimes uses unusual and extraordinary means to deal with extraordinary problems.
- Be careful how you judge somebody else and how they are walking with God: 'judge not' — it is not the preacher's job to preach anybody into hell or into heaven.
- The father of the prodigal laid down no rules when his son came home; he ran and fell on his neck and kissed him — the one thing the father could do was keep a home for him to come home to, and the church must keep the same home for those who come back.
- Behind the ephod in the house of God hung the sword of Goliath, the Philistine David slew in the valley of Elah — 'there is none like that: give it me' — and special miracle events are to be kept protected in the sacred place of our memory.
Joseph learned to forget, and to forgive
- Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh — God has made me forget — and his second Ephraim — God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction: let God erase the bitterness and put a forgiving spirit in you.
- After their father was dead, Joseph's brethren feared that he would requite them all the evil they had done to him, and sent messengers asking him to forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of their father.
- Joseph wept when they spoke to him, and answered: 'Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive' — and he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
- Peter asked how often he should forgive his brother — until seven times? — and Jesus answered, seventy times seven; and when we ask God the second time to forgive the same thing, he asks, 'For what?' He remembers our sins against us no more.
Scriptures: Genesis 50:15-21
Remember how he spake unto you
- Joseph, a counsellor and a good man and just who also waited for the kingdom of God, went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus, took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
- The women who came with him from Galilee followed after, beheld the sepulchre and how his body was laid, and returned and prepared spices and ointments and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
- On the first day of the week they found the stone rolled away and the body gone, and the two men in shining garments said: 'Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee.'
- They remembered his words and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest — yet their words seemed to the apostles as idle tales, and they believed them not: they had not considered what he had already told them.
- He closed with God's arithmetic in bricks: fifty-five thousand bricks bought for twenty-five cents apiece bricked the whole building, the stone over the doors reads 'holiness unto the Lord,' and when the last brick was laid there were exactly thirty-eight left over — which then sold for a thousand dollars apiece into the building program.

rally and bus that sounds uh familiar we used to do well we've done it a long time and we're here in the bible class just for my own for my own curiosity how many in the bible class will be here to ride the bus friday night at uh 6 30. raise your hand well we've got three i don't believe we want three on that 50-some-odd passenger one two three four all right let's see anybody else all right raise your hands and leave them raised please thank you one two three four five and you're six so we're going to add that to the count that we're getting from the other classes and we'll see what we have all right that's the new bus we're going to be uh taking if there's enough to ride it and um we always have a great great time we started many many years ago with old uh school buses that sometimes would break down and uh we would they we didn't have mcdonald's and stuff like that back then we everybody took their own box supper and we'd eat on the bus and when i get home my driveway was slanted and i'd uh i'd take a broom and sweep everything out take a garden hose and wash it down and we we started borrowing a bus from bob loy he was so kind and but we made a mini a trip between here and kingsport uh on the bus here in johnson city here in uh newland uh here and uh as far as far away as uh uh buffing virginia and uh but anyway uh we want to see a great time this next uh this friday night well would you like to hear a little bit more history i've been giving you a little bit 50 years of memory would you like to hear a little bit of that all right i believe i i i read hoopla or holiness and i'll give you just a little quick review here one chapter of the the history says there's a couple of young ladies sisters dressed in western attire appeared on the caswalker show there bedella dolly and stella parton little did we know we were appearing with such future mega music legends as dolly parton her appearance on this show catapulted her to fame and fortune on the grand old offering stage screen an amusement park mogul our appearance on this show gave us enough exposure to fill a gospel tent was sold who needed salvation the gospel tent filled with people eager to hear entertainment music and singing that we did but along with hearing our music knoxville was hearing the apostolic message of repentance water baptism in jesus name and the unfilling of the holy ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues fame and fortune was not what we were here seeking for dolly and others it was on to the grand ole opry but for us it was on to the grand old gospel after the hoop law came the preaching of holiness now there is where no there is a noticeable difference in numbers of people who love hoopla are holiness a couple of years earlier the mccool twins were doing two daily commercials uh uh commercial gospel singing programs on radio station wkin kingsport you're understanding hitting highlights just high points of the some i've already read one day while tuning up for our program the announcer came in and volunteered some advice he said boys i enjoy your music very much but i hate to tell you this but you're wasting your time singing gospel music there's a fellow down at memphis by the name of elvis presley that is rocking the music world with a new kind of music if you guys would sing that type of music i think you could make it big at this point we got the opportunity to tell the announcer about our lord and our master and our music making it big in the music world was not our ambition singing god's praise preaching the gospel and leading the loss to the lord was our ultimate goal more than 50 years in the ministry that goal has not changed in the late fall of 57 when the weather became too cold to have service under the tent regular services were held in a large hall above a grocery store on washington avenue we rented a little four-room house in south knoxville 1116 valley for 45 dollars a month sister mccool took the red broad cloth that we had stretched a wire around the platform in the tent for a modesty curtain and made kitchen curtains for our little house the kitchen was the only room in the house that had curtains we had to turn off the lights to go to bed god has ways to keep us warm when the weather turned cold we bought it cold by the bag for 50 cents because we did not have enough money to buy a ton of coal there came a time when we did not have 50 cents and we broke up an old wooden chair frame to burn it in the heating stove we became quite imaginative at finding fuel for the old war morning stove elijah had ravens we had robert and geneva brother j.d peters and the apostolic church of kingsport donated a large school bus to us to bring people to church one day sister mccool i went out driving the old school bus inviting people to church when we left there was no food in the house and no money to buy food when we returned from our sunday school visitation there was a cardboard box setting on our porch with a week's worth of groceries god had moved on the hearts of brother robert and sister geneva perry to bring food to us in our wilderness experience those were trying times but they were terrific times here's a new chapter i believe god sent a merchant marine about this time as we were struggling to make it through the first winter a knock came on the door and there's still a man by the name of willard maloney a merchant marine he said god sent him to our house and told him to donate a thousand dollars for the purchase of property to build a church he had five one hundred dollar bills and laid in my hands and said he would be out to see for about three months and when he returned he would have another 500 to us this was a miracle of confirmation of our purpose for being in knoxville indeed he did return and gave the balance of the amount that god had told him to give in the meantime a dear sister by the name of sharp called and said there was a piece of property on west columbia avenue just off of north central for sale we checked it out and sure enough this was the place where first apostolic was to have its first building in the spring of 1958 the tent was put up on the newly acquired property at 120 through west columbia avenue as the revival continued on the back side of the lot a 35-70 foot building was being constructed on the same lot by winter four walls and a flat roof where the dirt floor became the home of first apostolic church at first there was no indoor plumbing or permanent wiring the temporary lights and seats from the tent revival were used dirt floors light bulbs dangling from pigtail wiring a pot-bellied stove with a stove pipe stuck through a crude hole in the concrete block wall this was not a pretty sight but it was the beginning of first apostolic church well we'll continue that little story a little next time and you you've heard a lot of these stories from in bits and pieces and you'll probably catch on to this one pretty quick the bishop and the bucket we'll be telling you about that next time the bishop and the bucket we're going to continue our bible study we started on july the 6th of this year we've had so many wonderful things happening camp meeting and special services and uh different things we have had to skip over this and that but we're still in the sub in the subject of the title of this bible study is for your consideration for your consideration matthew 6 44 i'm going to review just a little bit and then we'll get into new material mark 6 44 through 52 and they that did eat of the loaves were about 5 000 men remember the above words five thousand and two uh and two fishes and twelve baskets left over and straightaway can he constrain the disciples to get into a ship and go to the other side before until bethsaida while he sent away the people and when he had sent them away he departed into a mountain to pray and when he was come the ship was in the midst of the seat and he alone on the lamb and he saw them toiling and rowing for the wind was contrary unto them and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them walking upon the sea and would have passed by them now we're reviewing this a little bit i want to to jog your memory and some of you were not here when we started this bible study the disciples had witnessed jesus feeding 5 000 people with five barley loaves and two little fish and when they got done uh eating uh they gathered up 12 baskets full of fragments well after that jesus constrained the disciples to get into a ship and go to the other side of the the huge body of water and he went up in the mountains to pray well it was the about three o'clock in the morning and there was a vicious storm set in and the disciples were very frightened because they were about to be be sunk in the ship and my point was jesus knew all the time there was going to be a storm jesus knew all the time when he sent them out alone that he would not be with them jesus would be alone in the mountains praying sometimes we don't realize this but the lord manipulates us into a situation to prove himself to us he knows there's going to be trials in your path he knows there's going to be storms in your path and and he sometimes sends you right into that storm but the bible said but when they saw him walking upon the sea they supposed it had been a spirit and cried out now they saw him walking on the water and they supposed that it was a spirit and they out of fight cried out for they all saw him and were troubled and immediately he talked with them and said unto them be of good cheer it is i be not afraid and he went up unto them into the ship and the wind ceased and they were sore amazed in themselves because beyond measure and wondered and this next verse is where i get my thought for the lesson for they considered not the miracle of the loaves for their heart was hardened they had experienced uh a major miracle i guess you couldn't say anything less than a any miracle as a major and they they they actually distributed the food among 5 000 people and they knew they started with five barley loaves and two little fish and they the food multiplied in their hands and when they got through they gathered up 12 baskets full of fragments now having seen this you would think that they would would be filled with such faith that that they would believe him for anything but they didn't they were so frightened they were out of their minds with fear and jesus the bible said for they considered not the loaves and their heart was hardened my point to us myself included when you when you get in a bad spot consider what the lord has already done i read some things in this book here uh about what god did when we were starting the church in 1957 uh we talked about the box of food left on our porch we talked about the merchant marine that came in and laid five 100 bills in my hand and uh how we started and all we've got to do is reach back in our memory bank and pull up some of these things that we've seen god do i last wednesday night i got started and telling about experiences and i i kind of got got carried away uh because even this building right here is no less miraculous i told you about the the future sitting on uh the i mean the saturday night before the service before our first service was announced here on sunday morning the the big trucks from arkansas was pulled up and they were putting the pews together and god had miraculously provided the money when i was like the disciples i i didn't know what to do but the lord knew what to do the lord sent brother blevit to a a recipe or a remedy the way to raise the money and and it came in and when they unloaded the pews and set them up we had every dime of the money so what i'm saying is now i've got a paragraph i'm going to read here in a little bit that that i want you to take notice of that we're not living in the past we're looking to the future and the present but we must remember what god has done for us down through the years and know full well he's going to continue now let us consider some things my my thought is for your consideration let us consider some things in an immediate crisis how quickly we forget how he delivered us out of the last one and then we told you the story of david was fleeing from saul now david ran from saul for seven years for seven years he ran for his life and and uh saul did everything he could he wanted to kill him out of nothing but jealousy because he heard the women singing saul was slain his thousands and david his ten thousands and he said they've ascribed to me a thousand and to david ten thousand and maybe a thousand and he could not take that for your consideration what jealousy can do to you be taken for your consideration don't allow jealousy to wreck your life it'll wreck your job it'll get you fired it'll wreck your marriage it'll wreck your business don't do the bible says jealousy as cool as the grave and don't let that happen to you and we dealt with that about how david went to the house of the lord and he was running for his life and he wound up in the house of god and and talking to the the high priest now therefore what is under thy hand he said to the high priest give me five loaves of bread in my hand or whatever you got there well i said all i've got a shoe bread it's illegal for anybody but the high priest to eat this shoe bread but sometimes now watch this and this is a personal theory and i don't have uh corroborating scripture but i think the scripture says it once it's enough but there are times that god uses unusual and extraordinary means to deal with extraordinary problems remember that now they normally you wouldn't allow these uh non-priests to eat this shoe bread but under those particular circumstance and let me give you something else to consider for consideration be careful how you judge somebody else and and how they are walking with god and how they're living for god if you're not careful you'll judge somebody wrong you don't know you don't know their mentality and their relationship with with god and i i have used a far out and extreme uh illustration i've said uh i believe this apostolic message from the top of my head to the tip of my toes and that's what i preach i've preached it for 73 years but i said if i get to heaven now because i have a lot of people saying do you believe you got to do this you got to be you believe if you do this you're going to be safe if you do this you are you're going to go to hell well first of all if you have questions about it don't do it that person most of the time you already know the answer and you're seeking for somebody to confirm to make you feel good but i said if i get to heaven and adolf hitler's sitting there i'm not going to put in for a transfer i don't i'm not i'm not his judge or anybody else's and don't ask me if i think so-and-so is going to be saved and so-and-so is going to be saved him and it's not my job to get up here and and preach you in hell as far as that's concerned preach you in heaven that that's he said judge not at all judge not it's not my business to judge but what i'm saying now for your consideration david's relationship with the high priest was an extraordinary relationship he was in dire need of food and god gave him food and a most unusual way and david answered the priesthood said to him of truth he said i i i came out the vessels of the young men are holy and the bread is in a minor common yay though it was sanctified this day in the vessel so the priest gave him hallowed bread for there was no bread there but the shoe bread that was taken from that was taken from before the lord to put hot bread in the day when it was taken so how do i say this when they when the prodigal's father saw him coming uh he didn't run to meet him said now son just a minute before you get any further you're going to have to do this and you're going to have to line up and you're going to have say you're going to have to meet this and meet this this and this he didn't do that when i've surmised and i have uh theorized that you know he said to the servant go get the robe and put on get the shoes and and kill the fatted calf he didn't start laying down a bunch of difficult rules but the bible said he ran and fell upon his neck just collapsed upon his neck and kissed him now we know the rest of the story that the older brother was pouting in the field because the younger brother was getting such a good treatment and he'd lived a very reckless life but we've got a lesson to learn for our consideration let god do his his thing and when somebody comes to the lord let's thank god for it i'm not here to judge i'm not i'm just if if they shout their way all the way in the back door they've been drunk the night before that's that that's them and god i'm going to shout and say praise god for it hallelujah i'm going to be right right beside the father i'm not going to start laying down a bunch of rules you got to do this you got to prove yourself got to prove proof of proof well he just fell upon his neck and kissed him and started barking out orders and i have given a little imaginary uh parable myself that while that boy was gone word would come in that he was out there wasting his substance with righteous living he was running with uh bad women and having quite a time in the world and somebody told the uh the one of the servants said you hear what your your your son's done well don't worry about you go shine those shoes for me uh go shoe the moths out of the closet that i don't want them all to get in i'm going we're going to use that that that robe one of these days we're going to use those shoes one of these go feed the calf that's instead of criticizing uh your your your brother or criticizing your your friend go feed the cat the cat needs to feed me we need a fatter cat because i believe he's coming home now the father could not make him come home because first of all he wasn't in his right mind because the bible said when he came to himself so he wasn't at himself so you got to understand that he was in a in a frame of mind that he really wasn't himself and and the father couldn't make him come home but there's one thing the father could do he could keep a home for him to come home to now he could have sold that home and and turned it into a kmart parking lot or walmart parking lot he could have got rid of it he could have and it wouldn't wouldn't be nothing there but a a place of business when the boy got home but the same home he left was the same home that was waiting on him when he got back when folks leave and and the devil tricks everybody that's why the lord told about the 100 sheep and then the 99 the one that go to the strike and the lost coin and so forth but the one thing we don't criticize but let's just keep a home for them let them see when they it's going to be the same apostolic church we're going to be preaching the same gospel it's going we're going to have a home for them to come home too they're not going to come home and find a church that looks like the world they're not going to find the church that's trying to keep up with the fashion they're going they're going to find a church that still loves one another and loves lost souls and and they're going to welcome the the center and the backslider because that's our job so the 99 was left by and he found the one and the bible said it when he found that one he put it on his shoulder and brought and brought home and he started calling neighbors around look what i found i got got my lost sheep when the the woman lost the coin and she swept the house lit a candle look under the middle there and when she found that she called the neighbor come look at look i've i found what i lost what an attitude what an attitude for your consideration for our consideration our our attitude should be not judgmental but loving and merciful well let me go on let me go on well then uh then david uh after he got something to eat david said to amalek uh is there not under thy hand a spear or a sword i don't have a shoulder spirit i left in a hurry and i don't even have a weapon have you got a weapon can he ask about a weapon in the house of god and the priest said and i like this you listen closely the priest said the sword of goliath the philistine whom thou slewest and the valley of elah behold it is here wrapped in the cloth behind the ephod if thou will take it take it for there is no other saved that here and david said there is none like that give it me now i've got a bible lesson i'm going to be teaching some of these days if i ever get done with this one but when when david slung that stone he went down and the giant went down david went and pulled that giant sword out of his uh scabbard and cut his head off and the bible said that david took the head of that giant and took it to jerusalem he wagged it up to first of all he showed it to saul and he took the head of that giant to jerusalem now i'm getting into my future bible study now but the bible said he put his armor in his tent there are some things that you and i need to put in our tent there's some things we need to put in our tent jealousy is not one of them uh contrariness is not one of them criticism is not one of them but these his armor uh just as coat of male weighed 200 pounds it was a huge but he put it in his tent and i'll tell you what about his tent later on but when uh i have a leg said i've got goliath sword he said there's none like it give it to me and he took that sword and i want to tell you something and this is a note i put in here it was behind the ephod that was the vest that the high priest wore that had 12 valuable beautiful stones set in it was in two pieces buckled at the shoulder and one piece went down the back and it represented the 12 tribes of israel and it was a very special wholly dedicated garment for the high priest to wear and so it certainly hung in a very important place in the house of god of the house of god at that time was a tabernacle you understand it was attended it wasn't a fine building it was a tent and it was a tabernacle and there it hang in a special place and behind that ephod was goliath's sword and my note on that said the ephod was a special garment worn by the high priest may i say we don't live in the past but we must keep special events and miracle events protected softly in the sacred place in our memory and our memory bank of things most precious come back uh i'm not dismissing right now but uh you'll hear about this a little later because there's a whole lot here that uh i'll i'll tell you about of course that reminds me of the little story that bishop payne dear friend of mine used to tell the little boy was taking an orange to his teacher and on the way to the school he got squeezed in that orange and he got to get get softer and and finally he stuck his back and punched a hole in that orange like well i would i'll take just a little sip and he took a little sip and he kept on and by the time he got to school he had sipped a whole lot but he still want to give it to the teacher and he told the teacher said teacher here's an orange i brought to you said it's been squashed a little bit said there's still a lot of good in this so i'll tell you about that sword and that armor and it's been squashed a whole lot but there's still a whole lot in it now then i i'm still i'm still going back over and and reviewing but my addendum to the bible study told the story of joseph uh when his firstborn was was born he named him manasseh and that meant god's made me forget and and the second was ephraim which said god's made me fruitful in in the land which i mean and my point about that is uh joseph's heart was right and when he saw that first little baby oh i just i just love to get these uh little videos from kelly with old calloway it just it just tickles me pink as the old saying but you look down in that baby's face he don't have anything against anybody why all he wants is something to eat and dry clothes and a place to sleep and he's got to where now she can make him laugh and he'll laugh and and he's not mad at anybody when when joseph looked down on the face of manasseh he he said god i want to be like that baby i don't want to hold a grudge against my brothers i don't want to graduate anybody if i'm going to be successful i've got to be like this baby and and let god cause me to forget god would you help my forgetter to work extra special in some cases and let me forget all the evil that's been done to me and let me thank god for the good get along the hand clap and the second when he called ephraim for god caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction if i'll allow god to erase all bitterness from my mind i can't go through life not you could if the old enemy can plant something in your mind to cause you to to be hurt or or have a grievance and you have a right you may have every every right in the world to to to be heard um but the old enemy wants to want to torment you with that if he can keep he can keep me tormented with what somebody did to me you know i've got a but i've got to be like joseph and say thank you god you've made me forget all of my toys and my father's house and my brothers has done me wrong and and that was such a relief off of him it was it was better for him and then the second one he said i'm going to be fruitful in the land of my affliction well here we go uh here's uh let me let me get on uh eventually dave david's brother or joseph's brothers came seeking food and he gave him food and i'm not going to go through all that you know the the story of what he put them through and finally he revealed himself to them and when he did it frightened them they fell down and began to to weep and they began to apologize because they knew they were standing before a man that had the the power of life and death and and and and joseph said he said get upset i'm not in the place of god said you meant it evil but god meant it good and don't let me read you what happened after after his father died uh there he brought jacob down there with all the family and after jacob had died and when joseph's brother saw that their father was dead they said joseph will peer adventure hate us and will certainly require us all the evil he would will quiet us all the evil which we did unto him and they sent messengers to joseph saying thy father did command before he died saying now that we have no record where the father said that but there they made this story up so shall you say unto joseph forgive or pray they now the trespass of my brethren and their sins for they did unto me unto thee evil and now we pray thee forgive the trespass of the servants of god for thy father and joseph wept and when they spake unto him and his brethren also went and fell down before his face and they said behold we be thy servants and joseph said unto them fear not for am i in the place of god but as for you you thought evil against me but god meant it unto good to bring to pass as it is this day to save much people now therefore fear you not i will nourish you and your little ones and comfort them and he spoke kindly unto them now you see god has long-range plans for our life it's not just tomorrow god has long reigns now joseph was about 17 years old when he was sold and went down to egypt but now that many years has gone by many years has gone by god had long-range plans let me tell you something god's got long-range plans for you and me for our life don't don't don't get impatient with god he knows what he's doing he's got your life in his hand and you believe it joseph's brothers could not believe that joseph had forgiven them of their evil it was beyond their comprehension to believe that joseph actually because they knew how they'd they they'd put him in a pit and sold him as a slave and all the evil they did and they could not believe that joseph could forgive them of their evil well let me tell you for your consideration god has that quality and that gift for you and me to help us to forgive even though we've been done miserably wrong god can put a forgiving spirit in us that we can forgive but they couldn't they couldn't comprehend that but but notice we sometimes cannot believe some folks have truly repented either we sometimes think that um well he said uh uh forgive me but i i don't i i forgive you but i won't forget it you know and so forth but they couldn't believe that that that uh their brothers that their that their brother had actually uh that they'd repented and that joseph had forgiven them this is such a great quality for a child of god when you get the the spirit of god it isn't easy it it isn't easy peter one time said lord how many times shall i forgive my brother that that trespass against me said do i have to forgive him seven times in a day and jesus said i said you're 70 times 70. yeah you know and not seven times 490 times or 590 times but god can and it's not a bad spirit it's a good feeling when you can forgive and and you know you've been mistreated you know you've been mistreated and then we sometimes can't forgive ourselves i've seen people that cannot come to grips and cope with the fact that that god has forgiven them and they they feel guilty well let me tell you something when you ask god the second time to forgive you something he says for what because the bible said he'll cast your sins he will remember them against you no more cast them in the depths of the sea and one fellow suddenly put up an old fishing sign but the lord will forgive us and then he don't remember it he don't bring it up against us and so shall you say to joseph so remember remember that now let me start here here i have spent all my time reviewing but let me get some new material and luke chapter 23 and i'm not going to go past my i've got a lot of time i i've watched the clock on wednesday night luke 23 50. and behold there was a man named joseph a counselor and he was a good man and just the same had not consented to the counsel and the deed of them he was of armithia a city of the jews who also himself waited for the kingdom of god this man went to pilate and begged the body of jesus and he took it down and wrapped it in linen and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone wherein never a man before was laid and that day was the preparation and the sabbath day the sabbath drew on and the women also which came with him from galilee followed after and beheld the sepulcher and how his body was laid now now i'm laying a foundation for something that i want you to keep in your mind remember my thought was taken from they considered not the loaves and fishes i i'm building on that thought for us there's some things we need to consider and laying a foundation for something to show you what god does what it can do and then how sometimes we we are so slow to catch on to what god is doing we sometimes don't catch on to what god is doing and the women also which came with him from galilee followed after and beheld the sepulchre and how his body was laid and they returned and prepared spices and ointments and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment then luke 24 1 now upon the first day of the week very early in the morning they came unto the sepulcher bringing spices which they had prepared and certain others with them now back to joseph of urmathia uh he was a good man he was somewhat of a secret disciple he was a very important man but he was waiting on the coming of the messiah he just had a hard time making an open public commitment but jesus body hanging on the cross convinced him that he needed to go and beg the body and give it a decent beer and that he did and they found the stone uh rolled away from the sepulchre and they entered in and found not the body of the lord jesus and it came to pass as they were much perplexed now now watch this because you're going to you're going to remember the loaves and fishes before i'm finished and it came to pass as they were much perplexed thereabout behold two men stood by them in shining garments and as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth they said unto them why seek ye the living among the dead he's not here but has risen remember now watch this listen the angel said remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in galilee saying the son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified in the third day rise again and you're astonished that that he's not here you're astonished that the stone is rolled away what he's been telling you all the time what was going to take place and now then you're shocked at it they didn't consider the loaves and fishes they didn't consider that jesus had been telling him all the time that he was going to be crucified and that it was going to be raised the third day saying the son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men be crucified the third day and rise again and then they remembered his words and returned from the sepulchre and told all these things unto the eleven and to all the rest and it was mary magdalene and joanna and mary the mother of james and the other women and that were with them which told these things unto the apostles oh praise god i knew it was going to happen he told us it was going to happen yes sir thou i no that's not what they said and their word seemed to them as idle tales and they believed him not they didn't consider the loaves and fishes he had already told him what was going to take place and and you know i i'm guilty there's times that what about that sword hanging behind the epoch don't that's don't that means something david you may not have a slingshot now you may not have a soul but that sword that's hanging behind the epob don't you remember how you got that sword if you did it once he'll do it again and the word seemed to them as idle tales and they believe them not now what i'm saying to us tonight let us consider uh the things that god has already done for us let us consider the things that god has already done for us and don't it shouldn't be idle sound like idle tale to tell you how god supplied the need for the the bathrooms and the the the pews and and i didn't tell this the other night uh we was out one day and the fella walked up i think he had i think uh pastor mark was when there they had three brick and his hand and we didn't know where the brick was coming from and and and uh he had three bro look just like the breakthroughs and our other building he said uh where are y'all buying your brick uh to put in this church well we haven't decided yet and well he said i'm a salesperson for such a such brick company and said we built the blue cross blue shield building in chattanooga and said it's a high rise building we had to buy a lot of extra brick to make sure we didn't run out because if we run out you'd have a different dialogue and they wouldn't match and he said we we've got 55 000 brick that we're willing to sell and said we sell these was it three dollars a piece two dollars three dollars a brick was the retail price two dollars a brick and what did we offer him he said i'll sell them for 25 cents i'll sell them to you for 25 cents a break and you know what i said i said will you deliver them for that [Laughter] and he said yes we will now you want to hear the rest of that story most of you have many you've already heard it when when they were putting the brick in this building right here the brick if you turn around look back uh those two those two double doors are mounted in that that that brick that was the last brick that was laid in this building because there we had to leave that a large opening to get machines in and out and and so they put those two double doors in and started and the bricklayers told me said it looked like we're gonna run out of brick run out of brick what in the world are we going to a system of cool and i got out and we went around this film and every every little loop you know around the building site there will be a scat brick that you get and we'd give it up all the way we could and we had the brick mission around here above the ceiling there was some brick and we had them to chip them out and because we were sure we we just surely can't run out of brick but they said yes sir we're going to run out of brick and we gathered up all the brick that we saw scattered around here and there and they started laying brick and when they laid the last brick now well there's one more thing pastor mccool pastor mark mccool said dad the lord laid it on my heart to buy a 16 inch wide stone and put over the doors and and we're going to have it engraved holiness unto the lord holiness unto the lord now when you come in you'll see that there's a little girl um i believe it was uh brother phil ivan's daughter said she when she got married she wanted to walk under that hole in the son of the lord i don't know how long it is 16 inches wide and those double 16 16 feet wide and 16 inches deep now how many brick would it take to fill that big a hole 16 feet wide and 16 inches deep when they put those that stone up there and laid all the brick around it we had exactly 38 brick left over were we astonished did we consider what god had done in the past i've still got either some of them got scattered but there's some of them in in the uh the mechanical room now and and because it was and as a matter of fact somebody somebody the rest of the story well help me with it when the lord does something good you just got to talk about it isn't that what you're telling us to do yes sir let me tell you i asked your story i asked your help the rest of the story was this we were still working on this building wasn't finished yet and that finally laid that up and he had those brick left over and bishop called me before church we were still having church next door he said i'm not going to be in worship service he said ring my phone when it's time to take the offering and i rang his phone after worship service and it was time for the the offering he came rolling a cart down the center aisle with all of those leftover brick and he started giving a testimony and someone stood up and interrupted him and said bishop would you sell me one of those leftover bricks he said i'll sell every one of them for a thousand dollars a piece i want you to know in about 15 minutes we had sold every brick for a thousand dollars a piece so let me put god's math back in case you want to add it up we bought 54 000 brick for 25 cents a piece we bricked the whole building we took the remainer and sold them and had more money to put in the building program i tell everybody the lord did it in the book as he started reading tonight with bread and fish he did it for us with bricks he's still doing miracles today i said he still does miracles today [Music] if i mistake knowledge brother believing so i'll give a thousand dollars i'm gonna give the brick back i just i i'll buy one of those brick and then and let you keep the brick for souvenir and then everybody else started uh buying the brick for a thousand dollars of break and let me keep them and i've still got them don't touch them because they're valuable they're now a thousand dollars a piece they're not 25 not 25 cents a piece all right i'm out of time i've i've but okay let me we'll just stand your feet with us and their word seemed to them as idle tales and they believed them not uh this may sound like idle tales to you but these things are true these the i mean these are these are modern day miracles modern day provisions thank you pastor i'd let that slip my mind about how god had done it and done that and uh we still i think some of them have kind of got got scattered i i wanted to keep we got the 38 brick and they they match the other so good but stop and think now you imagine if a mason was here to tell you how many brick it takes to lay a 16 inch by 16 feet it took many many more than 30 than 38 brick so you see how god brought that thing together god is god and we're we're not going to be astonished at anything god does god is god hallelujah
