and praise the Lord everyone Lord we greet you tonight in the wonderful precious all powerful name of Jesus aren't you glad you know him and aren't you glad you know that name praise the Lord it is so good to see each one of you here tonight we have another great lesson every every lesson from the word of God is a great lesson and it's amazing uh I I'm reminded of the scripture so so many times when Jesus entered the synagogue and the Bible said that uh they gave him the the book The Scroll and uh he found the place where it was written and I think of that so much it's in there if you and I can just find where it's written I don't care what your problem is I don't mean that I don't care what it is I mean that it doesn't matter what your problem is it's in that book and if we'll study that book it'll help it'll have the answer for us if we'll just just listen to it I'm going to pray again we have as I said a a great lesson and pastors already uh given the request but we want especially pray for sister Croucher she had a fall and broke a couple of Bones and her shoulder and we want to pray for her and uh also we want to pray for uh sister Kathy Williams she's been in the hospital for many many days now and she's been so so faithful down through the years uh she started out uh wiping tables in the school 48 years ago and getting her education becoming a teacher and she's loved by all the teachers and all the students and we want to remember her and that God will bring her out of the hospital very soon and all the other requests father we thank you tonight for the privilege of gathering together with the saints of God we're thankful for the privilege of of studying the Blessed word of God I pray that you will anoint the lips of clay open our minds to hear to understand and be able to convey to the understanding of your people all those that we've requested prayer for pray for brother Jeff M and the loss of his daughter God you you are alone can give the comfort for such a thing pray for Lanny M oh God that you'll touch his body and Bonny that's taking care of him Lord I pray that you will give what You' have spoken in this service tonight in Jesus name we pray amen our lesson tonight is entitled just simply 38 years years 38 years 38 years ago sister M was married to a man that was not quite 50 years old 38 years ago Pastor M was 27 years old and had more hair than he's got tonight and I can't say there was any better looking because he's always been goodlooking and there are those in our congregation tonight that was not yet born 38 years ago and the rest of us there was a big change in US 38 years ago good to see brother Paul cooking hour tonight brother Paul we're so glad you're able to be back in the house of the Lord but it was a rather big year that year hopefuls gathered in New York City Times Square to Signal the dawning of a New Year's Day December 31st gave way to January 1 perhaps this year would be the best year of their lives it began as a year of Promise during the first month NASA was scheduled to launch a shutle carrying a teacher into space Christa and I'm not sure how to pronounce this m c a u l i f f mccallop was going to be the first teacher and astronaut and she was scheduled to conduct experiments and teach two lessons to the world from space however only 23 seconds after the launch of the Challenger the Challenger broke apart and we lost all Seven astronauts on board including Mrs McCulla while we mourned the loss of the Challenger crew another disaster shook the world three months later one of the nuclear reactors at at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded claiming the lives of 31 people and contaminating the surrounding area thousands more died at as a result of the Fallout and contamination although tourists visits Chernobyl the surrounding area remains radioactive to this day tourists must wear protective suits and masks and each visit must last no longer than five minutes to help the world take their minds off of this major tragedies such as these The Phantom of the Opera open rounds of to rounds of Applause at Her Majesty's theater in London in October of that year the fom of the Opera ran for 13,629 performances before it finally I called it a Curtain Call at 2020 those major news making lifechanging world events seemed to happened a lifetime ago they were 38 years ago 38 years ago was 1986 38 years from now will be 2062 38 years can be a long time the world has changed quite a bit in 38 years Ronald Reagan was President of the United States gasoline was 86 cents a gallon a new modestly sized house cost $992,000 but an annual salary was just under $30,000 for a fast moving jet setting business person of growing family 38 years can Scream by in a blink but for a person living with paralysis lying relying on others for food shelter and all the necessary things of life life surely must have drugg by so very slowly 38 years with somebody else taking care of him this is where we get into our story tonight in John chapter 5 it says after this there was a feast of the Jews and Jesus went up to Jerusalem the Jews had many uh religious feast that was even uh un necessary it was compulsive for them to attend and they had different names for different feast and it was a a great time of religious remembrance uh at these feasts but uh Jesus was at the Feast of the Jews and they went up to Jerusalem now there is at Jerusalem by the Sheep Market that sheep Market was uh more or less the Sheep gate where they drove their sheep through and taking them to Market as other animals and that uh gate was called um which is called in the Hebrew tongue the pool was called Bethesda having five porches now Jesus appears on the scene now remember this man had laid there 38 years Jesus wasn't even 38 years old himself Jesus wasn't even on the face of the Earth in bodily form when that man started laying at that gate with his paralysis in these lay a great multitude of impotent folk of blind halt withered waiting for the moving of the water what a a what a statement what a poetic sounding and uh interesting statement they were blind halt withered waiting for the moving of the water now here A man is waiting 38 years by the side of that pool and we're going to find out why he had been waiting so long for an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and Trouble the water now for me to explain this I cannot I do not know uh there are many things in the word of God that you and I don't understand and we don't have to understand I just simply believe it when the Bible says it that's the way it is um in uh one of the debates uh brother DL Welch I was debating and the the preacher debating with him kept on saying I don't understand this I don't understand don't understand that brother well said brother says he don't understand this and that he said I don't understand how black cow can eat green grass and give white milk and yellow butter but all I can say is pass the butter well that's the kind of the way I there's there's things that you and I may not be able to understand but if Jesus said it if the book says it that's that's that's good enough for me for an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the water and whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had and a certain man was there which had an infirmity 3 and8 years a certain man I I wonder about that the Bible tells us little else about this man but just a a certain man you are a certain woman a certain man a certain young person you're certain to God I want to tell you that right now you are a certain person to God and he knows all there is to know about you when Jesus saw him lie and knew that he had been now a long time and that came he said unto him wilt thou be made whole now that's like saying to an eagle will you fly would you like to fly that's like telling a child would you like to run across the church floor would you like to climb the steps you the the the answer is ready Jesus said would you be made whole that's a question and let me ask this um what would would you like to be delivered from a a expensive habit would you like to be delivered from alcoholism would you like to be delivered from uh the the habit of nicotine I remember my father many years ago uh he's he he could been a a an example for Camel cigarettes because uh their saying was I walk a mile for a camel my dad never went without a pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket and every morning after breakfast he would go in that pocket and pull out a cigarette and all the rest of us we were addicted to secondhand nicotine I guess um but uh would you like to be set free would would you like to be set free of a bad temper uh now or do you do do you want you want to keep that temper I've seen folks who seem to relish their ability to to blow off steam and as they say lose their temper but they're not losing it they're finding it but would would you like to would you would you like to be more like Jesus I told you the other day that Bobby and I used to sing a song that I want to be more and more like Jesus every day I want to be more and more like Jesus every day I want to be holy I want to be lowely I want to be kind I want to be like Jesus every day well we all should want to be like him Jesus said would you be made whole well if if you want to lose your your bad habit and sometimes it's it's it could be a bad habit of a of a high temper or or gossip or speaking when you should speak and we're we're faced with the the greatest um medium of of of uh of conversation that's ever been and since time began and that's everybody that's got a iPad or telephone or a laptop you can go around the wall world and you can get into fuss with people and all you well as for me I I I don't I don't want that I want to be deliver from that do do you want to be delivered from the internet well they stay off of it just just just stay off of it it won't chase you down but you once you start listening once you start reading and then it's it's a little bit more and a little bit more a little bit more when Jesus saw him Li knew he'd been there a long time he said WIIL thou be made whole the impotent man answered him sir now he didn't he didn't say he wanted to be made whole or but notice how he answered Jesus sir I have no man I don't have anybody he's depending on somebody and nobody was there I have no man when the water is troubl to put me into the pool but while I am coming another step down before me this poor impotent man this poor crippled man when the angel trouble the water here he goes to shuffling trying to trying to get in the water and before he could get in someone always beats him there uh our life and the Bible is split up in dispensations and we could spend a great deal of time just talking about the different dispensations and and this particular time uh this this man had to depend on somebody else you remember the other story in the Bible when Jesus was in the house and the house was so full of people nobody could get in it was so and and there was a there was four men knew about a man that was sick of the poliy and these four men got him on his cotter's bed and took him to that house where Jesus was teaching and uh they couldn't get in but they were so determined they they somehow got him up on top of that roof and uncovered the roof the Bible said and let him down before Jesus it is so interesting to me I find it so fascinating the many different stories in the Bible of how folks uh got to Jesus and what Jesus did for them and it gives me inspiration uh let me at least be one of the four to help somebody get up on the roof let me be one of those that chops away through let me help somebody to to be let down in front of Jesus let me that fell that can't get in the water but he don't need to get in the water there's another answer and we'll find we're we're fixing to find out and and and uh the certain man that was had the infirmity for uh 38 years Jesus said WIIL thou be made whole the infinite man answered sir I have no man when the water is troubled to put me into the pool and while I am coming another stth down before me Jesus saith unto him rise take up thy bed and walk there's a new day it's a new it's a new dispensation I have no man you've got somebody you've got a specialist here and he is so special you've never had a man to put you in the water you've never had a man you're talking to somebody now that is not only a man but he's man and he's God you're talk you're talking to the God man you're talking to the one that made this whole body of yours and if you want just listen to what he says now get up off of that bed pick up that bed and walk well that Thrills me that Thrills me too um when Peter and John was going into the temple being the third hour The Hour of Prayer and there was a man there there was and he they he they brought him daily and laid him at this gate and he was he wasn't begging to get healed he was just begging for uh just enough money to get a little something to eat to live by and when he Peter and John started in he looked Peter looked at him and said sir and then he looked into them expecting to receive the Bible said and Peter said Silver and Gold Have I known if you put a period there that's a pretty sad story silver and gold have I none but he didn't stop there he didn't stop there he didn't put a period there he said Silver and Gold Have I None but such as I have give I unto thee and he reached him by the hand and lifted him up and the Bible said immediately his ankle bones regained strength and the man jumped up and leaped up and went leaping into to the temple there's a new day folks there's a new day hallelujah it's no longer having to have somebody help you in the in the pool it's no longer a droping a few pennies in in a cup but now then he is the god man that can do all things and Jesus said take up your bed and walk and immediately immediately the man was made whole and took up his bed and walked and on the same day was the Sabbath uh oh we've done we we're done here a problem now the same day was the Sabbath now we've got a group of religious folks here that are so dedicated to the old dispensation when uh the different times in the Bible talks about a a a Sabbath Day's Journey they could only go so far on the Sabbath until it became a task and you you was breaking the law and now then the Bible adds this this man took up his bed and this being the Sabbath look out when you start following what Jesus has to say You're going to you're going to cross swords with somebody you're going to find out that you're in trouble with somebody with another religious idea I was preaching three times in fact I I I I found out I was listening one of my old tapes the other day and I I made the statement then I was preaching four times a day and uh and was uh preaching had a program Elizabeth in Tennessee and had a program on on uh a 50,000 watt station in the edge of Atlanta Georgia and so I had so many programs going and and it it everybody didn't enjoy my preaching can you imagine that everybody didn't enjoy that and uh there was a fellow came through about that time talking about the the Illuminati supposed to be some kind of secret organization and and and the Illuminati supposed to be uh they told about uh exposing people to speak in tongues that this was of the devil and it was demon possession all that business and and one of the preachers on the radio followed me and he he told what a terrible preacher I was and talked about this dogf faac liar from hell and of course I I came back and I said I don't deny the being the dogf face but I not from hell and I said be careful preachers and you talk about tongues being of the devil the Bible says that you can speak a word you against the son of man but if you speak a word against the Holy Ghost it'll not be forgiven you and if you're not careful Brothers you'll you'll find yourself blaspheming but it caused a great stir simply because what I was preaching was different to what they were preaching and and it just and I said the brothers I'm going to love you I'm going to I'm going to love you and uh I met one of the preachers in the radio station one day and and I I was very corer spoke to him and he went off like a firecracker and he said Billy MCU you are a l hypocrite you're a false prophet begin to poke me in the chest and he said you're you're telling you those children out there coming you're telling them to get baptized in Jesus name and and he just went off and I said now wait a minute brother I said now you're not big enough to make me mad at you I love you brother I love you and you're not big enough to make me mad you're just not you can't I love you and I'm going to continue to love you and somehow that didn't soothe him all that much either and uh few days later uh our the the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ asked all all their preachers how the month that we went to Washington to uh to greet our officials our uh uh senators and congressmen from our state and our area and I was to be one of those I was a superintendent at that time and I was supposed to be one of those to fly up which I I did but a few days after that that the the radio station manager called me in the one of the uh Studios and he went around and and unplugged all the microphones what in the world is he doing he said I want to tell you he said certain preacher said he's on and said uh uh he forgot to turn his he comes on by remote control and he said the other day he left it on and said he made it tell telephone call to Senator Sasser and said he told him said now there's a preacher here in town by the name of Billy MCU that's going to try to make an appointment with you and said don't you make an appointment with him he was conversing with our Senator and he said me and some of the preachers here in town said we're getting together and we're going to run him out of town now I'm not telling you a false story this is absolutely the that announcer is still alive today and and and he said I just want to tell you that you need to watch your back and watch was well I said I don't know what there is to watch I'm what I am every day wherever I am well I'm telling you that I think that's kind of a a mysterious story to tell a congregation like this but at any rate uh that's been 50 years ago or so and and I'm still here they hadn't run me they hadn't run me out of town yet uh but what I'm telling you is when you preach the truth you're going to have opposition right and you need to make sure that you manifest and demonstrate the right Spirit you can have the right message but you can have the wrong spirit and we need to we need to know the truth believe the truth and be able able to explain the truth without being uh abrasive and and uh name calling with somebody else be that as a me here we go all right immediately the man was made a whole and it was on Sabbath the Jews therefore said unto him that was cured it's the Sabbath day it is not lawful for thee to carry thy now here was a poor man that had been laying there for 38 years none of them had come around to try to help him get in the water but they were there to fuss at him for carrying his bed on Sunday he said don't you know don't you know that it's against the law for you to carry your bed on Sunday you're breaking the law and he answered them he that made me whole the same said unto me take up thy bed and want then asked they him what man man is that which saith unto thee take up th bed and walk who was it and he that was heal with not who it was for Jesus had conveyed himself away a multitude being in the place the man didn't even know who it was but he said there one thing that reminds me of of of another scripture the the the man that was blind born blood been blinding his whole life and Jesus healed him and and had the same reaction and they they criticized him and and uh they came to him said who performed this miracle he he said they went F first of all went to his parents and his parents said he's of age go ask him and they was afraid they'd get thrown out and they asked him and he said he may be a sinner I know not but I do know that whereas I was blind now I see I know there's been a Chang in my life now we're dealing with with with the circumstance and and the reaction of what Jesus does now afterwards Jesus findeth him in the temple and said to him behold Thou Art made whole sin no more lest a worst thing come unto unto thee the man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus which had made him whole now then this creates another problem he didn't know who he was but now he knows we said that man that called Jesus is the one that did it okay now we know who to really attack we're going to we're going to go to him and therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus and sought to slay him because he had done these things on the Sabbath day once they picked up stones and started to Stone Jesus and Jesus said for which of my good works do you Stone me and they said for your good works we don't Stone you but thou being a man has made thyself God and they had it right backwards it wasn't a man making himself God he was God making himself man and they they couldn't understand it now when they were confronted they confronted Jesus with the Sabbath he said the Sabbath was made for man not man for or man was not not made man not made for the Sabbath the sabbaths were made for the man and then said which of you if you had an ox had gotten a ditch on the Sabbath would you leave that poor ox in that ditch or would you help get him out and and then on another occasion Jesus reminded them of David when he he went to the house of God when he was running from Saul and he he told the high priest uh we we need something to eat and uh the priest said we don't have anything but shoe bread we have the special bread that nobody eats but the priest but this is an extraordinary situation and they permitted David and his men to eat this shoe bread because of a certain circumstance and we we taught here some time ago uh about uh was it the I believe was in the um the um next to the last book of the Bible uh I'm trying to think that the they what they it said um another uh he implicated that you don't treat everybody the same another way another way there's something different the reason for that is he wasn't talking about changing the doctrine but it was changing the approach and and you and I don't change our Doctrine for anybody right but we do change our approach and and and Jesus changed his approach because some of those he really spoke to them and and called them Hypocrites and was really straight with them but here he finds a woman uh that had been married five times and Liv in common law with somebody yet he reaches out to her with with tenderness and compassion and forgives her of what she she had done well if we could understand Jesus has got the proper approach to every one of us whatever we have a certain man don't forget that a certain man therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus but Jesus answered them my father worketh hereto and I work therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him now then you've done it because he not only have broken the Sabbath but said also that God was his father making himself equal with god well we know what Jesus said in John 10:30 Jesus said I and my father or two or three or no he said I and my father are one and and and and there are three that bear record in heaven the Father the word and the Holy Ghost and these three are one it said and they couldn't possibly uh grasp this and understand it then answered Jesus and said unto them verily I say unto you the son can do nothing of himself but what he seeth the father do for what things soever he doeth these also doeth the son likewise now if he's not putting these Fells in the Tail Spin and causing their head to swirl when begins to talk about the Son and the father now he say the son which the Father which is the son which notice what for the Father loveth the Son and showeth him all things that himself doeth and he will show him Greater Works than these that ye may Marvel for as the father raiseth up the dead and Quicken them even so the son quickeneth whom he will now then he's leaving them uh because that they were just simply critical without an open mind without trying to understand the new dispensation and so notice the way Jesus is putting it for the father judgeth no man but ha committed all judgment unto the son that all men should honor the son even as they honor the father he that honth not the son honth not the Father which hath sent him now they're not they're not getting the point here because as Jesus is teaching them going back and forth the father and the son uh he he's letting them know that Jesus is God manifest In the Flesh Jesus was as much man as he was God and he was as much God as he was man and I have a little I have a little book that I wrote many years ago uh on on the uh common questions concerning um Apostolic Doctrine and U what's meant by the Oneness the term Oneness means sameness or sness in other words the father Son and Holy Ghost are one and the same the godhead is not comprised of three separate and distinct persons but one almighty God who manifests himself as the father in creation as the son in Redemption and as the holy ghost in the church first Timothy 3:16 and without controversy great is the mystery of godliness God was manifest In the Flesh justified in the spirit seen of angels preached unto the Gentiles believed on the world received up into Glory now now notice what I just read without argument without controversy great is the mystery of godliness God with a capital G God was manifest In the Flesh justified in the spirit seen of angels preached unto the Gentiles believed on the world received up into Glory John 424 God is a spirit Luke 2439 a spirit hath not Flesh and Bones John 1:18 no man has seen God at any time God is an invisible spirit so he chose to wrap himself in human flesh and manifest himself as the son in order to have a body which could die as the sacrifice for sins Colossians 1:13 through 17 who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and ha translated us into the kingdom of his dear son in whom we have Redemption through his blood even the forgiveness of sin who is the image of the invisible God the firstborn of every creature for by him were all things him Jesus Christ for by him were all things created that are in heaven and are in Earth visible and invisible whether the things whether there be Thrones or dominions or principalities or Powers all things were created by Him and for him and he is before all things and by him all things consist and this is the thing that they couldn't understand Jesus is the image of the invisible God Colossians 2:9 for in him Jesus dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily 2 Corinthians 5:19 to it God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself Jesus was the fleshly embodiment of God John 1489 Philip said to him Lord show us the father and it suffice us Jesus said to him have I been so long time with you and thou has known me thou known me Phillip he that has seen me ha seen the father how say and father and how sayest thou then show us the father in these verses Jesus was affirming himself to be the father thus confirming the prophecy concerning him in Isaiah 9 and6 For unto us a child is born unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulders and his name Shall be Called wonderful [Music] counselor the Mighty God now who are we talking about about we're talking about Jesus being the Mighty God now this is where these folks were getting know they couldn't understand and they were ready to well they sought to kill Jesus and eventually they did because he came into this world to die for our sins and eventually he did Jesus is the image of the invisible God for in him dwells all the fullness of the godhead bodily Isaiah 96 For unto us a child is born unto us a son is given and the government shall be upon his shoulder his name Shall be Called wonderful counselor the Mighty God the Everlasting father the Prince of Peace please note Jesus was called the Everlasting father and not the Everlasting son the office of son was for the designated purpose and the designated time Matthew 1:21 and he shall bring and she shall bring forth a son and thou shallal call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins the sunship office was for the purpose of offering a perfect sacrifice for him to save his people we see this office abolished in 1 Corinthians 15:24 through 28 then cometh the end when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God even the father when he shall have put down all Rule and all authority and power for he must Reign till he ha put all enemies under his feet The Last Enemy that shall be destroyed is death for Heath put all things under his feet but when he saith all things are put under him it is Manifest that he is accepted which did put all things under him and when all things shall be subdued unto him then shall the son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him that God may be all in all and I'm getting close to my uh predetermined set time but let me quote just a little bit more Adam and Clark the noted Bible commentator had the following comments in verse 28 the son also himself be subject when the administration of the kingdom of Grace is holy Clos when there shall be no longer any state of Probation and consequently no longer need uh of a distinction between the kingdom of grace and the kingdom of Glory then the son as being man and Messiah shall cease to exercise any distinct dominion and God be all in all there remaining no longer any distinction of persons of the Glorious Trinity as acting any distinct or separate parts and either the kingdom of Grace or the kingdom of Glory so that one infinite that one infinite Essence shall appear undivided and eternal now then the hypothesis that the person Jesus was giving up a governmental Kingdom to the uh the person father is une unequivocally refuted in Isaiah 9:7 of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end he's not giving up the kingdom he is giving up the sunship I've given this illustration a lot of times uh if it's a a lifes saer if you go down to the beach they've got a a big tall of uh apparatus and a chair on top of it uh where a man can watch out him and and he can see if anybody's in trouble out there swimming but now when the weather changes and and it gets cold and everybody's stays home and there's nobody there to save he don't he's no longer a lifesaver he just he just uh he he loses that position when The Last Enemy which is death is destroyed he said the son will be subject and he gives up the the very reason he became son is to be the Savior when there's nobody left to save he's not going to be savior anymore he's going to be God Almighty forever and ever aren't you glad you know him praise the Lord Give the Lord a great big hand clap if Jesus and the father are one then how did stepen see Jesus on the right hand of God acts 7:55 but he being full of the Holy Ghost looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing on the right hand of God we've already established by St John 1:18 that no man has seen God at any time the only begotten son who is in the bosom of the father he hath declared him if we maintain that stepen literally saw God and saw Jesus standing beside him then we have a clear contradiction of scripture if we contend that on the right hand means a physical position then we must also accept that in the bosom of the father is a physical position which of course would be a curious configuration of a two-port two-part God concept the the answer to this seemingly complicated question is found in Matthew 2664 Jesus sath unto him thou has said nevertheless I say unto you Hereafter shall you see the son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the Clouds Of Heaven when Steven saw the glory of God and Jesus on the right hand of God he saw the Glorious relationship of the mediator man Christ Jesus on the right hand of power for further scripture corroboration that right hand does not necess constitute a physical position read Luke 11:20 but if I with the Finger of God cast out Devils no doubt the kingdom of God is coming to you the Finger of God is used here figuratively as the power of God just as the right hand is similarly used the preceding rationale is required else we have the peculiar situation of one God literally being in the bosom of another God and and one God casting out Devils with the finger of another God Steven leaves us no doubt as to his understanding concerning the deity of Christ in Acts 7:59 and they stoned stepen calling upon God saying calling upon God saying Lord Jesus receive my spirit Steven called upon God and behold what name did he call him Lord Jesus does this not harmonize with Paul's experience in Acts 9 and5 and he said who art thou Lord and the Lord said I am Jesus would you stand to your feet with us right now praise the lord well the crowd the sad group that was looking for every excuse to crucify Jesus Jesus because he was God manifest In the Flesh and the sad thing about it he was the long awaited Messiah that they had waited centuries for wait and sad to say they're still fighting over this there's war going on right they're still looking for the Messiah that came 2,000 years ago he came to his own the Bible said and his own received him not but to as many as received him to them gave he power to become the sons of God father we thank you tonight for the word of the Lord we're thankful for the thrill and the joy we get in studying it and Lord there are those that have been more than 38 years unable to get into the pool of Deliverance and we're thankful that we found that pool of
