Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The Kingdom First

  • The teacher opens the study in the 'Kingdom Living' series with the study 'The Kingdom First' and reads the focus verse: seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
  • He tells how the call to Knoxville was laid on his heart in prayer while he was holding a revival in Little Rock, and how the church here and the Christian school that followed grew out of that beginning.
  • He and his wife were married on June 16, 1956; the early years here were hard — a rented house, coal carried in for heat, and pole-bean poles gathered for fuel — and the church's first outreach ran a school bus on visitation, answered once by a box of groceries left by Robert and Geneva Perry.
  • He says he never sought a name for himself, contrasting his own course with the fame that came to others of his era, and tells of his son Mark Anthony's birth, when sister McKinney assured the frightened young father his wife would be all right.

Scriptures: Matthew 6:33

Rightly Dividing the Word

  • Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth — the teacher tells the class he studies early and late because he wants the lesson fresh when he stands to teach.
  • He reads the opening of the Sermon on the Mount and stresses that the disciples were its first audience: Jesus saw the multitudes, went up into the mountain, and his disciples came unto him.
  • He reads 'therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life' and then the two-masters verse — no man can serve two masters, ye cannot serve God and mammon — warning that God will hold the believer responsible for how he spends his life.

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 2:15; Matthew 5:1-2; Matthew 6:25; Matthew 6:24

Against Greed and Choking Cares

  • Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? — he applies the soldier and the vineyard to the Christian's own warfare and provision.
  • The seed among thorns is choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life; he applies the thorns to a people worn down by overtime and the cares of this life until they have no strength left to serve God.
  • He reads the warning against hearts overcharged with surfeiting, tells of the rich man whose ground brought forth plentifully and who said 'soul, thou hast much goods', and applies it to a generation building bigger houses and barns.
  • Be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God — illustrated by a friend who made a fortune writing songs in Nashville and would trade the money back for the simplicity he left.

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 9:7; Luke 8:14; Luke 21:34; Philippians 4:6

Providing Is Not a Contradiction

  • If any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith — the teacher insists this does not contradict taking no thought, and tells of a truck driver who quit his job to prove his faith and came to see he had a wife and children to feed.
  • If any would not work, neither should he eat; he joins it to not slothful in business, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing instant in prayer.
  • Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise — the ant prepares her meat in the summer with no guide, overseer, or ruler, and the sluggard is warned how long he will sleep.

Scriptures: 1 Timothy 5:8; 2 Thessalonians 3:10; Romans 12:11-12; Proverbs 6:6-11

The Father Feeds and Clothes

  • Behold the fowls of the air: they sow not, neither do they reap, yet the heavenly Father feedeth them — the teacher marvels that a boyhood spent killing birds for food hid from him that God provided even for the robin that nested on the fence post where he chopped wood.
  • Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? — and why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin.
  • On apparel he reads that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, and Peter's word that the adorning is not outward but the hidden man of the heart, applying it to plain and modest dressing rather than display.
  • Even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these; if God so clothe the grass of the field, shall he not much more clothe you — and he closes by restating the focus verse and dismissing the class.

Scriptures: Matthew 6:26-28; 1 Timothy 2:9; 1 Peter 3:3-5; Matthew 6:29-30

neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved aren't you glad you know that name tonight um Pastor Anthony has already given the Quest for brother Triplett I talked to him yesterday at uh at a pretty much great less and uh system of cools had Uh something's wrong with brother trippin he's not well and um I I didn't detect it she has better discernment than I do and but she even after we hung up she said there's something wrong with brother Triplett he just don't sound right and sure enough we got the call today that he had a heart attack he's had three stents put in women said and this but it said he is stable and on the mend so we want to continue to pray for him we've got three ministers that's uh very seriously ill that we are personally acquainted with of course my brother Danny Livingston and Brother David Peters brother Triplett and we want to remember them in prayer hold them up before the Lord we're going to go to the word of the Lord shortly and uh brother uh Jeremy asked me that I want to sit or stand tonight and I think I'll Stand because I can always get up when I want to but if I start out Stan if I start out standing uh it's I can't say in fact I'm going to be reading from The Book of Matthew the fifth chapter Jesus instead of him and sing the multitudes that went up into the mountain and when he was set so if he said I'll set also um we're going to be in the word of the Lord tonight praise God let's pray for the Lord to give us the word he would have spoken tonight father we do thank you for the word of God I pray Lord that you will anoint the lips and play with the spirit of God give what you would have for this service tonight as we study the word of the Lord God give me that which you will have this congregation our church family to hear in Jesus name and we do pray for brother triplet Brother David Peters and brother Danny Livingston all those that need our prayer Pray for Pastor Mark and sister Jamie in the camp meeting they're preaching in Michigan give them a great great Revival in Jesus name we pray amen and amen we are studying the series 2 Kingdom living Kingdom living and tonight's study is entitled the kingdom first the kingdom first it has been said and it Bears repeating serving God a hard is easy in serving God easy is hard if you uh if you give it all your gut if you really are in love with Jesus and the work of God uh even your your trials and your hardships seems a lot lighter and as I studied this lesson I I thought I'll tell you more about it as as we go along let's go ahead and get started uh our Focus verse is found in Matthew chapter 6 verse 33 but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you um it was uh in the year 1956. sister McCool and I had only been married a few months in fact it may have been the third or fourth Revival and I'm not sure we were married in Pontiac Michigan on June the 16th 1956 and and that was on a Saturday night following Tuesday night we began Revival and Windfall Indiana with brother Lester Magruder and from there we went to a Cincinnati Ohio preached a two-week Revival for the church there with brother Joe David Sizemore and from there if I mistake not um we we wound up preaching for brother AO Holmes in Little Rock Arkansas and that's the church to this day they called it the big church in in Little Rock because as you go on the interstate 40 and the bypass there uh they they built a of course when we preached there it was his second Buckeye it was a a building that it was a good sized building but there's nothing to compare with the the building they built later on that building at uh Second and Buckeye burn and they built a beautiful big building and then they built one next to it identical to her and they said look except it was about twice or three times as large and but anyway where we were in Revival one night the Lord nudged me to get up and go out to the at that time brother and sister home and lived just a few houses from the church and um I went to the to the church and it was the Sunday School rooms and I was praying and the Lord distinctly laid Knoxville Tennessee on my heart and it was so strong God laid on my heart to come to Knoxville and I started church and a Christian School that was it was it was connected together a church and a Christian School and the Lord showed me then that the future held for all of us there would be a battle for the mind that that's that's where the devil is working in in the mind of man and I didn't realize at the time how how powerful this would be how young folks out in the world would go to school and even in our own School our teachers uh they they demanded a certain degree and then had to go to Atlanta and be certified and and then they wanted us they tried to Wrangle around that we had to go back every two years I believe it was and be re-indoctrinated with what the way they wanted things talk and of course that's none other than just and those who aren't spiritually minded if all they're in it is just to teach School they'll they'll let that stuff be poured right into their their mind and you see where we've gone to right now uh with the educational system because these little ones that grew up and became teachers became professors became leaders in the colleges and universities they're the ones that's teaching what they were hearing nowadays about uh if a boy thinks she's a girl then he can go have surgery and and he called himself a girl to my spirit he can or whether they had surgery or not it can go ahead and use the the girl's bathroom and then the girls if they want to act like a boy and be a boy they'll well of course the Bible said professing themselves wise they became fools now what I'm getting at tonight is a seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you now I didn't say it would always be easy but seek ye first the kingdom of God now uh system of cool and I our first thought when God called us to come to Knoxville was to do a missionary work it was a whole missionary work but we we felt like we were missionaries and we were not expecting it to just fall into our hands we were expecting hard times to come our way but in in doing all of this it made it made the hard times seemed like normal times because we were seeking first the will of God and doing what God wanted us to do and and when the first uh hoop law was over and the Tent Revival and so forth we rented a little house in South Knoxville 1116 Valley Street and the the rent was forty five dollars a month and uh that was hard to meet sometimes and when winter came on that that first winter um after a while uh we started buying a system of cool sister and brother-in-law had a warm morning heating stove you know what that is that's a coal burning stove and they loaned it to us and we set it up and uh we we bought I think a ton of coal or half a ton of something and then that soon ran out and I would go out and buy a cold 50 cents a bag because I didn't have enough money to buy a a ton of coal and then it actually got down to the place so I didn't have the money to buy the the 50 Cent bag of coal and the folks that have lived there before us they had raised a garden and they had raised pole beans and interview gardeners know what pole beans are you stick poles in the ground and and the the beans wrap around that and then it's my favorite kind of beans and and to them it's a very delicious bean and I said my my favorite I can't see I my favorite beans is beans [Laughter] I like all of them and sister McCool's been fixing some beans and some folks has brought us here how delicious they are but my point was I went out in the pools but poles up and broke them up and used them as a as a fuel for the Heat and stove and now we mold out a a kerosene stuff so where's the electricity stood up on legs his old-fashioned and but anyway We Were Somehow just trying to uh trying to make a a go of it and um we bought them a used couch and and how to fill it to upholster it didn't have legs set it on brick bats and um but I'm telling you all of that to take to say this what we were doing it was a joy because we felt like we were doing something for the Lord seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and and these things will be added unto you well I I one that I remember distinctly somebody had thought a chair out back it was it had been a poster chair and had a wood frame and I broke it up and used it for fuel in that uh and one more in the heat in the stove and but one day we was brother Peters in the church in Kingsport gave us a a 66 passenger School Bus and uh we can put our whole church in that school bus pretty easy but we'd get up and we had the money to putting gas in it and we would visit and and invite people to church and one day distinctly I remember we left to go out inviting people to church and let me see if I can find it I'll read it to him the way the way the thing came about because when we left we didn't have the money to buy groceries that day and and the Lord knows that that we were we were just about out of anything to eat brother g.d Peters and the apostolic church or Kingsport donated a large school bus to us to bring people to church one dance system of cool and I went out driving that old school bus inviting people to church when we left there was no food in the house and no money to buy food when we returned from our Sunday school visitation there was a cardboard box setting on the front porch with a week's worth of groceries God had moved on the hearts of brother Robert and sister Geneva Perry to bring food to us and our Wilderness experience those were trying times but they were terrific times now I'm reading that for this purpose seek ye first the kingdom of God now if you're looking for an easy life if you're looking for a popularity if you're looking for those things then it it may not be so comfortable but you see we were not looking for an easy life we were looking to do something for the Lord and there's another chapter in this that um I wanted to read to hoopla or holiness Fame and Fortune were not what we were seeking for Dolly Parton and her sisters and others was on the Grand Ole Opry now we had appeared on the Kaz Walker show with Dolly and Stella Parton that was long before she became well known she was just a little country girl trying to get started in Show Business and we appeared on the same stage on the radio and Cas Walker fireman homeowner is what they called it and uh Fame and Fortune was not what we were seeking for Dolly and others it was on the other even when the Grand old Opry but for us it was on the grand old gospel and the hoopla came after the hoopla the preaching of Holiness now there is a noticeable difference in the number of people who love hoopla and those who love holiness I did not come to Knoxville to be an Entertainer God had clearly spoken to me in the wee hours of the night in North Little Rock Arkansas to go to Knoxville and build a church and a Christian School now that's what we were here for and the hard times were good times because we felt like we were doing the will of God well living in that little 45 a month house uh that worked out for a while and when we found out there was a a retired military man that had a 42-foot house trailer and he wanted to sell it and uh sister McCool and I uh we approached heard her daddy and her brothers and they signed a note for us at the bank in Bakersville North Carolina they signed a note for us to buy that that trade it was a pink trailer and we bought that trailer and we set it in brother McKinney's yard well we didn't have the money to put in a septic tank brother McKinney was willing to let us set it there for free and if we wanted to put a septic tank in we could do that and but we didn't have the money to put in a septic tank and we every day we'd go up and use the bathroom at brother and sister McKinney's well after a while we got the feeling like a an imposition and going up there every day and so we've found out we back then they had service stations they didn't have a place like you buy gas now that kind of places you drive up and they'd put gas in your car and and they had restrooms and they they gave away a product Young Folks don't know what they are now but they they gave away Maps you unfold them you never could fold them back up the way they were but you could get a free map and and but we would we would go and sometime we'd get a dollar's worth of gas and use the restroom and every day would get a different get a different restaurant different different service station and um I guess after a while they probably got to thinking they we must be restroom inspectors but now this is what a a preacher is offering his Young Bride his wife and when she had seen him on television and a Tent Revival in Johnson City the crowds were large and Bobby and I had been on television were well known at that time in that part of the country but now then I've been reduced to to restroom inspector and had a young wife that could have turned against that man that she had married but she didn't she was willing to go with me every step I took she would take him with me when I went out visiting the for Sunday school she went with me if I drove that old 66 passenger bus she went with me and and and the point I'm trying to make right now it was not a hard life it was not a sacrifice it was a joy we felt like we were doing something for God and I'm telling you if you'll seek first the kingdom of God I'm not telling you you won't have any hard times I'm not telling you that everything's going to be erosion you may have plenty of hard times but the the goal that you're reaching for and what you're doing for the Lord is so much more important you feel proud and thankful that God is letting you I still I still Rejoice I still Rejoice over being able to be a part of the kingdom of God I don't know how many people to ask me brother McClure did you ever Envision or think about having a church like no I didn't think that I I said one time if I ever got to the point I could make a hundred dollars a week I could live in a brick house and drive a Cadillac and I live because I that that was my top of the goal of thinking about making money but the the main goal was my goal then was souls and now then my goal is still sold and the differences I've got lots more people that's that's helping us we've got a great pastoral staff since then of course God gave me as a son in this little book 50 years of memories I tell about uh system of cool got got real sick and she thought she'd been poisoned and she went up to Sister McKinney and told us at the McKinney how bad she felt and she was throwing up every day and she said sister McKinney I think I'm poisoned sister McKinney was an older lady and with a lot of wisdom she smiled and she said yes honey I think you've been poisoned too I think you better go to the doctor and have a pregnancy test and sure enough that's what it was the one thing we didn't need at that time was a baby to come along at this hard time but God so fit to send Mark Anthony and what a joy it was to have him now keep in mind what we're teaching tonight and each one of which I kept all over in front of me I could look each one of you in the eye that when you're when you feel like you're doing the will of God or you're wanting to do the will of God seek ye first the kingdom of God I wasn't looking to be famous like Dolly Parton I wasn't seeking to be an Entertainer on the Kaz Walker show we Bobby and I had our own radio and TV show back in in the Kingsport in Johnson City a commercial program but that's not what God called me for when I was a little boy at 11 years old I I got the Holy Ghost and one night shortened thereafter I got up to testify in a little Trinity Pentecostal church and the Holy Ghost came on me and I began to preach I wasn't in tongues but I I preached a message that night my first message was uh unannounced as unbeknownst to me that I was going to the Holy Ghost just fell and I took over the service seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these other things will be added folks what I'm telling you I I I now will soon be 87 years old and I'm still seeking first the kingdom of God that's number one for me I want the kingdom of God and I want his righteousness I want to see more folks filled with the Holy Ghost I want to see God continue to move him and that makes everything wonderful everything else is secondary when you're seeking first the kingdom of God well excuse me a minute well let me get on with something else no in the The Book of Matthew the fifth chapter Jesus starts out teaching the the famous it's called The Sermon on the Mount Sermon on the Mount and that's not what the Bible calls it but he was it went up to the mountain here's what it says in the fifth chapter in the first verse and seeing the multitudes he went up into a mountain and when he was set his disciples came unto him and he opened his mouth and taught them saying blessed are the poor blessed they were born blessed the meek blessed and we've already gone through that but this is the beginning of the the Beatitudes and we're we're going into the sixth chapter of Matthew tonight but I've got myself a notice here or a note it said note the beginning of the Beatitudes Jesus was primarily teaching his disciples now he was teaching his own the the 12 and he looked and there was a huge multitude gathered because everywhere Jesus went they would bring sick folks and he would heal them and it didn't take very long till my what a crowd was following him because they were they were expected to get their healing and and there was a great multitude there then and and he was primarily teaching his disciples now let me read you in in second Timothy 2 15 because this is important studying now Paul is writing to Timothy he said study to show myself approved unto God a Workman that needed not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of Truth Now what we're teaching tonight the Beatitudes took two or three chapters for him to to teach The Sermon on the Mount but you've got to rightly divide the word of Truth to understand what Jesus is getting across to them now let us go on now in the and I've already read Matthew 5 1 and 2 and sing the multitudes that went up into a mountain and when he was sent his disciples came unto him and he opened his mouth and taught them saying now let's go to Matthew 6 25 because we've already gone through the previous chapters and verses but verse 25 it says therefore I say unto you take now remember I read a scripture To You Paul said study to show thyself approved to work with unto God that needeth not to be saved rightly dividing the word of Truth now I have had a few people in my life that I have seen that did not rightly divide the word of God and they got in trouble because they didn't fully understand what they were supposed to do I'll get to that a little bit later therefore I say unto you take no thought for your life what you shall eat or what you shall drink nor yet for your body what you shall put on is not the life more than meat and the body than than Raymond now notice he said therefore I say unto you take no thought now when we see the word therefore in the scripture we need to see what is therefore because he's referring to something else when he said therefore he said that because of something else so when you read in the Bible when it says therefore you need to find out what's there for so let's go to Matthew 6 24. no man can serve two masters now when we see that in scripture we need to see what is there for so let us look at the previous verse no man can serve two masters for either he will hate the one and love the other or else he will hold to the one and despise the other you cannot serve God and Mammon now the general thought of this paragraph is to warn his disciples against greed and excesses now he didn't mean that every saint of God are supposed to prepare for living food and so forth I'll prove that to you shortly but his teaching the disciples if you're going to be my disciples if you're going to be be persons next to me living day by day with me which he was talking to a certain group now I don't think you have to worry about what you're going to eat when you're traveling with a man that can feed five thousand with five body enough do you I don't think you need to worry about what you're going to drink or what you're going to wear uh when when he can feed that with five barlows and two little fish or if the storm is Raging and he can just speak in the wind stopped if he could walk on the water I don't think you need to worry about that but I might say we don't have that bodily presence now but he's telling his disciples if you're going to be my Close Associates you're going to have to think of nothing else but following me and my righteousness and and then I'll take care of your knees and I will say this to us a great extent we need to not be overly concerned about greed and trying to lay on this storm that storm the other because the general thought of the paragraph is to warn the disciples against greed and excesses at the same time he was warning against worrying about the supply of their needs some folks they trouble themselves about uh what worry about what tomorrow is going to hold and what am I going to do and let worry overcome don't do that put that in the hands of the Lord now that don't mean that you're sat down and don't try to work now let me show you something and First Corinthians 9 and 7 it says who goeth a Warfare at any time at his own charge now you don't go to Warfare and buy your own ammunition buy your own uniforms and if you're gonna you you there's a higher power that's going to furnish you with what you need and let me tell you this we are in a Warfare with the Lord or for the Lord and he is going to supply everything that we need to serve him and to win souls and we don't have to worry about it we have ample scripture warning against greed Luke 8 14 it says and that and that's what's fell among Thorns are they which when they heard go forth and choke and are joked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life and and bring to fruit and bring no fruit to Perfection now Jesus is telling about folks that the seed has been planted and it comes up and is giving a an example and the Thorns which is the cares of life and the deceitfulness of riches it chokes them in because he's more interested in getting rich he's more interested in things than he is the kingdom of God and it chokes the word and he becomes unfruitful so this is what he's talking about you and I need to keep in View and keep Envision obeying him in the kingdom of God and not let the cares of this life choke you that you worry so much about money money money I had a friend I knew many years ago and as a matter of fact he even preached some and later on he uh he got into uh the the world he wrote a song There was a hit song in Nashville and he got to making some big money and he had a office in a high-rise building in Atlanta Georgia and one day Bobby and I were in that area and and he wanted to see us and as a matter of fact the same man uh one night we were on the the bus and His Cadillac passed us and he got on the back windows those days of the CB radios were all to go and he wanted to know if Billy McCool was on that bus and I I guess it's probably the last time I spoke to him he passed away he said but on this occasion we went up to his office and he opened his desk drawer and he'd been up in Canada and made made some show dates and he took out a lot of money I don't know how much it was but he looked over his desk and shook that big water money in our face and he said boys I would give every bit of this right here if I could be back like I was back under when I used to come to church with you too when we'd go to church together he said I wouldn't give every but he said I've gone too far I can't stop now let me tell you something I've never been able to shake a big water money in somebody's face but I want you to I wouldn't trade my life with that of the richest man on planet Earth I've got the baptism of the Holy Ghost my name's been written down in the book of life and I'm not worried about money I'm not worried about those things because I'm seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness Give the Lord a handclap [Applause] let's go on where was I the Thorns that choked the cares of enriches and pleasures of this life and it brought no fruit Luke 21 34 says and takes heed to yourselves lest at any time your heart be overcharged with serpenting now that word surfing means in excess if one thing to enjoy the normal lifestyle and accept when you're blessed with riches or whatever it is that's all right but when you become obsessed with this of excessive you've got to have more and more and more the the the the rich farmer and Jesus story this the Bible said that the the land of a certain uh man brought forth plentifully and it didn't have enough room for the grain to be stored up and they said I know what I'll do I'll tear down these old Barns and I'll build greater Barns and I'll store all my goods and I'll say to my soul so take thine ease thou as much lit up in store for many years and God said thou full this night thy Soul shall be required of then that who shall be the things you have stored up now it's one thing for God to bless you but it's something else it's for you to receive riches but it's something that's what riches grabs you and that you're possessed with excessive keep that in mind he's talking about serpenting that's excessive and drunkenness cares of this life and so the day come upon us unaware in Philippians 4 and 6 Paul writing he said be careful for nothing now he means be careful don't be apprehensive don't be anxious uh that this is that's going you're going to lose this you're going to worry about things be careful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with Thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God let me say something it's in the lesson we'll get to it in a little bit God watches over the sparrow he watches over the lily of the field and he said you're more important than these animals don't you know that your heavenly father is going to watch out for you if you'll just live a normal life and put your life in the hands of God he didn't say not to seek this but said seek ye first if it says seek first there's something that comes second but he will not take second place Jesus is going to be Lord of all or he will not be Lord at all he's got to be number one in your life now that if he blesses you with riches thank God for it all right but he must be number one in your life seek ye first seek ye first seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you now we have ample scripture instructing us to be frugal to work and earn an honest living and let me show you what I'm talking about First Timothy 5 and 8. but of any provide not for his own and especially for those of his own house he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel now this does not contradict what Jesus said Jesus was speaking concerning excessive we just gave you the meaning of that word excesses but if any provides not for his own and especially for those of his own house he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel now uh years ago even in the Tent Revival there was a man came to the Lord and he was really in love with the Lord but I went by where he lived one day and he was sitting there and I stopped to see him and I asked him well you're not at work today he said no I quit my job I said you did I said yes he was a truck driver he drove a truck for Sears and around around town he said those men over there where I worked said they they're Sinners and they use bad language and they tell dirty jokes and I I decided to quit that job and I'm going to sit home and I'm going to read my Bible well that's good to read your Bible but it wasn't very long after that thought it called me up and he said brother Nicole the finance companies repossessed my car I said they did yes I said yes and I quit my job I said I didn't have the money to pay my payments well one of the bad things about that I'd loaned him was spare tire I wasn't I wasn't in on the retiring from work but they they'd repossessed his car he admission now remember the scripture we said uh Paul said rightly dividing the word understanding you can I've had a few people in my lifetime that have thought they could just stop and God's just going to rain Mana down from heaven well that's not what he's talking about at all the second Thessalonians 3 10. where even when we were with you this we commanded you that if thou would not work neither should he eat now he's not contradicting what Jesus said but he's putting it in proper perspective excesses now he said if you don't a person that just sits down I'm gonna just sit down and I'm going to read my Bible and I'm going to pray and I'm not well look out you're going to have house payments and you're going to have obligations and he said if you don't work he said neither shall you eat Romans 12 11 and 12. he said not slothful and not Soulful in business fervent in spirit serving the lord rejoicing in Hope patient and tribulation continuing instant in prayer all right putting things in proper perspective now we read the scripture in the beginning when it said rightly dividing the word of Truth Jesus is talking to his closest disciples and they're going to be with him and literally and and when when they said uh there's a multitude out there and then when Sabbath said the Lord uh these people are hungry you need to dismiss them and let them go to The Villages and buy them something to eat and Jesus said they need not depart give ye them to eat I said what do you have said we don't have anything saved a body Loaf and there's a little lad here it's got two little fishes evidently his mother fixed him a lunch basket and Jesus said to him bring him to me and brought that lad to Jesus and Jesus said make them make the man sit down and they sit down and Rose and 500 500 and find out there's five thousand and Jesus Took the bread and the fishes and began to break it and have been the grill in his hands and he took they can give it to the disciples and the disciples to all the multitude and when all of them had eaten to the fill that came back to Jesus and said everybody's eating it nobody's hungry everybody's eating he said gather up the fragments and nothing be left now can you imagine five thousand five little lows two little fish well now if you're with Jesus and and you're His companion he can do that I don't know anybody that can do that nowadays uh around we we we're preparing certain time we either uh smell food cooking on the stove or are we hunting for a McDonald's or a Cheddar's or something a Cracker Barrel but this is rightly dividing the word of Truth a person can be it was sincere as can be but if you don't listen to teaching and and and and you get the idea and I'm gonna do this I knew a lady one time that that said that she read the scripture that said whosoever believeth on me shall never die and she thought she would never die and she declared she would never die but she did and that she misunderstood the scripture when it said he that believed on me we'll never die spiritually we're going to live on when this whole body breathes its last breath I'm to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord but if you don't understand and rightly divide the word of Truth are you understanding what I'm saying all right he said don't be slothful in business be a good business person be perfect in spirit and just be be on fire for God serve the Lord it said not slope of them is pervertent in the spirit serving the lord and rejoicing in Hope patient and tribulation continuing instant in prayer now this is what God wants us to do now listen to this Proverbs 6 6 through 11. go to the ant thou Slugger consider her ways and be wise which have no guide overseer or ruler provided her meat in the summer and gathers her food in the Harvest how long will thy sleep o Slugger when will thou rise out of thy sleep yet a little sleep a little Slumber a little folding in the hands to sleep so shall thy poverty come as one that travadeth and lay and by what as an Airman as being somebody come in and hold you up with a gun so if you think I'm teaching tonight that you can just take uh no word don't don't don't work on the job don't try to make a living that's not what Jesus is teaching at all the apostles come along and it tells us how to be frugal and how to be industrious how to be a hard worker and to provide for and he said if you don't provide for your own house you've denied the faith and worse than an infidel all right said then so shall your poverty come now back to Matthew Jesus is giving us an example of how he takes care of his creatures and the plants of his Earth he said in verse 26 of chapter six behold the fowls of the air for they so not neither do they reap nor gather into barns yet your heavenly father feedeth them and are not much but are you not much better than they now indeed he's telling the truth but I'll tell you what they will do uh out on our back porch there's a there's a night light there's a lot you can flip on if you need that light on the outside and for I don't know how many years we'll start noticing straws start me and next thing you know there was a nest out there on top of that between the the light and the house and the and before you know it you look and there was a little Sparrow out there was a robin I guess it was Robin and the next thing you know there was little eggs in that nest and the next thing you know there's little heads sticking up chirping and and they were and that mother Robin would go out and here she become they would ever want to have the little mouth over and she would be dropping worms and food in the mouth and she'd go back and she'd come back you need to go out now they don't work and one says the word they don't but in another sense he put a nature in them to provide for their offsprings now Proverbs said go to the End by slaughtered and said they don't they don't have a boss they don't have anybody to tell them to go to work but should they prepare their food and they're prepared for the winter time right now little rabbits and squirrels are running all over the place and and you just watching just a few more weeks a father's gonna set in and there they have a nature built in them God's put an innate in nature in them that they'll be picking up stuff and they've they're stronger here and there storing that because winter is coming and they've got a nature no they don't go and punch a Time Clock they don't get paid but they are taking care of their own and this is one of the Bible said if you don't provide for your household you have denied the faith and worse than an Infidel so if you think what we're teaching is sit down the door that's that's your misunderstanding all right behold the fowls of the air for they so not neither do they reap nor gather into barns yet your heavenly father feedeth them are ye not much better than they which of You by taking thought can add one cubit unto your stature now um I used to say I was five foot six and I got the man I must have shrunk a little bit I'm five foot five and a half something like that I don't care how much I pray I don't care how much I'm fast I don't care how much I seek God's face he's not going to make me as tall as brother hammer he but furthermore I brother Hammer King shrink I have trouble finding a size seven shoe and brother Hamer has trouble finding a size 14 or whatever I've known what's out of there brother my mom said God makes us what we are I can't he says by giving thought now Cubit is about 22 inches from the tip of your longest finger to your elbow a normal sized man is what they call a cubity he said by taking thought which of you can add a cubic to your height I can't do it nobody can do it because God made us what we are now then if you cannot do that can you not trust God who made you as you are behold the fowls of the air for they so not neither do they reap nor Gather in the barns yet your heavenly father feedeth them are ye not much better than they which of You by taking thought can add one cubit to your stature and why take ye thought for Raymond consider the livings of the field how'd that grow they toil not neither do they spin again Jesus speaking in excessive take thought for Raymond now he's talking about excesses he wasn't telling you not to worry about putting on anything and I don't even prove that to you in first Timothy 2 and 9 and like manner also that women Adorn themselves in modest apparel with shame faceness and sobriety not with Broad and hair or gold or Peril uh or pearls or costly arraigned now he's talking about going to the excesses of trying to be impressive to somebody and first Peter 3 and 3 through 5 who's adorning let it not be outward adorning plaiting the hair and the wearing of gold or putting on apparel he is not teaching against putting on apparel well certainly not but it's talking about those who are going to the excesses he's not teaching against planting your hair he's teaching against somebody fixing the hair in an outlandish way to try to be something special I'll just let that slip on by but let it be the hidden man of the heart and that which is not corruptable even the ornament of a mate and quiet Spirit which is in the sight of God of great price one comedian said these fellas are having their niches and their name uh put in their hair he said what they're doing they won't unfortunately know who they're laughing at and well I don't know that's the case but uh anywhere to just be outlandish modest is not going to extremes now if I came out here wearing a a white robe like they did in Bible days in the day in which we're living it would not be modest apparel there's nothing wrong at all with worrying overalls none of I wore them I preached my first sermon wearing a pair of overalls but today if I came out here in a brand new pair of overalls for our old parallel world it would not be in indicative of of the way I would think that a preacher should dress not that it would be a models other than it would be a spectacular it would be calling attention to myself I don't want to do that I don't want to call attention but let it be the hidden man of the heart for after this manner in Old Times the holy women also who trusted in God adorned themselves being some in subjection to their own husbands now verse 29 of our lesson and yet I send you that even Solomon and All His glory was not arrayed like one of these wherefore if God so called the grass of the field which today is and tomorrow is cast in the heaven shall he not much more clothe you owe you of little faith of taking the time I've set for myself would you stand your feet with me please after these the Gentiles see for your heavenly father knoweth what you have need of all these things but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you and everybody's amen father we thank you for your blessings we thank you for the word of God father I pray that you will give us a heart to seek first the kingdom of God everything else Lord must take second place in my life I must think of what you want out of me and I want to do the will of God help me to be able to do so unless your people as they hear the word of the Lord may we take it to heart and put it to you see Jesus name we pray amen it's 8 45 and that's the time I've set to run something you're dismissed in Jesus name you're dismissed In The Name Of The Lord
