Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Anointed in the Midst of His Brethren

  • The lesson opens at 1 Samuel 16: Samuel takes the horn of oil and anoints David in the midst of his brethren, and the Spirit of the Lord comes upon David from that day forward, while the Spirit departs from Saul and an evil spirit troubles him.
  • The teacher stresses the day itself: from the day of the anointing David was king, though no one around him recognized it yet.
  • He warns that when the Spirit of God leaves a life, an evil spirit moves in, and people who once served God begin looking for opportunities to criticize and be offended.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 16:13-14

A Cunning Player on the Harp

  • Saul's servants advise him to seek out a man who is a cunning player on the harp, and one of them describes the son of Jesse the Bethlehemite as cunning in playing, a mighty valiant man, a man of war, prudent in matters, comely, and with the Lord with him.
  • Jesse sends David to Saul with bread, wine, and a kid; David stands before Saul, is loved greatly by him, and becomes his armor bearer.
  • The teacher's point: the one they thought was just a little harp player, a little red-faced shepherd boy, was in fact the king of Israel standing before Saul.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 16:15-21

The Years Between the Anointing and the Recognition

  • Walking the chapter headings, the teacher traces what David had to endure after the anointing: Saul's jealousy and attempts on his life, the flight to Samuel, taking bread and Goliath's sword, and feigning madness at Gath.
  • At the cave he escaped to, the distressed, the indebted, and the discontented gather to David — about four hundred men — and he becomes captain over them; he also places his father and mother in the care of the king of Moab until he knows what God will do for him.
  • He illustrates the unrecognized worth of a life the Master's hand has touched with the story of the old violin whose value changed at the touch of a master's hand.
  • After seven years David inquires of the Lord, asking whether he shall go up into any of the cities of Judah, and goes up as the Lord directs (2 Samuel 2): God may have a work for a person, but they must be willing to wait for the appointed time and go through the training process.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 22:1-2; 1 Samuel 22:3; 2 Samuel 2:1

Get Me a Minstrel

  • Retelling 2 Kings 3, he notes that Elisha, asked for a word from God by the kings, first calls for a minstrel, and the hand of the Lord comes upon him as the minstrel plays, before the valley is filled with ditches of water.
  • His application is to the musicians: choir members, praise singers, and worship leaders are a valuable tool in the work of God, not a passing thing, for their playing opens the way for the Spirit to move.

Thou Comest to Me with a Sword

  • At 1 Samuel 17:45 David answers the Philistine: 'Thou comest to me with a sword... but I come to you in the name of the Lord God of Israel', confident that the God who delivered him from the lion and the bear will deliver the Philistine into his hand.
  • David refuses Saul's armor, saying he has not proved it, and fights with what he has practiced — the harp and the slingshot; the teacher urges every worker to practice whatever instrument or gift they bring before the congregation.
  • He closes by applying the story to the Goliaths in the hearers' lives: the world may never recognize who the church is, but the Bible says God has made his people kings and priests, and the anointing makes the difference.

my goodness that was the weakest praise the Lord I ever heard in my life praise the Lord everyone oh now that's better you may have redeemed yourself but that first one I don't believe I've ever heard one so weak and here we have got the visitors here tonight and we're so glad to see each one of you here and of course we're here tonight to study the word of the Lord do you love him tonight do you love the word of God all right we're so glad to have brother Chester with us brother brother Chester's pastor of the church um actually I had the privilege of dedicating many years ago it was called it wasn't called Keystone Apostolic it's called elk two mile back then and since then they've experienced a landslide a literal landslide that actually level their their Church and it was a quite a disaster and they are in the process of building a new building and that was the Church of originally was pastored by Brother Lewis Harris father and then brother Lewis Herald and um sister McCool and I when we went up to have service with them after the landslide I thought of a song that brother Hera wrote he said I can shout hallelujah anyhow and one of the verses of that song says when I face the disaster there's nothing left to fear and I can shout hallelujah anyhow so brother Chester and the folks there are shouting Hallelujah anyhow and tonight our Bible study is probably probably one of the most preached and story told and all the Bible if not the very first one is very close to the top in popularity and that is David and Goliath songs have been written children's songs and we've talked about little David and the and Goliath and we've heard the story so many times but it's it's still the truth and I when I go into a message like this I I think about the little story Bishop pain used to tell and the little boy that took an orange to school to his teacher and only his way to school he got squeezing that orange and he got to thinking about how delicious he stuck his finger and he got a little hole in it thought it wouldn't hurt to take a a sip or two of that and by the time he got to School hit pretty well ravaged that orange but it didn't want to disappoint the teacher so he took it up and he said teacher here's this orange said it's been squalls a whole lot but said they're still a little good in it so the story of David Goliath has been squaws a whole lot but there's still some good in it and tonight I'm going to go into the some background before we actually get into the story of David and Goliath because there's some uh chapters in here that we need to be considering and I want to bring to your attention tonight but we're going to start in first Samuel 16. verse 13. then Samuel took the Horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his Brethren and the spirit of the Lord Came Upon David from the day from that day forward so Samuel rose up and went to Rhema and the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him now our last study on the first study of this series we talked about uh David being overlooked from Saul when Sammy went down to the house of Jesse and twice he had the sons of Jesse to pass by and God did not anoint any one of the seven even though they passed by twice and finally Samuel said are here all thy children said well I've got one more but said you know he's the kid he's out there in the field taking care of the sheep and uh and God said to send and get him and Samuel said sin and fetch him for we'll not sit down till he comes hither and then you know the story how the God said this is this is the man Samuel took the Horn of all and anointed him in the midst of his brethren and the spirit of the Lord Came Upon David from that day forward now what I want you to keep in mind tonight is from that day forward David was King I said Dave when God anointed him King he became king that day and from that day forward the spirit of God Came Upon David and the spirit of God left Saul and an evil spirit from the Lord Came Upon Saul Now I want to tell you something the Bible speaks of when the evil spirit goes out of a man and walks in dry places he comes back and finds the house wept and garnish and he brings seven spirits with him worse than himself and the last state of the man is worse than the first now when you've had the spirit of God in you and you allow that to escape or you do anything for it to to flee uh the evil spirit is going to come into you folks who once were on fire for God once served God once for faithful to the church faithful to the work of God and and we use that term faithful to the church Loosely we're talking about faithful to the Church of God faithful to God himself and then when folks begin to slip from that and when they back off from that there is usually a spirit of um of criticism a spirit of antagonism and an evil spirit will will come in the Bible spoke about the prodigal son when he made that transition with his father the Bible said uh from that day uh he he began to do some packing not many days after he uh packed everything they he started Gathering things Judas when he sold the Lord for 30 pieces of silver the Bible said from that time on he sought opportunity he was he had already made the deal the transaction had been made but he was waiting for the opportunity to deliver the goods and from that time on after he had agreed with the high priest the Bible said he sought opportunity it's a bad thing ladies and gentlemen when people go to church and they look for an opportunity to criticize then look for a chance to get their feelings heard look for a chance for somebody to mistreat them and what they're doing they're betraying the greatest thing that was ever in this world and that's Christ himself that lives in you the Bible speaks of Christ in you the hope of glory now as the spirit of God Came Upon David it left Saul and an evil spirit Came Upon Saul Now keep this in mind David what is David now he's King he's already been anointed but something else is going to take place and Saul's server said to him be whole now an evil spirit from God troubled Thief let our Lord small L that's meaning Saul let our Lord Now command thy servants which are before thee to seek out a man who is a cunning player on the harp and succumb to pass when the evil spirits from God is upon thee that he shall play with his hands and thou shalt be well and Saul said unto his servants provide me now a man that can play well and bring him to me and then answer one of the servants and said behold I have seen a son of Jesse the bethlehemite that is cunning and playing and a mighty Valiant man and a man of war and prudent in matters and a calmly person a good looking person is what it's meaning and the Lord is with him and when Saul sent Messengers to Jesse and said send me David thy son which is with the sheep and Jesse took an ass Laden with bread and a bottle of wine and a kid and sent them by David his son unto Saul and David came to Saul and stood before him and he loved him greatly and he became his armor Bearer now Saul's got an evil spirit in him and uh they don't know what to do about it and somebody said what you need to do is you need to get somebody that can play a harp well that'll be soothing someone that's got the spirit of the Lord at him and let him and he's got to be cunning got to be skillful and and and he found a man who who was calmly that was a good looking the Bible said that David was ready which has been a reddish complexion and a very good looking young man hear this I think the common tears probably put him about 17 years old here this kid comes in the presence of Saul with a harp who is before Saul a little runny red face Shepherd boy no you know who was coming before Saul the king of Israel he wasn't the shepherd boy now he was a Shepherd boy all right but even though he was busy taking care of his dad's sheep he had already been anointed king now I want to leave this with you tonight sometimes God has a work for us to do and we are anointed to do it but we can't wait until the time of activity begins we can't wait till we're recognized for who we really are he had been now I studied this carefully and I'll be I'm going to really I'm going to read some headings of some chapters it was seven years after saw after David had been anointed king it was seven years before he actually became king in the eyes of the people and in these seven years well while I've already got started on let me let me let me tell you a little bit about something and I'm I'm just looking in my Thompson Chain Bible and I'm gonna I'm gonna just quickly scan over the headings of some of the chapters now he's anointed in chapter 16 of first Samuel chapter 17 the Israelites and the Philistines being ready to battle Goliath challenges combat David accepts The Challenge and slays him Saul takes notice of David then in chapter 18 Jonathan loves David Saul issues his praise and seeks to kill him in his Fury now he's already been anointed king but now then he's becoming a a wanted man Saul is wanting to kill him and he seeks to kill him in his Fury he offers him his daughter or a snare not a loved one but he got the most contrary most honorary girl he had and gave her to David because he thought she would cause him to backslide she if anybody could wreck his love this daughter of mine he knew her now his King but now then Saul is giving him the most honored girl he's got because he wants her to cause him to fall I want to tell you something God may have a work for you to do but the devil is going to put everything he can in your way to wreck your life to wreck your ministry to wreck your gift and you need to be alert and aware of this somebody say Amen Jonathan discloses his father's purpose to kill David this is his chapter 19. he persuades his father to reconciliation Saul's malicious rage breaks out against David David pleased to Samuel now who are we talking about fleeing who are we talking about that's on the Run uh a a a lack of a a whip dog somebody that that's right no we're talking about a king that's already been anointed but these there's some things he's got to go through and be patient and be faithful until the time comes that God actually sets him up so many times God has a work for us to do we can't wait for the appointed time and we are unwilling to go through the training process I remember a sermon I heard Brother David mail many years ago preached he was in the uh Army and he was in the uh the battle at Normandy and he said in his uh uh training days they gave him a little short shovel about that lung and he had hung on his belt and he said that was the most aggravating thing he ever had said ever when he marched every step it took it it popped him on the leg and so he was and he said he never used it it was he was so disgusted why can't I throw this thing away but when they hit the beach head at Normandy the shelves started going overhead that battle broke out men was falling on every side and that shovel became his Lifesaver as he dug in the sand and dug him a hole he said that was the most valuable thing he had it was more valuable than his than his rifled he didn't realize how what a valuable tool it was going to be some of the things that annoy you right now may be the most valuable thing that is in your arsenal of weapons when the time comes you've already been anointed you've already been called you know God's going to work for you to do it but when is it going to let you do it well there's some things that you may have to wait on before you do it well let's go on now I'm just reading the headings of these these chapters and then chapter 21 David at knob takes out a little bread and goliathsword at gath he feigns himself mad he finds himself without weapons he finds himself helpless what am I going to do I have no sword can't do anything about it what's going to do he started letting the spittle run down his cheek and in his spirit and he started clawing at the wall and started acting like a crazy man pastors have you ever ate food that you really didn't like but you tried to pretend like you did have you ever acted like you was interested in something that you really were not but you didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings have you ever acted a fool for somebody's kid just so you want to make a good impression on the Paris go ahead and smile a little bit I've tried to eat fish before so I finally got brave enough to get ahead of everybody and tell everybody I don't like dumplings and I don't like fish and I tell that ahead of time so they don't embarrass everybody wants me to like their fish and they tell me brother you've never eat any fish my fish tastes just like chicken that's great I said give me some chicken and um oh that that that that that that beautiful purplish greenish uh too wide tire that you bought me for Christmas oh it's a that's something do you like oh that is something else David had to feign himself as a Madman now remember this it was Jude that said and winning souls he said making a difference I'll do one thing for this family and I'll do something else for that one I'm trying to win souls this fellow that likes to hunt and fish I'll talk about hunting fishing and this fell over here that don't like anything but but uh beautiful pictures and art and so forth I'll talk because Paul said I'm all things so all men that I may win now who are we talking about we're talking about the king of Israel with spittle running down his beard and he's acting crazy like a madman because the occasion required it now Brethren of course I don't have to tell you preachers in this audience this because we've all experienced and I might be uh kind of you may think I'm exaggerating but uh I'm talking about his actions did not portray the action of a king but it was one he had already been anointed Heaven recognized him as a king of Israel God recognized him as the king of Israel Saul David and the other people didn't know it but God said thus my king there the spirit of running down his beard that's my king that's clawing at the wall that's my king that's that's a king of Israel he's already been anointed been coronated just has a I'm putting him through some things right now that's gonna make him a great king well let's go to the chapter 22. David's friends resort to him at a doulam David therefore departed fence and escaped to the cave of doula and when his Brethren and all his father's house heard it they went down thither to him now he gathers together and the elite you know we have we've got the the Green Berets and we've got the what do they call them the the we've got Special Forces uh one of the the frogs or whatever they call the special name because they got to take our whatever you you whatever you said I'll accept that I didn't understand God I believe you so he's got his Elite Army he's got his Green Berets he's got his special troops and here's the way the Bible describes them and everyone that was in distress and everyone that was in debt and everyone that was discontented gathered themselves unto him and he became the captain over them and there were with him 400 men man alive you talk about a vigilante crowd running with this uh a wild man this man that acted like a crazy man and his his Elite Army is a bunch of discontented in debt ornery characters whose picture hangs in the post office and says Most Wanted and yet that was his army and he was their captain he was the they just didn't know it yet he had already he had already let me tell you something this world may not recognize you for who you are and what you are but God has already got his hand on you we're going to get to David and Goliath later on but there's a lot of things that's going to take place between your anointing and between your glorification um what did the little poem say that for battered and torn of the auctioneer thought it scarcely worth his while to waste much time on the Old Violin but he held it up with a smile and they said what have I been for the Old Violin he cried who will start the bidding for me a dollar two who make it only two who'll make it three three dollars three dollars once three dollars twice going for three but no from the back of the room a gray-haired man come forward and he picked up the bow he brushed the dust from the Old Violin and tightening the loose and strings he played a Melody pure and sweet as sweet as the Caroling Angels Sing the music ceased and the auctioneer The Voice soft and lost said what am I bid for the Old Violin as he held it up with the bow thousand dollars we'll make a dude two thousand dollars we'll make it three three thousand dollars three thousand ones three thousand twice going and gone said hey the people cheered but some of them cried we do not quite understand what changed it's worth quick came the reply the touch of a Master's Hand many a man with life Out Of Tune better than scarred by sin is auctioned cheap by thoughtless crab much like the Old Violin a missile bodies a glass of wine a game and he travels on going once going twice going and almost gone but then comes the master and the foolish crowd cannot quite understand the worth of a soul the change that is wrought by the touch of the Master's Hand the world can't understand the value of the hand of God being on someone there are those that have come through our mess who have been lobed and drunk has been alcoholics been drug addicts been large been dead beats been wife beaters been disobedient and unfaithful to husband or wife but for the master puts the anointing on them there's going to be a change that's going to take place oh given on the handicap would you please [Applause] the king of Israel David went thence to the king of Moab and he said unto the king of Moab let my father and my mother I pray thee come forth and be with you till I know that God what God will do for me well that was everything but a child of God he was the very opposite of everything that but Saul had become so corrupt and so determined to destroy David David took his own family and put them in the care of the king of Moab we do a lot of things under severe circumstances but he was the king of Israel he was anointed he was the head of a Rogues Gallery Army but he was God's man he had never been recognized for what he was he even had to put his own mom and dad and family in the care of Moab a wicked King for safekeeping because a man that had lost out what God was too dangerous to be around let me tell you something you better stay on fire for God will live for God you don't know how Wicked you can become when you leave god well let me go on then they told David saying behold the Philistines fight again now we're going to get get something else here that's that's real important uh and we'll we'll we'll go on with this and unless I uh give you more than what I want to I'm going to go to the book of second Samuel we're skipping over seven years now Saul took 3 000 of his best soldiers and Chase David the Bible said on the rocks of the wild goats can you imagine the the the the recognized King Saul took three thousand of his best soldiers and chased David onto the rocks of the wild goats And yet when Saul lay asleep David walked up to his side and kept the skirt of His Garment off took his picture of water and got a good distance from him so look at this and he even apologized and felt he did wrong by cutting the Garment off because he still recognized Saul as anointed of God but God's anointed had left Saul long before but this was the well they said seven years later in second Samuel chapter 2 and it came to pass after this that David inquired of the Lord saying shall I go into the house of the city of Judah and the Lord said unto him go up and David said where the shall I go up and he said unto Hebrew now in the second chapter is where David was recognized as the king of Israel God's Al Judah God's hand was upon him but he had to wait this period of time now my point to us tonight is we oftentimes can't wait on God to do what God wants to do for us but now a couple of things I want to point out in the story there's a there's a whole lot in this whole episode that I want us to recognize and going back now to tell you something else they said you need somebody that that that's in touch with the Lord that can play a a good Hymn for it and they brought David who he thought were just a little heart player but he played in the evil spirits left him and the spirit of God Came Upon Saul and the thing now I I put this in my lesson tonight for a reason music worship leaders is very important in the work of God now I remembered something that took place of in the second Kings the third chapter uh jeho RAM the son of Ahab he began to Reign Over Israel in the Samaria the 18th year of jehoshaphat's king of Judah Reign and Moab was a servant when he rebelled against him and he went to he went to uh to Jehoshaphat and said will you help me we got we got to put him down so they joined forces and and the king of Edom joined three kings there was ahab's son and there was Jehoshaphat and there was the the king of Edom and they were going up against Moab who had rebelled uh I guess ahab's a son Jerome now the Bible said they went to a a compass in the wilderness of Edom and they were going in circles and they were lost they had their cattle with them and they had no water and they'd run out of water they were dying of thirst their cattle was uh dying of thirst and they they needed they needed something and some somebody said don't don't we have a don't we have a man of God is there not somebody here that that can get in touch with God and tell us what we're to do next and somebody spoke up and said well I and there's a man here by the name of Elisha said uh don't know much about him said he used to pour water on the hands of Elijah now that was his credentials that that was his highlight of accomplishment they said he poured a hand poured water on the hands of Elijah they said well he must be in touch with God if he was faithful enough to pull water on the hands of Elijah go get him and they sit and got him Elisha and Elisha said to Jerome uh the the son of Ahab he said what makes you think I would even look at you and he gave him a dress and done he said if it wasn't for Jehoshaphat I wouldn't even talk to you he said why don't you go to your daddy's gone and he gave him a good rebuking but he turned to Jehoshaphat and said because of you I'm going to get in touch with God but you know what else you said he said can you get me somebody that can play me get me a menstrual get me a menstrual the man of God Elisha who was who was given the task of seeing a miraculous provision of water for a huge crowd of soldiers and Cattle what he needed he needed some praise hangers he needed some musicians he needed and they brought a musician and he began to play for Elisha and the spirit of the Lord came on him now listen to me you folks are sing in the choir you folks that are praise singers you folks as sang the spatial now and whatever you don't run in and think that this is just a a passing thing you are a valuable tool just like David was a king he'd been anointed but they didn't realize he was well did you realize what you are when you come into the house of God and you become a praise singer or sing in the choir or singing out there in your seat this is what opens up Heaven's windows and the spirit of God Came Upon Elisha and he said now then God said to dig the valley full edition dear God did the last thing we need is ditches the ground is dried it's powdery that we we sure don't need ditches he's a dig the valley full of ditches and they dug the valley full of ditches of the Sun every one of those ditches were filled to the brim now however deep they dug that ditch that's how much water they had anybody that was too lazy to dig very deep and very wide they didn't have that much but the valley was full of ditches and when the Army the mobites looked out there and the Sunshine it looked like the valley was full of blood it was all red and they said all they Israel's they fought each other and they've there they've heard it and they attacked and when they tried that Israel was ready the three armies that had come in and they slew the army of the the more bites okay my point is this do what God held you to do David was still King but he wasn't recognized as the king Elisha wanted somebody to and so this is what now then let me go into something else right quick all right we're going to get into tonight's lesson we've got about 10 minutes David and Goliath first Samuel 17 45 then said David to the Philistine thou cometh to me with a sword now battle were broke out and uh there was a giant of a man some say nine feet tall and some words thereabouts and he came out twice a day and he bellowed across the valley and said send me a man no need for everybody if I send me a man that we may fight together and if uh he kills me you'll be our servants if I kill him you'll be our servants and the battle stopped right there in the meantime there was a farmer oh tender of sheep had a little boy taking care of sheep and by the way that little boy had already been anointed as king they didn't know it yet but he said Little David little King go take this food to your brothers see how they're doing so when David came into the army it was a standstill he was expecting swords to be flashing and and uh screaming and horror music expected excitement but when it got there nothing was taking place and David said what's going on what's going on and they said every day there's a man that comes out and said he's a nine feet tall and and said that nobody's able to go fight him and and David looked around and said what about Sharma well what about a minute what about Saul he's he he's a head and shoulders taller than anybody in those days the king went out with the armies to battle what about and Saul was cowered in his tit nobody was able to go fight David said I'll fight him I'll let me find him and David's brother got very walked with him and said we know the naughtiest of your heart and wait a minute shama wait a minute have been dab you're not talking to a kid brother you're talking to the king of Israel you just don't know it you you think you're rebuking little brother but he's already been anointed you don't you don't realize you were refused you you were not but your little brother is actually the king of Israel and they call such a bus he and of course and they even threw up his his job to him said with whom left thou those few sheep in the wilderness now this was nothing more but just to belittle David to make fun of him with whom lift out those few sheep in the wilderness you little old Shepherd boy you you little runt you little old enough you're you're just want a little excitement David said I left the Sheep with a keeper I come to stay a while I came I came to see what was going on and they said what what did you say was going to be done to the man that would fight oh he's going to be made tax free he's going to be put chain around his neck he's going to be giving the King's Daughter a none he said let me invite it and it caused such a fuss the word got to Saul in his tent and and Saul said bring that man to me no doubt Saul was expecting great being too fisting broadened children a rough talking squares shoulders and square chin a tough dude but when he came in it was this little old 17 year old red face Fair complexion he sure is cutie sweetie [Music] no he may be a little kid to you but you're looking at the king of Israel you're looking at the king of Israel and Saul said Son you're just a boy and he's a he's a Warrior from his youth up said you can't go fight him David said sir I was taking care of my father's sheep said a bear and a lion came out and got it and said the spirit of the Lord came to me and said I went and I got him by the beard he said he rose up again and I slew him the bear and the lion and he said the same God that delivered the line of the baron of my hands will deliver unto me that uncircumcised philistine now you big talking squirts no you're talking about the anointed king of Israel you're talking about a king that's disguised in a kid's body he's God's man he's already been anointed and God's just given him time to get the experience he needs to be the king and of course Saul said son I think I'll let you do that what's it here I'm gonna I'm gonna let you wear my helmet my boots and my armor and of course when he put that on and it was so four sizes too big on his head and the sword that hung on his side drugged the ground and and and David took the sword and he tried to maneuver he said sir I haven't proven this that's I don't know how to use a sword I don't know how to use a sword and he said I've got what I'm used to using see he had spent time doing two things very important besides taking care of the sheep one was practicing on his harp and the other was practicing with his slingshot uh now I've got a reputation I've got to live down or on up to I was going out of the hospital years ago and fell in the in the booth there taking money I said boy he said you're the man that took my tambourine aren't you well and everybody sins and thinks I'm against tambourines but I'm not but what happened would have churches in the choir would practice and the music would practice them and this fellow brought his tambourine in and he couldn't play it all that good himself but he wound up handing it to a kid there and the little kids sit there and he he played that be right and he was messing up the choir and so there was a little bit of a lull and the kid laid that uh tampering down then the platform was really close and when it I reached and I grabbed that tambourine and I took and put it under my seat he never did get it back and I've got the repetition of being against Cambridge no I'm just against folks that don't practice to play whatever they're trying to play and that's that's the real truth of it uh if you play a guitar or bass or whatever practice before you get up before the crowd now that's sideline back to my back to my lesson David knew how to play the Harford harp and they knew how to shoot a slingshot and it said I'll use what I'm used to so what I've had some experience with and he uh as they crossed over the brook he picked up five smooth stones and they put it in the sling and put one in his Shepherd's bag and of course when the giant saw him coming he got mad he said am I a dog you send a kid out here to fight me now wait a minute Goliath that's an old kid that's the king of Israel talking to you just don't know it you're talking to an a god-anointed man he's one day going to be recognized he don't raise don't recognize now but he will be one day oh son I'll I'm gonna and carry apart and feed your carcass to a thousand David said you come to me with a sword and shield but I come to you the name of the Lord God of Israel and says God's going to deliver you into my hands and said I'm going to kill you and he took that sling and he hit the Giant and the giant fell and David ran took the sword of the Giant cut his head off reach down and got that old bloody head by the ears takes it to Saul is this what you're looking for Saul and the armies of the Philistines began to run and the armies of Israel start everybody got Brave I mean the Army started running and Israel's Army boiled I've been adapt and shama and and David's brother they all got Brave and they started chasing the Philistines because God's man had come to the rescue would just stand to your feet with me please there are some goliaths in your life it might come in the form of financial problems it might come in the form of a unhappy neighbor make him in the form of a of a boss or it may come in the form of a of a worker it may come in the form of a unbelieving companion or a disobedient child there's some Goliath still out there let me tell you something the anointing of God should be on each one of us and he's going to direct our paths if we'll just let him do so now the world will never recognize you for who you are the world will never recognize the church for who it is because it's the bride of Christ and we're just waiting for his soon
