Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
First Shall Be Last
- The lesson backs up to the end of chapter 19: everyone that has forsaken houses, brethren, sisters, father, mother, wife, children, or lands for his name's sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit everlasting life.
- The bridge into the parable: many that are first shall be last, and the last shall be first.
Scriptures: Matthew 19:29-30
Laborers at Every Hour
- The householder hires the first company for an agreed penny a day, and sends later companies at the third, sixth, ninth, and eleventh hours on his word: whatsoever is right, I will give you.
- At evening the steward pays from the last unto the first, every man a penny, and the first company murmurs: these last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us.
- There is a lesson for the church in the agreement itself: even among brethren, settle what a thing costs and what will be paid, so misunderstanding does not follow the work.
Scriptures: Matthew 20:1-16
The Eleventh-Hour Boy
- The teacher tells his own story: from seven years old he sought at every altar, testifying that the Lord had saved and sanctified him and praying to receive the Holy Ghost.
- The night an elderly sister answered his testimony, "Yes, honey, and tonight," he prayed through — and his mischievous twin brother, at the altar for the first time, received the Holy Ghost the same night.
- His older brother later knelt at a chair in their home and was filled too; the lesson drawn is that God deals with the heart when it is ready, at the first hour or at the eleventh.
Jealousy Is the Rage of a Man
- Proverbs names it: jealousy is the rage of a man, therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
- Jealousy wrecks marriages, workplaces, and churches; he tells of a congregation that split over who got to play the piano in the rotation.
- The tongue is the untameable member God chose as the evidence of the Holy Ghost; in the flesh it must be guarded, or jealousy will speak through it.
Scriptures: Proverbs 6:34
Give Up on No One
- The householder's answer stands at the close: friend, I do thee no wrong; is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own — so the last shall be first, and the first last.
- We give up on no one: if the older brother pouts over the prodigal's welcome, we keep patience and love with him too, and thank God the Lord accepts those who come at the last hour.

praise the Lord everyone praise the lord we greet you tonight in that Wonderful Name of Jesus that high and holy name that is above every name aren't you glad you know that name tonight and um we want to thank the Lord for each one of you that's able to be here tonight it's a we've had an awful lot of folks on the road and we've also got an awful lot of sickness if you could Lower Lights that's in my eyes I'd like to see the congregation and I don't want it uh dark up here but I I do want it out of my eyes so I can see who I'm shooting who I'm preaching to tonight all right uh our technicians do a fantastic job and I appreciate I appreciate them so very much um that's a little bit better right there I can see you a little bit better all right thank you so very much thank you for being patient with me we have a great lesson tonight we are studying The Parables of Jesus and there are many parables that Jesus spoke which is a story that he gives that um is true to life and and there are sometime many meanings of them and Jesus even said uh the reason he did this there are some folks he he didn't want to know what he meant but to you it's given to know so there's a lot of folks out there in the world that's worldly minded that uh they don't understand the word of God and you've got to have a spiritual mind and look for the spiritual meaning to understand but uh it is uh it's so wonderful when you can study the word of God and analyze it IID like to look at each verse each line and and see what it's actually saying to us what it means to us and um this lesson tonight is going to entail uh an awful lot of human nature that each one of us you and I have dwelling in US that some things we've got to overcome other things we uh cradle and it's all right but there are many things the word of God tells us that we need to be on the lookout it's so valuable when you can understand how to handle some situations and Circumstance if you allow things to happen up on you uh you can be in a uh a bad mood you can not be feeling good or uh you could be they we used to have an old country saying maybe you've heard of you you got up on the wrong side of the bed and um just just simply and the weather has a lot to do with that uh the the change and the the the barometric pressure can have an effect on you you can be aching hurting feeling feeling bad and you can relate that or you can attach that over to the way you handle certain situations and then sometimes you handle them incorrectly and you look back and say if I had that to do over I I would I would change some things and husbands and wives need to understand this uh and and not let not let the circumstance and the situation of the moment control you because you you can you can sure get yourself in trouble by not understanding this and uh this needs to be understood in uh particularly in this Parable that we're going to be studying tonight it's uh found in the 20th chapter of Matthew and um it starts out by saying for the Kingdom of Heaven is liken unto a man that is a householder now right off Boom the very first word of this scripture tells me that there's something else that should go with it you know start of sentence was saying for unless there was something else before it so in order to get a clearer understanding we need to go back to chapter 19 and at least the last couple of verses to see what it says so let's go back to Matthew 19 and uh we'll go verse 29 and 30 now remember we're we're studying about the the the parable of the laborers in the vineyard and we are all we're all laborers in the vineyard and Matthew 19:29 starts out by saying and everyone that ha forsaken houses or Brethren or sisters our fathers or mother or wife or children or lands for my name's sake shall receive a h hundredfold and shall inherit everlasting life but many that are first shall be last and the last shall be first for the Kingdom of Heaven is like an un two now that's I'm connecting uh the 19th Chapter with the 20th chapter so he's already said in the 19th Chapter of Acts that everybody that's made a sacrifice for him for the kingdom of God he uses this illustration father mother wife children lands for my name's sake now um I don't think he's meaning that you and I are are supposed to uh for sake our children literally but if it would be so that you had to do that that it was forced upon you he said there's nobody that what is's actually saying is no matter what sacrifice you make in this life in the life to come you're going to get aund times more of whatever it was so you can put this down is a fantastic investment because whatever you do for the Lord you're going to be rewarded and he said if you have to forsake this this this and this you're going to get aund fold for it for then he goes into the excuse me the 20th uh chapter for the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a man that is a householder which one out early in the morning to hire laborers into his Vineyard now this uh this reminds me of a reality when uh we first started the church here in Knoxville in 1957 and 58 uh we didn't have a lot of workers but it was during what they call the aing how recession the whole country was going through a recession uh there you couldn't get work there there's no work much to be had and you could drive down uh on uh nor on South Central and there Jackson Avenue and there would be a crowd of men standing around and they were there waiting for somebody to come and offer them work for one day it it could be one day or however long but um to get Workers we didn't have as Pastor calls him his mighty men uh we we I would drive down to the Jackson Avenue there at the North Central and the railroads and and there would be a gang of men standing around and I would pull up and they would just rush the car and um uh what what are you needing well I'm needing uh two good men to work and all right so what what what you want us to do I said well we're going to be digging a footer for a church and they fell back from the car like it was hot they just and uh they said what do you pay I said well we we pay the minimum wage whatever was at that time and they did a little uh horse trading with me and I can't work for that I can't I can't dig Footers for that and I'd add a quarter to the or something but anyway I'd get two or three men get them in the car take them out to 123 West Columbia and I remember uh we had the uh the the foundation laid out I had a gentleman that spotted the corners and and we took a lime and and and or maybe it's just string anyway we had the footer of the church laid out and um I had to go somewhere and I left these fellas digging told them how wide it had to be and how deep it had to be and U after a while I came back to check on them and they had dug that that footer did a excellent job right up to a certain spot and then they just made an angle like that uh a a 45 degree angle and then another 45 and back in and I said wait a minute Brothers what what's going on here they said there's some old Springs buried there and we can't dig through them so we dug around them well of course if I left it that way that they've been humping the wall of that building I said no you can't do that yeah you're going to have to dig them up and and dig and so they went back cuz they were getting paid by the hour so they had they had to dig those Springs up and get get back with the line so there was a great lesson right there but this man in the Bible evidently uh he had uh grapes that were coming ripe and they were hanging ripe on the vine and he needed somebody and and he needed somebody bad now I know that for a fact and of course again this is a parable and I'm putting my my interpretation to this because uh the first men he sent out there he they want know what he's going to pay we'll we'll pay a penny a day well of course A Penny of that day was not the the the the the the smallest amount like we're talking about today but that was their agreement a penny a day so they agreed on that and they went on out the first hour of the day and according to the commentaries that was about 6:00 in the morning and then um about 9:00 in the morning the householder went back out and uh he found other men uh and when he had agreed with the labors for a penny a day he sent them into his Vineyard now look at the word they agree they both agreed for a penny a day and when he had agreed with the labors for a penny a day he sent them into his Vineyard and uh there's a song that we used to say Lord I'll go anywhere you want me to I'll do anything you want me to do if you'll only give me Grace Lord I'll go any place Lord I'll go anywhere you want me to a and so many times we tell the Lord Lord I'll do whatever you want me to do and that's before we know what he wants us to do because once he lets us know what we what he wants us to do it may not be what we had in mind but they agreed they agreed on the penny and they went out to work and went out about the third hour of the day and saw other men standing idle in the marketplace I believe the commentary said that was about 9:00 in the morning and he found other men standing idle and he said to them uh and he said to them go ye also into the vineyard and whatsoever is right I'll give you and they went their way he found others at 9:00 standing idle and and let me uh PR this just a little bit what hour of the day is it right now with us and are we standing idle are the things that we should be doing for the Lord we know we could be doing and yet we're standing idle somehow another they were not there at 6:00 to get paid but they showed up later on at at 9:00 and they were just standing idle and uh the owner of the vineyard the householder he sent them into the and said whatever is right we're going to going to pay you go ye also into the vineyard and whatsoever is right I'll give you and they went their way now we're deing we're we're touching on something right now that's going to come back to try our human nature and you and I need to give real not of this there's something developing in this story that affects every one of us from a child to the grave now they he said they didn't have an agreement on what they were going to get they just they he said whatever's right I'll pay you and there's a reason this Parable went this way but there's also uh a truth that needs to be thrown in here that you and I need to understand um a lot of people working for one another in the church it's one of the most difficult things uh to it shouldn't be but it is because often times we because we're brothers and sisters in the church oh we don't even ask the price what are you going to charge and that and well remember the first fellas that went in they had an agreement on what they were going to receive and in the in the church when it comes to God he said he's going to pass 100 fold over so I don't have to worry about what he's going to pay me he's going to pay me but there's a lesson here to be learned but you and me and and and that is for us to understand what we're going to charge and what we're going to pay even though we're brothers and sisters in the church because a lot of times it causes misunderstanding and so um and he said un them go ye also into the vineyard whatsoever is right I'll give you and they went their way again he went out about the sixth hour and uh I think comment said that was about 11:00 in the day and and the 9th hour and did likewise and about the 11th hour he went out and found others standing idle and said unto them why stand ye he all the day idle let's let's let's ask ourselves a question how long have we been standing in Idol what could we be doing for the Lord that we're not doing why stand you here idle all the day he found others standing idle and said unto them why stand ye here all the day idle they say unto him because no manath hired us well if You' have been here 6:00 I could have hired you then but you wouldn't here 6 and you wouldn't here at 9 and but but anyway the householder he wants everybody to have an opportunity whatever time they come in whatever time they can get to them he wants them to do his will and let me say to you I don't care who you are I don't care what age you are you might say I'm too young to work for God or I may be too old to work for God no such thing God has got a job for for you to do and there's no excuse to stand idle all day he's got something well one fell told me he said I don't mind working he said I don't mind he said I just can't find anything I like to do we had an old saying that there some folks wouldn't work in a Pie Factory as a station and that's kind of the way it is some folks they don't like they they don't mind working if they can find something they they like to do and they said why stand you here Idol and they said unto him because no manath hired us he said unto them go ye also into the vineyard and whatsoever is right that shall you receive so when Eden was come the lord of the mountain this last group it was the 11th Hour this was a just about an hour left in a day before the the the quitting time came and they had been idle all day long there were not there at 6:00 they were out there at 9 they were out there at 11 they were out there at 3: but they were there about uh and the quitting time was about 6:00 sun went down and and he said you go in and I'll I'll pay you what what uh is right and so when evening was come the Lord of that Vineyard said to his steward call the laborers and give them their hire beginning from the last unto the first now remember what he had said in the previous chapter the first shall be last and the last shall be first now this is a principle that it's hard for the human flesh to understand to grasp and we're going to get to something right here that's extremely important to us that we need to have a a spiritual understanding about this because it goes against everything the human nature craves for and when they received it they murmured against the good man of the house saying these last have rought but one hour and thou has made them equal unto us which have borne the burden and the Heat of the day I just don't think that's fair have you ever heard that before from your own children if you got more uh Pastor Mark said I don't qualify as a parent because I've only had one child said you got to have more than one to really understand what it is to be a parent well uh the first thing that he say it it it ain't Fair there's any school teachers in this announc see there's several have you ever heard that in your class with your children it ain't fair if they if they're marching to the lunchroom and you let somebody somebody has to lead the line and and that's one thing you'll hear over and over again it ain't Fair it ain't Fair uh we B we said the last of brought but one hour and thou has made them equal unto us which have borne the burden and the Heat of the day when I was seven years old I they had an old preacher had a Revival and tried to use the schoolhouse and they wouldn't let him use the schoolhouse because way back then they were afraid of religion getting mixed in with the the politics and uh they' have pie suppers and dances and all kind of other things but you couldn't have a Revival in that Schoolhouse so uh they let him hang some lanterns out in the back of the schoolhouse and he stretched some boards across some blocks and had seating and he had a Revival there and and that whole re and I don't recall how long the Revival was but it was several nights and to my recollection I was the only person that came to the altar in that Revival but in that Revival I went I went to The Altar and um I was 7 years old but I had a hunger for God I had a hunger for the Lord and something down deep inside me told me I needed the Lord I needed to be saved well nobody came around to pray for me that night and finally the the Pastor said the preacher said well if there's nobody coming we'll stand and be dismissed and I went home crying that night because nobody prayed for me now from that night on every time I was in a Revival meeting and there was they'd have country revivals and different church that church didn't matter what denomination it was we we go we didn't have any apost churches around us and U but if I any Revival I went to there's two things I would do number one they always had a testimony meeting I would always get up and testify and if I if I happen to go to sleep and I hav done that I would wake up I felt like I'd committed a terrible sin and I would cry because I didn't get to testify but if if I could stay awake and they gave an altar call I went to The Altar and I sought for the Holy Ghost and uh sometimes somebody would pray with me sometimes a lot of times they didn't but during this time I was I was seeking the Holy Ghost and in those days if you went to some of the Trinity Pentecostal churches they believed in three works of Grace saved Sanctified filled with the Holy Ghost they called it three definite works of Grace you repent and then you keep seeking god Till You Get get Sanctified and then you keep seeking the Lord till you get the Holy Ghost well the Bible said we're Sanctified by the Holy Ghost and I don't know when you get to the place that you get Sanctified without getting the Holy Ghost because the Holy Ghost sanctifies you but that's that's another day for another doctr but I I would seek for the I would seek for the Holy Ghost and uh the testimony I have is praise the Lord for saving and Sanctified me and filling me with the Sweet Holy Ghost well well I didn't have the Holy Ghost so my testimony was I want to praise the Lord for Sav sanctifying me and pray for me that I'll get the good Holy Ghost well my twin brother Bobby uh he prided himself in being mischievous and if you read his book double trouble for the devil he paints himself quite mischievous and he lived up to quite a bit of that I feel like he may pain himself a little worse what he was but uh he pretty well filled the bill and he would get me out with other boys in the community and uh they had Choice words they wanted to teach me to say now s years old and boys your age and a little older try to get you to curse and say nasty things uh and and you're trying to live for the Lord it was a difficult thing and they had a particular word they left a call that I hated and they were like he's a he's a and I wouldn't a sisy I'd go home crying to Mama would that prove their point or not I would go home crying to Mama and Mama would comfort me and and but uh every time they get me out they would they would try to get me to say bad words and um I I I I just Lord I wish that twin brother of mine would would would get in here and come to know the Lord like I did now he he was a good Defender I didn't I didn't believe in fighting I didn't believe in talking naughty nasty and but the other boys they better not pick on me to fight because he' take up for me he he didn't have any religion to keep him from it so he lived up to he lived up to his reputation but this this went on from the time I was 7 years old till I was 11 years old and by this time uh the they had a Revival we had we built a brush Arbor in our yard when we live with a little place called flag Lake Missouri and uh dad and a bunch of the men in the community they they cut down sapins and trees and and they built a a brush Arbor if you don't know what a brush Arbor is that's where they cut down green trees little little saplings and put them up and then uh brace them off with one another and then put brush on top of it and it would be Shady or it would temporarily keep rain off of you and uh we had to had a a brusher over there and I went to The Altar and they was going to have a baptizing and they baptized in the titles by the Son and Holy Ghost well at that time I wasn't all that uh versed in the scripture being uh 11 years old thereabouts uh so they going to have a baptizing on on a Saturday I believe it was and I got the clothes ready and I was standing on the side of the road and here came the truck by and it was a open bed truck and it was loaded down with people that going to get baptized in the titles Father Son and Holy Ghost well I was out there ready to get baptized and that truck passed me right by as though I wasn't standing there well I didn't understand that then but I thank the Lord for it now so I didn't get baptized in the titles well it went on till uh till uh I was going to a little Trinity Pentecostal Church in PAC Cola Missouri and uh there was a Nazarene preacher preaching the Revival now they didn't believe in in getting the Holy Ghost with evid didn't speak in tongues but uh they they was having a a great Revival and and there was a country music band on the uh the radio there and it was chub gry and the Missouri Mountaineers my brother-in-law Carl didn't he was the they they didn't call the violin players Fiddlers he played the fiddle and one of the the the traction he would tap dance to play the fiddle all at the same time and they would appear in school houses and were here and there Y and my sister uh uh was engaged to Carl they eventually got married but Chuck grade now he is he is actually brother uh Michael mopin is married to his grand niece I believe it is that's close enough I can to be sure but he's a relative but anyway he he was the head of that band and he developed bleeding ulcers and he was very very sick and and almost sick under death and I was going to this revival was about two miles from our house and I would walk to that Revival and I told Chuck gray about the Revival and he and the whole band they appeared at that Revival and they course they they played Christian music religious music and uh Chuck uh went down to the Altar and God filled him with the Holy Ghost and healed him of that bleeding aler condition well I was so delighted that that happened the very next night the second night after the first night after Chuck gray had got the Holy Ghost and they changed the name of their band from Chuck gray and the Missour Mountaineers to Chuck gray and the sunyside gospel singers they were on kboa in kennet Missouri and um I I went to the the Revival every night and I had my testimony I said I want to praise the Lord for saving and sanctifying me pray for me that I'll get the Sweet Holy Ghost well I testify that every night and when I said that that particular night there was an elderly lady she was quite aged and she pulled her hair back on her head real and did her hair up in a Biscuit right there on the back of her head and and I didn't think she was attractive at all she was just an old lady and and I didn't think she was goodlooking at all but when I testified that night and said pray pray for I'll get the ho ghost she said yes H and tonight well that stabbed me like a knife I I don't know what that preacher preached on that night he must have done a good job but uh when she said that all I could think of was yes honey and tonight now I sought the Holy Ghost for four years and I hadn't gotten it and and she said yes honey and tonight was something stabbed me tonight tonight she said tonight could I actually get the Holy Ghost tonight well when they gave the altar call I went to The Altar and I knelt down and started to pray and brother Chuck gray he was a fairly large man not not fat but he was good siiz man and he just got the Holy Ghost and he didn't know what to keep your distance and S kneel down beside somebody but uh here I was 11 years old little old skinny boy and he got right down over me and started prayed for me and my legs was in a cramp my arms was in a cramp and I thought Dear God I'm going to have to pray through he's going to smother me to death two and I couldn't I couldn't hardly get my mind on the Lord and then I heard folks over the looking down at me and the last thing I remember somebody said he's got the stammering lips I didn't know what stammering lips was but something about that touched me and as I as I continued to pray somebody would say say hallelujah and somebody say glory to God somebody say this somebody would say hold on somebody else would say turn loose and and I was trying to do everything they told me to do and all of a sudden as I was praying with my eyes closed it was like a radio or a television set was blasting too loud and somebody just turned the sound off and everything is it was as though the congregation just backed off into another room it just I I couldn't hear a thing and then something happened to my tongue it was like it was tied in the middle and loose on both ends I was talking in a language that I didn't know what I was saying I was talking in something I'd never been taught how to say that but I was speaking in a Heavenly language as the Holy Ghost gave the Ence give the little hand clap now talking about Justice and getting paid the same where they come in early or late now I had a mischievous twin brother that was a uh always deviling me with the other boys to trying to get me to talk dirty and try and and I I thought the Lord if my twin brother only could get what I got right now yes and I opened my eyes and about 10 10 ft from me he was wishing I had it he had come to the altar that night and got the Holy Ghost Hallelujah hold on here this little little Billy the little little good boy that goes to the altar every time they give an altar call he testifies every time he gets a chance he gets aggravated by boys in the community he has to endure the persecution and he does everything he can to try to live right you get the Holy Ghost and he sought the Holy Ghost for four years and his honor twin brother got the Holy Ghost the first night he went to the altar tell me if that's Justice it is Justice for God for he got the Hol now give the another hand clap I'll never forget going home that night uh he had gone with me to the Revival uh nights before and the dogs would bark and scare us and but that night we we practically ran home barefooted on a gravel road shouting and talking in tongues and the dogs were scared of us that night and when we got home that night of course there was not a jealous B in my body I wanted to get the Holy Ghost I I had prayed for I felt there was part of answer to my prayer and we bursted in the front door that night and and shouted and talking and we went back to the bedroom and we tried to tell Mom and Dad uh about what we had got and of course the first thing coming home Bob turned to me and said bill you know what we're going to have to quit lying about being sick so we don't have to go to school we qu we can't lie anymore and tell Dad that you're sick cuz you don't want to pick cot or you don't feel like going to school right off we realized that there had to be a change made in in our life but when we woke my dad up we just knew they would be so happy for us and my dad raised up he said boys get out of here be quiet I've got to work tomorrow and that could have hurt our feelings but we just backed on out and we just kept on shouting and and we had a little red barn out behind the house it had a uh the upstairs of the barn was the halock where they they throw bales of hay and that's where they stor the the hay and they had a homemade ladder down to the side of the the wall and Bobby and I would go up there and put us a veil of hay down Crossways and make us an altar and and we felt like we had to shout and talk in tongues every time we prayed we' go up said that stairs in that barn and we'd get to praying and we'd get to talking in tongues and we'd get to shouting it had to be the Lord to keep us from falling through because we that was our church and we kept on praising God right there in in that Barn well my older brother Donald uh he he wasn't living for the Lord himself and uh one night he got asking us what does the Holy Ghost feel like how's it tell me how how's it feel to get the Holy Ghost and Bobby and I started trying to tell him what it felt like to get the Holy Ghost and finally I said Don if you want to know how it feels I had we had an old can bottom chair straight chair pulled it out and pushed it against the wall and I said Don if you want to know how to feel get down on your knees and we'll pray you through the Holy Ghost right down he knelt on his knees and we got to pray him in just a little bit the Holy Ghost fell on Donald he fell back in the floor his face was red and he was talking in tongues his neck BS were swollen out and he was in another world yes my dad got out of bed and and he came and he looked around the door and looked down at Don laying there just talking in tongues his face red and his neck veins swelled out and dad looked at at me he said I just don't understand it Don's always been a good boy I don't see why he has to go through with something like this well he didn't realize he was just in a glory World God had baptized him with the Holy Ghost and he was speaking in tongues as the spirit of God gave the utterance Hallelujah now wait a minute what's fair what's fair I sh the Holy Ghost four years I was a good little boy I I was all let me tell you something God had God deals with the heart when you're ready I don't care you may be the first time you've ever come in off the street to seek the Lord God's got the Holy Ghost for you when you're ready to turn your life over to him it don't matter whether it's the first hour the ninth hour the 11th Hour whosoever will let him come and drink of the Water of Life freely you can have it it's for you for This Promise is unto you and to your children and them that are far off even as many as the Lord Our God should call amen oh Hallelujah well you're going to have to bear with me tonight oh praise God but the fellas that came in this story the first hour of the day they saw somebody else that came in the last hour and they got the same pay and something happened to them that you and I need to consider in uh Proverbs 6:34 it says for jealousy is the Rage of a man therefore he will not spare the day of Vengeance he will not regard any Ransom neither will he rest content though thou give him many gifts the Bible said that jealousy is cruel as the grave now past Anthony the other Sunday preached about the tongue what a vicious member it is and uh you talk it's a fire set on it it's a instrument that set on fire of of hell and if you're not careful you'll allow jealousy said to get in your heart now this comes down to many of us and even in in our workplace if you feel somebody else is getting a little better uh opportunity or being favored a little bit many of many of rubarb has been started in the workplace one feeling jealous of another and this is where we need to be able to control that tongue and Pastor Anthony so eloquently put it that God had chosen the untameable member to be the evidence of the Holy Ghost because when you get the Holy Ghost you lose control of that tongue and you start speaking in a Heavenly language the M the brain the mind and the tongue God takes control of that and you have no longer control of that moment but now in our flesh in our flesh if we're not careful uh husbands and wives jealousy split a a many of marriage of jealousy has wrecked uh businesses before and you and I need to be on our guard for that uh in in the church a sister mul and I were in a Revival of of a great church many many years ago before we ever came to Knoxville and the church Church actually the uh the seed of the problem was over who got to play the piano in the rotation and of course the piano players and there were more than one they had families and they begin to choose up sides and the next thing you know is they begin to choose upside that this this bitterness begin to grow and begin to get worse and worse and uh way in the night we hear the pastor and his wife praying moaning and groaning and seeking God and and asking God for guidance have and and there there's a group in that church sped off of close to 100 people all because of just who got to play the piano when and what time and if people aren't careful now in this story we're we're studying and in this in this story uh jealousy has become the Rage of the the man he said you you didn't you didn't treat us fair you it wasn't it wasn't fair for you to do what you did and and you you paid them the same thing you paid the rest of us the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a man that is a householder went out now he now notice what he said when when the they they begin to be questioned and when they came they were hired about the 11th Hour they received Every Man a penny but when the first came they supposed that they should have received more and they likewise received Every Man a penny and when they had received it they murmured against the good man of the house now the good man of the house gave them everything he said he was going to but this jealousy and now Jesus said in his Parables I'm I'm teaching this for you to understand but the world's not going to understand this some things they're not going to know but God is allowing you and me to understand some things by the word of God that the outside world don't understand now out there in the world it's uh the the uh cocky or you could be the more smart You Can Be You Can Dance your little dance when you make a touchdown and and you can make fun of the other team and all that and we're number one and we're number one and all that's one thing for the world but we in the house of God must never have that kind of attitude to to run somebody else down to make fun of somebody else we need to pray for them in the in the story Jesus told uh about the man that went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among Thieves who beat him and and left him half dead and the Bible said by and by certain priests and Levi came by and they saw that he was uh wounded they looked upon him but they passed on by but a Samaritan and Jesus told this story and he of all people he made the hero of his story The despised Samaritan and the Samaritan saw him and he picked him up pulled oil and wine into his wound put him on his beast and took him to an end and told them take care of him and said I'll be back and if you spend more than what I'm giving you I'll pay it now what the Lord is telling us now is we don't kick that we the Lord's going to make the hero out of who he wants to make the hero out of and we we don't have that attitude of we're haha we're number one we're better than you but let us go on and they said uh uh and when they came they were hard but when the first came they supposed that they should have received more and they likewise received Every Man a penny and when they had received it they murmured against the good man of the house saying thou wrought we have wrought they have wrought one hour thou has made them equal un us which have borne the burden and the Heat of the day now in his story of the prodical son he not only told about the prodal son coming home he told about the elder brother that was in the field and was too jealous to come in because he thought his father was being overly generous with his wild younger brother that had spent his substance on Rous living and the father went out to see him and this is something you and I need to understand too we've got to be willing to run down the road to meet the backslider coming in yes but that's not the hardest part the hardest part is sometimes the elder brother that's a prodal in his own household and sometimes you've got to reason with care for and pray for and instead of saying you hypocrite you all well we're struggling with the human nature and sometimes we need a little prayer and understanding and encouragement of how to handle difficult situations so remember this he tells the story of these the ones that came in first and yet they were jealous he answered them and said friend I do thee no wrong didst thou not agree with me for a penny take that thine is and go thy way I will give unto the last even as unto thee and before we go any further we need to thank God for this principle there's not a person under the sound of my voice right now that don't have somebody in your memory somebody in your family it may be a distant relative or you have a neighbor you have somebody that it would seem imp impossible that they could ever get right with God we don't want to give up on anybody our goal is souls and we give up on no one and if the older brother pouts we don't say just pout or get out just we don't do that we try to keep patience and love and care and encourage them to see that we're blessed because the Lord will accept those that come in at the last last hour is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own is th ey evil because I'm good so the last shall be first and the first last for many be but few chosen don't you want to be one of the chosen he will accept you if you're just turn if you're here tonight and you don't know him and I I see many people that have drifted so deep in sin they actually feel like the Lord won't accept them he he died for you he loved you so much he died for you he wants you he loves you more than you love yourself and he loves your loved ones your friends and let's thank God for would you stand your feet with us please father we thank you tonight for the Blessed word God we thank thank you for the great truths that are contained within the ledge of this wonderful book and father I thank you that you can open the way to us to see a better life even in our everyday walk in our job and our Pastime and our pleasure we can behave ourselves as Christians and enjoy the fruits of our labor I pray Lord you'll bless your people that this word will sink deep into our hearts Hearts dismiss us from this place but not from your presence bring us back at the next appointed time in Jesus name we pray amen shake hands and be friendly tell somebody you love them tell somebody you thank the Lord for them God bless you you're dismissed in
