Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Kingdom Values: The Rich Young Ruler

  • He teaches lesson 3.2 on kingdom values, working through Mark 10:17-31, the account of the rich young ruler who ran to Jesus asking what to do to inherit eternal life.
  • The focus verse is Mark 10:21-22: Jesus loved him and told him one thing he lacked — sell what he has, give to the poor, take up the cross, and follow — and the young man went away grieved because he had great possessions.
  • The kingdom does not lack resources; what God looks for from his people is a willing heart, and sacrifice is the key that opens the windows of heaven.

Scriptures: Mark 10:21-22; Mark 10:17-31

The Heart Surrenders Its Treasure

  • Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 6:10 that the love of money is the root of all evil, and he warns against loving money itself rather than using it for the kingdom.
  • God is not unrighteous to forget our work and labor of love, per Hebrews 6:10; a giving church can trust him to supply.
  • The book of James warns that a man who seems religious but does not bridle his tongue has a vain religion; the tongue is a fire and must be surrendered like everything else.
  • When the heart is yielded, the treasure follows: he tells of attendees whose giving changed when their hearts were changed at conversion.

Scriptures: 1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 6:10; James (book-only, as spoken)

The Queen and the House of God

  • He reads 1 Kings 10:1-5: a queen came to prove Solomon with hard questions and saw his wisdom, his house, his table, and the ascent to the house of the Lord, and there was no more spirit in her.
  • Men come from far away to watch how the house of God does things; the church must be careful with what it has been given.
  • He urges the congregation to back their pastor, Pastor Mark McCool, and to keep supporting the work with giving hearts as the church builds.

Scriptures: 1 Kings 10:1-5

Kingdom Principles: The Greatest Is the Servant

  • Lesson 3.3 takes up kingdom principles: whoever will be great among you shall be your minister, and whosoever will be the chiefest shall be servant of all.
  • He reads the Mark 9 account, where Jesus settles the disciples' dispute about greatness by setting a child among them, and the Mark 10 account, where James and John ask for the seats at his right and left hand.
  • Jesus came not to be ministered unto but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many; greatness in the kingdom is measured by serving.
  • He closes by applying it to the local church: authority exercised in the kingdom is gentle, and every member's part matters, and he dismisses the class in the name of the Lord.

Scriptures: Mark 10:43-44; Mark 9:33-37; Mark 10:35-45

and the Bible said and in that day they shall say praise the Lord and we've got a reason to praise the Lord tonight what a great joy it is to be in the house of the Lord and it's good to see all of you here tonight it's always a joy to see the saints of God and it's always a joy to open the book and start studying the word of God that's very important um we're going to be teaching two lessons tonight we got behind a little bit uh we've had a lot of special services and I think I can I think I can do that by shortening both the subject's just a little bit but um I I love to I love to preach from inspiration when the Lord lays something on my heart and pastors asked me to preach Sunday night and um thank you God bless you thank you and I will be be preaching Sunday night um but I like to to study and teach the word of God and I if you don't if you're not keeping up with our Sunday school literature it would be a good idea if you did uh and these there's these folks are they have a board of uh writers and I like to study what they put down because it challenges me to to understand and add to and get my own views and my own ideas I don't read verbatim the the lesson but tonight we're going to be studying lesson 3.2 which is for February the 12th 2023 and also uh that that is that lessons entitled Kingdom values and then when I finish that we'll be teaching I can't uh Kingdom priorities I believe it is but it's all in this lesson and uh we're going to start out tonight with the uh what they call the focus verse uh Mark 10 21 I didn't realize a few weeks ago when I was teaching um I went I went ahead on the the lesson and uh I I talked about this rich young man but this lesson is built around this Rich Young Ruler so uh let's look at Mark chapter 10 after we pray I want to say this sister Betty Richmond got to go home today from the hospital and we thank the Lord for that we need to continue to hold her up in prayer father we thank you tonight for this service and for the privilege of studying the word of God I pray that you will anoint the lips of clay with the spirit of God give what you would have spoken in this service tonight in Jesus name we pray and my my what a message we heard Sunday night I wasn't that that was fantastic praise the Lord what a what a joy and what a blessing it was to hear uh Pastor Mark McCool uh preached like he did Sunday night all right um Mark 10 21 and 22 are they focused verses then Jesus beholding him loved him we could stop right there and dwell a little bit Jesus beholding him loved him Jesus loves everybody but this scripture makes me understand and believe there was something special about this young man Jesus beholding him loved him and what what was there about this young man that the Bible saw fit to use these words that he loved him and uh he said unto him one thing they'll like us go by way so whatsoever thou Hast and give to the poor and thou shalt have Treasures in Heaven come take up the cross and follow me and he was sad at that saying and went away grieved for he had great possessions and then looking at Mark 10 17-31 and when he was going forth into the way there came one running and kneeled to him and asked him good Master what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life now this is the question that everyone would like to know uh everybody everybody wants to live forever but ever and there may be a few instances a few few situations you might consider not so in the case of suicide but many times that's a mental illness and with some things we don't understand but what must I do that I may inherit eternal life and they called him good Master what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life and Jesus said unto him why call us thou me good Jesus chose this opportunity to Enlighten this young man in my opinion concerning who he was in the first place for he said why call us thou me good there is none good but one and that is God and we pulled it out the last time we referred to this scripture uh and what point can you say that Jesus is not good never was the Gaul found in his mouth never a sin so what Jesus is saying why call us thou me good there's none good but one that is God if Jesus is not good he's not God if Jesus is good he is God and I believe this is what he was saying to the young man like he talked to the woman at the well when he said if thou knowest the gift of God and who it was as said that they give me to drink thou would have asked of him and he would have given you Living Waters the first thing Jesus wants you to know who he is uh we I believe we used this scripture recently Jesus asked his disciples who remains say that I the son of man now and they said some says you're alive some say you're John the Baptist of Savior Jeremiah and he said but whom say ye that I am he wanted to know uh what they thought well in a way we can't say that he wanted to know because in my scripture I have the in in the Book of John it said he didn't need anybody to tell him anything about man but it because he knew it all that was in man so that that is that's a question but he asked it anyway who do men say that I the son of man and then he said but who do you say he wants you to say it he wants you to know who he is so when he said but who do you say that I am and Peter said Thou Art the Christ the son of the Living God he said flesh and blood and not reveal this to thee but my father wishes heaven and he went ahead and gave Peter the keys to the kingdom so uh some people may wonder why we make quite an issue of calling ourselves Oneness Pentecost and we believe in the Oneness of the godhead well we don't believe there are three separate and distinct persons in the godhead we believe there's one God who was manifest in creation as the father and the son in Redemption and as the holy spirit in the church but not three separate and distinct persons so he says to to the to the young man why call us thou me good there's none good but one and that is God uh and Jesus said to them why couldn't stop making and then he said uh uh Jesus said to him why couldn't stop me because there's nothing good but one that's God thou knows the Commandments do not commit adultery do not kill do not steal do not bear false witness defraud not under thy father and thy mother and I'm sure this young man must have felt very good about this time because if you notice what he answered he said unto their master all these have I kept from my youth I he must have felt really good about himself because all these things he said I have kept from my youth boy that's that's got to make you feel good when you're when you can say that Jesus then beholding him loved him and said unto him one thing they'll lack us and instead of him one thing they'll like us go thy way sail whatsoever thou has and give to the poor and thou shalt have Treasures in Heaven come take up thy cross and follow me now a question here um I I believe I believe perhaps I believe Nicodemus was probably a wealthy man he was a ruler of the Jews and I don't think he was a a pauper by any means but when he went to Jesus by night and was asking what he needed to do and Jesus said that uh you must be born again he never said anything to Nicodemus about selling anything and giving to the poor I'm putting some things together in my own mind I believe in this situation there was something special about this young man that he was wrapped up in his riches it wasn't just that he had money but money had him uh there are some folks they can own a bass boat they can only pleasure airplane they could only yuck and still yet serve God and there's others that can let a lawnmower occupy their mind and love they they can't they can't own a bass boat because they they go they'll go fishing on Sunday and they'll miss church it's the difference in the individual or you understand what I'm saying now he did not tell Nicodemus there's one thing you like and I did some studying on this of all the commentaries agree that they believe that Nicodemus indeed became a devout disciple of the Lord because he came and begged the body of Jesus he and Joseph of Obama them and they brought spices and they embalmed the body of Jesus and buried him and the the commentaries they nobody can read a scripture that said it was but it is believed that he was a devout disciple of the Lord in his life so my point right now is Jesus said one thing thou like us what He lacked Nicodemus may not have lacked what somebody else so if you get the point of what I'm saying now um you can you can have a lot of things if you don't let a lot of things have you when you let this or that now some folks can have a new car and it won't bother and their others get so filled with pride over what they've got my new car or my new home or some folks will let find clothes stand between them and God they God said Pride I do hate so I want you to I want you to get this point that I'm making because I I think it's well it it sounds very minor I think it's important because this Jesus loved the young man he wasn't just picking on him he wasn't just trying to find fault but he said there's one thing thou like us Nicodemus might not have like that and you and I need to search our heart is there anything I'm lacking there are some of us if we aren't careful we can love God we can pay our tithe we can give our offering and but we can be too quick to be critical and the the one thing the Bible talks about a sin that's without uh remedy and that's spreading Discord among the Brethren he talked about these six things the Lord hates and Yea the seventh is an Abomination and he said for which there is no remedy and that is spreading Discord among the Brethren so I I made the Bible speaks against covetousness and that's the uh I call that the uh the secret sin or the sin that sings in the choir and the sin that preaches and teaches bible classes because nobody knows when you covet that's that that's that's just in your heart you know that's just in your heart and we need to understand that what we're talking about now what thou like us this brother over here may not like and I may do a lot of other things but you see if I'm not careful there'll be something in my heart and in the Book of James it says if any man seemed to be religious and brother not his tongue that man's religion is vain what do you think of that now if any man seem to be religious and broadleth not his tongue I need to be careful I can I can teach Bible on Wednesday night I can preach on Sunday night and I can preach on tithe and I can preach on the Ten Commandments but if I'm not careful my tongue can get me in trouble the Bible said that a a big ship can be guided by a very small Rudder A Horse can be a very mean you can put bits in his mouth and and you can guide him which way to go but said the tongue no man can tame you need to be careful and be I think that's this is personal belief I think that's why the Lord chose speaking in tongues as they uh initial evidence of the Holy Ghost because he if it takes uh control of the tongue it takes control of the whole body so be it and the instance that they master all these have observed for my youth Jesus Behold Him and loved him and said one thing thou lack us go and say whatsoever thou has and give to the poor and thou shalt have treasure in heaven and come take up the cross and follow me Jesus did not say that to everybody and I'm not saying to you that for you to please God you've got to go and sell your house and car and and everything your boat and I'm in your lawnmower and give it away there's many scriptures of the Bible that speaks against a slothfulness and Paul said if you don't work you don't eat and he gives a lot of examples about how we need to be responsible in our life and working and earning a living and he was sad at that saying and went away grieved for he had great possessions and Jesus looked round about and said unto his disciples how hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God how hardly can they that have riches and let me repeat you can have riches if you don't let riches have you if you can keep things in perspective and Jesus looked round about and said to his disciples I hardly shall that they that have riches enter the kingdom of God and the disciples were astonished at his words but Jesus entered again and said unto them children how hard is it for them that trust enriches to enter into the kingdom of God Paul said in writing to Timothy in first Timothy 6 10 For the Love of Money is the root of all evil now I hear it quoted time and time again to those who are not well versed in the scripture they say that the uh that money is the root of all the Bible don't say that money is the root of all evil it said the love of money is the root of all evil which while some coveted after they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows um we dorcasa and there were ladies in the Bible who were business women who were dealers in purple which was a a prestigious occupation they sold and bought and were considered pretty wealthy but if they didn't let that stand between them and God I believe God will bless you with riches with with maybe an original but he can but God can bless you to be comfortable or well off Financial he even said bringing all the tithe into the storehouse and prove me it was Sample Lord if I'll not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out of blessing there shall not be room enough just to receive but if I let that blessing come between me and God it becomes a curse uh the love of money is the root of all evil which while some coveted after they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many Sorrows back to our lesson verse 25 it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God and they were astonished out of measure saying among themselves who then can be saved we dealt with that the last time um there's been several explanations there's a place in over in the Holy Land that's uh uh it's a it's a very narrow passage that for a camel to get through yes get down on his knees and and it almost takes hide here at all but and it's been explained that they believe that that's maybe it's what Jesus was referring to I personally believe he's talking about it's almost an impossibility for some folks if if they're anything they let stand between them and God it's going to keep them from the kingdom of God be that as it may we know that it's a difficult thing if you love riches and they were astonished out of marriage of saying among themselves who then can be saved and Jesus looking upon them said with men it's impossible but not with God for With God all things are possible then Peter began to say unto him low now notice this Peter began to think this thing out now this is one of the reasons I have a feeling and again this is opinion not not a fact this young man when Jesus cast The Devils out of the demonic they had demonic with being cleansed and healed from being demon-possessed he got in the boat with Jesus and Jesus said no no you don't get you go home to your friends and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you of the woman at the well Jesus didn't make her uh any special leader said you go you go tell your your husband what you heard and when she said I have no but you've had five so she went back and told them come see a man that's told me everything I've done my point excuse me Plus I believe Jesus was calling that man he said don't only sell what you've got and give to the poor but take up the cross and follow me I believe he was giving this young man the opportunity to be one of his close followers and he could not tend to houses and lands and money and go follow the lord I think there was something special that the Lord had for him had this young man been willing to do it because that's what James and John did when they called them they left their fish and nests they left their fathers vote and and this is what Peter is saying here Peter began to say Lo we have left all the followed thee and Jesus answered and said verily I say unto you there is no man that hath left house or Brethren or sisters Our Father our mother our wife our children or lands for my sake in the gospels but he shall receive a hundredfold now and this time houses and Brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands with with persecution with and in the world to come now uh how many in this congregation tonight if you really face the fact and you when you gave everything up to serve the Lord do you believe you have been repaid I I have experienced and I've witnessed so many situations of uh broken homes broken hearts broken lives addiction uh all kind of problems that I'll have to say that God now I was a cotton picker when God saved me I was a sharecropper in Southeast Missouri and that's not an easy job I'll tell you right now brother Don my oldest brother said he'd go around I uh all day with a headache before we'd pick a cotton out of a bottle of a bottle of aspirin he ate picking cotton so bad well that was a little bit extreme I guess but but we were cotton farmers and we've all heard the preachers witness that you know when I came to God I was on my way to be a singer at the Grand Ole Opry I was on my way to be rich and this other than the other no I wasn't on my way to the Grand Ole Opry I was on my way to a sore back and sore knees and a rough living but and God delivered I didn't serve him for just for that reason I give my heart to the Lord I had no idea it's going to call me to preach but he did so Jesus told Peter Peter there's nobody that's given up to your old life that you didn't profit and and I want you to notice what Hebrews 6 and 10 says for God is Not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love which ye have showed toward his name and that ye have ministered to the Saints and do Minister I want to tell you something God is Not unrighteous to forget what you're doing for him remember that let me let me read you something uh in the the book of uh First Kings uh chapter 10 and uh I think I want to start reading about um um let's see well let's go to verse one and when the Queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord she came to prove him with hard questions and she came to Jerusalem with a very great train with camels that bear spices and very much gold and precious stones and when she was come to Solomon she communed with him of all that was in her heart and Solomon told her all her questions there was not anything hidden from the King which he did when he which he told or not and when the Queen of Sheba had heard all of Solomon's wisdom and the house that he had built and the meat and I noticed what I'm about to read and the meat of his house and the setting of his servants and the attendance of his ministers and their apparel and his cupbearers and his Ascent by which he went up to the house of the Lord there was no more spirit in her the Queen of Sheba said nothing about Solomon's Warlords his financial advisors his cabinet or his brain trust but she was impressed by the meat of his tables and the sitting of his servants and the attendance of his Ministers of their apparel and his cup bears and by the way which he went up to the house of the Lord do you hear what I just read she didn't say oh what an army oh what what Brain Trust what Warlords she was impressed with the details of his service the way they set the table I'm going to tell you something I've had I've had folks through the years to come from far away and I don't maybe we shouldn't tell this uh but they wanted to come and see how we operate in our church they said they want to see how they ushered how they acquire because they were impressed by the the way it was was done well now when we first moved in the little the other Church uh way back then I can I can well remember I get time to take an offer in the future say Let's see we got to pass the hats anybody got a Hatter uh we need somebody to take up the offer not to uh Brother Sam was you coming brother and they didn't have any organization didn't have any planning we're going to have a choir everybody again and anybody want to come to the platform that where they could carry a tune or not they called that the choir they didn't they didn't have Sopranos in Alto and and the different parts but everyone wanted to come now if you don't understand what I'm saying now and I'm not I'm certainly not bragging other than I thank God for the organization the people up there in the and we say this very often but I it Bears repeating the technicians the ushers the greeters the people behind the scenes the the minister of music and those who come to practice and get these songs together this was what was impressive to the Queen of Sheba well we're talking about what we can do for God the value of being a child of God somebody say Amen it was most impressive the way he went up into the house of the Lord he was diligent and liberal giving to the house of God we do our we do our testimony in our God no service when we hit and miss with our church attendance you don't know whether the ushers are going to be here or not we don't know whether they're going to be a choir and I don't know whether they're going to come because they won't come to chiropractors if we sing in the choir once in a while if we tithe once in a while if we pray once in a while there is a lack in our consistency the heart of the house is consistent the heart beating and our bosom doesn't work very every other day it must be consistent and faithful if we're going to live it is the mundane task done faithfully and efficiently which deservedly gets the attention and admiration several years ago I was attending a conference or preaching somewhere and and I was staying in a Marriott Hotel our Motel whichever was and and all the hotels there's usually a a Bible in the nightstand sometimes there'll be a Jehovah's Witness Bible sometimes there'll be a different versions but I opened the drawer and pulled out a book and it was a book entitled the spirit to serve by J.W Marriott now I preached a message concerning this in 2006 or anybody was here in 2006 you may remember it but in his book The Spirit to serve J.W Marriott States in every large Hotel hidden from the eyes and ears of guests exist an invisible City behind doors below the ground a maze of quarters corridors connections kitchen till connect kitchen to loading docks housekeeping to the laundry accounting to the Communication Center and around the clock an army of cooks housekeepers Engineers waiters dishwashers electricians and other Specialists bustles along these hallways each member responsible for making his or her part of the hotel operation run smoothly the lodging industry has a term to describe this Hidden World it is called the heart of the house like hotels every company has its heart of the house there the Hurley Burley of product creation manufacturing marketing finance and dozens of other vital functions takes place largely unseen by customers and clients ideas are tried and discarded decisions are debated made regretted corrected systems are fine-tuned careers rise and fall and with luck a few lessons are learned along the way now I'm not finished but there's a lot of things that goes on in operating a church that a lot of people have no idea what all is going on they don't know this this building didn't just grow up overnight and this great choir didn't just create because two or three people got together and said let's say these ushers they know what they're doing these greeters know what they're doing these praise singers They're not just getting up here and and singing The Great Speckled Bird that they've they've prepared and and this is the heart we're talking about by heart of the house you are the heart of the of the house Mr Marriott continues I've been working in the heart of marielle's house for more than 40 years during that time the organization has grown from a 50 million dollar restaurant an airline catering chain with one hotel into a 12 billion dollar global company managing more than 1 500 hotels Resorts and timeshare properties dozens of senior living communities and thousands of food service contracts and other special services to give you a sense of scale we probably prepare more meals and make up more beds each day than anyone except the US Army I'll be a liar if I predicted not to be extremely proud of what we built in the foundation of my father's original a w root beer stand lost in 1927 like all enduring great companies in Marriott lasting success does not come from a single great idea brilliant strategy lucky break or even a single great leader each of these advantages even if a company has them does not last forever no the foundation of a great company lies and more fundamental attributes Marriott attained his stature because its shares in certain Timeless fundamental a fundamentals found in great companies as Procter and Gamble Hewlett-Packard and 3M Timeless core values and enduring purpose truly great companies maintain a set of core values and a core purpose that remained fixed while their business strategies and practices continually adapt to a changing world now please listen to what I'm saying I'm making a comparison we do not change our core values there are core values that cannot and will not change Timeless core values and enduring purpose truly great companies maintain a set of core values and a core purpose that remained fixed while their business strategies and practices continually adapt to a changing World they understand the difference between what should never change and what should be open for change between what is truly sacred and what is not he should have heard Pastor preach Sunday night don't that sound a whole lot like what we heard Sunday night my my our core values our Doctrine our principles don't change but and there's some folks that that do not understand the difference there are some folks and they're just as sincere as can be but they feel like if you're not in the same setting that we were 40 years ago were drifting from the truth and that is there that is a true the fact is if we had we if we had the 30 people we had UH 60 years ago uh and didn't move on with the times uh we would not be doing what we should be doing for the Lord now we we don't we don't change our core values our principles our Doctrine it Remains the Same but thank God for a a nice building thank God for viewers thank God for sound system thank God for video I I remember well uh trying to have a one one Wednesday night I got a Bible study and and I I was teaching all the they put on the whole armor of God I didn't have the money to buy chalkboard so I I bought me a piece of cardboard that's just a a four by eight sheet of hard board very thin and I found where I could buy a Blackboard paint and I painted that that board uh myself let it dry and then it became a chalkboard and I got over there when one Wednesday morning early and I worked about all day I drew a picture of a soldier with his armor and I had every piece of armor in that and and and and I had arrows pour into this and scripture off to that and then there was a sword out of scripture the air pumped up to that and I I I was doing everything I could to give visual aid to what I was preaching I was ahead of my time you saying you and I got to church that night and there was about 13 people there and I well how interested I was I got one of my wife's sheets from the bed and went over there and covered that chalkboard with sheets so nobody would get ahead of me I wanted it to be a surprise you know now I can brother Derek will help me and we'll throw it up here on the screen but I I I put the a sheet over that chalkboard and then the winning the golf time I pulled out 13 people well I needless to say I was disappointed and being a young Pastor I started out after church knocking on people's doors asking them why they wasn't at church I did I went from the house and different ones and asked him why why was you not in church why are you not in church well that wasn't exactly wisdom on my part but that's how anxious I was and this is my point of telling you I believe and and then later on they got a little box about gay big had a handle on it and had a light bulb in it and have a mirror in it and a a a lens and you could sit that on top of something and it would show it on a screen it wouldn't be very plain but it would show it and I was just I don't think they threw it away or not but I had one and and I would use that I would write my scripture down to give visual aid set it on top of it and show acts 2 38 well I'm telling you all of that to say this um we haven't forsaken any of our core values not at all but I can remember the day when Allah had to for music was a a guitar and sometimes I bang on that thing you break a string and they keep but we had church we we had Church on a dirt floor for I I don't know about him in a year and we was in a basement for five years in a basement I don't want to go back to something like that not at all and so if you're understanding what I am saying tonight the the the court there could be no distinction between a company's core values and the core values of its leadership the values originate from deep inside the people themselves authentic bone deep passionately hell now that was uh JW Marriott's quote now this is not brother McCool's quote listen to J.W Marriott there can be no distinction between a company's core values and the core values of its leadership the values originate from deep inside the people themselves authentic bone deep passionately held end of quote Marriott uses such terms as core values corporate culture bone Deep sacredly Hell views all of which sounds like a preacher preaching his heartfelt convictions so you can understand what I'm saying and I've spent all my time on on one lesson let me skip through this next one in a big hurry uh lesson 3.2 and this is Kingdom values uh copy and uh notice this hold on just one minute Kingdom a principles Kingdom principles that's the lesson 3.3 uh Mark 10 43. but so shall not be among you but whoso will be great among you shall be your minister and whosoever of you will be the chief shall be servant of all or less than Texas taken from Mark the ninth chapter starting in verse 33 and it came to Capernaum and being in the house he asked them what was it that he disputed among yourselves on the way no they had been disputing on the way now you will remember Maybe a preached one time uh when Joseph finally discovered himself to his brothers and sent them home uh their old empty wagons he loaded down with food but he told them to go and bring all the family and said don't don't bring in the furniture don't bring you don't you're not going to need anything just don't you know don't don't blow up the old grandfather clock because you're lavender come on back I've got everything that you'll ever need just just load the wagons down with family just get the family back and what uh what a promise that was because they were on starvation and then he gave them one last warning he said and see that you fall not out by the way he knew the attitude of his brothers and he knew if he didn't give them special warning they may get into a fuss on the way home says see that you fall now that's good advice for the church today did you know that that's good advice to a husband and wife that's good advice to a family that's good advice to a company when you have your sales meeting or will you see that you fall not out by the way so Jesus said hey boys what we are discussing well Jesus didn't have to ask them because the Bible says that he knew everything that was in man and needed no one to tell him he knew he knew but he asked himself what what was he discussing y'all were having but the health of Peace for by the way they had disputed among themselves who should be the greatest Now isn't that something isn't that something they were arguing over who was the greatest first football game of the season everybody runs out on the field with their fingers took up we're number one we're undefeated no you hadn't played yet and you win two or three games and they put you number one look out there somebody's waiting to knock you down when you get to be number one they got more incentive and they'll work harder got more enthusiasm more excitement more energy to put you down than if you was a number 32 so so because well we're number one we're this we need to be careful that what we have we glorify God and don't brag about it just because we think we got something great this is they they would they held their peace because evidently they were ashamed of themselves and he sat down and called the 12 and said to them if any man desire to be first the same shall be last of all and servant of all and it took a child and set him in the midst of them and when he had taken him in his arms he said unto them whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name receiveth me and whosoever shall receive me receiveth not me but him thus set me now notice he chose to pick up a little child as to be an example as to what we need to be with all the things we've talked about our core values and things that we believe so forth let us not get puffed up and filled with pride and you see some folks grow and others swell and we need to be careful that we don't swell but that we grow uh John 10 35 and James and John the sons of Zebedee came unto him saying Master we would that thou should do for us whatsoever we shall desire excuse me and instead of them what would ye that I should do for you and he said unto him and they said unto him Grant unto us that we may sit one on my right hand and the other on thy left hand in thy Glory can you imagine grown men followers of the Lord disciples apostles arguing over and then actually in one instance that the mother of of these fellows asked Jesus the question but Jesus said unto them ye know not what he asked can you drink of the cup that a drink of and be baptized with a baptism that I am baptized with we heard that just recently didn't we and then said to him we can and Jesus said unto them you shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of and with the baptism of thy baptized with shall ye be baptized but to sit on my right hand on my left hand is not mine to give but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared and when the ten heard it they began to be much displeased with James and John I get a great deal out of that verse right there when they heard that these two James and John had made this request they were much displeased with James and John see the heart of the trouble with Joseph's situation was he had dreams and told it to his brothers that they were going to bow down to him and even his father rebuked him for saying you mean I'm gonna bow down they couldn't take that the downfall of Saul was when David slew Goliath and they came back and the young women went out in the street dancing singing Saul as fellainius thousands and David as slain his ten thousand and right off Saul began to turn green with the envy and said they've ascribed to to me but a thousand and to David ten thousand we need to be careful that we don't allow jealousy in our hearts and we also need to be careful that we don't create jealousy in someone else's heart um how do I say this in and say it with tech um uh oh that's the best preacher he'll he'll he'll never he'll never fill his Daddy's Shoes he'll never fill his daddy's shoes or heal him well I'm not expecting but I'm not feeling anybody else's shoes but I'm trying to walk in the footsteps of Jesus that's what I'm trying to do right there I'm trying to fall in his footsteps and if you're not careful you'll brag on somebody and bragging on somebody you put somebody else down uh you I like to tell you about on and she was pretty in that old thing you wore last week that's not very complimentary now my point of this right here is it means be small to insignificant but James and John created animosity among the other ten and we need to be careful that what we say we don't either offend or create a reason for someone else to have uh Envy in their heart Jesus called them to him and said unto the hint to them ye do not they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them and they're great ones exercise authority over them now this is the way the Gentiles live they got folks that wants to be over others they want to be over somebody but should they have somebody over them he's pointing out that everybody has a boss everybody has someone over them but so shall it not be among you but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister and whosoever of you will be the chiefess shall be servant of all for even the son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many would you stand to your feet with me please um dear Lord help us tonight to understand your word Lord help us to realize that we are servants we're sent here to serve you yourself did not come to this earth to be served but you came to serve and to give your life as a ransom for many and may we be willing to sacrifice to work and serve you in every capacity which is possible I pray Lord your dismiss us from this place but not from your presence bring us back this weekend at the appointed time and all the appointed meetings that's called may we be faithful in everything we're called upon to do in Jesus name we pray amen shake hands and be friendly you're dismissed In The Name Of The Lord
