Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Putting Others First

  • He opens with the name: neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.
  • A new series begins tonight — putting others first: a look at how Jesus loved the unlovable and took time for folks others would ordinarily not take time for.
  • William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, too ill to address the 1910 convention, sent a one-word telegram that summarized his life's work: Others.
  • The focus verse, Mark 10:45: for even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
  • John 3:16: for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Scriptures: Acts 4:12; Mark 10:45; John 3:16

Suffer the Little Children

  • They brought young children to him that he should touch them, and his disciples rebuked those that brought them; Jesus was much displeased: suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.
  • Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter therein; and he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
  • Mark 9:42: whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and he were cast into the sea.
  • Children can be sincere with God early — he tells of his own repentance at seven years old — and no one who comes to this altar, however young or old, should ever be left to kneel alone; use wisdom and discretion in laying on hands and in praying with people.

Scriptures: Mark 10:13-52; Mark 9:42

The Rich Young Ruler

  • One came running and kneeling: good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? Jesus answered, why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God — if Jesus wasn't God, he wasn't good.
  • He had kept the commandments from his youth, and Jesus beholding him loved him — whoever comes through these doors, we must have a love for souls.
  • One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow me. He was sad at that saying and went away grieved, for he had great possessions.
  • It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God — with men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible; you do not have to give everything away, but nothing can be allowed to stand between you and God.

Scriptures: Mark 10:13-52

Greatness Is Serving

  • On the way up to Jerusalem he told the twelve what would happen to him: delivered to the chief priests, condemned, mocked, scourged, spit upon, killed — and the third day he shall rise again.
  • James and John asked to sit, one on his right hand and the other on his left, in his glory; he answered that they would drink of his cup and be baptized with his baptism, but those seats are not his to give.
  • They which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, but so shall it not be among you: whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister, and whosoever will be chiefest shall be servant of all.
  • At Jericho, blind Bartimaeus cried, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me; Jesus stood still, and said, go thy way, thy faith hath made thee whole — and he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way.

Scriptures: Mark 10:13-52

praise the Lord everyone we greet you tonight in that wonderful name of the Lord Jesus Christ that magnificent Magnum magnanimous magnifical those are some of the ways that it is spelled and that name is Jesus neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved it's so good to see every one of you here tonight I would make mention that our sister Brian went to be with the Lord this last week and they're having a homegoing memorial service the 16th of March I extended that out but it will be at the funeral home and they'll be in in the paper a little bit later on and we'll be telling you about it she's one of our old Saints she was 95 I believe it was and she was a once a Sunday school teacher a missionary secretary and they were she and brother Elmer were very active in this church for many many years and we want to remember them we are beginning a new series tonight and uh this new series is putting others first putting others first this series putting others first we'll take a look at Jesus how he loved the unlovable how he took time for folks that others would ordinarily not take time for he administered to the young rulers he ministered to the blind the lame the adulterers and adulteresses and this is what we're going to be dealing with in this series of of lessons and ministering to others and we believe in this here at First Apostolic church because our theme is our goal is Souls and we want to keep reminded of that William Booth he was the founder of the Salvation Army and he was known for his passionate commitment to loving and serving people particularly the poorest residence of the poorest sections of London now this is the group that you see every year around Christmas at all these department stores uh Walmart and all the rest with the little uh a bucket of assort hanging in a little tripod that you can put money in and there'd be someone sitting there and ring a bell and this is the Salvation Army and I've heard it said that sometimes they do more in in disasters in some situations even than the Red Cross and I don't want to cast my vote one way or the other both do great things for the poor the down out many inspiring quotes about evangelism and Christian service have been attributed to booth one of the most insightful quotes attributed to him is also the shortest in 1910 the leaders of the Salvation Army invited the Aged Booth to address their annual convention scheduled to convene during the Christmas season Booth's Health had deteriorated so much that he was not able to attend as a matter of fact he died a couple of years later since he could not be present the meetings organizer asked him to send a telegram to be read to those in attendance considering this was 1910 the means of communication was much different than it is now and sending messages via telegram was costly and it was costly for him having limited means himself so Booth would make his remarks brief the telephone the telegraph operator charged it by the words the ministry's funds were limited so William Booth would have to find some way to inspire his fellow workers using as few words as possible according to the story Booth pondered what he would say that would communicate the feelings that had inspired him to devote his life to ministering to those in need he wanted to say something to motivate Salvation Army personnel who had been selfish selflessly giving their time and energy during the coldest and darkest months of the year to serve their poorest and most vulnerable Neighbors when the day of the convention arrived the meeting Hall filled with delegates from who were eager from to hear from their founder when it was announced that Booth was not able to be present the disappointment was palatable but spirits lifted when someone opened the telegram from booth and the moderator prepared to read the founders brief remarks on the telegram Booth shared a single word a word that succinctly summarized his life's work and vision he had for the organization he founded the message simply read in one word others quote unquote others that single word also summarizes what motivated the ministry of Jesus Christ outlined his ministry his mission and a simple statement to his disciples Mark 10 45 for even the son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many well Jesus is the head of our organization of our church it's an organism and Jesus was our pattern for what we need to attempt to do in this present world and that is to minister to others and in our presence Society we sometimes pick out certain groups that we are more given to a minister of two then to others and we need to look at what Jesus did and who he ministered to and let that be a pattern for us to whom we would Minister now as a broad statement John 3 16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his own begotten son that whosoever would believe on him without perish but have everlasting life it was not God's will but any should perish so it's our mission to minister to everyone just a few months ago we talked uh brother Nate Whitley got us started in the book of Jude it was one chapter and we took weeks a chapter would take 15 minister at the most probably five minutes to read and uh I think all four of us pastors have given it a whack at preaching from the book of Jude which was one chapter well the one verse that I I zeroed in on as uh Jude said to minister troops making a difference well my point I got out of that was that we have to use different tactics and different means to reach different people we don't just get up and say take it or leave it I've heard preachers actually say that in the Pulpit bless God take it or leave it get in get out or get run over that's a catchy little saying but it's really not a good policy to live by as a church that's trying to win the world so in this series we're going to be talking about putting others first and that's not easy for us to do right in the very first verses of our lesson tonight of course the focus verse is for even the son of man came not to be ministered to but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many but our lesson text starts on the in the 10th chapter of Mark and the 13th verse and they brought young children to him that he should touch them and his disciples rebuke those that brought them but when Jesus saw it he was much displeased and said unto them suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of God and verily I say unto you whosoever shall receive the kingdom of God as a little child he shall whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child he shall not enter therein and he took them up in his arms and put his hands upon them and bless them now in those days children were not prized as much as they are today we have at least two occasions where the political Powers started putting to death all the babies are baby boys under a certain age trying to eliminate the coming Messiah and King of the Jews so uh we even have a record of where the Israelites got off into idol worship and even participated in the worship of Molech the god of fire that they would actually uh to appease their God pitch the little infant babies in the belly of a great old big furnace made in the form of a of a big pot gutted creature and that was their sacrifice to their idol God and even Solomon when the two women was in discussion over uh the baby one baby got smothered to death in the night both women had had babies recently and the woman that had rolled over on her baby and smothered it she claimed the other woman's baby and the way Solomon determined which was which he said bring the baby and bring a sword and said we'll cut the baby in half and give half to this woman half well the woman whose baby it was not so that sounds fair to me we'll do it just that way but the true mothers cried out no no no no give her the baby give her the baby and at that Solomon knew that that was the true mother and this was one of the points of realizing that uh Solomon was a great man of wisdom so who do we put first in our lives well uh we we love children here at First Apostolic Church and while we we want them taught correctly to respect the house of God and so forth but I don't ever want this place to ever be a place that children feel uncomfortable and feel ill at ease being here now they will sometimes get a little Rowdy and they will have to be corrected but now you don't every time a child moves a little bit you don't get all out of sorts uh well time will come we'll find a a few tooth marks on the back of the pews here where they cut their teeth and while we want to take care of our our furniture we prize the marks of the children that that come our way and you heard me I last Wednesday night I guess it was I told about Orion uh brother and sister uh Lambert's little boy he's a grown man now but he'd jumped off of the platform and I I hadn't actually even noticed it and brother Lambert brought him up to me in on the platform and said now go ahead and apologize to Bishop McCool for you know jumping off of the platform and and with his head down a little bit embarrassed he apologized to me and then when he apologized to me I said that's all right I got him there that he jumped right off of the platform right there I'll remember that as long as I live I guess because I thought he was so cute um you say be still and nature says squirm and wiggle and and so we're gonna have to find a a meeting place we have a lot of funny stories about children one of the Fondest Memories I have when Anthony and Ashley were children just little bitty things their mother and father were both very deeply engaged in their education working on their degrees and and that gave system a cool in myself the great and happy privilege of getting to keep them a lot of the times and at that time I was very active in the organization I was on several different committees and one of the Committees was on the side committee finding the place to have General conferences so I had to travel over large parts of the United the this part of the United States and so Mark and Jamie pastor and sister McCool all say it that way for this occasion they allowed us to take them with us just yes we we took them to Texas we took them to Florida North Carolina Michigan everywhere and we enjoyed them so much and of course one of the I'll tell you two stories that were so precious to me we were going to Texas and this was that the first time Anthony wasn't even born yet and Ashley was so small and was trying to keep her entertained she sat between us back then the children didn't set in car seats they sat right between you and um and we had a little song we started singing uh and poor little Robin walking to Missouri came up board to fly poor little Robin walking to Missouri God appeared up in his eye well we thought that was funny but she broke down and started crying and we had because she was feeling sorry for poor little Robin and so we changed it there was some some country song going big that about that time that said All My Exes Live in Texas that's why I hang my hat in Tennessee so I cut loose thing of that and I I got her mind off a poor little Robin and got her laughing and All My Exes Live in Texas that's why I hang my hat in Tennessee she sung right along with us and when we got back to Knoxville she went in this Sunday school room and I believe it might have been sister Peggy I'm not sure I asked if any of them had a song to sing and he did and you can guess what she sung All My Exes Live and the teacher said honey who taught you that she said mamaw now what could be more precious than that the only other thing I could think of was when they would get get out of bed and Mark and pastor and sister Jamie if I say Mark and Jamie that's my son and daughter-in-law in case you wonder that's not out of disrespect that's that's out of endearment but then to get out of bed and uh that we live our driveways came together and they would head across that street dragging their little blankets and they had a little dog named Murphy and Murphy knew where they were going and he would outrun them all and every time and and Ashley was a little faster than Anthony at that time but when they'd get to our front door Anthony will be sending me search me search me search me sirs he wanted to be the first one in the in the door and of course they was work a little of course Murphy was faster than all of them but I'm telling some little things here that uh that that are that are dear with children and you better you better enjoy everything I've heard folks talk about I'll be glad when they're going you better hold on they'll be gone too soon if you're not not careful and you better enjoy them that I'm still enjoying them and and the great grandchildren the future asked the little boy could he say the Lord's Prayer he said yes he said Our Father which art in heaven how did you know my name so there's a lot of a little funny things that happen that uh as uh has to do with children so getting into our lesson I've taken quite a bit of time to talk about some sideline things but I think they're they're still important to me and it was important to Jesus and in Mark 10 13 they brought young children to him that he should touch them and his disciples rebuked those that brought them and when Jesus saw it he was much displeased as said to them suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such as the kingdom of heaven verily I say unto you whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child he shall not enter therein and it took them up in his arms and put his hands upon them and bless them then in Mark 9 42 he said and whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and he were cast into the sea now I repented when I was seven years old I was I was so serious uh out behind the schoolhouse they wouldn't let them have Revival and they could have square dances and box suppers and things like that but they couldn't have have a Revival there and that they wanted way back way back then they were afraid of getting the government and the church mixed up so they said but uh an old preacher and my grandmother uh held a Revival out behind the my school house and hung lanterns from the limbs of the trees and as far as I can remember I was the only convert in that Revival they had boards laid across the bar stumps and and I went to The Altar and and I repented of my sins when I was seven years old I was just as sincere with God as I am right now and um how when the preacher finally finished he said if there's no one coming to the altar you may be dismissed and they all left and from that time many times every time they had an altar call and I wanted the Holy Ghost because I had my grandmother taught me that you got the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues and my mother and uh I would go to the Altar and if I was the only one of the altar of time and again I've had them if there's no one coming to the altar tonight you may be dismissed well there was somebody in the altar but I was just a little child and and it would I'd go home crying because there's nobody to pray for me and let me say to this congregation I don't have to caution you because I don't care who comes to this altar how rich how poor how young how old they don't need to come by themselves and when we when we're singing in the end of a service they're a preacher may not we used to say now we're going to give the altar call they don't hardly ever say that anymore but we had songs that like oh why not tonight you're drifting too far far from the shore and we had songs that were along that line and folks would come to the altar well we still have that and we may not do it the same way but don't let a soul come to this Altar and kneel without somebody getting with them now use use good discretion you use good wisdom don't grab a hold of them and shake them and raise their hands and make sure you hadn't had garlic for supper or something a strong meal to make sure you got some breath mint or something they'll get in their face and and turn their stomach but they show a good wisdom and discretion when you do that but no matter who it is and also be careful I believe it was um it was Pastor Woodward that at our marriage Retreat told about his wife life she was a very Godly woman and she prayed a lot but he said the one thing that would really get get her upset is if she went to the altar she would be praising God and she was seeking God and folks gathered around and start laying hands on praying for her like she was needing the Holy Ghost so she's a backslid or something he said she'd want to turn to smack them now I'm dealing with something a little bit delicate right here and I know that but sometimes our visiting preachers has us to lay hands on one another and and I don't think it's the best idea for it to go around laying hands on everybody because uh sometimes you you're not qualified you if the person may uh may mistake it uh one not the at the old church I was down front and uh I was I was praying and I felt hands go on me and I smelt the strongest perfume I'd ever smelt and before I knew what happened the spirit of the Lord came on me and I and I turned before and I had that little slammed in the front seat come to find out he wasn't qualified for hands on anybody he needed hands laid on him but I I I I just laid him down to the in the Pew and and prayed started praying for me and the Bible said lay hands suddenly on no man and of course I know what that means you don't uh lay hands on somebody to call him to preach uh waiting at the right time are you folks still follow me uh I I I'm not I'm not really uh yelling and preaching big and loud but I hope you understand what I am saying and hardly getting into my scripture yet but I do think this is this is good teaching and use good wisdom before you lay hands on anybody the Bible said any sick among you let them call for the Elders of the church and let them anoint them with oil and pray over them in the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord shall raise them up and the committed in his sins that it shall be forgiven them so when you pray for someone you use wisdom use discretion and I have seen people the hands on folks in a rough way I mean and and and I've had folks to complain about that that somebody laid hands on them in such an Abrupt way and this is not to say that if God leads you and lays on your heart to touch somebody and pray for them that's all right but you you can't shake the Holy Ghost into anybody and you can't tell them enough hallelujahs to say to you didn't get the Holy Ghost but they need you by their side to know that there's someone there praying for them are you understand what I'm saying are you still with me now give the Lord a hand clap all right so we're starting out talking about little children now and and don't don't neglect them when they come to the altar pray for them and uh you don't know at what age they can and will get the Holy Ghost and there's one thing about it they are so sincere uh there's so many little stories that I've heard through the years about and the little children can be so honest and at what they're praying for and we've got one of the sweetest pictures I I've ever seen uh uh it was uh Nathan's sister uh Whitley and brother Whitley's see I keep slipping up calling by the first name brother the sister Whitney their refrigerator went dead on them and they got a picture of Easton laying hands on that refrigerator and praying for that refrigerator and and the best of my recollection and came back alive for a period of time sister McCool and Anna Revival in Columbus Ohio we were standing in the assistant pastor's home he was on vacation and we was holding a Revival there the pastor was there and that refrigerator went dead on us and and they were gone and up they'll think we'd done something to that and we laid hands on that refrigerant I'm I'm not putting out a sign to call me to come pray for your refrigerator but it started working and but I tell you when they get 20 years old they they usually die that usually happens but anyway I'm talking about the the children being sincere with the Lord a worker at Stanford Hospital related this story about a little girl by the name of Lisa who was suffering from a rare and serious disease her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her five-year-old brother who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness the doctor explained the situation to her little brother and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sin to his sister he hesitated for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying yes I'll do it if it'll save Lisa as the transfusion progressed he lay in a bed next to his sister and smiled as all the room smiled seeing the color returning to her cheeks then his face grew pale and his smile faded he looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice will I start to die right away being young the little boy had misunderstood the doctor he thought he was going to have to give all his blood to his sister and when he was gone forth into the way there came one running and kneeled to him and said good Master what shall I do let me tell you Who besides that little boy or a child like that would give their blood and the thinking that he was giving all of his blood this is what Jesus did on the cross he gave his blood for you and me that we might have eternal life and we need to keep that in mind uh verse verse 17 when he was going forth into the way there came one running and kneeled to him and asked him good Master what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life and Jesus said unto him why call us thou me good there is none good but one and that is God I guess that's one of the strongest Oneness scriptures in the Bible Jesus said why call us thou May good there is none good but one and that's God if Jesus wasn't God he wasn't good and what in what situation could you say Jesus wasn't good he was good from head to toe never was a god found in his mouth and he saying this was such a powerful statement why call us thou me good there's none good but one and that is God and then he said to the young man thou knowest the Commandments do not commit adultery do not kill do not steal do not bear false witness to fraud not under thy father and mother and he answered and said unto him master all these things have I observed from my youth well looks like he's end on it but wait a minute then Jesus beholding him loved him now there's one thing we know about this young man whatever the next sentence is going to be we know the Bible said one thing about it Jesus loved him whoever comes to this altar whoever comes through those doors I don't care what they look like smell like what they've been doing with their you and I must have a love for Souls I don't care how mean they've been I don't care how low they've been the Bible said Jesus love him do we really love sorts now I I there's some preachers that love crowds but they don't love people now that may sound a little strange but it's true there's folks that love they want a big crowd they love crowds but do they really love souls oh we would love to see this building ever service every cue filled to capacity but would we love every one of them we must if there's 10 here if there's three here or if there's 1200 here we must have a love for lost souls the Bible said that Jesus loved him now there's something fiction that come up next because he he thought he was all right he said all these things have I observed for my youth up and then Jesus beholding him loved him said unto them one thing that I like us there's one thing you like go thy way sell whatsoever thou Hast and give to the poor and thou shall have Treasures in Heaven and come and take up the cross and follow me now think about that Jesus now there was an old story we used to brother Bobby and I used to sing a song I'm a child of a king child of a king with Jesus my Savior I'm a child of a king and then there's some verses of it that Blended in with the little story you were told uh this fella that worked on a farm and he was a day laborer he didn't have much he was just just worked a day by day pay and the boss man came after one time and and all that he heard him singing that song I'm a child of a king a child he said sir he said some you're not a child of a king you're a daily but look at here you're you're feeding the Hogs and and you're you're waiting the mud and he said but how do you get so how do you stay so happy all the time what can I do to be as happy as yours well he said sir you see that Loblolly over there where those Hogs said get down over there and Walla in it you can be as happy as I am and he just just went over so that's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard in my life and but it kept on singing this song Every Day I'm a child of a king I'm a child of a king and one day the fella came in and he said sir son I I know that sounds crazy but if it takes that I'm going to get down there and I'm going to wallow with them Hogs just like you said he said no sir you don't have to do that you just have to get willing to do it and that's the secret right there you don't have to give everything you've got away you've just got to be willing to you've got to not let anything stand between you and God anything you love more than God is standing between you and him so I'm persuaded to believe that that this man now in the story that Jesus told about the prodigal he spent all his his father's inheritance that he gave him and and there was a famine he began to be in a walk he went into the field to feed swine and he didn't have anything to eat other than the the husk of the Hogs did eat and finally he said I will arise and go back to my father and say to my father I've sinned against Heaven against you no more worthy to be called and the story that Jesus told he came back home and the father put a ring on his hand put a robe on his back shoes on his feet kill the fatted calf and he showed how much love the father had for that wayward son so what we're what we're saying here now Jesus said sell what you got and give to the poor what we've got to do if we have hoarded if we have been been skimping we've cheated and got this the the this is what the the tax collector Zacchaeus did he's he when he went home with Jesus he said oh if I've taken anything unjust I'll pay it back and forth and I mean he went down the street knocking on doors and anybody he had taken money from and just said he paid them back four fold so what I'm saying right now I don't believe there is a command here for everybody just because you have something that you've got to give it away but you've got to be willing to you cannot let your bank account stand between you and God you can't let you and your Investments stand between you and God and I believe this Jesus knew the man's heart that he didn't love the Lord enough to give it notice what it said and he was sad at that saying and went away grieved for he had great possessions so the point of this is whether the men would have really had to have done that I don't know but I do know this that I don't care what you have it could be very little but you're unwilling to give it up for the Lord or you could have a vast wealth and it means more to you than Jesus you're you're going to have to get sell ever sell out I don't the Bible tells about the the man that found treasure hid in the field and the Bible said he went and sold everything he had and bought that field he didn't rent the field he sold everything in and bought it now the point of this is if you're going to walk with Jesus you've got to buy the field you've got to be willing to buy the truth yet the Bible said to buy the truth and sell it not you've got to be able to buy Holiness you've got to be able to and you're willing to buy righteousness and living a good life when the Bible said for signatures yourself from getting together you've got to be willing to gather together forsake not yourself gather together in his name you got to be willing I I here I go teaching and start preaching gets excited I can't even adequately quote my scripture but what I am trying to say that I believe you are understanding hope you do that nothing little or much if that means more to you than Jesus you're not worthy of him this young man went away sad before he had great possessions Jesus looked around about and said unto his disciples how hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God and the disciples were astonished at his words but Jesus answered again instead of them children how hard is it for them to trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God just here's what Jesus said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God now what is our lesson about what it takes them we're talking about others are are we intimidated by others are we willing are we able to witness and testify to somebody that has much or are we willing and able to witness to someone that has very little we must look at All Souls alike yeah a real a little funny story jumps in my brain all of a sudden a a young man that's his older preacher said that I'm so nervous how do you preach to people without getting nervous you say well listen I used to practice some Cabbage Patch I'd get out of 10 I'd pretend that those cabbage heads were people and I'd preached to them and said now when I preach before congregation I pretend that they're cabbage is whether that's a true story or not it might be a good thing to live by in other words don't be intimidated by the riches nor by the poverty and Jesus looking upon them said with men it isn't now look here's what they said and they were astonished out of me as you're saying among themselves who then can be a a camel going to the eye of a needle now I've heard all the explanations about that that there's a place over in the Holy Land that's a very narrow area that a camel can get through but and they call it the needle's eye but he has to get down on his knees and then they said take the hiding hair to get through it but they can but they got to get and they liken that to what we have to do with if we got riches and sometimes uh whether that's the real explanation I don't know but Jesus said it's easier for a camel to because I have a needle whether this was a a just a particular it doesn't matter it just says what it really means is that anything that you cannot do for him it's going to keep you from entering the Kingdom of Heaven be willing to do whatsoever the Lord says and and remember he he tells us all to be reasonable said uh to present your bodies a Living Sacrifice which is your reasonable service and Jesus is looking upon them said with men it is impossible but not with God for With God all things are possible then Peter began to say to him Lo we have left all and have followed thee now let me pause right there just a minute this kind of gives me a an idea uh that is strictly an idea and cannot be proven or disproven it may be now these uh Peter and John they were fishermen and you remember when Jesus came along and he said uh drop your nests and follow me and I'll make you pictures of him and they literally let their daddy their daddy on the boat they were in the fishing business and and they they let their their occupation their Nets and their left and started to following Jesus now I don't know what it may have been that Jesus was getting ready to call this rich young man to be a a great man like the Apostle Paul or like Luke The Physician uh I I we I don't know but for some reason he wanted him to sell all and and follow him he said to do that well Peter began to say Lo we've left all and followed thee and Jesus answered and said verily I say unto you there is no man that had left house or Brethren our sisters our fathers our mother our wife our children our lands for my sake and the gospels but he shall receive a hundredfold now and this time houses and Brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands with persecutions and in this world to come eternal life now don't jump at that and say now the Lord said to me and leave my wife and go follow him no I've left my wife a many a Time Jesus had had Marc Anthony in school and she couldn't go with him and I would I'd have to go and I always hated to leave her behind but I had to and there's situations that that that's the way it is when the wife he didn't mean to divorce her to go and and preach the gospel he meant that nothing absolutely nothing stands between you and God but he said but many that are first shall be last and the last first and they were in the way going up to Jerusalem and Jesus went before them and they were amazed and as they followed they were afraid and he took again the 12 and began to tell them what things should happen to the to him saying behold we go up to Jerusalem and the son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priest and to the scribes and they shall condemn him to death and shall deliver him to the Gentiles and they shall mock him and shall Scourge him and shall spit upon him and shall kill him and the third day he shall rise again now here your leader is and he's already said he promised never to leave them nor forsake them and he'd always be with them now then he's breaking some news to them that it's going to be very hard for them to digest and to accept what's going to happen to me when I I'm going to well pray till if that's what's going to happen if you're going to go to Jerusalem go somewhere else no that's the will of God that he go and that he suffer these things we're seeing tonight what he did for others and James and John the sons of Zebedee came unto him said Master now hold on we're almost well I can I can finish this until I've got my myself time trade 45. and James and John the sons of Zebedee came with him saying Master we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we desire now listen we're going to see some human nature coming out and now these were disciples he were Apostles these were men of God and I want you to notice their attitude James and John said Master we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire and he said to them well what would you that I should do for you tell me what do you want and they said to him Grant unto us that we may sit one on my right hand and the other on my left hand and thy Glory pastor preached on this just the other day did a fantastic job remember that I wanted one to be on this side and wonder what Jesus said to them you don't know what you asked can you drink the cup that I drink of and be baptized with a baptism that I'm baptized with they said to them we can and Jesus said to them ye shall indeed drink of the cup and drink them and use your ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of and with the baptism that I'm baptized with all shall ye be baptized but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared you are indeed on the suffer some things that you don't realize right now you're going to be baptized with the baptism of fire you're going to be baptized for the baptism of a criticism and persecution but it's not mine to give you to settle on the right hand and the left and notice the next verse Jesus called then to him and said to them you know what they asked but so shall it be among you but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister leaving out a sentence is very important you don't know what you know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them and they're great ones exercise Authority upon them but so shall it not be among you but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister and whosoever of you will be the chiefess shall be servant of all we're still talking about others serving others for even the son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister and to give his life a ransom from any and they came to Jericho and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people blind Bartimaeus the sonatime is set by the wayside or the highway be begging and when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth he began to cry out and say Jesus thou son of David have mercy on me and many charged him that he said hold his peace but he cried the more a great deal thou son of David have mercy on me and Jesus Stood Still and commanded him to be called and they called the blind man singing to him be of good cheer comfort and Rise he called a thief and he casting away his girl arose and came to Jesus and Jesus answered and said to him What wilt thou that I should do unto thee the blind man said to him Lord that I might receive my sight and Jesus said unto him go thy way thy faith has made the whole and immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way would you stand to your feet with us I've got less than a minute to be the time I've got set for myself you can be thankful that I'd that I've got a time that I refuse to go over unless the Holy Ghost was to just get a hold of everything father we thank you tonight for your goodness and mercy we thank you for this good congregation these precious saints of God who love the word love to study it love to talk about it and grow in the grace of God I pray Lord you let this word sink deep into our hearts and that we may grow and be more like you every day until it's time for us to go home with a Rapture takes place dismiss us from this place but not from your presence in Jesus name we pray amen you're dismissed in Jesus name don't forget thee all the announcements
