Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews
- The lesson text is John 3: there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews — a member of the grand Sanhedrin, and by reputation a man so rich he could support all the inhabitants of Jerusalem for ten years.
- From the lesson's commentary reading (Adam Clark is the teacher's favorite commentator): the Pharisees derived their name from the word signifying to set apart; they were proud and held the common people in disrespect — but this people who knoweth not the law are cursed — yet there were honorable exceptions, and we must be careful not to write anybody off.
- Nicodemus came to Jesus by night — perhaps appointed by a counsel of his fellows to ask the questions privately — and opened with compliments: Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
- Jesus answered none of the compliments, only the need: verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God; except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God — that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit; marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.
Scriptures: John 3:1-7; John 7:49
Secret disciples who stood up
- A Pharisee doctor of the law — the teacher under whom the apostle Paul grew up — stood in the council when the apostles were tried and counseled: take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men; if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought, but if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it.
- Joseph, an honorable counsellor who also waited for the kingdom of God, went in boldly unto Pilate and craved the body of Jesus; the same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them.
- Nicodemus defended Jesus before his own council — doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? — and was answered, art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.
- Joseph and Nicodemus took the body of Jesus down and wound it in linen clothes with a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds, and laid him in the new sepulchre in the garden — the Bible calls both men disciples of Jesus, secretly, for fear of the Jews.
- The teacher's own story makes the point: seven businessmen who studied the Bible weekly invited him in, heard the Apostolic fundamentals taught, asked for a week, and answered that they could not find one thing wrong with the teaching — and still would not be baptized, because they had been another way so long. Many would be here tonight if it were not for the pressure around them.

Born of water and of the Spirit
- The three that bear witness agree in one — the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; the water of John 3:5 is not natural birth but the water in the baptistry, where we baptize in the name of Jesus.
- John said, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.
- In John's day his baptism was essential: all the people and the publicans justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John, but the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
- Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man mighty in the scriptures and fervent in the spirit, taught diligently the things of the Lord knowing only the baptism of John — until Aquila and Priscilla took him aside and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
- At Ephesus Paul found certain disciples and asked, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? Baptized unto John's baptism, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus when they heard, and when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came on them.
Scriptures: 1 John 5:7-8; Matthew 3:11; Luke 7:29-30; Acts 18:24-26; Acts 19:1-6
The name, and the master of Israel
- Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name — singular — of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: the question is, what is the name? Jesus came in his Father's name, and said, I and my Father are one.
- Nicodemus answered, how can these things be? and Jesus said, art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen — if I have told you earthly things and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you of heavenly things?
- No man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven — on earth and in heaven at once, which only God can be; and as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
- For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son: God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved; he that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- Who raised Jesus from the dead? He answered it himself: destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up — he spoke of the temple of his body; to say God raised him and to say he raised himself is no contradiction.
Scriptures: Matthew 28:19; John 10:30; John 3:9-18
The born-again pattern in Acts
- On the day of Pentecost — the opening of the New Testament church — they were all with one accord in one place, and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- Philip preached at Samaria and they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, but the Holy Ghost was fallen upon none of them, until the apostles sent Peter and John, who prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost.
- At the house of Cornelius the order reversed: the Holy Ghost fell on the Gentiles as Peter preached, they spoke with tongues and magnified God, and Peter answered, can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? — and commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
- The teacher tells of the radio announcer who came to his office with his wife to hear the Acts 2:38 message explained, then asked, do you keep water in your baptistry? — and was baptized with his wife in Jesus' name that day; that is for you, and your children, and them that are afar off.

are you ready to get into the word of the Lord tonight got a good crowd of people here tonight to hear and to participate in our Bible study and our Bible study tonight has a very familiar title that every one of us should be familiar with it says You must be born again you must be born again Hallelujah what else do we need to say the lesson text is taken from John 3 and I'm going to start reading at verse 1 and I'm going to as I'm studying this it occurred to me that it might be well to have some commentary from those that may not be of the apostolic faith necessarily and I will be be quoting a reading quite a bit from Adam Clark he's my favorite uh commentator on the Bible and though he's trinitarian there's so many things he writes that he affirms that Jesus is God again and again I have material in my uh electronic scrapbook where Billy Graham uh just affirms solidly and firmly that Jesus was the very God the great God and if a person is not pushed in a corner and forced to try to defend a Dogma that they were brought up with or taught in a particular Church they will give honor that Jesus is God manifest in the flesh but our scripture starts with John 3 and 1 there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus a ruler of the Jews I'm going to stop right there there was a man there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus and I wanted to find out a little bit more about Nicodemus and so let me read you some things I found out Nicodemus a ruler of the Jews one of the members of the grand Sanhedrin for such were ordinarily styled rulers among the Jews a person of this name by the name of Nicodemus reputed to be so rich that he could support all the inhabitants of Jerusalem for 10 years the Pharisees were the most numerous and Wealthy sect of the Jews they derived their name from the Hebrew word which signifies to set apart or to separate because they separated themselves from the rest of their countrymen and professionally devoted themselves to special strictness in religion they were proud haughty self-righteous and held the common people in great disrespect John 7 49 they made this statement but this people who knoweth not the law are cursed they sought the offices of the state and affected great dignity they were ostentatious in their religious worship pray in the corners of the streets and seeking publicity in the bestowment of alms that saw principally external cleanliness and dealt much in the ceremonial Evolution and washing they maintained some of the laws of Moses very strictly in addition to the written laws they held to a multitude which they maintained had come down from Moses by tradition these they felt themselves as much bound to observe as the written law now let me remind you this chapter starts out by saying there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus so we've already found out he was an extremely wealthy man and he was a leader among the Pharisees and the way he phrased his words it sounds like that he may have been asked he may have had a counsel with his fellow counselors and they may have decided to send him to ask these questions of Jesus and this is the reason they had a night meeting just Nicodemus and Jesus they themselves felt as much bound to observe the written law as the written law under the influence of these laws they washed themselves before meals with great scruple in this they fasted twice a week on Thursday when they suppose that Moses ascended Mount Sinai and on Monday when he descended they were broad phylacteries now that word phylacteries was a a leather little leather box that they actually wore bound to their head and on their left arm now they wanted everybody to know how religious they were and that little box that they went went in the forehead and wrapped around their head and it had a paper with scriptures written on it and this was to keep them reminded constantly hear all Israel the Lord our God is one Lord so you see they made every effort to let everybody know they were religious and of the Jewish faith now while we have quite a bit of criticism concerning the Pharisees we might be reminded that there are those who uh in every religion there will be some that will go to the extremes and others will be definitely sincere keep this keep this in mind and um and the uh the chief said they love the chief seats in the synagogues in general they were a corrupt hypocritical office-seeking holiday class of men there are however some honorable exceptions recorded now keep these in mind there were some honorable exceptions that everybody's not like certain ones if we're not careful sometimes some of us in in the apostolic faith if you don't live the life you don't walk the walk uh you'll have everybody thinking that that's what everybody else is but now uh we have some notable exceptions in Acts 5 34 there stood and there stood there up one in the Council of Pharisee named gamilio a doctor of the law now this was the professor and doctor of the law that the Apostle Paul grew up under he was the teacher of the Apostle Paul and had in reputation among all the people and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space now I'm reading scripture now not commentary the apostles had performed great Miracles and because of this they had been thrown in prison and an angel of God came down and opened the prison doors and they were commanded not to speak in that name anymore but the angel opened the doors of the prison shut the doors back and locked them and told them to go to the temple and start preaching and teaching the same thing they'd been teaching so they did just that early in the morning they were in the house of God teaching and uh the the priest said go get those fellas and that were locked up and we're gonna we're gonna try them and where they went they came back and they told the chief priest truly we found the prison doors closed secured but said they're not there what are we going to do tell everybody I said well they're done they're at the at the temple and they're preaching in that same name that you told them not to preach in so now then they brought him before the council and they begin to to talk to them now gamiliel he was a Pharisee and he said unto them ye men of Israel take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men verse 36 for before these days rose up the eutus boasting himself to be somebody to whom a number of men about 400 joined themselves who were slain and all as many as obeyed him were scattered and brought to know after this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing and Drew away much people after him he also perished and all even as many as obeyed him were dispersed I'm still reading the words of gameliel the uh uh one of the chief Pharisees and now I say unto you refrain from these men and left them alone for at this Council or this work be of men it will come to naught but if it be of God you can cannot overthrow it lest happily ye be found even to fight against God and then we find in Mark 15 43 Joseph of armatheon an honorable counselor which also waited for the kingdom of God came and went in boldly unto pilate and craved the body of Jesus we all know about Joseph of armatheon it was said that he buried Jesus in his own tomb Luke 23 51 the same had not consented to the council and deed of them he was of armathea a city of the Jews who also himself waited for the kingdom of God and we don't know how many Pharisees were converted but we do know this that Joseph of armathea that he begged the body of Jesus and Nicodemus who were studying about tonight who was a chief Pharisee he was one that came with Joseph of armathea with a hundred pounds of ointment and that took down the body of Jesus and proceeded to embalm that body of Jesus that's what they were going to do but the angel beat them to it now they were able to take him down from the cross and put him in the in the Tomb but they were Witnesses of of what had happened the resurrection of Our Lord then in John 19 and after this Joseph of armathea being a disciple of Jesus now notice Joseph of vermontia was a disciple of Jesus and I would like to say this we need to be careful and and prayerful and don't write anybody off of winning them to the truth they may not know the episode of Truth and we need to be careful how we approach them or rather than run them off we need to let them know that the Lord wants to give them more light and I'll tell you more about that in a little bit but after Joseph of armathia being a disciple of Jesus but secretly by fear of the Jews besought pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus and pilate gave him leave he came there for and took the body of Jesus and there came also Nicodemus which at first came to Jesus by night and brought a mixture of myrrh and Alloys about a hundred pounds worth they took and then took they the body of Jesus and wounded and linen clothes with the splices as the manner of the Jews is to Bear it evidently they they did administer the spices and wrapped him up in the the linen cloth now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden and in the garden a new Sepulcher wherein was never a man yet laid there laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jewish preparation day for the Sepulcher was nigh at hand then in John 7 50-55 Nicodemus saith of them he that came to Jesus by Night being one of them now he being on the council the Council of nicaea and this was the Supreme Council like our supreme court today it was the highest court of the Jews and they fashioned it after the seventy that God told Moses to set aside in his day and they were the ones that judged the overall operation and he was standing before the chief priest and he said our law judge any man before to hear him and know what he'd doeth the answer to seven him or thou also of Galilee search and look for Alexander Lee and Rise of no prophet and every man went to his own house they was getting back and Nicodemus now I read these verses to point out something that these two prominent Pharisees these two prominent men who were so well-versed and also evidently extremely wealthy that they stood up for the apostles when they were brought before the high priest and and Nicodemus gave this point he said do you judge any man before you give him a chance they wanted to Railroad him and so they were they were trying to steer them back into some uh civil uh order that the way it should be and so now we know by that now the Bible refers to both of these men as being secret disciples because of the fear of the Jews now as I said earlier you and I don't need to Mark anybody off there are folks that would be right here tonight if they were not afraid of the criticism they get for being Apostolic do you hear me their folks have to be right here and and would be obedient if it wasn't for the pressure around them um something happened many years ago there was a group of men I'll not get too specific because I'd rather not uh all of them were passed on this time but I don't want to identify them by name but they were there were several men they seven men and they met they met every week and they studied the Bible and one of these men got to attending our church in fact his pictures in one of our early uh Church directories and they invited me to this as a just the seven that's that's all you can have seven it was their own little organization and uh they invited me to come and I went and they started questioning me about the apostolic faith and I said Brothers I'll be glad they want me to go through the the fundamentals of the water baptism the Oneness of the godhead and I said I'll be glad to do that but I'm going to ask you to do one thing if after I've taught you find me in error that you will be gracious enough to correct me and tell me where I'm wrong and they agreed to that I said now if you can't find anything wrong with it I want to baptize every one of you in Jesus name well I don't recall that they actually openly said they would but they considered they wanted and I went back and set up a tape recorder and um I forget how many weeks but I went back I was like on a Thursday night something and I would teach her about 30 minutes or an hour on the great Apostolic message and when I finish one of these men was a very well-known businessman owned a large company that all of you have eaten his product and and he was a Bible teacher in his church and when I got finished I said now Brothers you've heard it now please be kind enough to show me where I'm wrong in anything they looked at each other and uh the the leader of the group he said would you do this give us a week to study this and come back and meet with us next week and we'll give you our answer so I was anxious to go back the next week and when I came back this brother who was the spokesman he said brother McCool we cannot find one thing wrong with your teaching baptism in Jesus name thy Oneness of the godhead we see that and I said well I'd like the privilege of baptizing you in Jesus name he said brother now these are his words and it kind of put cold chills over me he said brother McCool I agree that what you are teaching is correct and that's the way the Apostle baptized but he said I've been a Sunday school teacher and I've been in my church for so long and he said if I've been wrong all these years I'll just have to stay wrong and and that was the that was the the sentiment of the rest of them and I said that because of what we just talked but there's a lot of folks would be right here right now but there's some things about being Apostolic that they put above the benefits of being Apostolic and this is so important now let's go back to our lesson with verse two remember we said there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus verse 2 says the same came to Jesus by night and said unto him Rabbi notice he said we know that thou art a teacher come from God and no man can do these Miracles that thou doest except God be with him now we know we it sounds like now and the commentary that I read uh agreed with this that it sounds like that he may have been appointed by a group to question Jesus by night not because he was ashamed but because he would have the privacy of asking all he wanted and without all the disturbance of a of a crowd Jesus answered and said unto him verily verily truly truly I say unto thee except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God now with the kind words that a Nicodemus had said a master we know that thou art a teacher come from God because no man could do the things that you do unless God be with him he said all the nice things Jesus did not recognize or did not call any attention to any of his compliments he only said verily verily I say unto thee except the man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God Nicodemus saith in him how can a man be born when he's old can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born and studying this I remembered back in 2001 that would be 22 years ago I I taught or preached a message and I called it a new look at Nicodemus and I'll refer to some of these uh 22 year old notes before I'm finished Nicodemus saith unto him how can a man be born when he's old in my um in my message a new look at Nicodemus I referred to this as a sarcastic statement can a man enter his well maybe I was too hasty to say that but it could have been a little bit um sarcastic or it could have been how could this possibly be and by putting it this way he put emphasis on the impossibility of being born again Nicodemus said that him how can a man be born when he's old can he enter the second time to his mother as a woman to be born Jesus answered verily verily I say unto thee except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God that's which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of spirit is Spirit Marvel not that I say unto thee you must be remembered again now let me say this going to the extremes if it were possible now Jesus said that which is flesh is flesh and that's which experience if Nicodemus could enter his mother's womb and be born again even to be just as bad the second time as it was the first time so you don't get born again the flesh you'll get born again of the spirit if you were born again of the flesh you were born of the flesh the first time a sinner with the old adamic nature and if you got born again of the flesh again it would be the same way no I was in the car with the some prominent preachers several years ago and the West Tennessee among the apostolic Believers many years ago there was a prevalent Doctrine going around that when it said you must be born of water in the spirit that that water meant your natural birth and didn't mean water baptism but now stop and think John said I indeed baptize you with water into repentance but there's one coming after me Mighty of the nine and he will baptize you with the Holy Ghost uh first John 5 and 8 says there are three that bear record in heaven for Bear witness in heaven and the uh the father of the word the Holy Ghost there are three of the roads the water of the spirit of the blood and these three agree in one I've got first John five and seven first John 5 and 8. and these three agree in one the spirit the water and the blood now then this is how we differentiate and understand that you must be born of water and that's the water up there behind that screen where we baptize you in water in the name of Jesus and then right here you're either received the Holy Ghost and in that baptistry are over here or whether it's at home you get the Holy Ghost and speaking of the tongues well let me see let me go back to my notes of 21 years ago 22 years ago and the new birth John 3 3 the new birth which is here spoken of comprehends not only what is term justification or pardon but also sanctification or Holiness sin must be pardoned and the impurity of the heart washed away before and his soul can possibly enter into the kingdom of God as this new birth implies the renewing of the whole soul and righteous isn't true holiness and then I go on in Matthew 3 11 I quoted a minute ago John said I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance but he that cometh after me is mightier than I whose shoes I am not worthy to Bear he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and Fire now John's baptism was essential to Salvation in his day Luke 7 29 and all the people that hurt him and the publicans Justified God being baptized with the baptism of John but the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves being not baptized to him and let me give credit to where credit is due uh brother Les Daniel called this to my attention many years ago and when he first said did you know the baptism of John was essential I really hadn't thought of it like that and he read this scripture to me but the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against himself being not baptized to him in his day it was essential to be baptized unto John's baptism now let me show you something in Acts 18 24-26 and a certain Jew named Apollos born at Alexandria an eloquent man and mighty in the scriptures came to Ephesus this man was instructed in the way of the Lord and being fervent in the spirit he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord knowing only the baptism of John what else was there to know ing that he was an elephant let me read this again get it good hmm this man was instructed in the way of the Lord being fervent in spirit he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord knowing only the baptism of John now we know this uh he was fervent in spirit he was a teacher and he taught the things of the Lord but the Bible said he knew only the baptism of job well what else was there to know and he began to speak boldly in the synagogue whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard they took unto them and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly there are many good people who need the way expounded to them more perfectly what they've done so far has been good and don't ever throw off on people's Church they go to and I've heard people preachers called Church names and and throw off whatever light God Shines on them some of you here tonight were of other Pentecostal Persuasions didn't know this but don't tell you that you didn't have anything when you go I got the Holy Ghost is spoken in tongues before I was baptized in Jesus name don't tell me I didn't have the Holy Ghost I hadn't had the opportunity to get baptized in Jesus name there are many good people who need the way expounded unto them more perfectly the very next chapter chapter 19 we have a clear example of the way being explained now the 19th Chapter of Acts Paul having pastor of the apocals came to Ephesus finding certain disciples he said unto them have you received the Holy Ghost since you believe well they said we hadn't heard where there'll be Holy Ghost he said well under what then were you baptized baptism well now remember this this great this great teacher policy was a great man but he knew only the baptism of John and and Paul said to John's disciples if you received the Holy Ghost said you believe and they said we've not so much of it will be Holy Ghost well then also under what then were you baptized now I don't want to sound um cars or crude or or anything like that but if it doesn't matter how you are baptized and many preachers across the land they will tell you that believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and nothing else you know Works no nothing but now notice Paul said unto what them were you baptized and they said unto John's baptism Paul said John really baptized with the baptism of repentance saying unto the people that they should believe on him which should come after him which was only Christ Jesus when they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord and Paul laid his hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost and spoken oh you said he baptized the name of the Lord well I'll tell you what the name of the Lord is Paul asked that question on the road to Damascus when he was knocked down and the light shine upon him he said Lord who art thou let the Lord tell you who he is and the Lord said I'm Jesus persecutes Hallelujah that's Gilmore hand pack just [Applause] all right here we go we're we're talking about being born again so uh Paul said I don't know what were you baptized in the when he told them as Priscilla and Aquila called aside upon us and expounded him the word more perfectly he knew only the baptism of John so knowing only the baptism of John he needed more truth it now remember we established the fact that he was mighty in the scripture he was Spirit-filled and spoke powerfully but he knew only the baptismal John and Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and expounded the word more perfectly and if we could understand ourselves today this is the greatest truth and it seems uh so very obvious to we to whom this truth has been revealed that um nowhere in the scripture did anybody baptize anybody or anybody was baptized using the trinitarian form no Father Son and Holy Ghost Jesus said in Matthew 28 19 go either that one teach All Nations baptizing them in the name of the Father the Son and Holy Ghost now then the the question is what is the name of the father Jesus said I'm coming my father's name if you if I become my own name you to see me but I come in my father's name and you receive me not Jesus said and John 10 30 I and my father are one they don't realize how Jesus could be God almighty in the flesh and if we will use the right spirit and explaining this I've I've heard preachers and I've seen bumper stickers extra 38 or hell and I don't think that's a a proper thing to put on your bumper uh extra 38 in heaven but not extra 38 hell uh we I think we put forth the wrong idea um so let me go back in verse 9 Nicodemus instead of him how can these things be and Jesus answered and said unto him or thou a master in Israel and knoweth not these things you you don't know these things now Jesus was teaching Nicodemus and this is why I put the scriptures together and the Bible tells us about Joseph of armatheon specifically says he became a disciple and it don't exactly say that Nicodemus did but I do believe that all the evidence point to the fact in fact there's a lot of folks that maybe the priests believed on him and the Bible even said that his own Brethren did not believe on him so there's some scriptures that you gotta let scripture explain scripture so if we'll use the right spirit I think there's folks that's hungry for this great word of God and we are in the best shape that we have ever been in that we can win the loss God has given us the facilities God given us the the message right now I can be speaking to to Russians I can be speaking because this this uh miraculous medium goes around the world that we we call the internet and and I'm not speaking and and trying to condemn the world because and uh it's in the scripture the in the the lesson that we're teaching tonight and later on in that same chapter we'll get we'll get to that um for it said that that for God's in the the let's let's run the head to versa uh versus nine Nicodemus answered how can these things be Jesus answers and him are thou master of Israel knoweth not these things verily rarely are saying that they we speak that we do know and testify that we've seen and received not our ye received not our witness and I've told you Earth the things and you believe not how shall you believe if I tell you of heavenly things no man now notice this this is a scripture that some folks let's Slide by and they don't understand Nicodemus didn't understand some things Jesus said and no man hath ascended up to heaven but he that came down from heaven even the son of man which is in heaven now where was he was he on Earth or was he in heaven only God could be in both places and that's why Jesus said no man that will send it up to heaven save he which come down from heaven the son of man which is in heaven now then we're talking about this great great and wonderful wonderful truth now let me go on as Moses lived up the circle in the wilderness even so the son of manifestibility to them and whatsoever believeth that whosoever believed that him should not perish but have everlasting life now the golden text of the Bible I was about to to read while ago or God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life I was asked to come to to Rockwood several years ago and uh sister uh as brother Sonny Paul and his sister uh Shelby uh there was a a preacher of another denomination was coming to her house and was trying to convince her uh that that this doctor was wrong and so forth uh she asked me if I would come down so I I went down and he uh he started talking and he said if Jesus was God the world was without a god three days and three nights and he said if Jesus was God who raised Jesus from the dead well I very quickly turned to the scripture and he said I know Jesus said I have power to lay down my life but they didn't say that Jesus said destroyed this Temple and in three days I will raise it up again Thus Spoke he of the Temple of his body he said destroy this and in three days all raise it up again so who raised Jesus from the dead Jesus raised him and then the brother went so far as to say the church is the bride of Christ if the church is the bride of Christ who's going to give the bride away well he thought that was really a great great stroke there that and that that God was the the bride groom and Jesus or God was going to get the bride away and so forth well so I turned to the scripture of the the Bible said that talked about uh this church that he's perfected as a bride that he may present it to himself abroad unsponded from the world not being smart alecky not trying to be cute but there's an answer to all these questions Jesus gave them right away Jesus allowed them to put him in the Tomb but Jesus but the Bible Lord say whom God raised from the dead so to say that God raised him from the dead and Jesus raised himself from the dead there is no contradiction it is still yet the truth back to John 3 16 for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son but whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life now notice this for God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him might be saved he that believeth on him is not to them because he didn't believeth not as condemned already because he had not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God so we are talking about this born-again experience and what we would like for everyone to know is that it is for us today on the day of Pentecost this was the opening of the New Testament Church door on the debit card on the damn Pentecost the Bible said and when the day of Pentecostals fully come they were all with one Accord in one place and suddenly there came a son from Heaven as of a rushing Mighty Wind and it felt all the house for labor sitting and the repellent of them cloven tongues like as a fire of the settlements each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost let me get a speech of tongues as the spirit gave utterance now this was the outpouring of the Holy Ghost now from that time on now in the in the eighth chapter of Acts Philip goes down to Samaria and he preaches to them the word of God and they received the word but the Bible said that the apostles were through Jerusalem when they heard that Samaria had received the word of God they sent unto them Peter and John who when they were come down prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost as far as yet he was falling for none of them only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus now you get the point the apostles heard that Philip's gone down to Samaria and the Samaritans have accepted this and and they're getting baptized in Jesus name and they're wonderful but when the Apostle heard that said Mary had received the word of God they sent to them Peter and John who when they will come down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost for as yet he was falling upon none of them only they were they had been baptized but they did not yet have the Holy Ghost in the 10th chapter of Acts 10 acts 10 45 Paul uh Peter had been done uh living at the house of Simon uh and and and by the seashore and an angel appeared uh to Cornelius and said send somebody down to uh jumping and get petered and said he's going to tell you words you're in the house can be saved well Peter got six Jews to take with him so that he wouldn't get accused of false Doctrine and so he came down and when he got there the house was full everybody and the kin folks of Cornelius was there and and Peter began to preach and as he began to preach the Holy Ghost fell and acts 10 45 and the Bible says they have the circumcision of which believe this menus Came From Fear were astonished because of on the Gentiles also was poured out the Holy Ghost for because they heard the spirit now we have the very opposite Samaria received water baptism but didn't get the Holy Ghost and the apostles sent Peter and John down to preacher and they got the Holy Ghost now the very opposite happens in the 10th chapter of Acts they have the circumcision the six Jews that Peter brought with him they were astonished because on the Gentiles also was poured out the Holy Ghost for they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God then answered Peter can anybody I imagine it turns to these six years as Witnesses said get any man forbid water the peace should not be baptized see remember this the the talking to Gentiles now and the Jews and that time they didn't believe the the Gentiles had a chance and he said can any man forbid water the fish should not be baptized which I perceived the Holy Ghost as well as we evidently they didn't say a word and then Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord then prayed they him to tarry certain days we're just stand your feet with us now then oh how I would love so very much and I've had I was talking to him the radio announcer over one of the radio stations I was on in fact one time I was on three times a day and the the announcer that brought me on uh he wanted to come to my office him and his wife and wanted me to explain that extra 38 message and I did and he said brother McCoo do you keep water in your Bachelor I said we sure do he turned to his wife and people in his face of faith are you ready let's get baptized and I baptized that radio announcer and his wife in Jesus name that day oh how I wish to everybody who heard this would not be like those who said I I've been in such such church so long I was if I've been wrong I said listen if I've been wrong I want to get right yes if I've been wrong I I want to get right now I told Lord brothers that I met with and I meant it if if you if you find what I'm preaching or what I'm teaching to be wrong I want you to tell me and I wanted to know and but they said oh we can't find a thing wrong away but because we've been this way so long and evidently didn't dawn them that that it was that important but let me tell you something I don't want to take that chance of not being baptized in Jesus name or not receiving the Holy Ghost that's for you and your children them and are far off let us be much in prayer as we're close tonight sister Jeannie Massengill is is very low and she's a very precious sister we love her very much and she in the messenger family were so uh so much very very much a part of the foundation of this church many years ago and we're still reaping the benefits through brother Justin massingale and Brother David Master Gail and their children and all their families and uh but but she's are cluster crossing over and let's pray for her that God be with her and be with sister Maria she Maria graduation I guess been the first graduating class of the apostolic Christian School let's let's pray for her and all the family that God will give them strength and also sister Lois Miller she's been in the hospital she got released they brought her home from the hospital getting out of the car she fell and injured herself and had to call the ambulance and they put her back in the hospital and I understand she's back in ICU and let's pray for sister Louis Miller tonight and another lady whose name I can't remember but a sister and Weller gave me the request father we thank you tonight for your goodness and mercy we thank you for the word of the Lord I pray oh God that you give us the ability the compassion and love that we may impart this great truth and great message of love and compassion that we may tell it to the world but not be arrogant but make them aware that this great and wonderful truth is to be seen and then it is to be obeyed as we prepare for the coming of the Lord dismiss us from this place but not from your presence in Jesus name amen shake hands and be friendly you're dismissed in Jesus name
