Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

Two texts: grasshoppers and a giant killer

  • He reads the spies' report: they saw the giants, the sons of Anak, and were in their own sight as grasshoppers, and so they were in the giants' sight.
  • He reads David standing upon the Philistine, taking the giant's own sword and cutting off his head, and returning with the head in his hand before Saul.
  • The choice is put to the hearer: you are either a grasshopper or a giant killer.
  • A person's perception of God determines their perception of themselves: the spies' small view of God made them grasshoppers, and perspective works both physically, feeling unable, and spiritually, believing God cannot do it.

Scriptures: Numbers 13:33; 1 Samuel 17:51; 1 Samuel 17:57

Caleb quieted the people

  • The ten spies not only brought a bad report, they told lies about the land God had promised.
  • Caleb tried to quiet the people in verse 30: let us go up at once and take the land, for we can certainly conquer it.
  • In the other translation he quotes, the spies said the land would devour anyone who went to live there, and next to the giants they felt like grasshoppers.

Scriptures: Numbers 13:30

Anointed in the midst of his brethren

  • God sent Samuel to anoint one of the sons of Jesse without telling him which one, letting him be guided by His voice.
  • The eldest was refused: God looks not on the outward appearance or the height of stature, but on the heart.
  • After the sons passed by, the youngest was sent for from keeping the sheep, and Samuel anointed him in the midst of his brethren, and the Spirit of the Lord came upon him from that day.
  • David was anointed but not yet appointed: he went right back to the sheepfold to keep doing what he had been doing, as believers anointed in a Sunday night service go back to work on Monday morning.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 16:6-13

The giant shows up in the valley

  • The armies stood on mountains on either side with a valley between them, and giants show up in the valley, not on the mountaintop: the devil knows when his hearers are low.
  • In the recession years, work pulled people away from church for weeks at a time, and a valley was dug where a giant could step into their lives.
  • Goliath stood nine and a half feet tall, armed in brass from head to foot, and set the rules of engagement himself: choose a man, and the loser's people serve the winner's.
  • For forty days, morning and evening, he presented himself, and every time the men of Israel ran and hid.
  • Giant killers do not let the enemy make the rules or live by his odds; the rules of engagement are not up to the enemy.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 17

Is there not a cause?

  • David came to the camp only as his father commanded, carrying food for his brethren and the captains, and left his carriage with the keeper.
  • The same words that made the soldiers flee did something different in David: he asked what would be done for the man who killed this Philistine and took away the reproach from Israel.
  • His oldest brother accused him of pride and naughtiness of heart, but David answered: what have I now done, is there not a cause?
  • It is bad enough when the Philistine curses you; it is far worse when your own brethren question your character, and the church has enough trouble with the giant without fighting one another.
  • Saul judged David too young and too small to fight, though Saul himself stood head and shoulders above every man in the kingdom and did not judge himself by the same standard.
  • David's answer was his testimony: he had slain the lion and the bear that took a lamb, and a testimony reminds the one who was tested that if God did it before, He can do it again.

I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts

  • Saul's armor was untested on David, so he went against the giant with what God had already used in his hands.
  • Goliath disdained the youth and cursed him by his gods, promising to give his flesh to the fowls of the air, but David was of the tribe of Judah and would not be talked down.
  • David answered: you come to me with a sword and a spear and a shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied, and today the Lord will deliver you into my hand, for the battle is the Lord's.
  • David may not have known all the names of his God as we do, but we know the name, Jesus, and what David did to his giant we can do so much greater to ours.
  • The stone sank into the giant's forehead, and David took the giant's own sword from its sheath and cut off his head with it, carrying the head as a trophy that God had made the impossible possible.
  • It is no accident that the tribe of praise produced the worshipper who defeated the giant: David was already praising in the sheepfold before he ever reached the battlefield.

Scriptures: 1 Samuel 17:45-47

Such were some of you

  • Paul lists the sins that stand before people like giants: the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God, neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor thieves nor the covetous nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortioners.
  • But such were some of you: you are washed, you are sanctified, you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of God.
  • Romans 8:1 says there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.
  • When the name of Jesus has been applied in baptism and sins are washed away, the giant killer no longer has to live under the enemy's condemnation.

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Romans 8:1

Worship before the war

  • The assignment is not to turn grasshoppers into giants, but to turn people who see themselves as grasshoppers into people who realize they can be giant killers.
  • He recalls Jacob prophesying over his son Judah on his deathbed: your brothers will praise you, your hand will be on the neck of your enemies, and the sceptre shall not depart from Judah.
  • God could use David because he understood worship: in the sheepfold he played and sang melodies that drew heaven's attention to him.
  • There has always got to be worship before the war, and praying before people can fight what is fighting them.

Name the one thing in your valley

  • Even Paul had a thorn in his flesh that he had to bring before God daily; nobody overcomes as a superman or a superwoman.
  • He asks each hearer to think over their life and find the one thing that keeps standing in their valley: a marriage in trouble, a rebellious spirit, an addiction.
  • He opens the altar with a declaration to make: God, I will be a giant killer, and I will begin with a lifestyle of worship and praise.

come on in Louisville in this place tonight come on we serve a great and awesome God we serve a mighty God come on if you know his name boy - crowd his name right now jeez Jesus we bless your name oh we bust your name we bless your name you can begin your Bibles and turn them with me the numbers chapter 13 what an honor it always is to preach in this pulpit give honor to our senior pastor and our first lady amen the pastoral staff and all the great ministers the elders I love them so much and I appreciate who they are and what they are to this to this church as a local church and we are blessed with the very best amen I just believe tonight there's somebody that is very well struggling with a fear and I asked God I asked I said God revealed to me reveal to me the need in the room and here he pretty much told me there's so many needs and there's so many different things that people in our society and in our age today our culture are facing so mean our church the size of this congregation has issues that are so far and problems that are so far in fears that are so far apart God said I'll give you a word you preach it and let the real people respond to the fear they have and this is what he kind of brought to me and I believe that this is what pastor when he when he asked me if I had a word from the Lord this was going through my mind and this is what the Lord was kind of already moving through my spirit but if simply this your perception of your God determines the perception of yourself and your perception of yourself also determines the perception of your God because if you're a child of God those two go together and so I believe tonight if I can get us to look into our lives and if I could get us to take inventory of what's really going on in our life we're we're live and I just believe that God is gonna change some things and God is gonna open some doors and make a way where there doesn't seem to be a way in you're hearing tonight these two scriptures one is found in numbers chapter 13 in verse 33 it says and there we saw the Giants the sons of anak which come of the Giants and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers and so were we in their sight and then I want to turn the page in the First Samuel chapter 17 verse 51 another familiar scripture says therefore David ran and stood upon the Giant and took his sword and drew it out of the sheath thereof and slew him and cut off his head therewith and when the Philistines saw their champion was dead they fled in verse 57 and as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine captain Abner took him and brought him before King Saul with the head of the giant in his hand now listen I've got a very simple title I've got a very simple thought and I've got a very simple application but those things are very important because if any one of those state are done wrong if you have a application that's too hard people are just going to turn and walk away so application is very important to be simple and and you got to be super deep in the word to be able to give a deep reach word but I'm sorry you're not gonna get that tonight I just want to preach what we're living tonight I just want to give us what God gave me because I believe this church I just believe the revival that's in store for this church is gonna be a tie listen when we least expect it when God is going to have a step up to what we need to do the most and my title is simply this you've got a choice you are either a grasshopper or a giant killer grasshoppers and giant killers I want you to put your Bibles out let's pray father though we love you tonight father we believe Lord God that you want to do something great for us Oh God I just believe it you spoken Lord I believe that what you have spoken is clear your word is true Lord I just know there's people in this house tonight that may be here for the very first time and they're looking for something they're searching for something and I believe if they can find it here tonight they will not want to leave but they want to stay right where they are gonna stay right in your presence Lord they want to make a place here Lord where they can live for you and they can serve you know what I'm just believing in Jesus saying that you will help us Lord take the next step in our journey and in our battle Lord God and give us what we need to defeat the Giants in our life why don't you put your hands together and give God praise clap your hands and give him honor that's to his name tonight you may be seated 12 spies are sent out by Moses to spy out the promised land two spies returned sane look at the cluster of grapes that we found in the promised land - two spies came back and said you're not gonna believe what we saw you're not gonna believe what we felt you're not gonna believe how awesome this new land that God has promised us really is and and they said it's a land filled and flowing with milk and honey they said let us go and possess the land for we are well able but then there were 10 spies you know the story there were 10 spies that brought the cluster of grapes home to their tribes with quite a different story they said look at the size of these grapes you ought to see the size of the people who eat these grapes it was the very same cluster of grapes but two spies says my God is able to give us milk and honey my God is able to give us the land this walled city says their cities that are already built we can go in and possess the land but there were ten that looked at the very same thing the two looked at me and said we are not able we are not strong enough in matter of fact look with me in numbers chapter 13 and 30 because it shows us here that the ten spies not only came back with a bad report but they told lies of the land Caleb tried to quiet the people in verse 30 they stood before Moses and he said let's go up at once and take the land he said we can certainly come her it but the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed they said we can't go up against them they are stronger than we are so they spread this bad report watch this right here another translation said they spread lies about the land among all these rights the land we travel through and explore will devour anyone who goes to live there in all the people we saw were huge we even saw Giants they're the descendants of Enoch next to them we felt like grasshoppers and that's what they thought about us too and I'll just go I got I got a question for you I'm gonna preach this don't you worry we're gonna preach it a few minutes but I've got a question for these 10 spies who are spreading lies throughout the Israelites camp I got a question and I think if these Giants were so great and these Giants looked at them in their eyes as grasshoppers I want to know why didn't they defeat these 12 spies how did these 12 spies return back to the land where Moses was I'll tell you why because they probably never even saw the spies but the 10 they had a perspective it was so far off from where God wanted his people to have the perspective was so far off from the 2 that said we can conquer the land if the devil is so big and so bad how in the world are we still here tonight some of you thought that you were gonna give up hope a long time ago and I'm looking around and seeing faces of people who I've heard testimonies to say I almost gave up but I'm still here tonight I almost let go but I'm still here tonight sickness almost pulled me down where I couldn't get back up but I'm still here tonight I was just told what and also testimony from our very own brother Todd Malone he got a letter in the mail I hope you don't mind me sharing this he got a letter in the mail from where he works at the hospital it informed him about three weeks late that he had been in the same room and had worked with a patient with a very infectious disease it very well could have took his life but he said hey my God is able so wish they would have called me and let me know about it but not God is able to protect me and where the devil thought he had me Jesus is still keeping me alive somebody give him praise if you're thankful for the testimony you're still here you're still here Sunday night at 1331 William blood drop you're still here other people thought that there was the doorway head I know her I know him they'll last for two or three months but soon a little bit be a slow thing and you'll never see him again but you're still here because if Jesus wants you on the Pew I don't care what the enemy's test I don't care what the devil says I don't care how impossible it sees me my God is able to keep us where he wants us how we perceive I said how we perceive ourselves it's all according to how we perceive our God easy living in the wilderness causes life in the promised land that seemed impossible I'm gonna say that again easy living in the wilderness huh I'm talking about easy living when you're being you've been given manna every day to eat upon when you giving water out of a rock if you will settle this and anything that you'll settle for you will never change if you'll settle for it you'll never change it and if you'll set it for water out of a rock you'll settle for something that you can't even define it and you just say what is it it's called man what is it if you set up Oh if yourself a delicacy called quail if that's the best you gonna get and the best that you hope for and you're satisfied with well that's all you're gonna you're a kid you're one of the ten spots and that's all you're gonna get the rest of your life but there were two there were two said I don't want to settle for with the rest of your selling for I want to go to the prom aside I want to live in the land that we despite up I want to go to the place where it's rolling with milk and honey I want to go with this fruit and there's grapes in this pomegranate and there's things then I decide because this is grasshopper mentality right here go and hide go find some rock to hide under too small aren't good enough don't have enough talent don't have the ministry skills this is all the grasshopper mentality God has called us to do great things and go into a land oh my god where there's a promise but we look at ourselves in the mirror and all we see is a grasshopper a bug if you will something that is insignificant something that you just kick out of the way if it's in your way just a grasshopper but I don't want to spend too much time there because I don't believe that this church is filled with that kind of mentality I believe we have giant killers they fill this church and people that aren't scared to go up against problems in the life and are aren't scared to take on the enemy when it to win in the battle I want to say this before cuz I really listen you're gonna find this how quickly if you've not heard me preach a lot you're gonna find out that I love David something about David well I'll tell you one thing about he was the first worship leader he was the first true worship leader that understood worship and so that always gets me and he was a powerful man he was the greatest King Israel ever had and so those things about David that we can look at his life and we can learn from so many things I love studying David but what I also want you to understand is it every author of every book of this Bible there is nothing that was written by accident there was no author who began to write about an account or a story and just got to daydream and it has added a bunch of faceted manner and I believe that every jot and every time ahead I believe that everything that was written in this book every detail was put there for a purpose so I just got to believe when we start reading about the story of this giant killer that every single thing we read is there for a reason so as we go into this great book of First Samuel chapter 16 I want to start with with verse number 6 because this is kind of a back story of this young boy named David and many of you if not most of you if not all of you have heard the story you know the story of how David was anointed by the prophet Samuel you you know the story that God had told Samuel to go anoint I'm one of the sons of Jesse but I kind of like how God didn't exactly tell him who the son would be brother snitchin I love the fact that he kind of allowed man to feel and to listen and to be guided by his voice it it wasn't like he just told Samuel I want you to go and anoint David he didn't say that he said I want you to go anoint one of the sons of Jesse if so they brought him through one by one came to pass when they were all come through he looked at he life he was the oldest and said in verse six surely the Lord's anointing is before him but the Lord said unto Samuel look not on his countenance or on the height of his stature because I have refused him for the Lord see of not as the man seeth for the man looketh on the outward appearance but the Lord looketh on the heart Jesse been called the next in line a bit of death he made him pass before Samuel and he said neither hath the Lord chosen this one so Jesse's well let's get number three in line this is the third-oldest Shama it must be summer so he had Shama passed by and he said again neither hath the Lord chosen this again Jessie daddy he brought seven more of his sons before Samuel and Samuel said unto him Jesse the LORD hath not chosen these and Samuel said imma Jessie are are here are these all your children are you do you have any other children and he said there remaineth yet the youngest and behold he keepeth the Sheep and Samuel said unto Jesse send and fetch him for we will not sit down till he come hither sinful brought him in now he was ruddy he didn't look like the others young he had a beautiful countenance he he probably had him started shaving yet he was just a young lad a young boy but he was goodly to look upon him and the Lord said arise and anoint him for this is he then Samuel took the Horn of oil and anointed him watch this in the midst of his brethren and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day for he was anointed by the prophet and the Spirit of God came upon and I want you to know listen me young person he was sitting right back into the sheepfold he came in he was the big to-do everybody made a big deal about him I'm sure there's a little bit of jealousy because there always is jealousy when the youngest gets anointed by the Prophet right there's a little bit of jealousy and his Colleen it is anointing but don't you know God just said listen I've come to anoint you but it's not a time yet to appoint you into your position you've got to go back to the sheepfold and you've got to go back to work and do what you've already been doing kind of sounds like Sunday night Church doesn't it feel the Holy Ghost choir sings that's all but they're all three gets up and sings the next song and then the Holy Ghost you feel that anointing upon you but then you find out on Monday morning you're going right back to where you came from on Friday and you go back into the work force and right back on the job and where they're all that anointing and where the Spirit of God flow through you now you're going right back to where you came from but it was the very next chapter in chapter 17 of 1st Samuel then we find the account of David and Goliath Oh everybody knows the story but I guarantee you there's details that you have not heard before in your Sunday School class so yeah I want us to watch and I want us to read and I want to sell this and I want us to learn there might even be some things that I have you underlined in a circle because it's very important details that the author put in this story that if you miss it if you miss it you can't apply it to your life but look with me in chapter 17 verse 1 now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle and we're gathered together it's show Corps which belongeth to Judah and pitch between Shoko and as a car in emphysema hallelujah and Saul in the men of Israel we're gathered together in pitch by the valley Eva set the battle in array against the Philistines and the Philistines stood on the mountain on one side and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side and there was a valley between them how many know that usually the giant shows up in the valley the problem shows up in the bay is not on the mountaintop it's it's not when everything is going good it's not when all the bills are paid it's definitely not when you're in church when when the holy ghost is moving it happens in the valley when you come off the money if you can't even get to what you're trying to get to because there's something in the valley that's stopping up if listen the devil he understands when and where to show up to get us where he wants us he knows how to kill us oh my god I'm thinking all of my life and I think the biggest struggles of my life never came when I was in the house of the Lord it never came when I was on a high it always came when I was in a low he knows just when to get you that's why we love to have church around here because the more church we have the less opportunities to get into our lives that's why I just believe back in 2008 during the recession I believe the devil love that time period because he was at that time period when everybody lost their jobs and lost working and we were trying to scrounge jobs and find jobs and anything that would pay anything we're trying to get and I just believe it I believe it was around that time of the recession when all of a sudden church didn't become as important as it used to be and things start to get in the way of what church used to be and people in listen I'm not I'm not talking against him because at that time over 10 years ago I understand we had to feed our families we had to put food on the table but somewhere in there time between 2008 and 2012 all the sudden I remember growing up we used to preach ah you don't ever take jobs on Wednesday nights you don't ever take jobs on Sunday morning you don't ever take jobs on Sunday night but all the sudden when we had to bring in a paycheck all this honest belief that the enemy to love that because you would go to Sunday church and you might have to miss two or three weeks before you got another service and what what's happening is there was a valley being dug where a giant could step out and step into our lives and people started falling away and I believe that's why they became a revival of people saying you know what I think I'm gonna have to get another job I might have to I'm gonna have to look back in the water dad's again and find another job because I can't live like this I started hearing people come to me and say listen I'm not been to church in two weeks on I've not been there three weeks and I'm starving spiritually I've got to be fed spiritually and the reason is is because the enemy knows where to find us in the valley and there was in the valley a champion who came out first four out of the camp of the Philistines named Goliath of Gath whose height was six cubits and a span of nine and a half feet tall and he had a helmet brass upon his head he was armed with a coat of mail in the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass and and he had Greaves a brass upon his legs and he and a target of brass between his shoulders and he and the staff of his spear was like a Weaver's beam in his spears head was six hundred shekels of iron and one bearing a shield went before him pretty much what this is saying is the guy was huge he was a giant he was strong he was by far the strongest time on either side and he stood and he cried unto the armies of Israel and Senna to them why are ye come out to set your battle in array I'm not a Philistine in these servants of Seoul he said choose you a man for you and let him come down to me if you be able to fight me and to kill me then we will be your servants but I if I prevail against him and kill him then shall he be our servants and serve us it's got a question why do we allow the enemy to make the rules okay Goliath permission to state the rules of warfare how is it that we sometimes listen but sometimes I I can hear the voice of the enemy and he's giving me all tomatoes and sometimes we just gotta stand up and say you're not the ruler over me and I'm not gonna allow you just set the battle engagement I'm gonna step up and say listen this is my paddle and I'll fight it the way that I want to fight it don't have to follow his rules grasshoppers coward down he under bad circumstances but giant killers come up with solutions David's not on the scene quite yet but I promise you when he gets on the scene he's gonna have enough sense to come up with a solution but I kind of wonder for the Cogdell was there not any archers in Saul's army I mean think about it so you are gonna you're gonna you're gonna in fear gonna fear this one giant put an archer on top put an arrow in them and end it all because we understand it wasn't that the Philistine army was greater than the Israelite army we had a one giant who came down and set the rules of engagement in all what did they do they ran and hide because he came for 40 days and 40 nights he came twice a day and every time he would come into the valley all the grasshoppers would go and hide and I wonder all my god listen we don't have to live by the odds of what this world wants to give us listen the odds list that I've heard all the odds about single-parent families and children they grow up with me with single parents at church or maybe with no parents at church listen we don't have to live by these type of odds the enemy wants to come to us and tell us to give up and to get in like there's no hope but we don't have to live by those us we can beat those odds those odds are coming from the enemy himself I think of young people in our youth group who of who have come to church faithfully every service come early for music practices they have got here for a choir and they don't have even one parent serving God and the enemy would tell them hey you don't have any hope because the odds are get you there's a lot of 75% chance that you're not gonna make it but I'm faithful for young people who say that I don't care what the eyes of the enemy are I don't care what he brings him listen to the rules of engagement are not up to the enemy it's all about what we're gonna do with our battle and with our giant but I've got good news because as a young boy named David he's about to come he's about to outsmart this giant named Goliath first 10 the Philistines said I defy the armies of Israel this day give me a man if we may fight together when Saul and all of Israel heard these words I want you to note there when they heard these words of the Philistine they were dismayed and greatly afraid were introduced to David now David was a son for ether thite of Bethlehem Judah whose name was Jesse and he had eight sons and the man went among them for an old man in the days of Saul I began to research this word Ephraim fight and you know quickly when you research this word and and when you do a Bible word search you'll you'll come up with the name Caleb and when you when you look up the name Caleb you're gonna find out that Caleb was the one spy who came from the tribe of Judah from the tribe of praise and so in the very same family not only the same tribe but the very same family name came a young boy named David the man listened the man who was in the tribe of praise I I don't think it's any accident that this young man named David who was appraiser and a worshipper he was already praising before he got on the battlefield with the giant this young man who was appraiser and a worshipper it isn't no accident that God used him to defeat the giant it was making the King shake in his boots this Ephraim fight named David he said hi I'm gonna send him into the battle in verse 13 the three eldest sons of Jesse went and follows soul to the battle in the names of these three we've already talked about these three but then David was the youngest in verse 14 and the three eldest followed Saul so the three oldest they went to battle but David he was he was at home with his father's sheep in Bethlehem and this giant for sixteen the Philistine drew near morning and evening presenting himself for forty days and Jesse said unto David his son said take now for thy brethren and Aoife of this parched corn in these ten loaves and run to the camp of that brother and carry these 10 Jesus unto the captain of their thousand and look how thy brethren fare and take their pledge now saw another King and they and all the men of Israel we're in the Valley of Elah fighting with the Philistines and David rose up early in the morning he left his sheep with a keeper he took and went as Jesse had commanded him and he came to the trench at the Ezzor hosts was going forth to fight and shouted for the battle for Israel and the Philistines he had put the battle in a reign his army against army and here we go and David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage and ran into the army and came and saluted his brother and as he talked with them behold there came up the champion the Philistine of Gath Goliath by name out of the armies of the Philistines and spake according to the same words and David heard them all the minister is or when they saw the man with a saw the man they fled from him and were sore afraid here we are again every time for forty days the men are running and hiding but the same words that David heard did something different in his life than what they did in the life of Saul in all the men because to a Giant Killer they're not afraid of words and threats and empty threats and responses of the enemy to a giant killer a giant slayer there is a looking for one thing and that's victory and that's fine a way to defeat their giant so the men of Israel verse 25 they said have you seen have you seen this man that has come up Troy to defy Israel is he come up and it shall be that the man who killed the king will enrich him with great riches and will give him his daughter and make his father's health free in Israel and David spake to the men that stood by him saying what shall be done what shall be done to the man that killed this Philistine and taketh away the reproach from Israel for he is this uncertain who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the Living God and the people answered him in this manner saying so shall it be done to the man that killeth him but watch this next because this is the sad part of the story for you lion Dave his oldest brother heard when he spake unto the men and a lion's anger was kindled against David and he said why came as fell down hither and with whom has to left those few sheep in the wilderness said I know that pride the naughtiness of thine heart for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle and David said what have I now done haters are gonna hate y'all here's David ruddy lad not even really even shaving yeah just a young boy coming down to do what his dad told him to do and asked him to do and commanded him to do to bring food to his brethren and to the army there around them here he is just doing what he's been told to do but there's always people in your life who are gonna call you out when you try to do something good when you try to stand up for something that's right you're always gonna have those who are gonna pick you apart it's scene yeah why are you really here I know what's in your heart I know the pride that you have and here David is and he says wait a minute what am I done what have I done to you you know it's bad enough when the Philistine curses you because that's expected but it's far worse when your own brethren start to call you out and start to question your character listen Church family we've got enough issues with the enemy we've got enough issues with the Giant we've got enough issues with kalaiy we sure don't need to be getting onto one another and trying to prejudge one another other motives and of our character he got help us bind together me as a church family as the body of Christ and love one another in realize the enemies out there the enemy is not in here god help us back by it entail there and we go through the New Testament and it makes it very clear what we ought to do and knock you in the body of Christ but God help us to remember who we are and remember who's in the body with us god help me not prejudge people listen you've heard you for the statement all's fair in love and war it's not true if you're in the party of Christ that's just not true also not fair in love and war because here's the deal let me speak are your students for a moment there's gonna be somebody who's gonna date your ex it's called courtship it's called dating somebody is going to take your ex-girlfriend somebody's going to date your ex-boyfriend you can't do anything about it it's a good thing you tried it out it was it for you but God help us when we get so we get so into our daily lives and listen I know students listen I I'm at the Academy I know what's going on I know it goes on the students in life that the academy can't help us when we get so into these Apostolic culture then when I like her because because she likes her and I like him or I don't like him because he doesn't like you god help us to realize we're all in this together we've got a love one another through all things Davis said what have I done and I love this he says is there not a cause question of my character do I not have a point here that we have an issue Victor's own circle science giant Philistine is coming against our God and against the army of arc he said do I not have a cause any term from him to another in spake after the same manner and the people answered him again after the former manner if they just kept on saying to one another is there not a cause in the net purse of Turkey that sort of turn Allegro cities are not a cost and the answer one another and each person is that is another course the person answered back and said is there not a causes or not a cost me and what David was doing David was building faith within the army to realize food we don't have to put up with this giant we don't have to put up with this problem in our life we don't have to put up with this enemy we can stand up against them and say there is a cause are you standing up for Christ there is a cause standing up for this apostolic gospel there is a cause when these words were heard they rehearse them and then they went before Saul he thought were going to go to the king we're gonna ask him is there not a cause so David in verse 32 said his soul let no man's heart fail because of him the giant thy servant I will go in fight with this Philistine his Saul said to David thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him for thou art but a youth but a man of war he's a man of from his youth see it's okay it's okay for Goliath to be a man of war from his youth but apparently it's not okay for David to be a man of war from his youth apparently it's okay as long as you got the right size and as long as you've got the articulate speech and as long as you you have the right degree obviously it's okay for them just say what they're doing and fight the way they're fighting but all David because you come out of the Sheep feel because you came out as your brother would call it the wilderness because you came out of the wilderness listen don't you for one second wait until you're 18 years old before you do something for God that's a lie from the devil to tell you you're not old enough or you're not good enough or you don't have a pair so the right last name oh my god any one of you strong towering young people can do anything you wanted to well I wish I had some help in here well I guess that's parents we gonna settle okay all kids just do whatever come on mom's today our kids can do whatever they want to do if they'll do it under the guise of the gospel of Jesus Christ well there's three more of you that's all right that's all right these are not a cause salt judge David because of his appearance and because of his age isn't it interesting that Saul doesn't judge himself by the same standards that he judge David for the Bible tells us that when Saul was being anointed to be the first King he stood head and shoulders above every other man in the kingdom which means he should have judged himself and said I'm the tallest one in the kingdom if there's gonna be somebody that's gonna fight a giant I guess that's gonna be me if there's gonna be somebody that's gonna go out against a nine and a half foot man and Here I am he's probably about six 10 he was probably one itas he was head and shoulders above every other man in the kingdom it should have been him but he did not judge himself the same way he judged David but instead he said David you're just not the right size but over time Saul begins to realize David's my only hope and David said to Saul listen my servant kept his father's sheep and there came a line and a bear and took a lamb out of the flock and I went out after him and smote him and delivered it out of his mouth and when he arose against me I caught him by his beard and smote him and slew him and all he was doing was given his testimony so he was doing he was simply saying I did something it was impossible except the Lord showed up that's what a testimony is we go on to the community we start telling our co-workers food what God has done and brought us out all we're doing is sharing something that we could do on our own and then only God could do for us testimony is a reminder to the one who got tested I'm gonna say it again a testimony is a reminder to the one who got tested reminding them that if God can do it before God can do it again and all David was simply was saying was listen if I can fight against a line in the bear I can surely take on a man surely if I can take on a wild animal and the power that comes with a wild animal surely I can take on a man because what David was trying to say it's not me King Saul it's all about the God that we serve I service through both the lion a bear and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them seeing he have to fire armies of the Living God David said moreover the Lord that delivered me out of the Paul the Lion of the bear he will deliver me out of the this Philistine and Saul sit under David okay go in the Lord be with thee goes down through a few more verses and I love this because he tries to put his armor on to David Saul says here here take my take my arm here take my spear take my sword take take my my shield in my helmet and David walks out and I can only imagine what he look like in a guy who was six foot eight or six foot nine I can't imagine what he probably looked like in his armor he probably looked quite comical but we have David saying I've not tested these I'm not proving these items I he said I'm gonna go into to the giant huh what God had me do to the bear into the life verse 41 the Philistine came on and true mirror to David and the man that bear the shield went before him and when the Philistine looked about and saw David he disdained him for he was but a youth and ruddy in fair countenance he in a Philistine said unto David am i a dog that thou comest to me with stays and a Philistine cursed David by his gods and the Philistine said to David come to me and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air and to the beasts of the field they began to trash-talk David thinking that he could do the same to David as he did everybody else but David was of the tribe of Judah David wasn't a lineage of kala back and there was no way that he was gonna let a giant tell him what he could or couldn't do so David said to the Philistine he said now come us to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts the god of the armies of Israel who thou hast defied David didn't even know the name of his God he might be able to describe his God he might be able to call him Jehovah or Elohim he might be able to call him a lot of names but I'm so glad we know the name of our God and what David did to his giant we can do so much greater to the Giants in our life because we know the name I said we know the name pastor preacher but of this morning he he pleased about that name of Jesus you may be seated the day the stay with the Lord delivered the intim on hand David said and I will smite thee and take my head from me and I will give the carcass of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowl of the air into the wild beasts of the earth that all the Earth may know that there is a God in Israel I want you to know right now the giant killers are world changers they want to make sure that the whole world knows about their God they want to make sure that they're turning everything upside down in the name of their God is famous and David said is not just enough that you know my god is God it's not enough that the Philistines know he says I want the whole earth to realize then my God is the god of the universe and all this assembly shall know that the Lord save Earth not was sword and spear for the panel as the Lord's and He will give you into our hands and it came to pass when the Philistines arose and came and drew nigh to meet David that David hastened and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine and even put his hand in his bag and took thence of stone and slang it and smote the Philistine in his forehead that the stone sunk into his forehead and he fell upon his face to the earth it's old David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling it with a stone and smote the Philistine and slew him but there was no sword in the hand of David listen therefore David ran and stood upon the Philistine and took his sword took Goliath's sword out of the sheath and slew him and cut off his head there with me and when the Philistines saw their champion was dead they fled he took the head of the Philistine in verse 54 and brought it to Jerusalem and he put the armored Goliath armor in his own tent in verse 57 I read it earlier and as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine Abner took him and brought him before Saul and David had the head of the Philistine in his hand listen I know this seems gruesome but in that day when you defeated the enemy that everybody else thought it was impossible for you to defeat you would cut off its head and you would carry it with you wherever you went and it was your trophy because you were telling people I know you thought this was impossible but I've got it right here in my hand to prove to you that my god was able to use me to kill my Giants and not only did David kill his Giant in his way he killed the one giant that stopped the Israelites from defeating the Philistines so what is your giant that nobody else believes that you'll ever defeat I want you to think over your life I know some people in this room in a in a congregation this large you're having trouble with your marriage and you feel like your marriage is on the rocks and things aren't going well and people look at your in-laws and look at your family members look at you say there's no hope for your marriage or maybe it's just simply a rebellious spirit or or some kind of an addiction that you might have every time you try to overtake it and every time you try to break it you look back in the valley and there it stands before you again I don't know what it is but in 1st Corinthians 6 and verse 9 I think Paul makes it very clear there's a lot of things that can stand before us things like unrighteous t the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God he said be not deceived neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor the effeminate nor abusers of themselves with mankind nor thieves nor the covetous nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God but I like what he says he says but such were some of you but you are washed but you were sanctified but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the spirit God and that's when you can hold up the head devil the desire that you just defeated and cyah that you just taken down and said I used to be this is what I once was but I have defeated the giant I'm almost done but Romans 8:1 says there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit it's saying right here when you have the name of Jesus applied to your life when Jesus Christ enters into you it's called the Holy Ghost when you've been baptized in his name for the remission of your sins when all of your sins have been washed away you can stand up and say no longer will I be condemned by a giant Emma I'm a giant killer I'm a giant slayer I will not back down I will not give up I will not cower down I will not hide but I will fight against the very things they come in my life and he'll try to overtake me I wish you'd stand to your feet and I want you to stop think over your life and say God what is that one thing that keeps on getting in my valley and getting in my way what's that one thing that's talking trash in my life it's trying to convince me I'm not good enough I'm not strong enough I don't have the power enough come on somebody I'm not talking about conviction because convictions a good thing but I believe if you've got the Holy Ghost stuff no longer does condemnation have to set in your spirit but you can look back at the enemy you can look back at the devil and say no no tell you cannot have me you cannot help my family you cannot have my wife you cannot help children don't try to condemn me and accuse me helping Paul with the price my body isn't on my own but it says have all the Holy Ghost this is somebody if we need David's in this house we need Caleb's in this house we need Joshua's in this house who will stand up and say we've got the power of God on our side get guys on us son nothing is impossible somebody clap your hands and give Him praise Caleb the fearless said we are well able to defeat these giants and I don't know what David was his great great great nephew were his fourth cousin I don't know what he was but I just believe that it's no accident that the tribe of Judah gave us a man who was a worshipper and a warrior that the tribe of Judah because listen we are not going to be able to break through and defeat anything unless we're worshipers if we think that we could just sit back and cross our legs and think somehow some way we're gonna go through a church service and get entertained and then we're gonna go to feed a giant it's not gonna happen there's always gotta be worship before the war takes place that's always gonna be praying before people can go in and fight against what's fighting them I want you to hear what Jacob prophesied over his son Judah on his deathbed not only his son but to his tribe into his descendants he said Judah your brothers will praise you your hand will be on the neck of your enemy and like that your father's sons will bow down to you you are Alliance come on Judith the shelter will never depart from Judah nor the ruler's staff from between his feet until he comes to when it beat who maybe comes and the obedience of the nations is his it's rate prophecy that this was all gonna come through David through the tribe of juda here decades centuries later was gonna come a man a young man seemingly too young of a man but God said I can take him because he understands worship I can take him because he understands how to get my attention he understands how to call me from heaven and how to beckon me into his life even in the sheepfold he can play his harbin write songs and sing melodies and write melodies that causes my attention to be drawn to him and God said I can use a man like that to be my Giant Killer it's not my assignment tonight from God to turn grasshoppers into Giants it's my assignment to turn people who see themselves as grasshoppers into realizing they can be giant killers I just want you to close your eyes and I want you to lift up your hands right now and I'm gonna open this altar shortly but before I open it come on I just want us to call out to God I say God Lord you know my life you know my secret thoughts you know my hidden ways Lord you know everything about me oh god you know where the devil gets me you know my trigger points yeah you know where I fall turn enough fall and I get back up again and I fall down I can back up and I fall down I get back up you know those places in my life God but right here in right now I just feel like I want to be a giant killer huh I'm sick and tired I'm sick and tired of cowering behind a stone every time the giant comes in and starts to talk his talk in my ear and talk his talking to my life come on somebody I want you to stop making a declaration say God I will be a giant killer God I will begin by worshipping you I'll begin by making my lifestyle a lifestyle and a lifestyle of praise I have this fear to take it upon me I have something inside of me it draws you to me I want you not God to be drawn to me and I know that worship is the very thing that draws you to me somebody does to lift up your voice I need you come on is there any person under the sound of my voice who does like that come to this hall and say God I give you my life God helped boldness I wanna have the faith overcome the fear of the obstacles in my life the very change the very things that bother me the very things that machette me the various things it was Paul he said I've got a thorn huh I've got a thorn in my flesh I've got a break tailee I've gotta bring it before God daily every mind card card I need your help I'm not a Superman I'm not a superwoman lord I've gotta have you in my life every play to help me to overcome yes yes yes yes yes come on somebody lift up your voice come on you're gonna cry what's the one thing you're gonna tackle this week
