well clap your hands onto the lord tonight hallelujah what a what a absolute powerful presence of the lord that is in this place tonight amen well stand to your feet and uh for for your benefit um i've got a uh i've got a stopwatch going and i am going to i believe that god does not take a lot of time to do great things so i want to just let him have his way and i don't want to get in the way and so i'm going to try to be as short as i can but i'm thankful tonight what an honor is amen to be a part of the greatest people i believe this in all the world i wouldn't rather be any other place i would want to be in any other house than this house oh lord tonight amen are we aren't we a privileged people a blessed people here at first apostolic god has been so good to us uh my the choir uh the the singers the musicians everything tonight has just been outstanding and i don't know about you but i find it easy to worship in this place and i'm so thankful for that give honor to our music team give honor to our pastoral staff of course our senior pastor and our first lady uh we love them immensely don't we don't we love them with everything we are love you pastor carpenter sister carpenter amen i'm thankful lord today amen to be in your house james chapter 2 and verse 17. i'm going to read just a couple verses that i believe at least one passage will be very familiar and then we're going to move quickly but believe the lord has given me something for someone tonight and i just want to share that tonight james chapter 2 verse 17 simply says even so faith if it hath not works is dead being alone just look at that one more time even so faith if it hath not works it's dead being alone which is gonna go hand in hand with hebrews chapter 11 verse one our our faith chapter very familiar with this scripture now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen but look look with me in verse 2. this is interesting to me for by it or for by faith the elders obtained a good report i want to read another translation that says the act of faith is what distinguished our elders and set them above the crowd their their act of faith is what distinguished them there was a lot of people who had faith but there was not a lot of people who put actions with their faith now hebrews chapter 11 is just simply a good old-fashioned testimony service how many remember testimony services apostle paul it was like he brought back to life the elders of the old testament and just let them testify of what happened and where they put action along with their faith i'm just going to preach it's going to be a short message simply entitled let the elders testify let listen i feel the holy ghost already it's been in this place all day long we might as well just let it take over in this place come on let's pray together father we love you lord i believe in lord a testimony that is testified tonight lord there's going to be an elder of old that's going to come and they're going to leave a testimony that's going to inspire faith in someone but not just faith but i'm believing there's going to be an action that takes place that's blended and it's mixed together with faith and lord only you know what's going to turn up and turn out only you know what miracles can take place lord only you know where people who have been struggling with things in their life are gonna break free tonight in jesus name because they're gonna put action along with their faith come on if somebody will believe with me come on clap your hands and just give the lord praise i know we've been praising all night but one more time before you're seated just give your god praise he's good he's great and he's a mighty god you may be seated in this place tonight testimony service i i don't know maybe in this place uh we have people who are not super familiar with what a pentecostal testimony service used to look like um and matter of fact you'll notice that we don't we we don't have them anymore and there's a good reason why and i'm going to kind of explain it but don't don't get offended don't get ahead of me just stay with me stick with me i promise you're going to like what i say by the time it's over with but but a testimony is supposed to be an articulation of one's personal faith it's the speech the comment remarks statement acknowledgement it's public profession of a person's relationship with god the word testimony and testify comes from the latin word which means witness when a person testifies he speaks as a witness of the saving power of the miraculous power of jesus christ but sad to say and listen i i i don't want to get tense in here it might get a little funny for a moment but we had some interesting testimony services testimony i hear i hear some elders amen and me we had some testimony services that i want you to know made me nervous even as a child i was reading about some examples of bad testimonies i want to share them with you just so you kind of understand so so you won't you won't get get upset at me too quickly but but our testimony services got shut down for testimonies like this are you ready a woman stands up in the service years ago and and gave what she considered to be an effective testimony she related a recent story about her tire blowing during a recent road trip lo and behold when she went to get the new tire the mechanic told her another tire was about to blow out knowing she didn't have the funds to cover two tires she wrote a check and it was approved and the church members cried out won't he do it a man stood up in a bible study one night and and told the congregation that his elderly uncle had just died and left him a good amount of money in fact it was enough money to buy a brand new car and he began to describe his brand new car and he ended the testimony by proclaiming isn't god good then this last one at the beginning of a church service a a cancer patient stood up and asked if she could give a testimony and the pastor agreed to let her come and share her testimony and she said she said she had a a report from the doctor during her previous visit the doctor had given her some bad news about her diagnosis and the doctor admitted that there was another patient with a similar name whose first name was also mary and this mary that was testifying was excited and she said god is so good because it wasn't me it was the other mary now listen these are g-rated testimonies we could be here listen if i pass this mic around we could be here until the early hours of tomorrow morning laughing at testimonies that we have heard at testimony services can i get a witness does anybody want to come and share i read listen i personally remember 20 and 30 minute testimonies i'm talking about pastor nana now listen i i've i've been to bible school i i grew up in home missions i've been to different churches so i'm not talking i'm not talking about any y'all but i remember watching my pastor at the time standing at his chair and there was no stopping the testimony it just kept on kept on going and nobody got glory except for the devil and all he had done i remember i remember just about every denomination under the sun being bashed and being slandered you got guests that are there and you're just kind of hanging your head going oh oh god help us all i remember testimonies with tmi when it comes to anatomy issues i remember when visitors from off the street would want to testify and you're like oh god in heaven god these words i remember listen i remember we had oh sister green i remember growing up in the church in our home missions church growing up sister green gave her testimony every testimony service and all us kids could recite it word for word and i thank god and i think the mothers of the church and i think and we can we can recite it word for word but let me tell you something there's no question that testimony services as we used to have them may not have been able to continue but there was something about a testimony service that brought faith into the house because we just understood if god did it for you then quite possibly god could do it for me if he healed sister jeter's body from cancer and she got up and started talking about being cancer-free then everybody else with cancer just understood hey there's hope from me too because if god can do it for her if god could open brother kirby's blinded eyes my god nothing's impossible there's nothing wrong that nothing in my body can compare to the blinded eyes being open and there is something about the power of testimony service matter of fact we would have drug addicts brother thompson they would get up who had been set free and their lives have been completely changed and other people struggling with those same addictions would say oh maybe there is hope i know the devil told me that there's no release and i'm all alcoholic always an alcoholic and once addicted always addicted and always in the stage of recovery but this person told me that they've been they've been set free for 20 years and they have not any one more desire than they've had for 20 years testimonies build faith i said testimonies build faith and if you're here tonight and you're saying brother erickson i need to hear that kind of testimony in my life i've got good news because we've got small groups and that's what small groups are fueled on are testimonies we get together and we help we may not in a crowd this size there's no possible way we could pass a microphone around but in a small group we could begin to talk about things we're going through and things we're facing in trials and temptations and wouldn't you know it the person sitting next to you can get delivered because they hear of what god did in your life that's what free class is all about i'm thankful for our free class because that's what they do they sit in a circle and they talk about what god is doing in their life and how god delivered them and because god did it for one look at james chapter 2 and verse 17 i i'm preaching about testimony service because we're about to hear from our elders in just a few minutes and we're going to hear them testify in james 2 and 17 now now mind you this is the same author speaking that wrote the book of acts it's the actions of the apostles this guy understood all about action he says even so faith if it hath not works is dead being alone yea a man may say thou hast faith and i have works and james says show me thy faith without thy works and i will show thee my faith by my works look at verse 19 we like now listen we quote this as a oneness scripture and it is but it's out of context james says thou believest that there is one god thou do us well the devils also believe in tremble now listen i i'll preach that all day long preaching about the oneness of god i'll preach it but but i began to really study this and i began to go through different translations and i wanted to see what each of the translations said the ehv translation said you believe that god is one good for you even the devils believe and they shudder i like that the living bible translation says and there still are there still among you who hold that only believing is enough i like that believing in one god will remember that the demons believe this too so strongly that their terror they tremble in terror the message bible says do i hear you professing to believe in the one and only god but then observe you complacently sitting back as you have done nothing as if you've done something wonderful it says that's just great demons do that but what good does it do to them and one more the tpt says you can believe all you want that there is one true god that's wonderful but even the demons know this and tremble with fear before him yet they're unchanged they remain demons and the more i began to read this i thought this is this is powerful because right here and listen this this is not exactly what i've come to preach about but but it's going to preach anyways i think it's going to help somebody listen we have been given a revelation but we can't form a religion off of revelation because all religion is is is they come up with a belief and they just kind of sit back and sit down and they just all believe the same thing that they bring a crowd of people together and they all have faith in the same thing that's what stephen's saying right here he's saying yeah we all believe that god is one and that's that's great he said but even the devils even the demons believe this and so it's not some great revelation that we have because they know it too he's saying what are you doing with your faith are you just sitting back and watching your faith and think somehow that your faith is going gonna do something in your a miracle's gonna take place without an action he says it's not so he says not so even the demons have these same revelations but it's gonna take something so much more than just revelation that's where we start but that's not where we end oh my god i'm not throwing off on revelation i thank god for the oneness of god i'm so glad that we understand and jesus is the fullness of the godhead bodily i'm so glad that we understand his name and who he is but listen that's there's so much more to what we believe in just revelation we've got to put practice action has got to go with our revelation action has got to go with our faith verse 20 says but will thou know obey man that faith without works is dead was not abraham our father justified by works when he had offered isaac his son upon the altar see a style how faith wrought with his good works and by works was faith made perfect and the scripture was fulfilled which saith abraham believeth god and it was imputed unto him for righteousness and he was called the friend of god verse 24 says ye see then how that by works a man is justified and not by faith only and let me kind of just explain this because we've got to understand where james is coming from you see the door had swung so wide because here these people these jewish the the jewish church the apostolic church who they be getting the holy ghost and getting baptized in jesus name they were looking back at the religious sex of the day and those religious sex they were still believing that their salvation came through their good works they saw they were circumcised and they they had regular uh they had a regulated diet and they followed the sabbath and they they had they celebrated all the festivals and they went on pilgrimages and they sacrificed animals and they followed the purification uh rituals they did all these things in the new birth the newborn apostolic christians day of pentecost christians looked at them and they saw the error that they were trying to purchase their salvation and so the door swung too far to where they were just sitting back and going we got truth we got faith we've got revelation and we're just going to hang out right here and stephen said oh no he said it can't happen this way this is not what the church is all about the church is about being a people of faith who also makes actions with their faith works timothy 3 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to his mercy he saved us by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the holy ghost in this verse right here today still people are trying to use this verse as a cop-out as if they don't have to perform anything good and no action has to take place to go along with their faith but paul was trying to tell the religious leaders and crete through his friend titus that they could not earn their salvation through righteous works he was not telling them not to have works please i i'm setting a foundation i promise you we're going to move forward in just a moment but we have to understand as apostolics that we must rightly divide the word and if we're not careful the power that we enjoy in the apostolic movement may not be available the next time we need it if we get intoxicated with faith and we don't mix works in with our faith listen i know we want a move of god like we had tonight listen if we could have it every service but let me tell you something the move of god we had that was faith rising up but something has to happen tomorrow that goes along with the faith that rose up tonight do you understand that we want the spiritual moments we we want we want those goose bumps to rise up and when we feel and we hear that choir song listen when sister lauren began to sing and now throw on my ass i mean it was like everything inside me like wow and that's beautiful and they gave me faith for the moment but i can't live on that moment action has to go along with faith we cannot just be a society of faith seekers let me tell you listen i tell you a quick personal story because i gotta move quickly but i was raised on hot dogs hamburgers and fish sticks listen i don't know we were we were in uh started a church plant back then we called it home missions the names are getting cooler and cooler but we had just started a church and we didn't we didn't have steak i i didn't know i didn't know what lobster tail was but listen maybe the few steaks that i had growing up what i could remember was the steak had more fat than it had meat and i remember as a kid thinking you know you set this thing before me and i've got about three ounces to eat right here i mean it's this big but i've only got about three ounces to eat and i i can i can tell you this that when i got married and when i first bought a a grill for the first time i thought to myself i'm going to kroger i'm gonna find some i'm listen i'm gonna eat like the regina i'm gonna find that steak that has no fat on it i want the leanest man i don't i don't want no fat i just want meat we're gonna put that thing on the fire it's gonna be the best steak i've ever had and i remember putting that steak on the fire and i want you to know that was the most tasteless steak i've ever eaten because you gotta understand i had a knife and whatever was on that steak that might have resembled fat i cut that stuff off before i even grilled it man i put that thing i was so proud so proud of that steak cooked it perfectly a medium well a slight pig center i i just i just grilled it perfectly and meant i bit into that thing i thought this thing is horrible until i found out that it's the fat that adds the savor taste to the meat you say what are you talking about i thought we were talking about testifying well sometimes we get so into the spiritual and that's that's the steak that's the meat that we get out of the physical we get out of the flesh and think i'm just going to live a life of just spirit but the problem is this god requires the flesh to also go along with the spirit the flesh is what does the works if we if we just get this and i've heard people say if i could i would just get in a closet all day long i'll just pray all day long every day i would just pray and that's what they did on azusa street they just prayed all day long prayed pray pray pray pray pray pray and i told them i said how do you win souls just just pray you gotta get out you gotta the flesh the fat the stuff that we're always trying to kill and trying to cut off god says i require that along with the spiritual because we're not spirits we all but flesh with the spirit so therefore god is saying i need if there's going to be something that happens in your life whether it's a miracle whether it's a healing that takes place whether it's deliverance that takes place whether your marriage gets put back together it's going to take more than just the spiritual you're going to have to do something physical in order to make that miracle take place well i'm going to have to prove it to you i can i can tell already i'm going to have to prove it but that's all right because i've got some elders that are about to come up here and they're about to testify you see hebrews chapter 11 verse 1. paul says listen i i need i need my i need some elders to come up and i need some testimonies because i've got people that need to hear what access took place to go along with faith to make some very miraculous things take place and he said now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen faith is not an emotion faith is not a feeling faith is the bible says a substance faith is evidence faith is us acting like god is telling the truth i'll say it again faith is us acting in action like god is really telling the truth faith includes a physical actions the bible says for we walk by faith it doesn't say we think by faith or we feel by faith or we hold by faith it takes an action it takes us physically doing something we walk by faith so verse 2 says for by it by faith the elders obtained a good report they gained approval they testified look with me at verse six but without faith it is impossible to please him for he that cometh to god must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him it doesn't just say that he's a rewarder it says you've got to diligently seek now you've got to have faith because without faith it's impossible you can't please god without it but with that faith there has to come action there has to come diligence in seeking after god so let the elders testify matter of fact i want elder elder brother noah to come up i want him to be the first one to testify man i need organ i need some organ i want him to be the first one to testify matter of fact i got a mic right here he's going to come up and he's going to testify and i promise you this is not children's camp and we don't have anybody dressed in a robe going to come up you're going to have to use your imagination if i was brother nolan i could pull this off but i can't and so i need elder noah to come up because the bible says by faith noah being warned of god of things not yet seen move with fear that's a step of faith prepared an ark that's action to the saving of his house by the witch he condemned the world and became the heir of the righteousness which is by faith okay so come on i need you to use your imagination there is you know what he looks like he's on all the children's books you've seen them okay he's standing before the mic and noah i need you to testify like you've never testified before and i believe this is what knows come on you got to use you got to you in your minds hi i believe he said by faith i built a ship in the middle of dry land i was warned about something i couldn't see i acted on what i was told and do you want to know what the result was my family was saved my act of faith drew a sharp lie between the evil of this unbelieving world in the righteousness of the believing world and as a result i became intimate my god can somebody say praise the lord to noah you may be seated listen if noah was up here he'd be pleading saying why in the world can't you live for god so your kids can live for god why in the world do you think that i spent 100 years building a ship in the middle of dry land god said it was going to rain and i didn't even know what rain was why do you think i did that i'll tell you why because i loved seven people my wife my sons and their wives i believe lord would say is it really that big of a deal to come to church on sunday twice is it really that big of a deal to come on midweek first even when you've been working all day is it that bill i built a boat i built a ship it took me a hundred years are you telling me you can't come to prayer for 21 days let the elders testify you may be saying i gotta hurry i got some elders gonna testify abraham i want you i want you and your wife sarah i want you i want you to make your way this way i need you here by faith abraham when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance he obeyed a step of faith and he went out in action not knowing whether he went come on come on talk about it talk about right here abraham what you got to say he said by an act of faith i lived in a country that was promised to me i lived as a stranger and i camped in tents i was one of the richest men alive and i lived in a tent because my god told me if i would leave this land that i know my land where i'm the ruler where i'm the leader if i would leave this land my god told me he promised me and now listen me and my wife we've been trying to have kids for a long long time matter of fact we've already given up we've already decided it wasn't the will of god but my god said if i would go into a promise he made me a promise that my children would be as the sand of the sea would be as the stars of the sky he said i did it by keeping my eye on an unseen city with real eternal foundations the city designed and built by god himself i gotta move on come on sarah come on up here sarah through faith also sarah herself received strength to conceive seed and was delivered of child when she was past age because she judged oh she judged him faithful i thought we weren't supposed to judge anybody sarah judged god and said yep he's faithful i know i'm 90 years old i never had a child cry myself to sleep every night wishing to god that i could have a ch i know my life has been misery because every other woman has looked at me as barren and wonder what kind of sin i was performing and wondering why i didn't i know i'm a wife of one of the richest men alive and i can't have children and there was a scar that ran so deep in my body and in my mind but i judged him and i found him faithful and because he was faithful i obeyed his word and because she obeyed his word listen i i just need all the patriarchs i need all y'all to line up come on this is what testimony service was like people just line up get ready for the microphone it was just open mic night that's all it was we just didn't sing thank god and so people would stand there get ready talking next person would come walk it up and i thank the lord i want to testify tonight because god's been so good and we just it was just open mic night but i need all the pictures just line up right here right up right here paul said line him up he said by faith isaac bless jacob and he saw concerning things to come by faith jacob when he was dying blessed both the sons of joseph and worshipped leaning upon the top of his staff by faith joseph when he died made mention of the department of the children of israel and gave commandment concerning his bones joseph i wish you would just testify for a moment and joseph steps up and says this is not my home i'm just passing through whatever you do don't leave my bowls in the world don't leave my bowls in egypt i just came here to save my family from starvation don't leave me here take me to the promised land you may be seated still testifying by verse 23 by faith moses when he was born was hid three months of his parents because they saw that he was a proper child and they were not afraid of the kings commandment now listen listen where's brother father at i think you know i don't need him yet but listen i need your help in testimony service they would always talk back to the person testifying they would say so come on now you better believe it say it again oh come on brother say it again won't he do it come on if i'm gonna testify like the owners i need you to respond like a testimony you've been doing good you've been doing good but i need to respond like a testimony service all right okay come on moses i need you to testify i need you to talk a little bit about what you did what you've done and why you are who you are by faith when i was come to years i refused to be called the son of pharaoh's daughter choosing rather to suffer the affliction of my people than to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season come on come on esteeming the reproach of christ greater reaches than the treasures in egypt i had respect unto the recompense of the reward by faith i forsook egypt not fearing the wrath of the king for i endured as seen him who is invisible then moses said through faith we kept the passover and sprinkled the blood lest he that destroy the first you're born should touch us by faith we passed through the red sea i asked by dry land which the egyptians a stand to do or drown by faithful walls of jericho fell down after they were compassed about seven days by faith the holy grail perished not with them they believed not when she had received the spies with peace then paul ran out of time so he just said all the rest y'all lined up i'm just gonna kind of tell you a testimony he said what shall i say more for the time would fail me to tell of gideon barack sampson jephthah david also in samuel and other prophets who through faith subdued kingdoms wrought righteousness obtained promises and stopped the mouth of lions i need somebody in this place to help me he said there's so many testimonies represented here we don't have time to let them testify i just got to start telling you about the faith they had i got to start telling you about the actions that they combined with their faith i gotta start telling you that even the lion closed his mouth quenched the violence of fire escape the edge of the sword out of weakness we're made strong wax valiant and fight turn to the army of the air we ain't afraid of you we're not gonna run we'll turn back again and fight you once again the bible said in 35 women received their dead raised to life again others were tortured not accepting deliverance that they might obtain a better resurrection and others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings yay moreover abounds and imprisonment they were stoned they were sought asunder were tempted were slain with the sword they wanted about in sheepskins and ghost skins being destitute afflicted tormented of the whom the world was not worthy of whom the world was not worthy you say how in the world did god allow all those to be martyred to be killed to be burnt the stake tarred and feather cut his off crucified upside down crucified in the form of the next how did that all happen i'll tell you what happened god said this world is not worthy of their presence walking on his soil so paul ended he ended the testimony by saying this he says these guys that just testified had faith and acted on their faith watch watch watch mother-in-law you're gonna like this they acted on their faith during a dispensation when their faith couldn't even be rewarded these saints of god these patriarchs and matriarchs couldn't even enjoy the promises that they were made abraham and sarah would never see their seed as a star in the sky by faith joseph he saved his he saved those that hated him the most from starvation brought him into egypt saved their lives and died in egypt never seen that if it wasn't for him those hebrew people would have never made it here it is verse 38 of whom the world was not worthy go to go go to 39 and these all having obtained a good report through faith received not the promise god having provided some better thing for us that they without us should not be made perfect let me let me interpret that that's confusing another translation says this not one of these people even though their lives of faith were a desirable model none of them got their hands on what was promised verse 40 god has a better plan for us that their faith and our faith would come together to make one complete whole their lives of faith not complete apart from ours do we understand that listen when i read that the hair on my hair stood up i thought my god abraham his promise is not fulfilled until my faith is combined with his faith that's what paul was saying he was saying right here these guys are great examples powerful examples do what they did live how they lived but they never received the promise that we're gonna receive because we're in a dispensation where we can receive the promise oh come on somebody knows where i'm going with this we complete their testimony every one of the testimonies that you heard tonight were not complete until the people of this church the people of the body of christ around the world until the apostolics rise up and say i share the same faith of abraham isaac and jacob oh sarah of ray i share the same faith that they have and not only share the same faith i'm willing to do something i will to perform actions and works that are going to go along with my faith i want you to stand your feet tonight because i'm excited to tell you in the dispensation that we're living in there's a promise for us today and it's for our children and it's for all those that are far off even as many as the lord our god shall call the prophet joel never saw what we see today all he had was a word from the lord and he just spoke the word as the prophet was supposed to speak the word he never saw the promise he just recited the promise he just heard the promise he thought in his mind there's coming a day there's coming a dispensation where people are going to receive the promise that i'm preaching about if we will begin to mix some works in with our faith i hope that you saw i've been rushing through i've been trying to get done and so i didn't articulate like i wanted to how every single one of your testimonies it required works with the faith not a one not a one of them received anything except that they put one foot in front of the other i don't know if that meant leaving a land that they had loved i don't know if that meant walking through a red sea and running from chariots i don't know if that means going around marching around the walls of jericho but whatever they did they had not only faith but the works went along with their faith i want you to close your eyes in this place tonight and i want to know what is god leading you to do come on noah's in the house i just want to know what is god telling you to do come on you go to bed at night and you wake up in the middle of the night and god begins to speak to you and oh you say god i believe in you oh god i have faith in you but come on noah it's going to take more than faith it's going to take more than believe in oh it's going to take some action on your part it's going to take somebody throwing rotten tomatoes at you it's going to take things barriers up in your way it's going to take a roadblock that you're gonna have to say i don't care what i have to do i'm gonna put some action to my faith come on abraham come on sarah come on i believe there's some abrahams and sarah's in this place you've been living in a desolate dormant place in your life and your question to god is why why god we've been doing everything you've asked us to do god we've been obeying your word god we've been faithful in tithes and offerings god we've been faithful to your house we brought our children up in sunday school we're here every time the doors open we're winning people to god we're disciplined people i believe there's an abraham and sarah in this place that god is going to give you a promise and your promise is going to be oh if you'll just step out to by faith and continue to believe that i am faithful to reward i am faithful my promises are sure my promises are amen whatever i promise you i promise i promise i promise i promise it'll come to pass you just got to keep on believing and walking by faith come on it's going to take more than just believe it come on come on come on i want to open this halter i want to know what you're going to do with the promise that you've been given i want you i want you to get up here and lift up hands to heaven i don't care if you've already prayed i know we had an altar service already that's okay we will worship it but this is different this is you saying i'm sick of talking about it i want to take a step forward i want to get out i want to do something i want to be a world changer come on strong tower students uh come on we need world changers we need young people like joseph who don't care what their brothers are doing who don't follow after what their brothers are doing hey i believe there's somebody in this place that needs a healing in their body and god has already told you that the healing is yours now he's just waiting on you to respond to his word come on but where is the child there has to be a faith listen that i have never in my life personally known a person who had the faith to say i don't care if i look ridiculous don't care because i've got to
