Summary
- Charles Grisham at Because of the Times 1994, preaching on tears and brokenness from Paul's farewell in Acts 20: a ministry measured in weeping, the broken and contrite heart as the place God dwells, and the promise that sowing in tears reaps in joy. He names his teenage son Darrin, present in the congregation, with a father's pride.
- **Thanks, and three things every day.** He opens in gratitude — for the invitation, and for family with him in the service: his son-in-law Ronnie, his son Mark, his daughter Cheryl, and his teenage son Darrin, anxious to be there. His life is ordered by three daily commitments: touch God, touch a project for God, and touch people for God.
- **The text: a weeping apostle.** He turns the congregation to Acts chapter 20 and reads from verse 17: Paul's service at Ephesus with tears and temptations, his refusal to shun any profitable thing, his charge to the elders, and his commendation of them to God and to the word of his grace. It is in Paul's tears that he finds his subject, and he announces it plainly: who's crying now.
- **The ministry of tears.** His diary would not be complete without the record of tears shed in private prayer, and he traces the ministry of weeping through the record: the Saviour weeping over the city and calling its people to weep for themselves and their children, Jeremiah wishing his head were waters and his eyes a fountain of tears, and the tears that will be in heaven for a little while before God wipes them away.
- **Sowing in tears.** The psalmist's promise governs the movement: go forth weeping and bearing precious seed, and doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing the sheaves. He follows the gospel's march through the ages and tells of a Chinese prisoner of the faith who kept his testimony through twenty-eight years in a cell, sustained by the privilege of prayer.
- **Brokenness.** The warning against neglecting so great a salvation sets the frame: attendance is not brokenness, and truth can be held as an intellectual knowledge without ever being groaned out in the existential realm. He considers who wrote the Psalms — the sons of Korah, who survived judgment and could sing of grace — and the ministries God gave his church to bring his people to maturity.
- **Intercession prayed in brokenness.** God's own address is given: he dwells with him that is of a broken and a contrite spirit. Against the accuser's path to the same throne he sets the intercessors' path, and the gleaners whose prayers and tears in the prayer room produced reapers — priestly, burdened intercession tied directly to brokenness and to revival.
- **The language of broken things.** He works through the Bible's vocabulary of brokenness — broken cisterns, ships broken in the storm, a sheep fallen with a broken leg, a broken horn — and brings it home to his own broken season: going to the altar again and again weeping, with and for his teenage son Darrin, who is in the service with him and loving the Lord.
- **What God looks for.** The conditions are gathered in a chain of texts: the Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit; and the Spirit of the Lord God anointing his servant to bind up the brokenhearted. Brokenness, not religious expertise, is what gains the attention of the King of kings.
- **Godly sorrow, and keeping the heart broken.** Godly sorrow works repentance in a careful, cleansing, vehement pattern, and the love of God constrains a man to live not unto himself. Salvation claimed without brokenness is forgery. Against it he reads aloud the bigot's creed — the exact opposite spirit — and presses the word as a penetrating beam and a hammer in the Spirit's hand, warning against the pride that goes before destruction.
- **The judgment imagined, the race, and the close.** He constructs the scene of standing before Jesus unprepared — the shame of it — His son Mark had told him of Greg LeMond winning the Tour de France without winning a single leg of it — staying close to the front and taking it in the hills: souls are won and lost by a hair's breadth. He recalls the Chinese man's testimony, and closes calling the congregation to open their hearts and look at Jesus.

amen I have so many feelings running up and down my back I've wept up cried up I wanted to shout real bitching okay I'm so inspired to be here and I'm so happy for this great church and what it's done to challenge all of us I have a mental picture of my mind if hot summer night in Tulsa Oklahoma when this precious man and this precious lady the just challenges we're preaching a revival hot summer night long before air-conditioning was even considered just a fan was in luxury marching around the city park her squeezing you know or accordion people sitting out there swatting mosquitoes on their front porches and we went back in the church and this brother here preached a dynamic message some people got the whole ego I was just a young boy in that church then you see we're all up the road now we're just so near to the coming of the Lord hallelujah brother Mangan but Anthony but a girl Manning your precious wire let me say thank you behalf of all of us amen it's just great to be here I couldn't begin to take the time to thank all of you that have been a blessing to me almost everyone that I've ever met has been a blessing to me I mean I mean Teddy some of you preached me up out of the right before some of you challenged me made me feel I can do something thank you and thank you Jesus hey man if I know my heart today I don't have anything against anybody so I can just preach how I've repented several times already today man I just want you to know that today I feel the Holy Ghost amen hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah God is a good god I said God is a good God before we read our scripture I thought after this meeting is history and we go home we will remember these feelings but there's something has to take place beyond the feelings these preachers that have preceded me today have already used numerous scriptures that I have already in my notes and at least one preacher sitting there said well they're on his too so I so it must be something the Lord's wanted to say to all of us so we'll all say it in a little different way but it'll all be it'll be to the glory of God but years ago sister me and asked me she said I'm asking every preacher I know how they spend their time said when you finish eat and come
into the front room I want to ask you how you you spend your time now so man what a personal question that's the preachers you know so I thought well sister me and I think I do three things everyday I said I I want to touch God everyday some way it's not always the same way sometimes it's a devotion in prayer sometimes it's just sitting there looking at the wall just waiting on the Lord to say something to me hallelujah and then there are times when it's easy to touch him it's just easy to touch him sometimes when we have the greater need we get business down to business a bit sooner we cut through all the Pilar I see but I try to touch God every day secondly I want to touch a project every day little outlive me a sermon a Bible study an outline of tract a book something that if I check out today somebody will say he was here amen in hallelujah and say work on a project every day don't waste God's time don't waste your time we've got to touch a while then thirdly I said I touch people every day this is just dead letter if it doesn't reach somebody if everyone in here wouldn't you go home from this meeting would write a hundred letters to just pick out anybody pick out somebody has been a blessing to you think of the thousands of letters it would encourage somebody hallelujah if you just everybody go home make a hundred phone calls think of how many lives we could affected hallelujah touch God every day and touch a project every day your sermons will live and die with you if you'd publish them let somebody else look over your shoulder after you're dead and gone share it with somebody it'll be better when they use it was when you used it I've noticed that about things I share but most of all be sure you touch somebody every day Oh hallelujah let's slap our hands today and magnify the Lord hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah well I must be sick yes my speech my seat a war Oh ah I all my sin must be say I have at least two of my children here today I'm three of them I think they're in the church up I'm so glad they're in the church I have one son-in-law here today amen brother Ronnie back to my son mark my son Darrin's here my daughter Cheryl Ronnie's wife Darrin has been so anxious to get here better man he said daddy I prayed I could get this have you got your family invested in this hallelujah and my wife is here she's put up with me for 45 years amen I've decided to do some things after you said what you did buy the manga few minutes ago how many of the Lord can say he's already touched you since you've been here if we went home today we've been touched some of you can say I've received direction today how many can say receive direction you got that little nudge that you need to do so now that we're focused on him let's go right now to the book of Acts chapter 20 we want to read to you several scriptures here sometimes we pick out something and try to substantiate it by something but it's good to just take it the way it reads you might find out a little bit more about what it's about I need all the help I can get don't you Acts the 20th chapter reading from verse 17 down through several verses there but you'll see some things that will develop a trend in your thinking and from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and call the elders of the church and when there were come to him he said to them you know from the first day that I came into Asia after what manner I have been with you at all seasons they say at all seasons does anybody know what you're all about verse 19 serving the Lord with all humility let's say all humanity all humility of mind and with many tears and temptations which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews and how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you but have showed you and have taught you publicly and from house to house testifying both to the Jews and to the Greeks repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ and now behold I go bound in the spirit unto
Jerusalem not knowing the things that shall befall me there say that the Holy Ghost witnesses in every city saying that bonds and afflictions abide me but none of these things move me neither count high my life dear unto myself so that I might finish my course with joy and the Ministry which I have received have the Lord Jesus let's say the ministry which I have received everybody's ministry is different but we got this from the Lord we didn't get this out of a book it's been fanned and challenged by people who knew all about it before we came along but we got this from the Lord hallelujah oh I'm glad we got it from the Lord don't you hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah verse 25 and now behold I know that ye all among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God shall see my face no more wherefore I take you to record this day then I'm pure from the blood of all men let's say I want to be pure we're not there yet for I have not shunned it Clairol and declare unto you all the counsel of God take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock or with which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers to feed the Church of God which has purchased with his own blood for I know this that after my departing shall Grievous wolves enter in among you not sparing the flock also of your own selves shall men arise speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them therefore watch and remember that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with what tears let's say with tears and now brethren I commend you to God into the word of grace which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified I've chosen as a subject today something that might be familiar to you but I want to ask you the question who's crying now let's pray again shall we God we believe you right now in your matchless name Jesus I invoke your blessings upon this congregation you bless every person here today akkad anoint your word Lord purify me Lord as a vessel here Lord anything that would hinder the move of your spirit and accomplishment Lord of what you've laid in my heart to take care of it Lord forgive me if I have anything Lord that would hinder I ask it in Jesus name and you may be seated or something about this particular text that amazes me it challenges me I I've been raised in Pentecost I've come into this when I was just 2 years of age my mother was a good Baptist but she found out that to get the real truth changed her life and impacted the many hundreds of people there's something about preaching the cross I remember when I was evangelizing I take notes and in my journals and in my Diaries I would if something great happened I'd put Wow oh it was great or in the keeping of my journal in my early reflections with God during the day I'd put how I felt that day my diary would tell what happened that day but my journal would tell what I felt that day and sometimes when I would feel burden I think in my my journal I put all this is the blackest day of my life I don't know why now you got to remember somebody might look over your shoulder sometime and read what you write down so most of the time when you write things down you normally write things down that you know if somebody read it they would think properly say Amen but then later on I would back and in my burden I would know six weeks later why I felt that way on that certain day because you see the ministry is just not a little ditty it's just not something you whip up and kind of you know kind of breathe on a little bit like one young man awhile back said brother Grisham said you love to teach don't you and I said I sure do he said you know I don't think I ever did but one time he said that was accidental he said I just took my notes and slowed down a little bit you know but you see how fast you go or how slow you go is not all together exactly what's going to bring the results of God there's a ministry that God has given to our son and it didn't come from anybody else hallelujah the presbytery confirmed what was taking place but I'm going to tell you what when we got something from God we need to treat it very carefully because this is precious in fact the Apostle Paul you know he made it very clear he said you've noticed that in my preaching what I've had to say you've noticed I've wept about this situation this is more than a 45 minute presentation he said you you don't have to wonder what I'm all about but all I begin to look back into the life of Jesus Christ and I noticed when
Paul said if I want to know anything I don't want to know but one thing and that's Jesus Christ and him crucified he didn't just say Jesus Christ there was something about his message that he never was able to get away from the power of the Cross if you have a long time get a glimpse of Calvary it'll change your entire perspective Oh God don't ever let us stray very far from Calvary when I've analyzed I noticed when I preached about the Bible very little happen but when I preach the Bible a great deal of things happen that would amaze even me I wonder today how many more revivals we'd have and how many more results we would enjoy if somehow or another behind the scenes we would weep and cry over the word hallelujah and weep and cry over the world and we've been cry and then when we come to the house of God we can pick that pulpit with a smile on her face and if the tears come down the road just weep your way to victory just wipe the tears and keep reaching hallelujah God what's this church to be alive he walks into her feeling I noticed that Jesus wept over Jerusalem and it's not to cry he who is the god man wept over Jerusalem said how oft that would have been different if you could have just received what I was all about he then on one occasion told them to weep over their children Jeremiah the gifted prophet that never saw very much results of anything he ever wept over but he said that my head were waters and my eyes were fountains of Tears and it might shock you to know that there will be at least tears in heaven for just a little period of time but I'm asking you today have we decided that we can get away from the condition in the things that mother McCool mentioned and sister may and amplify I'm going to tell you what a weeping church a crying Church of the travails over Souls whatever they say in the pulpit I'm going to tell you a little bit far more effectively if we wept over the launch of our cities if we wept over our children that unsaved hallo I'm going to tell you what today God is moving in the earth like I've never seen him before there's more things happening in the things of God today than I've ever ever been aware of in all my life wherever God can find hunger he's moving more dramatically than I've ever witnessed but where people are not hungry it's deader than I've ever seen it in the psalmist in 126 song talked about that if we would go forth weeping and bearing price to see some were up the road you're going to doubtless come again with rejoicing Oh hallelujah but you see when the gospel came to Greece it became a philosophy neat little idea the way you people believe you've got some real different wrinkles there we'd like to talk a little bit about that you know it's a great thing you've come across something that we haven't seen that way but don't ever turn loose what you believe that's just your way of looking at but just just don't bother me with it but then when the gospel came to Rome it became an institution oh we got something here we'll lock it up where nobody can get into it unless they buy a franchise then we went to Europe and became a culture you know it's the way we live life yes it's the way we are but now that it's come to America over these several decades of time it has now become an enterprise it's the way people get rich it's the way that people make a living it's the way they sell jewelry it's the way they sell this and that the other thing they're selling everything from bandanas to to whatever you want to name it Fred and all in the name of Calvary but though I still want to preach a bloody cross I still want to see healings I want to see the power in operation of the things of the Spirit I'm old-time Pentecostal I like it this way I wanted to stay this way I believe that we've got the message let's prep our hands under the Lord glory hallelujah in churches that are in different cold if you want to just see what the temperature in the pulse if it happens to be preached on the coming the Lord lady while back you know came to church late and she said what's wrong pastor somebody died I said no I just preached about the coming the Lord I had nobody saying anything you know checking their watches people to check out of there if we really are the church this is supposed to be the courtship we weren't married yet I've had some daughters to get married I'm going to tell you that nearly go bananas they get ready to get married free nights the only thing on their mind but I'm going to tell you the courtship today is more exciting than the marriage we got major problems we ought to be in the giggly stage we ought to be so happy thinking about to coming the Lord that we think my God in heaven I want to go to heaven I want to be ready for the
coming of the Lord call hallelujah hallelujah God help us to be ready for your coming and to see others by the thousands ready I heard a man interviewed that was in China during all the times of great oppression and one of the Bible league's featured his testimony that impacted my life he said you know I love my Jesus he said but they jailed me because I would not recant my belief in Jesus he said they they threatened me with death they threatened me with all kind of things he said I wouldn't give up I kept loving my Jesus so they gave him a sentence the most demeaning you know thing that it could have been given to him they put him to work in the cesspool or shoveling human waste scooping keeping the troughs open and in the wintertime still shoveling to keep the trucks open in the summertime when the heat was stifling in the stage in the smell of fumes would almost burn your lungs he's still shoveling human waste he said Oh while I was there I was there 28 years but he said they didn't come near me there because they couldn't stand the smell but while I was there I sang to Jesus all day look I'm saying to Jesus all day long they didn't come near me there while I was there I prayed to Jesus all day long I shove oh yes I did but for 28 years they couldn't take away my love for my Jesus oh I'm going to tell you what my friend we haven't endured much like that but all I'm going to tell you whatever you got a shovel through whatever you got to overcome it's going to be worth it all hold on - kalbarri how shall we escape the scripture says if we neglect so great salvation we won't escape what we're doing today is already affecting eternity it's laughing up on the shores of eternity it's just already there by the same token the things we don't do or affecting our eternity in the Eternity of many others that's why when we come to a place like this to become challenged and once again have our eyes washed with tears get some new spring in our heels and get some new victory so we can go back and be more effective where we labor can you imagine how it must have been for the sons of korah I thought the old parish to list last summer I discovered that they made it through hello if you saw mom and dad and a couple of hundred people you know but the ground opened up you you swallowed them up in flames just kind of finish the work and here is the sons of korah maybe their toes were white-hot right on the edge of the cave Ian no wonder the Psalms that are written there well I'm going to tell you they can sing better than anybody when they survive they can show you the difference between Grace and judgment they came away with a thankful heart no wonder they can say oh just one day in the house of the Lord is better than a thousand anywhere give me the key to the church pastor I got to get over there because just to be in there it's what I want it's better than a good golf game it's better than the cruise it's better than anything hallelujah I was there I saw it happen Oh hallelujah and they said oh how amiable all that Tabernacles it's the best place in the world to be I just would do anything to get in the house of the Lord since the center of my world the gates are big enough sighing he's going to mention Rahab is going to be there all these different nationalities the people you see the church is big enough for everybody who says so sons of car they know what it looks like to see destruction I still remember where I might have gone I still remember what might happen to me I'm going to tell you I'm in love with Jesus Christ I want to do something to challenge my world let's slap her hands under the moon you see the church today stands as the tremendous jewel of all the ages we live in a day when we've seen almost everything come along they can sing almost as good as we can I said almost many of them were eloquent far beyond the questions and the lack of skill and education with this every time but I'm going to tell you one thing they have never learned what the deal is when it comes to the prayer of the people of God on their knees weeping and crying lost the devil will never cry over the lost he doesn't do that many years ago Khrushchev made this statement he said we'll bury your country without firing a shot but he came back a little later and he looked the situation over and he saw that there was much more here than he thought he saw that there was armaments like he had never perceived he saw that the
commitment of people he saw churches he saw all of those things and he went back and told his son there now lectures in one of our colleges he says we will have to learn to imitate them before we will ever overtake them I'm going to tell you what today my friend this is why we need to try the spirits anyone that would diminish the power of their blood anyone that would diminish the power of the Cross we need to let it really know that that's not the way it is that we're in this thing for keeps and we want to see the glory of God feel every place of worship I think sometimes we've been too fearful of even the dimension of the fifl ministry I was studying on this lately you know I believed it all my life but I got to thinking maybe the reason is some don't believe in prophecy if somebody was using prophecy they didn't like it so they just cleaned it all off you know or maybe somebody else didn't believe in apostles I don't suppose we're going to start printing our cards and say Apostle John or Apostle this or netting the other but all let's just take our fear oh and look and see what the Bible says I believe that the Apostle has the oversight of ministries the fathering of ministries it takes a man like this to see something that's big hallelujah I'm going to tell you we need to have somebody that has the oversight and has the fathering attitude toward the work of God then the Prophet who would disagree with the fact that we need some divine impartation there's got to be somebody as Willie Johnson used to say there's got fire on the bread I'm going to tell you we need fire in the pulpit we need fire on our mouth we need fire allure lips we must have these things to protect the church in the who would question the need for evangelist I'm not talking about somebody particularly just travels it has a nice briefcase in the Bible a few sermons I'm talking about some other can encourage the church somebody knows what the good news is all about it hallelujah hallelujah I tell the young preachers who work in our church I said don't you get on judgment things in our puppet I do well to handle that myself you just encourage the people you preach faith you talk about being obedient to the pastor you feel your place hallelujah God will help you do those other things at the right time but just be a good encourage if there's ever been a need for anything it's the ministry of encouragement someone will help you put a smile on your face then who would question the need for a pastor somebody that guards the flock and feeds the flocking and leads the and who could question the need continually for a teacher someone that knows how to explain the purpose of God and someone knows how to put the ways to the things of God we need the fivefold ministry I'd need perfecting I need and I hope that you see that maybe something I say that you might need it as well but oh there's no one-man shows in this thing free there's no big eyes this is a work of God this is the ministry Oh hallelujah hallelujah we're at the star like why don't we just pull all the stops and run Eric Ted Wayne let's tap our hands into the loom Christ and him crucified you see there's a two-fold path that leads to to the throne every day there's people that go sit on some go there as intercessors as intercessors and then there's some that beat the path to get there as an accuser God did you know what so-and-so did do you know what I know about soon so you know over here this other pathway somebody's come to say God I know something so-and-so renamed some help with how much it really helped someone so say the same throne sometimes people go with two different things in mind the devil is always going to be at that particular pathway to accuse about it hallelujah but the Bible teaches us in long cover sins how many of you had any beer sins covered wave your hand and say Lord I remember you covered my sins and let me just remind you that many a Reaper is the result of the prayers and the tears of a Gleaner somebody that maybe had arthritic knees that couldn't get out and knock doors and pass out tracts but on their knees in a prayer room somewhere beside the bed at home they continually went before the throne as an intercessor and as a result of their prayers a Reaper was saved somebody can really do a big job for God but we never needed to ever think little of the ones who are the Gleaners the ones that are now in the way places the ones that will take the assignments they'll never get their name in the paper oh god help us to continue have the Ministry of Tears we can weep over loss we can weep over our church we can weep over our cities and we can see the power of God demonstrated everywhere we go but I too was very fascinated by the the
scripture in Isaiah this is in 57 and 15 for thus saith the high and the lofty one that inhabiteth eternity whose name is holy high dwell in the high and the holy place with him also that is the contract in the humble spirit to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contract lines in other words will never be any higher with God than we are when we are the lowest in the spirit of humility that's where we are when we're the highest years ago where the bill drops was preaching for someone and the preacher said brother joste we've prayed for revival for years but we can't seem to have revival what could be the trouble he said as the Lord showed you anything he said well sir as a matter of fact he has he said the Lord told me that you didn't love the Brethren you see doesn't matter how fast how much fasting we do how much praying we do we can buy up all the printed materials in four counties and we don't love the Brethren there's an element there's an ingredient to revival that can't happen unless we have a lot for the Brethren how many of you want to tell the brother next to you the sister next to you I love you in the Lord do it right now hello yeah why then does it seem so long that revival just doesn't come I begin to notice a while back in these scriptures that I read to you in the book of Acts of mentions on several occasions there the Apostle Paul said you've seen how I really am and you know you know I've wept over you are cried over you and so you see that aspect the humility those tears that he's speaking about are directly tied to brokenness and directly tied to revival because you see this is an aspect of Christianity that's so seriously neglected there's so few people see there's any linked at all to Wheatland alone in prayer or weeping over so that has anything at all to do with what might happen in the dynamics when faith begins to work but all I'm going to tell you when our tears are covering and putting those seeds in a position where they can terminate we'll see faint operate more evenly and more powerfully I look this congregation over and I observe several of you that while brother Cole was praying and early in the service you were already reaching out to God I know what he had to say was good he had something to say for me there how many of you believe that God saw your tears there while ago when you're on this altar here you can get up then and believe it for bigger thing because you've wept your tears you cried your your prayers are you've repented if you need to repent and God brings about the dynamics of revival it just bursts forth and we see amongst as many people of brilliance but so few people have brokenness the old testament words for broken each of these has a distinctive shade or meaning may also be translated shattered as it was used in Jeremiah that the second chapter of the 13th verse to describe broken cisterns or in Ezekiel the 27th chapter in the 34th verse to speak of ships that had been broken in a storm or as Ezekiel used it in the 34th chapter in the fourth verse to describe a sheep that had fallen from height and had a broken leg or as Daniel used it to describe a goats horn that had been broken by an adversary it speaks of something that was whole and something that was adamant that had utterly been broken and if you will even fragmented and pulverized because you see brokenness is that frame and attitude of the heart and an individual takes before God in lowliness confessing his need of divine grace and assistance how many have gone there a lot of times just went there before God my son Daeron is here today and I'm so so proud of him you know teenager loving the Lord but while back brother Jerry Jones preached in our area earlier a year - before brother Wang and he preached there both nights I remember the night that brother magnet preached on carried I went to the altar not because I'd seen it put me right back there on my face again I wept and cried I wept and cried I wept and crying I renewed my thanks to God and brother Baker come up and put his big hands on my back I don't know what he's talking me laying there on the altar at the campground crying and praying I wasn't concerned about that at all but all the warm hands of my brother my friend hallelujah the preaching of the cross Oh hallelujah take me back again to calibrate don't let me straight very far from Calvary oh if we ever lose the dynamics of what Calvary is all about if peers of our sign of weakness we got major problems but Oh God do something to me Lord left my ministry be feeling and I care about the law student Darrin and I went to the altar at her brother Jones Princeton has his son
we've got to win souls together me and you we got to do it together we got to do it together when he is around people like Jason Cisco he said Danny Jason Cisco is a great man he's a great man I'm gonna tell you what I want my kids to see the things that are great in this thing I want him to see the people who love God I want him to see the preachers in her use of God all of the left the lost oh god help me never to lose the grasp of the intensity of what Calvary was all about it this is a precious thing I said it's precious brother Ewing it's precious Oh wave your hand and say Lord is precious brokenness is a soul like the cistern that's empty of its confidence and its resources you see brokenness is like the soul that shipwrecked on God how many of you remember when you crashed on Calvary how many of you remember what it took to get you to ever repeat Oh hallelujah aren't you happy that it happened though brokenness is like the Sheep that's been broken through its wonderings and now finds itself lying at the merciful feet of the shepherd the songs brokenness is a soul like the animal in Daniels vision bereft of its former powers in all of its mind and now finds itself submissive before an Almighty God oh Jesus I love you oh I love you Jesus come on church let's love in a few moments here oh Jesus you're so wonderful here's so lucky you're so wonderful Jesus you're so wonderful hallelujah hallelujah the term broken hearted or broken in heart or not mentioned very often in Scripture but it's obvious that the concept and the demonstrated words as they're employed there the contrite the humble the poor you see there's fire too little Calvary preaching anymore it's hard to predict him when the service might end it's hard to know whether you'll have an appetite or not you can't call him tell the waitress when to light the candles because when you preach on Calvary things are totally out of your control my god the preaching of the Cross is everything I think in some respects we begin to think of ourselves as the cream of the earth rather than the salt of the earth oh my god I'm nothing I'm nothing right not for the grace of Almighty God it was the preaching of the cross that saved my family it's still the preaching of the Cross that keeps us saved half Lewis has reshaped our concepts if we're not careful we'll believe in spiritual ammas classes I'm going to tell you what my friend and still takes the preaching of the cross it takes plain old repentance and all it's hard to die it's hard to die but all I'm still persuaded that the preaching of the Cross will get the job done we can have healings we can have dynamic miracles take place because of Calvary if we're not careful we'll practice spiritual genetics and we'll want to make sure that we abort the ones we don't want what would have been like if somebody didn't want you I told my boy driving here yesterday is a boy at school it bothers him a lot is limited I said son every time you're nice to that boy every time they're nice to that boy he'll come back to the thousand ways it might not be now but it'll come back in two thousand ways every time you're kind to somebody home missionaries go to places in the first converse again or of that particular cut but I'm going to tell you you and I are not very far up the road we might have good sense and have a good education and yet we're still not exempt from Alzheimer's disease when we get older I'm going to tell you what I don't think I'm going to have to get it but I still believe I got to be kind to those that don't understand even what third themselves doing we've got to have the love of Christ Paul talked about constraining him Oh hallelujah wave your hand said Lord I've got to have that kind of love jesus said go get him the whole Delaine the main the brokenhearted the wounded had a ragtag list to build a church however but we've got to get them hallelujah let's don't ever become guilty of recreational worship either hallelujah I stopped that church every now and then I'll have to beat my tambourine and jump around but there's times and I say stop everything we're going to stop right now I want us to close our eyes and think about Jesus
I think it's possible that we can preach an entire sermon never think of Jesus sing all night long and never think of Jesus but I said we're going to slow down right now we're going to sing down from your glory everliving story my god and savior came those old-time songs if somebody got up and left Church early they still got a message whether they liked it or not I love the new soul I love the old soul but let's keep our focus on Calvary how is this brokenness thing to be regarded 34 Psalm the eighteenth verse says the Lord is nigh unto them letter of a broken heart and save us such as we have a contract spirit these are essential conditions for God's presence in his power the 51st Psalm the seventeenth verses we've heard it today already the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit a broken in a contrite heart O God that will not despise so it's an essential to God's acceptance in favor God takes no delight in offerings that are not accompanied by broken hearts Isaiah the sixty-six chapter in the second verse - this man will I look even to him that is a poor and of a contrite spirit and trembling at my word how long has it been since when the word went forth it's just hell has it work across the congregation and we tremble at his word oh I'm gonna tell you what my friend oh she should be such an of the presence of Almighty God - when the word goes forth that will hold it in all in high esteem it's the power of God into our salvation when we believe as a the 66 chapter the second verse I think I read it to you again to this man while I look how many wanting to get God's attention if you want to get his attention even to him that is poor that doesn't mean how the money just means somebody's got an attitude that I need God I got a happening I came here I needed God brother magnet man I'll how watered even I got a hole everyone go I got ahold of him when brother Cole was preaching I got ahold of him when sister Mangan was preaching I got ahold of him while brother McCool was preaching I'm going to get ahold of him every chance I get because he said if you really want to get ahold of me you just show me you need me and just show me that my word does have some impression and impacts your life once again we see it's the brokenness in our spirit that gains the attention of God again in 57 and 15 of Isaiah I dwell in the high and holy place with him with him also that is of contrite in the humble spirit to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the contract so here the key obviously is brokenness hallelujah house in the sixth chapter in the first verse the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings under the meek and sent me to bind up the brokenhearted so God became a man just for the purpose taking care of people I can't I cannot amazing how many can say that's amazing George cooking in the 17th century says brokenness is that which God death principally and more especially look after in all our approaches and accesses unto Him in other words if you want to get near to God come as low and as humbly again hallelujah hallelujah how then can we recognize this quality it gets down kind of deep here you see the broken hearted person recognizes the majesty of God let's see the majesty of God lift it up holy sovereign Oh hallelujah Oh wave your hands the Lord you're there hallelujah say Lord I feel you right now say Lord I love you right now come on Oh hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah how many times have I said in my office to listen to tapes of sister mang and challenging us like she did today how many times can I remember you know hearing her her talk about you know you never mentioned him to me and then singing how many times do I remember sister ghazzal scheme maybe leading the conference choir and we thought of the lord is high and lifted up hallelujah in the power of God is always there when people come to the house of God and living in such a manner that they represent to God I need you today I want you today let's clap our hands under the Lord Oh hallelujah if something doesn't happen to break it it'll finally happen up the road somewhere whether we order it or not no wonder brother Oldham can preach the good think of the things that going through no wonder the McGruder's can sing so good think of the things they've gone through don't matter any way you look at it look at the earrings no matter the Lord uses in the way look what they've going through look at the Kilgore's look at the earth look at anybody look about a Pew look at the one next to you everybody here my friend has met their Waterloo it doesn't matter who we are but we come out of it with glory and with Fayza because of the cross the
preaching of the Cross may be foolishness but it's the power of God to me chlorine glory cooking hearted person is deeply conscious and the meaning of sin Oh Paul said you know godly sorrow what repentance second Corinthians the seventh chapter beautiful outline he says what carefulness it wrought yay what zeal yay what revenge who dad McCutchen in the home church in Tulsa he'd get him testify said I get some mad at the devil I just like to bust him I wasn't too polished to testimony but we got the point how many of you would like to do something to show the Lord's love to you now let me just simply tell you this when we love the Lord we're not doing this to get back at the devil when I love the Lord I'm loving the Lord because I love him when I love my wife I'm not trying to get back the boyfriend she had before I met her I love her because I love her I love Jesus Christ because I love Jesus Christ I don't love Jesus Christ you get back at the devil I love Jesus Christ because I love Jesus Christ I love Jesus Christ because I love Jesus Christ he's my healer he's my Redeemer clora clap your hands unto the Lord praise God hallelujah my little brother years ago said that's a truth and a half how many of you remember how miserable you were before you came to God oh it's been worth it hasn't it then how can this be realized in our life we've considered brokenness you know has an essential condition of the heart now the majesty and awareness has got to be there the mercy of God that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us how can we learn this in our personal life hallelujah our human heart must continually be broken by the Word of God as its applied to the point of our deepest need whatever you need is today is like a laser it wasn't those smart bombs the first time that God used laser perfection I think it guy to bomb into a window they could put it inside a pipe on the top of a building God can get to you through the rubble through the problems through the dishonor to the things that you thought were piled so high if God didn't even know where you were well if they know we're all smoke he is in Yellowstone natural National Park God knows where you are in the midst of problems he can get through to you he can get through to you when you got a mask and you're taking oxygen in the hospital he can get through to you in a prayer room he can get through you to divorce court he can get through to you wherever you are he's a God that's interested in you word of god like a hammer wielded by the Spirit of God to break up the unyielding stony heart scripture tells us that pride goes before destruction the haughty spirit before a follow the word is even even working out while I'm preaching the word is working right here God's been talking that precious sister all service long she knows who she is I know God's dealing with her he's assuring her he's got her on the top of his list he's healing her he's taking care of her hallelujah how many of you believe that God's lasers had you targeted Oh service law hallelujah hallelujah well back some young people misbehave in church and I just got so upset about it I thought I must dismiss this service I apologize to the church for this misbehavior I'm normally by minority they could drop a bomb in the nursery how much not have been as ignored as I need to be that night but you know I I said I love all of you but I I wanted to pray I knelt down here and I began to pray some come in in my church that loved me so much they came and laid hands on me and began to pray for me said encouraging Lord I thought get your hands off of me I wouldn't want to misbehave get your hands off of me I wouldn't want to misbehave don't pray for me and then it occurred to me hey it's sending some people off the
street this is some men they love me this is some inner-tube leaving me these are cement if Moses needed somebody to hold up his art I'm not anything like Moses I certainly need somebody to hold my arms now near I don't have it made yet I need the ministry the station we all do we got to have one another clap your hands under the law then how can we retain this how can we retain it John Bunyan made the statement he said even as to have a broken heart is an excellent thing so to keep a broken heart is an excellent thing once our hearts have been suffered like wax in this time we must seek to keep them soft and pliable once our hearts have been broken by the ploughshare of repentance let's keep them in such a condition that the good seat of the word may take root and bear fruit once our hearts have been melted like ice placed near a fire we must desire to keep them in that state how many want to have a humble spirit when the Lord comes how about him come and begin to play that song softly I'm going to be concluding here in just a few moments don't excuse sin on any ground call it by its name because it's the cold breath of sin that freezes the ones melted heart it's like tempering steel every time that you and I are heated by conviction oh we just melt thank you Jesus now conviction while ago I made some commitments to God like oh I didn't involve seeing it just meant the rearranging of some priorities amen don't entertain hard thoughts against God nothing hardens like unbelief do not hold grudges mr. Buddha Baroness make much of the blood make much of the blood don't become a bigot don't become a bigot to the bigots Crete reads like this believe as I believe no more no less that I am right and no one else confess feel as I feel and only as I think eat what I eat and drink what I drink look as I look and do as I do then and only then I'll fellowship you that I am right and always right I know because my convictions tell me so and to be right and simply this to be entirely and in all respects like me to deviate a job or to begin to question doubt or hesitate is sin let's sink the drowning man if he'll not swim upon the plank that I throw him let starved the famishing if he'll not eat my kind in quantity i bread and meat and let frees the naked to if he'll not be supplied with garments such as made for me we're better that the sick should die than live unless they take the medicine I give we're better that sinners perished and refused to be conformed to my particular views we're better that the world Stood Still then move any other way then that which I approve it's the biggest grade I've never seen one human being I'd want to go to hell never one person and when I preach about hell I want to be sure I'm crying I want to let everybody know I've never seen one human being that I would like to see them go to hell let's say tonight that after this day has complete that we would find ourselves raptured out here and we would be standing before God how many of you believe in the marriage supper of the lamb I don't know what your views are on prophecy I just put something together here today just show you how it might be but any let's just say that we are all brought there and it seems that at that particular time at the marriage supper no there will be what we know to be as the judgment seat of Christ and oh how it will change your life if you ever get a slight comprehension of what the judgment seat of Christ is all about when we we'll know as we're known let's say that that great big table that there will be brothers it'll be seated next to one another that on earth they had much difficulty getting along with one
another because there was little wrinkles about the two of them that they wouldn't yield anything in the Lord I believe in this seating arrangements will very likely see those kind of people together Oh will he be uncomfortable the whole boy you made it yeah and I made it somehow we made it and then whatever the food happens to be that day will seem to be of so little significance I believe from one end of that bow to the other people begin to cry there'll be people that will leave here is four-star generals when they depart here because they've received all there are rewards and honors here and then when we maybe the Lord will just simply say let's get up from the table for a few moments and I'd like to take you up the hallway here to show you and we'll all walk there weeping and crying over the doorway it might just say gallery of unclaimed crowns and there's Rishon scatter over there there's a few crayons that obviously I'm not there and there some that weren't scarcely touched because I was too busy being Christian not enough time to be like him and then we'll come back down the hallway is anybody in the mood to eat and they will come back down the hallway and just after all of the awards and all area received again there had his throne and in here we'll come with our measly little crowds from a retraction we'll cast our crowns his feet because we'll feel uncomfortable to have any crowns in the presence of the one who did it all for you I really am he's crying there who's crying let's just think of the man that was the most bizarre you can ever think of this going on to meet the Lord and he made everybody you know uncomfortable just messed up everything he's hot yet he loves the Lord and somehow the economy of got here he probably gonna be there what you like it or not it's like oh how much mess you've made for some people I think how men's well you made somebody's life but somehow another brother back then I tell you what's going to happen but a Pew I believe the Lord's own head come around say all right now boys we got a head on back now wiping tears away there we wipe your tears away there you did real good but you remember back in 1952 you remember and then we'll know as we're known or in 1948 you remember when you took a turn that day or when you had a grudge against somebody held for about six months let me just open your understand there's what could have happened if you would have only known if you default on that person's neck and ask for forgiveness 20 years ago there's a picture how it might have been and we'll head back to earth for a thousand years some little old fella from some rice paddy over in one of the eastern countries are somewhere over there and will walk away with all the awards maybe he rode a bicycle that somebody bought for him through she's for Christ maybe he wrote an old donkey through the town oh he had was just the basic things and here we were we had a ball and the Lord said all right we're coming back now you know organizations during the Thousand Year reign just be Jesus and by the way that'll be enough he'll be enough hello Lee I said that'll be enough how many do you love him today I must close so much more I'd love to
say but my son mark told me a few years ago I wouldn't know hardly what they do at a bicycle race at all but several years ago the Tour de France was held by the nations of the world and a man by the name of Greg LeMond from our country was the star bicycle marathon racer and the USA Today paper every day gave an update American flag got there gave the update where they were that day 22 days I believe it is a grueling over 2,000 miles of terrain of different types of terrain hills and valleys and winding roads and on every day it gave the update or a Craig LeMond was they told me you can't make it you can't race anymore you were injured and you'll never be strong enough to compete with those younger guys he said I will I'll be able to so at the end of the marathon he never won a single leg of the race not one but he walked away with the honors I thought thank God for America our boy won he said how did you win grant he said well I won that marathon the first time I want it with my head I went with my heart and went with my legs the first time my heart and my leg but he said the last time I want it with my head I knew had to win he said every day when I take off on that race I try to stay close to the front because the wind would come across the body of the lead bicyclist it would take a little bit of resistance and I'd ride in his wake he said I knew if I could stay close in the flats I'd take it in the hills hallelujah and I begin to think of that scripture I will look unto the Lord hallelujah to the hills from whence cometh my strength we don't have to be the best at anything we've just got to be the best we can and everything and then we're gonna win and when they distributed three hundred and sixty-five thousand dollars mr. LeMond says I don't want any of it give it to the guy that repaired my bicycle tire give to the guy that puts am on my my shins and give it to the guy that rubbed my muscles when they were cramping give it to them he gave all of it to his team give it to the team give it to the team Oh hallelujah let's win let's stand well the CDC yes take the hand of somebody they're holding up I say that's good for the team for give me oh now this way together listening it when the people my heart Oh Oh ah I I must be Oh the little Chinese man maybe didn't even have the truth that we had conceived all human waste for 28 years surely I can take the few things I have tender hallelujah isn't God good why don't we just open a hard time right now promote would you do that right now just close your eyes and just open to him right now help Oh God look at Jesus you
