Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

God's prayer — give me thine heart

  • He opens by dividing every service into participators and spectators, then reads a single verse — Proverbs 23:26, "My son, give me thine heart" — and treats it as God's prayer over the house.
  • Before God asks for anyone's money, time, or service, He asks for the heart, because half-hearted effort is one of the most miserable conditions a person can live in.

Scriptures: Proverbs 23:26

The diagnosis of casualness

  • A spirit of laid-back indifference dominates the age — casual about work, responsibility, and commitment — and it constantly tries to push its way into the church.
  • Against it he sets Solomon's rule of doing whatever your hand finds with all your might, and Jeremiah's curse on the one who does the work of the Lord deceitfully, unpacked from the Hebrew sense: slothfully, slackly, with idle hands.
  • He confesses his own repented seasons of going through the motions on his knees and insists he does not want to preach, sing, or pray tonight with his heart somewhere else.

Scriptures: Jeremiah 48:10; Deuteronomy 4:29; Jeremiah (book-only, as spoken); Psalm 63

Jacob — a heart that would not stay casual

  • Jacob is the Bible's portrait of a heart that would not stay casual: reaching from the womb, grasping a heel before he had the strength to lift his head, scheming after a birthright and a blessing that were not his, multiplying another man's flocks, and finally wrestling an angel through the night on the same refusal to let go that marked his birth.
  • Before Jacob had knowledge he had hunger; before strength, drive; before a name, a nature.

Scriptures: Genesis 25:22

Daniel and the psalmist

  • Daniel belongs in the same company — a man who set his face toward God and prayed until the answer came.
  • So does the psalmist of Psalm 42, whose soul pants after God like a hart after the water brooks: a thirst that prays when it does not feel like praying and responds when it does not feel like responding.

Scriptures: Psalm 42:1

The personal close

  • He closes on his own testimony of praying that he would rather die than stay where he was spiritually.
  • No one can ride another person's sacrifice into a deeper walk with God: you will never get an anointing you did not work for.
  • The appeal calls the whole house, young and old, to pray together as one family.

Scriptures: Hosea 10:2

Hallelujah. Would you give him a sacrifice of praise all over this house? Why don't you lift up your voice right now? Oh, come on. He said, "It's a sacrifice of praise." Why don't you give him a praise that cost you something in this house? Oh, it may cost me my pride. It may cost me my comfort. Oh, but I'm going to give him a sacrifice of praise in this house. OH, YES. AH, HALLELUJAH. HALLELUJAH. HALLELUJAH.

Well, in every service, there's two groups of people. And I can tell you a lot of times I've been both. You can either be a participator or you can be a spectator. And I'm going to tell you, church is always so much better when you just participate. You get so much more out of it when you get involved. Anybody? Anybody can testify that's true. Hallelujah.

I want to say how honored I am to get to be here at FBC again. What a tremendous treat, honor to be here. The book of Proverbs, chapter number 23, verse number 26. So thankful to have brother Holmes back. How many appreciate your pastor, man? His wonderful family. Everything this family does is first class. I love you. I appreciate you so much. Bishop, Sister John Ed, I love y'all very much. So thankful to have my wife here with me. Got to have her here pretty much this whole time we've been here. And that has been such a treat.

In Proverbs chapter number 23 and verse number 26, one verse and then I'll let you be seated tonight. I believe this is the prayer of God in this house tonight. My son, give me thine heart and let thine eyes observe my ways. My son, give me thine heart. Lord, give me this yesterday. And I have really prayed that it would come together. Wish I had a little more time, but I feel that this is right and I feel that God's going to speak to us. I feel like God's going to anoint us. And I want to talk to you for just a little while on this subject. Give me thine heart. Give me thine heart.

Lift your hands with me one more time all over this house. Oh God, I could feel your anointing in this house, Jesus. Oh, come on. Would you help me pray? Oh, come on, prayer warriors. Would you link up with somebody you're standing next to? Oh, hallelujah. Hallelujah. Minister to us tonight. Speak to us in this house, God. Come on. Why don't you help me for just a couple more moments in this house? Come on. Come on. If you haven't lifted up your hands, why don't you lift up your hands? Why don't you close your eyes? Come on. We got to get the anointing flowing in this house tonight. Oh, hallelujah. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Would you give the Lord a hand clap of praise? Oh, praise you, Jesus. Hallelujah. Be seated tonight. Thank you for standing.

You know, I found in my life that there is not much worse than half-hearted effort. One of the most miserable feelings that you can have is going through your day and come to the completion of that day, laying your head on that pillow at night, knowing that whatever you were doing that day that you did not give it everything, that you gave the bare minimum that was required of you and just got through what you had to do. Way I see it is if you're not going to put your heart into what you're doing, then what's even the point of doing it? It's a biblical principle that we read about time and time again. Bishop said it this past Sunday morning. God does not like attitudes that are lazy, that are unconcerned, and that are indifferent. Solomon would write and say, "Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." Another translation would say, "Whatever the activity in which you are engaging, do it with all your ability." I want to pause and say this is something that I feel that this church has mastered. That is no matter how major the task is or how small the task is, there is a spirit of excellence that has gotten on some people in this house and it has become a part of their DNA. What Solomon said, this is what I found to do and I'm going to do it with everything that I've got.

I remember being a teenager and none of these guys here would ever guess it. We played ball this last week, so I'm sure they wouldn't guess that I actually did used to play a lot of basketball. But I remember playing ball growing up, and there was nothing more frustrating than having a teammate who wouldn't try. Nothing worse than having a teammate who just didn't care if you won or if you didn't win. I didn't care if they were good or if they were bad. But what I did care is if they would not try. I would have rather had a teammate who was not good but would really try than someone who was good but would not put his heart into what they were doing.

Seems that in our world today the vast majority of people they go through life and they simply do not care about what they are doing. I know I'm painting a blank picture today but I'm going to go somewhere tonight. Most of the business owners in this house, you could testify that boy, it's hard to find good help these days. Anybody ever said that? Hard to find people that will work and that actually care about what they are doing. They're casual about work. They're casual about responsibility. They're casual about commitment. And it's the spirit of this age. And whatever spirit dominates the world will always try to weasle and to push its way into the church. And I want to preach to you that if we are not careful and if we don't have our guard up every time that we come to church, there is a spirit of casualness and there is a laidback indifference that if we are not careful, it will push its way right into the church and rob us OF A MOVE THAT GOD IS WANTING TO GIVE US. Would say in Jeremiah 48 and10, "Cursed be the one that doeth the work of the Lord deceitfully." Now, I had never looked this verse up in another translation until this week, but I found a translation that said it like this. "Cursed are those who do not do the Lord's work with all their heart." That word deceitfully in the King James version that words mean it means slothful. It means slack. It means with idle hands. He said, "Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord but does not put his heart into what he's doing." I've come to TELL YOU ON THIS TUESDAY NIGHT, I DON'T WANT TO COME TO CHURCH AND NOT HAVE MY HEART INVOLVED IN WHAT GOD IS WANTING TO DO. I DON'T WANT TO PREACH TONIGHT IF MY HEART'S NOT IN IT. I DON'T WANT TO SING TONIGHT IF MY HEART'S NOT IN IT. I WONDER IF I'VE GOT ANYBODY IN THIS HOUSE THAT WOULD SAY WHEN IT COMES TO GOD'S HOUSE, I WANT MY HEART TO BE INVOLVED. HALLELUJAH.

Thought so many times about the times that I've come to church and boy, I had such a lack of seriousness when it came to the things of God and I've repented for the times that I come to church AND I GOT DOWN ON MY KNEES TO PRAY, BUT REALLY I WAS JUST GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS. I WANT GOD TO CHANGE SOMETHING IN ME TONIGHT. I WANT GOD TO HELP ME GET MY HEART INVOLVED IN EVERY WORK IN EVERY FAUCET AND EVERY PROGRAM OF WHAT GOD IS WANTING TO DO.

I remember several years ago, I was probably 14 15 years old. I took a trip overseas with my dad and we were in a country where the last thing in the world I would ever want to do is get stuck. And one day I did the thing that my mom had warned me about for every trip that I had ever taken and that was this. Always know where your passport is. You going to go through a lot of trouble if you lose that passport. And I remember the day that I could not find my passport. I started tearing that hotel room up. I started looking under everything in that room, picking up furniture. I tore my luggage up trying to find it. I retraced my steps. I went to restaurants that we had been to and coffee shops that we had been to looking for this passport. There was a fear. Everybody say a fear. There was a fear inside of me of what would happen if I did not find it. I remember finally finding that beautiful navy blue passport and the relief and the joy that I found when I got my hands wrapped around it and I felt the Holy Ghost speak to me and say, "When was the last time you sought for me like that?" Telling you, it convicted me so bad. I can't help but wonder where would I be today if every time that I prayed, if I sought GOD WITH AS MUCH DESPERATION AS I was seeking FOR THAT PASSPORT. I'M JUST TELLING YOU, GOD HAS SO CONVICTED ME OF THE TIMES THAT YEAH, MAYBE I COME AND I MARKED IT OFF MY CHECKLIST, BUT MY HEART WAS NOT THERE. AND MY MIND WAS NOT THERE. I'M TELLING YOU, I CANNOT AFFORD TO BE CASUAL WHEN I COME TO CHURCH. AND TO PRAY WITH NO DESPERATION AND TO WORSHIP WITH NO SINCERITY. I'M TELLING YOU, THERE OUGHT TO BE A FEAR IN OUR HEART OF WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON'T FIND GOD. THERE OUGHT TO BE A FEAR. Why don't you lift your hands in this house right now? COME ON. I WISH YOU'D PRAY WITH DESPERATION IN THIS HOUSE. COME ON. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE'D REALLY SEEK HIM IN THIS HOUSE? WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE'D REALLY GET A HOLD OF HIM TONIGHT? HALLELUJAH.

Well, there's something so devastating to see, something that it has dwelt in my mind so many times and that is finding an individual that one time they were so passionate about the things of God and THERE WAS SUCH A FIRE THAT WAS ON THE INSIDE OF THEM. AND IT'S not that they don't believe THE TRUTH ANYMORE. IT'S NOT THAT THEY'RE NOT IN THE CHURCH ANYMORE. IT'S JUST THAT THE FIRE AND THEIR HEART BEING INVOLVED IS NO LONGER THERE. I WANT TO PREACH TO SOMEBODY IN THIS HOUSEHAVE COMMANDMENT. HE SAID HERE, "O ISRAEL, THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD." BUT HE DID NOT STOP THERE. HE SAID, "AND THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT." THAT'S WHAT THE SHAMA IS. I'M TELLING YOU, THE SHAMA, IT'S NOT FULFILLED IN JUST KNOWING THAT THERE'S ONE GOD. IT'S UNDERSTANDING. YES, I KNOW WHO HE IS. YES, I KNOW WHAT HIS NAME IS. BUT I LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY HEART AND WITH ALL MY SOUL. I'M TELLING YOU, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT SCRIPTURE AND IT NOT MOVE ME AND IT NOT STIR ME.

You know, not only does God know when our heart's not in this thing, people know when our heart's not in this thing. I don't want to when that worship leader says raise your hands. I don't want to do it grudgingly. I don't want to do it cuz I feel like I have to. When the PREACHER SAYS SAY AMEN. I DON'T WANT TO WHISPER. HEY, I WANT TO GIVE HIM A HEARTY AMEN. I DON'T WANT TO PRAISE GOD LIKE I WANT TO GET MY HANDS IN THE AIR. I WANT MY HEART TO BE INVOLVED IN THE WAY THAT I PRAY, IN THE WAY THAT I WORSHIP, IN THE WAY MY GOD, I DON'T WANT TO SIT THERE WITH MY ARMS CROSSED. I WANT TO GET INVOLVED. HALLELUJAH. We cannot expect God to do what he wants to do if we're only willing to give HIM A HALF-HEARTED EFFORT. I'M TELLING YOU, HE SAID IN DEUTERONOMY 4 AND 29, IF YOU SEEK THE LORD YOUR GOD, YOU WILL FIND HIM IF THOU SEEKEST HIM WITH ALL THY HEARTTH AND WITH ALL THY SOUL. HE SAID IN JEREMIAH, HE SHALL SEEK ME AND FIND ME WHEN YOU SEARCH FOR ME WITH ALL YOUR HEART. THAT TELLS ME IF I WANT TO FIND HIM, I'VE GOT TO DO IT WITH EVERYTHING. IF I WANT TO COME TO THIS HOUSE AND FIND HIM, I'VE GOT TO SEEK HIM WITH ALL MY HEART.

Oh God, he said the effectual fervent prayer. Oh, oh, that we would get some ferveny in our prayer. Oh that we would put some effort and some energy. I KNOW I GET MOCKED BECAUSE OF THE WAY THAT I PREACH AND IT DON'T TAKE ALL THAT SCREAMING AND SHOUTING IT AND MAYBE IT DON'T. BUT I'M TELLING YOU I WANT GOD TO KNOW I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS THING. I LOVE THIS TRUTH. I WANT TO PREACH IT WITH EVERYTHING THAT'S IN ME. AND I'M TELLING YOU, YOU OUGHT TO WANT TO RESPOND WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.

I don't know 1% of the needs in this house today, but I'm telling you, we've got too many needs to go through the motions of an apostolic service tonight. I DON'T HAVE A CLUE. I DON'T HAVE A CLUE ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT ARE IN THIS HOUSE TONIGHT. BUT WHAT I DO KNOW IS THIS. THERE'S SOME MEN YOU NEED A WORD FROM GOD TONIGHT. THERE'S SOME MARRIAGES YOU NEED HELP TODAY. THERE'S SOME BODIES THAT NEED TO BE HEALED. THERE'S SOME MINDS THAT NEED WE CANNOT COME TO CHURCH AND PATANK OUR WAY THROUGH. I KNOW IT'S DECEMBER. I KNOW WHAT TIME OF THE YEAR IT IS. BUT WE'VE STILL GOT TO HAVE A MOVE OF GOD.

I love the way David said it in Psalms 63. He said, "My soul followeth hard after thee." Not relaxed, not casual, NOT LAIDBACK, BUT MY SOUL MY SOUL IS SEEKING YOU TONIGHT, GOD. I WANT GOD TO KNOW I'M WILLING TO GIVE MY EVERYTHING JUST TO GET HIS OR HE ALL. I'M WILLING TO GIVE ALL JUST IF I CAN FEEL HIS TOUCH. Come on, let's love him right now. Oh God. Oh God. Oh, I WANT TO GET MY HEART IN THIS GOD. I want TO GIVE YOU MY BEST GOD. I WANT TO GIVE YOU MY ENERGY, MY EFFORT. HE'S WORTHY OF YOUR HEART. HALLELUJAH. HALLELUJAH.

There were two brothers. In fact, they were twins we read about in our Bible. And although they were twins, they were so incredibly different. In fact, it would you would never realize how different they were and how different their approach to God was until you get to the scripture that says, "Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated." You don't realize the stark difference until you see how God feels about it. The reason was not because of talent, not because of ability, not because of personality, but because one had his heart in it and the other just did not care. Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated. We don't read that ESAU WAS WICKED or immoral or rebellious, but really his problem was even worse. He was indifferent. He just never got his heart in this thing. The presence of God, the blessing of God, it just never amounted to very much in his life. There were just other things that he thought was MORE VALUABLE THAN THE BIRTHRIGHT. IN FACT, HE WOULD BE WILLING TO TRADE HIS BIRTHRIGHT FOR NOTHING MORE THAN A BOWL OF SOUP. HE WOULD RATHER TRADE HE'D SATISFY A TEMPORARY APPETITE RATHER THAN RECEIVE AN INTERNAL INHERITANCE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND PEOPLE THAT COME TO CHURCH AND THEIR HEARTS NEVER INVOLVED AND THEY NEVER PRAY AND THEY NEVER RESPOND. I WANT TO PREACH TO YOU IN THIS HOUSE THIS IS A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH. THIS IS A MATTER OF HEAVEN AND HELL. WE CAN'T LET ESAU'S SPIRIT MAKE HIS WAY INTO THE CHURCH AND GET A HOLD OF USH AND CAN CONVINCE US. WE CAN JUST SIT BACK.

You mark it down. The services that God is wanting to do the most is going to be the times our flesh is fighting us the most. The services that God has wanted to do some real real big things are the services where we come in and we struggle to get connected. I'm telling you there's got to be a DAY IN OUR LIVES WHEN WE LEARN HOW TO DRIVE THAT APATHY OUT OF OUR SPIRITS AND WE LEARN HOW TO DRIVE THAT LAZINESS OUT OF OUR SPIRIT. I'VE COME TO PREACH TO YOU IN THIS HOUSEH WHEN YOUR FLESH DOESN'T WANT TO WORSHIP. THAT'S THE BEST TIME TO WORSHIP. WHEN YOUR FLESH DON'T WANT TO LIFT ITS HANDSH OH, GOOD THINGS THEY NEVER HAPPEN TO THOSE THAT SIT BACK AND WAIT. COME ON. BUT I'M TELLING YOU, IT'S SOMEBODY THAT'LL TAKE THE BULL BY THE HORN. IT'S A MANUH IT'S A WOMAN THAT'LL STEP UP AND SAY, "I'M NOT AFRAID TO WORK. I'M NOT AFRAID TO RUN. I'M NOT AFRAID TO GET A HOLD OF THEM. Come on, let's love him again in this house. Let's love him right now. Come on. Would you help me right now? Oh god.

Paul made a statement and probably most people in this house will be able to finish it. If a man doesn't work, he doesn't eat. And we believe that if a man refuses to work, then why in the world should he eat? We apply that to the natural, and that's true. Well, I can't expect to be fed and to provide for my wife if I'm not willing to get out of the bed in the morning and to get after life and what God is calling me to do. But I'm telling you, it's true spiritually, too. I cannot come to church and be disconnected and be lazy and sit back and have my arms folded and then expect God to spoon feed me every blessing, every miracle, EVERYTHING. I'M TELLING YOU TONIGHT, IF A MAN DOES NOT WORK, HE DOES NOT. DON'T EXPECT TO EAT WHEN YOU REFUSE TO WORK WHEN YOU COME TO CHURCH. DON'T EXPECT TO EAT WHEN YOU WON'T WORK IN PRAISE AND YOU WON'T WORK IN WORSHIP AND YOU WON'T WORK IN RESPONSE. HALLELUJAH.

God hated the spirit of Esau, but he loved Jacob's spirit. Jacob was so far from perfect. He had flaws. He had errors. In fact, his methods were wrong, but his motivation was right. He may not have gone about it the best way, but he was absolutely obsessed with getting more than what he had the day before. I found something about God and that is this. He loves to be sought for. God loves a man, a woman, a young person that sets their attention and their energy on finding him. I'm going to tell you a powerful match and that is this. It's a God who loves to be pursued and a man and a woman who gets obsessed WITH THE PURSUIT. DAVID SAID, "GOD, WHEN I HEARD YOUR VOICE SAY, "SEEK MY FACE." MY HEART SAID UNTO THEE, "THY FACE, LORD, WILL I SEEK." I'M TELLING YOU, GOD LOVES SOMEBODY THAT'LL SAY, "I HEARD YOUR VOICE, AND I'M WILLING TO CHASE YOU. I HEARD YOUR VOICE, AND I'M WILLING TO SEEK YOU IN THIS HOUSE."

From the very moment Jacob entered into this world, he came out fighting for more than he was already supposed to have. He was comfortable. preaching, grabbing, trying to get more than what he had. HE DID NOT STROLL and just casually walts his way into life, but every step had a purpose. In fact, in Genesis 25 and 22, the Bible would say that the children struggled within her. Contemporary English Bible SAYS SIMPLY THEY WERE FIGHTING IN HER womb before he even had an understanding of what he was doing. He was already fighting for more. He was already reaching for something beyond where he currently was. Before Jacob had knowledge, he had hunger. BEFORE HE HAD STRENGTH, he had drive. BEFORE HE EVEN HAD A NAME, I'M TELLING YOU, HE HAD a nature. Esau may have been born first, BUT WHEN THAT BABY CAME OUT, THERE WAS A TINY LITTLE HAND THAT WAS WRAPPED AROUND THE HEEL OF ESAU. I'M TELLING YOU, A NEWBORN BABY DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THE STRENGTH TO LIFT ITS OWN HEAD. BUT JACOB, THERE WAS SOMETHING IN HIS NATURE. THERE WAS SOMETHING IN HIS DNA. HE COULDN'T EVEN LIFT HIS HEAD, BUT HE COULD REACH OUT AND SAY, "I'M NOT SATISFIED. I WANT MORE THAN WHERE I'M AT." I'M TELLING YOU, WE WERE GETTING A GLIMPSE INTO HOW HE WOULD LIVE HIS LIFE. CONSTANTLY REACHING, CONSTANTLY STRIVING FOR MORE.

Birthright didn't belong to him, but he figured out how to get it. Huh. That blessing was not his, but he's the one that ended up with it. Those flocks didn't belong to him, but he found out a way to increase them and get more and more and more. In fact, there was that time that angel would appear to him and they would wrestle. In fact, he went all the way back to that day, hallelujah, THAT HE WAS BORN. HE WENT ALL THE WAY BACK. HE SAID, "BOY, IT WORKED FOR ME THE FIRST TIME I GRABBED A HOLD AND I WOULDN'T LET GO. LET ME TRY THAT AGAIN." UHHUH. AND HE GOT A HOLD OF THAT ANGEL AND HE SAID, "I WILL NOT LET YOU GO UNTIL YOU BLESS ME." I WONDER IF I'VE GOT SOMEBODY IN THIS HOUSEH. I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL YOU BLESS ME. I'M NOT LEAVING TILL SOMETHING CHANGES. Come on, lift up your hands. Come on. Why don't you lift UP YOUR HANDS? WHY DON'T YOU PUT YOUR HEART INTO THIS PRAYER RIGHT NOW? COME ON, YOUNG MEN. WHY DON'T YOU PUT YOUR HEART AND SOUL AND MIND AND EFFORT AND STRENGTH? PUT IT INTO THIS PRAYER RIGHT NOW.

The writer would say he is a rewarder. Anybody want to be rewarded by God? He is a rewarder not of those that just expect it to happen. Not of those that sit back and just wait for life to happen to them, but he's a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. DANIEL SAID, "I SET MY FACE TOWARD GOD." YOU KNOW WHAT that means? I made up my mind. I'm going to pray until I get AN ANSWER. THIS AIN'T TIME FOR CASUAL PRAYER. HE SAID, "I SET MY FACE. I MADE UP MY MIND." I'M TELLING YOU, THE DEVIL KNOWS THE TIMES YOU COME TO CHURCH AND YOU'RE JUST CASUALLY PRAYING. I'M TELLING YOU THAT DON'T SCARE HIM. WHAT SCARES HIM IS WHEN A SAINT SAYS, "I SET MY FACE. I'VE SET MY FACE. I'M NOT LEAVING TILL I GET A WORD. I'M NOT LEAVING TILL I GET AN ANSWER." HALLELUJAH.

Brother Can you come help me tonight? Psalms 42 he said as the heart panth after the waterb broke so pantth my soul after thee. Oh God my soul it's thirsty for God. It's not thirsty for the things of this world but MY SOUL IS CRYING OUT SAYING GIVE ME more of God. GIVE ME A GREATER ANOINTING. GIVE ME SOMETHING THAT'LL CHANGE MY LIFE. I'M TELLING YOU, A SOUL THAT'S THIRSTY FOR GOD WILL PRAY WHEN THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE PRAYING. A SOUL THAT'S THIRSTY WILL RESPOND WHEN THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE RESPONDING. I WANT TO PREACH TO YOU IN THIS HOUSEH. WE CANNOT LOSE OUR HUNGER AND OUR DRIVE. WE'VE GOT TO GET A HOLD OF THEM IN THIS HOUSE. HALLELUJAH. How do we come into this house and never get the change that we need? How do we come I know I'm not trying to harp on this week after week, but God, we are trying to ride off of the blessings of everybody else and the hard work of everybody else that is coming by this house every day and praying. You got to put the work in yourself. You will never get an anointing that you did not work for. You will never experience God and go deeper in God off of somebody else's sacrifice.

How's the heart pants for the waterbrook? That's how bad I need you tonight, God. That's how desperate I am for God in this house. God, I'm telling you, you can sit there and you can say, "I didn't mean this." When I prayed it, but I'm telling you, there have been times that I've gotten down on my face and I've prayed and said, "God, I don't care if you think I ain't telling the truth. I'm telling you this before God." I would get down and say, "God, I would rather die than stay where I'm at. I'd rather die than not go deeper than where I'm at. As the heart pants after the waterbrook, God, I need you as bad as I need air. I need you as BAD AS I NEED WATER. OH, if we felt that way, I'm telling you, there would never be A SERVICE THAT GOD DID NOT THUNDER IN THIS HOUSEH. OH, COME ON. I WANT TO PREACH TO YOU IN THIS HOUSEH. WE'VE GOT TO GET IN THIS REALM. WE'VE GOT TO GET TO THE PLACE THAT WE SAY, "I SET MY FACE. I MADE UP MY MIND. I'M GOING TO DILIGENTLY SEEK YOU, GOD."

Thank God for people that come by this church and they've got a passion. I listen to these people. Sometimes I'm here on this side or even in the office and God I hear prayers of desperate people in this house. I hear prayers. Brother Jonathan Davis heard him in here walking these aisles praying. I'm telling you, I heard a man that wasn't praying a casual prayer, BUT I HEARD WEEPING. I HEARD CRYING. I HEARD TRAVAIL. I WANT TO PREACH TO YOU. IT'S ABOUT TIME. EVERY PERSON THAT'S IN THIS CHURCH, WE GOT OUR HEART BACK IN THIS THING. I WILL NOT BE A ROBOT WHEN I COME TO CHURCH. I WILL NOT GO THROUGH THE MECHANICS OF CHURCH. I'VE GOT TO GET MY HEART.

God has always been after one thing, and that's your heart. If he can get your heart, everything else is his. If he can get your heart, he'll have your praise. Oh God, if he can get your heart, he'll get your affection. If he COULD JUST GET A HOLD OF YOUR HEART. IF YOU COULD JUST GET YOUR HEART IN THIS THING, he'd have everything else that he needs from you. I'm telling you, walking with God is so much sweeter when you get your heart in it. I'm just telling you there is no satisfaction in God with half-hearted response, half-hearted prayer, half-hearted worship, half-hearted. That's why you're so frustrated. I'm telling you, when you get your heart in it, oh God, it becomes so sweet. Prayer becomes such a privilege. You hearing me tonight? I said if you could just get your heart in this thing tonight.

Cursed is he that does the work of the Lord half-heartedly. Cursed is he who does the work of the Lord but does not have. You ought to have your heart involved in everything that when you're up here singing, you got to have your heart in it. Your talent ain't gonna break the yolk, sir. Ma'am, I'm just telling you, your singing ability ain't going to break nothing in this house. HOW GOOD YOU CAN PLAY THAT INSTRUMENT AIN'T GOING TO CHANGE NOTHING IN THIS HOUSE BESIDES MAYBE IMPRESS A FEW PEOPLE. I READ ABOUT A MAN THAT PLAYED A HARP AND YES, HE WAS TALENTED AND YES, HE WAS SKILLED. BUT I'M TELLING YOU MORE THAN THAT, WHEN HE BEGAN TO PLAY, I'M TELLING YOU, THE ANOINTING FELL. WHY? BECAUSE HE PUT HIS HEART INTO IT. HE PUT HIS SOUL INTO IT. HE PUT HIS MIND.

If he can get your heart, he's got everything else. But if he does not have your heart, you can be in the building but not even be here. That's what happens to people that don't have their heart in it. They start doing everything because pastor said so. They relegate God to a list of can and can't. But I'm telling you, when you get involved, I do this because he loves it. I live right because God loves when I live right. I'm not here trying to figure out what I can get by with. I've got my heart in this tonight. Hallelujah.

Stand with me all over this house. See musicians come. The problem with King Joash was not that he was disobedient. It was that he didn't put all his heart in it. Elisha said, "Strike the ground." And I'm telling you, he did it. He was obedient. But I want to tell you, let me even take it this far. It's not that he did not care. It's that he did not care enough. I'm not preaching to you don't care, cuz you wouldn't be at church if you didn't care. You would have made the effort to get dressed and come out on a December evening when it's cold and you feel like sitting. You wouldn't have put in the effort to be here tonight. Thank you for being here. But I'm telling you, I cannot afford to only give him half of me. He obeyed God, but he did it with a half-hearted response. My final scripture, Hosea 10:2. Their heart is divided now shall they be found faulty. God finds fault with saints that have divided hearts. I said God finds faults with those that have divided hearts. I'm asking you today as you step out of your pew. I'm getting ready to open this altar. As you step out of this pew, I've really come to plead with somebody and beg with somebody. I'm telling you in this house tonight, when you come to this front, please don't come here and come casually and do it out of habit. I'm reaching for SOMEBODY THAT SAID, "GOD, I WANT TO GET MY HEART MORE INVOLVED IN THIS THING THAN I'VE EVER HAD IT BEFORE." COME ON. IF THAT'S YOU TONIGHT, I WANT YOU TO STEP OUT OF WHERE YOU ARE TONIGHT. I'M JUST TELLING YOU, I WANT MY HEART INVOLVED IN THE WORK OF THE LORD. I DON'T WANT TO GO TO CHURCH AND NOT HAVE MY HEART. THAT'S HOW YOU BACKSLIDE. CAN YOU HEAR ME, YOUNG PEOPLE? THAT'S HOW YOU DON'T SURVIVE. YOU'VE GOT TO GET YOUR HEART IN IT, YOUNG MEN. THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT. YOU CAN'T DO IT CUZ SOMEBODY'S SAD. COME ON, SINGERS, HELP ME TONIGHT. YOU GOT TO DO IT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO. YOU GOT TO DO IT CUZ YOU LOVE IT. YOU GOT TO DO IT.

Listen to me. Don't come here and casually sing them. I WANT YOU TO THROW YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR IN THIS FRONT. I WANT YOU TO THROW YOUR HAND. COME ON. SHOW GOD MY HEART'S IN THIS. MY SOUL.
