Summary
Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.
Some things never change
- He gives honor to the pastor — asking the church to keep praying that God completely restore him — to the Smith family and Elder Smith, and to the ministry of the church. His one scripture is Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever," and his subject is that some things never change. We live in changing times: people change, circumstances change, an accident or sickness can change a life forever, and the world his grandmother describes barely resembles the world he grew up in. People are looking for something they can depend on — and the most important things in life will never change.
Scriptures: Hebrews 13:8
Jesus will never change
- Malachi 3:6 says, "I am the Lord, I change not," and with Him there is no variableness or shadow of turning — there is not even a possibility of Him changing. Because He never changes, His characteristics never change: if He has ever been a healer, a deliverer, a way-maker, or a chain-breaker, He still is in 2021. And His love never changes, whatever mistakes a person has made. Paul, who as Saul had killed Christians and lived with a haunted past, still wrote in Romans chapter 8 that neither tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, sword, death, life, angels, principalities, powers, things present or things to come could separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus.
Scriptures: Malachi 3:6; Romans 8
God's Word will never change
- Psalm 138:2 says God has magnified His word above His name; Isaiah 40:8 says the grass withers and the flower fades but the word of God stands forever; Psalm 119:89 says His word is settled in heaven; Luke 21:33 says heaven and earth shall pass away but His words shall not pass away — so every promise in the book is still for the hearer today. God and His word are one and the same: the Word that was with God in the beginning was made flesh (John 1:14). To cut out parts of the word is to try to take parts and pieces of God. The Bible was not meant for us to change it; it was meant to change us.
Scriptures: Psalm 138:2; Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 119:89; Luke 21:33; John 1:14
Salvation never changes — repentance
- The way to be saved never changes: you still have to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Faith without works is dead — it is not enough just to believe. Repentance is not being sorry you got caught; it is being sorry because sin is separating you from God and standing between you and a relationship with Him.
Baptism in the name
- Nicodemus came to Jesus asking about miracles, but Jesus told him something more important: except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (John 3). Baptism is immersion — the word means to be submerged; Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, Jesus was baptized in the Jordan, and nowhere was anyone sprinkled. Matthew 28:19 commands baptizing "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" — and a name is required for each. The name of the Father is Jesus: "I am come in my Father's name" (John 5:43); "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30); "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father" (John 14). The God of Genesis 1:1 created all things, and Isaiah 44 and the New Testament alike say all things were created by Him — the Father and the Son are the same person. The name of the Son is Jesus (Mark 1:1: "the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God"). The name of the Holy Ghost is Jesus too: the Comforter would be sent in His name (John 14:26). Paul therefore rebaptized John's disciples in Acts 19 in the name of Jesus, because there is no salvation in any other name.
Scriptures: John 3; Matthew 28:19; John 5:43; John 10:30; John 14; Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 44; Mark 1:1; John 14:26; Acts 19
You must receive the Holy Ghost
- You still have to receive the Holy Ghost to be saved — if any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. The evidence in Scripture is speaking in a language you cannot understand: in Acts 2:4 they were all filled and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave utterance; in Acts 10 the circumcision knew the Gentiles had received the gift because they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God; and in Acts 19 the Holy Ghost came on Paul's converts and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Even the mother of Jesus and the disciples had to be filled before Peter could preach at Pentecost. He closes at the altar: in Jesus dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily — He was the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, but more than that — and there is only one God, and His name is Jesus.
Scriptures: Acts 2:4; Acts 10

today that jesus will never change there's a lot of things that will change there's a lot of people that will change but can i tell you today that malachi chapter 3 and verse number 6 it says i am the lord and i change not hebrews chapter 13 and verse number 8 it says jesus christ is the same yesterday and today and forever hey not only does he not change but there's not even a possibility of him changing because the bible says with jesus christ there is no variableness there is no shadow of turning hey i've come to tell you people may change but jesus won't your problems may change but jesus won't hey because he never changes can i tell you his characteristics never change that means if he's ever been a healer before i've come to tell you he's a healer today if he's ever been a deliverer before i've come to tell you he's a deliverer today if he's ever made a way if he's ever broken chains i've come to tell you that in the year 2021 god is still in the business of working the miraculous so your problems may change but i want to tell you jesus won't change the circumstances in your life may change but jesus won't change your spouse may change your family member may change up on you but jesus will not change i want to tell you today that the love the love of jesus will never change regardless of the mistakes you've made regardless of how many times you've walked out on god and how many times you've made mistakes and fallen on your face i just want to tell you that the love of jesus will never change in fact the bible says that god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son hey i want to tell you the devil loves to tell people that you've made too many mistakes and that god no longer loves you but i've come to tell you the bible says that god commendeth his love toward us and that while we were yet sinners christ died for us hey i want to tell you what jesus knew the mistakes that you would make but he loves you anyway jesus knew the shortcomings that you would have in your life hey he knew the problems he knew the insecurities that you would have but i've come to tell you that he loved you anyway if anybody knew about mistakes it was paul paul formerly known as saul had killed many christians women children anybody who believed on the name of the lord jesus christ paul would kill them or take them into prison he knew what it was to have a haunted past he knew what it was no doubt to wake up in the middle of the night and think about all the lives and the innocent blood that he had shed but paul still was able to write in the book of romans chapter 8. he said who shall separate us from the love of god he said shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword he said i am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities or powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of god which is in christ jesus our lord so jesus will never change he'll never change number two i want to tell you tonight don't worry i don't have a lot of points today number two i want to tell you that god's word will never change this word that you're looking at today will never change the bible says in psalms chapter 1 38 and verse number 2 that thou has magnified thy word even above thy name the bible says in isaiah chapter 40 and verse number eight that the grass withereth and the flower fadeth but the word of our god shall stand forever psalms 1 19 89 says forever o lord thy word is shadowed in heaven luke chapter 21 and verse number 33 says heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away and i tell you today that what that means is that every promise that you find in this book is still for you today hey i've come to tell you we live in a day in an age where people say the word of god is outdated and people say the
word of god is no longer relevant in the world that we live in but i've come to tell you that this world is just as applicable to our lives as it's ever been before hey this book is not outdated this book doesn't need an update but every word of god is pure he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him we know today that god and his word are one in the same i know this is simple this morning for those of you that have been around pentecost your whole life but i felt to go in this direction we know that god is inseparable from his word the bible says in the book of john that in the beginning was the word the word was with god the word was god the bible says the same was in the beginning with god all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made slipping down to verse number 14 talking about this word the word that was there at the beginning this word that was there when the world was created the bible says that the word was made flesh the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory the glories of the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth so can i tell you today that when you try to take the word of god you try to manipulate it and you try to twist it to fit your lifestyle can i tell you what you are doing is literally trying to twist and manipulate god himself god in his word are one in the same so when you take the word of god and you want to cut this part out but but you want to leave this part i've come to tell you what you're doing is trying to take parts and pieces of god but i've come to tell you today that the bible says that all scripture is given by inspiration of god it's profitable for doctor for reproof for correction and for instruction and righteousness hey we don't need an alteration for this book we don't need to cut things out of this book hey but it's perfect just the way that it is we live today in a world where people think that the word of god should be subject to revision where people think that the word of god is subject to new revelations people want to add things that was never intended to be there people want to take away scriptures that maybe they don't like or maybe contradicts the lifestyle that they live but hear me today when i tell you that the bible was not meant for us to change it but the bible was meant to change us if we don't agree with scripture it's not the word that needs to change it's you if i don't agree with the verse in the bible that maybe it contradicts the lifestyle that i want to live it's not that i need to get in the word of god and try to change it and make it say what i wanted to say but it's me that needs to go into a place of prayer and says god i want to be lined up with the word hey i want to be lined up with what the word says number three this is my final point i feel like i haven't been preaching long number three and i tell you that salvation salvation the way to be saved never changes it don't change i want to tell you that there's still only one way to be saved hey i know some of you have heard it a million times but you're about to hear it a million and one you've still got to repent you've still got to be baptized in the name of jesus christ and you've still got to be filled with the holy ghost hey they people out in the world are in the denominal world they'll tell you all you've got to do is confess the lord as your personal savior all you've got to do is let the lord in and believe honorable but i've come to tell you that faith without works it's dead you've got to take what's written in the word of god and you've got to do something about it it's not enough just to believe it's not enough just to say i believe but you've got to do something repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the holy ghost he said you've got to repent it's still necessary today repentance is the first step repentance says is really being sorry about your sin it's it's not being sorry you ever seen somebody that's sorry that they got caught but not sorry that they did it that's not what repentance is i want to tell you repentance is being sorry because you realize that sin is separating you from god it's realizing that what you are doing
is actively getting in the way between you and your relationship with god i was reading an article several weeks ago written on repentance there were several comments on there of people saying you don't have to repent that was for people in the bible days that that's not today god understands your heart and i want to tell you god does understand your heart but the bible says that you've got to repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the lord hey we know we can't make it into heaven with sin in our life and the bible says the only way to have that sin remitted from your life the only way you can have access to the presence of god is through the act of repentance repentance we still believe in baptism can you say amen john chapter 3 the bible says of the same a man by the name of nicodemus came to jesus by night he said unto him rabbi we know that you are a teacher come from god for no man can do these miracles that's your doing except god be with him i notice with me today that nicodemus did not say anything about salvation he did not ask the lord how can i be saved he said i've been hearing about these miracles he was saying nobody can do these miracles that you're doing unless god is with him tell me about the miracles can i tell you even in the day we live in many people are attracted to miracles many people come to the lord for the wrong reason but the bible says that although nicodemus was asking about miracles jesus said hey there's something more important than you see in a miracle there's something more important than me telling you about the dead being raised but he looked nicodemus in the eye and he said accept a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of heaven the bible says nicodemus said unto him how can a man be born when he is old can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born listen to this right here jesus answered and said unto him except a man be born of water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spiritual marvel not that i said unto thee ye must be born again is anybody thankful you understand the plan of salvation today that word born that we're born when jesus said born of the water if you look that word up what that means is literally to come out of except a man come out of the water go down into the water and come out of the water i tell you it is impossible for us to enter into the kingdom of heaven jesus or john took people down into the water to baptize them jesus went into the jordan river to be baptized the bible says philip in eunuch philip and the eunuch came to the water and the bible says that they went down into the water and the bible says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned and i tell you that you cannot expect to be saved if you're not willing to go down into the water in the name of jesus christ that word baptism comes from a word called baptizo and what that literally means is to be immersed or to be submerged under the water there's many many millions of people that have been sprinkled and they think that they have fulfilled the commandment when jesus said you've got to be baptized but i just want to remind you that the bible does not say he that believeth in his sprinkled shall be saved in fact nowhere in the bible will you ever read that anybody was sprinkled in the name of jesus but every time somebody was baptized can i tell you they had to go down in the water they had to go down to a river they had to go down to a place where water was and they had to be completely submerged in the water i want to tell you baptism is still important matthew 28 19 i'm hurrying come to the music please quickly matthew 28 19 says go you therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the
name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost the name of the father the name of the son in the name of the holy ghost now when it says the name of to me that means that there must be a name when it says the name of the father doesn't that mean that the father's got to have a name but it says and of the son that means the son's got to have a name and when it says end of the holy ghost that means the holy ghost has to have a name i know it's simple today but just let me do this anyway john chapter 5 and verse number 43 this is jesus speaking read a letter in your bible the bible says i am come in my father's name and you receive me not he said if another shall come in his own name him you will receive john chapter 10 and verse number 30. the bible says that i and my father are one john chapter 14 the bible says philip saith unto him lord show us the father and it sufficeth us jesus saith unto him have i been so long time with you and yet hast thou not known me philip he that i've seen me i've seen the father and i'll say us thou then show us the father the bible says in genesis 1 1 in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth in isaiah chapter 44 the bible says by him everything was created and you read in the new testament the bible referring to jesus says by him were all things created whether they be in heaven or whether they be earth whether they be principalities or powers all things were created by him can i ask you today how could all things be created by the father and the son unless they're the exact same person hallelujah tell you about the name of the son over 20 times in the gospels as jesus christ referred to as the son of god mark 1 1 says the beginning of the gospel of jesus christ the son of god that's not one many people struggle with believing now what about the name of the holy ghost that's the last one that the the nominal world baptizes in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost the bible lets us know in john chapter 14 and verse number 26 once again you'll find that this is red letter in your bible you'll find that jesus was the one speaking he said the comforter which is the holy ghost whom the father will send howa whom the father will send in my name i've come to tell you today i know it's simple i know you've heard it a hundred times but the name of the father it's jesus in the name of the son it's jesus and the name of the holy ghost it's jesus and if you want to be saved you've got to be baptized in the only name that can save you paul came to some disciples of john in acts chapter 19 and they had been baptized in john's baptism and the bible says that because they weren't baptized the right way paul took these men and baptized them all over again in the name of jesus and i've come to tell you that if you've been baptized in any other name from the name of jesus if you've been baptized in the titles father son and holy ghost i want to tell you that's not good enough because the bible says that there's not salvation in any other name lastly today can i tell you you can be seated give me a couple more minutes and i'll be done i promise you've still got to receive the holy ghost if you want to be saved the bible says you're not in the flesh but in the spirit if so be that the spirit of god dwell in you listen to this right here now if any man everybody say any man if any man have not the spirit of christ he has none of his i want to tell you that the way you know you've received the holy ghost is when you begin to speak in a language that you cannot understand i was talking to somebody yesterday and they were talking to a man who was trying to explain to them that you didn't have to talk in tongues to know that you got the holy ghost some people know they've got it because of a good feeling inside and other people know that they've got it because they begin to jump and run but when i get the word of god and i begin to read about people who got the holy ghost i read about verses like acts chapter 2 and verse number 4 the bible says they were all filled with the holy ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance the bible says in acts chapter 10 while peter yet spake these words the holy ghost fell on all them which heard the word the bible says they have the circumcision which believed were astonished as medias came with peter because that on the gentiles also was poured out the gift of the holy ghost
well you may say well how did they know they received the holy ghost how'd they know that how did they know that the holy ghost was fallen upon these gentiles the bible says they heard them speak with tongues and magnify god that's the way you know you've received the holy ghost when you begin to speak in a language that you cannot understand one more time in acts chapter 19 the bible says and when paul had laid his hands upon them the holy ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied you've got to be full of the holy ghost if you want to be saved did you know even the mother of jesus had to talk in tongues did you know all the disciples even though they had seen the miraculous even though they had been in the presence of jesus even though they had seen jesus do so many wonderful things they still had to come to a place and get full of the holy ghost before peter could ever preach on the day of pentecost he had to talk in tongues and be full of the holy ghost would you stand with me all over the house and i tell you that the name of jesus is what will save you from your sin the bible says that there's not salvation in any other name because in jesus christ dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily is there anybody today that's thankful that you understand who jesus is come on would you lift up your hands i know it's been simple today i know you may have heard it a million times i know you may have heard this message before can i tell you that the holy ghost is for you today would you lift up your hands all over the house come on there's nothing like the revelation simply of understanding who jesus is come on the bible says that jesus had to open up their understanding that they might understand what the scripture was saying i'm believing there's some people today who god is going to open up your understanding today i'm believing there's some people who the scales are about to fall off of your eyes hey i want to tell you he was the father but he was more than that he was the son but he was more than them he was the holy ghost but he was more than that because in him dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily if you've got a need today i wish you'd find a way to this altar come on if you've never received the holy ghost if it's been a long time since you've talked in tongues i wish you'd step out of your view and find your way to an altar come on if you need god to do anything in your life come on why don't you at least just say thank you god that i understand who you are thank you jesus that i'm not confused about who you are but i understand there's only one god and his name is jesus
