Summary

Summary prepared by Acts 2:38 Life from the transcript below — the preacher’s words follow in full.

The contrast: righteousness exalts a nation

  • The text is Proverbs 14:34 — righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people — and this is Part II of the Sunday sermon on the same text.
  • Malachi 3:18 promises a day when we return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him who serves God and him who serves him not; the Bible's paired words for the two kinds of people run through the whole sermon.
  • Righteousness is God's work in us, not the flesh's achievement: the kingdom of God is righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost, and the Spirit convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment (John 16:8).
  • Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. We are free — but not to use our liberty as a cloak of maliciousness, rather as the servants of God (Romans 6:1-2; 1 Peter 2:16).

Scriptures: Proverbs 14:34; Malachi 3:18; Romans 14:17; John 16:8; Romans 6:1-2; 1 Peter 2:16

How the righteous are made

  • Romans 1:32 names the depth of wickedness: those who, knowing the judgment of God, not only do such things but have pleasure in them who do them.
  • Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them (Ephesians 5:11-12).
  • There is therefore now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus: the law of the Spirit of life has made us free from the law of sin and death, and the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1-4).

Scriptures: Romans 1:32; Ephesians 5:11-12; Romans 8:1-4

Stand for righteousness

  • The three Hebrew children would not bow to the image, and Daniel would not stop praying; God shut the mouths of lions — if you will stand for God, God will stand with you (Daniel 6:22).
  • The wicked flee when no man pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1).
  • Standing starts with doing the right thing: lie not one to another (Colossians 3:9); the one who may dwell on God's holy hill walks uprightly, works righteousness and speaks the truth in his heart.
  • He illustrates honesty from his own life: a duplicate Father's Day purchase arrived after he had cancelled it, and he called the company repeatedly until he could ship it back — and a righteous man keeps his commitment even when it costs him.
  • Proverbs opens by stating its purpose: to teach people wisdom and discipline, and to help them do what is right, just and fair (Proverbs 1:1-3).

Scriptures: Daniel 6:22; Proverbs 28:1; Colossians 3:9; Psalms 15:1-2; Psalms 15:4; Proverbs 1:1-3

Guard your company, and get involved in righteous causes

  • Do not envy evil people or desire their company, for their hearts plot violence (Proverbs 24:1-2); bad company corrupts good character (1 Corinthians 15:33).
  • Walk in love, and let fornication, uncleanness and covetousness not be once named among you; you were sometimes darkness, but now you are light in the Lord — walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:2-10).
  • Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess, but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18); I will set no wicked thing before my eyes.
  • Paul's market rule stands as the pattern for hard cases: buy and eat without asking questions for conscience' sake, but refuse when a thing is shown to you as offered to an idol, for the other man's sake (1 Corinthians 10).
  • Favour righteous causes: the gospel first — I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16-18) — then the homeless, the unborn, and everyone who needs an advocate.

Scriptures: Proverbs 24:1-2; 1 Corinthians 15:33; Ephesians 5:2-7; Ephesians 5:8-10; Ephesians 5:18; Psalms 101:3; 1 Corinthians 10 (chapter, as spoken); Psalms 35:27; Romans 1:16-18

Pray for a revival of righteousness

  • The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers; the face of the Lord is against those who do evil (1 Peter 3:12).
  • To his people carried captive into Babylon God said: build houses, plant gardens, raise families — and seek the peace of the city, for in its peace you will have peace (Jeremiah 29:4-7).
  • Pray therefore for all men, for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives; God will have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
  • The sermon closes at the altar, praying for the United States, for Georgia, for metro Atlanta, for the church and for its families, that a revival of righteousness would start in us.

Proverbs 14 34. righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people I believe when you read a text you should address it and I did on Sunday for about 50 minutes and I'll refer to it a little bit more tonight but I want to speak on a Revival of righteousness kind of a continuation of this theme somewhat of a part two God bless you please be seated for Revival of righteousness I want to give some practical application this evening of how we can be a catalyst for Revival I did look through those pages of notes with all the examples of the contrast between the righteous and the wicked that I spared you from on Sunday and I decided to spare you from that again you remember that righteous and wicked are found in scripture together 74 times at least 74 times in the Bible and according to the word of God do you know don't really see some Middle Ground between the righteous and the wicked there are righteous people and there are wicked people there are people in our world who would not necessarily be Wicked by what we may Define as wickedness when they're searching for light and reaching out to God I saw a news article just this week about an Entertainer who is not a church person but goes to church some mentions speaking in tongues in some Churches but as a prayerful person seeking the Lord we know that if you will feel after him you can find him amen if you search for him with all your heart that you'll be found of him amen but there are also people in our world who are running for the cover of the darkness of sin they choose sin because their deeds are evil the Bible said righteousness calls us to live in submission to God wickedness caused people into a life of rebellion against God I thought there was a a key verse that I mentioned on Sunday Malachi 3 18 then shall you return and discern between the righteous and the wicked between him that serveth God and that serveth him not so we have a little bit of information about what a wicked person is like a wicked person just doesn't serve God he can go to hell in the slow lane or you can go to hell in the fast lane the Bible said it is a wide way and it's a narrow way that goes to heaven but the wide way to hell I see it as an multi-lane Highway some people live Reckless lives of abandon and deep sin and other people are just fairly good people but Jesus Christ is not their lord They don't serve him and the Bible said you don't go to heaven because you're good there's none righteous no not one you go to heaven because we've turned from our sins of repentance and the blood of Jesus Christ has covered our sins when we took his name in baptism and were filled with his spirit amen I want to give just these contrasting words somewhat synonyms again they're Godly and ungodly this is too Wicked and righteous or righteous and wicked The Godly and ungodly the holy and Unholy the just and unjust the good and evil the Saints are the Sinners the bless the curse the upright or the workers of iniquity the faithful and the Unfaithful the wise and the fools those who trust God and the transgressors those who live in light and those who live in darkness I wanted to just remind you because when you're reading your Bible and you see these other words that may talk about you those who trust in the Lord and those who do not that's really another way of saying the righteous and the wicked we were sometimes Darkness but now we are light in the Lord we were Wicked but now we are righteous because we've been made righteous by the blood of Jesus Christ the righteous or blessed the wicked or cursed the righteous or upright right the Sinners or the wicked are workers of iniquity and righteous people are faithful to the Lord and the wicked are not and so on and so forth in the Bible now salvation creates righteousness in us we were declared righteous by Jesus Christ Romans 14 17 tells us about the kingdom of God for the kingdom of God is Not meat and drink he's writing about ceremonial matters here in Christian Liberty the kingdom of God is Not meat and drink but righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost three components of being a Spirit-filled person is that you do what is right you have the righteousness of God that is imparted to you by Jesus Christ Living in you there is the peace of God and there's the joy of the Lord that is her strength and all of that comes from the Holy Ghost now that's not in all inclusive Trifecta right of what the Holy Ghost does but I wanted you to see that the Holy Ghost produces righteousness in you when Jesus was talking about the work of the spirit in John 16 8 he said when he has come the comforter has come he will reprove or convict the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment to come that's the work of the spirit in the world but I believe it is also the work of the spirit in US it convinces us of sin to turn from sin of righteous living and of judgment to come as Believers you know some people think that the closer you are to God the more you get to sin that allows Grace to much more abound Romans chapter 6 verse 1 refutes that what shall we then say then shall we continue to sin that Grace May abound God forbid or certainly not how shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein I love the book of Romans and Romans 5 6 7 leads to chapter 8 that speaks of the life in the spirit and the work of the spirit in the life of a Believer now as born-again people of God we've been set free from sin but first Peter 2 16 says that we are free but not using your Liberty for a cloak or a cover-up for maliciousness or sin but as Servants of God I'm just reinforcing this idea that when you are a child of God born again of water and spirit it produces the righteousness of God in your life and righteousness is both internal external it affects every area of our life without the Holy Ghost all of our righteousness is all our righteous Deeds are but filthy rags you cannot please God by trying to live up to the standard of the law of God In the Flesh you can't be perfected In the Flesh when you begin in the spirit amen Romans 1 and 32. just talking about the work of the spirit and righteousness right now Romans 1 and 32 Apollo's chapters 1 2 and 3 Paul is like a prosecuting attorney and he brings all the world in the courtroom and they're found guilty before God for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God Paul now is bringing pagans into the courtroom that through naturing conscience they should have known enough about God to seek him but then they profess themselves to be wise and came became fools their foolish heart was darkened Paul was walking down this line of reasoning and he talks about these people who knew something about God Romans 1 32 who knowing the Judgment of God that they which commit such things are worthy of death not only do the same but have pleasure in them that do them I want to just borrow that last phrase that people that are even not born again people people when they know the Judgment of God they have pleasure and sinful activities and behavior this has all kinds of application to us whether it's entertainment or relationships or practices in our own lives that God will destroy Sinners and people worthy of judgment and then these people do the same thing knowing the Judgment of God and then they have pleasure in that now if we're righteous people we turn away from sin or unrighteousness amen Ephesians 5 11 and 12. Ephesians 5 11. and have no Fellowship Paul's teaching right practical instruction in the book of Ephesians they have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather reprove them for it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret now in Romans they take pleasure in them they're people who glory in what should be shameful and we should not be people that condone or celebrate what God condemns amen we don't Fellowship unfruitful works of darkness we reprove them and we don't even speak about those kinds of immoral Behavior now Paul wrote about the spirit I told you Romans 8 I just mentioned that a while ago Romans 8 and 1. I wanted I'm showing you the work of the spirit bringing righteousness in our lives there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus he walked not after the flesh but after the spirit for the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and of death in Romans 7 Paul speaks of the law of God the law of the Mind the law of sin these four laws two Natures you try to do right but you can't find you can't do right the things that you know are wrong you end up doing them you're brought into activity to the law of sin and death and Paul kind of concludes that chapter he shall deliver us me from this the body of this death I seem to be bound up by sin and then in Romans 8 he tells us that freedom comes by the power of The Spirit Well sin tries to drag you down like the law of gravity because the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus is like the law of aerodynamics that overcomes that downward pull amen so it is a spirit and then in verse 3 he says for what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh the Old Testament law was perfect in principle but the weakness was in man's inability to live by it the book of Galatians is largely written to people who try to live for God in the energy of the flesh by going back under the law Paul makes the same argument here in Romans 8 and 3 the law was weak through the Flesh and God had a solution God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin condemned sin in the flesh that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit I want you to see verse 4 that the Holy Ghost gives us the power for the righteous of the law of God the moral law of God to be fulfilled in us when we walk in the spirit amen the righteous and the wicked are headed to two different Eternal destinations we have a holy spirit living in US Jesus said that except your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees you shall in no case in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven now it doesn't mean that you should fast more than they fast or pray more than they pray but their righteousness was superficial it was generated by the desires and if it was a sincere person to do what is right but Jesus was saying you know I've got something that I'm going to give you he tells us about that later that is allowing the righteousness of God to be fulfilled in US amen so the Holy Ghost makes us righteous people I spoke for two Wednesdays on the subject the school of the spirit and one of the things the Holy Ghost does in US is give us the power to live for God that the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in us so so what can we do as Believers what can we do to bring a Revival of righteousness there are many things but I want to share three tonight that we can stand for righteousness we can get involved in righteous causes and we can pray for a Revival of righteousness and I realize that I spoke on prayer on Sunday and I'll speak on it from a different perspective somewhat tonight stand for righteousness so you don't fall for wickedness there's a tremendous amount of pressure in our world for us to accept everybody and everything and the most intolerable position in our world is to be intolerant of sin it is it is part of the the machine to water down our faith to make us be painted as haters amen because we are righteous people and we desire to live righteous lives and to see people turn from their unrighteousness to God so they can be saved I believe that if you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything and I also believe and I mentioned this in passing was not in my notes on Sunday that if you take a stand for God he will stand with you but if you always capitulate you're always compromising for always ducking and running for cover God will not come to your side he will not stand with you if you are not taking a stand for righteousness amen we should do it with love but unyielding to sin amen now I know you know these stories so I'm just going to do two drive-bys the three Hebrew young men we call them Shadrach Meshach Abednego there Babylonian names they would not bow their heads to pray to Nebuchadnezzar's Idol they would not bend their knee in worship to the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king set up so of course they were thrown into the fiery furnace heated up seven times hotter is it hot as it could be but because they would not bow God made sure they would not burn amen my friend Mark Christian used to sing he's still in the fire walking in the flame that Fourth Man in the fire that looks like the Son of God Amen because no matter what you go through if you will stand for God God will stand with you he will strengthen you encourage you give you boldness amen he will bring you out on the other side they said we don't know if God is going to deliver us from the fire but we're not careful to answer your king he will Deliver Us from you if we die in the fire we're delivered from you if we live in the fire we're delivered from the recourse the punishment of not bowing and bending and God gave them Deliverance they disobey the word of the king like the apostles in the New Testament he said we ought to obey God rather than men whether it be right in the sight of God to obey you more than God judge you but we can often speak the things that we have seen and her we believe Romans 13 I'll talk about this a little bit tonight we believe in obeying civil Authority until it crosses the line of biblical Authority there's a higher law it may cost you your life May cost you your freedom we are in the lineage of the martyrs and those who are persecuted for the name of Jesus Christ amen we should not ever think that we are exempt from the consequences that would come to us for standing by our convictions amen Daniel you know it would not compromise his convictions when the King was tricked and it became illegal to pray but we know that God shut the mouths Daniel 6 22 he shut the mouths of lions I wanted to see the wording that that the Bible uses amen so God delivered them out of the hand of the king he stood for God and God delivered him and if you will stand for righteousness if you will stand for God God will stand with you and he will deliver you and we need to let God be God be patient amen be patient uh reading through the book of Acts recently and Peter delivered from prison and so many miracles of deliverance from civil Authority that God did when his preachers were locked up for preaching the gospel but then you have James killed with the sword so it doesn't always turn out like you think and Peter is delivered from prison now speaking of lions Proverbs 28 1 the Bible said there's a difference between the wicked and the righteous the wicked flee when no man pursue it but the righteous are as bold as a lion should have put this verse on the screens Proverbs 28 1. the wicked Solomon says are paranoid they're paranoid they're running from the law they're running from God they're running from their conscience the wicked or paranoid but the righteous or as bold as a lion they are not afraid and we need to pray that God would give us boldness as they prayed for in Acts chapter 4 and I preached about on Sunday amen now there are some practical ways you can demonstrate righteousness and stand for righteousness starting off live by principles more than popular perspectives that are in our culture for example be honest do not lie all liars shall have their part in the Lake of Fire Colossians 3 and 9 says to line not one to another seeing that you have put off the old nature the old man with his deeds Psalm 15 1 asked this rhetorical question Lord who may abide in your Tabernacle who may dwell in your Holy Hill I said do you not lie be honest but now I'm talking now about doing the right thing okay that's the point you may dwell in your Holy Hill He Who Walks uprightly and and some translations will say you do the right thing what is walking uprightly it is doing what is right amen that is really the aim of the law to do justly you know Micah 6 6-8 talks about do justly uh yes there's three things a while coming with your God right off the cuff there uh walk uprightly Works righteousness and speaks the truth in his heart that's what a righteous person does and in our world when you go to work when you go to school you go to the store and you go to the neighborhood you walk uprightly you work righteousness and you speak the truth in your heart I don't like to Pat myself on the back but recently I made a purchase it was a Father's Day purchase that my wife let me make for myself at least after I told her I did it she said it was fine so my family will reap the benefits because it's something that I can grill with but I accidentally ordered two and I called the company and customer service was great and I canceled one of the items several days later way too many days later but several days later I received my item in the mail but I received two in the mail I just said looked at those two I just said Look What the Lord Has Done no I didn't say that he has multiplied my blessing Happy Father's Day I called customer service again it's excellent and I explained the situation and they said we'll send you a code and you can return that item and because you you're honest and told us about this we're going to send you like these heat resistant mitts and you know thank you very much a couple hundred bucks compared to 34 but honesty's worth whatever it costs right so after several days they had a problem in USPS Postal Service wasn't taking these orders so I called back a third time and I said ma'am I got the same lady I said uh I called the other day my name is Daryl Johns I got decided by accident you were going to send me a code but I never got I really want to return this to you so she said thank you very much for remembering this she said I forgot so thank you for calling and so I got the code shipped the item back and lived happily ever after I I believe that you know back in the day when you actually use money at a store if they didn't give you enough change you would say you didn't give me all the money back but if you got too much money back you didn't just say thank you Jesus and walk out the door if you know it you do what is right and you say I'm sorry you gave me too much money this doesn't belong to me I'm not going to steal it from you again I'm not trying to Pat myself on the back about my thermapen but I'm just telling you that or whatever nice not called that something else this but my point is when you do that my wife was in the room I was on the speakerphone you would think that this lady you know like who are you what planets are you from we're so kind that there was somebody honest I don't think I'm the only honest person I believe they're honest unbelievers in the world but as a testimony to the world of talking about how we can take a stand for righteousness it is doing the right thing amen praise God all right Proverbs 1 1. these are the Proverbs of Solomon David's son king of Israel he's going to tell us the purpose of the Book of Proverbs 31 chapters every one of us need it you can read it through in a month almost every not every month 31 chapters they're all supposedly short not much of a storyline I read through a proverb on Sunday several scriptures about righteousness and the righteous and the wicked but here's what Solomon says their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline I'm reading the New Living Translation their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline to help them understand the insights of the wise their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives to help them do what is right just and fair amen Psalm 15 4 says about us that we the Lord honors those who fear the lord he who swears to his own hurt and does not change in other words you make a commitment and you realize that it was going to take longer cost more there will be problems but you go ahead and keep your commitment like someone who is Dependable fulfilling what I agreed to do even though it requires unexpected sacrifice that's what righteousness is it is doing the right thing it is taking a stand for what is Right amen now on Sunday I spoke about recent actions by consumers that have had a an amazing impact on woke corporations but our main motive to not participate in ungodliness is to do the right thing to protect our families our primary goal is not to punish a company it would be difficult to not do business with anyone who is not godly amen talking about taking a stand do not have continual close fellowship with ungodly people Proverbs 24 1-2 do not envy evil people or desire their company for their hearts plot violence and their words always stir up trouble amen First Corinthians 15 33 talking about taking a stand for righteousness now it's about associations this is a New Living Translation again don't be fooled by those who say such things for Bad Company corrupts good character the righteous and the wicked think carefully about what is right and stop sinning Paul says for to your shame I say that some of you don't know God at all kind of a tough thing to say to the church right Paul of Ephesians Ephesians 5 2-7 and walk in love is Christ also hath loved us and have given himself for us an offering to sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor but fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness let it not be once named among you as becometh Saints amen neither full filthiness nor foolish talking nor jesting foolish jesting which are not convenient but rather giving thanks for this you know that no whoremonger nor unclean person their Covetous man who is an idolater puts anything ahead of God have any inheritance in the kingdom of God let no man deceive you with vain words for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of obedience be not ye therefore partakers with them take a stand for righteousness amen and then he goes on Ephesians 5 and 8. about the activities for you were sometimes Darkness but now your light in the Lord so walk is Children of life for the fruit of the spirit it doesn't give us the Galatians 6 version but he said it is in all goodness and righteousness and Truth proving what is acceptable unto the Lord and have no Fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather prove them for it is a shame even to speak of those things this verse again which are done of them in secret and while I was in Ephesians 5 I thought I would jump to verse 18 and share this about taking a stand the Bible says to stay away from chemical uh abuse of drugs and alcohol and be not drunk with wine wearing his excess but be filled with the spirit Proverbs 23 I won't read through this verse but it talks about a person who is drunk and has lost their judgment he said you'll feel like you've been you know you're like a man on a ship that doesn't know what in the world is going on spending long hours in the taverns and you don't even know where you are and you lose your sense of judgment so for what it's worth we should not partake in things like that amen this extends do what is right take a stand for truth this extends to entertainment periodically you teach on biblical Holiness Apostolic identity and our spiritual disciplines class and in our Apostolic identity class or their jury our discipleship pastor and their team teaches practical Holiness Apostolic identity and part of that series is about entertainment about activities what Psalm 101 3 says I will set no Wicked thing before my eyes and I I mentioned here in my notes that you know it's almost impossible to say that we're never going to buy anything from a sinner difficult area and Paul says you go buy something in the market the shambles it says in First Corinthians 10 you may not know where that meat came from but if you find out it was offered to an idol then it might be better to not eat it because you make defile the person who knew that and it's a fascinating passage do not be ashamed of righteousness it seems that there's a lot of people that are proud of debauchery and sin and Evil so why should we not be I don't want to use the word proud why should we not hesitate to stand for what is Right amen they glory in their shame we glory in the Lord Jesus Christ shouldn't allow the narrative to always be determined by ungodly people there's a time to hold your peace and let your life speak your life and there's a time to say something again to stand when it comes to people that you're responsible for the church that you may pastor people that you may lead your family then we need to speak up The Silence of Adam The Silence of Abraham and put our world in great Jeopardy amen there's a time to speak out praise God you may want to get involved in some righteous causes David in Psalm 35 27 said let them shout for joy and be glad that favor my righteous cause I just want to say that there are some causes that are righteous some that are not and I'll make this point abbreviated but give your life to causes that are noble that are righteous if you just Google save the save the children waves frogs rhinos Manatee Dunes Turtles elephants snakes you can go on and on and on causes that people sign up for and serve in and I'm not saying that they're bad causes I would question save the Sharks right now but I didn't see that in there seems to be a lot more than there used to be when I was growing up but righteous causes David said you're going to favor my righteous cause so I want to encourage you to engage in righteous causes starting with spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ Paul said for I am not ashamed Romans 1 16 of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth to the Jew first and also to the Greek verse 17 for therein in the power of the Gospel is the righteousness of God revealed from Faith to Faith as it is written the just shall live by faith for the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold the truth in unrighteousness they they know the truth but they don't live the truth talking about righteous causes amen now the Bible tells us that there are some righteous causes starting with the Gospel of Jesus Christ but in Matthew 25 Jesus spoke about going to people who are sick in prison amen they're strangers that need to be taken in they are uh there are afflicted James talks about widows and orphans there are some people that need an advocate in our world we have a homeless Ministry in our church and one of our members told me Sunday about working in schools and over 20 students in that school that are homeless to some degree that this counselor in our church is trying to help a chaplain in those schools I thank God for everybody who's involved in our church in a volunteer role over 300 people and I commend you and I thank God for you but as we go out into the world we can make a difference in our world by getting involved as an advocate for people who need someone to help them amen get involved in a righteous cause amen you can testify you can vote your values regardless of your political affiliation or not affiliated with the political party there are no perfect candidates no perfect parties but we really ought to vote as close as possible as much as we can for a party for a person for a position that upholds a word of God that's how we vote I am a Christian before I'm an American or affiliated with the political party find a righteous cause there's so much in the news about you know the sanctity of Life helping you know we have new beginnings to help uh young girls who are planning to have an abortion and they can go to new beginnings and through New Beginnings they can get help but Jeremy Guzman is the very first baby that was born from New Beginnings because this mom went there and I found out just a couple of years ago that that I as a youth pastor who deferred his birth mother to New Beginnings I didn't even know it but this young man is not as young right now but serving in a church one of the most amazing musicians and people because somebody had a cause to help a girl that was struggling with the pregnancy that was unplanned he gave her an alternative to abortion human trafficking substance abuse poverty hunger literacy missionary work invest in a person who needs someone to intercede on their behalf amen stand for righteousness get involved in righteous causes I want to just pause right there and let that sink in a minute I'm talking really fast it may not be in a formal way it may just be a person that you run across and you feel prompted by the spirit to help them you're not affiliated maybe with an organization that does that there's nothing to say that you have to be connected to the church to help a person or a particular organization to help a person in need amen so I just wanted to reinforce this that there are a lot of people that need someone to show them some love and kindness and the righteousness of God and I conclude my message not right this second soon or the way I ended my message on Sunday that we desperately need to pray for a Revival of righteousness and I believe you've been doing that first Peter 3 and 12. for the eyes of the Lord or over the righteous and his ears are open to their prayers for the face of the Lord is against them that do evil we need to pray for a Revival of righteousness in our country and if we're righteous people we have this promise from first Peter 3 12. that the Lord is over the righteous and his ears are open to our prayers I was thinking about you know our country because there are some people that are against being patriotic you know God Is Not An American we're aware of that and how patriotic should we be because we live in the United States of America I grew up when you were supposed to be patriotic and we sang patriotic songs in in school and we saluted the flag and I know it's a different day but but the Lord directed me to Jeremiah 23 3 29 3 and um Israel jejuda is in captivity in Babylon and so a letter comes to them Jeremiah 29 4. I want you to really pay attention to the words of the Lord to his people in bondage in the Pagan nation of Babylon thus says the Lord of hosts a new King James Version to all who are carried away captive whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon build houses and dwell in them plant Gardens and eat their fruit let me pause to say that there were false prophets were coming to the people of Judah and telling them that in two years God was going to deliver them kind of encouraging overthrow and so the Lord tells him in multiple ways through the prophets settle in you're going to be there for 70 years so the land enjoys her Sabbath you've neglected this every seven year cycle of of letting the land life fallow and nothing will change a 70-year period of captivity in Babylon so this is kind of connected to that idea but how do you act in Babylon do you live every day angry and hating and all of that but the Lord tells his people this you know dwell there plant Gardens eat fruit build houses take wives verse 6 and he gets sons and daughters and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands so that they may bear sons and daughters that you may incr be increased there and not diminished I don't think he means to intermarry with the pagans but just don't go there you live in this Pagan country but I don't want you to go there and be isolationist I don't want you to hate every minute of your life I don't want you to be poor there I want to prosper you in Babylon so whatever you think about America in a pagan country God told his people to do the best they could while they were living in a foreign country I know the Bible said that our citizenship is in heaven Jeremiah 29 7. here's the verse and seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive and pray to the Lord for it for in its peace you will have peace you're in Babylon it's an evil country they're they're you're enslaved there in some degree they had more freedom than they did in Egypt by far but the Lord said I want you to pray for that country I want you to pray for the Peace of that country because when you pray for their peace you also have peace raise families live there be an example there in Babylon seek the peace First Timothy 2 1 and you can stand if you would musicians can come give us hope First Timothy 1 2 or Timothy 2 1. therefore I exhort first of all his supplications prayers intercessions giving of thanks be made for all men I'm talking and I about a Revival of righteousness part two Take A Stand For Truth get involved in righteous causes but pray so here's the Paul to Timothy supplications prayers intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men for Kings political leaders right and all who are in authority he gives us a reason it's very similar to Jeremiah 29 is it that you may lead a quiet and Peaceable life in all godliness and reverence your citizenship is in heaven you happen to live we live in the United States of America so we need to do our best here we're missionaries here we're ambassadors of Jesus Christ here he's given us a Ministry of reconciliation we're not just trying to duck and hide and serve our time we're trying to be change agents in our culture amen a Revival pray for these people for this is good verse 3 says for this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our savior who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of Truth all of this passage is connected to the Salvation of Souls the way we conduct ourselves stay as we take the causes we embrace the prayers we pray the difference we make as ambassadors of Jesus Christ in our world the way we respond to rejection persecution unjust treatment the way we handle ourselves and the Bible calls about being defrauded and we should take it patiently amen pray for all men who want to live a Peaceable life but ultimately the ultimate goal is that so all men would be saved I believe that God has blessed America there's a lot of things God cannot bless but if I was going to cite a reason God would Bless America I think our foundation was right a lot of the motives were right not perfect not perfect men but as a believer I believe that God raised up America to be a missionary sending Nation to the world amen I'm not saying that's the only reason but the United States has been the missionary sending nation of the world in the last couple hundred years we have affected the world I was trying to find accurate numbers probably trillions of dollars flows in the churches not enough money goes out for Missions causes something like 34 billion dollars given admissions causes it ought to be a trillion dollars given emissions by all churches I'm not talking about upci but God has blessed us not to hoard it not to hold it but to use it to build his kingdom that all men might be saved that's God's ultimate goal that there will be a Revival that would lead to righteousness that would exalt a nation and that it would not be a nation of sin that would be a reproach to any people if you have a moment why don't you join me in the Altar and let's pray for the United States of America let's pray for the state of Georgia let's pray for Metro Atlanta let's pray for our church let's pray for our families let's pray that God would let a Revival of righteousness start in US
